I'm going to copy and paste a comment I made on another post, maybe it will relate to you.

> I just bought a Switch last week and over the week bought BOTW, MM2, and MK8. I was torn between a PS4 and a Switch, but have been so happy with my decision.

>What I wanted to mention though, is how easy it is to get your X1 or PS4 controllers to work on the Switch. I'm not crazy about the joycons, and it was eating me up thinking I had to spend $89.99(cdn) to get a second controller (pro) so my friends and family could play when they are over.

>So i started looking for 3rd party controllers, which lead me to finding 8bitdo, which is a company that makes controllers across all gens of consoles, as well as lots of adapters and other gaming things.

>I bought this adapter for $25 and it will let you use your ps4, xbox, or other controllers on the Switch.

>This was perfect since I alread had two PS4 controllers for my PC. Once the adapter showed up the same day (thanks Amazon) it was as simple as plugging the USB adapter directly into the Switch, and hitting pair on the adapter, then the PS and share button on the controller, and boom, it worked just like that.

>Full rumble, full motion controls, and I get to keep using my favourite controllers on the Switch, with seemingly no compromises. :).

Long story short, if you already have controllers laying around that you like, you can save money by just getting an adapter for them. Once you do the super easy setup, it just works like a Switch controller with no more steps, so it doesn't get confusing. I see someone below recommend 8bitdo's version of the pro controller, and based on my experience with the company, that is probably a good purchase too.

edit: This is the link to the adapter. The quote didn't carry over the link.

One important thing to mention, I believe the adapter only works in docked mode, so there is a compromise. Though if you're playing handheld you likely have the joy cons attached anyway.

I just recently did a lot of research myself on the Switch and the options. This is what I have to say:

With the Lites, each would have "their own" and could play at the same time.
With Nintendo Family, there will be elements of game sharing available, but you will still be buying mult copies of games at times.

Just one Switch Red box, will limit them to playing together. With a WiiU and the 2 3DS's, they will have options, although the switch is the cooler new thing, and they will want more facetime with that.

One thing to mention is, the Switch Red Box will come with a dock to hook up to a TV. While the Lite's do not. Also, I would recommend researching 3rd party docks. I did recently and with some of the results, I only feel comfortable with the Nintendo Dock. Which is another $100 I think.

Sidenote: You might look at this guy 8Bitdo This plugs into the switch and allows you to use an existing PS4 controller (or xbone with BT) with your switch. They also make 3rd party controllers as well. Since you're a PS4 dad, you might have an extra, and if you want to join in on some SMASHBROTHERS!!! you can use your own controller and feel comfortable. (also recommend Breath of the Wild...but you might take over your kids new Switch once you try it)

Also to clarify, I don't have a Switch yet; hoping I can hold out for Black Friday and get a good deal (if there are any) on the console. Got a friend that loaned us his to try...yeah, its nice. You might buy a Switch Red Box, 8BitDo, and a Switch Lite....so you have two Switch's for the kids, and well....the Red Box for you/kids to share. I am a PC gamer and the Switch has me pumped to try it out/play some games on it.

u/pxlsquid · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

i got both too, and my switch pro controller just collects dust. honestly never thought i would prefer a third party controller to a first party one but here we are. so much stuff i play on switch warrants a good d-pad and that $70 pro controller just ain't got it.

another suggestion is that if you have and prefer something like a ps4 controller, you can use that with your switch. these adapters will let you use pretty much any controller with the switch. i used the Mayflash one and it works like a charm. until i got the 8bitdo using a ps4 controller to play Mario Maker 2 was the next best thing.

u/survivorofthefire · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I purchased one a couple months back. Tabletop mode is definitely included as it is compatible with joycons and all controllers the regular switch is compatible with. Handheld works the same.

I ended up trading mine in and paying the difference for a regular switch because I realized the desire to play on my monitor was outweighing the convenience of the portability. But YMMV, that was just me.

It's a good system just remember that it is completely incompatible with TV mode at all as it lacks the hardware to output video. The only game I can think off the top of my head that is out of the box incompatible with switch lite handheld mode is Super Mario Party. But all you need really is a pro controller or joycons or some sort of external controller, hope this helps.

