It's a little difficult to discuss all indigenous cultures in North America of the same era, even if we limit to region and century. The indigenous cultures of what we now know as Mexico were quite significantly different by comparison with those in the northern US and southern Canada. However, we can surmise some significant things about indigenous governance by examining one of the most famous examples: the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. [Here] (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zmIjv-Go4WA/Uvma7Jvz77I/AAAAAAAAELQ/GsIo2DgGy7I/s1600/iroquois-map.gif) is a map to give you some sense of its location: modern day New York, Michigan, southern Ontario and Quebec, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, even in to West Virginia.

The Confederacy was a [union] (http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/iroquois/) originally between five distinct nations (Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga and Mohawk.) A sixth, the Tuscarora, are recorded to have joined in 1714 as partial partners and 1722 as full partners.

While the nations spoke and continue to speak distinct but similar languages, they were united by a common principle-- a combination of a constitutional document and a sacred covenant with the Creator and each other. This is the Great Law of Peace (Kaianere'ko:wa). It is both a civil and religious idea; in oral history it is recorded to have been given to the 16th century prophet [Hiawatha] (https://archive.org/details/legendsofiroquoi00canf)-- whom we know to have really existed, born in 1525 and dying in 1595-- by the Great Peacemaker, a mythic religious figure. (A note on that source: it is published in 1902, so some of the words are not necessarily ones we would use today.)

[Here] (http://www.ganienkeh.net/thelaw.html) is a translated version of the Great Law of Peace. It outlines many significant foundations of political life in the Confederacy, and how the government actually functioned: who from which nation must be present at council meetings, the order in which speaking is to occur, how clan inheritance happens, etc.

One of the interesting constitutional differences between the Great Law of Peace and comparable European documents of the time is the frequent and repeated references to the role of women in the governance structure. While women were not permitted to serve as chiefs, they do have a constitutional role as "clan mothers," who select chiefs and can discipline chiefs not seen to be performing their duties appropriately. Wampum #52 and #53 in that document are a good example:

> WAMPUM #52 HOW CLAN MOTHERS CORRECT ERRING CHIEFS
The Otiyaner women, heirs of the chieftainship titles, shall, should it be necessary, correct and admonish the holders of the titles. Those only who attend the Council may do this and those who do not shall not object to what has been said nor strive to undo the action. Note: The Clan Mothers (Otiyaner) may correct and give friendly advice to the Rotiyaner (Chiefs).

> WAMPUM #53 RULES FOR CLAN MOTHERS TO FOLLOW IN SELECTING A NEW CHIEF. When the Otiyaner women, holders of a chieftainship title, select one of their sons as a candidate, they shall select one who is trustworthy, of good character, of honest disposition, one who manages his own affairs, and supports his own family, if any, and who has proven a faithful man to his nation. Note: When the Clan Mothers "select one of their sons" it means one of the men in the Clan who has the proper qualifications. It does not necessarily mean one of their own natural sons, the Clan being a political family.

I would recommend reading through the whole Great Law; it's not too long and presents a very clear picture of what political life was like under the Confederacy.

Now, "common" is a bit of an issue in your first question. The Great Law was partly created because there was a dense population of indigenous peoples in the region; they needed to be able to get along despite their cultural differences and close proximity. Further north and west, these issues of population density were less of a problem, and as a result the need for strong alliances wasn't as pronounced (at least until later on, more like the late 19th century.) However, inherited leadership and councils of family leaders were still reportedly common.

As a minor fun fact, the Confederacy (which we now call the Six Nations) is still a cultural and political force in the region. It's not uncommon to see [Six Nations] (https://www.amazon.com/Iroquois-Nations-Native-Banner-Quality/dp/B00BY5VHDO) flags flying high on Aboriginal Day (June 21) or at different pow-wows and celebration events. The Six Nations reserve is the largest in Canada, with about 25,000 community members registered. (Typically reserves have 5,000 members or fewer.)

Alright. I would suggest that if you have a smart phone, you film on that. Iphones and Andriods particularly have fairly decent cameras on them. As for computers-PC, you have windows movie maker built in. MAC, you should have Imovie. These will be your editing platforms. If you don't have a smart phone, A cheap video camera will do. A mini tripod will make your life loads easier. It will make it so all your footage does not shake. However, you can make a cheap monopod to fit anything. String, and a metal washer or something else circular and slightly heavy will do. You can find out how to make it here Skip to about 2:45 to see how to do it.

