Yes, Paleo is absolutely right for you.

I'm also 21, also very underweight (weighing just 46kg), and living with an autoimmune disease. I've suffered anxiety most of my life, and think I can offer you some really useful tips.

Eliminating gluten 100% has done a lot for me (but was incredibly difficult at first), in fact I've eliminated a ridiculous amount of stuff due to my illness, I now avoid all nightshades, refined sugars, gluten, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds, and high starch vegetables (I suffer from a leaky gut and have to follow the Paleo autoimmune-protocol).

An important question to ask yourself is, why are you underweight in the first place? I didn't used to be underweight, but as my gut health deteriorated, I developed food malabsorption, gut dysbiosis, and bacterial overgrowths, meaning I could barely tolerate any sugar, even from fruit, but especially not carbs. Being underweight - this was a big problem, I lost about 10kg, and I'm only just starting to recover and make sense of it all. It sounds like you're in a VERY similar situation to me, so perhaps we can help each-other out.

The most important thing is to accept that you're ill, and that things will only get worse unless you take action. However, no matter how hopeless you feel, just remember that by understanding the science behind your illness, you have the power to get better.

I strongly reccommend you buy this book: LINK

If you haven't yet been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or leaky gut, chances are you are at high risk of developing one or the other. What you will find, is that by following some version of the Paleo diet, you will give your body everything it needs to recover back to it's natural state. Your gut is possibly the most important aspect of your health, once your gut is damaged, you don't digest food properly, and toxins are able to enter your blood stream, causing an immune response, leading to problems like allergies and a weakened immune system. This all has an affect on your hormone levels, and that is a very likely cause of your weight loss. I myself tested low for Testosterone levels.

Here are some quick tips:

  • Increase your protein intake (I have nearly 100g protein daily), don't worry about the myths of excess protein being harmful, as long as you get your protein from healthy sources such as Salmon, Grass fed Beef, Shellfish, Poultry, Insects, ect, you will be fine. If you plan on following a low-sugar, low-carb Paleo diet (which I highly recommend), increasing your protein intake is a must, otherwise you simply wont be getting enough calories necessary to gain weight.

  • Increasing your protein intake might cause you constipation at first, especially if you aren't digesting food properly, if this happens, there are several things I found which help. First, buy yourself some digestive enzymes, I recommend this brand LINK. Other things which help are stomach acid supplements LINK, and Ox-Bile LINK. I cannot stress how important it is that you properly digest your food, there's no point in eating if you aren't capable of digesting it. Always keep things moving, having a bowel movement at least every 1-2 days is important, so if constipation is an issue, don't be afraid to take supplements like magnesium 1-2 times a day LINK, or Glycerin suppositories. Also, it's important to have some vegetables with every meal, if you can tolerate starchy vegetables - great, if not, try and include plenty of food like broccoli & salad.

  • Increase the amount of fat in your diet. Try and ensure you maintain a healthy omega-3 to omega-6 fat ratio, this can be done by avoiding grain-fed meat, always choose grass-fed meat when possible. Try and eat a portion of grass fed beef every day, this will help with gaining weight. Salmon is also very high in protein, as well as omega-3 fats. Don't be afraid to drizzle oils over your food, I personally like Garlic infused olive oil, avocado oil, flax-seed oil, walnut oil, macadamia oil, etc..

  • Variety is important! Going on a restrictive diet can be really really stressful, especially when modern-day society shoves all these irresistible hyper-palatable foods in your face every minute of every day. It's super important to make sure that you ENJOY your food, otherwise you will be a slave to temptation. Plus, when you enjoy your food, you feel better, and you digest better. At first, going Paleo felt horribly restrictive to me, but after a while, I realised it has actually opened me up to a whole new world of wonderful foods. Eat like a king, enjoy the full variety that nature has to offer, here are some of the things I've learned to love since following the Paleo approach: King Prawns, Razor Clams, Frog legs, Octopus, Kangaroo, Offal (heart, liver, kidney, tongue, tail), Sardines, Sea Bass, Trout, Swordfish, Cod Roes, Crab, Lobster, Insects (dehydrated Crickets, Super-worms, Silk worms, Meal-worm), I could go on. Many of these things sound gross at first, but trust me - it's all completely natural, and tastes delicious!

  • Although adopting a low sugar diet is important, it's also important to consume some sugar/carbs with each meal, in order for your body to produce insulin for storing that energy as fat. Having some ripe banana or pineapple with each meal is best.

  • Space out your meals. Allow yourself to feel hungry before each meal, this will make you enjoy your meals more, and help with hormone regulation.

  • Focus on sleeping more. I always leave myself at least 10 hours, in case I have a bad night. Sleep is when your body recovers and grows, even if you have the perfect diet, gaining weight will be impossible without adequate sleep.

