A friend introduced me to collecting/listening to vinyl records late last year/early this year(so I'm still a newb, but please hear me out). We'd get together at his place and undergo the ritual of taking the record out of the sleeve, placing it on the turntable, powering the turntable on, running a brush over it to remove dust/prevent static(and damage from static) and finally dropping the needle before sitting back and listening to the music. When the music ends you get up, flip the record, and repeat the previous processes before putting the record back into the sleeve and either putting on another record or going on about your day.

I'm now in the process of buying/setting up my own turntable after purchasing my first vinyl records earlier this year(if you save up around $500.00 USD. there will be a lot of decent "entry level" turntable/speaker options open to you) and will soon learn all the rituals involved in taking care of a turntable, speakers, etc. Other vinyl-involved rituals involve record hunting at local music/thrift stores, finding collectibles online, and caring for your records.

Aside from the rituals involved with vinyl, I really enjoy how vinyl is tied into so many different things; especially art. A lot of people display their records in frames or shelves and make beautiful "record walls" you can change around as needed. Vinyl is also regaining popularity with people into graphic novels A.K.A. comic books) and as somebody who enjoys reading in that format I like the thought of being able to read a a graphic novel about the music industry that comes paired with a soundtrack.

The "vinyl experience" has become fun hobby to me. You'll have no shortage of rituals, audio and visual enjoyment, and excitement as you find that record to your favorite soundtrack or find a record in a store that has one of your favorite songs. It is a bit pricey to get into but I'm hoping you consider the hobby and put in some of your own research.

Hoping I've helped you, O.P.

My collection is pretty modest in size, but I still think one Detolf would not be enough to display each figure nicely. I like admiring the work on all my figures hence the generous amount of space for each shelf. That and Black Heart is huge so she demands a shelf for herself.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083R3DHO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the three-tier riser for the most of my nendos. It does get pretty tight with the stand's arm, but its been working pretty well for me.

So basically it's a cheap way to cram everything into a small space and still have it usable.

The JDXI is sitting on 2 IKEA Laptop stands which get it up enough to put either the beatstep in front or my launchkey49 if I need that. Only downside is it puts it at a little too steep on an angle for my liking and with the mixer that's there it's too close to the headphone jack so some knobs are not optimally placed. (currently using my old belkin iPod recording dock as a mixer since I packed my actual mixer away during the last move and can't find it for the life of me.)

I made the Volca stand from some scrap wood I had after making my drum kit riser. It's not expert carpentry by any means but it works.

The keystep is tucked away on a pullout computer keyboard tray I got off Amazon.

The mixer and mininova are on a clamp on multi-tier laptop stand I also got off Amazon.

I can also thank Amazon for the cheapo "monitors" and headphones which actually have great sound quality for being under $200 altogether. For what I need in this temporary apartment, they get the job done.

Also notice most of it isn't plugged in, as the baby finds cluttered cables irresistible and rips everything off the desk. (Hence the now permanent "baby jail" surrounding my entire setup.) More for her safety than anything since she likes to use the drums as a jungle gym and has whacked her head on it without learning it is solid and unforgiving.

Hope this is what you were looking for!

u/NewToTheRedClub · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ikea markus, and dxracer chairs are pretty good. I personally have a dxracer chair, they're pretty good and comfy, orange to be exact haha. You can't go wrong with either. You could even look for used chairs such as steelcase or herman miller on ebay, craigslist and the like. I'd recommend getting this for the arms of the chair, they're very comfortable and worth the price. If you have any questions let me know I'm glad to help!

u/jak07h · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Thanks - I built the top out of red oak but the hydraulic legs are made by Jarvis which you can buy here. The memory board that comes with it is great. You can save up to 4 different heights.

The table-top they sell is actually really great as well. I have it at my office which somewhat inspired this build.

u/EeK09 · 1 pointr/aoe

You're more than welcome, I'm glad to help!

I totally understand your position regarding the K63. As I said, if you already have a good pair of keyboard and mouse, that device isn't worth the investment. I only mentioned it because I thought you were more interested in a true lapboard rather than a "lap desk".

I actually purchased a couple of lap desks in the past, but with my laptop in mind: this one and this one.

