>Wow that's a lot to take in. I'm happy you told me about the whole tweeter position.
> as I was about to try and turn them sideways cause I figured that my ears are up here so why put speakers below where my ears are.
>And your 100percent correct that the human mouth aims at the listeners ears.
>I haven't tried to play anything between 300 or 2000 hurts as yet. Is there a record or download I can get that will help me test that?

just anything vocal heavy. down to the river from "Oh Brother where art thou" the movie sound track is beautiful as is landslide by Fleetwood Mac the demo version or album version.

virtually all of her voice will be emanating not from the tweeter but from the woofer since the human voice tonally peaks before even 1000hz.

think about that. the human voice which is essentially the hardest thing to get right ranges from about 200hz to 1000hz and that's like Barry white and Mariah Carey minus her squeal which goes a bit higher.

and then around 1000-3000 is where lip noises breath the sound of consonants and sibilance are which is why our hearing is actually most sensitive there to allow us to be able to comprehend speech.

that range is such a hot spot that it's also the range of nails on chalk board and why the sound of people chewing with their mouths open cuts through the mix and is considered rude. it sounds louder to us than it really is...

a baby crying it's loudest, belting is what it's technically called, also falls within this range which again makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint.

so the role of the tweeter is really only reserved for the percussive sounds in vocals while tone is all handled by the woofer and tone is richness which is what you want the most of, while clarity on the other hand adds air and dimension / sound staging but is also fatiguing to our ears just like nails on chalk board.

in all music the entire spectrum is basically covered so at any given point you are actually hearing nails on chalkboard but along with other stuff so it doesn't sound as bad but regardless having that range a bit off axis is just more comfortable.

>Other wise they r great speakers and once I figure out how to get them hooked up to my Bluetooth I should be happy as a clam.

you can find pretty decent Bluetooth adapters with line out for around 20 bucks. just make sure it has good reviews and supports apt x.

>Thanks for your help, I feel good knowing that these are better than 5 pairs of ls50s! (And that must be a lot of speakers)

I like this one especially since it allows you to stream to two devices at once:

Check this out at Amazon.com - TaoTronics Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter/Receiver, Wireless 3.5mm Audio Adapter (aptX Low Latency, Pair 2 at Once, for TV/Car Sound System, Volume Control) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IV1H1ME/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_ZLAQDb9X2X27K

the advantage is also that it's super compact so I can carry it with me on a plane or something BUT it's range is limited. if you plan on expecting it to work across the house rather than just when you're in the room I'd grab something with actual antennas like this.

I think they're the same, one I thought was cheaper so I copied tbsh link too so I could check.

added: okay just reviewed my copied and pasted links, yea the last two are the same.

I am leasing mine. I drove a '97 Nissan pickup truck for 15 years. I don't drive more that 7K miles a year so I looked for the least expensive car to lease. It became a toss up between the Scion iQ - $99/month $1,919 due at signing and the Smart Car Pure Coupe – $107/month, $2,393 due at signing. I decided on the Smart Fortwo Pure Coupe. I decided on the Smart because:
1. It's made by Mercedes-Benz
2. Gets slightly better gas mileage than the Scion iQ.
3. Has a Mercedes-Benz Mitsubishi Engine

They advertise the Smart gets 36/38 city/hwy but I follow the Tips on Fuelly, feed it 91 octane as the manual recommends and am averaging 39.9 city, I don't drive hwy, don't have to. I got the base model and it came with a radio and A/C.

Being a bit envious of my friends that drive cars with all the latest technological gadgets I purchased a GOgroove FlexSMART X2 Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter with Charging , Music Control , and Hands-Free Calling for Smartphones which allows me to listen to Pandora, receive and make phone calls hands free and listen to the navigator on my Android phone all through the radio speakers. The GOgroove FlexSMART has a built in microphone and extra USB port to charge my Android phone while driving and simply plugs into the cigarette lighter. Also installed CarHome Ultra. And Power Widget Lite. So... when I'm ready to go, I turn on the GPS & Bluetooth using Power Widget Lite, start the GOgroove, start CarHome Ultra. Turn on the ignition, CarHome Ultra automatically pairs and connects to the GOGroove, plug the phone into GOgroove's Universal USB port, tap the Pandora button on CarHome Ultra and I am good to go. Sounds like a lot of work, but takes less than 30 seconds. I also have Ultimate Car Dock installed with a shortcut on CarHome Ultra so if I want to text and receive text I simply tap the Ultimate Car Dock shortcut on CarHome Ultra ( You can add shortcuts to apps on CarHome Ultra ) and can send & receive text messages via voice command.

Again, it takes a few seconds to set up before starting to drive but for a total of about $60 for the FM Transmitter and the apps I have all the "techie" bells and whistles (Or almost all of them ) of a $25 - $30K car.

I actually read the manual and also have it in PDF on my PC so I can search through it using key words.

The thing I especially like about Fuelly is you can text Miles or Odometer reading, Price of gas and how many Gallons ( M P G ) when you get car in the car after fueling and it returns your stats via text and updates your Fuelly page. For example, last time I filled up I texted
>1300 3.71 4.173 ( Mileage, Price & Gallons )

and immediately got a text back stating

>Fuel-up Added! MPG: 40.7, AVG MPG: 39.9.

Actual running cost so far after 7 weeks has been an average of $0.091 per mile for gas and my average MPG is 39.9 MPG city. Sure, I'm feeding it 91 octane which is on average about $0.15 to $0.20 more a gallon than regular but the great Avg MPG makes it worth it. Not to mention the fact that it is a lease and the manual recommends using 91 octane or above for maximum fuel efficiency.

My Brother has a VW Diesel and gets 40 MPG and we all know diesel is $0.20 to $0.30 more than premium.

Do I like my Smart Fortwo Coupe after driving a beat up '97 Nissan pickup for 15+ years? Damn right I do. Do I consider it an extension of my personality or drive it for the attention it gets? NFW.

And the comments I get are mixed, I either get " It looks like a death trap and I wouldn't be caught driving a silly little car like that" ( It has 8 air bags and a Tridium frame and was rated as "Good" on Car & Driver as far as safety goes.) or "What a nice little car, is it fun to drive?".

Do I give a flying fart what people think about the fact I am driving one? Not in the least.
IMHO it's an inexpensive and economical way to get around town. And when my lease is up, I fully intend to lease another one. ;-)

this has been my favorite case so far:
http://smile.amazon.com/Ringke-Absorption-Technology-Anti-Scratch-Protection/dp/B014RS5BHW/ref=sr_1_5?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1451311472&sr=1-5&keywords=nexus+5x+case
the button pressing action has been really nice--minimal resistance. the case itself is very customizable as you can use the template with any background or picture.

phone for use in my car:

best FM transmitter i've ever found, and highly reviewed via wirecutter.
i don't actually own this dash mount but man, do i want it. game changer. http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00RDQVPTY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OJFHJG4QML3E&coliid=I10BBT1M2MULXT&psc=1
this http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M6QODH2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 and this http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S8GU2OC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 make a pretty sweet car charging duo. the cable isn't flimsy, it's affordable, and spec compliant.
if one would be blessed not to need an fm transmitter on their automobile, i really like this http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00PTZEON0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OJFHJG4QML3E&coliid=INI8K30WP9S4L&psc=1

finally, as you start playing around with ROMS (to improve device performance as stock is pretty buggy and not particularly bueno with respect to battery life) you'll inevitably start making backups in twrp. you'll need to. those take up a lot of space. to ameliorate that, i suggest these: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00ZWN64RS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3OJFHJG4QML3E&coliid=I1YYV3CE6VXPNB&psc=1, http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YFI1EBC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

oh! there's also a pleson tempered glass screen protector on amazon for the 5x. it came in last week but i still haven't had a chance to install it. cheap and very highly reviewed.

Some of the things I've gotten that have made my life a little easier.

