First, I agree with everyone else so far. The most important things are screen protector, micro SD card, and a carrying case. Second, what you buy will depend on how you will primarily play. If you are using it as your home console on a TV, you'll need different accessories than if you are going to play while travelling. And if you play while travelling, are you going to play tabletop with joycons detached or in handheld mode? Or you can do all 3 and buy everything :)

For the essentials, here's what I'm using right now

Butterfox Case: link

For your travel case, consider what you want with you. The case I use is great to throw in a backpack and have my Switch with me for quick gaming. If you want to travel with a dock so you can actually play everywhere with friends, you'll want something to accommodate that.

Screen Protector: link

One note on the micro SD card. You'll definitely want one with a good amount of storage if you plan on going digital. If you are mostly physical, you can get away with not having one for a while, but you'll probably need one. When purchasing one, make sure you get one from a reputable source. I just watched a YouTube video yesterday on how easy it is to essentially hack a micro SD card to say it has a lot more storage than it actually has. So anything extremely cheap coming from China might not be what you want.

For other accessories that are alittle more exciting, here's a list of the things I also recommend:

Portable Charger: You'll need one that has enough power to charge the Switch. Here's two that I have found work well. The Anker charger is significantly more expensive than the RAVPower, and neither are really cheap, but you'll get a lot of use out of it, and they can work for other electronic devices as well.

Anker

RAVPower

Portable Stand: The Switch's kickstand is pretty bad for tabletop mode. It's not adjustable and you cannot charge at the same time. Getting a portable stand fixes both of these problems. One like this is my personal favorite portable stand. You get more viewing angles than the plastic folding ones and you can use this with multiple devices as well. However, the Hori one or one similar to that works perfectly fine as well.

Pro Controller or Extra Joy Cons: Depends on your preference. I'd go with the Pro Controller if you're planning on playing mostly single player games. The extra set of Joy Cons are nice for multiplayer though as it allows 2 people to play with full controllers, or 4 people to play with a single joy con (aka Mario Kart).

If you go with the extra Joy Cons, I'd also suggest Joy Con Grips. While they might not look the best, it is a significant upgrade to holding the Joy Cons by themselves. They work perfectly fine for multiplayer Mario Kart.

As for games, with you just getting the Switch, I'd probably just stick with Odyssey and BotW for now. There's more than enough content for probably a couple of months depending on how quick you play through the stories. But if you're looking for multiplayer games, I'd probably start with Mario Kart. It's a classic that almost everyone loves and can play up to 4 players. Splatoon 2 is probably my next favorite to play besides Odyssey and BotW if that's your type of game and you really want something else. But everyone is different so if something stands out to you, then you'll probably know better than me what you'd like!

I take my switch with me a lot, so my favorite accessory is my backpack. I have one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS7DVLT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bO5UCb8GY83D0

It has specific pouches for everything. Multiple Joycon Controllers, your pro controller, your switch itself, your power cord and hdmi cord, your dock, your headphones, little zipper pouches for your games. Instead of putting my switch in the switch pocket, I leave it in my hard case, and I put a portible stand in the switch pocket.

Other accessories I enjoy:

-Pro controller for more comfort in docked mode, or for better control in fortnite and other multiplayer shooters.

-Portible stand for better tabletop play. The switch has a kickstand, but it can start to lose support and stop working, but it also is low to the table, only has 1 angle, and you can't charge your system while using the kickstand. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3T5UCbCYD20HR

-USB to usb-c converter. This is only if you have a wired controller like me. I like to play fortnite from time to time on my break, and I use my controller. But since it's wired, I bought the converter and I can plug it into my switch while I'm away from my dock. But it you get him wireless this won't be necessary.

-Screen protector. For obvious reasons 😁. Preferably a tempered glass one, not plastic.

-Car charger

-Carrying case. I prefer the medium thickness. Usually they're themed, I have a blue Zelda one. Hard shell is better, but usually not themed and is plain. I don't like soft cases at all.

Accessories I don't have but thought about buying:

-Dock Sock. Some people have had their system scratched by the dock, or have had someone else scratch it while docking it. The dock has hard plastic inside of it for some reason, and it can come into contact with the switch and scratch it if your not careful. The dock sock just adds a layer of cloth between the hard plastic and your screen. Not necessary, but can help, and you can find a ton of cool designs on etsy and other sites.

-Dock light. Can't be used with dock sock. Just makes the outside of your dock look cool.

-Better grip for handheld mode. A lot of people like them, I just didn't get one because it doesn't fit in my case and I'm too lazy to attach and separate them every time.

-Switch decals. Make your switch look cooler. I'd only buy from Nintendo as some 3rd party ones werent made correctly and fried people's systems.

-Replacement faceplates. Like decals, but it's completely new plastic casing. Some are awesome, like the ond school nes look or Gameboy crystal purple. They can be a pain to install though, and may void warranty (I don't know for sure, just a guess).

Games I like:

Solo:

-Zelda Breath of the Wild
-Stardew Valley (Now has multiplayer but I think online only, not split screen, could be wrong though)
-Hollow Knight

Solo I haven't bought but heard are good:

-Skyrim
-Dark Souls
-Cuphead
-Binding of Issac

Solo or Split Screen Co-op:

-Snipper Clips
-Overcooked
-Mario (Really any of them, though odyssey is less fun for player 2 as you just play as the hat)
-Minecraft
-Pokemon Let's Go

Solo or SS Co-op I don't have but heard are good:

-Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time
-Splatoon 2
-Boxboy Boxgirl

I'd also suggest you get him Nintendo online. It's free for a year if you have Amazon prime, or $20 a year if you don't. You can't play online multiplayer without it. You also get to download an app on your switch that has a bunch of old school games on it like super Mario, super Mario 2, super Mario 3, Dr. Mario, legend of link, legend of zelda, and a bunch of others. All of them are free as long as you have Nintendo online, and they add new games every month I think.

