For both N3DS and N3DSXL systems
Some of these can also be found from retailers online, like Best Buy and Target. I generally use Best Buy, Amazon, and eBay, but check other retailers just in case.
Case: Looking for a protector that protects your system from scratches? Most people recommend the HORI TPU case. NA currently has one for the XL (LL in Japan), but you'll have to import one for the standard size.
Looking for a pouch to keep your system from dust or to carry on-the-go and protect them from falls? There's sooo many options you can just search up on Amazon and eBay, not to mention other Japanese import sites.
Screen Protectors: Screens will inevitably get scratched, as careful as anyone can be. If you're someone who cannot stand scratches or want to keep your system in perfect condition, you can't go wrong with screen protectors.
Micro SD card: Can't go wrong with Sandisk, and I purchased the 32GB since that's the highest Nintendo says the system will support. Any higher and you have to format it to FAT32 in your PC so the system will recognize it. Any good brand will be fine though, but I just go with Sandisk all the time.
Stylus: This DSi stylus is so damn comfortable. I never thought it mattered because I just put up with the cramping, but I purchased some items on the Nintendo Online store, so I went for it. It's all I use now. The cheapest shipping is $5 on the store though, so go for it when you're ordering other items with it.
Customization?
For N3DS
Coverplates: Amazon.JP if you have a forwarding service like Tenso. I like AmiAmi, but it's hard to catch the plates sometimes. PlayAsia tends to be more pricey, so sometimes you're better off just looking on eBay if your last resort is PlayAsia.
For N3DSXL and N3DS
Charms: Basically the same as the above. Many options around Etsy, just search what you want up. Up to your discretion. :)
Overall
Yeah, I'm a HORI fan. Their products have been solid for me, so I have no qualms with them. I just wish more of their products would appear in NA so shipping times would be shorter, but I think the wait times have been worth it anyway.
I can't help myself when it comes to Disney, it makes me super happy a lot of people in this sub share my intense love for it!
When you wish upon a star!
Narrowing down my favorites is hard! My favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid. When I was a kid, I used to wish with all of my might that I would be a mermaid, on dandelions, wishing wells, shooting stars, and eyelashes. I also really love Princess and the Frog, Aladdin, Up, Tangled, Frozen, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, The Haunted Mansion movie (the one with Eddie Murphy if it counts! And Pirates for that matter too!) and Monsters Inc. I know I might as well have listed them all!
Friend Like Me is my all time favorite Disney song! My dad would sing Disney songs with me a lot, and his favorite is Aladdin, he had the perfect voice to mimic Genie and now it's my favorite.
Definitely would like this
Pretty much any starter kit is just cheap crap. I'd advise you to just spend a little extra and buy quality.
Styli. Basically the only spare bulk pack available at the moment, hence the long shipping wait.
Car charger I would instead buy either a portable power bank and 3DS USB cable or a USB car charger like this and a 3DS USB cable. A power bank would be a good bit more expensive but is really nice to have if you have a lot of electronics you bring with you. Here's a pretty good one.
Great card case holder.
Budget but good carrying cases: 1, 2, 3, 4.
Yes, its more expensive to go this route. But I promise you that you will be happy you did. I bought those crappy starter kits for my GBC, GBA, and DS. The stuff was low quality and generally just doesn't last. I bought stuff for my 3DS similar to what I've linked here and have been much happier with the quality and make
Super happy birthday to you! I hope it's a great one.
For me, I like having both, digital for games I know I'm going to play for a long time, want to come back to later, or generally just expect to always want to be available (monster hunter, pokemon, probably disgaea) but then carts for everything else. I also never plan on carrying around my switch without a carrying case, and it looks like every case so far has room for several carts, or even a card case. With my 3ds, I have a case that holds 12 game carts and is pretty small, it fits right in the carrying case with my 3ds, so I don't ever have to worry about it. I expect cases like that to come around for the switch as well (the one I use is basically https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS except just 1 row, not 2 but I can't find it anymore) and those fit inside system carrying cases pretty easily
https://www.amazon.com/Technoskin-Carrying-Holders-Charger-Lifetime-Guarantee/dp/B00XMM6L8S/ref=sr_1_17?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1480801232&sr=1-17&keywords=3ds%2Bgame%2Bcase&th=1
Not exactly what you were asking for, but this one seems pretty good. Separate compartment for a 3DS, separate compartment for a charger, space for 12 games and two styli. You can probably fit a few more games too if you double them by space or get a more flexible game card case not made of bulky plastic (Penguin United used to have some, but they're apparently out of stock).
Alternatively, Hori is going to launch a Pokemon trio of cases that seems like it'll carry a lot, but that hasn't come out yet and doesn't have a lot of details. Here's the link anyway:
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Nintendo-Pokemon-Articuno-Travel-Pouch/dp/B01MYPX5JT/ref=sr_1_34?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1480801826&sr=1-34&keywords=3ds%2Bgame%2Bcard%2Bcase&th=1
I got the hard case so I can carry it in my purse without having to worry about scratches and it'll hold a few games, stylus, AR cards and cable cord. Only complaint I've seen on videos is there's like a 1/2" wiggle room side to side, but don't think it'll beat up too much in my purse, or can modify it with a little strip of sponge/cushion.
