  • So many to choose from, good lord... I think I'm gonna go with Daniel Bedingfield's album Gotta Get Thru This. When I was in high school, I had a major crush on a guy in my class. He was a good friend of mine, and I asked him out only to get shot down because he apparently really wanted to date some other girl. We were still close all through school though, and we still talk occasionally. Anyway, he used to drive me around a lot since I didn't have a car, and one night on the way to get dinner, he played this CD. "If You're Not the One" came on, and that was the moment I realized how much I really cared for him. We listened to this CD a lot together after that, and now every time I play it, I wonder what could have been. He's definitely my "what-if" guy.

If I win, I'd like Daft Punk's new CD on my $11-$25 playlist if a physical album is okay. If you'd rather it be digital, then Our World Underground, Where Are You Now? on my MP3 list would make me just as happy. <3

  • This will so not be right at all, but all I can think of is "Truly, Madly, Deeply" by Savage Garden. I'm old. XD

If I magically win that part, any MP3 off my list would be awesome.

Thanks for a super fun contest!! :D

I love Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas and Louis Armstrong & Friends' "What A Wonderful Christmas" album, which has his wonderful, happy-making "Christmas In New Orleans" on it. ETA: Also, if you like New Orleans style jazz, I recommend Irvin Mayfield's new Christmas album, which is pretty great.

u/aldinefe · 1 pointr/FamiliesYouChoose

Wow. I hope you liked it.

OK - here are some other good ones

Mask of Zorro
Braveheart
The Mission
Con Air - good guitar motivational music
Inception
Lord of the Rings

If you like soundtracks enough, eventually you'll find that you have a favorite composer. For me, I generally like anything by Howard Shore or Hans Zimmer.

Edit1 - and now I'm listening to the Inception soundtrack...look what you've made me do!
Edit 2 - and now I've totally gone down the rabbit hole. I found these playlists on Amazon Prime.

Oh wow that photo is so majestic. I would love to just sit there and meditate for a few days or weeks...

I would really love this digital album if I win.

Thanks for the contest!! You rock :)

This is excellent advice. Custodianship of memories is as important as custodianship of the eyes, if not moreso. You must replace the sinful memories and experiences with the sacred and bury the sinful past as much as possible. Buy a couple CD's of Gregorian Chant:

https://www.amazon.com/Chant-Benedictine-Monks-Santo-Domingo/dp/B000002SKX

https://www.amazon.com/Sæcula-Sæculorum-Selections-Perennial-Chant/dp/B0089FI7I0/

https://www.amazon.com/Adventus-Gregorian-Chants-Sundays-Advent/dp/B001C98EN8/

https://www.amazon.com/BENEDICTA-Marian-Chant-Norcia-Monks/dp/B00V66GNMQ/

Listen to it whenever you would listen to other things. Watch movies like The Passion of the Christ, Ben Hur, etc.

Read the classics, ideally stuff before the 1960's, if not before the 20th century. Especially this: https://books.google.com/books?id=3PkYNcU0k94C&pg=PA3

Confession, early and often. Weekly or bi-weekly until you can break it. Mass as often as you can. Ideally, daily Mass but that might not be practical. If you can do that for a month, you should break the hold.

Obviously pray. You are not strong enough alone. I certainly wasn't. You can and should be begging the intercession of Our Blessed Mother. Pray the Rosary daily. Get formally invested in the brown scapular and wear it to remind you to pray your daily Rosary.

Pray before bed and when you wake up. An examination of conscience followed by a Confiteor and at least a decade of the Rosary. If you make it a habit, you will replace your lustful habits...

u/Cult_of_Civilization · 3 pointsr/Catholicism

The Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos have a classic album called Chant.

If you don't mind a cleaner, more professional sound, the group Chanticleer released a fantastic album of chants called Mysteria.

Some people enjoy the chant albums created by the group Ensemble Organum. They are high quality but not for everyone.

Another excellent album done by professionals (as opposed to monks) is 12th Century Monophonic Chant by Paul Hillier / Theatre of Voices.

For an authentic chant sound, recorded in a monastery, check out Salve Regina by the Benedictine Monks of the Abbey of Saint-Maurice and Saint Maur, Clervaux. On Amazon it's listed under the generic artist name "Benedictine Monks."

If you're looking for propers, a good one is Alberto Turco's Adorate Deum / Gregorian Chant from the Proper of the Mass.