PS. if you wish to play it in tabletop mode, absolutely buy a stand for it, I recommend HORIs USB stand

u/qwertylerqw · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I’ve never heard of that controller but 8BitDo is good for a controller with a good d-pad. I would recommend waiting for the SN30 Pro+ to come out because it’ll be much more comfortable than the current SN30 Pro

I have the wired SN30 Pro and it’s d-pad is fantastic. It’s a nice cheaper option

You can also use 8BitDo’s adapter or the MayFlash adapter to use a DS4 controller on the Switch if you already have one

u/TemptedTemplar · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

> I'm not wanting to use the bulky dock if possible. Will a third-party USB-C to HDMI converter work with the Switch?

It can work, but all un-official docks have a chance to totally fry the system or its ability to output video and accept a charge. So they arent advised. What you can do, is use a dock extension cable and run it where ever you would like, to hide or mount them in a fashion you see fit.

>Can I sell the included Joy Cons to fund the purchase a pair of Pro Controllers?

Selling the joycons is not advised. Some games require a single joycon as their only supported method of control. And there are those that dont work with the pro controller.

Games list their supported control methods on the back of their game case, and on the eShop page.

Yes, but there's a cheap and useful solution.

I bought this alongside the hard shell case, which was this one.

Works great and feels really comfortable to hold.

u/SGT3386 · 1 pointr/Switch

Someone mentioned getting Bluetooth working. I bought the below dongle and really happy with it.

Also there are plenty of great how-to videos out there on how to clean rust from a headphone jack. Typically headphone jack connectors are made from easily rustable materials like nickel, not like the other metal components in electronics. So it's pretty common issue with water.

I totally agree, I can recommend the bt adaptor from homespot:

https://www.amazon.com/HomeSpot-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Compatible-Headphones/dp/B07L9SL7ZT/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr0_2?keywords=switch+bt+adapter+genki&qid=1566201031&s=gateway&sprefix=switch+bt+adapter&sr=8-2-fkmr0

While it's definitely something Nintendo should have included, it gets the job done, works flawlessly with my Sony mdr 1000x, as well as my Jabra Elite Active 65t :)

u/syco54645 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Anyone buy one of these? I need more ports on my switch dock (want to keep my joycon charger and GC adapter plugged in. Using a USB to ethernet adapter so am out of ports. This looks like a pretty nice solution. Curious if it is safe.

If you get fed up with that like I did, there's a few adapters you could get that would make this process super easy.

I like this one from 8bitdo. Plug it in the pc, hit thee sync button on the adapter, then on the controller, and it will now be connected and seen as an Xbox controller. Works with PS3, PS4, Wii U, Switch, and Xbox Controllers (the bluetooth ones). This also lets you hook up all those controllers to a Nintendo Switch.

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Raspberry/dp/B0786JC6VW/

Mayflash also masks basically the same thing as that 8bitdo adapter. It has extra quirks like setting the mode on the adapter for the device you've plugged it into. A cool bonus for this device is you can use it with a modded Wii U. I use a Switch Pro Controller on my Wii U with this

https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Magic-NS-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B079B5KHWQ/

Mayflash also makes another device that's literally just for Wii U Pro controllers to PC and nothing else. Connects the controller as an Xbox or direct input controller.

u/Hades-Arcadius · 1 pointr/RetroPie

I know it's not the best answer, but try this http://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/ and on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Raspberry/dp/B0786JC6VW , i've been using this in conjunction with a ps4 controller to great effect, only side effect is that the controller is technically treated as a xbox controller...but functionally all the ps4 functions work perfectly so what matters under the hood :D

u/Cloudeur · 2 pointsr/gaming

Here’s a nice little USB key just for you!

8bitdo

I don’t own one myself, but a few of my friends have one and they love it!

u/Player8 · 3 pointsr/PS4

8bitdo adapter for the switch. Only works in the dock or with a usb c dongle. Like 20 bucks. I highly recommend it if you want a pro controller but don’t wanna shell out 70 bucks for it. I use my spare Xbox one controller on my switch so me and a friend can play Mario kart.

Only real downside is you can’t use the Xbox or PlayStation controller to turn the console on, so you either have to do it by hand or turn it on with the joycon then switch to the other controller.

u/fifosexapel · 2 pointsr/MarioMaker2

I love the Pro Controller, but I have heard people complain about the D-Pad. I have never had an issue with mine, but I have not played a lot D-Pad intensive games with it.

