for work made with a mouse this isn't bad. It's a little over blended in places and the skin tone could use some work.
If digital art is something you want to pursue then I would recommend getting a cheap tablet and downloading Krita. The tablet and software will have a bit of a learning curve but you can practice some basic stuff in the vein of drawabox to overcome it.
Marco Bucci on youtube makes some excellent digital painting videos, and there is also Ctrl+Paint
i have an xp-pen deco 01, it has linux drivers on the website. they're kind of rudimentary but they work just fine with Krita, and with the 20% off coupon it's under 49 dollars. pretty decent.
We purchased this one. We did check out a few of the highly recommended tablets, but all were quite expensive for an 11 yo. This one was in a list of good beginner tablets, and happened to have a 25% of coupon that day. We dont want to sink a butt load of money in just yet, as kids can quickly drop things, however, I dont want it to be so crappy she loses interest entirely.

Do you know anything about it?
For the frew software, would FireAplaca be your top suggestion?
Any good YouTube channels that could help her? I'm not ready for her to venture on to reddit just yet, lol
XP-Pen are actually awsome. https://www.amazon.com/10x6-25-Graphics-Battery-Free-Shortcut-Pressure/dp/B077P6BQP7/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=xp-pen&qid=1567376898&s=gateway&sr=8-9
this one is $50 and I know a couple artist who use this brand and can say it's better than Wacom.
I just got this one and love it:

Much less expensive than Wacom, and I actually like it better than my old Wacom tablet.
XP-Pen Deco 01 is what I use right now. This is not the best around but it does the job very well and you might want to consider the price and the pen's pressure sensitivity especially if you have a tight budget: https://www.amazon.com/10x6-25-Graphics-Battery-free-shortcut-pressure/dp/B077P6BQP7

Heres the one I use. 60 bucks and may be 15% off for you. 8 hotkey buttons, good drivers, comes with 8 extra pen nibs. USB C iirc. 10 inches. You can't beat it for the price. For that price you'll get a wacom tablet for half the size.
