A lot of us made mistakes starting out, but what's important is we learn from our mistakes, take the advice given, and improve the quality of life for our little buddies. I also understand having too small a space for a really big tank, but a 5g or even a 5.5g is really NOT that big... as reference, I originally had 3.5g tanks (the TopFin Enchant) for my bois with lots of water quality maintenance, but recently switched over to 5.5g tanks (TopFin Essentials kit) which fit in the EXACT same places the old 3.5g tanks fit (after doing a bit of cleaning and moving of stuff that didn't actually need to be there on the tabletop or simply sliding them over a bit). The tanks are just a bit more longer, around 16 inches long, but if you think about it, that's really not that bad and will fit fine on most nightstands or side-tables / end-tables or whatnot. I actually wish I had made the switch sooner. I see a NOTICEABLE difference in how much more active my bettas are now with the slightly larger tanks, even though they were quite active in the 3.5g tanks.

Do keep in mind that a filled 5g tank will weigh around 40 lb, and a 5.5g will weigh around 45 lb, so whatever you choose to keep them on should be able to support that amount of weight without collapsing (don't let that discourage you from getting the proper size tank though, just make sure to find sturdy furniture to keep them on :) and all will be well).

Here's some possible sturdy yet small shelfs/tables which will fit a 5.5g tank:

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-Shelf-Shelving-Unit-Black/dp/B01LWP8AL2/ (it says each shelf can support up to 250 lb). The only thing I would add (although optional, but would provide better support for the tank) is a sturdy but thin plank of wood to the top shelf surface for the tank to sit on top.

https://www.amazon.com/RooLee-Tables-Living-Vintage-Storage/dp/B07LC9F89R (another option that looks very sturdy, and would be amazing as a 5.5g aquarium stand, but costs more)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TLLSN5R/ (somewhat costly but looks great and sturdy)

Ok, for the chaise, yes you can use it!

You can get one or two modular chair pieces of the sofa and that gives you options...flexible and move around as you like...

You could get the corner section http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90235184/ and have that + chaise at the end of the bed... You could get another chair section without arms and place it on the wall for a seating area..

I'll be editing in more ideas as I go along...brb

Okay it looks like you want to do the higher ratio of black to white... I think you have too many dark things (your black desk would disappear) etc Plus that carpet to pull it off, so I might suggest a more 50/50 or 60/40 ratio...

I was thinking you could paint the walls behind the desk and bed the ivory/warm white (not too ivory just not bright white) but do it a bit more interestingly. Paint the entire back wall white and divide the side walls in thirds. So to the left of the bed that side wall will be 2/3 black and 1/3 white nearest the bed table side (or back wall. On the wall with the desk paint it 2/3 white (desk area) and 1/3 black (door area?) here's a drawing I hope it makes sense http://imgur.com/JnKS4xS and black on the far wall (between the doors?)

The thirds is just a guide- don't paint up to the door trim try to leave a foot or something ie don't make the paint change at a trim, but make the color change happen on the wall)

Are you familiar with paint? You'll need matte wall paint. (Satin or eggshell finish) Gloss paint should be for furniture or other things.

You might consider painting the wood on your desk white... Be very sophisticated... That's a good thing to be gloss paint...

Your chaise is dark so you might want to go light and dark with your bedding, I'll try to look for some pics...

If you keep your chair then your bright color could be green. The chair is pretty neon, but you could tone it down and repeat the natural look of the leather by using plants to be your green in the room. One or more chartreuse colored plants in the mix might make the chair seem less neon green...

A simple bed frame this one is fabric covered http://www.westelm.com/products/6978191/?catalogId=19&sku=6978191&bnrid=3902401&cm_ven=Google_PLA&cm_cat=Shopping&cm_pla=All_Beds&cm_ite=AllProducts&kwid=productads-adid%5E47300729873-device%5Et-plaid%5E75256203996-sku%5E6978191-adType%5EPLA&gclid=CMT4qrmPl88CFYM9gQodSZIDlA

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19129611/

This one is nice and simple lines, and would be graphic against the white wall http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79157936/

A glossy nightstand like this might go well https://www.atgstores.com/nightstands/tvilum-7007049-austin-nightstand_7001078.html?ppc=2615&af=2615&cm_mmc=sce_google&s_kwcid=AL!4500!3!107195932623!!!g!190210896303!&gclid=CNaIjOmPl88CFU87gQodvE8N4w&ef_id=V9W4DgAAAGTAZ@sV:20160917192142:s. That one is on amazon too