The second one is really good for laptops when you're lying in bed or on the couch, but I wouldn't recommend it for kb/m use. As for the first option, it works much better as an actual desk replacement, and there's a larger sized version that could be perfect for you, depending on your intended use.

Are you planning on using that desk while sitting on the couch, like Paul does on the video I linked? Then I can vouch for it. If you're thinking about using it while lying down, however, that desk is still too "tall" and uncomfortable to use, even at its lowest height setting.

The one you linked also looks like a nice option, but I'm concerned about those legs - they look rather flimsy. If you're going to support it on a solid base, like a coffee table, it probably won't be an issue. But if you're actually balancing the table on the sofa's cushions, then I'd suggest going for something a little more robust.

Thank you for the giveaway, lots of good games here!

I am interested in Mafia 2! I've played the demo over and over again for hours, but I have always wanted to play the full game.

I keep comfortable in my long gaming sessions using a way that might help you too. I have back problems, so I bought a seat cushion designed for that, and I place it on top of my gaming chair- That usually helps!

The neighborhood watch is a really good idea. If ur able to talk with the people that live directly by you, next door, across the hall, and let them know what has happened, possibly exchange numbers so you have people right by you to call if u get spooked. Maybe some can even step outside their apartment when you get home from work and wait till you get inside.

Also there are many different products like this doorjam hopefully I did the link correctly 1st time I’ve done one but that might help you feel little more secure. This is just an example I haven’t researched them so don’t know which ones are most effective.

Weird situation. I would think if people wanted to break in or do something else they wouldn’t draw so much attention to themselves beforehand but who knows. Glad your husband got some time off to stay with you. Sorry u have to deal with this idiot. I hope it stops and things get better for you guys, be safe.

u/kerosene31 · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

I just looked for sales on Amazon. The problem is that prices can vary a lot (and spending a lot doesn't mean you get a great chair).

I bought this one in 2017, but I spent only $120 on it, not the $220 it is now. I love it, but wouldn't have spent twice as much on it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EUU5G82/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you happen to live near an office supply place (if retail still exists), they usually have floor models you can try out. Otherwise, I just watch Amazon for sales (again obviously prices really vary) and look for something that looks good. Ordering online unfortunately involves taking a little leap of faith as you can't try it out.

It doesn't hurt to throw in a little support for the backside as well. I cracked a tailbone when I was younger (a real pain in the a**!) so one of these are cheap and really make those longer sessions more comfortable.

You're gonna get into a gaming chair vs buy a used herman miller / other brand expensive office chair debate in this thread.

For a straight up gaming chair, I have a SecretLabs Omega gaming chair, and I really like it. It was about $300, is nicer than some of the cheaper chairs, and the bolsters aren't too crazy so you can sit in it like a human, it's not like a 'racing' chair like some of the gaming chairs. I recommend it. I am a 5'10 male about 200 lbs.

I would make sure whatever you get has at least these options:

  1. Adjustable lean for the whole chair, so the butt and back move together

  2. Separate, adjustable back, like a car seat, where you can also just adjust the back

  3. Arm wrests that can be at least adjusted up and down (the Omega can adjust up down, left-right, and forward-back)

  4. Make sure the piston is rated for your weight, example if you weigh 200 lbs, look for a chair rated like 225 lbs or more to be safe. Otherwise the piston may die after a few years.

I also use one of these on the chair, helps the tailbone out.

u/MyParentsAre_Cousins · 1 pointr/battlestations

Thanks for the suggestion. That seems fairly reasonable and would fit my desk well.

This is the desk frame I have. The suggested max dimensions is 85"x44" and I would love to take full advantage of that. I tend to accumulate a lot of stuff and I love having a lot of space to spread out. Plus I'm hoping to double the space as a work bench for crafts and stuff.

My end goal, if I had a living space to allow it, is to get two of these frames and have an L shaped desk with a set of shelves between and over head. This would give me a lot of room to work on projects and have all my stuff organized.

u/________null________ · 2 pointsr/IKEA

I would recommend a desk top with a larger depth like the gerton. The 24” depth of the table top you linked is really meant for counter spaces and the like. Desks usually have a greater depth. When you mentioned have dual monitor arms, that also led me to believe you would need a bit more depth. I have the gerton top, and it’s just enough with my dual monitors, keyboard, and trackpad.