I also got a case for 24 games because I don't like sorting through each game box, and a lot of used stuff I got from Game Stop came in a paper sleeve.
I got an extra power cord so I don't have to keep unplugging it from room to room, but would definitely recommend a USB cable, I'm probably going to get one of those as well, but was sold out when I went looking last week.
I'm sure you can price shop - but that's what I picked up as a new 3DS XL owner!
Edit: OH!! Definitely get a top and bottom screen protector - I got the Invisible Shield or whatnot from Best Buy while I was there, I didn't want my pretty new screen scratched from all the tap tap tapping.
The clear Hori case is nice. I have the red one with my red 3ds xl, but it will keep the outside of your console safe. The Hori carrying case is nice too, but only holds 6 games (7 if you keep one in the 3ds). I have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Retro-Mario-Pouch-Nintendo-Black/dp/B00DWXUYN0/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1393959834&sr=1-1&keywords=hori+mario+case
Surprisingly it's $2 cheaper than the regular. The 3ds with the protective cover fits in this case, but it's a tight fit.
Why don't you like screen protectors? I have screen protectors on all my electronics with screens, but I follow a long process to get them on. I don't even notice my screen protectors anymore. I don't know about the circular bumpers, but I'm also worried about scratching up my bottom screen with the stylus. Good luck.
Heh, that is ridiculous.
You can get them much cheaper online.
Original 3DS XL.
10-pack of styluses on Amazon US. $5.90
5-pack of styluses on Amazon UK. £4
Original 3DS.
5-pack of what appears to be official styluses on Amazon UK. £2.99
5-pack of bootleg styluses on Amazon UK. (£3.49)
3-pack of Official Nintendo stlyuses on Amazon USA $8.99
10-pack of Bootleg styluses off Amazon USA. $6.99
You can also get bootlegs slightly cheaper off eBay, but most of them come from China so it'll take a while to come.
New 3DS.
4-pack of styluses off Amazon UK. £3.95
4-pack of styluses off eBay. $7~
I am really struggling to find N3DS styluses online in America, the only ones I could find on Amazon are these expensive Animal Crossing ones, which are like $11 each and come with a charm or something,
New 3DS XL
10-pack on Amazon UK for £2.99
10-pack of styluses on Amazon US. $6.99
All systems (although they will not fit into the stylus slot).
These big Mario, and Yoshi 2-pack styluses with charms on them Amazon UK. £2
These big-ass Pokemon ones 3-pack $9 on Amazon US.
These big-ass 3-pack on Amazon US. $5
Big ass 3-Pack of styluses on Amazon UK. £3.
The bootleg styluses work pretty much the same as the regular ones, and are much cheaper.
You can probably find bootlegs for cheaper on eBay, but most of these lists are Amazon US, or UK items, so it might be easier getting them from there idk.
No idea why I made this list, I'm just very bored. ^^^^^idontworkforamazonbtw
How can Nintendo charge £7.50 for one?!
I found a really good awesome cases on Amazon.ca.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01G3X6ZME/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Super legit case. I love how the case is secured and connected by hinges(I have two New 3DS XL and two New 3DS systems. Some hinges of the systems are more loose, there seems to always be a variance or play) But this case makes your 3DS really sturdy and protects it.
They also have it for the New 3DS XL....
EDIT: Also for pouches and traveling, just buy any 3DS case and it will fit/suffice. I use this https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01J75ZEHM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00DWXUYN0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this one for at home https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00VB0I8U2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Personally, I use this case. It looks sophisticated and more for an adult gamer, without adding to the bullets that have been aiming right at my wallet lately. Fits into my purse and just looks like a planner/contact book that used to be popular back before everything went in phones. However, it has a magnetic closure and my old XL has a dead pixel. I doubt the magnets were strong enough to cause it, but just in case, I snagged this Pull&Go Folio on eBay. It's a case I've wanted for a long while, but they stopped making them by the time I bought my XL. (And yes, it's supposed to fit the XL just fine -- so it should hopefully fit the nXL just fine as well.)
The charging cradle is great, unfortunately it leaves you unable to put a case on the new 3DS. If you want to protect it from scratches, you can use a skin. There are clear skins if you want to preserve the look of your 3DS. If you want to change things up a bit, you could buy a skin with a design, or design your own. I made this one at decalgirl.com. If you don't want a full skin, there are some cool decals to be found on ebay and etsy.
If you want a pouch, most made for the older 3ds XL will fit the new one. There are simple ones like this from Hori. It is currently available in all black or with various graphics (Zelda, Mario, NES controller), and it also has room for 6 game cartridges. If you want something fancier, there is the popular city slicker and gear pouch pro from sfbags, or you could get something custom from etsy.
As for screen protectors, the new 3ds xl has the same size screens as the older model, so any screen protectors that fit the old xl will work.
I bought the Skinomi Full Body Screen Protector for my 3DS. I read a lot of the reviews and heard mostly positive stuff. A very small number of people claimed that it could damage the 3DS, but from my experience, possible damage is not an issue. Although application was tedious because of a lack of a diagram, all of the panels applied evenly and without much issue. Now my entire 3DS is protected and has a nice light sheen to it.