Another good chant album that contains a couple of Masses, including the sublime Missa de Angelis, is a 3 CD set sold on Amazon.

One more. Chant - Music for Paradise (also known as Music for the Soul) is very good. The antiphon for In Paradisum, the first track, brings me to tears.

You can find a lot of these on YouTube.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Woo, congrats! I'm always terrified of presentations.
The best one I ever did was a synopsis of Act I of MacBeth in my 11th grade English class. I was the only one that was actually prepared. It felt pretty awesome. :3

Know what else is awesome? Tulips ...

And CDs.

u/Midnight_Lightning · 2 pointsr/Mozart

I highly recommend this album, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe and played on period instruments. It's my favorite recording of the Requiem, and one of my favorite albums overall. It just sucks me in from the first bar.

However, I would suggest checking out several recordings and seeing what suits you best. The Gardiner, Solti and Marriner recordings all have great aspects to them and are very highly regarded.

It seems like people are just naming their favorite composers rather than music similar to Williams. Well, to me Williams sounds the most like Wagner (grand orchestration and leitmotifs) and Bartók (primal rhythms and also a fair bit of the orchestration).

For Wagner, you could start with some overtures, e.g. Lohengrin, Lohengrin act III, Dutchman, Tristan (I guess I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Liebestod), Parsifal... but those don't really sound that much like John Williams, so sooner or later you'll just have to hunker down and watch the Ring with her. (You'll be surprised at the similarities to Star Wars, and I'm not just talking about the music.) Wagner certainly knows how to "build large-scale works".

Most of Bartók isn't orchestral, but then that wouldn't really sound similar, would it. Popular orchestral works include the five-movement Concerto for Orchestra and four-movement MSPC. If anything, Bartók will sound more like Williams than Wagner does, not because he learned more from Bartók but because his most "distinctive" stuff sounds like Bartók while everyone who ever writes an orchestral film score echoes Wagner.

Once you hear these, you'll realize just how much of a copycat Williams is, but there's nothing wrong with that, and it's hard to fault his choice of source material.

u/caseyjosephine · 2 pointsr/Guitar

Spotify premium or tickets to a concert would be most appreciated by me! Vinyl records are also always nice, provided the person giving them has good taste. DVD versions of live shows are awesome gifts: Led Zeppelin's two-disc set) with a bunch of performances is my favorite. I also really love Shut Up and Play the Hits; it's less guitar heavy, but it comes with a documentary about the band's last show as well as the show itself.

u/jdc021 · 2 pointsr/classicalmusic

Aside from actually attending a performance of the cycle (pricey, indeed), this is a great place to start. Rich, faithful staging with wonderful performances.

|name|The Oh Hello's|
|about artist|The Oh Hello's are Maggie and Tyler Heath, music-making siblings hailing from the great state of Texas. Their influences range from Mumford & Sons and The Civil Wars to Los Campesinos! and The Pogues, bending and blending styles and genres into a unique mixture of eclectic folk rock. Their debut EP draws inspiration from traditional irish folk songs in both its sound and its message, from the foot-stomping rhythms of Lay Me Down and Trees to the quiet introspection of Cold Is the Night. The EP begins by confronting the difficulties of love and freedom and ends by embracing them. ([more on last.fm](http://www.last.fm/music/The Oh Hello's))|

The Slater patch does not actually come with the hat. It's just a patch on its own, but you can only get it with the Deluxe Bundle Album pack for Tyler the Creator's "WOLF." They are sold out on oddfuture.com, and I don't know if they will get any more in, but I found it here.

Also, I couldn't find an plain orange snapback but I found green and blue. A non-courduroy snapback is cheaper and easier to find here but it just doesn't have the same look to it. A good place to look for a more vintage look would be a thrift shop if you have one locally. Otherwise just keep googling. Hope this helps :)

u/jameswarrensaid · 2 pointsr/bangtan

I have a quick question - sorry if the answer is obvious, but I've googled around and can't seem to find it.

When I go to preorder Love Yourself: Her on Amazon, it shows two different formats - one has a release date of Sept 18 and is sold out - the other is available and has an Oct. 4 release date.