  • 12v 2-way splitter for the truck
  • Small Moleskine notebook (I write down addresses, run numbers, pertinent info because we do not have an MDT in our trucks)
  • Slim Wallet (I don't carry a purse to work and I will transfer my debit card, ID, and keep all my licenses in the wallet I linked, great for keeping in a pocket while at work. As a bonus, the company who makes the one I linked is from the city I live in.)
  • Window Punch These are pretty nice, not many places non-fire around here provide them on the trucks and they come in very handy if you need access and have beaten fire to the scene. I prefer these over the pen style.
  • Key Holder Good if she has a lot of different keys, some places still use keys to access their narcs, different parts of the building, etc.
  • Bluetooth Transmitter/Charger I have a new iPhone that does not have an aux port, these work great on our ambulances and have two fast charge ports to charge whatever you need. I use the splitter above to plug this and my GPS/Dashcam in.
  • Snack Subscription These are pretty cool a bit pricey in the long run though. Get pretty good/healthy snacks monthly with various price plans. Cuts back on the urge to grab that candy at the gas station if you have something better in your bag already.
  • Rite in the Rain Notebook Just ordered these and they haven't come in yet, they are awesome for onscene quick notes. Since we've moved to EPCR software I find that on really sick patients that we need to move and work on I still manage to keep physical notes which get shredded after the run is finished and it's transcribed to the computer. We use a normal flip book but these help organize things a little bit more, plus they're waterproof. Supposedly works best with their pens or just a normal pencil. Was a neat product I thought I'd try out and go from there. Also don't have to get the EMS version, plenty of other versions/styles to choose from.

I'm sure there are more and I'll come back and add them as I can think of them, these are some of the non-medical quality of life items I add to my every day to make things more bearable.
u/Regular_Erik · 1 pointr/Music

I'm in a similar situation with my car - no aux jack - and plan to keep this car till it turns to dust around me. So I've become quite familiar with a few FM transmitters. But firstly, it's worth mentioning that all FM Transmitters are garbage compared to direct input audio, at least in my experience.

But the best FM transmitter I've had thus far is this guy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018E0I01I

It's bluetooth so you don't have to deal with any cables that will undoubtedly twist and loosen and break. It's also a lot cheaper than the FM Transmitters you'd find stores like Best Buy (I've seen them for upwards of $50(!) in that place).

Some other advice... If you stick to mainly listening to music/radio/whatever through your phone and rarely use the actual radio, you will get a better, clearer signal for your FM Transmitter if you remove your car's antenna. A few years back my car's antenna got ripped off during a snow storm and it was the best happy accident I could have imagined. Because of that it's very easy to find a clear radio station to play the FM Transmitter through.

Good luck!

u/theotherdanlynch · 2 pointsr/homeautomation

Ok, it's been fun watching people post ridiculous product suggestions for such a simple request, but it's time to actually answer the question. Go buy a pair of something like this:

Then you can use whatever outdoor/waterproof powered speaker you want. Alternately, just get one transmitter and use a waterproof speaker (or two) that has bluetooth built in.

There are hundreds of little dongles like this. I just happen to like the fact that this one can be switched between being a transmitter or a receiver. That gives me a lot of confidence that the devices will work well together. Also, it's capable of transmitting to two different receivers at one time, so you'll be ready when you decide that you also just gotta have audio somewhere else outside.

If this product suggestion gives anyone the urge to indulge in verbal diarrhea regarding bluetooth audio quality, let me proactively advance the discussion by saying, "STFU". Bluetooth audio quality is an order of magnitude better than what's needed for normal outdoor speakers much less speakers that are going to be competing with the noise of a hot tub.
u/spyder994 · 1 pointr/Cartalk

I own both styles in different cars. I use them to listen to Audiobooks rather than music, so keep that in mind when I talk about sound quality. Bluetooth adapters are great because you can pause and skip from the adapter, and keep your phone in your pocket. I don't like the idea of my phone just sitting loose in the car. In the event of an accident, after which, you'll really need that phone, I don't want it to have gone flying somewhere.

In my car that has an aux port, I have an MPOW Streambot. It's very compact and has pretty good sound quality... no static or muddiness. Battery life is 7-8 hours before you have to recharge it through its micro-usb port. Build quality is a little suspect, but hey, it cost $15 and it hasn't broken yet. I can't complain too much.

In my car that doesn't have an aux port, I have a Nulaxy FM Transmitter. As FM transmitters go, it is pretty great. There is only one frequency here in Dallas I can tune to and not get static, but that's all I need. You can use Radio Locator to find empty frequencies in your area. I feel like the sound quality is just a touch muddy sometimes, but it is far better than any other FM transmitter I've used.

A bluetooth head unit is the ideal solution, but at much higher cost and complexity.

u/notaneggspert · 1 pointr/audiophile

This might be slightly more headphone oriented but I'm looking at getting a blue-tooth audio RX/TX so I can listen to TV/Music late at night without bothering my housemate through our thin shitty walls.

The only experience I have with blue-tooth audio is with the Sony MW600 that uses Bluetooth 3.0. I've found it has a very noticeable impact on audio quality even through Samsungs Oem headphones and my cars stock system.

Was bluetooth 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 a big jump in audio quality?

4.0 RX/TX for $24 Lacks Pass through charging so not extremely interested but still an option

4.1 RX/TX for $34 This supports pass through charging so I'm leaning towards this.

My Galaxy S7 has bluetooth 4.2 and my desktop has 4.0.

As I understand it 4.2 adds a big jump in transfer speeds but I'd imagine that my mostly 320kbps library with a few flacs, Spotify premium and the stereo output from my TV is is well under the transfer speed of even 4.0.

I'm not listening through super high end gear. Wired will be the cheap yet awesome Beteran KZ ATE w/ Mic and an inexpensive pair of in-ear bluetooth headphones like these or a also cheap but good over ear set. I need to do a little more research into bluetooth headphones but right now I'm focused on which bluetooth TX/RX to buy. Leaning towards in-ears since their more portable.

___
/r/headphones seems to recommend these $70 over ear bluetooth headphones or these $27 in ear bluetooth headphones. As far as I can tell most of those ~$25 in ear headphones are pretty much all clones of each other with mostly the same internals and user interfaces.
__
Not looking for the best bluetooth set up I don't have the money for it. But I don't want to notice and regret the drop in audio quality every time I go wireless over a 3.5mm cable as I do with the MW600.

u/mightyscoop · 1 pointr/Porsche

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but RF is probably the easiest and most cost effective way.
See my 987S: http://imgur.com/BR3OMCY

This is the unit I purchased. It works well enough, the most important thing is to find a good clean frequency for it to operate. If you plug it into the center console port, it will auto-off/on with the car, as well. I have a desire to figure out how to intercept the input into the head unit from the 6-disc changer and split it over, but I know the Bose is much more difficult due to the optical platform and would require changing out almost or all of the audio system.

u/chromecarz00 · 1 pointr/galaxys5

Hey dude.

Late post, I know, but I've been doing some research on the best FM transmitters (had the Soundfly by Satechi, 3 actually, first one was great and the second two had quality issues. Have had at least 4 or 5 other ones before it back in 08, but since I found that haven't looked back).

The one that seems pretty legit is this one. It's got insane amounts of reviews and most of them good.

http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-FlexSMART-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Hands-Free/dp/B003PPGOC0/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0EW15K19BWQ23TCH09BQ

Hopefully this kind of helps.

u/Maxesse · 1 pointr/funny

Tbh I got a £9.99 one off amazon that covers the entire fm spectrum and use it throughout Central london regularly on 89.5. Never have to change frequency and it sounds as good as listening to a powerful radio station. I'm pretty happy with it! Years ago I had one I paid like £35 and it was abysmal at best even in rural areas. Just found which one it is in case somebody is interested: TeckNet® In Car Universal FM Transmitter - http://amazon.co.uk/dp/B001AIM5ZE

u/jlee14 · 2 pointsr/iphone

I'm going to go right ahead and agree with this guy, you can go the Bluetooth route.

BAM!

GOgroove FlexSMART X2 Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter with... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PPGOC0/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_YRB5tb0DT11TC

Had this for a few years and it works perfectly. It's worth if you really want to play your favorite songs in the car for sure. It also has the added bonus of hands free calls, but it's mediocre at best it works but it could be better.

u/TenOunceTalk · 5 pointsr/AskScienceDiscussion

This is a good BT transmitter/receiver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B4W40VC/ that I've been using for quite a while. Has its own internal battery too.

RPi is an inexpensive powerful DIY computer (super easy to build) that can be used to make almost anything. Search for "Raspberry Pi Projects" and "Arduino" to get an overview. You can make breadboard circuits and write code to control them, etc. Kits have audio, video, mic, lights, and all kinds of other neat abilities. It's great for intelligent, creative kids (and adults).

With a Pi, you could control the lights in your house to come on when you say a specific word. You can hook up a Pi to interface with your car's computer and make it display detailed data from it. You can turn a Pi into a retro gaming console. You could use it as a media center, accessible from all your TVs. You could turn it into an instrument of you wanted to. Really, it's limitless.

u/mistical · 2 pointsr/AskTechnology

The following should work with their TV so that they can simultaneously use the TV speakers for him and the Toslink/RCA hookup for her. I won't give guarantee's but it should since it's at least a newer TV model since you mention it being a smart TV. So if you wanted to buy the bluetooth transmitter and test it it out with a bluetooth device/speaker you already own (if any) before going any further, you could do that.