This is more expensive but it brings in wood, and is kind of interesting ...https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Y82YH0/ref=s9_topr_hd_bw_bFfBj_g196_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-5&pf_rd_r=TV3W0YX5JFW942B0TNZ8&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=6d2f0f6c-ec5f-52dd-a7b7-204489b64b9e&pf_rd_i=3733251

You might use a rug in the sofa area...http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00314656/

For bedding I like this picture as an example. You could get white bedspread or comforter than a set each of white, dark grey and light gray sheets and pillow cases. You can mix and match your sheets and pillows however you like. When ever.... https://www.etsy.com/listing/263385896/large-42-macrame-wall-hanging-tapestry?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_a-home_and_living-home_decor-wall_decor&utm_custom1=696971ae-3c8f-4895-aa5b-6b4c0f756e4c&gclid=CNGC2dqUl88CFdcZgQod0ZsDSQ

And a light (white or ivory) throw blanket can go on either the bed or the chaise...

YOu can get chamois cloth in the car department of stores and make the leather pillows with it... https://jet.com/product/detail/d08f38bf8f414a71850824f6e0cd53a2?jcmp=pla:ggl:cons_win_home_garden_a3:household_supplies_household_cleaning_supplies_a3_other:na:PLA_355854900_24814278420_pla-155997551820:na:na:na:2&code=PLA15&ds_c=cons_win_home_garden_a3&ds_cid=&ds_ag=household_supplies_household_cleaning_supplies_a3_other&product_id=d08f38bf8f414a71850824f6e0cd53a2&product_partition_id=155997551820&gclid=CMPBtc2Vl88CFdgRgQod-SkGQQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Congratulations on finding a lovely new-to-you home! 😊

I second giving up a bedroom in favor of a closet/office space 👍🏻 That can allow you to really organize your essentials in the bedroom

Other options would be:

Creating an open closet system, like this one

Placing your bed on risers, allowing for more under bed storage - these and similar risers come with outlets/USBs

Getting a bookshelf nightstand, like this would create more streamlined vertical storage

Best wishes as you move in! 💞

u/MadtownMaven · 1 pointr/DesignMyRoom

Always first on the list is tidy things up. Messy doesn't look cozy or comfortable. Clear off the surfaces of the dressers and side tables.

  • your walls are looking a bit rough. Are you able to paint them? If you already have brushes and supplies, then that's just a $50 fix to really change up the feel of the room. Adding in supplies it'd be about $100 (could be less if you bargain shop).

  • The bed really needs a headboard. Amazon has some really reasonably priced ones. Something like this.

  • The random bits on the walls of above the windows/doors needs to go. More artwork is great, but properly hang it on the wall.

  • The curtain is too light and not properly hung. Get two panels of a heavy, more textured material and then add some tie backs for them.

  • For a more cozy look, add more pillows to the bed, a warm textured large rug, and a nice sized plant somewhere.

  • Rather than the two little side tables on "her" side, get one sturdy night stand. Something like this that has solid drawers for storing things. Add a side lamp to help with lighting. What is that floating lampshade by the black wall art stuff? It seems really out of place.

  • Only keep the chaise if you actually sit in and use it. I'd slide it a bit further away from the chest of drawers, more towards the corner. Put a nice reading lamp next to it and a large floor plant on the other end/right in front of the window.

Hello!

I personally believe that you can’t stray too far from the design of this Bed. It’s a really heavy and bold choice in a room. And because that wood has such deep looking cerusing, it’s very apparent that you need to have wood tones be represented throughout.

I like picking up on the black
Sort of like this

If you can find one in-budget and doesn’t make you look like a 70s bachelor, leather clad might a really cool option as well.
I’m not totally mad at this one.

Good luck!

u/Steelersgirl20 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I've really been wanting this Bookshelf I haven't put it on my wish list but I need too. Also these I've been needing, I know they would look great in a room and possibly this night stand would be nice too :)