  • Go for walks in nature. Nature is a wonderful way to clear your mind and bring you back to your roots, it's wonderfully calming and healthy, it will do wonders for your anxiety. Listen to some calm music during your walks and try to meditate and allow yourself to absorb into your surroundings. Use this time to connect with yourself and make important life decisions. Walking also stimulates the digestive system, relieves stress, anxiety, and regulates your hormones. Try and go for at least one 30 minute walk per day, or two if possible.

  • Try and connect with someone. I started seeing a nutritional therapist, and she did wonders for my self-esteem and is still helping me get my life back on track. Feel free to message me any time if you have or questions, or simply want to chat. :)

Hope this helps, best of luck! Enjoy the journey to good health!

Edit: Oh, and I recommend taking L-Glutamine every day, it will help you gain weight, and it's extremely good for healing your gut. Also, home-made bone broth will do wonders for health, I can't recommend it enough.

doing real cooking when you have the time is great, but for me there are some staples that i keep around so I always have something quick and easy to make and stay on target.

  1. bacon and eggs, anytime, not just breakfast. cook the bacon on a cookie sheet (on some foil for easy clean up). no pre-heat, stick in the oven, turn to 350 and set a timer. Depending on your oven, 20-30min perfect bacon every time.

  2. ground beef. buy in bulk and save some money at the store (5lbs packages). get some "tupperware" and cook all the ground beef and sort it into containers with about half a pound in each. pull these out of the fridge, add any low carb sauce, microwave, and you are good to go. My favorites are Taco Sauce, and sun dried tomato alfredo. I also usually make a pound or 2 worth of actual taco meat (with the taco seasoning) to have shell-less tacos (in a bowl).

  3. block of good cheese, beef sticks, pickles. Find some keto friendly "snacky" type foods. These will save you if a craving really takes hold.

  4. Sugar Free Redbull, La Croix flavored sparkling water, Powerade Zero, Coffee. If you are typical american, Soda will be the hardest thing to avoid; find something keto friendly that you can replace it with if water is not going to satisfy your thirst. Diet Soda if you have to, but better to avoid those as well.

Make the effort at least once a week to try a new keto recipe. Their are a lot of them. Remember this is more of a lifestyle choice and not a diet. Also, don't beat yourself up to bad if you give into carbs once and awhile, having a slice of cake at a friends birthday party isn't going to hurt unless you are going to birthday parties every other day. Make sure you recognize what you are doing, and that it is a special occasion or reason. Then just Keep Calm and Keto on!

Furthermore, since you are only 18, your body is likely still growing and will need carbs for that. You will likely be able to get away with cheating easier than those of us pushing 40.

Each person is different, reading up, educating yourself, and figuring out what works best for your is of paramount importance.

> PHYSICAL: I quit taking ADHD meds about a week ago. I decided to stop taking the meds because I've struggled with fatigue, and I think it could be related to my testosterone levels. I do have 3 small kids (all under age 5) and I work a lot, so I expect to be tired, but I have struggled with fatigue for some time. I want to rule out low T as a cause, and I read a bunch of articles that indicate that ADHD meds decrease testosterone levels

>I've been taking them for close to a decade, so withdrawal hasn't been particularly easy.

Well, most ADHD meds are basically legal speed, so of course you're going to experience a period of withdrawals. I'm surprised you quit all at once - most people taper down before coming off, but as long as you're off them now that's what's important. It may take 4-6 weeks for your body to adjust to being without them. But this is a very good thing as long as you can function without them.

>The good news: it might be unrelated, but my strength numbers are going back up.

>The bad news: those meds suppress your appetite, and I've gained some weight since I stopped taking them. Up to 186 now (from 182 just two weeks ago).

You don't state your body fat %, but if I were you, considering all the changes you're making right now I would just go with it and bulk for at least the next 2 months. That would allow for some weight gain and would help you continue to make gainzz.

>Another factor is that I've stopped doing intermittent fasting, again based on an article linking IF to decreased testosterone levels

I disagree with this. Here's just one article showing the exact opposite, plus IF has a whole host of other benefits as well that go far beyond testosterone and weight loss. I've been doing IF since 2013 with an occasional break, and my testosterone levels are midrange naturally.

>I ordered some running shoes. I'm going to try and mitigate the damage through increased cardio (but not too much cardio, because I think there's another article about that, haha).

You can't outrun a bad diet, but cardio in limited amounts is good so this is a good idea. I would shoot for no more than 5 miles at a time, no more than 3X a week to limit the effect on your muscle-building efforts.

>MENTAL: Dealing with some brain fog and trouble focusing related to the medication withdrawal, but it's getting better.

Try a huperzine-A supplement, I've found it to be really helpful.

>Got a comfort test this morning that I just kind of dodged. This morning my wife was talking about my new haircut (more stylish than my normal very short haircuts). She said that she's more attracted to me now than she's ever been (thanks Red Pill folks). But she also said that she doesn't initiate sex as often as she did when we were first married because she doesn't feel as sexy herself. When she told me that, I was getting ready to leave for work, so I just sort of dodged the issue, but I need to think more about this.