I would also recommend and electric raising and lowering desk stand like this: VIVO Black Electric Stand Up Desk Frame Workstation, Single Motor Ergonomic Standing Height Adjustable Base (DESK-V102E) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KGDGNK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aDKFDbXKK2EK6
These are nice in case you decide you don’t like the height at any specific point, or if you decide to stand for a bit. On top of that, they are extremely sturdy and take up less room than using drawers as legs on either end.

u/lNTERLINKED · 8 pointsr/buildapc

I've got This one.

It's a great chair for the money. Good back/lumbar support, breathable material, adjustable arms. All round really nice chair and comfortable for long sessions.

If you have any questions about it i'd be happy to answer them.

u/Franck_Dernoncourt · 1 pointr/speechrecognition

As far as I know Dragon NaturallySpeaking (now renamed Dragon Professional Individual since version 15) is significantly more accurate than Kaldi, but I have never investigated Kaldi thoroughly: it isn't plug-and-play.

I personally use Dragon NaturallySpeaking and have defined a bunch of simple voice commands. When coding, I use a mixture of voice commands and typing. The best source of information on Dragon that I am aware of is http://knowbrainer.com/forums/forum/index.cfm? I haven't taken the time yet to explore Dragon NaturallySpeaking's extension Vocola and Natlink: they may make defining voice commands more efficient and powerful.

It's a shame that Baidu/Google/Microsoft, who all the claim to match human performances for speech recognition, do not have any decent speech recognition program to use on a computer (a speech rotation program that could be used anywhere in the OS, and not just in the browser or in some specific applications).

Like I said though, have never had a problem

u/MrsCantankerous · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

I'm so sorry! I've been dealing with this for about half my pregnancy too. First thing that helped me, was a Coccyx Cushion: https://www.amazon.com/ComfiLife-Coccyx-Orthopedic-Cushion-Sciatica/dp/B010TLSFA6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478044291&sr=8-2&keywords=coccyx+cushion. It helps a lot. I also started physical therapy and acupuncture and I've found them both to be immensely helpful. While I felt the most relief from a heating pad, my physical therapist told me that icing the area is better because the sciatica is caused by inflammation. Good luck!

I bought this

But these are optional, I just love the feel of these wheels.

u/splatterhead · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'm not a big guy, and they're kinda expensive, but I got a HERCULES Series 500 lb. Capacity Big & Tall Black Fabric Executive Swivel Office Chair with a set of caster wheels and it's the best chair I've ever had. Super comfy and easy to roll around.

u/how_does_i_reddit · 1 pointr/buildapc

It really shouldn't fall over. Everybody I know has it normally and I have never heard of putting it on its side, but I imagine it would raise temps a bit. If you put it on the dresser you should have less issues with dust which will keep temps lower and you won't have to clean it as often. This also goes with putting it on top of the desk. If the first two aren't options then just put it under the desk but try to not have it directly on the ground. Something like this could help with that and make it easy to move around. I wish I had one of those haha I might just have to order one now that I think about it.

u/plunix · 1 pointr/bapccanada

I hear really good things about this one

http://www.staples.ca/en/Staples-Hyken-Technical-Mesh-Task-Chair-Black/product_990119_1-CA_1_20001

AND it's on sale RIGHT NOW! But do your own research first.

http://www.staples.ca/en/Staples-Bilford-Manager-s-Chair-Black/product_388248_1-CA_1_20001

The above is the one I own. I got it on sale for about $150 as well.

Mine can tilt the seat / back together simultaneously, or I can tilt the back separately as a recliner. This feature was very important for me when I went to purchase. It's better for comfort if you ask me.

I use it for gaming often. But I bought a foam seat cushion as well. I'll probably upgrade to one of those coccyx cushions in the future.

https://www.amazon.com/Coccyx-Orthopedic-Memory-Foam-Cushion/dp/B00V2L5JRA/ref=pd_sbs_201_2?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=VB3NA457G25N4RSBKT8J&th=1

If you talk to Staples staff they can usually tell you if an item is planning to go on sale within 2 weeks / 1 month timeframe. So buy with confidence and price-match.

u/Magic_DanielSh · 3 pointsr/vinyl

I am not sure if you are traveling in a single location or multiple areas for your work, but either way I would scout the area and locate various points of interest. Police, medical, fire, grocery/supply stores. Also educate yourself about possible natural risks such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornados and flesh out a plan for what you would do in such an event. See if the hotel has a evacuation plan for emergencies and review it.