I did a similar hookup for my SO's family for different reasons, and set them up with this bluetooth transmitter (it has aptX support too): https://amazon.com/HomeSpot-Wireless-Bluetooth-Transmitter-supported/dp/B00QV77YIC - There are other devices out there like this, this was a relatively cheap option for them and having never used it before, it worked and with no problems. I'll likely pick one up myself for future use too.

I didn't set them up with bluetooth (wireless) headphones but instead bluetooth speakers. But I'd highly recommend looking for bluetooth headphones that support the aptX codec (preferably with Low Latency) so the voices are in sync as much as possible if not perfect. I've seen the difference with and without it as well as it annoys more people without it and it's noticeable.

I'm not sure of your price range for the bluetooth headphones, but here are a few from Amazon that support aptX and SOME (not all) with Low Latency too:

I'm still kinda new to the audiophile stuff and only know about closed backs in the ~$100 range but I personally have a pair of Coolermaster mh752/1's and I'm loving those, they're amazingly comfy straight out of the box and the audio is very good for the price. Other than that I've read that the audiotechnica ath M40x has better audio than the mh752's but the pads have to be replaced before they're usable. For the mpow adapter [these] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KXIKCSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8uYGCbE4VRMYM) were the ones that were recommended to my by some other people. you can probably do a quick search for ~$200 headphones and just buy an adapter to go with it.

Honestly, I know you already have the Pi around and all, but once you spend money on materials (and you would need some to accomplish something like this), you'll be better off buying a moderately priced Bluetooth receiver like this one.

Between accounting for trying to shut down cleanly on a power loss when the car shuts off (so as to not corrupt or damage the SD card), and buying a case and mounting hardware for in the car, it'll almost certainly be cheaper, and it'll definitely be less frustrating. The Pi has a significant boot time, for one, so bluetooth audio wouldn't be available for a minute or so after starting the car, which would either mean waiting in the driveway with the car on waiting for it to boot, or fiddling with connecting your phone while on the road, which isn't safe. And there are plenty of other challenges to get around, too.

I'm absolutely not down on trying things out and going DIY. If you're looking to do this as a fun exercise in order to learn something, then you should still do it, but if you're doing it because you actually want a bluetooth receiver, there's just no way that the Pi is going to be more cost-effective or sanity-friendly. If you're looking to learn about wheels, it sometimes makes sense to do the work to reinvent them, but if you're actually trying to make something practical that happens to have tires, you're probably better off just buying pre-made ones, you know what I mean?

Replacing pads on the SHP9500 is not that difficult, just a little more involved. There is the Shure 1540 pad which is made from Alcantara and very nice, a little better than velour for comfort/breathable feeling. Only thing is they are darker sounding and really require you to peel off the foam backing (tedious work) to get rid of the slight veil/muffled quality they have. The Shure 1840 velour pads are my preference as they retain the stock sound but are more comfortable than stock and with custom attenuator placed in the pads the bass is what it should be. The 1840 pads are also 1/2 the price of the 1540 pads.

As for sheepskin, I have always found it better than pleather for breathability, but velour is best along with whatever Sennheiser uses for their HD700 pads.

For $30 you can get a highly regarded Bluetooth adapter to make the M40X, SHP9500, or any other headphone, wireless:

https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones-Hands-free/dp/B01KXIKCSI

SHP9500S + 1540 pads + MPOW + Boom PRO mic would be around $150...

Thanks for the link/photo/recommendation! Have you tried pairing this to a surround sound receiver?

I have an Onkyo 7.1 setup with a Bluetooth input I'd love to use for Beat Saber so I'm not sweating up headphones, but the built-in Bluetooth on the Quest won't pass audio to it at all even though it pairs. It's this, or I use a 25 foot stereo aux cable and then I'm tethered again like with the PSVR lol.

Also, did you see the upgrade option that supposedly lets you pair two devices? Wondering if this would be a better option to pair headphones and/or a surround receiver when in a party situation perhaps - little bigger but not much: https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Wireless/dp/B01IV1H1ME/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

I'm still happily using this MPow one well over a year on, most of which time I've been moving it back and forth from one car to another. Sadly, it's no longer available.

When I decided to get a second one to eliminate the swapping, I got this Nulaxy one which has also been great so far,... but I've only had it for a month or so.

The MPow one is built solidly - I can't imagine it breaking, so I'd expect their newer model to be solid as well. Interestingly, though, it seems that a number of different brand names of these devices are literally the same hardware, with brand-specific firmware as the only distinguishing difference. So generalizing about hardware/manufacturing may be invalid. E.g., here's another that looks to be the same hardware as the discontinued MPow, but still available. Scrolling through the available models, I see at least 4 other brands that look identical to the MPow and numerous ones that look identical to the Nulaxy.

Exactly how have the ones you've had failed?

[Edit - caveat: I've been perfectly happy with both devices for playing music (flac player on Samsung Note 3 > Bluetooth to fm), but never have gotten the MPow to perform as a speakerphone worth a crap. Its mic just doesn't pick up my loud voice in a moving car competing against road noise, though it's possible I just haven't been able to adjust its input volume properly. I haven't had a chance to try the Nulaxy one yet as a speakerphone. ]

If the radio doesn't have an "AUX" mode, then this really isn't possible to do. Given your car is a 2000, it's highly unlikely an AUX port was even an option.

Two solid alternatives:

  1. Purchase an FM Modulator, like this or this. They're relatively easy to install, and you can probably do it yourself. It basically works like an FM Transmitter, but connects directly into your antenna port for a much cleaner signal. It can also be switched on or off, so you keep full use of your radio.
  2. Purchase an aftermarket head unit. It's certainly cheaper to do an FM Modulator, but upgrading to a good aftermarket head unit will make you happier in the long run. Especially with a stock head unit from 2000, you're bound to start having trouble with it at some point in the near future.

    Hope this helps!

I like to use this trond bluetooth adapter and you may be curious on why I say choose this one. Here are some good reasons to get it. Say if you want to use it with your TV at night so you dont wake anyone up this is great for that because it plugs directly into your aux port on the tv and it also comes with a aux cable but say if you TV doesn't have an aux output on it but has a L - R output on the tv it comes with an adapter for that. edit: forgot to say it also has a 10 hour battery on it. edit2: you can also try something like this I copied it and its great. Here is the velcro I used and the cable that I had in one of my drawers was this one but you definitely don't need it thats kinda overboard.

There are Bluetooth transmitters that he can hook up to that speaker jack (I just bought one for my mother's TV), but they need to be powered. Here's the one I bought. It's big but probably still easily small enough to fit on a motorcycle.

https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Audikast-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones/dp/B077MXFJGQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=EE7IX7OEDVOI&keywords=audikast+bluetooth+transmitter+for+tv&qid=1557076940&s=electronics&sprefix=audikast%2Cmobile%2C237&sr=1-3

This particular device gets its power via USB, and it looks like this thing can be hooked to his battery:

Yes. I especially enjoy listening over the car speakers via the bluetooth link. It's easy to set up if you have the right hardware.

  • Flexsmart X2 for Bluetooth-to-FM in our older car.

  • FIPO iPod to Bluetooth adapter Not really $95 as indicated in the link. More like $10-20. Great for hooking up to a car that supports the iPod Dock Connector.

I also use the Tasker App to auto-launch Google Music as soon as it detects the bluetooth link-up.

I have an 04 Subaru that doesn't even have an aux jack, and this has been the best purchase I've made recently. I use it every day, sound quality is good enough that I can hear audiobooks clearly over high speed road noise (and my car is noisy), bass sounds solid, music quality is way better than AM/FM radio. And it has a USB port so I can still charge my phone at the same time. The built in microphone isn't great, but it's good enough and is super low hassle and easy to use.

I have a "regular" 5.1 system in the living room that allows me to be on 1 input but have two inputs connected. One goes to my PC, and the other is basically an aux port where I plugged in a bluetooth receiver that is connected to an electrical socket and always on. You just pair up and is always ready. The surround system just overlaps the PC and BT audio if both are playing. I also have a 2.1 in the bedroom with a single input and I have the same kind of receiver connected (that one is powered by the included typical USB wall adapter). Something like this is what I have in the bedroom while I have the wall mount similar to this one in the living room.