This was a total fail. She wanted you to initiate and reassure her that she's still desirable in your eyes. By dodging it, you just reinforced her lack of desirability. If this happens again (and it will), just drag her to the bedroom and take her to Poundtown for a nice quickie. Leave her gasping for breath, then get dressed, kiss her on the cheek and leave.

Show her she's desirable, and she will make the effort to become more desirable as you continue to make improvements.

>Current with my Bible reading plan.

Awesome!

>I am praying that God will help me like church more, because I just don't get much out of it. Theoretically, I think the Church (universal) is the greatest force for good in the world. Practically, I never want to go and am always glad to leave. I don't think our current church is the problem - it's pretty good, and I've felt this way since I was a kid. I always thought I would grow out of it at some point. Anyway, I'd appreciate prayer on that topic.

I will pray for sure. But here's something to think about: you're not getting much out of it, but what are you putting into it? Too often we go to church to get fed, but never do anything to feed others. Most pastors would give anything for members to step up and say "What needs to be done? I'm here to help." The more you contribute, the more investment in your spiritual community you will have, and the more you will enjoy being there.

Doctor's Best multivitamin

It has the best form of everything (no synthetics) at a reasonable price, but you might need to limit methyl b12's depending on your VDR taq status. Check this out for more: http://methyl-nation.com/comt-vdr-taq-the-mutation-series/.

Taking one of these multis a day (says to take 3) hasn't given me any overmethylating symptoms so far. Each capsule has way more of everything compared to your average multi, so 1 should be good to shore up an otherwise healthy diet avoiding folic acid wherever you can.

Here's another idea I've been toying with and might try myself, in case you can't tolerate any methyl b12: make your own "multi" stack with minerals and a b complex, adding L-methylfolate (only need half of these) and hydroxy/adenenosyl b12 seperately if you want those. This leaves A/C/D/E/K which I believe can be pretty much covered in a healthy diet and supplemented cheaply (D+C). If you have GSTP1 mutation, you should be avoiding supplemental E.

That B complex has the best forms of the other B's and leaves out Folic Acid and B12 for us. There's another, cheaper brand on amazon without Folic Acid but it has cyano b12. I'm not sure why cyano b12 is so bad to be honest - everything I read on the net about it is kind of vague/woo-woo, but I'm erring on the side of caution anyway (at a cost to the wallet!). Perhaps you can enlighten me?

Hope this was helpful, good luck.

edit: found this on knowyourgenetics.com

>Cyano B12 contains a cyanide molecule. So when you take cyano B12 your body must first turn
it into hydroxy B12 in order to use it, and then must find a way to get rid of the toxic cyanide
molecule. We all know cyanide is a poison even if the rest of the B12 molecule is good for you.
The body actually uses hydroxy B12 in order to detoxify cyanide. So, not only is cyano B12 not
the form your body ultimately needs, but taking higher doses of cyano B12 may actually deplete
your hydroxy B12. So why would anyone use cyano B12 if it can be toxic? Well, in low doses it
may be helpful for the eyes, but for the most part cyano B12 is used because it is much less
expensive, and a form of B12 that is easier to keep stable.

Alright so honestly it sounds like as long as you get hydroxy, a little bit of cyano isn't a big deal (cyanide fears are majorly overblown reportedly). With that said I'm going to probably go with this B complex that's a much better value & low in cyano b12.

Excellent! I think problems are good to talk about in order to help people move past their barriers. I was a very picky eater growing up, but fortunately my taste buds changed around my early 20's & more foods magically started tasting better. In your case, it would be worth seeing why you have those aversions & then develop a technique for working around them so that you can enjoy more great foods!

There's nothing wrong with eating similar stuff all the time. Read up on macros in my link above, and then watch this documentary:

Obviously, it's best to eat real food, but you can survive just fine on fast food. I eat Burger King Whoppers all the time! Over a third of Americans eat out at fast food places every single day. You have to start with what works for you & then grow from there, instead of just feeling guilty about it. And there are ways to sneak in healthy stuff into your food & still have it taste good, such as putting sweet potatoes in brownies:

So basically, it's not monolithic - there are lots of different approach angles & nooks & crannies to climbing this mountain. The first step is deciding to work on it, which you've already done, so congrats there, and the second step is putting together a game-plan to helping yourself get to where you want to be! This might include:

  • Talking to a therapist about the root cause of your food aversions
  • Developing a technique for eating foods you don't care for & new foods
  • Finding ways to sneak fruits & vegetables into your diet
  • Trying out a meal-replacement drink like Soylent
  • Learning about macros so that you at least know how much to feed yourself for weight-gain
  • Building up a recipe notebook of foods that you actually enjoy eating, so that you can create some variety & have some options to choose from when it comes time to do meal-prep
  • Include a multi-vitamin in your diet, or perhaps add an unflavored vitamin & mineral powder (sticker shock on that one, but costs about a buck a dose) into your food or drink every day