Long read, but hopefully it helps! Your giving him a gift he can enjoy for a long time, and there is so much to play on this system it's crazy. There are a ton of cheap indy games as well. So you could always just get him a Nintendo Eshop card and let him buy whatever looks good to him if you want. Tons of stuff $20 and lower, and there is always a ton on sale.

u/kratosauron0 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I looked online and saw prices ranging from $300-500. Is there any difference between these consoles other than the skin?

The $300 base model of the Nintendo Switch (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHP2ZK/) does not include any games, but is still what you should most likely buy. More expensive models may have games bundled or free in-game currency (e.g. Fortnite), but they shouldn't be more than $350 (plus tax). At $360, you're not really saving any money, and anything more expensive than THAT is from a third party trying to make a quick buck. The console itself currently has few variations; most of your customization will depend on what color controllers you get with the console.

What type of accessories am I going to need?

This depends on your use case. I'd recommend getting a screen protector (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/). If you expect to bring the Switch out of the house a lot, also get a case (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/). Anything else, like special controllers (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/) or a dock cover (https://www.etsy.com/listing/560319070/), is largely unnecessary right now; look into them when you find you need extra joy-cons (https://smile.amazon.comdp/B078GZM4H8/) or a tabletop stand (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/) for your Switch. In the end, you should not be spending more than $400 for the Switch, one game, and core accessories.

As for games, so far I planned on buying Smash Bros, Let's Go Pikachu, and One's Justice. Can you recommend any other games? I was never into Zelda but hear the new game is very good.

How old is your kid? Super Mario Odyssey (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY7GHKJ/) is fun, and has a great co-op mode if you want to play together. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also always a blast (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N1037CV/). I'm also a huge fan of Splatoon 2 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9QVIRV/), but it's probably better for older kids because it requires more dexterity. There's lots of games to recommend, but it'll help to know what your kid already likes... or what you want your kid to like ;)

Side note: To play online, you need Nintendo Switch Online (https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/). It's $20 a year for one ACCOUNT, or $35 a year for 8 accounts. Each account also has separate save files, if multiple people will be playing on the same Switch. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart both have online modes, but Splatoon's primary game modes are online-only.

Whats the difference between mario party and mario space odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey is an action-platformer for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party is a virtual board game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy is an action-platformer for the Wii, a completely different console.

On accessories - must haves definitely include (like everyone else said):

  • microSD card (64GB minimum imo, 128 is what I have because I have a fair amount of digital games)
  • A TEMPERED GLASS screen protector. This is easily the best screen protector on the market.
  • A travel case. I would recommend a nondescript black one; you don't want something that says "STEAL ME PLS"

    Less important things:

  • A stand (the one on the back of the Switch is pretty bad and if you use it a lot it will just snap off). The good ones are the HORI playstand with 3 angles and the official Nintendo charging stand.
  • Power banks/chargers: u/queuebitt made a whole website for this and regularly posts charger/power bank deals on r/NintendoSwitchDeals.
  • Extra controllers and Joy-Con grips: if you're going to play with multiple people you will need to get more controllers unless you want to play with the single Joy-Cons (which isn't a great experience). The Pro Controller you can find for around $60 now; in my opinion it's a really good investment.

Before we get on to games, there's always the debate of physical vs digital. Indie games are often cheaper digitally because they have to partner with companies to release physical copies, but for most "big" titles physical or digital really depends on the game.

  • Physical: the big advantage is that you can sell it once you're done with the game. This is good for games with low replayability, like Mario Odyssey; however, it comes with less convenience because you have to swap out the cartridge every time to switch games.
  • Digital comes with convenience; you don't have to swap out cartridges and you don't have to deal with potential cartridge issues, but you're stuck with the game and digital games go on sale way less often that physical games. Digital is great for games you'll open and play for a few minutes or rounds, like Mario Kart.

On to games. (these are the ones I have and can approve of)

  • Breath of the Wild is a must have if you're going to buy a Switch. It also has fantastic DLC that you'll probably want to buy along with the game.
  • Super Mario Odyssey is also really fun, but doesn't lend itself to multiple playthroughs very well. The first experience is amazing, but subsequent playthroughs don't have the same charm unless you're speedrunning.
  • Super Mario Party is a good experience for the first few times you play it but it suffers from a lack of content. I'd say get it when it goes on sale.
  • Mario Kart is a staple Nintendo game. Consider digital.
  • Smash Ultimate is also fantastic for both large groups and 2 people, but the solo modes aren't as great.
  • Overcooked 1 & 2 are so much fun, especially if you have 4 people. It quickly turns into a glorious mess and I love it.
  • Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is actually surprisingly fun for a game with maniacal rabbits. It also goes on sale ALL THE DAMN TIME so that's also a thing.
  • Splatoon 2 is a very creative, cute and charming game - but it's a team shooter game, so it's easier to get frustrated compared to other games. The DLC (Octo Expansion) is fantastic, though.
  • Hollow Knight, Celeste, and Shovel Knight are all amazing games (especially for the prices you get them at) but they're basically digital only. I'd say get him an eShop card and let him decide which games he wants.

TL;DR microSD card, screen protector, case. eShop card and get Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart at least.

Also: don't buy anything "Nintendo Switch" branded! They're literally the exact same things as the unbranded ones, just priced higher because of the logo.
u/lazy_eye_of_sauron · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

My advice, get a tempered glass screen protector. Sure, the screen is plastic and isn't going to shatter, but with a console that you can reasonably plan to be using for 3-5 years you want to make sure that nothing is going to scratch that screen, and you might as well not skimp on protection when it's only about 10 bucks.

You should also get a case. I'm using the hybrid case that you can buy from nintendo, but I honestly cant recommend it, while it protects my switch in transit, and acts as a better kickstand, it is uncomfortable to play with in handheld mode, and is annoying to take off the switch to dock it. Also while you can charge the switch while it is inside the case, it is cumbersome. Most of the zippered pouch cases you see will do the job, bonus points if it is hardshell.

The kickstand is okay at best. It can be flimsy at times, and doesnt provide for multiple viewing angles. I recommend the hori stand, because you can play and charge (something you cant do with the default kickstand) and have multiple viewing angles.