If you just care about the screens, then there's also a Skinomi variant that just has the protectors for the screens. A lot of people like the HORI protectors too, although personally I can't say whether or not they are good. Hope this helps, and I hope you find what you are looking for.
I'm getting a New 3DS XL for X-mas so I was in the same boat as you, on google/reddit/amazon/youtube I was looking to see what I should get. Here's what I ultimately decided on:
And of course charger, usb charger, and a plethora of games.
Edit: Typos 'n stuff.
I recommend this case I have it and it is just amazing. All my games fit perfectly and can easily be put in and taken out (unlike the gamestop one which is a big square 2x2).
This is my favorite case for the 3DS XL, says it's for the DSi XL so you can get it really cheap and fits the system and games perfectly. The "leather" actually feels surprisingly nice, one of the better feeling fakes for sure. Inside is your typical soft case material. It's thinner than many of the zipper designs and probably protects a little less, but if you're throwing it in a bag the size is great.
Late to the party but I recently bought this case for my girlfriend. Really dig it. Snug fit for my n3ds xl with a clear Hori protector on it, but it can still hold games and the 3ds with ease. Tons of room for her n3ds (not xl) with a clear Hori protector on it.
That case definitely seems rugged but a bit too bulky for the bags I use to travel when I'm out, but definitely looks like a good choice for a carrying case.
I used to use this DSi XL Leather Case and it worked really well and was compact, I only stopped using it because I just made backups of my games onto my 3DS so I didn't have a need to have a carrying case.
HORI makes some pretty cool cases. I just picked up this retro 8-bit Zelda case a couple of months ago. I love it and recommend it to everyone. They even make a Mario and Luigi variation. All of them have space for six games and an extra stylus slot.
I imported this Hori 3DS Case. It fits perfectly, and holds 3 games. The material feels nice, and it is small enough to fit in a small purse.
When I want to carry more games and an extra stylus, I use the Retro Mario Case. It has a strap to keep the console secure, holds 6 games, and a long stylus.
Since you do own a lot of physical games and like them, consider this case!
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498069243&sr=8-3&keywords=nintendo+3ds+game+case
I just got one it's pretty small and even holds regular DS cartridges
welcome aboard, you have a nice set of games
Ooooooh that one! I got it on Amazon also. It's actually a Dsi XL case but it fits the 3DS XL perfectly. Even with the clear Hori duraflex protector. Here you go.
This carrying case
And this charging cable
The charging cable can use any usb power source and fits nicely into the case. It's great, especially if you already have a bunch of phone chargers around. Streamline things a bit. The case will also fit some earbuds and 8 games. I tried to find the smallest possible case that fits a 3DS, charger, earphones, and games. This case will fit an XL or regular size but it's really not that big. Also, that cable comes with a microfiber cloth as an added bonus.
Yeah, I'm not really sure about how popular the emulation scene is now for the DS and how easy it is to get the R4 cards for it. She might enjoy having the actual carts though for her collection versus the ROM method, though of course the emulation method is cheaper.
If you do go the physical game route, you could get this holder that can hold up to 24 games. Even though it says 3DS it holds DS games too since they're practically the same design. It's what I use for my collection of DS and 3DS games and it works well.
Which version of 3ds do you have? If you have an original version of the 3ds or 3ds XL I would suggest the claw pad pro I linked to. It puts an additional Circle pad a little below the L button on the system. Gives you have claw feelings and is way more comfortable at the same time.
I honestly have considered buying an OG 3DS again so I can use it with my American release monster hunter games.Though due to time since release they are getting a bit more spendy.... but it is amazing.
edit: Also could try just the normal Circle Pad Pro. 3DS XL OG 3DS
You can get a cartridge case on Amazon for like $10
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416988554&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+cartridge+case
And a carrying case to put your console in for like $8
http://www.amazon.com/Carrying-Nintendo-DSi-DS-Lite-3DS/dp/B0024X0IHG/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416988655&sr=8-3-spell&keywords=3ds+carryingcase
This is what I use. It fits a 3ds xl, game case and a charger in the main compartment. It also has a few zipper pockets that can fit smaller objects like a screen wipe or a few extra stylus.
I purchased this case and it's served me well so far. I don't have a huge library of games, but everything fits in there safely and snugly - it also comes with a screen protector which is extremely helpful.
I use a Hori clear duraflexi NN3DS case with my Majora's Mask 3DS, and I keep it in Hori's retro Zelda zipper case. The duraflexi slips on and off real easy and cleans really easy, and it shows off the MM paint job really well. I also got a Hori screen protector, and if it gets scratched too much I just replace it; doesn't leave any residue. Hori makes good shit.

I got a leather one for 12 bucks off amazon a couple months ago. It looks great and is holding up wonderfully. http://www.amazon.com/3DS-Leather-holds-Cartridge-Nintendo-DS/dp/B003QWYX8E/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1396207513&sr=1-1&keywords=3ds+leather
1. I opted for a pouch instead of a case. So I got this one. It has padding in the inside making it super protective. I believe you can fit a charger but a USB charging cable + slim power bank will work better for this specific case.
