>/AUTISTIC SQUEE-ING

Yay, a fellow prequelmemer :D That's my favorite sub on Reddit. It turned me from a serial lurker, jumping from one sub to another, to someone who actually contribute back to the community. Although my posts lean more towards sithpostings rather than actual high quality OCs :p

>I am an avid amateur writer, and I have a huge investment in the study of languages. I can read in just about any Romance language to a pretty decent level.

Wow, that's a lot of languages that you're good at. It's really impressive and definitely a worthwhile hobby, nevermind what others say :) I read the link you gave me, and there's a table about writing systems. I thought learning about the language itself is challenging enough, now complete with various ways of writing/pronouncing it, I admire you so much!

>East Asian languages are a bit out of my range

Why do I get the feeling that once you get started on it, it'd actually come by pretty easy for you :p I agree, that is super cool! To be able to watch anime/read manga without having to rely on the translations would be satisfying af. Heck, when I read and understand (like really simple, common) words in katakana/hiragana, it felt like a big achievement to me xD

>Do you do much anime or video games?

Anime/manga is a pretty big part of my childhood especially being Asian, I've been reading translated manga since I was little. What about you? Is there any particular anime/manga that you love? When I buy it here, it's pretty cheap but when I went to the states during my undergrad, I was shocked because they are so freaking expensive like this one. On amazon at least it's discounted, but at B&N everything is list price. I guess the licensing plays a big part in that.

>If you ever get bored and need something different to listen to, there's a lot of stuff by Nobuo Uematsu that fills that gap nicely.

Thanks for the rec! I'll give it a listen. Japanese video games and anime have good soundtrack so it's always a win when I find more :)

>I'll let you know how it goes when I finally get there.

Please do! I don't read crime thriller much so I'll wait to hear your thoughts on it first before starting xD

>Little pricey for a digital copy

I checked it on google play myself and it's EXPENSIVE. Hell, even the paperback version is much cheaper. Probably better if you use the money to buy books that you're used to reading, I'd hate it if you were to be disappointed especially after spending so much money on it :(

>I still miss my grandma's piano some days, and I haven't seen it in years...

Awww.... :')

>It doesn't help that, as often as I use alternate tunings, it's sometimes really impractical to play the ones I do know.

In a way this kinda makes sense to me because you have you own style/way of playing and others have theirs, there's nothing wrong with that ;)

>I have recently learned this one

I'll be honest, this is a kind of genre I wouldn't have listened to by myself since it's a huge leap from my usual, but from what I’ve heard I like it. I love his voice in particular but since we’re talking about you playing the song using guitar, I’m probably missing the point here xD

Turn Back Time is definitely more of my style of music, I love Future Bass, and I think Flume is genius (although now he's experimenting in other forms of EDM which is perfectly fine). This song kinda has a Mazde vibe to it and I’m digging it. I've added it to my playlist, it's a fun one :D

>I love, love, love jazz as a style, and I'm actually pretty good at jazz on the saxophone

Oh god, are you like this multi-talented person irl but only few people are actually aware of it? Forgive my imagination for a while here but I'm having major flashbacks to Parks & Rec when Ron Swanson/Duke Silver came out of nowhere and played amazing saxophone at the festival in front of the whole town.

Back to the main point, yeah I was wondering how that'd work because the type of jazz I listen to usually doesn't have guitar mixed in but I'm sure there's a whole genre for that. You're right! It is sexy~ My favorite part is at 1:30 (which you would've already expected) definitely a mix between groovy and smooth jazz.

Gotg yes, it's brilliant!! For a while there I was obsessed with Ooh Child because of that movie. Although I prefer the first movie compared to the second one, what do you think? I know we're already talking about a lot of topics as it is, but are you a fan of Marvel movies? :D

Oh. my. god. I love it!! Thanks for bringing it to my attention <3 I've listened to it like 3 times now and I've added it to my playlist, right now I'm listening to The Ink Spots other songs.

I wholeheartedly agree, I love developers who take the time to design soundtracks and create the right atmosphere for their game, and Bethesda is one of them. Take this for example, I actually prefer this version than the original 1918 song xD

Do you play video games? What kind do you usually play if you do? :)

Alright, this is what I managed to scrounge together from memory and notes. All of them are available in English and I will be occasionally giving extra summarized details to further interest you into clicking on the links. Expect a lot of Franco-Belgian and nothing from Japan, mainly because I expect a lot of people to swamp you with Manga suggestions.

