Ooooh the best kind of reply I could have hoped for!

Sweet to neutral (no sugar added :P), bold flavors (no herbal teas), fruity, nutty, floral, wood, not astringent, not bitter. The more unique the better. I'm not too picky on characteristics but do care about overall quality.

Well, I have more black teas than I know what to do with; I don't see it on their website now but last year about this time I ordered a 5g sampler of every black tea Golden Tips had. I still have a box full in the garage, great stuff. (PM me if you want to trade for some)

----------

Besides black (though always looking for unique ones):

I love a bold white tea, currently drinking a cold brew of Tao of Tea's Silver Needle. It reminds me of a green tea without the grassy flavor, which is my big hangup with green teas.

I have actually ordered a green tea from YS before (through Amazon). I do not care for it on its own, not much flavor beyond 'grass', but I do like to mix a pinch of it into my cold brews to take the edge off.

I would love to try a good Oolong too. I bought one Da Hong Pao Big Red Robe Wuyi Oolong Tea Rock Tea (500g) but had the same experience as the pu-erh cake (see next paragraph), it tasted rotten and fishy with no tea flavor. I might have thrown it away I'm not sure, will have to go check.

I have one 2001 Menghai ripe pu-erh cake that I bought online and I absolutely hated it, I think I've only made 2-3 cups with it (357g cake). Tastes like rotting fish guts, cheap mushrooms, and dirt. With all the hype around pu-erh I would like to try a good one but I'm hesitant after that last experience. If anyone wants that Menghai cake I will happily trade it for the cost of shipping.

I also have 16oz of Davidson's bulk English Breakfast that I haven't touched in probably a year. It was my first 'real' tea order but now I'm spoiled and can't stand the stuff. While better than tea bags there is something 'off' about it and it generally tastes like hay or barley and not so much like tea.

I also keep some nice Yogic Chai on hand but generally only pull it out for when I'm sick or it is raining outside.

You can get decaf, but even decaf tea still contains some caffeine, and doesn't necessarily come in a large selection. If you want totally caffeine free you want herbal teas or tisanes, which aren't actually made from the tea plant at all. I love herbal teas, pretty much all of them are caffeine free (except for yerba mate or guayusa.)

Rooibos and honeybush are some good basic herbal teas, but here's a couple of my favorites herbals:

Teavana's Tranquil Dream, Capital Tea's Roasted Almond, Teavana's Rooibos Tropica, and some plain honeybush from Stash Tea

The tea bowl was a Christmas present from my parents, and I received the tea as part of my gift from this year's Reddit Secret Santa. So far I really like the bowl, it fits in my hands perfectly and the color is gorgeous. I think the water I used to brew the tea in was a little hot, because there's a slight bitter aftertaste to it, but other than that it's pretty mellow and yummy. Since I can't read the package the tea came in, I have no clue as to what it is, but the brewing instructions are in English, so that's nice. I just wanted to show the bowl off to people who would appreciate it...

Edit - I added more pictures of the tea to the album, so if you would like to find out what kind of tea it is for me, you have something to go off of. I'm like, 98% sure it's this tea, but I'm not entirely sure because the packaging on mine is slightly different than the one that is shown there.

I'd love some loose leaf tea for Mr sunshine_orchids and I! It will help increase productivity by getting us all hopped up on caffeine. :)

Thanks for the contest, friend!

What do you think about ingeuinitea?

Am I getting sucked into some gimmick or is it actually convenient?

I would go for the white tea but it's kind of expensive for a beginner, so Alishan Milk Oolong it is.

The reason I'm getting into tea is because it seems like it's a healthy alternative to straight water, but the taste puts me off atm so a fruity, creamy flavor would be nice

This Alishan Milk Oolong brand seem good to you?

Random question: Do you believe drinking tea before sleeping is bad? I've heard it has caffeine but idk if it's tea-specific or what else, the green tea I have doesn't seem to bother me

Lastly, any specific method of measuring water temperature you recommend? Should I just buy a thermostat and wait for boiling water to cool?

> Joy Luck Oolong

Something like this? Looks like Asian-store mass-market consumer brand tea. Probably if you soaked 4g of it in 300ml of boiling-hot water for 3 minutes, you'd get a passable cup of tea.

u/BrutalHonestyBuffalo · 4 pointsr/BabyBumps

I drink one cup of this Oolong tea every morning - my doctor said it was fine.
It's nothing fancy - but I love it.

It CAN slow your absorption of folic acid and/or Iron - but so far so good for me. Totally healthy pregnancy.