I have been wanting this damn feature in google home for a while now. I got it free (mini) with my Pixel 2 but the only real use is asking for weather, timers, and occasional questions when talking to people and wanting a fact straightened out. I never cared for the music in the mini because it sucks for audio quality and sound propagation. I don't want to buy any chromecasts when my house speakers are wireless (bluetoothed) already. I especially like I can have my bedroom and living room both playing from a single source for the multi-room audio. Very cool.

u/badnamebandit · 9 pointsr/techsupport

You can get a bluetooth Fm transmitter that will plug into your car and allow you to usb charge your phone and play music. Any 2003 car is not going to have the best sound but this will be much better than a cassette converter. Plus you have the added benefit of charging your phone. Here is a link for one on amazon with good reviews.

Car stereo is a little vague. We will need to know at least the model of your car and what you are actually trying to improve. Do you want upgraded speakers, upgraded headunit or just better sound and an aux input?

I've installed a bunch of car stereos for friends and I've also had good luck with inline fm modulator. Unlike regular fm modulator which wirelessly connect, these ones directly connect to the antenna cable located behind your headunit.

FM Modulator

Disclaimer: The link above is just a random modulator I found on amazon. This is not a specific product recommendation only a possible cheap solution.

I was in a similar situation and bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/Nulaxy-Wireless-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Adapter/dp/B018E0I01I works great, just set it to an unused FM frequency and it's nice and clear. The Amazon reviews and bestseller status are also a good indicator. Even has AUX input, if needed. Save $1470. Recommended.

Bluetooth's default codec has high latency which means that the video/audio will go out of sync and the sound quality will be shite, at least for me.

aptX is a codec that's meant to fix that, and aptX-LL (Low Latency) would be the best choice for streaming desktop audio wirelessly.

Buy the FiiO BTR1, which is aptX+aptX-LL capable receiver and also buy a transmitter that's capable of aptX-LL (like this, this or this) and you'll not regret having aptX capable gear after trying to watch normal YouTube videos or game on that crappy default BT connection.

I believe macOS can utilize aptX by default, but if you have a Windows PC and do not have a 3.5mm jack to hook up the transmitter to, then you can buy an aptX-capable dongle like this and install the CSR Harmony BT stack because the default Microsoft BT stack does not properly support aptX.

I have a BTR1 and the CSR 4.0 dongle that I linked above and I get near zero latency unless I go too far (it switches codec to the default BT one if I go too far) - I'm not sure if it's using aptX-LL though, but it's definitely using aptX.

The upcoming FiiO BTR3 and the Bluewave GET also support aptX-HD apart from aptX-LL, but I don't think most media can even use such a high bitrate, so aptX-LL will be fine for now.

I guess you can ignore my advice if you are happy with the Mpow receiver (like many people) - I didn't use it personally, but my experience with non-aptX devices has been awful.

u/Zirillian · 1 pointr/essentialphone

If you're implying that you can't use bluetooth in your car, but you can use an Aux cable...assuming that you aren't using headphones, do yourself a favor and get one of these:

It works excellent; I've used many different versions and brands (moving from Bluetooth 2.0 up to 4.1) and they all accomplish the same thing, and the new ones sound fantastic (better than aux because there's no volume limit).

u/tr1ppn · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have a bunch of items listed as highest priority. It was a guitar up until I bought one for myself at guitar center. Now I need things like a stand, picks, a strap, etc.

My highest priority item is probably this toolkit which has been on my WL since I joined RAOA. I have no idea why I still haven't just gotten it for myself considering I could have many times over. We have basically no tools in our apartment, so I'm even more useless than normal when it comes to fixing things.

I REALLY need a new 360 controller. I may or may not have shattered mine a while back, and I'm currently playing with it held together by tape, and sometimes a button or two doesn't work. It's really frustrating.

I also have GT6 listed as highest, because it is honestly my favorite gaming franchise of all time, and I love every one of the GT games.

This thing is listed as highest because I would really like to listen to my own music in the car, but don't have an aux cable. I can get one, but I need a special part (because my car stereo is set up REALLY stupid), and it's $120 and comes from the UK. That item is listed as highest priority too, but it's not on amazon.

By the way, you are awesome :D :D

I'm your guy, I've tried tons of these. I have two setups that I can recommend.

I recommend this one the most, it's been the best and most reliable for quite some time for me. Sound quality is great. Also, it has bluetooth, which works great. Just a tip, use the bluetooth and download an app called Android Auto. It's a driving friendly interface that combines your music/podcast apps, navigation, phone app, and Google Voice commands for texts if you need. You can text by voice and it gives you the option to speak your text messages when you get them. You can also set the app to automatically start and shut off when your phone's bluetooth turns on or off.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PPGOC0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Or, this one, really good so far, seems as good as the first but the first is really durable.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AIM5ZE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's a tip for the best sound quality out of these if you'll only use your FM transmitter in your car and not the radio. Unscrew the antenna out of your car and toss it in a closet or somewhere. Then a lot of low to medium signal radio stations won't interfere. Which is the cause of like 90% of the bad quality you'll hear.

MEE Audio AirFi Matrix 2

But I do not recommend a battery powered headphone during workouts where sweat / water is involved. A well isolating wired IEM is a lot better (IMHO). Anyway, can't go wrong with the Matrix 2, very decent sound and aptX support for less than 80€ is a great deal. And some of the very well renowned reviewers have given this BT headphone better scores than the 399€ Sennheiser Momentum Wireless :D

Reposting because I want some more opinions;

Which is the better one;

The MEE Audio Air-fi Matrix 2 (https://www.amazon.com/MEE-audio-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B00DOP3NPW)

or the Avantree Audition (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00J0BXPD4/ref=pd_aw_lpo_23_tr_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=EEGFT2FH61519RXP84BZ)

or the Cowin E-7 (is it worth it paying the $10 premium for active noise cancelling?? (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019U00D7K/ref=pd_aw_lpo_23_bs_img_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=EEGFT2FH61519RXP84BZ&th=1#LUXAddressSelector_1495111143837)

The things that I find most important are comfort, sound leakage, sound quality and build quality. I would like these, especially comfort and build quality, to be taken in account.

u/Gundato · 2 pointsr/roosterteeth

Definitely consider the transmitter. Older models used to have serious interference problems, in large part because the wire connecting the MP3 player/whatever acted as an antenna in and of itself. Bluetooth models (and probably anything with a shielded wire) have fewer issues as it is intended to be an antenna so it doesn't interfere (think of it as the difference between a pipe that only leaks a drip rather than a spray).

I recently purchased a bluetooth one http://www.amazon.com/FlexSMART-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Hands-Free-Smartphones/dp/B003PPGOC0/ since my car's cd player has been crapping out and I am going to be driving cross country in a few weeks.

In limited testing, it works fairly well. I still get a bit of noise at times (I am in an area with a lot of FM radio stations and I basically drive toward a giant one every morning), but it is at least comparable to listening to normal radio. For what it is worth, it is currently outputting in between two other stations (88.4 in between 88.3 and 88.5), so it is definitely able to work in busy areas and can work a lot better if I could be arsed to find a more free frequency.

And if you would rather use an MP3 player or anything else that can't connect by bluetooth, that model also has a normal audio in port. And either way, you can still use your port to charge your phone/whatever since it has a USB charging port too (that may or may not act as an input).

That was the first thing that came in mind and my solution was buying a tiny Bluetooth adapter for my car and some badass Bluetooth earphones. Took a bit to getting use to but life has actually been a lot easier with these two cheap easy solutions and no longer having to deal with an extra cable. Haven't dealt with any connection issues too, just switch on Bluetooth and they connect right away and have awesome sound quality.

I won't lie, I'm a big fan of these headphones. I ran for two years with that but now is the time for me I think to change. I'm starting to do longer runs more regularly and they are fairly hot on my head, specially in hot weather. It never bothered me much but it's starting to now. I shopped for a while for alternatives to overear headphones for my running and everything isn't perfect.

I'm used to the great sound of overear headphones and I often listen to music fairly loudly. I've tried Aftershokz Air and even though it's comfortable and cool technology and very light, the sounds isn't loud even at maxed volume which is disappointing.

I know it's a very vague question but outside of Plantronics backbeat fit I haven't seen anything worth buying really, specially when all the options I've seen are well over 125$ where my current are 80$ and have been literally indestrucible. They suffered rain, snow and a huge amount of sweat.

Thanks in advance

If it's a 2013, there's an outside chance that the factory radio has bluetooth. I'd suggest you look in to this, as this will be the most ideal scenario, you can just pair your phone and have a wireless connection.