There are ways to cope & manage & overcome pretty much any problem out there, if you're willing to try, and since you've hit the point where you're willing to try, there's plenty of stuff to work on! If you're interested in trying out macros, then report back with the following:

  • Current weight
  • Target weight (how much weight you want to gain)
  • Calories & macro numbers from the IIFYM calculator (note that it requires an email & they'll send you marketing emails, so use a dummy address if you have one!)
u/Shiftgood · 12 pointsr/HumanMicrobiome

Your biome is mostly influenced by what you eat. Its hard, but if you can give a low carb/ketogenic style diet a try, you should. There are a few variations but if you ate under 40g of carbs a day, and got them entirely from plants, that would be a great start. The hard part is that it takes about 30 days for your body to adapt to the new fuel so you have to toughen up and commit. Also be warned you may have a large die off of sugar craving bacteria within the first 2 weeks that may give you a rash or moodiness... its a good thing to get through it.. you can take charcoal pills if you want to help clear the dead bacteria.

Probiotics can help you transition, but you probably don't need them after a month or two. Probiotics are transient, your diet is what makes enduring changes to your biome and health.

Especially focus on getting lots of spinach, kale, chard mix in there as you are MTHFR. That is a great source of methylated B vitamins, especially methlyfolate which is what you need. Consider supplementing with glutathione as well to help the cycle. You're not producing SAMe which helps you control histamine, and that lack of production could be whats is giving you symptoms.

Also - if anything you're taking has Folate (not Methlyated) then get rid of it.. You don't want that sitting around in your body blocking the SAMe production.

Since you like supps. Here are some that may help.. but really its the plant heavy ketogenic diet thats going to turn this around for you.

Methylated B vitamins

Glutathione

Turmeric Circumin

On top of this, sleep at least 8 hours a night and make sure you're in bed by 10. During the day you need to break a sweat with some exercise. Both of these things have a dramatic effect on your microbiome. Failing to sleep well and exercise can cut your progress in half.

Go over to r/keto, its a great resource if you're serious about this. There are many people over there just like you seeing good results. And remember to get high quality, grass fed meats and fats!

Good luck!

Personally I would take the natural route to try to learn lucid dreaming that is, without buying things, however if you insist I think I can help.

Free

Dreamviews - Is a great place to learn about Lucid Dreaming, with tutorials, help from members, etc.

Giz Edwards - Giz posts a lot about lucid dreaming, and caters to beginners.

Binaural Beats for inducing Lucid dreams - Binaural Beats are the process of playing two brainwave frequencies in each ear in order to alter consciousness, headphones are required.

World Of Lucid Dreaming - This site helped me a lot when I was a beginner, it is quite easy to understand, and helpful.

Courses that cost money

Lucidology - Lucidology is a course that costs money, but seems to be rather effective.

Actual Supplements

Lucid Dreaming Pills - Lastly, if you are looking for some pills to take, these are said to have good effects.

Aromatherapy for Lucid Dreams - This is said to induce lucid dreams using aromatherapy.

Dream Herb This is the infamous Calea-Zacatechichi, the dream herb.

I hope this helps! And the best of luck to you.

I love this chickpea curry , hot for food's chop salad , one pan Mexican quinoa.

I love morning bagels with avocado, sriracha, and nutritional yeast (get that b12!).
Obviously wraps/burritos are very easy as well as soups.

Meal preps with quinoa, veggies, fruits, etc sounds like it'd be good since you're probably going to high school.

You may want to look into B12 or Omega 3s supplements. It depends on your diet. I take the Deva Tiny Tablet just to make sure I get anything i perhaps did not (but it acts as help, not my main source).

Hot For Food, Oh She Glows, and It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken are usually my favorite sites. I do like Pinterest and I have an entire board of categorized foods.

Definitely make some for you family and show them how good vegan food can be!

u/Sektor7g · 6 pointsr/AskReddit

Sounds like dysthymia. I've been in the same situation.

If you are in a position to be able to see a professional, it would be a good idea to do so. If that's not an option for you right now, here are a few things that have helped me:

    1. 400 mg of SAM-e taken daily on an empty stomach. Wikipedia
    1. Increase sun exposure, by artificial means if necessary. Vitamin D levels have a huge impact on your mental (and physical) health, and our ability to absorb D through the digestive system is poor.
    1. If you are low on D, an oral supplement might be a good idea, in addition to the sun exposure. As stated, digestive absorption is poor, but it does help a little. Use D3, not D2 (if a D supplement doesn't specify, that means it's the cheaper to produce D2). D2 is the form used by plants, but vertebrates use and produce D3.
    1. Use a krill oil and/or flax seed oil supplement. Both are a good source of Omega-3, which also has an impact on brain health.
    1. Get adequate sleep.
    1. Raise your heart rate, i.e. exercise. 3-4 times a week. It doesn't have to be strenuous, just enough to get your heart going.