Avoid cheepass(tm) charge cables. USB-C can be picky, and not all type-c cables are made equally. Just because it fits, doesn't mean that it is up to the same standard as what's in your box. Your best bet is to check reviews on these before you buy. If you just get the cheapest thing, you might not charge as fast as you should, or worse you can damage your switch.

As for games, You already got BotW and MK8D. If you need more to play, give Shovel Knight a try, as well as Binding of Isaac and Graceful Explosion Machine. All the Neo Geo games are great. Snipperclips is great if you have friends to play it with, and if you have friends AND alcohol, 1,2 switch can be entertaining for a few hours.

u/Lorben · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

It'll be possible but I don't think it would be realistic to have more than 2 people play at a time. It wouldn't work well if all 4 people spread across 4 want to play at the same time. Remember, this is a 6.2 inch screen we're talking about. If you wanted more than 2 people to play you would also need to buy additional controllers.

  • You'll want to make sure you get the newly revised Switch with better battery life.

There's still some older model Switchs on the shelves, you want to make sure you get the new one.

The old model box has a Switch and TV on a white background.

The new model box has a Switch and TV on a red background.

It's model number is HAC-001(-01), sometimes that's listed on the description if you're buying online.

  • Unless you're buying and packing more controllers you'll need to make sure whatever game(s) you get support single Joycon play.

The Joycons on the Switch slide off to become two separate controllers, but since they don't have all the buttons of a regular controller not every game can be played with a single Joycon. There's a lot that can though, such as Mario Kart 8, Snipperclips, Kirby Star Allies, Super Smash Bros. If you need recommendations or aren't sure if a game supports single Joycon play I'm sure we can answer that for you.

  • The Switch can charge off a portable battery bank to make it last longer.

However the charging port on the Switch is on the bottom, so if you have it standing up using the kickstand you won't be able to plug it in. You can get a stand to put it on which would both put it at a more comfortable height and make the charging port accessable.

If you're not already bringing a battery bank with you on your trip you really should be. Couple things to note here.

Most flights are going to limit you to a single battery with at most 100 watt hours and it has to be in your carry on luggage. 100 watt hours is typically gong to be 26800mAh.

26800mAh would net you an additional 12 hours of play in addition to the built in battery in the older less efficient Switch. So that would definitely last you the whole flight. You could probably get away with a 10000mAh battery and have the Switch last the whole flight but that might be pushing it slightly.

If the battery bank doesn't charge at at least 5v3a the Switch will use charge faster than the battery bank will supply it. It'll still extend the battery life because it'll be pulling power from the battery bank, but the charge % will still go down on the Switch. Again, if you have questions about specific banks we can answer them.
u/Saxophobe · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Similar to you, but for the carrying case there is a much better one. (Nintendo's own one is too soft, so the thumb-sticks are a bit vulnerable in there from getting bashed). While I love the stand feature on it, I hardly ever use that, as there are better ways of doing it where you can access the cable from underneath, like you can with the separate foldaway stands. Also, there's not much room in Nintendo's case to carry any extra stuff (so is no good for the stand, and not even enough room to carry so much as a charging cable).

I've bought and tried quite a few different pouch and accessory combinations in order to solve this, and the best case so far out of all of them is the Orzly Hard Pouch Carrying Case (as there's tones of extra joy-con room aswell as room for lots of extra stuff like cables, games, battery pack, etc, aswell as my foldaway stand).

It's also padded extremely well on the inside whilst being a hard shell on the outside. Yet they've done all that whilst doing an exceptionally good job of being the most space conscious on the inside compared to all the other ones I've used, whilst also not making it too big on the outside.

And the best foldaway stand by far is this one...

BEST STAND:

https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Angle-Nintendo-Switch-Lamicall-Playstand/dp/B01LZAYH58

So the best case for it to fit in with the switch and everything else inside that I use 100% of the time is this one...

BEST CASE:

I got myself a Multi-Angle Stand to play in tabletop mode, specifically because I was playing games with motion control, but I also found it to be better for longer play sessions in general since it allows you to use a pro controller (or joy con in the grip), and also it makes charging while playing less intrusive than attempting to use a device tethered to a cord.
The built in stand is definitely rubbish, as it really only works on a solid flat, smooth surface. Even one bump or curve and it won't stand. I like the stand I linked since I can have it sitting on a couch cushion and it will still hold it up fine (until a cat decides to jump onto the same cushion). It also allows for going into portrait mode for games where you'd want to do so (e.g. pinball, shoot em ups, old arcade classics, etc.)

Speaking of motion controls, for what little I tried them on Warframe I enjoyed how they felt. I'd definitely recommend turning motion controls on.

u/ElementaryHufflepuff · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you plan on playing it in table top mode, get a good stand, as the built in one leaves much to be desired. I have the Hori one linked below, which has been good, but I plan on upgrading to an aluminum one.
https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519660340&sr=8-4&keywords=nintendo+stand+switch

Also, if you plan on playing docked, you need a pro controller. I have found that the range of movement on the joycon analog sticks leaves much to be desired.

The system is an Indie power house and I love it. If you are in to Rougelites like Gungeon, there is always Binding of Isaac and Darkest Dungeon. Stardew Valley is amazing and is one of my personal favorites. People will recommend Golf Story, but i personally couldn't get into it. If you are into Minecraft, I would recommend Steamworld Dig 2, its a 2D Mining/Metroidvania that surpassed every expectation I had. Runner 3 is going through the certification process, but that's another indie I can't wait for.

The kickstand is nearly useless but there's a very inexpensive accessory that addresses the issue you mentioned and gives you some more flexibility to get the switch up at a better angle for your neck/back anyway. I am sure you're aware of this, and this doesn't invalidate your criticism but I think the kickstand was likely kind of an afterthought and it's nice to have in a pinch. Amazon link to item

Nintendo is exceptionally good at getting people to buy extras for their consoles, whether first party or third party. I have a closet full of random plastic holders for Wii controllers that were arguably completely unnecessary but for some reason I thought playing Wii Sports with a fake tennis racket was more fun. Not to mention the earlier gameboys, I had so much shit strapped to my OG gameboy that Nintendo arguably could have built into the device (light, better speakers, battery packs, etc) too. This is how Nintendo has always done it.