I have heard good things about the Power A controllers (both the gamecube style and the pro controller style) but I haven't used them myself. The wired ones can be found for around $25 and the wireless for $40 so they might be a good choice as a second controller if you don't want to spend too much.

I own this Gamecube adapter that lets you connect both GCN and has a Wii Classic Controller socket, which means you can connect the controllers from the mini consoles to the Switch - which I plan to do to play SMM2 levels.

I'm also considering this 8 bit do adapter that lets you connect PS4, Xbox and Wii U Pro controllers to switch, since I really like the WIi U Pro and it's just gathering dust at home.

u/poofyhairguy · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

> wired xb360 controllers

Yeah my bad you did mention that. For that you need this adapter.

Personally I think one of those third party wired controllers they sell for the Switch is a better deal. The PowerA Plus Super Mario Edition Controller will be $20 on Black Friday at Best Buy.

u/F_S_Rocks · 4 pointsr/VideoGameDealsCanada

I honestly don't recommend getting one, instead consider picking up one of these. It's an adapter that lets you pair pretty much any Bluetooth controller with the switch. Useful if you have controllers for other consoles laying around and waaaay cheaper then a pro controller. I honestly think every switch owner should have one, they're that handy.

u/Dislodged_Puma · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Here you go - just in case anyone else needs one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072LWBYDV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went with this because a typical USB-C extender cable doesn't push down properly and is prone to pop out. This was designed to keep all 3 levels in place.

Has worked flawlessly for me in the month or so I've been using it.

I wish my Skull & Co Case would dock properly so I didn't need it, but considering I could only ever get the display to pop up once in dozens of tries, I figured this is the safest bet and also keeps the heat down. It always sucks to buy more things, but this also leaves open the possibility of getting different cases maybe?

EDIT: I should add that I have opted to keep my Hori Stand out at all times and just place it on the stand when it's docked. Just seemed more preferable than dropping it on my entertainment center haha.

u/MtnDr3w · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I love my mumba grip case due to its ruggedness and comfort, though it can be challenging to remove. Luckily I have a second set of joycons and a pro controller so I never have to remove the ones attached to my console. I also use the dock extender cable so I don’t have to remove the case to dock the switch.

if you have a ps4/xbox one i would get this! It allows you too connect ps4 and xb1, ps3 and other bluetooth devices to your switch. IMO This is great especially if you already had one of those consoles since the switch controllers are 70! Good luck

u/fischy761 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

On amazon you can find USB-C adapters (which you can also use as a "travel" dock) you plug it into your Switch and it gives you a regular USB, USB-C, and HDMI ports. This is the one I use and it works great.

Edit: Additionally you can just buy a stand for the Switch on amazon for like $5 that holds up the Switch so you can have something plugged into it while you play.

u/Atlas_Man · 3 pointsr/Games

There’s adapters on amazon that work perfectly well. They do cost a little bit but it’s worth it for me cause I like playing docked with headphones at night

Here’s the one I got

Edit: it also allows for connection in handheld

Tldr: Just bought the 8 bitdo adapter linked below, I love it, can I use my synced Xbox controller to turn on the switch?

----------

So, I was here a few days ago asking about a cheap wireless controller. Instead of the controller, because I have a spare Xbox One X controller I don't use much, I ended up buying this

8Bitdo Wireless Controller Adapter for Nintendo Switch,Windows,Mac & Raspberry Pi with a OTG Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7LMM52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mQhJBbTD6A2G7

I just got it today, it works really well. My only question, is there a way for me to turn the Switch on using my Xbox controller? It's already synced up, but if the Switch is off, and I hold the power button on the Xbox controller, it looks like it turns on, but the Switch never turns on, and eventually the controller starts rumbling like it's trying to connect.

u/PokerPancake · 5 pointsr/FortniteCompetitive

No idea about other phones, but for more recent Android phones, you can use something like this (there are many variants on Amazon) to connect to a monitor.

The USB ports will allow you to directly plug in a mouse and keyboard and control the phone while it displays on a monitor.