  1. Beautiful Darkness - I got this recently and wouldn't exactly call it a master piece or a "must buy" but an interesting read nonetheless.

  2. The Obscure Cities series - Only the first volume is available in English yet and the second volume is coming out this month, although that's technically not the first volume. The stories are somewhat standalone but become interconnected so it's not an overtly terrible thing that they aren't printing them in order of publication. I own this and would recommend it.

  3. Zagor: Terror From the Sea - An Italian series set in the Wild West...er Eastern United States. This is the first of what will hopefully be many collections for this character's stories. There are also two other trades out now called Zagor: The Red Sand and Zagor: Voodoo Vendetta.

  4. Yoko Tsuno - Back to Belgian again. Basically, a (young?) female Japanese scientist travels all around the world with her friends and engage in all sorts of high-tech adventures.

  5. Aya of Yop City series - A partially autobiographical comic set in a French West African colony during the 1970's. Was also adapted into an animated movie three years ago.

  6. Afrika

  7. [The XIII series](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/XIII_(comics) - A Belgian spy thriller series about a man trying to figure out his past. Has been made into a video game, movie, and tv series!

  8. Few people know this, but the smurfs actually started life as a Belgian comic!

  9. Morbus Gravis - A very NSFW Italian series. It's an erotic science fiction, fantasy, post-apocalyptic series that actually seems kind of interesting when you look past all the erotica.

  10. Adele Blanc Sec - A French series about a Victorian female investigative journalist who encounters all sorts of bizarre and supernatural mysteries. I have yet to read the book but watched and thoroughly enjoyed the movie based on it.

  11. [Barbarella](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarella_(comics) - You are probably more familiar with the movie adaptation of this slightly erotic (at least less so when compared to Morbus Gravis) Science Fiction French comic.

  12. The Nikopol Trilogy

  13. [Sillage](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_(comics) - Sadly only half of this French Science Fiction series is available in English and what is available had the (non-erotic) nudity scenes of art censored.

BONUS: Technically not a suggestion, but nonetheless I love to frequent this blog about comics in the Philippines. It's interesting to see how the American comics of the 1990's influenced this comic book industry during that time. I have also been researching recently the superheroes of India and Indonesia.

  1. I hope this book is reasonable :)

2.1) I do graphic design stuff. That's pretty fun!

2.2) /u/gymgal19 is an awesome person and the best bestie anyone could want.

2.3) I find penguins interesting. And by interesting, I really mean adorable and epic. They're like the bacon of birds in how amazing they are.

  2. Rød grød med fløde.

  3. Third Thing +1
u/PrinceDakkar · 4 pointsr/AnimeDeals

A lot of these are pseudo-random/not in a particular order (like vol 20, 21, and 22), but there are often 2-3 in a series that qualify. I also found some (listed at the bottom) that weren't part of this deal but had coupons to use to get them for an immediate discount.

RWBY: Official Manga Anthology Vol. 1 & Vol. 3

Rurouni Kenshin Vol. 7: Includes vols. 19, 20 & 21 & Vol. 9

Dragon Ball omnibuses: Vol 5, Vol 13

Tokyo Ghoul: re, Vol. 11 & Vol. 8 & Vol. 13

Radiant Vol. 5 and Vol. 6 - Is this even technically a manga??

Mixed 3-for-2 and coupon deals within a series (but you should probably collect these series in their box sets to save money):

Bleach, Vol. 64 is $8.68 - $2.02 coupon.

Bleach, Vol. 68 & Vol. 69 & Vol. 70 & Vol. 73

Bleach Box Set 3: Includes vols. 49-74

Naruto (3-in-1 Edition), Vol. 23: Includes vols. 67, 68 & 69 is part of the 3 for 2 deal.

Naruto, Vol. 67 is part of the 3 for 2 deal.

Naruto, Vol. 72 is $8.45 - $1.79 coupon.

One Piece, Vol. 76 is $8.66 - $2.00 coupon.

One Piece, Vol. 77 is part of the 3 for 2 deal.

One Piece, Vol. 78 is $8.36 - $1.70 coupon. Same price as vol 76.

