2. SupremeTech 12 x 24 x 0.04 Inch Acrylic See-Through Mirror, 30% Transparent

    Features:
  • 12 x 24 x 0.04 Inch Acrylic See-Through Mirror, 30% Transparent. Can be used for a smart mirror, surveillance, or theatrical application. Shatter resistant, unlike glass. Slightly bendable.
  • A two-way mirror is coated with a thin, almost-transparent layer of metal. The result is a mirrored surface that reflects some light and is penetrated by the rest. Light always passes equally in both directions. However, when one side is brightly lit and the other is dark, the darker side becomes difficult to see from the brightly lit side because it is masked by the brighter reflection of the lit side.
  • 2nd photo monitor off. 3rd photo monitor on, bright room. 4th photo monitor on, dark room. 5th photo reflection of ceiling light. 6th photo ceiling light seen through mirror. 7th photo demonstrates nature of two way mirror.
  • Be sure to remove thin protective film from both sides before use. Side with blue protective covering may have a 2nd clear protective covering underneath. Protection may be scratched, but underlying mirror should be unscratched. Blue covering is on reflective side, clear covering is on back of mirror.
  • Acrylic can scratch fairly easily. Please treat with care. If you expect some wear, face the back of the mirror so that it will receive the wear. If the back receives wear, you can potentially buff it out; however, if the front receives wear, it can remove the reflective coating. Please see FAQ in description area below for more useful info.

Omg those colors are terrible. I'm so sorry!

You're renting right? Have you ever painted anything before? First things first, ask the landlord if he'll supply the paint if you supply the labor. It can't hurt! But you'd need to do a decent job sooo...

I'd go with a cool white in the kitchen. They make special super smooth durable paint for cupboards, but it's pricy! It finishes more like an enamel. Try to find out what kind of paint was used previously. You may need a primer and if you aren't sure, definitely get primer. Just do everything white, and research how to paint cupboards. 90% of a good paint job is prep work! Things like sanding, removing hardware, priming, taking cupboards doors down, etc. I wouldn't waste time on the insides unless you're really anal about stuff. I always bought the rubbery liners for mine.

If the landlord allows, I'd add hardware to the cupboards as well. These are a decent clean look:

Cosmas 305-030SN Satin Nickel Cabinet Hardware Euro Style Bar Handle Pull - 3" Hole Centers, 5-3/8" Overall Length - 25 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D0KWBJ4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_j3RDzbD9DSWFH

But measure to see what makes sense. Drill and sand the holes before painting and look to see if there were pre-existing pulls. If so, try to re-use those old holes (sometimes they are patched and painted over). Path of least resistance and so forth...

The kitchen looks small with no natural light so I think the under cabinet LED strips are a great idea. Something like this might work - I would go with warm lighting just so the white isn't so stark.

Albrillo LED Under Cabinet Lighting Dimmable Warm White, 12W 900 Lumens, 3 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ARQY31S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_X7RDzb9EGZ4KM

For the living area just get rid of that ugly neon vomit color as fast as possible. Dear god. Do not leave any of that.

I would aim for something in a very light warm gray (I know it's not the most revolutionary but it works) for the walls or if you want to go modern, a nice crisp white. You can always add warmth and color with textiles (furniture, rugs, curtains) so don't be afraid of doing a fresh box in white if you want the light. Use a matte or eggshell finish in the living room. Anything with gloss will highlight EVERY imperfection in the walls.

If your living room windows are subject to passerby's views, I'd consider getting a double rod for curtains. A softly textured sheer curtain will allow lots of light in the daytime while still obscuring you from unwanted attention. Something like this:
Best Dreamcity Faux Linen Sheer White Curtains / Draperies for Bedroom (Pack of 2 Panels, W52" by L84", White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F03O5SO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rbSDzb6SMDNRP

You can then choose a thicker curtain for the outer rod for evening privacy. (Sheers tend to be much more sheer at night when lights are on inside.)

Since it's a basement apartment, if the ceilings are low, you can trick the eye into seeing the ceilings as higher if you hang the rod closer to the ceiling but it looks like you have standard height ceilings so I think a standard 84" long curtain length would work out fine.