Edit: forgot to link to the accessory I bought to address the kickstand issue. Added.

Some recommended Switch accessories:

  • A tempered glass screen protector such as ORLZY, Spigen or AMFilm. All are excellent only reason AMFilm gets more recommendations as it was first to market.

  • A protective case like Hori Tough Pouch

  • Hori LAN Adapter if you play online lots as the Switch has very weak WiFi service. Also other lan adapters may work but only the Hori one is officially supported.

  • Hori Play Stand if you frequently play in table top mode or need to charge while in table top mode.

  • Pro Controller

  • The [Google Pixel USB C-C charger] (https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_18w_power_adapter) as it is easy to find locally, even on sale, and more compact than the Nintendo one but it won't power the dock.

  • Nintendo A-C cable (comes with the Pro Controller)

  • Your choice of headphones

  • A larger bag such as Butterfox Carry All case to hold your EDC (every day carry).

  • PowerA Cartridge Cases if you need extra game storage on the go (comes in several designs).

  • RAVPower 26800 PD a battery pack with both Type C in and out such as this one. Type C is means quicker charging and Type C out to safely power the Switch while using it.

  • PowerA Hybrid Cover might also be of interest to some people. I have not used it though as it is not my style. There are a few different colour/designs.
u/narf1998 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I really enjoyed having it on the plane, made the time go by quicker. I rarely take my switch anywhere, hardly ever play in handheld mode, so I take the opportunity to play indie games and other mobile-ish games , completed Bulb Boy on my last flight. I definitely would recommend a carrying case if you're concerned about the system.

Depending on your seats, a stand might really come in handy. I used the fairly popular Stand from amazon. Worked really well on the seat in front of me and was pretty stable even in mild turbulence. Picture

I do find that games with motion kinda jack me up. Played MK8 and got a headache after a little while.

u/animatohnn · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm traveling this June too across the Atlantic and this is what I will be taking with me after some thinking/research.

  1. Case: Mumba Carrying Case
Great protection + lots of space especially if you have a grip on your console. Decent price to what you're getting.

  2. Battery Pack: RAVPower 26800 PD Power Bank
26800mAh would be the power limit that planes allow onboard. They ask for less than 100 Wh.To get the Wh of a power bank, use this formula (mAh)/1000 x (V) = (Wh) (V is usually 3.7 for these types of packs)

  3. Controller: 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro Bluetooth Gamepad (G Classic Edition)
Slim and portable and works great with the types of games I play (one of them being Octopath!)

  4. Stand: HORI Compact Stand - Zelda Edition
As most people recommend, a stand is a great thing to carry so you can play without straining your hands from the weight of the switch. This one lets you charge your switch and is designed for it, not a repurposed phone stand.

And obviously your charger, usb-C cables, headphones, joy con straps.

Which is the best slip-on case for Nintendo Switch that will also work with a play stand (so I don’t have to keep on removing the slip case each time I put it on the play stand)?

I was thinking of getting the Hori Play stand and the Orzly hybrid cover.

However, I am not sure if the Switch will fit in the play stand once the Orzly hybrid cover is on it and also if there will be enough ventilation for the slots on the back once the covered Switch in on the play stand.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

u/Ouma_Shu · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Comes with all DLC and everything unlocked. So that's up to you if it's worth it over the Wii U

  2. shrug

  3. shrug

  4. carrying case, portable charger, tempered glass if stickler for this, stand

4.5. Just so you don't get hounded for this, keep these type of questions to daily question thread. Many actually hang around there and are very helpful. :)

  5. welcome to the family and hope your experience will be awesome!
u/pete245 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Probably the best thing to buy is a tempered glass screen protector to make sure you get no scratches at all. I think that's the only must have thing.

Asides from that you can get a carrying case, stand like this or something like this and portable charger (if you're taking it on the go).

From reading a lot of experiences, even if you intend for it to be mainly docked some people found themselves gravitating towards handheld mode just because of how easy it is. So even if these aren't must buys for you it's something to keep in mind if you find yourself using handheld mode a lot.

Otherwise the only other thing you might get for couch co-op is a pro-controller. If you're going to be doing 2 player especially with mario kart, need a 2nd controller and you know a traditional controller never hurts when playing zelda!

Also definitely buy snipperclips, from personal experience that's just hours of fun to play especially with your SO.

u/SwirishNinja · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Super Bomberman R supports up to 8 players on a single console and is a ton of fun multiplayer.

Outside of everything else recommended here, I recommend a Switch stand like the Hori one as it allows you to play while charging and not using the dock (super handy on airplanes/trains that have power plugs).

u/Burritozi11a · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

HORI and 8BitDo are your best friends for cheap, officially-licensed accessories.

The Switch's kickstand sucks, and with the charging port's location, you cant charge and keep it propped up on the table at the same time. Luckily, HORI makes a pretty sturdy and compact tabletop stand to tackle these issues.

If you plan to take your Switch somewhere like a long road trip or a flight, keep in mind that the console's battery life is pretty terrible. If you want to extend your battery life, check out the officially licensed Anker power banks.

u/BarnabyJones21 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If that's the case, using the Anker 10K should do just fine. I have this model and the battery will dip slightly when playing games, but it's like 1% every 30m or so. I haven't done legitimate calculations, but it's certainly worth bringing along when using the Switch away from home. Just don't forget to get a stand, since the cable runs through the bottom of the Switch. I really enjoy the one I bought; the cable can run right through a gap in the front and up to the Switch.

EDIT: Oh, and the cable that comes with the Anker 10K won't work on the Switch, so you'll need to buy a USB A to C cable.

u/moonshoeslol · 1 pointr/Games

The one I got was this one and I can recommend it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N9RTMWS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Basically it's nice for changing the angle of the screen (especially if it's on a plane tray table), having the charging cable plugged in, and keeping it a little more stable than with the built in kickstand. This one is also pretty compact. Pretty good for flying.

u/SuperfieldCU · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I got the Butterfox carrying case. Sturdy, holds 19 games, and a pocket for accessories. Great case for a great price.

