Here you go my friend: Here is my full ankle mobility routine. I'd recommend performing minimum 3x/week. However for best results you should do everyday with one rest day/week. Takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

A. Self-myofascial release

(a) Foam roll calf

(b) Stick roll calf & anterior tibialis (can be foam rolled)

(c) Roll plantar fascia

(d) Foam roll groin & guads (only really necessary if you're also working on hip mobility)

B. Joint Distractions

(a) Banded ankle distractions (front & back)

(b) Hip distractions (only really necessary if you're also working on hip mobility)

C. Goblet Squats w/ankle stretch

  • Use a kettle bell/dumbell/small person and hold them in front of you while you squat with good form.
  • Hold the squat for 1 minute
  • At the end, lean into each ankle, pushing the knee forward over the toes, using the goblet to perform a weighted stretch. Hold for 5-10seconds.

    D. Stretches - 3 sets of 30-60s

    (a) Downward dog

    (b) Stretch board ankle stretch - if you don't have one of these use a rolled up towel, pillow or hang off the edge of a step. They are a fantastic investment though if you have poor ankle flexibility - amazon

    (c) Soleus wall stretch

BOOM! And you're done! Make sure to test and retest using the knee-to-wall test each time to make sure you are making progress.

At work, I was introduced to the amazing invention that is foot rests. It honestly makes your posture and comfort sitting in a chair so much better (is this how normal people felt sitting their entire lives?!). I loved it so much I bought my own for my home desk. I got something like this and it's fantastic!

u/Lumumba · 1 pointr/battlestations

oh, haha! what you are seeing is a foot stool:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000AI45T

Actually a great little thing to have around. It helps to keep my legs at 90 degree angles and push my back up against my chair.
I had realized I would often put my feet on my chair legs or even sit cross legged in my chair - this is much better.
EDIT: wow the price sure went up on Amazon, I got this for $50 a few a months ago

u/marypies78 · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I have traveled to Europe quite a few times now (my sister & her family live in England. Here are some things I wish I knew beforehand -

1- Check the airlines website for the size (dimensions) of carry-on luggage allowed. It is usually smaller than what is allowed on domestic flights.

2- You can only have one small see through bag (like a quart sized zip lock bag) to hold all liquids with you (not in your checked bags). ALL liquids have to all be in that one bag when going through security. My first time in London Heathrow I almost missed my flight home - it took an hour the extra security screening (security goes through all your carry-on & personal item/purse. I had a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse that I forgot to put in the bag. If it doesn't all fit in the quart sized bag, put it in your checked luggage.

3 - Download the airline's app to your phone. You can check into your flight before getting to the airport & save some time standing in line.

4 - Take at least 2 pens! There is paperwork to fill out, and the folks in customs never have extras & they just dgaf - you're on your own. Take a few pens in case some poor soul like me is in line with you & didn't pack one.

5 - Get a little cash in the currency of any country you'll be in for emergencies (including layovers) or take more than one credit card. I was coming home one time & had a long layover in Nova Scotia. I had gotten rid of all my cash & didn't even have US $, I only took one credit card that trip. Guess when the bank decided there may be fraudulent activity on my card? Yep, apparently sometime over the Atlantic. I had slept through the in-flight meal & I was then stuck in the airport with no money for 5 hours starving & jet lagged.

I also would recommend packing cubes if you don't have them! It's astounding how much room they save.

One thing I have that is absolutely not necessary is a foot hammock. It hangs from the tray table in front of you. Made flying coach for 10 hours immeasurably more comfortable.

u/DRHPSL05 · 1 pointr/short

I have a plastic bin under my desk that I rest my feet on most of the time, but I like my feet up high. My feet dangle too (like you mentioned - I have to keep my chair high enough that I can comfortably use the keyboard and mouse). You can find step stools of different sizes at HomeGoods, Marshalls, etc, or Walmart/Target. It doesn't have to be something fancy and expensive. This cushion looks comfy.

Good luck! I know it's a pain. It's something I don't even think about anymore b/c I've had the same set-up for so long, but it was really tough when I was pregnant to find a comfortable solution.

Here's the footrest. The memory foam feels amazing, especially during long sessions. You can also adjust the angle of the footrest very easily to get that perfect fit. Definitely would recommend it.

u/julieannie · 1 pointr/GiftIdeas

I'm thinking of a mix of practical and beautiful, where you can mix and match at your price points:

u/FubsyGamr · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

I finally have a thread I can contribute to. I have a whole set of tools, but none of them fit in a bag:

  • Keyboard & Mouse
  • Monitor for bigger display space
  • Wireless charger for my phone
  • Favorite coffee cup
  • Headphones
  • Foot rest swivel thingie - my work hands these out, and it's actually super comfy and helps with desk posture
  • Bottle of whiskey on the desk, just in case

But seriously, how many sysadmins carry random cables and flash drives these days? Wouldn't that fall to someone like a NOC technician or something?
u/EntireInternet · 2 pointsr/Paleo

Wasn't quite what I expected when looking for meal ideas this morning, but... I've used a standing desk for four or five years now. I've used drafting chairs and the kickstand stool like you linked (tip: save hundreds and make it yourself; this is a good companion footrest).

Both of them are okay for fixed-height standing desks but I just bought the IKEA crank-based adjustable height desk. I can only use the stool (or stand) for a limited amount of time, and the drafting chairs just aren't as good as the better normal-height desk chairs. With the adjustable desk, I can invest in a good quality desk chair for sitting but still switch to standing whenever I want.

I still stand, and use my seat-on-a-stick, but I also wanted to take good care of myself when I needed to sit so I think the adjustable desk is worth it.