3.The stylus sizes for the N3DS and N3DSXL differ from each other in size but not design. According to amiami.com these fits into the New 3DS LL/XL designated stylus slot and they are extendable/telescopic.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XMM6L8S?psc=1
Seems like it might hold the regular 3DS a bit better. Not as many games, but you could probably get something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PTYXVZ8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3F3WC2XXCSM1P) and fit more games in it.
That's... so weird. Just keep the cartridge. It has resale value. You never have to worry about being unable to play it.
I say just get a nice game case. I got this one from Amazon recently for my growing collection.
Yeah, there are. Although that one is ridiculously expensive, i got mine for $25.00 at toysRus a few years back so i could play animal crossing with my friends (this was before DSi). If you search Ebay im sure you could get one, or even if you go searching around at best buy or walmart you might be able to get one.
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B004ZES6B2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got it from Amazon directly but looks like they are being sold new by other sellers now. A few are fulfilled by amazon.
I like the HORI ones, like this one. They fit 24 games, have a nice form, and are sturdy enough for what they're meant to do.
From what I've read just about any case meant for the 3DS XL/LL will hold a 3DS and its CPP.
edit: It is very curious that the only specifically stated CPP & 3DS case I can find is for the XL. Its pricey too.
edit: Well after a little more looking around I found this. One of the reviews explicitly states that it can be modded to fit a 3ds with the CPP. It's a nice price too!
I feel like it would be best to get things like this for Switch and this for 3ds and just put it in a generic backpack/messenger bag/purse/whatever.
^Very good point; I wanted to mention this as well but forgot.
The Club Nintendo case is nice though I would recommend http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS if extra dollars can be spared. More compact!
I have this one:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B004K6LQAS/ref=twister_B004SLTGF2?_encoding=UTF8&th=1
There are cheaper variants, but I can't speak for how effective they are. This one holds cartridges very firm into place so they don't fall out ever, while still being easy to take out from the sides.
This. If you wanna game a bit while you stroll on the treadmill for some post-workout cool-down that's ok.
I've never understood the people that go to the gym and spend the whole time on treadmills, cycles, elliptical.
If you wanna change your body, the free weight area is where you want to be. Get whatever music works for you, and get your head in the game.
That said if you want to keep your 3ds safe, my recommendation would be something from HORI
I got my NN3DS XL at the end of March for my 23rd birthday, and it still looks as good as new. Absolutely no marks or scratches, etc. It's had screen protectors since pretty much day 1, and this case protects the shell. I also keep it in this case when not in use. I use a microfiber cloth to clean the screens when I change the screen protectors (only done that once so far).
Cases like this will totally fit:
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Retro-Zelda-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo/dp/B00ND0EBP4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422474932&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+xl+link+case
Cases that fit over your 3ds while you use it, like the HORI TPU cases, will obviously not fit. There is a new version of them coming out though.
I don't have a better recommendation than the other link for a collection that large. But I can say, don't buy those 8 or 16 game cases that are available at Best Buy or Target. They're a huge pain in the ass to get the cartridges in and out of. The elastic band type that you slide the cartridge into are much easier to manage. The only snap in type that seems to work well is the official HORI 24 game case. I have a couple of those for storing stuff long term. Games I actively play are in the elastic style holders.
Another advantage of the elastics- they also hold DS and Switch and Vita too.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS
Wash hands before playing, don't eat while you play, keep it in a hard pouch/case, use a screen protector, clean using a microfiber cloth, don't do stupid stuff like jam a coin into the circle pad to hatch eggs in pokemon.
For example, I use these for pouch / cloth / screen protector: https://smile.amazon.com/HORI-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo-NEW-3DS/dp/B00RZ7TC82
cloth: https://smile.amazon.com/Zeiss-Jumbo-Microfiber-Lens-Cloth/dp/B008PNNY02
screen protector: https://smile.amazon.com/HORI-Screen-Protective-Filter-Nintendo-NEW/dp/B00RZ7T8TK
edit - to add to this, I personally wrap my 3ds in the microfiber cloth before putting it in the pouch
The preview images have a little plastic insert in the steelbook that has space for two of the cartridges. I'm betting it's just the steelbook without any other game case, but I could be wrong.
If you want to play it safe, you could get one of those cartridge cases: https://smile.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS
or get the games individually at $32 each. Or, give your friend the steelbook.
Just a suggestion... I just recently bought this one. It holds the game tight and is pretty nice and compact. I do wish I would have gotten the case from clubnintendo, but don't have the coins for it either. It isn't available anywhere else. Haven't been able to find it on eBay either.
The only thing I am hoping, is that with it all being discontinued, they'll some how end up on their site for regular ordering.
I received the Mario Luigi model last week. Just finished downloading and updating Pokemon X from the promotion. Couldn't decide between the 2 and did the eeny meeny miny mo..