Do you have a door wedge security device for your hotel, it will increase your safety in the room and help prevent intrusion. Something like this

Not an answer to your question exactly, but have you considered upgrading your casters instead? I'm not sure if it's truly better over multiple years at protecting your carpets over a mat, but I've LOVED having them on my office chair and can't see any visible wear on the carpets.

u/Free_Dome_Lover · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Get a regular chair of your choosing, whether you want a fancy task chair like a herman miller, steel series or a "gamer" chair is up to you. I really enjoy my AK Racing Obsidian series, it's quite ergonomic and comfortable.

Then grab some really good casters with breaks. Something like this with rollerblade style wheels https://www.amazon.com/SunnieDog-Office-Chair-Caster-Wheels/dp/B01CGZPOK2 .

u/oDUMBLEWHOREo · 5 pointsr/GirlGamers

I personally look for a desk to hold two 27 inch monitors and a long mouse pad. I don’t really like the keyboard trays cause I move my hand around with my mouse and wouldn’t want it to be on a different level than my keyboard (if that makes sense).

I like a basic desk. No shelves/storage stuff. I have tried those before and it was a mess. One thing I invested in so I wouldn’t have my desk holding my PC was a PC caddy. Cost around $10. Incredibly helpful so you have maximum desk space. I got mine off Amazon. Also I sit on my legs A LOT and personally hate sitting “normal” when gaming. So I got a little foot hammock so I can have my feet off the ground and stretched out and comfortable.

Here are the things I mentioned in my post:

I post this for everyone I see a chair with those wheels...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CGZPOK2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are the ones I purchased. I see that they've increased in price quite a bit. I'm sure you can find similar on amazon for less or just opt for these as the company offers "Lifetime Warranty".

Also...possibly a mouse pad for both of you? Or how about a full desk pad.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CPX9RCQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is what I use (I use the 36x18) I would opt for 2 of the 36x12 "Pro Heavy" ones.

Hope these 2 suggestions improve your area and comfort!

I opted to buy these because of the high number of reviews with good ratings. I figured I already spent $300 on a chair, might as well get a good set of wheels for them. Although the ones you linked above looks pretty good too.

One of the best office upgrades I've done. Way better than those shit plastic wheels.

u/jupigare · 1 pointr/amiibo

I echo the other user who said any start is a good start.

As for storing/displaying them, a lot of people with OOB collections buy the baseball bat display from Michael's, which mounts to the wall and can hold about 12 amiibo. They are pricey, but Michael's often has coupons (like BOGO deals) to bring down the price.

Others buy the DETOLF display case from IKEA and have tiered risers (like these Azar ones) to help comfortably fit more amiibo on each shelf. I plan on doing this, but I'm looking for a display case about twice as wide as the DETOLF. I have enough floor space to spare.

Or you can get cheaper risers (Walmart sells a bamboo spice rack that works great) and put that on any spare shelf you have at home.

u/Dredge6 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Think about that for a second.

Your PSU pulls air from the bottom, but it sits on the floor.

Now I'm just a big nut for air flow and cooling efficiency, but if you care about it as much as I do get this

When I got mine I just ripped the wheels out and put it under my tower. It gives about an inch of clearance from the ground which just makes me feel better about airflow.

I recently bought this (actually 2 days ago) and I'm loving it! It's big, is a flexible chair in that it's not a static chair. You can flex yourself back and it bends. Has height settings with handle. It's fairly comfy for it's price point. I can take my feet off the ground and snuggle in this thing and watch movies/etc on my PC. I like it a lot.

And the assembly takes 15-20 mins (no additional tools required on your end of course) it's so easy. Good luck on whatever you end up with!