As an aside, if you want to terrify observers and get a little bit more exercise, I often pair my seat-on-a-stick with one of these. I've only fallen once...

u/Kasarii · 1 pointr/battlestations

My idea isn't really for looks but more about comfort. Having a foot rest is really nice in my opinion. It helps with circulation on the back of your legs after sitting for long periods of time.

edit: There's also this type as well

u/troggbl · 1 pointr/vive_vr

This is the chair i have that I've replaced the cushions for better support with.
I have it fairly far back compared to a "proper" typing position (far enough it would be called unprofessional in an office setting) and then my legs are pretty much at the same angel with a footstool like that.

I have the armrests at full height and pulled back and my forearms rest pretty much perfectly on them ending at my wrist.

The only time I have problems is if I drop something and the game doesnt have a jumpy pickup system. That can be pretty annoying/painful sometimes.

And not really sure what a hybrid board would be, but if I have to support my weight its pretty much a no go as I'd need my walking sticks.

u/bui1t · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Ah still good! I highly recommend memory foam arm rests, as well as foot rest. I spend a lot of hours on the PC and these help tremendously.

u/sonsofaureus · 1 pointr/Workspaces

It seems like a keyboard tray is out of favor and it's just hard to find a desk with one, meaning you might have to face trade-offs regarding other features of the desk.
Screwing in a keyboard tray is pretty easy, and you just have to make sure the screw you use is shorter than the thickness of the desktop, so it doesn't poke through.
Also, if desk height is an issue because of your height, maybe a height adjustable chair (with no arm rest) with a foot rest might be a work-around?

u/RemasteredBonusTrack · 2 pointsr/dysautonomia

Another vote for compression stockings.

I also use a desk footrest like this one. It gives some elevation and encourages me to move my feet around.

I kick my shoes off under the desk, just to help keep my feet from turning into loaves in shoes.

u/ProximtyCoverageOnly · 1 pointr/battlestations

Yeah I used to do the same. Partially why I got it. It’s this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Under-Non-Slip-Ergonomic-Footrest-Cushion/dp/B01BRU9CDW

I like it and use it constantly. It’s a nice change of pace for your feet if you’re sitting there for hours with feet flat on the ground.

u/chriszimort · 1 pointr/battlestations

The foot rest is a game changer for me personally. I’m 5’9” and with my chair leaning back my feet didn’t touch the ground. This fixed that, plus it is really nice and cushy. I got one used for like $25 on amazon. It looks white in the pics but the one I got was gray. I spray painted it white to match my setup.

5 foot 5.5 inches and I'm heavy. I don't do gaming chairs (nothing against them just never found them practical). I just do general office chairs and I look for one that rated around 50-100 lbs more then I am. I also look for chairs with a metal base since I find them more durable. As for my feet not reaching that isn't a problem for me because I use the desk foot rests because I find I am more comfortable with my feet elevated an extra 6-8 inches. I generally try to find office chairs that are rated for at least 6-8 hour a day sitting because they are built sturdier. I'm a very utilitarian type gal. I can't even tell you what my current chair is because I have no clue but I did get it from an office store since they rate their chairs by hours of usage so you know the durability before you buy. This isn't the exact foot rest brand I have but it is similar. Maybe it will help with the whole feet not meeting the ground thing. https://www.amazon.com/Under-Non-Slip-Ergonomic-Footrest-Cushion/dp/B01BRU9CDW/ref=sr_1_25?qid=1574657430&s=office-products&sr=1-25

Lol. Yeah, it's the older version of this one

u/CollinHell · 1 pointr/UpliftingNews

You're right, and of course I have had a few people be understanding. The only problem then is that the more understanding they are, the more I feel like a dick for using the space. I'm a fit young guy and feel like nobody really believes me when I talk about pains like an old man, even if mine are self-inflicted by not going to enough physical therapy...

Until I get old enough or bold enough to not feel like an ass taking up the whole armrest, I'll just continue asking if they'd like to use this thing with me. Fingers crossed I sit next to you on my next trip, haha!

I think the amazon basics one https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01DN8TG46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qHFLDbTR4EHFY
Is good, if you don't mind that it can tilt back/front.

I do the same thing. This helped out so much keeping my wall clean. This one if you go shoe-less when at your desk.

What kind of foot stool do you have? A soft one like this?

u/kimswatermelongun · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I have the same one. Link here. It's great. I was always trying to rest my feet on my case or subwoofer, both of which have sharp corners. You won't regret getting one, but you might have to vacuum it every few weeks.

u/kittykatmax · 1 pointr/Ergonomics

You could try something like this - just pay attention to the various height options (4-6 inches, depending upon model). It's only $19 at Amazon.

Helped me a bunch I work a lot at a desk and I have felt that pain for ages your body can't place all the weight equally onto your legs and often it's essentially focused on the chair itself this helps with that issue. Don't really know how it completely helps but did for me

Most of the short folks I've worked with have a footrest under their desk, or use a chair with a foot ring.

This is the hammock I use. The mounts are hidden in this picture, one of them is behind my case and the other behind the plant.

This: AmazonBasics Foot Rest - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DN8TG46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_YpJlKxucLKYOL

Just a simple footrest

I tried that Ikea foot rest and found it flimsy and small. The alternative I went with that's more utilitarian-looking, but also far sturdier: AmazonBasics Foot Rest.

I use this, except it didn't cost $35.

its $30. its above average in price compared to the others. Thats why i ask the firmness of it. I dont like memory foam ones as they tend to be too soft.

That's what I was thinking. I looked at this and this, from the reviews I'm leaning toward the latter even though it's not adjustable. Thanks for the advice!

4’ 11” here. I second the footrest. This is the one I have. I would also put my feet up on the chair because it hurt my legs to sit back until I realized how much it was affecting my posture.