As far as furniture goes, it's so subjective, but the setup in the pic looks good! I would stay with neutrals, personally, and add color through throw blankets or toss pillows and artwork and accent pieces (be they plants or statuary or what have you). I'm still a big fan of grey. It's a one bed so I'd consider a sleeper sofa. They've come a long way and you don't have to get something that looks like it lived at your grandmas. Something along these lines would work well, I think. (The added storage is a nice bonus too.)

Poundex F6931 Bobkona Jassi Linen-Like Sectional with Pull-Out Bed and Compartment, Blue Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CAJSC1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_chSDzbBPEP4EG

I'd add some large area rugs. Definitely some artwork. Society6.com is a good place to find interesting art on a budget.

Add some simple mirrors on the walls as well - ideally one large one on the wall opposite the windows to reflect light back through the apartment. It would make a world of difference for you. I'm kinda pushing you in the clean and modern direction so I'd recommend something like this:

Raphael Rozen - Elegant - Modern - Classic - Vintage - Rustic - Hanging Framed Wall Mounted Mirror, Distressed Wood Finish, Gray - White Color https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G2FVBOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kmSDzbASV1EQ2

It could add some warmth and texture to what might otherwise be a bland wall. Adding some floating shelves below or to the sides with some favorite books or mementos might be nice as well.

Definitely add some floor lamps and perhaps a side table lamp or two as well. Lighting is so much more important than people give it credit for. Always buy soft white. I actually really like Edison bulbs inside of lamps because they are a soft and soothing lighting, even when covered by lamp shades. They make a nice point of interest too. I always buy lamps with 3-way switches also. You'll never realize how awesome it is until you have it and then you'll use it constantly. (Won't work with the Edison bulbs though - you'll have to buy the dimmable lightbulbs). If you want the Edison bulb look to be a part of the decor, these lamps are pretty fun and work well for date night lighting, chilling on the couch eating snacks and watching Netflix lighting etc.

Injuicy Lighting Loft Retro Industrial E27 Edison Bulb Wooden Base Table Lights Vintage Antique Wood Desk Lamp for Bedside Bedroom Living Dining Room Home Corridor with Switch(Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FYRD37U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_HrSDzb4CXRZ75

If you're buying area rugs - get them larger. You want to define a space with it - not have a bath mat between your couch and your coffee table.

Get a coffee table with storage. Having a place for all your stuff is key to keeping things looking nice and uncluttered. I love having lots of blankets around because I tend to hunker down in winter but if you're really minimalist you could get away with not having storage.

If you don't have a coat closet and you don't have a large entry for a standard coat hook wall hanging try one of these for the things you use every day:

JustNile Versatile Metal 180 Degree Triple Pronged Swivel Swing Arm Wall Mounted Hook, Set of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y5C5CSW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_OvSDzbBWNGVNK

And that's where I'm gonna stop because I do have to work tomorrow.

One caveat - I did push for a more modern look BUT all of this advice would work if you like a more traditional style too. Key points being lots of neutrals and don't get too crazy with accent colors. Match your finishes on metals as much as possible and just try to keep things within the same finish family.

One of the huge problems this place has right now is a warm matte grayish violet as the kitchen accent and a an oddly cool yellow green semi gloss on the walls. Just choose warm or cool (I like warm, personally, especially for places with light walls) and stick to it. If you try to keep things cohesive you'll generally end up happy with the result!

Good luck! Post your afters for us!

Just to run contrary to what everyone else on here is saying, I think IKEA and those clear acrylic containers are way overpriced for what you get, and it's either ugly or looks super boring. If she already has several "buckets" that she likes, a shelf system to put them on is a good idea. Other than that, I really like fancy spice rackets for my products. Something like this can sit on the desk or be hung on the wall. Mirrored trays are also super classy and as a bonus, are generally easier to clean up spills off of than the wooden surface of the desk. Here are two examples. Office supplies can also be repurposed, as in these two examples, and are much prettier than basic plastic. Letter/paper racks with drawers are especially great for nail polish, like this or this.

Some people use a literal tacklebox, if that's something your wife would be interested in. Cupcake stands, if you find a cheap one, also look really cute!