Ordered this case last night. I have a similar solution for my GBA. I have a bigger original GB case that holds all my accessories and games, and an inner smaller case to house the GBA. I was going to re-purpose that case, but as you can see it is 20+ years old, dirty and well, time for a new case. I am still going to replace the smaller inner case, but need to see how much room I have to play with. =)
I believe it's this one - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004K6LQAS?cache=198dcc535e585ce1babde1094dc2bf91&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1406081290&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1
It's a great case and it does the job. Holds 3DS and DS games securely and they're not difficult to remove. But after seeing those cool club nintendo cases I want one.
And if you're asking about the console case, it's this one - http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Mario-Universal-Travel-Case-Nintendo-DS-DSi-3DS-3DS-XL-Nintendo-3DS/30914324?type=search
My XL fits pretty snug in it and it holds up to 8 games. I like it, but I'll probably purchase a case that's more plain and less bulky down the road.
The Hori Line is fantastic. There are mario/zelda themed ones out as well.
I highly recommend.
yeah i feel the same way as you, theres this, i purchased it for my wii u, and its pretty easy to apply, especially with the sollution they give you, i will buy this one once the zelda 3ds xl releases
http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Nintendo-Protector-Protective-ds/dp/B008JHH5RC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382149220&sr=8-1&keywords=skinomi+3ds+xl
That's interesting. Looks like you just need an action replay dsi or a flash cart. If anyone is interested amazon has the action replay for $30: https://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-DSi-Nintendo-DS/dp/B002N73PEQ
Edit: The star force series isn't on the supported list so it may not work: https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator/wiki/Compatibility
I have a Hori game case that holds 24 of 'em. Amazon page here, though it's also available in other colors (I have an entirely translucent one).
Good quality, should last a long time if used properly (don't just push the cartridge in from the top, slide it in pushing against the inner tab. It has a slight amount of give to it to prevent breakage).
I also have one of those same cheap Chinese ones and you're right - the tabs on those break easily.
It's not 4.44, but 4.41 is close and I would really like to play my GBASP
http://www.amazon.com/DS-Advance-Rapid-Travel-Charger-Nintendo/dp/B000VBB69M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373029381&sr=8-1&keywords=gba+charger
That is interesting. Since it fits 2 3DSXL, do you think it'll fit a normal 3DS + something like this? That would be very convenient for me.
> You could also try just taking one game in the system around rather then all the cartridges.
Yeah, that's what I'm doing now, but it sucks when I whip it out and find I had the wrong game in there. I was thinking maybe a separate case that is also pocketable... or I usually have my messenger bag with me, as well, so it could be put in there with ease as well. Just shoving 4 or 5 different 3DS cases in there is not really an option.
I was thinking of getting this: https://club.nintendo.com/rewards-details/a/44002.do This way it'll take the place of 1 case, rather than 1 per game, and still be fairly portable.
edit: 10 coins short of the case. :\
double edit: woo, found a game I hadn't registered yet. I think this is definitely a good way to go, considering it's basically free.
triple edit: Orrrr, spend only $10 to get a bigger case and use the coins to buy games and whatnot.... ugh, this is why I posted here in the first place. I just don't know what's good.
I keep all my DS games in a couple cases like these. I have all the original cases/artwork/manuals/inserts just stored in totes in the basement, but still want easy access to the games.
To be honest, I like this one better (though it's not MM specific)
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Retro-Zelda-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo/dp/B00ND0EBP4
I'm surprised either can still be found after the MMN3DSXL situation...
I have that exact same style for my old NDS (before the 3DS) games. Oh the amount of times I've nearly cut myself on it since none of the sides give much... The old NDS style cases of the same design that I have have the opposite issue where it's hard as balls to get them in, and difficult to get them out without being afraid you're going to snap the gamecard!
If you can't afford to get a different case atm, the only tip I can give is to first slide in the side of the card to the outer side wall under the hook and then try to lever the middle side into the other clip. Hopefully the outer wall of plastic will give just enough to allow you to get the game card in. Just... Don't be a total dingus like me and draw blood on the hook when the card finally snaps in hard...
If you can afford to get a different game case, I heartily recommend the case that u/trippybrii linked: the HORI 24 game card case. That one has MUCH more flexible tabs in the middle so the best way to get the games in and out is to instead angle the game card into the MIDDLE of the page under the hook, then press sideways against the middle of the page into the hook and lever the game in under the outer hook and release. It's much easier to access the games!
Yep http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005LUUWL6?pc_redir=1405358353&robot_redir=1
And people will upload Pokemon to Poke Bank, use AR to backup there save before the upload and then restore the backup and then pull the Pokemon down from the bank.
Here's a similar case I have that fits my N3DS XL perfectly with 3 game slots on it. Seems very well made for only 12$
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003QWYX8E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_4Yg2wbGBRW4KW
I don't know if you have a regular 3ds or an XL, but the regular sized one sells on amazon for $~10, and the LL version sells for about the same.
For anyone concerned, the japanese regular/LL cpp works exactly the same for a western handheld (the US versions are more expensive for w/e reason). I got one for my roommate, and it helped it a bit. I also particularly liked it as a grip, not just an extra stick.
I bought a Monster Hunter 4 case way back when in anticipation. The prices have sky rocketed a bit, but it is still a solid case. this case worked fairly well for me as well and it is fairly cheap. I am a really into leather.