There are several more things that might help, but the above is a good place to start.

The way we make change with veganism is by taking our money away from people who exploit animals and by raising awareness, so if I have an accident, and if fixing it wouldn't take back the money or improve people's regard for veganism, I just forgive myself and let it go. If I dispose of the non-vegan thing instead of consuming it, it's mostly just because I feel icky about it.

I recently went vegan after being vegetarian for a few years. It was hard at first to think of what to eat, but the breakthrough that made me feel better about it was reminding myself that I can still eat whatever I'm craving in some form or another. I try to imagine exactly what I would want for dinner if I weren't even vegetarian/vegan and then I google "easy vegan ___." This has led to some great things like vegan eggs benedict (yum). You're working to help animals, so you've got to make it fun and treat yourself.

I also take a vegan multivitamin and B12 supplement so that I can eat whatever I feel like without worrying so much about whether I'm killing myself.

Good call, I'll have to run more tests.

From what I've been reading
>Folic acid needs to be avoided more seriously by homozygous individuals

>Limit ingestion of folic acid in fortified foods as you cannot process folic acid well.

>Limit or cease taking supplements or drugs with folic acid in them. Talk with your doctor before stopping.

I would want to instead look into 5-MTHF / methyl-b12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBUCeulUoe0. I was looking at taking a methyl-guard supplement once a day. (I threw the idea past a few nutritionists who thought maybe 1 a day wouldn't be bad.) Ideally, I'd like to get this testing done -- http://www.holisticheal.com/health-tests/nutrigenomic-testing, but, I don't really have the funds right now (I can barely afford Paleo food, haha.) Just trying to make sure I'm reading this raw data correctly.

(I don't have insurance or a primary.. or sweet geneticist cash. I do have 40 bucks for some methyl-guard that comes right out of the grass-fed meat fund, lol.)

I've been getting frequent migraines and was reading that extra folic acid / b vitamins were possibly able to help with that. In looking to eat more, I noticed this possibly reduced enzymatic activity that would change the ideal form of supplements for my chemistry.

In reading a little more, I might play it safe and just supplement with this -- http://www.amazon.com/L-5-MTHF-Sublingual-Metafolin-Methylcobalamin-Methylfolate/dp/B00822JNTC Tricky.

Edit: Did more testing. Better get to a geneticist.

Magnesium Threonate theoretically crosses the blood-brain barrier easier. I personally find it to be less sedating or calming than the Magnesium Citrate I take at night. It is pricier, but the research so far shows promising results. Also, my doc recommended it!

According to this study from the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease: "In an intact rodent, treatment with conventional magnesium salts is ineffective at elevating brain magnesium and improving memory function. This is because active transport systems tightly control the amount of magnesium that crosses first from digestive tract into blood, and then from blood to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). In human, increasing blood magnesium by up to 300% only changes CSF magnesium by less than 19%. To overcome this problem, we developed L-Threonic acid Magnesium salt (L-TAMS, formerly MgT), a compound that can effectively enhance CSF magnesium concentration via oral intake."

Also from the same study: "Supplementation with magnesium threonate may improve cognitive function in older individuals with memory and concentration issues, say results of a randomized, controlled, double-blind study."

God I hate doctors. especially endos. I strongly suggest you join the Stop the Thyroid Madness community and find a "good doctor" that way. endocrinologists are typically the worst choice for thyroid treatment. I know that sounds crazy but they're hideously miseducated and biased. you will rarely get what you need from them. I can guarantee your anxiety isn't psychological. it's physical. don't accept that crap. you are absolutely right to be questioning your symptoms changing with your labs.

I think you should reach out to some of these patient resources for advice. talk to Janie Bowthorpe who wrote the Stop the Thyroid Madness books or email the yahoo group or talk to the mods in the Adrenal Fatigue and Thyroid Care facebook group. https://stopthethyroidmadness.com/talk-to-others/

if you have elevated antibodies I'm pretty sure that means you have Hashimoto's. especially if you are positive on both of them. I would get some Kavinace for the time being so you're not overwhelmed by anxiety and go ahead and reach out to the patient community and get that saliva cortisol test so you can address any cortisol issues because that will interfere with thyroid function and cause a lot of insomnia etc. and you need a FULL thyroid panel with T3, T4, RT3 etc and probably a full iron panel too https://stopthethyroidmadness.com/lab-values/

you can order your own labs if you need to! just search any question followed by "sttm" to find it on their website. so like "insomnia sttm" "anxiety sttm" "hair loss sttm" etc.