If you want to use the Switch in tabletop mode, definitely go for the Hori Playstand. The Switch's built-in kickstand has several issues: it's flimsy, blocks the charging port when set up and only has one viewing angle. The Playstand fixes all of those things and yes, it does fit in the Butterfox case's accessories pouch.

If you want to be playing it in the car, you'll want a car charger. I personally got the PowerA charger. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but it is officially licensed by Nintendo. I also got this car mount; just make sure you put the Switch into it in such a way that you don't block the holes on the back. Those are not speakers, they're air intakes and you never want to block them while the system is running (you're fine in sleep mode).

u/PixeledBrain · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Im getting my switch in about a week and a half, so i've started to look for accesories, and I think i need some help :P

Initially ill be getting Mario Kart, so im going to buy the official Joy Con Wheel x2 thing.

I was also going to buy a carrying case, and I saw this one, which looked nice.

The last thing I was going to buy for now was a screen protector, since i've heard they can get scratched easily when placing/removing the console from the dock, so I was thinking of buying this one. I also saw a Hori screen protector, but it has horrible reviews (Mostly complaining about it unsticking at the bottom of the switch because of the heat when being docked).

So, are these good choices or should I buy some other one instead?

Also, ill probably end up buying a controller, however, I find the pro controller to be too expensive, so I was thinking of buying the Hori one which is much more affordable, but is it any good? Are there any other good controllers? And I was looking at Hori stuff, so I stumbled upon the Playstand, and the game case. Are they worth buying?

Sorry if this comment is too big, im very hyped for the Switch, and I dont want to ruin my experience with bad accesories =)

EDIT: I forgot to ask, Is a big SD Card worth it? How much space would you recommend if it is?

u/superwiifan · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

First off, if you plug your switch into a dock, the screen on the Switch itself will go black. What you would want to do to charge a switch in tabletop is to get a good stand that has a space for the charger to fit in, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KBJSCb4AE5SKY

Second, if you DO want a portable dock, I’d recommend taking an official dock and putting it into a smaller shell, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YVC3NJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6CJSCbJRHEK9W
It’s a fairly straightforward and easy process - I don’t have much engineering know-how and it took me a half-hour max.

u/laurab33 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I dont have answers for you but I'll be traveling from the US to Isreal soon so I'm interested as well.

I dobsuggest having a stand that you can adjust the angle on if you don't already, however. I have this one and it's great as it's foldable and has an opening to plug in the charger. It really makes it more comfortable to view without having to hold it in those airplane seats.

u/Wescyde · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I would get another C-Cable, I have 3 one for my Pro Controller (came with it) connected to the dock to charge, 1 in my room and one for travel this is a good pair for a good price

https://www.amazon.com/Snowkids-Braided-Charger-Macbook-Nintendo/dp/B01ISLH4V0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1499366355&sr=8-3&keywords=c+cable

Think about a small travel case if you intend to take it places and maybe a stand like a Lamicall one
https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Angle-Nintendo-Switch-Lamicall-Playstand/dp/B01LZAYH58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499366407&sr=8-1&keywords=lamicall+switch+stand

It works really well and folds up for easy traveling.

HAVE FUN

Trying to find a stand just like the one linked below, but that doesnt block 50% of each of the ventilation openings on the back of the console. Does such a thing exist? Ive been on amazon, wish app, ali express, and i havent found one yet. I love this one because its aluminum (so its sturdy enough for me), lightweight, folds flat, and fully adjustable.

I design levels with the Switch on this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZAYH58/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mV1gDbHVB8ABZ

And use my left hand on the Switch and my right hand using a Stylus. I find that I can relax pretty easily with this setup on a tv-tray or lap-tray (like you would use with a laptop)

You are pretty much set to go. Only other accessory that I might suggest, since you mentioned that you want to play with your wife while travelling, is a kickstand which allows you to charge your Switch (with your anker powerbank) while playing in tabletop mode.

For example: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Playstand-Multi-Angle-Adjustable-Smartphones/dp/B06XW9GW1H/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1511532825&sr=8-5&keywords=switch+kickstand

Also, if you are going to use the Joy Cons for co-op, this grip might make your life a bit easier: https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Nintendo-Switch-Wear-resistant-Handle/dp/B06XZ1PCKK/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1511532980&sr=1-3&keywords=joy+con+grip

These accessories are not really necessary, but they might improve the quality of your game sessions in certain situations.

I too just bought a switch the other day (finally found one).

Here is what I have bought (so far):

[A Stand]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZAYH58/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) needed? Maybe not, but I won't always have my screen with me to tote around.

Charge grip The grip that currently comes with the switch does not charge. I am ok with the switch's controllers, but do not like the idea of sliding it down on the screen every time they needed charged. I can't see me getting a "pro controller" but that is an option.

[This cable] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JJB3DB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I played all day Sunday, and noticed the switch was over heating. This cable allows for the switch not need to dock. Needed? No, but teaming this up with the stand and this means I should not have over heating issues.

And then I got these grips because the match my controllers, and I wanted that "back" hump for better grip.

Why grips and charge grip? Well I modded the charge grip already, are removed the plastic built-around.

I also bought a screen protector, the tampered glass one, for the screen, but I got that at a store.

To many case options out there, I got lucky a found a Zelda BotW special edition when they came out, so I have that. As for mobile charging, no help there.

u/waffledork · 17 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked up the Hori Switch Stand specifically for traveling. Being able to charge while playing is a huge plus but the stand also comes with 3 settings so you can angle your Switch to something other than what thr kickstand offers.

As a tall guy, the kickstand on the Switch doesn't angle the screen enough when you don't have much space to maneuver in Economy seating. The tray table is too close. Having the extra angles makes the Switch playable in tabletop mode for me on airplanes.