I am fond of this one note that this is the DS one not the 3DS one. The 3DS one only supports the smaller systems but the DS one has a foam insert that you can take out to accommodate for the DSiXL/3DSXL. This one is nice because you have the big case say if you go on a trip and the small pull out pouch for just the system and a couple games for more portability.
Hi there! I bought the Official dsxl travel case here
It's for the regular dsxl but its perfect for the 3dsxl.
Looks like I miscounted, I actually have 22.
Unfortuantely, the ones on Club Nintendo are out of stock.
I came across this one on amazon. Its seems like a solid case.
This is currently my top choice, so if anyone has it and would like to weight in, I would really appreciate it.
Either of these should help with your hand cramping
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MKN3YE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005TESKW2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01
Ooooh that's nice. I ended up getting https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XMM6L8S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hopefully I won't regret it.
I don't personally own it because I only have 2 loose cartridges, but I hear great things about this case.
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS
That case was based on this officially licensed case by Hori: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451868386&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+3ds+game+case
I have both the original and the knock-off, and the original has all the cards rightside-up, and it has a removable clip for your sd card. The original is also considerably more durable, since my knock-off is on its last legs after a couple of desk-height falls.
Couldn't you buy a charger for your old DS? Pretty sure you could get one on amazon or somewhere else fairly cheap.
I'll keep that in mind!
This is actually the case I was looking at getting:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QWYX8E/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1AQ55KGQMAZA0DCV8TC4&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop
I have one already for my current 3DS XL and I love the look of it and it has a little bit of extra space on the sides so I think it might actually end up working!
This one by HORI!
I've had one for four years and it's been really great to me.
I use this! It works like a charm.
Luigi 3ds xl Hori case
Holds 6 games, has a strap to hold the 3ds in place, and will fit a 3ds with a clear shell. There are other styles, too, such as zelda.
Original LoZ Hori case
I have THIS on my Zelda edition 3DSXL. It's a very thick vinyl and stays on the 3DS really well. It was a pain to get the corners done but well worth it. For less than $20, you can't go wrong.
They are $17 at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ND0EBP4/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1425343859&sr=8-1-spell
It is OOS right now, but I ordered mine when it was OOS and got it within two weeks. They are really nice.
I use this case for my XL. I keep it in my back pocket. Not oversized pockets, feels heavy but it keeps it cushioned and holds 3 games, which means I can have 4 on hand.
Amazon has a 3 pack of officially licensed extendable styluses for 9$
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004NRS8EG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1519395981&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=3ds+stylus&dpPl=1&dpID=41Guz1aFb%2BL&ref=plSrch
I find amazon reliable and they have good customer service. You might be able to find compatable matches at local game stores too.
Hestia Goods Case and Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch - Deluxe Hard Shell Travel Carrying Case, Hard Pouch Case for Nintendo Switch Console & Accessories, Streak Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074DVJJWB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ETD8BbTE4P5TG
I fit the switch w joycons, bunch of games, a big power bank that can charge the switch three times cables for switch and power bank, plus them two attachments that fit the joycons
Are you referring to this? I was looking at that case, I think its minimal but still nicely styled. Does it work well for you? No issues?
I ordered this. I really liked the Skinomi skin for my phone, so I thought I would give the full 3DS skin a shot :P.
It isn't thick like a traditional case; it is a clear plastic protector that is applied to the whole body of the device. The application method definitely keeps bubbles to a minimum/ non existent (which I had problems with when applying other similar screen protectors/ skins).
nintendo products do not play nice with the RPI wireless. I believe the only work around is a USB wifi adapter-ish thing ($99 from nintendo, not sure if there is a cheaper option http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Wi-Fi-USB-Connector/dp/B000MXMNG4).
Not sure if its really allowed because it acts like a mini wireless router... I think it should be ok because the signal strength is so weak
This is what I have for my 3DSXL. I love it http://amzn.com/B003QWYX8E
I've been using this for months and I love how portable it is
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462408829&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+3ds+game+case
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Retro-Zelda-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo/dp/B00ND0EBP4 I have this one and I love it if toy look in the related items they have more of Zelda isn't your thing.
Nintendo has a lot of "official products" that they don't make, but they license other companies to make. For example, these are official Nintendo game cases too.
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Game-Card-Case-24/dp/B004K6LQAS
As for the Club Nintendo rewards game cases, they're not available right now. People sell them on eBay for around $20-25.
The Hori card cases are great. I've got two.
I got this one recently and it's great - holds 8 games and 2 styli http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo-NEW-3DS/dp/B00RZ7TC82/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463668041&sr=8-2&keywords=3ds+case+hori
Are we talking about the same thing?
This Skinomi skin does not cover corners.
This one partially covers corners, but still leaves big gaps on the edges.
It's also far easier to do partial-corners when you're doing simple patterns, not actual images.
Hori as a company is one of the few I feel put forth "Nintendo Quality" in their product so buy with confidence, I haven't been burned on any product I ever bought from them. I currently have my Link Between Worlds XL housed in this, which is housed in this and I recommend them both. My only complaint about the pouch is it's specifically designed to house the system and like 6 games, but there's no room for a charger. If they made a new model that could fit one though, I'd buy it.