I really want something like this to take off. As someone else already mentioned, Epic needs to follow the phone manufacturers guidelines so this res will not go away.

Get a big streamer doing this then you watch how fast we get a better FOV on non-mobile platforms.

u/PraiseDannyWoodhead · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

On the original Nintendo dock, it helps greatly to weight down that little spring-loaded plate around the USB-C port to prevent the extension cable from disconnecting. There's an extender that has a built in block to achieve that task but with any standard USB extender, anything that fits and is heavy enough will work fine. I mainly use the Best Buy dock due to the size and restricted entry angle of the original one.

u/ajbrensike · 6 pointsr/TeslaLounge

It can connect via Bluetooth, not with Tesla internal system though, but for $20 you can get a 8Bitdo dongle, and that can connect to a xbox one controller. Tested and played cuphead on the Tesla last night with this setup. Works perfectly.

I don't think a 7 year old would feel cramped on the joycons, but a pro controller is still a good investment. I'd also recommending checking this out as alternative that could save a few bucks if you have a bluetooth controller lying around or picked up a Wii U Pro controller super cheap.

> Some games play fine with it but others I just wish I could use my Xbox controller for.

Personally I really like the Nintendo Pro controller, but if you want to use your Xbox controller on the Switch I believe that's possible.

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Raspberry/dp/B07B7LMM52/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1543366959&sr=1-3&keywords=8bitdo+adapter

I've ordered one but haven't received it yet (ordered on a Cyber Monday sale for $8 now dead) so no personal experience to pass on.

u/Tyr808 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you hate the dpad, you can get a dual shock 4 (might still be on sale at Amazon) and the 8bitdo USB adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786JC6VW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_RJ3-BbAKCBXWQ).

Yes, this allows you to use the DS4 on a switch, it also allows use of motion controls. I don't know how well motion controls work on the ds4 vs the switch cons, but I've heard that this set up works flawlessly.

I personally did the dpad mod with some tape over the electrical contact points. It did slightly reduce the rate of wrong directions from rolling the dpad back and forth, but the design of the switch pro controller dpad means that it will never be as accurate as the joycons even if it's more comfortable. Rolling left right left right is almost always going to throw an up or down in the mix.

8bitdo also makes SNES looking controllers that work natively on the Switch as well. I've heard the newer models are nicer than the old ones.

Note that any of these solutions will lose HD rumble because that is exclusive to Nintendo first party controllers.

u/Tehfrag · 2 pointsr/samsung

This is the one I got works great, has USB C in to power, HDMI out obviously, and 1 USB A in for a wireless keyboard/mouse. Glad I didn't pay full price for a Dex Station as I hardly ever use it. Oh and I know it says works with the Switch... don't do that unless you like a brick.

u/Flame48 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm looking for another dock to keep at work to connect my switch to my monitors. Are there still problems with bricking with certain docks besides the official one? Does anyone have any recommendations?

I was looking on amazon and saw this one, which has pretty good reviews. Anyone know if this is any good?

Samsung 2017 TV owner here. Bought an 8BitDo off amazon and plugged it into my TV and it works like a charm. I use my PS4 controller, but the pairing process is super easy and identical. I also used a male-to-female USB extension cable to let the 8BitDo hang down in an easily accessible area so I can re-pair my controller if I end up playing PS4 and then coming back.

Link to the exact one I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786JC6VW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZFIlDb0SHTTSR

Side note: Haven’t bothered to try and look into it, but when I end remote play, I get an odd green band across the bottom 1/16th of the screen. That goes away with a power cycle and I think is just some kind of odd artifact in the UI.

u/Smitty2017 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I bought this one:

Bionik BT Audio Sync - Wireless... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THFG1GL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Works extremely well, comes with both the USB C part for handheld play AND a USB A adapter that plugs into the dock, so it can be used both ways.

Works very well with high quality audio and no audio latency issues. Absolutely love it.

I use with AirPods on the go and my Beats Studio 3 headphones at home

u/alittlebeat · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah 8bitdo has this controller adapter for only $20 if you want to use your dualshock 4 on Switch. I almost got that myself but I decided to wait until the SN30 Pro+ was released because I wanted a good proper dpad lol

u/theDreamDaddy · 11 pointsr/SwitchHacks

I personally use my PS4 controller on the Switch with the 8bitdo adapter and it works great wirelessly with rumble and motion as well. Also connects to PC. I haven’t tried it myself but the Xbox One controller should work too.