If you don't have bluetooth on that radio, do you have an AUX input? It'll look like a headphone jack. If you've got an AUX input, you could buy something like this off of Amazon and your phone will pair to that device, which pipes the audio to your stereo. If you're creative, you could install this in your car somewhat permanently and have it look clean.

u/_suburb · 5 pointsr/sonos

I use the optical out on a Sonos Connect attached to a Bluetooth transmitter to listen on my Bluetooth headphones. It's fine for music, where the delay doesn't matter, but don't expect to be able to use it for tv/video, as the audio will be way out of sync. It works great. This is the transmitter that I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016NIOOH2/

Also, having the Connect has allowed me to rig up a turntable to play across the Sonos system. Works like a charm.

u/avboden · 1 pointr/cars

this is also a really good one it's a bluetooth in FM transmitter BUT it has AUX out so you don't need to use the FM stuff. As a bluetooth unit it's good, and gives you basic phone-call ability too.

I have it, been really happy, and it's cheap

u/Tec_ · 1 pointr/CarAV

So the basic would be a FM transmitter. Moving up from that you get a hardwired FM transmitter. Again up from that would be a device like the PAC-audio AAI-HD3 or the grom audio device. Again moving up you've got units from isimple and grom that add Bluetooth streaming and hands free capability. But at that price point it's starting to hit the level where it's more cost effective to replace the radio. I would recommend replacing the radio out of all the solutions available. It will add more functionality and just sound and work better in the long run.

u/RaleighEnt · 1 pointr/raleigh

Honestly you might want to look for a new FM transmitter. Sounds like yours is pretty weak. I got one just like you described in Amazon for $15 and it works great. Even if a channel is occupied this thing is powerful enough to override whatever's being broadcast, and there's almost no interference once I find a channel thats mostly static. Here's the one I got if you're interested.

u/BreakFromMonotony · 2 pointsr/headphones

For any of you Bluetooth pioneers:

I have a pair of B&O H7's that I purchased specifically so that I can use them while moving about my office while having audio/video streaming from my desktop computer. My problem is that they are at a noticeably lower volume while connected via Bluetooth to my computer, than they are when connected to my iPhone. Volume works great when connected via Bluetooth to phone, so I've concluded that it's a transmitter/computer issue. I have tried a simple USB Bluetooth transmitter, a more expensive USB Bluetooth transmitter, as well as an externally powered 3.5MM transmitter connected via an amp, and they all yield the same volume issues. I have also turned the volume all the way up on the headphones using the built-in controls.

Just curious if anyone has experienced similar, or has a recommendation for a transmitter setup that has better volume output? I just find it so weird that the issue doesn't exist when connected to my phone, that I'm positive there is SOME way to get it fixed with my computer.

Thanks!

It's not the fanciest solution, but I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-FlexSMART-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Hands-Free/dp/B003PPGOC0

My car stereo doesn't even have an AUX input and the way the stereo is integrated into the dash, no easy way to install an aftermarket stereo. The GoGroove connects to your phone with Bluetooth, and then transmits the signal over FM to your car stereo. I've had other FM transmitters over the years and this is the best I've used.

Of course it's not perfect. If you need to do important phone conferences from your car, I'd get something nicer. For the occasional call, this works pretty well. I use it more for streaming music from my phone than for calls.

How might I go about utilizing a headphone amp while still being wirelessly attached to my desktop? Apt-X LL is a requirement.

There's the one I purchased. You can find plenty that look similar to it at a fraction of the price. Get a cheap Bluetooth fm transmitter, I've got a couple of them for my vehicles and they are like $20. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018E0I01I I jump in the car and it kicks on and says "Waiting for Perry" It's supposed to say pairing but it's a Chinese attempt at a British accent so it sounds more like Perry. Then it says "Paired" and I play my music. I know everyone says they suck but I think it works just fine other than when it randomly switches to Chinese language every couple months and I have to switch it back to English, but who fucking cares it's like 20 bucks.

My sister got a car with bluetooth, but here's the thing: Media playback only works on apple devices.

That's right, for android phones you can only use it for calls. I would have noped out of that right at the start no matter how good the rest of the car is.

I've had this thing for years and it still works perfect. Sounds better than any other FM transmitter I've tried and it has line out in case you have an aux in on your car as well as line in for devices that don't have bluetooth. The line in works even when something is pared, so you don't have to turn off bluetooth.

u/Giving_You_FLAC · 3 pointsr/fireTV

Bluetooth doesn't work that way, the fire tv would need two separate BT radios for that to work. The best you'll get would likely be something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-PHA05BT-Bluetooth-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B0065V9TXC

It's a BT headphone amp- so you'd set this up to be the BT "headphones" for the FTV, then use a headphone splitter to feed two pairs of wired headphones.

If you have a headphone out from your speaker system or TV (depending on how things are set up) you could go headphone out to one of these which has dual BT radios for 2 sets of BT headphones: https://www.amazon.com/MEE-audio-Universal-Headphone-Transmitter/dp/B016NIOOH2

Note: I have used none of these products, but they appear to be two examples of workarounds for your scenario. Best of luck!

Can't say I agree with you on A/C, but everything else is spot-on.

The biggest thing with bluetooth is that you can actually add it yourself, with any car that has an aux jack already... for like $20.

Like... bam.

People act like it's a vital feature that you could never not have built-into the car.

Meanwhile, go ahead and try to add a backup camera to a car gracefully. It's doable, but you'll still be doing some surgery every single time.

5% may not be accurate, but they'll be accounting for how often it gets used, too, and how easy of a problem it is to solve with an adapter.

This thing might be pretty cool, as it'd work for non-iPhones and work wirelessly for times when you don't need to plug it in to charge. It's fairly cheap with good reviews.

u/xodakahn · 1 pointr/siriusxm

They aren't dumb questions. Yes, with two car kits and a home kit it would be extremely easy to switch between car, truck and dorm. I'm not sure if this is still the same, but the dorm could be a bigger issue. Back in the older days, the home kits needed the antenna to have a good line of sight with the satellite and with my XM radios, I sometimes had to have the antenna outside. The dorm probably wouldn't allow that.

But one thing to consider is what I do now. I do everything through my phone and either the car's bluetooth. I have an older car and use one of these bluetooth FM transmitters. It sounds good. And if you already have an account the online is pretty cheap.

The data costs could be cheaper than a radio, two car kits and a home kit.

u/xXdeathstar101Xx · 2 pointsr/Moto_Z

I recommend getting a Bluetooth to radio adapter. You plug it into a cigarette lighter outlet, and it connects to your phone via Bluetooth, and plays music by radio signal. I found it to be pretty handy, and I don't have that much interference from radio, I just use one of the super low frequency's, like 88.7 or 88.9.
Here's the one I have, I recommend it.

u/Nixflyn · 10 pointsr/Android

Off the top of my head,

Cheap: MEE Audio Air-Fi Matrix 2, $59, aptX support for far better Bluetooth listening than non aptX cans

Not so cheap but quality: Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless, usually $200 but showing as $300 right now? Also supports aptX.

There lots of brands that offer good Bluetooth cans. ATH, Vmoda, sennheiser, AKG, etc.

Now, Bose does have some models that are decent, like the QC35, but they're the exception now a days. It's a real bummer too, I used to buy a ton of Bose stuff. And too bad the market is pretty saturated with mostly fashion cans for Bluetooth. You pay a lot for being pretty.

I have a Bluetooth to FM transmitter right now (This one 4.5/5 stars and 4,000+ reviews) but I'm still unhappy with the sound, but I'm not sure if it's the speakers, the stereo (Because there's no external amp, it's being powered by the stereo) or the speakers. It's fuzzy/muddy, it clips, etc.

Although replacing the speakers would be done anyways, so maybe I will just start with that..... And maybe put an external amp in between the MSSS and speakers, so it can be a little more powerful without having to remove the stereo..... Really the only "broken" part is the Mode button, which switches between top up or top down sound modes, doesn't work right so I had to put a McDonalds straw shim in to keep it depressed, and the cassette player doesn't work.

So I'm torn because I'd like to have a modern stereo and just be able to plug a device in, but I also don't want to get rid of the MSSS (Although I did see an AUX mod for it). Thanks for letting me talk this out by the way, it's definitely helping. I think I will start with the speakers, then maybe an amp, and if I still don't like the way it sounds, I will remove it, store it somewhere safe, and throw a new deck in there.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I have a question regarding cassette adapters vs FM Transmitter Radio. I have an old 2004 Hyundai Sonata so I am currently using this in my car to listen to music on my phone. I've had it for a minute now but recently the quality has deteriorated and is no longer acceptable. I wanted to buy it again however I saw this product on amazon. I was wondering if this would provide better audio quality compared to the cassette adapter? Or if anyone has any other options that can provide the best sound quality possible for my car, i'm open to all suggestions.