Is the October 4 the date Amazon expects to have more in stock? Or is this a different version? The descriptions are the same for both. I've never done this before so, again, sorry if this is obvious to everyone here.

u/smokedjowls · 2 pointsr/classicalmusic

Get a free Spotify account and listen to the different recordings. Read reviews if you feel inclined. For Mozart's Requiem, you have to choose between recordings on modern instruments or period instruments, so it comes down to personal preference. On modern instruments usually the most recommended CDs are this, this, and this. Have fun finding something you like.

u/DropKickingBear · 70 pointsr/hiphopheads

Tyler The Creator - Wolf (Deluxe Version) comes with some items, poster, patch, pretty cool.

Kid Cudi - Man On The Moon: The End of Day comes with a poster.

Kanye West - Graduation comes with a posterFRONT. BACK

The Royal Albert Hall footage is my favorite concert of all time. The DVD also includes Madison Square Garden which is mostly IV and Houses, and Earls Court which is an acoustic set.
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00008PX8P/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1371848016&sr=8-1&pi=SL75

Audio wise, look up the album How the West Was Won. Contains most of the songs on the DVD and is considered its companion piece.

u/hlep · 3 pointsr/circlebroke

the album which is called () which the song "Untitled 6" is from is a concept album where neither the tracks or album itself has a real title, and the booklet that comes with is blank, and the idea is for the listener to interpet the songs for themself.

The language is what the band refers to as Hopelandish, which is a made up language.

But I could recommend pretty much any album of Sigur Ros, also lead singer Jónsi Birgisson's solo album is really good.

Both albums are avaible on Spotify as well.

Porter Robinson and Madeon - Shelter: The Complete Edition (Japan Exclusive)

It's pretty much just a greatest hits collection of two EDM artists (Porter Robinson, Madeon) that was released in Japan as a celebration of them doing a collaborative song and tour together.

My girlfriend picked it up for me when it first released for about $30 USD but now it's super expensive.

discogs, amazon

u/ChaseKendall1 · 2 pointsr/ToolBand

Not sure if you’ve got an original or why it was so expensive but I’ve seen re-issue laturalus picture disc gatefolds for $30-$40 at local record stores and guitar centers. I found one for $28 on amazon.
You could get a record frame for $15 at a craft store like michaels or Joan’s.
Still really cool though!!!

Since you're looking for a traditional production, I'd say the Met's production conducted by Levine is probably going to be your best bet. I haven't seen a ton of Ring Cycle DVDs, but all of the ones I've seen except for the Met/Levine have been "modern" productions (which can still be pretty cool if you go into it with an open mind). As for English subs, as far as I know most if not all DVDs will have them.

I dived in on a tight schedule (my obsessive compulsion prevented me from seeing Siegfried at the Met Live in HD 'cold') so I made a traipse to my uni's music library. They had THIS with ALL THE BOOKLETS. From 8 pm to nearly 2 pm, what I did was read the booklet of the opera, watch the opera, switch DVDs, repeat.

Sans the inherent craziness of watching them straight through, I think watching a subtitled recording would be the best way for you - even better if you can borrow it from someone, or check it out from a library. This particular set had booklets in each DVD with a detailed synopsis, including the original stage directions (as far as I can tell), and this particular production looked like it made an attempt at recreating the imagery, which again seems fitting for what you're looking for.

As an ending to my little tale, apparently, I sucked at reading the calendar, and thus ended up watching Gotterdammerung WHILE SIEGFRIED WAS PLAYING IN THEATRES ;-;.

Here's the link to BigHit's tweet about this, and here's the link to the Amazon page where they're selling Her. It's for a random version, comes with a poster, and is available via prime shipping in the USA and Canada. You'll receive it on the day of release if you order it!

Personally I'm hoping they'll release a 4-CD set for this, it's a great deal. Considering how big their fan base is in the North America and how cost prohibitive shipping prices for kpop merch can be, this is a really smart move.

Fun movie and fun game as well.

u/reallyemy · 2 pointsr/bangtan

Yes, the 4 versions are different! You can see the specifications here.

Most albums with come with a photobook + a CD, plus extras. In this case, if you preorder first press edition, the extras include 2 photocards, a minibook, and a poster. The 4 versions will all have the same CD, but 4 different photobooks and 4 different posters. The PC are random 1 out of 28 PCs.

Unfortunately, buying from Kpop Mart or other 3rd parties such as kpoptown, ktown4u, yesasia, koreanmall, etc. don't count towards Billboard. Only this particular listing on Amazon officially posted by Bighit (with Amazon Prime shipping) counts towards Billboard. Some of the other sites do count towards Hanteo and Gaon though!