For any curious, there is also a Mayflash adapter which looks like it does basically the same as the 8bitdo one for around the same price.

u/smellslikekimchi · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I just got a Homespot bluetooth transmitter for my Switch and I love it. It lets you connect bluetooth headsets to the Switch, which isn't a feature built in for some odd reason. It's got a small form factor and 2 players can use their own headsets on it at one time. It's got a super low latency codec too if the headset supports it. $40 on Amazon.

u/Hunter2451 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This right here is the best case I've ever used. (UK link) They say that you can use it with the dock but I don't suggest relying on the ability to dock the switch. We have 3 of them and right now two of them dock but one of them doesn't. Mine feels really tight if I try to dock it so I got one of these (UK link) which eliminated the case docking issue.

EDIT: Looks like the UK link only has the switch case and not the carry case. You might be able to find one on eBay or something similar.

u/ticktak10 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Yeah I felt that too when I tried the demo on the switch. I think it is because of the offset analog sticks when compared to the playstation's controller with the analog sticks on the same axis. I've seen a usb dongle that can allow the switch to accept any bluetooth controller so you could play with a ps3 or ps4 controller. These are two I've looked at since the regular joycons keep cramping my hands.

For your second point, there's still a way to dock your Switch even if it has a protective case on it. All you have to do is get one of those dock extender cables that allow you to plug your Switch into the dock without actually physically docking it. This way, you can keep your Switch in its protective case and still easily switch between handheld and docked mode.

I'm protective about my electronics, so I always throw cases on them as soon as I get them. This is the accessory I use, and it's been working great so far. Better airflow too

u/DJMMT · 1 pointr/pcgaming

The easiest way to do it is with this. It allows you to use pretty much any wireless console controller on both PC and Switch. I use it so I can use my Wii U Pro Controller on PC and Switch but it works with DualShock4s, 360 pads, and pretty much any other mainstream pad.

u/TheToonWolf · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I did the thing with loosening the screws on the dock. It's easy enough honestly. And if you're still wary of it, you can use something like this to just plug the Switch in and rest it on top: https://www.amazon.com/Extender-Cable-Nintendo-Switch-Support-Transfer/dp/B072LWBYDV/

u/I_Call_It_Vera · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I recently purchased a dock extender from Amazon so I don't have to plug the switch into the dock (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B072LWBYDV/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521410406&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Nintendo+switch+dock+extender)

I know there has been some concern about third party docks and issues with them, does anyone have any experience with this? It's not really a dock, so I assume it should be okay, but wanted to see if anyone has thoughts.

Thanks!

u/gcwill7 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I’d just get a much more travel friendly USB-C adapter. Definitely worth the money.

u/cowsareverywhere · 66 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Direct Link to the 1.13 Firmware update

I just played some Rocket League to test it out and it seems to work flawlessly with no perceptible lag and rumble support. The buttons correspond to the button position on the Pro Controller, so the transition was seamless.

Only the newer Xbox One controllers are supported since the earlier ones didn't have Bluetooth. I am running on the latest firmware(5.0) for the Switch as well.

The adapter is available from Amazon for $20.

Edit - This usually gets asked everytime so let me preemptively say No,Third Party Controllers do not support Amiibo.

u/stockcar1515 · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

Here is the one I've used. Also, the one made for NES/SNES Classics is several dollars cheaper and I'm pretty sure that they can be used with a Pi by plugging it in with the provided micro USB to USB cable as I've seen others say it works. I actually own one of the SNES Classic retro receivers, so I can try it out later when I get a chance to confirm.

I purchased this a few weeks ago for my AirPods and it works great. It also does not require charging as it draws power from the USB-C port which is a big plus

u/MatNomis · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Well the Switch Lite Dock wouldn’t be as pricey as a regular Switch dock. This is what I was thinking.