If you're planning on getting every single amiibo and have the space, I really recommend just getting this, as its a lot cheaper than buying those cases:

Can fit the entire series. Recommend buying stands to display the amiibos better, like a couple of these:

My home setup I still have an l-shaped glass and steel desk (I prefer glass for how cold to the touch it is and clean it looks), triple monitor, desktop pc on the centerpiece, and an older 32 inch lcd tv with a setup for my laptop or projects on the other desk to my right. If I were to do it over again, I would get one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Workstation-Ergonomic-Adjustable-DESK-V102E/dp/B071KGDGNK/

And go to home depot and get a big 24x48x2 piece of wood, sand it, stain it till it's good, do a thin polyurethane top coat, etc...

https://www.amazon.com/ECHOGEAR-Triple-Monitor-Mount-Screens/dp/B079NNC2YQ/

And use this for my 3 monitors at home, instead of the stand I currently have. Fixed mounts with a curve, all the way. For value if I were doing a new build, I would get 3 of these as my monitors:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1102898-REG/dell_s2715h_27_1920x1080_led_monitor.html

I prefer 1080p as it's still the end-user style often used.

https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Charging-Specific-Thunderbolt-DisplayPort/dp/B0779K9DG2/

This is the dock I would use for the triple monitor setup. Displayport-to-hdmi cables are all over the place, adapters too. Cheap. This dock does some modest charging, but these Plugable ones have been super solid in our workplace so far.

This is from an earlier reply I've made.

picture of the door (also yes, the color is ugly, but I'll repaint it at some point).

You can do what I do.

Door Table! All you do is buy a door, buy some adjustable legs, a screw-in keyboard tray if you feel like it, and screw those motherfuckers together!

Advantages

  • It's a stable table. You got a solid core wood door. None of that hollow core cheap shit. I can stand on mine if I want (and I am a pretty goddamn big guy).

  • You can make it whatever height or size you want. Want it to be half the size? They can and will cut it down to size for you at the hardware store. Want it to be twice as high? Adjust those legs whatever size you want! That's why they're adjustable!

  • Dirt fucking simple to make. Some hardware stores might even do the work for you in the store. All you have to do is predrill the screw holes and screw the legs in. That is really it is to it. Took me about two hours on mine, and I don't do any kind of handyman work.

  • It's a massive table (if you don't cut it down). It's more of a work bench then a table. If you look at the picture, I have room for my dual screen monitor setup with room to spare. If I need to work on a separate project, I just glide to the left on my office chair.

  • It's modular. Need to move it? Unscrew the legs from the mounting bracket, you're done! Need drawers, just buy some ones on wheels you can slide under it. Need a keyboard bracket, just buy one and screw it. Want cable management? It's just wood! Drill a hole!

    Parts

    Door

Door - $66. Note that this one does not have a finish coat, the one I bought did (it's pretty easy to paint, or find one that has a basic weather coat). Can't see anything in america (my one was made in australia).

edit: same door with white primer

Obviously, you'd have to pay for the entire door even if you do cut it down. That being said, it already has a finish coat, and for the quality of the wood (and the fact it is already in a table shape) it is worth the $66.

    legs

Ikea GERTON adjustable leg * 4 - $25 each, for $100. Amazon also has a heap of legs, but your mileage may vary (example)

if you are going to cut it down to half the size (or less) you can use these half-diameter legs and save some space/money:
    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30264301/

    accessories

And that's about it! You can add a fifth leg if you want the extra support, but you don't need it. All that is left is a keyboard tray, like this.

Once you're all said in done, for a couple hours of work, you will have an extremely sturdy and customizable desk. It's also hell of a lot cheaper to do then to buy a premade desk.

I'd Highly Recommend Them

I have one for my overwatch collection as well. They're both around my entertainment Center and it looks great.

u/MR_Weiner · 1 pointr/woodworking

I'm planning on making an adjustable height desk from a Jarvis frame and one of two Ikea table tops. I'd like to install a hanging drawer on the bottom of the desk for my midi piano keyboard toward the back -- so that it's out of my way when I'm working, but can slide out when I want to use it.

Since the desk is going to be 25"-30" deep, I figure I'll need slides that extend to about 40". The keyboard is 11bs (and about 40" wide) and I can't imagine the material for the drawer/tray will weigh too much, but all of the slides I can find at this length are pretty expensive and rated for 200+ lbs.