Weird off-brand bluetooth headphones, but they fit well, sound good, and have a jack on the cup, so you can replace the cable with a shorter one if you have it, or just tie the included cable up in the Vive headstrap like I do. Haven't even tried using them wirelessly because I don't want to bother charging them.

Put on Vive, put on headphones, find cable, plug into headphones. Done.

Stuff to get:

FM transmitter. Can not stress how wonderful this is on a long drive. Radio music is crap so you can play your own songs or Spotify. I had this one in my last car and it worked fantastic, but I'm sure cheaper ones work just as well. Lets you charge at the same time too.

If you live where ice is this is the best ice scraper you will ever own.

u/PocketSpoon · 1 pointr/headphones

would not recommend open headphones if you plan to use them in the public. As far as Bluetooth goes, most of them tend to have more bass than neutral (i guess people tune the bass higher to drown out the noise when you're on the go to help passive isolation). I wouldnt say open are strictly better, that's a huge oversimplification and you shouldn't dismiss closed headphones because of that.

for a cheapo pair you can consider these Air Fi Matrix 2. They sound pretty good for the price although im not sure about the mic quality.

Otherwise something higher end would be V Moda Crossfade Wireless. consider getting the XL pads with these as they are far more comfortable

I have my android set up to connect via BT when I get in the car, and then just use Google Play Music to stream whatever I want over the radio.

Best. Gadget. Ever.

Of course, you're going to get a little degradation of sound due to the FM transmission, but it sounds leagues better than a cassette adapter and allows you to make and receive calls, fast forward/backward, and stop pause your music.

The handsfree calling isn't the best on the other end, but they can hear me and the calls work just fine. I've never had one drop.

No, I don't work for the company... I just love mine. Even has a USB jack to charge your phone while you're using it, or just in the car.

I even have a little app that reads out my texts received over bluetooth, so I get that as well using this.

> I know there are plenty of Bluetooth adapters out there, but this is not what I'm looking for.

But it sounds exactly like what you are looking for. Care to elaborate what a bluetooth adapter like this does not cover? Heck, that thing can even act as a receiver if you want!

u/Thatuserguy · 9 pointsr/amazonecho

So I haven't tested this, but I THINK this should actually work for what you want. It does require you buying extra stuff though, and it's certainly not the most cost effective thing in the world either.

First off, you need to buy a 2-way headphone splitter. Plug the male end into the audio out on your Dot. Then buy two bluetooth transmitters that plug into audio ports (like this one or this one).

Those transmitters I linked are able to stream to two bluetooth receivers at once, meaning you can stream to all three of your speakers (and potentially upgrade to four later) just using two transmitters.

Then it's just a matter of pairing the transmitters with your speakers. Theoretically, Alexa should start playing through all of them at the same time if you set it up right. Again, not the most cost effective thing in the world, but it should work, assuming you're using the speakers within range of the transmitters anyways. The transmitters need electricity, so there will be wires regardless though. Sadly not much you can do about that as far as I'm aware.

He bought himself a cheaper version of these from Dollar General a few years ago and it was a piece of junk and so he never used it. The new one I got him though works awesome. No static, never cuts out, sound is crisp and clear. It was definitely worth the money.

avoid FM transmitters.

They don't work very well. There are lots of ways you can get audio from your phone to your car stereo.

The cheapest way to do it correctly is an FM Modulator, these hook up directly into your car's antenna port. I had this one. Does require removal of the radio to plug into the antenna port, and it needs a power and a ground tapped into. But this way is totally worth it, if you don't want to tackle it yourself, a shop would probably charge about $50 to install it.

I wouldn't ever suggest an FM transmitter because you probably will be constantly fiddling with it while driving due to its un-reliable signal broadcasting, and the cheaper it is, the worse it will be at giving good signal.

Alternatively, the best way to go is just to replace your radio, JVC has a couple of cool inexpensive radios that are under $100, they have USB connectivity for iPods and iPhones, and also have bluetooth for handsfree calling and A2DP streaming (wireless audio streaming). I had one of these in my SVT Focus, it took about 15 seconds after starting the car for the radio to pair with the phone, but it would automatically start playing the last song I had playing in my music app, so there wasn't any fiddling with the phone every time I got in the car.

Edit: THIS is the newer model of the JVC I used to have, sounded really good too. Note that this doesn't have an optical slot.

Just as an alternative product in the same vein I can recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/FlexSMART-Transmitter-Hands-Free-Blackberry-Smartphones/dp/B003PPGOC0 . I too had problems with FM transmitters in the past not being powerful enough and getting stepped on (I live between Baltimore-WashDC area and frequently drive through both) but have never had even the slightest problem with static or step-over with this one. It's also an easier price pill to swallow. The only problem I've ever had with it is the manual tuner dial can be a little flaky (doesn't register 1 out of every 5 notch-turns on average) but it's otherwise very solidly built with clear and powerful transmission, and has been a godsend in my older car that was built in that period before aux ports were standard but well after tape-decks.

Can't recommend it enough

Yeah, this is quite a bit smaller, I think. I own an older version of that - same brand, but is a receiver only - and I'm pretty happy with it.

u/Pargethor · 2 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

HEY! do some research, take the proper steps and it can be an excellent option. Investing about $30-$50 in a decent transmitter will do you a lot of good. I have had this one for at least a year now and haven't a single issue. There are a couple models that might be better, mine is kind of outdated. If possible, disconnect your radio antenna if you don't ever plan on listening to the radio (such is my case).

Find an obscure channel to broadcast on (the transmitter should find one good enough) and it should come through crystal clear. I have an outlet in my console that the transmitter is in, set to the channel, and my radio never changes stations, so I every time I get in my car my phone wirelessly connects to the transmitter and Spotify begins playing. Haven't listened to the radio in ages, and it's wonderful. I never touch the thing but it has some pretty cool call features too.

Edit. I live near Detroit and there are plenty of stations around that give me no problems.

No, its a closed system over Wifi, no analog inputs.

What is your current turntable? You can add a Bluetooth Transmitter to any turntable to stream to a single Echo speaker or a stereo system over Bluetooth. There is an adapter to transmit to 2 Bluetooth speakers however a set of 2 adapters for 4 speakers would be even more of a pairing mess.

However, a big part of vinyl is the analog sound and the Echo and especially the Dots are not very good speakers. You will be much better off with better pair of home audio bookshelf speakers and you can add a second set in another room. You can also hook up one of the Dots to the speakers to have better streaming audio sound.

Any of these systems can also be added to the Dots for better sound in other rooms.

Lowest budget $50 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair and Hi-Fi Mini Amplifier Bundle. Add a RCA switch $11 to add a Dot with the turntable and speakers.

Or powered Edifier R1280T bookshelf speakers $99.

Or a step up mini amp and speakers, $52 SMSL SA-36A Pro TPA3118D2DAP Stereo Amplifier 2 x 20W with $50 Dayton Audio B652-AIR 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker with AMT Tweeter Pair. Add speaker wire, and see 4 Ways to Strip Wire - wikiHow.

For the best sound quality for the buck, look for a used stereo or AV receiver and a pair of used bookshelf speakers.

If you're hell bent on Aux installs, and want to keep the factory look, consider an in-dash FM modulator (like this one).

The way I see it though, joshuamnr is right - you should ditch the whole Aux idea and go bluetooth, because the quality is way better, plus it's a nice upgrade. I know that BMW head units are complicated though, and fits are not easy. I had a pioneer AVH series in my Jetta and I loved it - quality was awesome, and the screen was easy to see in the sunlight.

I have the Air-Fi Venture and they are fantastic. A bit muddy, but EQed them to be much better. Battery life is amazing and I could go for 16-18 hours of music before needing to charge them. only downside is that they don't seal so well, they just sit on your ears without any pressure.

You could go for the higher class version of them, the Matrix which I don't have experience with.

Quick search found this video for adding an aux to the OEM head unit. With that aux you could then plug it in to something like the ROAV Smartcharge Kit F2 (got one for my partner a year ago), now you have 2 high speed charging ports, and Bluetooth/hands free. Best part is no interference and better sound quality then using generic Bluetooth to FM adapters

u/umdivx · 4 pointsr/hometheater

This is a several piece system you'd have to get.

First is an HDMI audio extractor then an BT transmitter and if you want to be able to switch between the Roku and the TV tuner you'd then need an HDMI switch.