Pro tip: measure some of her biggest/tallest items and the most common sizes to get an idea for depth of shelves and height between shelves needed. This is has saved me a ton of headache when shopping!

Oh boy, I hear you on the partner not putting stuff away LOL Everyday I am cleaning and tidying up. And I think this sub is a great place to ask these kinda questions, though I'm pretty new to it myself :)

- If you haven't already, I would recommend first donating or getting rid of things you don't need, use, want, or have an attachment to. That will make things much easier to work with before the next suggestions.

- Above the dresser (if you're not going to move it) is a good opportunity to install some wall shelves to put books and/or other knick knacks. Or books on top of the dresser and a more "narrow" shelving unit for knick knacks.

- If you're going to move the dresser and clothes rack, I would recommend this or the above linked shelf unit or a combination of it all to hold your skincare and makeup. This lady from Etsy makes some pretty cool wall mounted makeup holders.

If glare won't be an issue for the computer, maybe some wall mirrors, too, to brighten the area. The most common complaint I see about these kind of mirrors is that they don't stick, so you may need to buy some glue. (I've bought gold hexagonal ones to place on the table itself and going to buy larger ones for the wall possibly.)

- Replace the wicker chair with a stool / small ottoman with storage. Might help with the contents of the tub.

- A rotating makeup organizerto hold the things you use quite often. I have a "gold" / glass one myself.

- Maybe a mounted hair dryer holder, shelf, and/or bin to install on the side of the table to hold brushes, hair dryer, etc. I plan on doing this for my vanity table.

- If you are not attached to it to the standing swivel mirror on the table, I would get a wall mount version that you can attach to the other side of the table to free up some desk space... and it'll also help balance if you're installing the shelf / tote on the other side.

I don't know the dimensions of your table, so I'm guestimating whether or not the mounting area of these products are small enough for the edges of your vanity table.

- Corner shelf for behind / above the computer workstation. White to blend in with the wall, so it feels more spacious. I would paint the computer desk white or get a white one to aid in that effect.

- On the above note, I wouldn't paint the small table in the middle of the room, it blends in with the floor nicely. I like the stain / finish on the dresser and am afraid painting it white, while helping with the spacious effect, might cheapen its look in this particular case.

Those are all the suggestions I can think of, hopefully they weren't all fluff, but they're things I'd do or am doing. Best of luck, looking forward to an update whether or not I see the suggestions into play, I love remodels / reorganizing.

Well, for some basics....

Pick a color scheme. Easiest way to do this is to pick a main color and an accent color. Whatever your primary color is, you'll want your curtains/upholstery/bedding/rugs to conform to it, and the accent color can come into play in wall hangings, knick-knacks, etc. Each room can (and probably should) have its own scheme, but some re-usage of colors is fine.

Frame any posters or pictures you want on the walls. That goes a loooong way toward making the place feel like an adult lives there. You can get cheap frames that look nice at Michael's, or even Walmart.

Ikea is the default "cheap but nice" furniture place, but you can still rack up a huge bill there. Keep a close eye on craigslist and be patient. If you wait for the right deals you can save lots of money, even if it takes you some months to acquire everything you want.

Curtains and throw pillows. Get them.

You can try to "theme" certain spaces. For example, my kitchen is full of coca cola stuff, and my living room has several nerdy vintage travel posters. Even if you don't dedicate a whole room to a theme, you can do small areas.

A full set of floor rugs for your bathroom is a good idea. Get a matching shower curtain too.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, keep the place clean. Vacuum, pick up after yourself, and don't let the kitchen become gross. All your work decorating is for naught if there's garbage everywhere :p

Good luck!

Main issues: 1) furniture layout, 2) couch cover, 3) color theme/decor, and 4) ceiling light.

  1. Here is my guess at your current layout. It's not very balanced and all pushed on one wall. The radiator is also a bit of a challenge because you probably don't want to put anything in front of it. I would replace the shelf with something skinnier and taller, maybe a ladder shelf, and use the cabinet as a side table to the couch, which then would let you move the desk further down the wall, like so (could also add a chair to the desk).

  2. I don't know if it's to protect the couch or if the couch is just in poor condition, but using a real couch cover instead of a blanket would help. Maybe a light grey or white.