Any suggestions on less expensive options of with a length of around 40"? Also, the desks are only 1 1/8" thick -- so I'm wondering if 3/4" screws will be enough to support the weight of the drawer.

I'm so excited for you all as well! I've reached the weird final detail stages as I'm currently gluing a plate to a candle holder to make a tall "cake stand" for our pie topper dinosaurs to go on the dessert table. I need to make one final ribbon curtain as I weirdly spazzed and thought I had already made it (nope). Need to pack all the stuff that is currently taking up the dining table (this rolling cart thing is a godsend when moving items in bins). FH and I are going on an adventure day on Tuesday to get our marriage license, a massage, and try out a float tank. Have such an awesome time at your shindigs, everyone!

u/Tallyburger · 4 pointsr/amiibo

It looks so small though! I think the overall small size would bother me. I have a bookshelf in my room - I don't use it for Amiibo though, since I have Michaels baseball bat cases - but it's normal size one that I feel looks a lot better. This is mine here. Could most likely use those clear stands like this or something too.

u/MMfuryroad · 1 pointr/hometheater

Yup, This is like the one I use for my 65 inch Sony X930E. i see the one you linked says up to a 55 inch but I'd just check the VESA pattern and weight limit and go from there. The one I use has the double steel tubes and is rated up to 100 pounds. I don't have mine behind a shelf/cabinet though just freestanding with the wheels locked down. Works great👍.

u/Scoutdad · 1 pointr/oculus

I just moved one of my kid's PC's to a carpeted floor to make room for a second monitor on his desk. I used one of these stands for $11 to keep it up a bit as the case is a big Fractal Design R5 and has a fan and filters on the bottom. Been working well but still need to be cautious rolling it as it is a big case. If your case does not have bottom airflow it is probably not necessary, but does help with accessing the back panel.

If you have the S be very careful with those controllers as many report they are not as durable as the controllers from the CV1. Some find a small mat in the center of their playspace helps keep them from venturing to far.

It's a pretty unconventional clash between this desk and these legs. I don't recommend those legs, honestly. They don't go low enough, so I have to raise my seat high to be comfortable, yet now my feet don't reach the floor. I'm 6ft.

Couple bits...

First, love the fact you've got 4U accommodation in there... SOMEONE is thinking ahead!

Before you get it TOO loaded down, take a look at those wheels... If those are hard plastic, you're going to scratch the fuck out of your floor if you ever go to move it. Rollerblade style casters are much friendlier in that regard...

You also might want to pull it away from the wall some... It's kind of amazing how much hot air those bastages can produce. Definitely want them to be able to breathe, otherwise the fans will just spin faster, making them even louder.

u/Komm · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

These are the ones I actually have, as far as I can tell they are all the same though. I just went with the ones I linked because the company is super helpful about stuff. Like I said though, far as I can tell, they are all the same caster.

Come to think of it, I need to order another pair. I've acquired yet another desk and chair, this time in the garage. Plastic casters ain't gonna hold up very long out there from experience.

I was in bed for the first two weeks and essentially housebound for 2-3 more. I did LOTS of PT in advance and thus I’m recovering ahead of schedule. And that means I’m finally now clear to walk as much as I can tolerate, which is about a mile a day of total steps. I can sit maybe 1.5h without too much pain on a good day. And I still live with ice packs multiple times a day and a heating pad for the spasming muscles in the rest of my leg and core.

Something like this was key https://www.amazon.com/Executive-Office-Solutions-Mount-Notebook-Macbook-Light-Sitting-Black/dp/B00RQ3JQMM/