I use an [action replay] (http://www.amazon.com/Datel-Action-Replay-System-DS-Nintendo/dp/B005LUUWL6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404927169&sr=8-2&keywords=action+replay). It was a little trouble to track down the right version of the program to manage the cheats because their site is terrible, but I can give you that. Also you have to manually install the driver but it isn't as much trouble as it sounds and once you get the program installed it works perfectly. I've heard of R4 but I don't know anything about that.
I have this case and I really like it. It does the job well, and it's REALLY cheap.
I got the retro Mario Hard Pouch from Hori and I'm in love with it. On Amazon
I‘ve had this problem. There are a lot of variations of the DS Action Replay. Only the one with the blue label works on the 3ds but those are insanely expensive and rare now.
https://www.amazon.com/Datel-Action-Replay-System-DS-Nintendo/dp/B005LUUWL6
You probably have an older version (red or yellow label) which do not work on the 3ds.
I got one of the blue ones for really cheap in 2015 but for now I recommend just getting a cheap DS system if you want to use codes.
Might I suggest you get this
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Retro-Zelda-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo/dp/B00ND0EBP4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412318617&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+zelda
And get the TPU clear casing as well while at it.
Yes nintendo uk only ships to uk , same with nintendo of other countries.
I found it in Amazon Germany 8 eur plus 15 eur international shipping , expensive!.
As WillExis said, the GameShark of the DS is called Action Replay. This is the one I bought after my first one broke, which I still have and it works well enough. The company kind of sucks at making things fit perfectly in the DS, so it wobbles a bit, and the UI can be annoying, but it will do everything you need it to. I always got my AR codes off of Super Cheats ages ago, but you should be able to find whatever you want with a Google Search.
Also, if you do hack Pokemon, be careful of where you trade them (if you transfer them to gen VI/VII) because on some subreddits they're not allowed to be traded.
How hard of a hardshell are you looking for? I bought Hori Hard Pouch case for my New 3DS XL off Amazon and I've been quite impressed by it.
You'll need a DS AC. Not a Powersave, Powersave is compatible with newer Pokemon games.
I have this one or a very similar one
https://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-DSi-Nintendo-DS/dp/B002N73PEQ
They are pretty expensive. I remember paying 25$ When it came out. Wouldn't bother purchasing one just to trigger a Darkrai event.
If you're in Europe, like me, you can order it on Amazon.de.
I see it's available on Amazon.com as well.
That sounds like the one that looked just like the one I got from best buy:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-go-case-for-nintendo-3ds-3ds-xl-black/3623019.p?id=1219092579144&skuId=3623019
this one:
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo-NEW-3DS/dp/B00RZ7TC82/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1425443898&sr=1-3&keywords=new+3ds+xl+hori
but it looks like there are a few differences - 3 more games, one strap vs 2. Does it feel kind of hard to get it out and is it a little difficult to zip up with it in? maybe that 10 dollars difference is worth it.
I have a N3DSXL and use This Case... understandably you probably wont want link but my SO has the pikachu version... anyways I can fit my N3DSXL, 6 carts, and my USB wire in the case nicely... though I have a travel Port in my backpack at all time for charging cell phones, ipads, and my 3ds when needed
Edit: oops... didnt mean for the bot to show up
I need a super thin wall USB charger. Anyone know of a good one?
I have a carrying case for my new 3ds but all the wall USB chargers i have are too wide.
case- http://www.amazon.com/3DS-Case-Accessories-Investment-Guarantee-Nintendo/dp/B00PXLNYF4/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t

Amazon Italy has that same item unrestricted as sold-by-Amazon, in case it helps: https://www.amazon.it/dp/B004ZES6B2/
2:20 and link thanks!
this one:
amazon link
it's a perfect fit, but doesn't have any extra space for cables or chargers if that's something you need.
If you're planning on getting more games, [this] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K6LQAS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00) is my favorite way to store them! :) I've tried several, and this one doesn't seem to hold my cartridges tightly enough to damage them.
I don't know how much bigger it would have been, but it's already pushing portability for a handheld as it is with the Joy-Cons included.
It's not that digital media isn't popular, it's that I don't see the inconvenience of carrying a game seperately when compared to having a lighter slimmer handheld. I keep my 3ds games in one of These and it's worked out very well.
There's a clear skin available too!

If you don't mind animal crossing, HORI made a nice pouch for the 3DS
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Animal-Crossing-Soft-Pouch-Nintendo/dp/B01BYGUZK8
this is the one i got. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035LBLV8/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have the 6 game version of this.
Really like Hori. Quality stuff.
I use this one and really like it. It fits my XL, has a spot for a charger and 12 game slots. But I think it's unlikely for there to be many cases that only fit regular N3DS, especially since they would be losing a lot of potential money from people with XLs whereas if they made it a bit bigger they could get both markets.
I didnt care for that one to be honest. I went with this one.
High price aside... do these things still work with the 3DS?
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Wi-Fi-USB-Connector/dp/B000MXMNG4
I remember when I was in college back in 2004 I needed to buy one of these to get my DS connected to WiFi since it was not an authorized device or something like that.