Sure you can charge while in handheld mode but that discounts the ability to play multiplayer (MK8D or the like with my wife).

u/WafflesGaming · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah, the kickstand is extremely clunky, I rarely ever use it. Your best bet would be to buy the HORI Playstand on amazon, here's the link:

I've heard pretty good things about it.

u/Walopoh · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hey man, in case you are only playing off the small screen, I suggest you preorder this compact HORI kickstand that'll let you charge the console while you're playing and hold it at a better angle.

Good luck dude, and thank you for your service.

u/DualCay0te · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

So that was just a little project/hobby I was working on.

-I used a small 7 inch screen which I already owned. Only a resolution of 1024 x 600. But I wasn't going to buy a mini monitor with 720p native res just for this. It's this one.

-A multi-angle stand which I had previously bought for my Nintendo Switch. Link

-A cheapie 10000mAh powerbank with dual output charge for 5V, 2A (for the screen) and 5V, 1A (for the PS Classic).

-Velcro adhesive to easily attach and remove the screen, the PS Classic and the powerbank from the stand. The powerbank is attached at the back.

-Short (25cm) HDMI cable.

-Short (15cm) USB male to male cable for powering the monitor.

-Short (20cm) micro USB to USB power cable for the PS Classic. Previously this cable was used for my Chromecast device. But it works fine here.

An OTG adapter to plug into the power port of the PSC. And a 128GB USB drive plugged into the OTG adapter.

The PSC is running the latest AutoBleem build with a custom theme. I've upgraded the custom kernel to take advantage of OTG support. FYI, what "OTG" means here is that you can plug your OTG adapter into the rear of the console and connect your usb drive directly to the OTG adapter, thus freeing up the front controller ports and bypassing the power issues of the console.

Is there anything else that you would recommend or change from what I posted? From my understanding a cover for the dock is also recommended?

Regarding the memory, I am buying two physical games, however I must likely will be buying more digitally in the future (probably).

One of the things that give me a pause when I was searching for accessories is the Mumba case that I want to buy. I wish for the switch to have a good case just in case, but from I see the case won't allow other accessories while the switch is in it.

And is a grip necessary when in handheld mode?

    Thanks for the help.

The kickstand works fine on a flat surface. The reason why people really like the playstand is because you can also charge it while playing and it's more sturdy than the kickstand. You cannot charge while playing in tabletop mode if using the kickstand.

This is the one most people have bought and has received positive praise on this sub:

HORI Compact Playstand for Nintendo Switch Officially Licensed by Nintendo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS

u/cal92scho · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Is this the Hori stand you're referring to?:

https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS

Creating a flat stand which incorporates a 90 degree adapter would be a pretty attractive way of doing it, in my head I'm think of something similar to the stands you can buy for an iPhone. If you made the stand deep enough that you could use the Switch's own kickstand then that's perfect, I'd buy one.

iPhone stand for reference: http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MGRM2ZM/A/iphone-lightning-dock-white

I got that protector and it seems great.

edit: Can't really comment on the Amazon Basics stand since I don't have it, but I bought this one and have no qualms with it. I was a little concerned that the Amazon one might fall apart or something. I'm sure it'd be okay though. I think if I bought the amazon one I might also buy some cheap rubber stick on things to put on the base to prevent it from slipping. I think you'd be fine going with the AmFilm screen protector and the Amazon Basics stand.

Hey guys so with smash coming out it got me thinking about a portable setup. I have one of the hori playstands and love it and was thinking of getting a usb c to usb a adapter to plug a gamecube adapter into it in tabletop. Then I found a new hori playstand that has 2 usb ports and a charging passthrough.

I don't want to spend more on a new playstand and i like the height that i get from the one i have and started to search for a dongle that does the same thing. I found this that essentially does the same thing (usb a ports and a charging passthrough) and was wondering if it would work and not damage the switch. Understanding that switches have bricked in the past from using third party products through the usb c port would this be safe to use.

TL;DR I want to play smash in handheld and want to know if this dongle (no hdmi) would damage my switch

u/KeithTheGeek · 34 pointsr/smashbros

There are USB C to USB adapters that can be used with a tablet stand to prop the Switch up allowing them to be used, as well as other alternatives. Hori for example is releasing a USB hub soon that has 4 usb ports. While it doesn't output over HDMI like Nintendo's dock, it would be perfectly suitable for this sort of "easy to transport" setup play and can provide power when plugged into a wall.

u/YagamiYakumo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

From a practical point of view, there's not much reason to get this outside of brand loyalty and/or looks. There are cheaper alternatives with better portability and control over viewing angle adjustment, then if you want better "performance", there's the new Hori charging stand with USB hub instead. Of course I'm not going to complaint over having an additional option though. In fact, I would probably had purchased this myself if it was already on the market when I got my switch.

u/JoshuaJSlone · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

HORI's stand is a cheap and popular option. I've got one and it's pretty nice. It even folds up small enough I can fit it in my Switch case.

u/bino420 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Here's a good one for $13 and you can get it now. Looks like it's easier to travel with too thanks to how it folds up.

I'm thinking about getting a second dock, or a dock-replacement dongle (for travel). I'm wondering if people here have them and would like to offer opinions on the matter. What are the pros and cons of a mini dock like this, compared to a dongle like this?

I'm not looking for feedback on those specific products, just any similar items that you might use as a dock while traveling. What do you like, what do you not like?

I bought the Hori Switch stand:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N9RTMWS
Apparently, the one that comes with the console doesn't allow the charging cable to attach while you play on "Table Mode" (playing it & charge at the same time). Definitely get screen protectors to protect your investment. Also, since this will be a party console, and I want Bomberman game, I bought 2 extra Joycons.

u/CreamerBot3000 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There is a company that makes all sorts of game system mounts. They have universal ones too for cable boxes and stuff. The wii is actually just using a universal mount. They are really nice. All metal, and fit perfectly. I have controller mounts too, but I choose to not use them, instead I have a charging basket in my shelf. You could check out my other post with my cable management.