Nintendo Switch Dual USB Playstand By HORI - Officially Licensed by Nintendo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W7FNN9Z/

So that’s just $30, not $80-ish. Or geeze maybe the regular Dock is infinity dollars... I’m perplexed I can’t seem to find standalone Switch docks in Target.com or Bestbuy.com... and it’s like $120 on Amazon...wtf

Anyway, a Lite-oriented dock/stand would be cheaper. However, you’re correct that you’d be using quite a bit of kit to get this all working, and then you’d have to still make sure you’re sitting pretty close to the screen. Video out to a larger display isn’t an option so you’d have to put your face within 2-3 feet or so.

u/danielfletcher · -7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Bullshit "dude". I've done it with a USB-C extension cable but it's tricky to get it plugged into the USB-C port in the dock. They sell customized ones that make it easier. So don't make up lies and use derogatory terms like "dude". Okay "bro"?

I bought this one and it works quite fine. I use it like a portable dock whenever I go to friends' house or gf's. But it doesn't have HDMI cable altogether,

u/MisterMaccabee · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Sure. Thing is tho I used a scissor to alter the bottom of the S&C grip case. If you look on the back of grip going about an inch up from bottom and mostly thru middle of the back of case from side to side there is an indent that surrounds the open plug on bottom of Switch. I cut using that line. Has no impact on stability of case. But now I can use any adapter I want.

First I bought this one which works just fine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L9V1FCF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought the second one because it has an elongated stem which could help with other cases I have so that I wouldn't have to alter the other cases in any way. I'll see which one I lie better and return the one I decide to not use

u/Imlulse · 1 pointr/headphones

There's already plenty of BT transmitters with AptX-LL support, from USB ones for PC/Mac use, to models more suited for home theater use with optical input and the ability to stream to two headphones simultaneously, and even USB-C stuff meant for the Nintendo Switch...

I dunno how adaptive AptX stacks up latency-wise, seems like a riff on the variable bitrate ability of LDAC but I've not seen a lot of transmitters with LDAC either and that's been out longer... So it might be a while for adaptive AptX. AptX-LL works more than fine for TV watching or gaming tho...

Mayflash Magic-NS or an 8bitdo adapter.

Pros for Mayflash -

Mayflash has a USB pass through on it so you can use controllers as wired controllers. Because of that it can work with some controllers that don't work as wireless because they lack bluetooth, such as the older pre-bluetooth Xbox One controllers or Xbox 360 controllers.

Cons for Mayflash -

Feels cheaper than the 8bitdo adapters. Sync\controller type button is super small and annoying to use.

Pros for 8bitdo -

Feels better built. Sync button is not as bad to use. Looks nicer attached to the dock.

Cons for 8bitdo -

Does not allow controllers to be used as wired controllers. Will not work with pre-bluetooth Xbox One controllers or 360 controllers. You need to update the firmware with a computer before first use. Costs an extra couple bucks.

It’s possible for any 3rd party dock to brick your Switch, so using any unofficial dock is not advised. Something you could use to keep the case on your Switch and still use the official dock is an extender like this.

Best advice I can give a new Switch owner, is don't use that dock. Get a usb-c extension cable, run that from your dock which you can hide somewhere, to the Switch. Keep the Switch on one of these slick stands, and in one of these grip cases. It will not get scratched, will stay cooler, and look nicer. Plus you never need to remove the grip case now.

I haven't had any issues with it so far. The only quirky thing I've had happen was sometimes it will allow me to turn on the switch from the PS4 controller and sometimes not, so I just hit the button from a joycon and then use the PS4 controller. I also have small hands, and generally find the XBone & PS controllers uncomfortable, but also my fingers end up in pain if I play with keyboard.

So I play with a Switch Pro controller. I heard that 8bitdo wireless adapter works, I just saw it was a lightning deal today so I ordered it, would be nice not to have to use a wired controller

Edit* here's the link, dunno if it's still on lightning sale.

From what I've seen, that's true. It just has the C.

Was this the official Microsoft one? I saw someone mention this somewhere, I think it is cheaper than the M$ one, just dunno if it works/works well.

Do I need a USB hub at this point? Since I use DashCam and now need to take up another port. Just want to know what the known-best hardware is if someone knows, so I don't have to re-research it from scratch myself.

I got most of the accessories from Amazon:

grip case

paw caps (I got the 02 and 03 sets)

dock extender

display stand

I got the joycons and a rechargeable joycon grip from Target.