Edit: looks like it does not work with the New 3DS Lineup, but works with the old ones

http://www.amazon.com/DS-Advance-Rapid-Travel-Charger-Nintendo/dp/B000VBB69M looks like they also sell a replacement battery. Order in 21 hours and you can have both by saturday.
You can something like this:

There are plenty of other different kinds of games cases to choose from though
just got this technoskin this weekend, and i like it.
I stumbled upon this case that holds 11 games on Amazon! It costs a little less than $20 without shipping! http://www.amazon.com/DS-Universal-Pull-Go-Folio-Nintendo/dp/B004KPIWZ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418001300&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+xl+universal+folio
I keep my most played games in my 3DS case.
The rest I just keep loose with my DS games in a small canvas zipper bag like the kind a construction worker would keep nails or screws in attached to their tool belt.
That bag usually sits in my backpack, so I'm not too worried about them getting too jostled. I'm only talking 10 games total here, most of mine are digital. It's just too darn convenient.
Or you can get one of these and protect the 3DS along with pockets for 6 carts.
Hori Retro Zelda Hard Pouch for New 3DS XL and Nintendo 3DS XL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ND0EBP4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_RpS2wbMYDQXYY
I got this black leather one. It seals with magnets and holds three cartridges, which, if you're doing it right, you won't ever need more than that. ;)
Amazon carries it for the price listed on Hori's website! Here's the link.
Well, I heard that you can also use Nintendo's USB Wifi connector thingy™ to connect, but you may also consider a cheaper alternative.
One of these?:
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Wi-Fi-USB-Connector/dp/B000MXMNG4
Gamestop (yeah, yeah, I know, I know) has them used sometimes.
Ask the kid at the counter. Usually they can check inventory at surrounding stores too. They are getting hard to find though.
I have the Hori gamecase, and it seems fine to me.
It's the PDP Universal Pull and Go Folio, and they are expensive. I got one of the last ones from the pdp store at 19.99, and I saw the black ones on amazon earlier for around 26 shipped, so if you look you might be able to find them. It holds 29 games.
Amazon, if you'll be in one place long enough:
https://www.amazon.es/Nintendo-3DS-XL-Adaptador-corriente/dp/B004ZES6B2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496693490&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+charger
Or see if any game shops have a Car charger / accessory set that includes a USB charger lead, and use that with your phone charger / laptop / etc
You also might find hotel bathrooms have 110v two pin shaver charger sockets in the bathrooms, which should work (assuming you haven't already burnt out your US charger by feeding it 220v)
I got this one https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo-NEW-3DS/dp/B00RZ7TC82/ref=sr_1_12?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1472936435&sr=1-12&keywords=hori+case
Holds my N3DS with a little room but the strap prevents any movement.
If you do still want to use it

I usually have my N3DS XL inside a Hori Retro Mario Hard Pouch. I can't complain at all about it.

$8 Prime available.
You could pick up the Nintendo 3DS Wifi Adapter if you have a connected PC nearby:
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Wi-Fi-USB-Connector/dp/B000MXMNG4
You could get one of these
Are you taking about this thing?
Nintendo DS systems are fishy about wireless networks. I'd suggest going over to /r/techsupport or a related subreddit, considering this is more about networking than pokemon. I don't know if they still exist, but there's a device called a Wireless USB adapter or something. You plug it into a USB port and it connects to the internet through your computer.
You sir are only $4 away from gaming bliss.

There's 1 available from Amazon's Canada website, but it looks to be a little pricier.
Like this
Or there's this one
I've got this one
I too use a combo of a wallet and game case.

I went with a smaller 6 game case so that it would not be bulky in my pocket :D
Probably this
I have this and it holds 6 games
Here you go the only one you need!

I use a 24 game Hori case for mine. I haven't had any issues with it after about nine months.

It's literally called a 3DS Game Case.
Nintendo 3DS Game Card Case 24 - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004K6LQAS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3xtYAbVQ3E35B
I use the Hori case, which holds 24. Fits DS and 3DS and comes with one little piece of plastic that holds an SD card. That's removable though. They have a couple of colors and also make them for Switch games. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004K6LQAS/
You need one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Datel-Action-Replay-System-Nintendo/dp/B005LUUWL6
That's the one I've got. But I i assume any DS one would be the same.
I haven't used one on 3ds or with Monster Hunter, but an Action Replay cart is probably what you're looking for.
Amazon UK link
Amazon says there is one.
There's also a thing from the Codejunkies site about software updates to get around Nintendo patches.
i use http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi%C2%AE-TechSkin-Definition-Anti-Bubble-Replacement-ds/dp/B008JHH5RC/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1395297348&sr=8-10&keywords=3ds+protective+skin with http://www.amazon.com/Clear-cover-Nintendo-official-licensed-products/dp/B008YAALT8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395297634&sr=8-2&keywords=3ds+xl+hori+case

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019IFIJW8/
It can output power and input at the same time (charge and discharge simultaneously). It can use type c or micro usb for charging. It can output 3a via type c. For a power bank, it has everything you need
And for a case I'll get one very similar to this one because it is not overly bulky, but still very sturdy.

How do you think this will do?

Trying to keep it pristine.