u/anunknowngoat · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

I'd do a nice shag carpet trailing from beneath that bed, and maybe a light-wood blanket chest at its foot. If you're going for mid-century modern, as per the lamp and pillows, I'd try for some matching artwork, and perhaps some pop-art canvas prints, on the wall. Definitely a big, fat, personally resonant poster, on the wall above the headboard. That heating unit by the radiator is THIRSTY for plants! I'll be honest, I'm not in love with that mirror. If you could somehow remove that wavy border, that'd be better. Maybe install a bureau/chest of drawers beneath it, to give the impression of a (slightly more butch) vanity. You might try putting the bed against the mirror, just to see how that looks. As for nightstands, probably go metal and wood, just like the bed. Maybe [this] (https://www.amazon.com/SONGMICS-Nightstand-Stackable-Furniture-ULET54X/dp/B0783PDVTH/ref=sr_1_10?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1541258272&sr=1-10&keywords=metal+nightstand) or [this] (https://www.amazon.com/SONGMICS-Vintage-Assembly-Furniture-ULET41X/dp/B074WNTK3Q/ref=sr_1_5?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1541258272&sr=1-5&keywords=metal+nightstand). I just did a "metal nightstand" search, on Amazon. Wayfair might have more interesting options.

u/nobleland_mermaid · 6 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

sure :)

the two tables are nightstands from amazon (i bought them a while back and looks like black are sold out now but they still have the grey)

tabletop is ikea covered in marble contact paper, the shelf, storage boxes on the bottom right, under shelf lighting (can't really see it in the photo above but looks like this lit up), and picture frames are also ikea, and the rack holding the palettes is an ikea dish drainer. the tables aren't as deep as the tabletop is, which worked for me because I wanted to add some lighting in the corner but because I was worried about the table tipping backwards I also added a single table leg from ikea to the center back of the tabletop.

the lights, mirror, lipstick holder, plant mister, square grey containers, and glasses holding brushes/products are from target

the risers that the lipstick organizer and glasses are on I made from a 2x4 and 2x8 painted black, the stool is actually a storage ottoman. I believe it came from target too but I've had it a few years so I'm not positive. the tray holding my skincare is a candle holder with a sentimental plate glued on top (teacup candle on one of the book stacks is the matching set). the mercury glass tray and box i *think* were from antropologie but they were a gift quite a few years ago so I don't know for sure. everything else I already had and am not sure where it came from

For my 10 gal I used one of these, though it wasn't ideal since it was barely just not long enough: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLZE4EW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's what I'm currently on: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BL1G9XI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a cart, not a table (my bad), but I just left the wheels off. It's self-assembly but it was easy to do, and both my boyfriend and I stood/jumped on it afterward to ensure it was stable. Combined, we're probably a total of 320 lbs.

u/octopusgreenhouse · 1 pointr/HelpMeFind

Something like this would also be similar to what I'm looking for, though I'd like a real drawer and if I could find them made from boards instead of particle board I'd be happy

u/iplaytinder · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I'm also looking for a new nightstand and it needed it to be under 14.5" deep (so dresser drawers don't bump it)

Here's what I've found so far on amazon, I will check homegoods too when my new bedframe comes in

https://www.amazon.com/Winsome-Squamish-Accent-1-Drawer-Finish/dp/B0094G34WW/ref=sr_1_19?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1550074279&sr=1-19&keywords=nightstand

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071G2R5NP/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AH77K6WBSHIWB&psc=1

please let me know if you find anything better in this pricerange

u/JDTechGear · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Found this on amazon as well "VASAGLE Industrial Side Table" its great to have a bit of seperation to have more desk space and look less cluttered, unless you've got a massive desk.

u/justmikeandshit · 4 pointsr/LAlist

I bought this nightstand from Amazon and it's been perfect for me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NPTUGM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Dude. I feel you so bad. If anyone can find me this I'd die a happy man.

Standard Furniture Coronado 2 Drawer Nightstand in Ash https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002WK0QDW/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_6T2rxb42KH4JS

[Found it on Amazon. ](LASUAVY Ladder Shelf Bookcase... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DJBZ1SR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

I wanted a stand with open space to get as much light. Easy to assemble too.

u/Colorations · 2 pointsr/berkeley

Another option is a bedside shelf like this one

u/mooninitespwnj00 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Here you go. It took me forever to find some that would work with that stand. The wood doesn't match, even though they're both "walnut," but it's close enough not to worry me.

u/Blue_In_Greenish · 1 pointr/hookah

With my Shishabucks issues sorted, it was time to figure out a new hookah table. We switched the table for an ottoman, so I wanted something small that I could move around.
Since the shishabucks hoses are lower than my Egyptian, I wanted something that would secure the base for the inevitable dog-pulling the hose. I ended up with this cheap Amazon table(Ikea quality):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HG5W576?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

A six inch hole later and I had the finished product. It works, but I see a sturdier version with caster wheels in the future.

Most one night-stands don't extend too far out. You could try this to see if it fits your body type.