Occasionally if I want more than one cup - I will just use the same tea bag over - which effectively reduces the caffeine intake each time I steep it.

I drank this stuff religiously before pregnancy - but couldn't really tolerate it until about halfway through my second trimester (as it just increased my pukey-starved feeling). Now I am back to one cup a day - though, I don't always finish it oddly enough.

For the record - I think this tea is under 60mg of caffeine per cup.

u/TheDude4527 · 1 pointr/keto

During the work day I drink the following:

In the morning I use a single tea bag in 24oz of water. I use a quality full leaf oolong tea. Don't torture yourself with that powdery crap like lipton.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Teamonk-Nilgiri-Oolong-Natural-Additives/dp/B01LXEG7F9/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=teamonk%2Boolong&qid=1565185130&s=gateway&sr=8-5&th=1

They are out of stock of the individual silk baggie ones right now.

At some point I'll drink another 24 oz cup of water.

At 11 I make ketoade with: 1/2tsp pink salt, 1/2 tsp lite sale, 1/2 tsp natural calm, and 1/2 serving Optimum nutrition BCAA powder all in 24oz water.

I will drink this down halfway and refill 2-3 times until about 2pm. The BCAA's get my blood pumping and put me in the mood to go for my hill climb walk during lunch (OMAD frees my lunch hour up for exercise).

Between 2-4 I'll either mix up a weaker batch of ketoade or just drink some straight water.

On weekday evenings and weekends I drink water, pretty much nothing else.

If we go out to eat I drink water with lemon.

potent medium oolong, nice display cut leaf;
http://www.amazon.com/Tie-Guan-Yin-Oolong-Tea/dp/B000IBODHC
using this for both tea broth and in cooking;
http://www.amazon.com/Maeda-En-Shiki-Matcha-green-powder/dp/B0007A0PWG
combine this 1:1 to a good chinese 5-spice mix;
http://www.amazon.com/Frontier-Spice-Powder-1-92-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B0001M10VA
rub into raw salmon steak or dark meat chicken, then broil - it's amazing.

u/StormKingTea · 3 pointsr/tea

Probably roasted oolong fannings in a generic package. If you want something like that on the higher end you can try a "Phoenix Oolong" or sample different oolong teas - they vary widely in flavor depending on region of origin and processing methods. I found Phoenix to be a much much higher end version of that style of tea I am used to in NY Chinese takeout restaurants. If you are looking for that same level of quality on amazon maybe this one, but I have no experience with it personally (I hope this helps):

That is not a link to one of my products, nor is it an affiliate link. I can not vouch for that vendor, just trying to help

u/kevlar00 · 1 pointr/tea

After wikipedia-ing tieguanyin, it seems there are a variety of harvest times and roasting levels. Do you have any specific preferences for it when you make iced tea?

Additionally, reviews of the offerings on amazon are concerning (the best reviewed one seems to have issues with consistency). Do you have any suggestions on those or where to get it?

u/chackoo · 2 pointsr/tea

One of the only reputable tea vendors on amazon is Mountain Tea company. I would recommend this, it's really good. I would not trust any other tea sellers on amazon, they are below par.

u/ko951 · 2 pointsr/tea

It was delicious. I am glad I took a chance on 50 grams, though they sell it in larger bags. I got three steeps, the last being much milder. I am not sure this link will work, but here: Goartea Honey Orchid

It shipped from China, so allow for the travel time. I ordered a Tie Guan Yin, too, but haven't tried it yet. I will try their other teas. I was impressed with the small well-packed package and no tea crushed. Leaves just like the photo in the link.

u/OMGTehAwsome · 3 pointsr/tea

Try to find Asian markets in your area. Mine stocks loose leaf Maeda-en Gold Sen-cha for 5.99 USD per 5 oz bag (which I found spectacular!) I also picked up about 8oz of Joy Luck oolong for the about the same price and it was great.
Your mileage may vary, but at least you can come home with some acceptable tea and frozen dumplings.

u/SirNanigans · 1 pointr/Kombucha

I can't remember, and I still have only ever bought one bag. It was 2 lbs of dry tea, so it's lasting a while. Thus my experience is too narrow to provide any good advice. I recommend either asking around or finding brands that sell both large and small amounts, and buying smaller amounts first to try them out.

Found It: Amazon Link. I guess it was 3lbs. It's not the best tea for just drinking to be honest, it's pretty cheap, but my scoby doesn't seem to mind the lackluster taste.

I just bought this for Kombucha. It was $20 for 3 pounds. I haven't used it yet, so I can't vouch for quality. But it passes the sight and smell tests.