Wait, so just grab one of these and I'm good? https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Raspberry/dp/B0786JC6VW/

Any side effects? Input lag? Frequent disconnects?

u/AlphaNERDSolid · 55 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The article does not go into detail. Seems like all he did is plugging it into an adapter. The adapter he used is the Mayflash MagicNS adapter. 8bitdo also offers such an adapter, however that is strictly wireless.

It's cool to see that he used an adapter for the adaptive controller on the Switch but at the end of the day it's all that he did. Nothing new in this regard.

u/AMysticalAlliance · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

No. Those adapters (made for cars) are receivers, they take the audio from your phone wirelessly and output it to the headphone jack (which is connected to your car).

What you want is a transmitter since the switch is outputting audio.

Something like this would work:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IV1H1ME/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

But it is better to get the ones made specifically for the switch since they are much smaller and are low profile.

https://www.amazon.com/HomeSpot-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Compatible-Headphones/dp/B07L9SL7ZT/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=switch+bluetooth&qid=1571820564&sr=8-3

u/jachorus · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hey, I ended up purchasing this thing which lets you pair the controller with the adapter and it handles all the complicated directinput/xinput stuff by itself (only downside is that the PC will detect it as an XBox360 controller, which means the gyroscope won't work, but if you're not planning to use it then it's not a problem).

Worked like a charm since then.

u/BarrelMaker69 · 1 pointr/PS4

If you already have an Xbox one or Switch pro controller you can use this. I have one and it works really well.

Hey guys I recently saw Youtube videos where people were reviewing a dock and charger extender cable, most of them being about his product: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072LWBYDV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 wondering with all the bricked consoles due to docks in 5.0 is anyone using this? does it work fine in 5.0?

u/throwawaylsjkcnasnd · 2 pointsr/funny
I've seen a smaller direct cord option, of which might be less expensive, and would take up less space. Also would be more portable.

...This is the one I heard of (I think I saw it at walmart or target) 27$:

...I noticed this one on Amazon (13$, but requires you to install something idk):

This is similar to the one I got, make sure you have a power supply though, that may be all you need to make yours work

u/SteveHarveyHandlebar · 1 pointr/gpdxd

One of those 8bitdo receivers. With an OTG cable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0786JC6VW?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title. It even works with a Wiimote. I'm sure it works with a Xbox 360. That's what it's recognized as. I don't have one to test.

u/GuiltyRaisin · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I made a Gamecube dock like this one.

I can't play in handheld mode without my Skull co gripcase and it was advertised to fit in docks, but some (like mine) don't.
___
But before I made the GC dock I used an extension with my case. Works as if it was docked normally.

u/Lucifronz · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I haven't bought one, myself (intend to, though, so I can connect my Xbox One controller to my PC when I feel like it), so I can't speak on the quality of any.

Personally a cheap dongle doesn't seem like the best of ideas, because I worry about the quality. Not just whether it'll break (which is less problematic due to the usually condensed size, although the possibility is still there), but because dongles like that don't interact well with updates.

My uncle used a simple wifi adapter for his PC back when he used Windows 7 or 8. Then he updated to Windows 10 and it not only had issues working, but it outright caused crashing when used above a certain download limit. After a while just opening an internet browser guaranteed a blue screen.

That's before and after Windows 10 reinstalls.

So I elect to find something a bit more quality. I have considered the 8Bitdo adapter, myself, because it could also be used for my Switch if I need an extra controller for whatever reason. Although it's unnecessarily large, which is a problem of its own.

I have no bluetooth adapter, but I favorite the homespot bluetooth 5.0 Audio Transmitter to get later. I like the low profile design even if it has no charge passthrough, but I don't need that for myself. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L9SL7ZT

u/P0rtableAnswers · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Around summertime I recall reading about docks like [these] (https://www.amazon.com/Fyoung-Type-C-Adapter-Nintendo-Converter/dp/B074RGQ261/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1511521106&sr=1-6&keywords=nintendo+switch+dock) including a disclaimer that warned that it could brick the console if the cables were not connected/disconnected in a precise order.

Here is another claim from a reddit user regarding a different model.

If the Nyko one is potentially dangerous...I'm highly skeptical to put trust in other ones right now.