You'd be better off staying in your dorm than venturing out in almost every situation. If I were you I'd get two or three of those collapsible 5 gallon water jugs (you can fill up form a showerhead or tub) and get at least two week's worth of dehydrated food or MREs. If you don't have a bathroom in your dorm room you should find some way to get rid of your urine/feces. A painters bucket from Home Depot with a top would do well, as long as you can dump it out your window if needed. I would stock up on baby wipes- more than you think you'd need- put those in the bucket. Get a crowbar and hammer so you can open up other rooms to forage if you need to- you can use pillow cases in the rooms to put things in. Get a can opener and a spoon. Get a baseball bat for defense- looks innocent enough on its own and won't raise hard to answer questions. Your dorm room has a solid door and you have all of your clothing and bedding there- so plan on bugging in and stay quiet. If you can afford it, get a [door jammer] (https://www.amazon.com/DoorJammer-Portable-Security-Device-Travel/dp/B00N95IVSQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1479072334&sr=1-3&keywords=door+security) to secure your door when you're in your room. Do not open your door to anyone or you risk losing what you have stocked up. Get duct tape and giant black lawn leaf bags so you can cover up windows if you have to. Have a small bag full of things to make [improvised alert system] (http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2014/09/05/detroit-fire-department-has-alert-system-made-of-pop-cans/77199950/) for your hallways.

All in all you could do all of this for under 200-300$ and it's all stuff that you can use when you get an apartment.

AHHHHH! Get that tower off the carpet and let it breathe. You don't have to try and put it on the desk or anything, but set it on a piece of wood that's big enough, or get a cart for it.

As far as carts go, I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SY-ACC65029-Castors-Plastic-Adjustable/dp/B003BYRO7O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396474720&sr=8-1&keywords=syba+cart

It does it's job well, and it's adjustable, so if circumstances change in the future, you can re-use it.

It's important to raise the tower up off of the floor a little bit, so the power supply fan can continue to draw air in from the outside of the case, to keep if from heating/burning up.

It'll force correct posture by not having a padded back to lean back on. Keep checking CL, Thrift stores, classifieds, and flea markets for deals. Make sure you google appropriate weight limits and such before making a purchase, or search the /r/BIFL forums for older posts on appropriate brands. EZ rule of thumb is if it MSRPs for 500+ and is sold to businesses directly. They're built to last.

I work in our spare bedroom as a "senior programmer/analyst" after having worked for this company for over 1.5 decades.

I try to go in roughly once a week, but I've only been in once in the last month, so they don't really care.

Get an adjustable desk and spend a lot of your day standing. With a $30 Ikea top and a $444 base off Amazon I've been spending roughly 9 - 3 standing (aside for lunch when I go sit with my wife) and then I'm tired and work another 2 - 3 hours sitting.

Pretty sure I have solid job security just because I know a ton of stuff that nobody else knows, and I actively seek out problems and fix them. My bosses know that things would be a lot rockier without me.

Honestly people. Stop buying into esport/streamer hype.

You want a comfortable chair? Keep your current one. Buy cushions that are designed to support your back/ass:

Currently using these two: For my tush and for my back. $40 turns your shitty chair into a dxracer with probably better armrests ( at least my $100 staples chair has cushioned armrests )

Don't buy into the hype. I'm sure they're nice chairs but $300? If you had that kind of money to dispose of then use it on your PC.

I have been using this stand that I purchased off of amazon for the last year. I was really impressed with the fit and finish during assembly. I have a 60" mounted to it and have nothing but good things to say about it. The convenience of being able to move it around to accommodate the optimal viewing angle from the living room, dining room and kitchen is so nice. I actually am disappointed now if I am somewhere where I don't have a perfect straight on view of the TV. The internal cable routing keeps everything on the ground and mostly out of sight, even on the back. Also, the wheels are very impressive. They appear to be too small and hard, but I have a very deep pile, shag rug and they roll across, on and off of it with ease. My only regret is I noticed they are now selling it in white, which would match better with my decor than the black one I currently have.

Replacing your office chair wheels with something like these is another option. They are much softer than the standard plastic ones, and tend to be better at not getting stuck / sliding on the floor.

u/filledwithgonorrhea · 3 pointsr/headphones

Alternatively, some rubber chair wheel like these. They're also much better on carpet than the wheely boi in the post.

u/Bricker1492 · 6 pointsr/legaladvice

Oh, no! Not anxiety?

Sadly, your anxiety is not a particularly relevant factor. The landlord generally has the right to do things like place lock boxes, which are a standard practice for realtors.