Oh right. The company is hide-it mounts.

Does anyone have recommendations on whats a good Switch stand to buy? I'm going to be leaving for a trip soon and i'm going to be on the flight for a while. I saw this one or if I should buy something like the HORI one as it is meant for the switch specifically.

Anybody have any experiences or suggestions on which to buy? Thanks!

u/LinktheMaster · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

A stand is really useful for things like plane rides because they make the switch more stable than the kickstand, and you can charge the system while playing. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N9RTMWS/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1511326691&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65

u/StimulatorCam · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The screen protectors and case are good. He won't need an sd card right off the bat if you're buying the games on cartridge, so you can always hold off on that. The system comes with a dock, so you don't really need another. The Joy-Cons charge while the system is docked so you don't really need a separate charger for them either.

The only other accessory that I have that is pretty nice is this stand.

u/tw04 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I originally wanted the Hori one but since it's sold out right now I ended up going with this one, which seems to be a generic one sold by a bunch of different brands. Works great though. HOWEVER, mine did NOT come with the airhole vents shown in the 5th thumbnail. They might have updated the product since then and have a newer version, but yeah not 100% sure.

u/Cedocore · 48 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Anyone who wants a good kickstand should 100% check out the HORI Playstand. I spent 8 hours playing on the built-in stand one day and at the end I fucking hated it, but my buddy recommended this to me and oh my god it's so much better. It sounds dumb but this is one of the best purchases I've made in months. It pairs very well with those wooden TV tray/stands everyone seems to own except me.

u/juicyjames · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have a similar stand that I use for my switch and can confirm that it is a lifesaver. You can't really use tabletop mode without such a device as it allows you secure it on a surface (even something soft like a bed or sofa) and adjust the angle.

https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Angle-Nintendo-Switch-Lamicall-Playstand/dp/B01LZAYH58

u/Dougboard · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I like my Hori adjustable stand well enough; it sits high enough that it's comfortable playing while sitting at a table or something along those lines, and folds up and fits into my Switch carrying case.

u/HorizonZeroD · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I personally like this one made by Lamicall because you can adjust to a much wider range of angles than the Genki stand and it has more clearance for the charging cable. And it folds completely flat which is good for storage. The only downside is that it can't accommodate the Genki bluetooth device because the two parts that support the switch from the bottom of the switch near the charging port are too close together to fit it between them.

That issue used to happen to me all the time, the kickstand isn't the sturdiest. I bought the Hori stand off Amazon and it works great when I travel as I can charge the unit and play at the same time.
https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1501083437&sr=8-3&keywords=switch+stand

u/sirlaffsalot47 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I bought this and my major complaint is that the stand is super small, I don't know why they didn't make it wider. Easy to tip over if put at a weird angle, I'd recommend this much cheaper playstand. It goes higher up with much better viewing angles. plus when you charge it it goes directly into the port.

It's about $3 cheaper without the Zelda design too but I think it looks cool.

u/Unlucky_Situation · 1 pointr/PS4

I currently use this holder to hold my phone or tablet at a good angle while I'm gaming on my console. Would probably work perfectly for the rdr2 companion app to go hudless.

u/tekchic · 1 pointr/AppleArcade

Totally, CFW ftw! So when I use the controller, I've got a Switch stand (the Hori one: https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS?th=1) and just finished Ys VIII yesterday with the controller. For some of the "button mashy" ARPG's, I'm paranoid about wear and tear on my Vita buttons, so I just use the DS4 controller when I'm on the couch.

On the go, I just take the Vita though, although it's mostly a Visual Novel / JRPG device for me. :)

u/rochford77 · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

A tip.

The joycons are really not great for this game. The short throw of the sticks does not allow for very precise movements. A pro controller on a couch (if your TV has a game setting or low latency mode, most do) is the ideal way to play on switch. With that said, if you can't always take over the TV, a stand like [this](HORI Compact Playstand for Nintendo Switch Officially Licensed by Nintendo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zdfXAbFAT1DMY) and a pro controller are immensely better than joycons in handheld mode.

u/UCLAKoolman · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

How can it be an alternative if they lack similar functionality? The dock is for connecting the switch to a TV and this charging stand is for playing on the switch itself. The only similarity is that they both charge the switch when connected to the AC adapter.

Your comments suggested you wanted to carry the original dock with you, but now you are saying you don't need TV out. You were going to take the original dock with you just to charge your switch? Why not just bring the AC adapter then and leave the dock at home?

The charging stand is more of an alternative to using a folding stand plus a charger than it is to the dock. The Hori stand has been around for a while and works well for me on flights. Nintendo's charging stand is an alternative to this Hori stand. In other words, if I purchased this new charging stand I could leave my Hori dock at home but I would still want to bring along my portable dock...

u/TemptedTemplar · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

The battery is as big as the inside of the system will allow. What you could do is use something like the HORI stand or a tablet holder and slap a HUGE batterybank on to it.

The linked one would provide a total of 33 straight hours of Zelda playing.

u/Blovnt · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Try this stand instead.

It's amazing and works better than the stock stand ever could.

Get a small portable stand! This helps so much when the kick stand just isn’t quite the right angle.

Also, I really liked Brawlout on the eShop. It’s enough of a fighting game to get by until Smash comes out.

But, definitely go for BOTW and/or SMO.

Ooo a screen protector and a case for the switch and games, especially if your going mostly portable

u/SirDinkus · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

In the gallery I make sure it's clear you need either a skin or hard case on your Switch to do this (unless you don't care about sticking something directly to your system). But you're right, I did forget that you can't dock it with a steelie on. I haven't docked my switch once since I got it, and I just recently ordered a better docking solution. Check this out if you're interested. But to answer your question, the steelie mount is a little over a inch squared. Basically a little larger than a marble. Even compared to the official Compact Playstand the Steelie is tiny.

u/data_Jack · 10 pointsr/nintendo

Like others have mentioned there is no way to charge the Switch while on a kickstand; however, short of crafting one for yourself, I found and preordered a nifty stand that has adjustable levels and plenty of room for the charger. Hope this helps anyone

It's not recessed, you need something like this to charge while using it on a table. Or set up your Switch by propping it up with books or something.