I hope you get some answers and improvement soon! I know how frustrating it is! I went undiagnosed for 17 YEARS!! it's horrible! we deserve better!

I do not take any tryptophan from Asia because of past issues with quality that ended up being very dangerous. I use NOW Foods Tryptiphan which is pharmaceutical grade and made in the USA. https://www.amazon.com/NOW-L-Tryptophan-1000-60-Tablets/dp/B002JNIAQW

there is also a 500mg capsule. but I take 1000mg a day so that's what I use.

I use Kavinace from ovitaminpro.com but it looks like phenibut in general is becoming an issue to acquire so when I find out what's up with that I'll let you know. you may need a prescription to get it or something. it's becoming harder to get since it has become more popular. and like I said try CBD because if you have Hashimoto's that means inflammation and CBD helps that as well as anxiety.

I wish I didn't have to do all this stuff just to function. it sucks. but I'm thankful for anything that helps.

My physician suggested the herb "Butterbur" for me, but I was unable to afford a trial of it (I'm on an extremely limited income). I understand it has a few good studies behind its use, and he was confident in the recommendation. (We ended up going with the prescription medication Gabapentin instead, and it's worked wonders for me.)

I realize you said your family took her to one doctor, but that's never the end-all, be-all! Get a second opinion, if you can! There are dozens of medications that can be prescribed to prevent migraine.

Also, see if you can help her keep a food diary - that's where she writes down what she eats each day, and you refer to it when she gets a migraine (and write that down, too), to try to make an association. Sometimes there isn't one - and sometimes there are more than one food triggers.

Walking out into bright light, first thing, is one of my triggers - sunlight can easily set me off. Loud sounds, too. Being suddenly startled can trigger them for me. Movie theaters have a 100% success rate of triggering a migraine in me (but are sometimes worth it).

u/Acid_Affairs · 2 pointsr/Supplements

From what I can tell the supplements don't seem that bad. However, at least for the animal m-stack and gnc beyond raw re-forge they contain a lot of ingredients which can mess up with calculated desired results when taken together.

Are you taking a high-quality multivitamin? The only supplement your taking that is providing any essential nutritional value is that gnc beyond raw re-forge. From these supplements alone you are still lacking essential minerals like calcium. And even if you do take a good multivitamin you will still lack the recommended dietary allowance of calcium, magnesium, or even iron if you are not eating enough meat. It depends on your diet and what kinds of food you eat. If you want to supplement I'd suggest Calcium Citrate/Malatate, and Magnesium Glycinate. If you want these nutrients from food instead I'd suggest Greek Yogurt.

I would add some more supplements to complete the stacks:

Early morning and/or late afternoon stack:

the animal-mstack: one pak every day for 21 consecutive days and 7 day rest. So, three weeks on, one week off.

+
usplabs compound 20: 2 capsules with breakfast and 2 capsules 6-8 hours later with meal or snack. For best results, take one of the doses 30-60 minutes prior to workout.

+
gnc multivitamin sport or source naturals life force multiple

When building muscle it is very important for your body to rest so that muscle tissue and other parts can repair and build upon itself. The most rest you get the whole day is when you sleep. The more high-quality sleep you get the more effectively your body can repair itself and grow (e.g. growth hormone secretion).

Before bed time stack:

gnc beyond raw re-forge: one pack prior to bedtime

+
source natural theanine serene with relora

+
source natural calcium citrate/malatate

  1. Vitamin C serum.

The classic one is Skinceuticals CE Ferulic but there are cheaper versions around that give you nearly all the benefits that Skinceuticals has (Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C Plus E Ferulic Acid Serum or Cosmetics Solutions CE Ferulic Combination Treatment are more affordable options). Other ingredients to look for is niacinamide, green tea, resveratrol, hyaluronic acid -- you need to make sure your skin is well hydrated and has ingredients that fight off free radical damage.

    https://www.amazon.com/Timeless-Skin-Vitamin-Ferulic-Serum/dp/B0036BI56G

  2. Heliocare.

There is also a supplement called Heliocare that has Polypodium leucotomos fern in it that has been shown to protect your skin from the free radical damage that you get from sun exposure (you still need to wear sunscreen though).

    https://www.amazon.com/Heliocare-Oral-Capsules-60-capsules/dp/B001E25USU

  3. UV film on your car.

It sounds like you spend a lot of time outdoors and I'm not sure how much of that is spent driving but just in case you do drive quite a bit, it might be worth getting UV film on the drivers side window and on the windshield. I got mine done at a local shop that does tinting for cars.

Focusing on your health should be the first priority. Optimizing your normal hormone levels through the lessening of phytoestrogens, estrogen-mimics, and gluten(contains natural estrogens and lowers metabolism. I would eat more meat and take a multi-vitamin.

This will work fine and that is what I take. Vitamin E is a natural aromatase inhibitor and I take about 2000iu mixed tocopherols per day. Big boost in erectile quality and testosterone production. Zinc helps too as a T booster and an aromatase inhibitor.