At that point with all that in place, you honestly would be better off getting a receiver. You can get a cheap receiver, like the Denon S530BT from Accessories4less.com for $150 then pair that with some cheap speakers and you're already better than all that equipment above.

I have a solution that will not be broken by updates from Sony (as far as I can imagine)
An optical\TOSLINK audio to Bluetooth transmitter.

*Note that this is only to stream game audio to your Bluetooth headset and NOT for mic INPUT.

I bought a TosBlue-x from http://telme2.com/. They are based in Norway so shipping times will be a little long. It has 3.5mm and optical audio inputs, and outputs to Bluetooth with aptx for low latency audio.

I have not used it for the PS4, but have tested with other optical output devices and don’t see why it wouldn’t work for the PS4 since its taking audio from the toslink connector and has nothing to do with the PS4s ridiculous Bluetooth restrictions. I paired it with my Sony MDR-XT950BT without any issues. If I power off the transmitter, I've had to repair it every time I power it back on (minor inconvenience). (Will test with PS4 soon to curb any doubts)

Since then I've found a gadget on Amazon that achieves the same thing, but can transmit to two headset for less than the cost of the TosBlue-X.

MEE transmitter - I have not used this but in theroy, it should work, assuming your headset can pair to it and support its profiles.
http://www.amazon.com/MEE-audio-Universal-Headphone-Transmitter/dp/B016NIOOH2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452488023&sr=8-1&keywords=toslink+to+bluetooth

Best of all, you can source the optical audio (or 3.5mm if you must) out from your TV, so you can transmit all TV sounds to your headset instead of just the PS4!!

For mic input, just plug in the included headset and hang it on your neck or from your ear or something.

u/MarryDingoes · 1 pointr/headphones

I'm not sure if asking for advice about these devices is appropriate here in this subreddit. I'm mainly looking for a device that covers one ear and has a mic to call and maybe listen to podcasts when driving. Currently, I'm using the mic and earphone that came with my PS4.

I would love to have both a wired and wireless connection and, if at all possible, not required to have to charge (which I bet it rarely exists, if at all, for wireless). It can be a bluetooth device or whatever, but the only requirements are that it "cancels" noise the least amount as possible for safety when driving, one earphone, and a mic.

If it is possible, does an FM Transmitter like this one connecting to an audio-mic splitter and buying a mic work? I would be more at ease if I can use a mic that wraps around my head and use my car speakers to hear.

u/RedditUserBrian · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

It looks like the best way to get Bluetooth support may be a small AptX capable transmitter. I found this one on Amazon that people are using for the Nintendo Switch :

https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones-Simultaneously/dp/B01B4W40VC/

I guess you would have to attach the transmitter to the Quest but it looks like the audio lag would be 30-40ms (instead of 200+ms)

edit - You would obviously need AptX compatible Bluetooth headphones. I don't believe any of the Airpod models support this.

You’re looking for an IEM system. That stands for In-Ear Monitor system, and it’s what stage musicians are increasingly using instead of monitor speakers. You already have the headphones, so you just need the transmitter station (what you’ll plug into your TV), and the bodypack (the part you plug your headphones into that typically clips onto your belt). The problem is these systems are expensive. $300 to $500 is pretty normal.

I did a bit of looking though, and found a wireless guitar jack that can double as an IEM system too. Watch this video from about 4:45 on: https://youtu.be/uXTZNY5Ta-o Seems like this will only set you back about $60. It might be mono though, rather than stereo.

If you want to keep looking around, this is a pro option that I have a lot of experience with: https://www.amazon.com/Shure-P3TR112GR-Wireless-Personal-Earphones/dp/B00ODU9IJW/ There are tons of knock-offs and other things all over Amazon too for a lot less money. There’s no particular one I can recommend over the others though.

Edit: to answer your actual question though: this is a Bluetooth transmitter and receiver: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KXIKCSI/ You would have to buy two: one to receive and one to transmit. I honestly can’t recommend it though. The audio quality isn’t great, and the volume steps are too gross (you can’t turn it down quiet enough for my taste). Also, there will be noticeable audio delay, as others have mentioned.

So are these headphones aptX compatible if connecting them to a pc? I am pretty unfamiliar with Bluetooth Tech. Thanks for your great response too!

I would look for Kia Souls or Honda Fits. At your price point, those are the two likeliest candidates. Both can carry tons of stuff, decent mpg, and pretty reliable. Especially if you can drive a manual transmission, but their automatics are fine too.

You should be able to find something within under 75,000 miles at that price.

I think both have Bluetooth, but if they don't, just get a Bluetooth transmitter. This is the one I use (https://www.amazon.com/Nulaxy-Wireless-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Smartphones/dp/B018E0I01I) and it works better than the built in version in some of my friends' cars.

If you are in the US, and have the Onkyo A9010, like I, then you cannot plug the Chromecast 2 into your Onkyo as it does not have an HDMI input, so you will need to either:

  • Have some sort of output from your TV to your receiver and use the Chromecast/TV as a "bridge" of sorts. This will require you have the TV on when streaming music,
  • Use something like the splitter to which you linked on Amazon,
  • Go the Raspberry Pi mentioned below,
  • Get a Chromecast Audio,
  • Some alternative network streamer like this,
  • If your PC has Bluetooth, then a Bluetooth adapter like this.

There are probably other alternatives, but I don't know them.

I have a Chromecast Audio and love it. If you can find one, that's what I would do.

  • Maybe you have a tablet? A lot of people do. If not, an inexpensive tablet dedicated to private listen might be a simple solution.
  • Skip Private Listening and try a Bluetooth Transmitter Adapter and headphones instead? [Submitted as an example, not an endorsement. I have never used this product.] Plug this into the TV and the sound could/should be received via her phone's Bluetooth capability.

A drawback is Guest SSID functionality might not be as robust as your primary SSID's by design, depending on your router. But it is easy to set-up and start experimenting, though.

I am not sure how Streaming Stick+ helps you. Maybe you mean the Ultra that comes with a headphone jack in the remote?

If you're looking for one of those, I've been pleased with this. It auto-tunes to available frequencies really well. The one con for me is the end of the cigarette adapter plug is very fragile. Mine broke after about a month and they sent me new parts, but they are just as fragile. If you change vehicles often you have to be mindful of the end and make sure it doesn't come unscrewed. Still happy with it.

These may help -

(Cassette bluetooth reciever. May be a hassle since it has to be charged)

(Cassette Aux Cable receiver)

You could combine the second piece of hardware with what OP has.

Alternatively, bit more pricey but this is the best option all things considered.

GoGroove FlexSmart. Bluetooth connection to the reciever, and the dongle transmits via radio frequency to the car. You can even charge your phone!

u/Heatmonger · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

If you can stream from a smartphone with Bluetooth, some of the Bluetooth FM transmitters are actually quite good. There typically isn't all the noise and static, maybe due to the lack of a wired connection.

something like http://smile.amazon.com/GOgroove-FlexSMART-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Hands-Free/dp/B003PPGOC0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1415140781&sr=8-2&keywords=bluetooth+fm+transmitter

Make sure to download a sound equalizer app and adjust to your liking as well, it can make a world of difference.

u/call-me-neo · 1 pointr/CarAV

Three ways to do this, from merely okay to great...

  1. FM transmitter. Will probably work, but results can be hit or miss. If you live somewhere where there's a lot of radio stations, it can be difficult to find a frequency where there's no interference.
  2. FM modulator. Something like this will work: https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-FM-MOD01-Modulator-satellite-portable/dp/B0007THIDQ You'll also need antenna adapters since VW don't use the universal plug. I used something similar to get an iPod into an AM/FM radio for years. Much better than a FM transmitter since it's hard wired to the radio, and completely disconnects the antenna when it's in use do you don't get channel interference.
  3. Aux adapter. Much better, since it talks directly to the radio. Something like this: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_249BTSVW2/Crux-BTS-VW2-Bluetooth-Interface.html Some of these allow any radio or steering wheel control to work with a blue tooth device for track skip, etc.
u/H2iK · 3 pointsr/Android

I use this one with my Nexus One and it fits my needs just fine.
A few things about it though:
The bass leaves much to be desired (I assume this is universal with FM transmitters).
Very nice and easy bluetooth pairing.
After pairing I just turn on my car and it automatically connects.
It has a usb port that can be used for charging a phone (I haven't had the need to try it yet).

I would go with number two if it's anything like mine.
I kinda regret not seeing it when I was in the market for one.
I would probably have bought it.

I just set up my Tasker settings with it, in my car I have to manually turn it on/off because its an always on outlet (will drain my car's battery) but once I do that, it automatically starts up spotify, and starts playing, then boots up GoogleMaps and switches to driving mode.

