In that case, to Amazon we go!

Amazon has a couple of nice-looking ones. Just search "red gold tie," and it'll pull up some very nice ones, like this one. Apparently the Harry Potter brand-name Gryffindor ties they sell are closer to purple and gold, not so much red and gold, so I'd steer clear of those. Same for the one in the official Warner Bros. shop - make sure to read the reviews, a lot of them are purple-ish, not red. The Universal Orlando shop has a fairly good-looking one, though I bought a Hufflepuff tie from Universal/WWOHP, and it felt a little cheap to me... still, it looks great. You might want to try getting one from them. Lastly, Whimsic Alley has been making the rounds on r/harrypotter lately, and they have lots of great costume gear. They have a Gryffindor tie that looks pretty darn good, but I've never purchased from their shop before, so I can't vouch for quality. They seem pretty intense about accuracy though (even differentiating between different tie styles in the movies), so I bet you could safely order it without worries...

I hope that helps. :)

I like the shirt, but on the other hand, I like to bring out the patterns in the tie as opposed to the shirts. Something like this with a light blue or white shirt is normally my go to, then go wild with the socks. You could go with the blue patterned shirt, I like a solid dark burgundy tie, ties in the dark shoes. Hope you have fun at the party!

All of me, loves all of you

and I'm pretty new here but /u/utinni has the same name as me, which is cool :)

and I am in need of a tie clip!

You're awesome! :)

Big thanks to /u/rarelyserious for helping me find this gorgeous dress that should absolutely be added to Madam Malkins robe shop for the big event! I will likely be getting it for myself in the near future as well :)

If one of our fantastic professors decides to sponsor me, I'd feel awful asking you to spend $80 though... so instead, if I get picked, could you sponsor my fiance? He really likes this tie, and I think it would make him look extra-dapper at the muggle ball! :)

We are! Yay! Inside werewolf is a different world man. I always like to confirm outside.

Chain mail tie is badass. This is good too.

I tried to find one just covered in explosions but couldn't find one.

And relaxed dress codes are great.

Whelp since we have to use what we have on hand looks like I am having a bunch of Nabisco snack packs and one last back of Pizza Flavored Combos.....not actually too upset about that. Alright, I chose a few options for if I win because I am not very good at choosing things. Everything is $10 or less before shipping: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Thanks for the contest :)

You know the people who stock at the grocery store, and the painters/construction workers you see all the time, and all the cashiers you encounter during your everyday life? They're people too! And far too often people just act like they're some robot doing a job and they don't exist. I can't bear to ignore a person, though, especially someone who's doing a job that benefits me that I wouldn't want to do (such as construction). So I always make a point to genuinely ask how they're doing. A lot of the time people will kind of be taken aback because so few people actually ask how they are doing, but I like to think it makes at least some of them happier :-)

Rainbow tie!

Thanks for responding. I've started collecting the light blue shirts (up to 4). I was thinking my shirt like this (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/john-w-nordstrom-trim-fit-egyptian-cotton-dress-shirt/3160584?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=john_w._nordstrom(r)_trim_fit_egyptian_cotton_dress_shirt:345762&cm_pla=tops:men:dress-shirt&cm_ven=Froogle&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=52795408-A9AE-E011-8116-001517B1882A) but cheaper with a red tie (due to the occasion). These were a few I was considering Red1 or Red2 or Red3. I don't own any navy ties do you think something like this or this would be appropriate in general?

Thank you again for taking the time to help already.

Helmet: Sequel (episode 7 or 8) stormtrooper helmet https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Awakens-Stormtrooper-2-Piece/dp/B00TP50V4Q/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1541091183&sr=8-17&keywords=star+wars+stormtrooper+helmet

Jacket: White, single breasted, looks like a shawl lapel except they usually don't come to a point like that? Might be a single notch fish mouth and you don't see the seem because it's so dark? Looks like an Italian cut to my eye, but not an expert. This you'd have to get at a tailor or store specializing in mens suits

Tie: White silk tie https://www.amazon.com/Neckties-Microfiber-Woven-Satin-Finish/dp/B00OEF002K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1541091156&sr=8-2&keywords=white+silk+tie

Shirt: Just a black dress shirt you can buy at any dress clothing store or online

here's the original post: http://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/1ik7g6/saw_someone_wearing_this_does_anyone_know_where_i/

After everyone's advice, I decided to try and make one myself. I actually found another design online I liked and made a second one.

The results were pretty decent for the little expense and effort. I had to do some touch-ups with a black permanent marker (I tried to zoom in on the photo so you could see), but from a natural distance the touch-ups are invisible.

Here's how I did it:

  1. bought a $2.56 tie from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/TopTie-Solid-Skinny-Black-Necktie/dp/B003YXUKKA/ref=sr_1_4?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1375653579&sr=1-4

  2. taped the pattern out on the tie using Scotch Blue edge lock tape http://www.scotchblue.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotch-BlueBrand/Scotch-Blue/Resources/Edge-Lock-Protector/

  3. used flat white spray paint I bought from Walmart for 98 cents. Sprayed 3 coats. Waited roughly a half-hour between coats, then let dry entirely.

  4. Removed the tape.

  5. Used a black permanent marker to touch-up the bleed from the white paint 'caused by the texture of the tie fabric.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results, especially 'cause it took maybe an hour of on-and-off work total (for both ties together, not counting dry time) and it cost less than $4 bucks per tie.

why not just wear zipper ties? so much easier... Zipper Tie

so im being downvoted for suggesting an easy alternative? thats cool.

u/SirChurch · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

Zipper ties are a good alternative when you suck at tying a knot. Looks like an actual tie v a clip on and is relatively inexpensive.