  3. Black, brown, and beige is a kinda meh color theme. I would choose 1 or 2 colors you like and add accents that contain those colors. To make it easy, lets go with blue. Get a couple solid blue or patterned throw pillows for the couch. A couple plants around the room (shelf, side table, coffee table, tv console) would really liven the place up, but also think about colorful vases or statues or lamps. A nice lamp on the side table would be nice (check local thrift stores for a good deal). Get at least 1 large picture/painting (or could be a multi-panel piece) above the couch and one on the wall to the left of the couch. Could be something simple and abstract or nature or prints or a mirror. Use them as a place to add color and personal style. (Maybe an elevated crazy dog lady piece lol.) You could also do a rug under the couch and coffee table, but it's not necessary.

  4. The light could be a major statement or more subtle. Having other lamps in the room would help with overall lighting. A walk through your local home improvement store may be helpful in finding what you like, but here are some directions you could go in: fancy/formal feeling light, modern and geometric, home-y, ceiling fan, simple and understated.
u/BayYawnSay · 2 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

Edit: the links I inserted below have parentheses within the link themselves so I apologise for the bad formatting

You need to establish the two areas of the rooms, the kitchen/dining area, as well as the living space. An area rug would work best in the main space. I would go with coordinating small round rug and one small kitchen floor mat in front of the sink.

I also suggest a small kitchen island with foldable counterspace as well as a cuppy underneath for the microwave. A couple of bar stools and you also have a dining space. This can go directly where the microwave is currently. If you get one on wheels it could easily be used for other sort of things such as game night to fit four people at.

The plant is a nice touch and I always say the more greenery the better. Focus on low light, low water plants for easiest indoor maintenance.

You also definitely need curtains.

A large decorative mirror as well as some art work on the wall above the sofa would brighten the space up as well as make it look larger. I would also move the tall lamp to the opposite corner near the TV and get a nice table lamp instead for beside the couch.

I'll include some links for pieces I would go for, based on the current color scheme available through the sofa and throw pillows.

Where in the world are you? I live in the UK so I don't want to give you poor advice. But what about something like the conair illumina? It isn't the most stylish if she wants something to display but functionally it is amazing. 3 paneled so you can see all angles, and 4 different light settings so you can see what your make up looks like in daylight, nightlight, workplace light and home lighting.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00066YC5W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1511728713&sr=8-1&keywords=conair%2Billumina&dpPl=1&dpID=41Qz6c4XNSL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

If she is looking for something more stylish but still functional, I would chose something like this. The Shinebright tri fold.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0768ZX8H8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511729157&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=illuminated+makeup+mirror&psc=1

It is well lit with loads of LEDs; tri fold and magnifying.

There is loads of choice for different budgets on Amazon which comes with detailed reviews. The things that are important to me in a vanity mirror are

Illumination - so I can get a natural look every time

Tri fold - so I can see all the angles easily

Magnification - part of the mirror is magnified so I can do detailed looks, pluck stray hairs, check pores etc etc.

Look of mirror - i don't want something that looks ugly or doesn't match my decor

Portability - If she doesn't have a travel mirror and wants to travel with it you might want to take this into consideration

Hope this helps and let us know what you chose!!

Get you a nice big mirror! Always nice to take a look at your outfit before you leave the bedroom in the morning. I was going to link you this one...before I saw the price and cried. A full length mirror would be really great, and you can find them cheapish at Target/Walmart/BB&B. Some of them even come with brackets to hang over a closet door - SUPER helpful!

u/_elx97 · 5 pointsr/makeuporganization

Thanks! I got it from amazon :) it was $90 when i got it but it’s on sale for $76! def recommend it if you are looking for a new mirror! it has 3 settings for the lights, warm, white, and neutral! link to get it here 😊

Thanks for this nice idea. I saw 1/2 cleat options and felt it was not so secure, given that mostly there will be down the wall force & pull away from wall force, but occasionally there might be some swing / ing that needs to secured/ locked against.

I did not like this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_cleat

But I do like this - Maybe need something that can manage more weight? or 2 of them?

Can you share some examples that would be more secure like the second one?

What do multi cleats look like?

PS: Could you also suggest some other "locking mechanisms" that could Augment the cleats and prevent unintentional dismount.

or maybe be alternatives to cleats?