---

Interesting stuff part of the 3 for 2 deal:

Shigenori Soejima: Art Works Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 - From Persona artist Shigenori Soejima.

Lone Wolf and Cub Omnibus Volume 1

Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 2 and Volume 3

Recently watched it, it was the only Kon movie I hadn't watched yet. and it was good, easily his best movie. It really gets across the feeling of what it's like to be gaslit by an obsessive fan.

BTW. Did you know it was based on a book? It was recently licensed by 7 Seas publishing, you can get it for pocket change on Amazon

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Get me out of here!

Thanks for the contest!

I relax by playing with my cats, laying in bed for a little while and doing nothing, reading, playing video games, and drawing. What is your favorite way to relax?

Book.

Yes, especially if you like adventure/action stories! If you're a movie buff, this manga has a lot of homages in the splash pages for each chapter! Also, please buy the manga in English if you can to support Noda-sensei! Or buy the JP version since they're cheaper...

u/wongsta · 2 pointsr/Genshiken

This link does work: https://mangaseeonline.us/read-online/Genshiken-Nidaime-chapter-12-page-214.html

I think when you copied the link from your browser it must have had the extra stuff which broke it, but the original link works fine.

And you appear to be correct - if this chapter occurs after chapter 127 (the "last" chapter), it isn't even on Batoto...

Edit: I think I might know why...I think mangaseeonline is actually hosting a scan of the legal translation, as the title of that chapter exactly matches. That is why they list by volume instead of by chapter. Probably the bonus chapter was never fan-translated.

It's volume 12: https://www.amazon.com/Genshiken-Second-Season-Shimoku-Kio/dp/1632365510

Detective Conan
(Synopsis)
(Volume List)
(Amazon)
(Funimation)
English version is called Case Closed.
Primary genres: Shounen; Mystery; Adventure;

My favorite. Still on going since 1994.

A Naruto Box Set. ~26 27 Volumes I think.

Bought one for Death Note soon after (:

Edit: Added links.
Also have my eye on this.

u/Hibernica · 17 pointsr/Lovecraft

Unspeakable Vault - Absurd comedy

The Laundry Files - Sysadmins make great magical civil service spies

C'Thulhu Saves the World - Exactly what it says on the cover.

Nyaruko-San, Another Crawling Chaos - This is what you get when you combine Lovecraft with Japan. Also, this is basically a Lovecraftian sitcom.

Sandy Petersen's CThulhu Mythos for Pathfinder - Exactly what it says on the cover.

In Strange Aeons: Lovecraftian Numenera - Lovecraft supplement for Numenera, also compatible with The Strange the Cypher System for genre independence

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - I promise, it's a cute Magical Girl show and nothing bad ever happens.

Munchkin Cthulhu - The least C'Thulhu-y C'Thulhu game of them all.

Infestation 2 - 30 Days of Night, Dungeons & Dragons, G.I. Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Transformers all punch out C'Thulhu

I could go on, but I won't because I'm tired and lazy.

Edit: Okay fine.
Stupid and Insane Defenders Against Chaos - You're on your own here.

Alright, kid. You're 12. You like to read. Good work. It's useful for exploring new interests. A few recommendations for life in book form:
Yoga for Dummies
Chinese: Crash Course
A Series of Unfortunate Events
The Phantom Tollbooth
How to Stop Worrying and Start Living
Case Closed, Vol. 1
What We Talk About When We Talk About Love

Those should get you started on an introspective teenagehood. If any of those strike your interests, let me know and I'll do a little digital dumpster diving.

u/Cdresden · 2 pointsr/suggestmeabook

The best thing I've ever read is Lone Wolf and Cub by Kazuo Koike and Gozeki Kojima. The English edition series has now been issued in a group of 9 omnibuses. At $16 a pop, that's a significant outlay, but you won't be sorry.

u/Mystic-Mask · 1 pointr/HiTMAN

So I went searching for it and came across a tradeback here ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/1524106607/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1lf4Bb5WCS0FY ), but according to Amazon the release date is May 2019? That can't be right, can it?

u/tosendhelp · 2 pointsr/Megaten

> the chapters aren't translated yet

It's been translated by fans [here] (http://mangafox.me/manga/persona_4/), and because of that people haven't bought the official one obviously. Well, I think so, anyway.