Check this website to help with boosting testosterone. www.anabolicmen.com

If you are hell-bent on the PCT and pro-hormone, keep in mind that exogenous hormones can interfere with your natural production and as testosterone increases, so does estrogen through the aromatase enzyme. An aromatase inhibitor is almost always necessary when thinking about raising testosterone.

I feel like I should clarify. I think that talking to your Dr. about your anxiety is a great idea. There are some decent medication options that could help both your anxiety and your migraines. So it would be a good conversation to have.

My point above is that you should state that you are NOT interested in taking any benzos. But be open to other options. My rule is that I always do research on a medication before I start taking it. And I always start by googling [MedicationName Withdrawal] and see what comes up. Some Drs are all to quick to prescribe stuff without giving any thought to the fact that getting off of the medication is going to be painful.

Ok that said, here's my recommendation for some non-prescription stuff you can investigate to reduce your anxiety.

  • Magnesium. This can be very calming.
  • L-Theanine
  • 5-HTP This may increase your levels of Serotonin. This can possibly make your migraines better or worse. Differs by the individual.
  • Kava
  • Valerian Root
  • GABA I've heard that "PharmaGABA" is much more likely to be effective that plain old GABA. Do some research. I don't really know.
  • The All-In-One There are a number of these formulations. They just combine a bunch of stuff listed above.

So there's some stuff you should do some research on. Some may relieve your anxiety but make your migraines worse. Some may be beneficial for both anxiety and migraines. It'll really be a trial and error to find out what works for your 'migraine brain'.

I've provided Amazon links, but you can honestly get most of these at your local Drug Store (CVS, Walgreens, etc.)

Remember always do your research, whether its a recommendation from your Dr, or some internet stranger. It's all just data points. Digest it, research it, and then make your own decision on what's right for your situation. I wish you the best!!
u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/xxketo

Okay, good point, I drink bulletproof coffee and I eat twice a day so it's not six hours for me. You could try just not drinking with meals or drinking less, sometimes I sip a little water with meals I'm just very careful.

Yes, I chug water constantly the rest of the day, which can be hassle. I have a job where bathroom access is not easy so it works for me, I work, eat, then drink. You could just try not drinking with a meal for a few meals and see if it helps, if not, then it doesn't.

I have LPR. Betaine is an acid supplement derived from beets.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Higher-Nature-Betaine-Capsules-Pack/dp/B000UPFYYC

Also, please note I had some other advice that wasn't as extreme, acid really helps keep the food from coming up my throat as does taking a probiotic as my food is digested more efficiently. I'd suggest a small green salad with a vinegar dressing and just see if you feel better, with my rebound reflux it was one of the only things I could eat without misery -- vegetables in oil and vinegar. Fits keto, so it can't hurt.

My LPR was severe to the point it caused massive damage to my teeth and it still flares up especially if I eat white rice (have you noticed that?) it's gross but it actually feels like there's rice stuck in my throat or donuts, which now make my throat feel like I swallowed battery acid. Of course that's now a good way to keep me from eating them.

Especially since PPIS reduce your acid production I really recommend adding some to your diet.

I would recommend a pill called Heliocare in conjunction with sunscreen. If you can afford it, it's an oral, herbal supplement you take two of a few hours before going out in the sun. I was really skeptical at first, but eventually I started using just it, no sunscreen, and it kept me from even tanning. If you use both in conjunction(I recommend zinc sunscreen btw, the woolies brand is good if you're in Australia) you should be pretty darn well protected. Of course, a swim shirt is always an option if your ok not going shirtless.

I really fell in love with the multi from Doctors Best. They use really good ingredients like methylfolate as their folate source, and methylcobalamin as their B12 source. It's basic and good quality.

Now a regular dose is 3 caps, however I do believe you can just limit it to one or two caps per day (I myself take one cap for breakfast and one cap for dinner for example).

Most multis are like this. You can usually get away with just taking half the dose, which saves your money, and should be more than enough to cover your bases.

I think lithium can also cause hand tremors in addition to it's potential toxicity.

If the price is the same you can try Now brand eve. The drs best looks like the better one of the two you posted. I don't know much about vitamins except you want the methyl version of B12, you don't want iron in a supplement, magnesium and zinc compete but they are almost always thrown in together. Despite the serving size saying 3 I think 1 a day should work. I take 1 every other day but my serving size is 2 capsules per serving. The prices on amazon are also wacky and range from reasonable to very high for the same product.

If you're interested, you can buy L-theanine and chamomile supplements in pill form for pretty cheap.

In this drink they are in very low dose (258mg total for all 3 combined it seems) and of course combined with sucrose (sugar) and sucralose (artificial sweetener)

I wonder if you could find the ratio of the Ltheanine and Chamomile then you could match it with supplements and save a whole ton of money and have them on hand for whenever you need, also avoiding the sugar and artificial sweetener.