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much (she knows!)
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear....

Here am I floating 'round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

I just watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty over the weekend and this song has been stuck in my head since. I don't know if the lyrics are really meaningful, but I like the tune and so I like the song.

Bought the vinyls on amazon

Bought the frames from Joann.com (x2)

Vinyls came very quickly with prime but frames took a while (like a week or so)

Installed like a normal framed photo except the ITS is a fold out cover so it needs to be kinda forced in, clips on the back need extra pressure to close so the backboard doesn't fall out. Clips have holes that you can line up on your wall for mounting. I used command strip picture mounting to put them up because my school doesn't let people nail into the walls (you could probably find them cheaper than this). To get the white background I flipped the included paper pictured in the joann webpage and poked a hole after lining up the vinyl with the back board.

If some of this doesn't make sense or isn't clear let me know, I'd be happy to clarify more.

Hope this helps.

I decided to use slower shipping from Amazon for the vinyl in the hopes that AutoRip will be available for it on release (it will!), so it won't be arriving until next week.

Though I guess that means I'll have two digital copies now, if the vinyl comes packaged with one as well.

Sexual favors aside, I would want This. HOWEVER, most people are not rich, so I'm just gonna say get him a record player, and some of the vinyls, some beer/wine from Caduceus cellars/whatever he drinks, and a shirt (you can never have too many, but if he has some already, try to get one that looks moderately different from the others, such as a white one or one with an entirely different design). All in all, this gift should run in at about $100-150, depending on what you get specifically. Hope this helps

u/Iacoizumi · 2 pointsr/MLPLounge

But you were just talking about purchasing Random Access Memories as a vinyl, which will run you at least 25$ currently. The phono preamp will cost you around twice that. Not to mention it looks like you'd be okay without an extra sound card, seeing how your motherboard has a Realtek ALC898 chipset, which is rated for input and output up to 24/192.

When you're buying European music, it may be wise to check Amazon.co.uk. There RAM seems to be 18.14£ = $27.27. I don't know about shipping costs, but they can't be more than a few bucks (at least aren't from the US to Europe).

EDIT: It's even cheaper in Amazon.de (25.699144 U.S. dollars), if you can handle German. I can't.

u/Fafner_88 · 4 pointsr/classicalmusic

Don't bother with Bohm, it's awful. Go for Karajan's 70's or 80's versions (his 60's recording is not that good either).

Some other versions that I like are the two 1 2 recordings by Marriner, Colin Davis, and Schreier.

Concerning recordings with period instruments, I second Herrweghe's recording, and would also recommend Harnoncourt's recording which is very unique.

u/DrSausage · 1 pointr/DealsReddit

Exactly. Great live stuff, but the fantasy footage is awful.

Not to get all Led Zeppelin nerdy on you, but they came out with a 2 DVD set of live sets from different eras of their career that is awesome.

  1. I’ve seen them 24 times from Coast to Coast (in the US at least) and have never paid anywhere close to $200 for a ticket. Including a show at a small NY Opera house on the 10K Days mini-tour where I was greeted by a tux-wearing usher and had to check my coat at the door.

  2. Radiohead and Beyoncé (among others) - 2 of the biggest names in music whether we want to admit it or not - have both dropped brand new albums with NO prior warning, marketing or announcement of any kind. Tool announced the release date months in advance and even told fans in advance that new music was going to be played on the tour that just completed.

  3. Here is Lateralus Vinyl for under $30:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005BGV2

    Undertow Vinyl for $25:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000000992/

    Opiate Vinyl for $9:
    https://www.amazon.com/Opiate-Ep-Tool/dp/B00000098N

  4. The setlist from this most recent tour contained 11-13 songs depending on if it was a festival gig or not.

Of those 11-13 songs - TWO were brand new tracks, ONE was a brand new drum solo, and THREE others (Intolerance, Sweat, and Part of Me) have been extremely rare cuts over the last decade (or more).

So going into the most recent tour, chances were 100% that out of the 11-13 songs they were going to play, you were going to get no less than 3 new songs you’d never heard before (period) and almost 100% that you’d get a 4th song you’d at least never heard live before.

  5. Now get off your f’ing soapbox. We need the f’ing space to nail the next fool poster.