Home sweet home needs a gorgeous accented Coffee Table

A Room divider although I'm not sure how well this fits your theme I think it's pretty.

A Jewelry Box and Another one

Some wall Mirrors Mirror2

We have One Two and Three Cabinet knobs.

I think these Suitcases would be good for storage and decor. Here's Another with a different Finish.

Floral Curtains

Quilt Rack?

One Two Three Four Pillow designs.

I think that's all for now xD Hope I stuck with the theme okay.

EDIT: I thought a Cuckoo Clock would be cool but that might stray a bit from the English part of the decor xD

u/donteatmenooo · 2 pointsr/HomeDecorating

Lots of greys and blue-greys. You can even have the walls be a light grey (which won't darken the room too much) and then have dark grey towels/mats and accents everywhere, and it will still look good. Search for "Kraken shower curtain" on Amazon; almost all of the ones Petit listed will be there, along with a bunch of other similar options.

Vinyl decals will be your friend. Tentacles coming out from behind the mirror? Uh, yes.

Portholes could be fun too, something like this:

Conair makes a decent one for pretty cheap. If you've got the space this one is super adorable. If you want to splurge a little, I'm a huge fan of the Costco ones which are between $50-100 depending on which model they're selling these days. I think but the lighting and quality is fantastic and worth spending a tad more.

The display is basically a monitor with a pc mounted to the back and the front had this acrylic taped to it so that it reflects and transmits some light Supreme Tech 12" x 24" Acrylic See-Through Mirror, 3mm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01G4MQ5OW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_uClgNZZuxvo6v, the facial recognition itself was fairly easy as the library is very well documented and had some code listed that pretty much did all I needed to get the name of the user it was the bit after programming it to log in and display my partner's schedule that was difficult haha

yo man, building one too. go with an acrylic mirror. You can read online why acrylic mirrors are better, but im sure you can see why with your current predicament. My screen is 12 x 20 so ill have to trim it down but this is where i got mine. The customer service is awesome too.

Here are the bits. if you don't mind helping me out (I make 3d printing videos etc..) Goto my Video for the same links as affiliate links. Regular links provided here if you don't want to do that. its also a good video on the Maker Select Duplicator I3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpcm4XEbP1Q

It is not monitized with ads.

I have purchased all of these with my own money and use all of them.

you can save a little cash by printing your own z brace parts but the kit is not that expensive and looks DAMNED good and is super fast to install. if I get another maker/i3 printer its what I will use (I printed my first one bought my second one) I actually installed my Z brace kit while it was printing :-)

If it has actually scratched the glass, you should probably flip it over now. Actually, think about buying one of these mirror tiles or something similar. I think it works even better than the glass that came with it.

Bed leveling is something you will have to do a lot so don't worry. You'll get used to it and get a feel for what produces the best results. Also, you can take this guy's advice for some extra help.

I really would love to decorate with these mirrors I have a cute idea in mind for them in my bathroom. Holy smokes, Batman!

u/miss_rosie · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

everyone needs a nice floor-length mirror. you need to know what you look like before you leave the house! 224

Are you saying you don't want a flip cover case? Because your description mentioned having a case with a wallet. It's going to be difficult to find one without a flip that has a wallet and a mirror. I would recommend getting a case like this and attaching a small mirror like this.

I was going to go for this:

I'm using an old laptop lcd screen so it's going to be pretty small.

This is what I used:

I have this mirror in black and I really enjoy it. I mean, it is pricier but it'll (hopefully) last me forever.

Darice 1635-85 Mirror-Square-12" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002PNUZAA?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

A mirror was suggested since you can visually see the warping and for that reason they tend to be much more reliable. It was night and day once it came in. Watching it warm up for a print right now in fact. Remember you’ll still have to level your bed but the warped glass will make that impossible, so fix with that tile first.

Am gasit tutorialu' asta si in loc de two way mirror foloseste asa ceva

De instalat si construit nu pare cine stie ce mare inginerie dar toate materialele ajung undeva pe la 8 mil.

I ordered this a few weeks ago: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038FFWJ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have no real complaints with it, it was easy to put together, not too heavy.