Glad to see youve found some relief

So I've substituted the Kirkland vitamins for this (https://www.amazon.com/All-One-Multiple-Vitamins-2-2-Pound/dp/B000GAP9FK) which is a bit more expensive but the nutrition is roughly the same, except that it has more calcium, D3, and iodine. So I remedied that by taking out the calcium/mag/d3 supplement and adding just a magnesium citrate powder to match the original amount. Etc. Etc. I made sure that I still had sufficient amounts of everything. Another thing with the vitamin is that it has 900% more daily value (of various vitamins) than Kirkland.

/u/chrisbair, can you tell me if I could "overdose"? This vitamin is meant to be used daily but I'm not sure how it works with ketosis. There's certainly nothing missing, I just have an overload of other stuff.

u/vandaalen · 1 pointr/asktrp

Also have a look at l-tryptophan. It's just an amino-acid, which is for instance found in bananas and helps your body to produce serotonine and melatonine, depending on the time of application and what are you doing then.

If you take them in the morning, or before doing sports/taking a walk, your body will produce serotonine, resulting in a better mood and being more balanced.

Taking 2000-3000mg right before laying in bed, will make you go dizzy and then go to a really nice and deep sleep. Unlike other sleeping pills, it will not affect your sleep cycle at all and you will really be well rested.

You want to play with the dosis a little bit to find out, what you need. You might as well start with 1000mg and just raise it step by step, until it fits.

The dizzy feeling can be a little bit uncomfortable in the beginning, since it feels a little bit like falling, but it doesn't last too long and you'll get used to it pretty fast. Not everybody experiences it as well.

While I understand why you may think that, it just isn't true. The true statement is that most synthetic nootropics are not available to be sold on Amazon. However this is a small part of the nootropics market.

These are three nootropics that are doing very well. There's plenty of room in this market to launch a "Natural Nootropic Super Blend" with a snazzy label and clever marketing. You'll never find good opportunities if you don't open your eyes to them, and just assume things cannot be sold.

Not that it really matters if you're diet is well planned, but it seems like her whole argument relies on someone not being able to afford a daily multivitamin (6 month supply on amazon is $13). The previously-studied benefits of BCAAs primarily come from the leucine, so an alternate option would be just to add some leucine powder to your protein shakes. As long as your protein doses are hitting the ~3 gram leucine threshold then you will be maximizing muscle protein synthesis.

Taking steroids doesnt make you invincible. You still need time to heal injuries, and overworking the muscle will injure it again.

And we dont know what Jeffery took. It might have been anabolic steroids, it could have been HGH, it could have been a stimulant like Ephedrine.

Hell, it could have been something like Animal Pak https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Nutrition-Animal-Multivitamin-Supplement/dp/B000GOT54C?th=1 (it used to be banned in the NFL), which is sold as a multivitamin - you dont need a prescription, you dont need to be 18, and youll find it overpriced at your local GNC. Or Sudafed, which the NFL requires you to get a prescription from NFL medical personnel before taking, even though its over-the-counter cold medicine.

And click this link for the NFLPA - https://www.nflpa.com/active-players/drug-policies. Right up top there is a warning - a EZ Weight Loss products have been found to be contaminated with a substance banned by the NFL. So if a player asked their NFL-endorsed trainer if they could take the product, the trainer knowing all the rules looked at the product, determined that it was fine, but then later its found that the product was contaminated and you just tested positive for PED, and you get treated as if you took anabolic steroids.

I guess thats my long way of saying just because Jeffrey failed a PED test doesnt mean his hamstrings are invincible.

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Force-Multiple-Capsules/dp/B000GFPD0G

Instructions say to take 4-8 per day. I take 2, one in the morning and one post workout. 23 cents per day about 1/3rd the price of animal pak at 75 cents per day

i get as much nutrients and minerals as i comfortably can from food, and just take a multivitamin and an omega3 supplement to take care of anything i don’t get. super duper cheap and it’s only 2 small pills per day which is easy. makes life a lot easier not worrying about if you got everything you needed that day. always pay attention to your nutrients and minerals, but always supplement so you don’t have to kill yourself over it.

these are the ones i take. i buy a year supply at a time -

vegan multivitamin with b12 - Deva Vegan Multivitamin, Mineral Supplement, Tiny Tablets, 90 Ct (2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CRHD118/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_beeMDb05SBAMR

omega3 - Freshfield Vegan Omega 3 DHA... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H9GL3Y8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I take B12 about every day (if I can remember) but if I was really busy and only had time for really sad meals then I'll take [this multivitamin] (https://www.amazon.com/Deva-Vegan-Multivitamin-Mineral-Supplement/dp/B01CRHD118/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1519318887&sr=8-2&keywords=deva%2Bmultivitamin&th=1).