> Edit: I don't know why I was down voted, it is true, you cannot charge the system while it is stood up with the kickstand as the charging port will be blocked by the table or whatever the system is sitting on. And if it is fanboys downvoting me, I'll have you know I actually have the system preordered so I'm just as much a fanboy as you.

> Edit 2: Proof that it's not recessed. You can clearly see the USB Type C on the bottom.

Looks like it's being targeted mostly for individual use, so a kickstand would not be a priority. I'd expect Anker's stuff to work, considering that they make some good quality accessories. I will say that the power output of the USB port in a plane might not be that powerful so who knows if it will actually charge quickly.

Additionally, keep in mind that the USB-C port is on the bottom of the console, so it is blocked in tabletop mode. However, this accessory should help circumvent that: https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS

Another alternative is that you can just play with it plugged in while in handheld mode.

I am interested in their wired controller, but I can't find any information on it anywhere except on ebgames canada where it says that it releases on March 31st. Normally I would have accepted that but I found other switch accessories from them that are released on the 3rd on amazon and those are still marked as releasing on the 31st on ebgames. Which one is right, and why can't I find the controller anywhere else?

u/dfelinto · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I like Hori's stand, but it's up to your comfort level with the vanilla angle you can get from the switch: https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS

I don't have/haven't tried Nintendo official new stand, so I can't comment on it. It looks sexier though.

u/OckhamsFolly · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd personally stick with a basic case and get the Hori Compact Playstand. It would fit in the top pocket of my Butterfox with no problem, probably even with my 20100 mah battery and charge cord for the Switch (I could probably downsize on the cord a bit, it's the one that came with the pro controller).

If size was your absolute top concern, I might suggest a wallet case like his one. Won't be able to charge it while it's on the stand though, and I'd be worried about it in a tight backpack.

If an all-inclusive case/stand with charging capability is what you are after, your best bet probably is the Satisfye slim case AManCalledM recommended or something similar.

> wondering if you can plug the controller into the USB C charging port in the switch

You can plug in a wired controller into this port and it works fine. Fine as in fit for purpose, but not necessarily fit for use. You may want to look into the Hori stand that has an integrated USB hub.

I use this controller when I need a turbo button. It's well built and inexpensive. Keep in mind that it does not have motion controls or vibration.

u/No_Hands_55 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

this would probably be the best bet

but i am working on some designs for a table top stand and a "backpack" for handheld mode to hold some large battery packs

u/trinadin · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I spent about seven hours flying with my Switch this last week. I used the HORI Compact Playstand, and sat it on the little pull down counter on the seat in front. You don't have it down until you're cruising, and unless you have some pretty bad turbulence, that stand isn't going to slide anywhere. It worked out great.

Best advice I can give a new Switch owner, is don't use that dock. Get a usb-c extension cable, run that from your dock which you can hide somewhere, to the Switch. Keep the Switch on one of these slick stands, and in one of these grip cases. It will not get scratched, will stay cooler, and look nicer. Plus you never need to remove the grip case now.

These are what I got, many type of stands to choose from though.

I picked up the Lamicall multi-angle stand. It's spectacular! I was using the kickstand, which was okay for a bit, but I'm tall and found myself slouching in my office chair. You can position the stand exactly where you need it, and it folds up to pocket-size too. Highly recommended!

I don’t know why the other guy git downvoted, that’s exactly what I did. Purchased a DIY switch dock mold, found a switch dock on sale through google express for about 55 dollars, gutted that dock and put the board into the mold. The one I got came with really simple instructions on how to do it. That’s your best bet, that way you don’t have to deal with the anxiety of wondering if the third-party dock will brick your Switch.

I got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRVBD7D/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Seems to work okay, has little nubs to hold the switch like the dock does.

u/RichieD79 · 2 pointsr/kindafunny

Gotta pick up this bad boy for it. I use those stand every time I’ve used my switch. Best $12 I’ve spent on it! Haha. Also don’t forget a screen protector!

u/GrumpyM · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd really recommend the stand. Since the charge port is on the bottom, it's hard to play with the controllers detached without the stand. I do this all the time in hotels, airplanes, etc etc etc. The stand fits right into my case.

I have the Hori stand, it has been handy quite a few times and fits in most carrying cases.

Got a Tryone gooseneck to hook on my exercise bike too. Works prety well for the Switch, recommended to me by some other Redditors.

I use this. There are similar variations for sale at many retailers. Is nice to have the gap for the charging cord, and it's collapsible so it fits in my small travel case.

You might snag one of these once they’re back in stock. Will make charging while using in tabletop mode a bunch easier.

https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS you plug directly into the switch. The Hori stand just lifts the switch up so he doesn't need to use 'random desk debris' to access the charging port. You're thinking of 3rd party docks.

u/AtomKick · 17 pointsr/nintendo

paw caps (I got the 02 and 03 sets)

dock extender

display stand

I got the joycons and a rechargeable joycon grip from Target.

I'm lame and just bought a shell off of amazon...
Link if you're curious.
My Switch was starting to get a little scratched up so this seemed like a cost effective solution.

u/MatNomis · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a raised stand like the Hori PlayStand, and plug the Switch into power. Even low-current (USB1 levels) should be enough to trickle charge it once it falls asleep.

u/walt_disnae · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

It would be cheaper to buy a stand. If you could live without the kickstand, it’s not that steady anyway.

u/HormonalWhore · 17 pointsr/shittykickstarters

I said this last time this project was on this sub, but I'll say it again: I can get this and this for $~70 and it will last longer than this $100+ device. Even if it does ship, I see no reason to buy this over something that likely works better that costs less.

Edit: the battery pack is on sale right now, which only makes this combo a better deal.

u/Ramacher · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

It's pretty stable, but I don't know about on the go since the back resting part is rigid and it's not collapsable. For traveling i'd say go with the hori adjustable and collapsable stand