Once I am a bit more advanced I plan to have it ask if I need directions to my next event, and automatically import my next calendar location and start navigation.

However, the nice part is that it still can take a cassette adapter and is handy not to need to plug the phone into anything for short trips. For long trips, I plug into a different charger (I have a power splitter).

u/jokerswild_ · 2 pointsr/iphone

it's been awesome. I discovered my car's powerpoint can be keyed or always-live (the powerpoint fuse is actually a jumper - move it over pins 1-2 to make it always-live and move it over pins 2-3 in the fusebox to make it hot when the key is turned and unpowered when the key is removed) -- this means I get in the car & turn on the key and bluetooth autoconnects to my phone. Turn off the car and it disconnects. I get a call & all I have to do is switch the radio to preset 1 (set to 88.1 - the frequency that worked best for me with the X2mini) and hit 'answer'. It's almost as good as a factory-installed system. Sound is crystal-clear with no interference or static.

There's also an X3 & X3 mini now, but they went with a different, more-square formfactor ( X3: www.amazon.com/FlexSMART-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Technology-Handsfree/dp/B00BMYQTYE -- X3 Mini: www.amazon.com/FlexSMART-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Technology-Handsfree/dp/B00EPQ0U2S) and the X2 shape worked better in my car.

There are a bunch of FM transmitters that are only a little bit bigger than a regular car charger, and have different higher powered USB ports on them that may work for you.

This one is from Anker, it doesn't have any specific quick charge standard, but it does have "intelligent" USB ports. Usually these do a good job of keeping things topped up.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GJ7DHMP

There are some other random ones with 2 USB ports and at least 1 of them is QC3.0:

https://www.amazon.com/Transmitter-Ainope-Wireless-Bluetooth-Compatible/dp/B07DMHMRV5/

https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-FM-Transmitter-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B07F2RTN5Z/

And this one, the FM transmitter controls are on a gooseneck thing, but the second non-QC3.0 USB port is 2.4A, if you care about such things.

Disclaimer: This will only work as a Bluetooth upgrade if your car already has aux or if you buy one of those aux to tape things this discussion is about. If your car doesn't already have any type of auxiliary it's not hopeless, there are these type of expansion boxes that can be plugged directly into a radio to add functionality.

Link u/klevenisms204 suggested: www.gromaudio.com

Essentially the FlexSMART has two types of inputs and two types of outputs. You can either input your audio to it via Bluetooth or aux in. There's also two types of outputs, the FM transmitter or aux out. Assuming you have some way to input audio to your car via wire, a device like this can be used to upgrade a car to have Bluetooth by doing this: Music device > Bluetooth > FlexSMART > aux cable > car radio.

Bonus on the one I linked above is it as a built-in microphone and buttons on it for answering and ending calls along with media controls if you are connected via Bluetooth. Keep in mind I bought this years ago so there is probably a updated version or a better model made by someone else by now, but I'm sharing my personal experience so people know they do have options other than paying $500-ish to replace the radio.

You could buy a separate Bluetooth audio transmitter (connected to your TV's audio out) which has support for pairing to two headsets simultaneously, such as one or two. If your headphones support AptX Low Latency, you may want to spend a bit more on something that supports dual pairing and LL at the same time like this one (most with LL can only enable it when a single headphone is paired).

I use this in my '06 Mazda 3. Plugs straight into the cigarette lighter so it loses power when that does. It then transmits to the car via FM radio. Sound quality is therefore FM radio-level; not audiophile quality but it serves well enough. Only issue is that on longer trips you might have to change the station it uses as you pass through an area where there is already something more powerful on your frequency. The frequency is settable so not a big deal.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KXIKCSI/ref=pd_aw_lpo_60_tr_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6F8KNSR7VGXKDB679ZMT

It's both a transmitter and receiver.

If you want a cheaper one that is only a receiver, this one will do.

Keep the radio as is and get one of these, much cheaper and easier solution.

I just got this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BMYQTYE/ref=redir_mdp_mobile (sorry for mobile) its amazing. If you're using your phone you can use Bluetooth for wireless music and hands free calling using you car speakers and a mic on the device. Plus all the controls for pause/play and next are on there.

GOgroove Flexsmart Hands down the best FM transmitter I've ever come across. Pro-tip... if you can do without AM/FM most of the time I'd suggest removing your antenna to make things work even better, if that's an option.

Inline FM modulator is the best if you keep the factory radio
something like this is what you'll want to look for

To confirm, you want to use Bluetooth headsets, right? Yes, it looks like it is that. There are also other products already out like this one.

Most simple solution: casette to 3.5mm adapter.

or

Just look it up, there are so many and they are so cheap. I use a different one in my car and it works wonders.

I combined mine with this: https://www.amazon.ca/SmartCharge-Bluetooth-Receiver-Transmitter-Charger/dp/B0719SNR5N

It has an aux in port, giving me bluetooth in my car.

Edit: Sometimes/most of the time, the solution has already been engineered for you. I see you put alot of work into the research, which will be handy in the future. However, I would say that you should spend more time researching potential or existing solutions.

I've got one of these, works great and is pretty cheap. I hid the little input/switch panel in the storage space under the radio.

I got the MEE audio Matrix2 Bluetooth Wireless headphones in March of this year, and have been quite happy with them at the gym. They charge using micro-USB, and last the couple of hours at full blast during my workout (they last longer, but I rarely need them for longer than that). I've used them both wired (no power necessary) and wireless using Bluetooth. They will even connect to both my computer and phone at the same time over Bluetooth. And the microphone isn't too bad for when I get a call as long as I'm able to speak normally.

Is it BIFL? Can't say for sure yet, but they are not too pricey, and if you don't mind over the ear headphones, they are a good buy.

This Bluetooth - FM transmitter has worked great for me (connects to phone via Bluetooth, sends to radio via FM transmitter): GOgroove-FlexSMART-Transmitter.

I'm not an audiophile and I have old speakers, but it sounds great to me. You can choose any FM station (not limited to pre-sets), and it also has a USB port so you can charge your phone.

This is my setup. It let's you power the bluetooth and charge your phone off the same cigarette lighter. Not making excuses for them, just sharing what works for me. One thing to note is that the charging can be pretty slow. With the screen on and navigation and playing a podcast it may not even be able to keep it from draining.

I use this FM transmitter. I know its a bit steep but I've gone through several FM transmitters and this is the best I've used to date.

Bluetooth radio transmitter $49
My mp3s are on my phone in my pocket. I get in my car and push play on the bluetooth transmitter, and the mp3s play from my phone to my car radio, all wireless.

For $199 you can get a mini cnc lathe

Not the exact one I had but it’s similar. Our 07 Prius was totaled by law enforcement. Our new is a 2014 5. I used the little Bluetooth adapter for 6 years in that car. Best car I’ve ever owned.

u/corn_of_action · 2 pointsr/CarAV

Check this out.

If you can figure out how to install this yourself, it actually disconnects your car's antenna and inserts its own signal, perfectly clear. It would be much cheaper than a new stereo.

u/rakesh11123 · 3 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

Yeah, in that case, you'd need a USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter. There are other options, you can see if your car supports bluetooth natively and if it doesn't, you can buy a bluetooth transmitter off Amazon for about 20 bucks (like this one) and have it to where your phone connects to the transmitter via bluetooth and the transmitter sends out whatever music you set to play on your phone via radio waves and you just tune your car's radio to that specific channel.

Here's what you're looking for:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IV1H1ME

It's switchable between transmitter and receiver, and one can transmit to the other. It's super easy, there's minimal latency, and you're looking at a total investment of $60.

u/cahwyguy · 2 pointsr/IpodClassic

What do you want to use bluetooth for? If it is to sync, you might be out of luck. If it is to transmit to speakers, try https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4W40VC . It connects to the 3.5mm port. I've used it quite successfully to broadcast from my iPod Classic to a car bluetooth.

u/Talkimas · 1 pointr/technology

I got this one from Amazon that works both ways for around the same price. Lets you connect a Bluetooth source to anything with only a 3.5mm plug or lets you use Bluetooth headphones/speakers on anything with only 3.5mm out. Just turn it off, flip a switch, and turn it back on to change modes. Charges with micro-USB and a think a 12ish hour battery life, but i keep mine plugged in all the time. Main reason I got it is to use my Bluetooth headphones on my work computer, but works pretty well hooked up to my TV so as to not wake people up when I use my Xbox (already have a PS4 headset and couldn't justify buying an Xbox one too).
