I've considered it, but the cost outweighs the benefits. A decent mech starts at $50 US. For 17-21 keys, not wireless, that's kind of a big ask.

I've tried a few others, but they all felt like garbage, and I gave up. I'd like to experiment with a lefty tenkey, but for now I'm fine with what I've got. Especially since I remapped that damned numlock key to Tab.

Running a Strafe RGB Silent Red at home, and a G710+ at work. The macro keys on the Logitech are basically the best thing that's ever happened to my work flow. Seriously, they're kinda useful for MMOs, but they need to market these things to businesses. Most of my audit team has Logitech G13s, and it's amazing.

For a controller the one to get is the Flydigi Wee 2. Other controllers like the Ipega 9087 have a similar form factor but they are janky compared to the Wee. The only other controller I would suggest is a XB1 but you said you already have a full size controller and the Wee 2 is definitely more compact.

For keyboards the most compact are things like the Rii X8. Great for controlling Kodi on your TV but not good for gaming. I suppose you could get a 2.4Ghz wireless mechanical numpad like this https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Mechanical-Financial-Accounting-Compatible/dp/B07NTJ78XT/ and that would be more compact but the game would have to support full rebinding of keys. Also at that price it would be better to get the 60% since it is more versatile.

Started out with a very simple (and super inexpensive on sale at Target; <$10) → Targus AKP10US.

Hardwire USB, 'just works' for the most part… the caveat being it keystrokes absolute bananas in certain apps e.g. in Evernote every number entered also deletes a line. They have a wireless version too (AKP11US), no experience with it so ymmv.

Certainly not perfect but switched to → Canon X Mark I Keypad since. It's a combo calculator & wireless (Bluetooth) keypad. While Alfred/Spotlight/etc. is still welcome for quick calculations, so nice to have a dedicated calculator always at the ready for more complex/chained numbering needs that simultaneously doubles as a full-size wireless numpad (with a simple single-button mode switch). Sometimes a teeny delay if you're whipping fast in keypad mode however but found the 'workaround' of just leaving it in calc mode and hitting the Send key always keeps up with me (essentially it fires the whole string in one shot versus individually as inputting). I alternate modes depending on needs/application. Caveats? Even though solar powered for calc, eats batteries if you leave it on Bluetooth (which I ashamedly do *all the time*). Solution is simply having a series of rechargeable NiMH batteries nearby. Also miss the Tab button of Targus and it's ilk. Those Satechi's look real nice though… Hope any of this helps and here's to some happier hands.

no touchpad? I've trained myself to use the touchpad nicely, but yeah a number pad is necessary if you're using a number pad all day. Maybe there's a number pad with a USB slot for a mouse? I've seen USB keyboards with USB slots for mice ... you could upgrade your entire keyboard and gain a slot in the process!

Modern laptops don't have comfortable keyboards, since they are to tall and heavy. For old school civ you want a good num pad, with a nice feel. A old school style data entry numpad external is the best imho

So it's not like it's because they're starving and desperately need the money. I wouldn't mind paying that much in the end but it really annoyed me, they're charging whatever they feel like because they know they can get away with it. Price gouging 101.

I had some problems using two of them, but someone suggested moving the receivers away from each other so I did that with a cable extender and haven't had any problems since. If you need the analog sticks and don't mind wired, the iNnext classic controller is also a great option at <$20. It has a more comfortable grip than the 8bitdo pro controllers. If you don't need the analog sticks a standard 8bitdo controller is really really tough to beat.

They're not macro pads but they're good numpads if that's all you need.

This is my CS degree and decade of IT experience speaking: Get a Mac. Anyone who says macs aren't for business, hasn't read anything since 1993. Anything a Windows machine can do, a Mac can do better. Most software is cross platform or through the browser, so there won't be any compatibility issues.

I always purchase from Apple's certified refurbished store - can save a lot and still get full warranty coverage.

I see. I just tried it, and when I assign 2 4 6 8 while having NumLock on, the game looks in the direction but it also does whatever I assigned it to. With numlock off, the game doesn't look in the direction but it replaces 2 4 6 8 with up down left right and does the action I assigned it to do as well. It works fine for me.

Not really. You'd need to get a 15.6" laptop for that and the U530 costs quite a bit more.

You can get an external 10 key if that makes it easier.

I don't think any artist would attempt to use the surface with the keyboard attached out in front. It's just not practical but there are ways as I have shown you to get the shortcut functionality.

They tend to cost somewhere around that. But there are a few other options. You can buy a rubber dome one for dirt cheap ~10-20 USD.

If you are handy with a soldering iron you can buy whatever switches you like and hook it up with a teensey. Would cost somewhere in the ballpark of 50 dollars without a case.

There's also these things out there.

The only other option I can think of is buying something with macro keys from craigslist or something similar. At least in my area you can find Razers or the G710+ all day at around 50 USD.

This is what you're looking for.

I know the teensey can easily be used as hid input, but you'd still have to have a wire. Not sure what's you have to do to make it wireless. Possibly use it as a receiver then have another arduino or teensey with a transmitter at the location you wanted hooked into the pad.

First Google result tells me that it's about 30 bucks. But the point is, I need both wireless mouse and keyboard, and both device require me to trade off between the comfort of my back and my wrist.

I actually have a Wiimote, and besides its unreliable connection which unfortunately seems unfixable, the number of buttons is limited to me, which is the result of not making use of both hands.