If it will help your anxiety, perhaps can invest in https://www.amazon.com/DoorJammer-Portable-Security-Personal-Protection/dp/B00N95IVSQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=DBZ8MUT2B9P6&keywords=door+jammer+portable+door+security+device&qid=1556402640&s=gateway&sprefix=doir+jammer&sr=8-3

This lets you secure your door from inside while you’re home, even in the face of a person armed with a key. You could then answer the door and confirm that it’s a real estate agent and not a ne’er-do-well.

But you have to let the agent in.

I bought a VIVO electric base a couple months ago and am extremely happy with it. Fairly priced IMO compared to other options on the market

No decent spot to mount, wife doesn't want in area where it would be watched. Only watch like 1x per week.

Could imagine putting on a tv stand, but need somewhere to stash that... I realize I have a ton of requirements, that's why the projector was attractive

They are well priced to if this in deed the correct one!

Not sure if your chair has caster wheels or not. If it does - these are specifically designed to solve your problem. It replaces the plastic crap that comes with your chair with a soft rollerblade wheel. I had this problem and this worked for me.

The TV stand is here on amazon. Little pricey but saves you drilling into the wall. Hope this helps.

u/Sparkisparki · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I use one of these on my carpet:

I love it.

Thanks! I found some record hanging shelves on amazon and got 2 sets of 6. Link here!

It looks great.

I got these (linked) for my regular office chair so that I wouldn't roll backwards when I press the peddles.

I use one of these for the PC in my carpeted living room. Works great.

u/flurrypuff · 17 pointsr/LetsNotMeet

I’m a fan of some sort of doorstop too. They even make products like this that you can even take when you travel!

I got some locking casters off of amazon; really effective and much less pricey than a stand+seat combo AGPTEK Office Chair Casters Heavy... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0716XS58X?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Maybe a little pricey but I think they're worth it when paired with the detolf.

u/Sp1derX · 1 pointr/DiscountedProducts

I got this one for $5 less. I love it, thought it tends to shift back on the seat some.

u/captainsquidshark · 3 pointsr/InstacartShoppers

to drop off orders at the customer? i use this and highly recommend it i keep it in my trunk and it folds/unfolds easy.

u/picmil · 1 pointr/lockpicking

There's only one solution to this problem.

Helicopter.

Or something like this: https://www.amazon.com/DoorJammer-Portable-Security-Personal-Protection/dp/B00N95IVSQ

u/Rollzroyce21 · 2 pointsr/criterion

I would've preferred they used the same height and length as the Bergman set so you could at least use the same shelf space for both.

I'm planning to get something like this to mount it on the wall, almost like a poster.

u/mathewryan · 3 pointsr/funkopop

If you have prime these are cheap and perfect. I dont know the width of your detolf though.

Edit- 4 pack for even cheaper.

u/rusty0123 · 134 pointsr/JustNoSO

Tomorrow, go down to your home improvement store and get an Angel lock. If that doesn't fit your door, look for a floor lock.

Keep your phone charged and keep it with you. Look up how long average police response times are in your neighborhood, and make plans accordingly.

Stay safe.

u/wanderlust_0 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

awesome. thanks so much. i'll go do this soon. there's a hardware store that's a 5 min walk.

So Do i get washers or nuts? aren't washers super thin? Do you think I could get 2 inches out of this? How about even more like 4 inches?

Here is my chair:

It's a pretty large one. Will the tork be too much when leaning back on the washers?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ZVHKJE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

PS: there's tons of youtube videos that show people easily removing the gas cylander from office chairs. but i've tried on the two i have and it's impossible even when I'm swinging the hammar so hard it almost damages the chair.

It's metal and sturdy. It also makes your computer look like it's levitating. Works great with the Fractal Design R5, but that's exactly as wide as it will get.

The Detolfs are from Ikea, around $60.
The idea isn't original, it came from this subreddit afterall.

u/Tenelli · 1 pointr/battlestations

Hey so I just got these rollerblade style casters in the mail today and they’re great!
The ones that come with the chair are decent enough. I just wanted to see if I could get a bit smoother roll with these.
They add about an 1 1/2” height and they do roll better than stock casters. Of course they void your warranty though since they’re not stock but yeah if you feel it doesn’t roll smooth enough for you on carpet. These are the ones I got.

u/DJMooray · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I was looking at this one is it good?