A dry erase board works as a great teleprompter-reminder, guide, silent directions, etc. (It also works pretty well as a bounce, but I am 100% you won't be doing that, haha. But hey if you ever get more into movie making, anything white makes a good bounce!) That's really it (be careful of your audio. You could potentially get a cheap mic that'll pic up noise better, but you should be alright if you're just careful about it!) you should be good to go with all of that.

  1. 20K a month. Wow. I can't even imagine that. Month 1, I'd pay off my credit cards and car, put the rest in savings. So I'd use $18k a month to pay off my student loans in 4 or 5 months (using the other 2K for every day expenses). Then work on paying off my house. So after 13 months everything will be paid off. After that I'd probably do some deep heavy research into charities in my area and become really involved in them to the point where they call me "Mamma Warbucks."

  2. So to spruce up my living space, I would make a statement that my neighbors would realize "Here Lives the Biggest Nerd on the block" I would probably buy this flag for the outside. Or the Federation one. I'm not sure which statement I'd want to make more. Cause it is drawing a line in the sand by putting out the one i linked above.

  3. SO i forgot to say "Coat" in my first amazon search. So then I found THESE Beauties and have since put them in my amazon cart for my boyfriends Christmas PJs. But for a jacket I'd probably say this is one of the classier ones with Faux Fur. But honestly, I'd probably buy This one it just looks super warm and classy.

  4. So looking at turtle pendants on Amazon. I like this one. I like how the Opal looks.

  5. cjenvy. Because I like their answer to what they'd do with 20K. They want to travel. I didn't even think of traveling in my answer even though I travel as often as possible.

Sure thing! My Giftee had a lot of information for me to work with, so I knew their hobbies and likes instantly! I got lucky this year and got someone who filled out every area of their profile, and also gave me a lot of info on their likes/dislikes section.

I decided to focus on one of those likes that they had, since it also allowed me to connect the gift(s) to their other likes. For example: let's say someone loved collecting flags, but also liked AC-DC music, The New York Mets, and Harry Potter. I would focus on that flag collecting hobby and could get them these three flag/banners based on all of their likes:

I’m proud to call myself pansexual! I think a pansexual pride flag would definitely fit in this category https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0787W8L6C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TNuMBbDKXRMTE

Great contest idea. I love the fall!

  1. Spiced cider is my favorite. Warm cup on a cool evening, wearing a cozy chunky sweater wrap, and walking after dinner with the family. The smell of wet leaves in the air, maybe some smokiness if someone has a fire lit. And NO mosquitoes.

  2. There's a very pretty outdoor porch flag on my list for $8 that is fall-themed. It's the only season I don't have one for, after my previous one finally wore out.

  3. Love to chat.

  4. Summoning u/Cornelius-Matthews/ for being the very first person to welcome me to the sub. :)

You know I think you guys will be ok. It takes a great parent to reach out to help and understand. The way the documentaries presented things actually are part of a legacy of a hurtful thing known as gate keeping. It really prevented me from figuring things out until I was 35. For me, the issues weren’t so much that I felt like a woman but more I absolutely did not feel like a man in anyway. And I had a lot of depersonalization - a very strong feeling of numbness and feeling disconnected from my body. The knowing from an early age was actually a tactic setup my psychologists and sexologists to prevent as many people from transitioning as possible. Obviously that’s not what you’re doing!!

FYI if your child does say they are trans, maybe think about getting this? The trans pride flag for they’re room? Plus they may like the various trans subs here.

I have three posters in my room right now, they're basically House banners from Game of Thrones. House Stark is to the left of my computer desk, House Baratheon to the right, and House Lannister's hangs over my bed.

They look like one of these: Link

Over my computer is a square custom car plate that contains the Florida Gator's mascot and a Chinese word for "luck" that my dad got me when I got into UF.

I'm currently trying to find a small canvas painting of a major city like NYC to hang over my bed, and have a similar sized painting depicting a post-apocalyptic wasteland next to it.

Posters of my all time favorite movies would be nice too.

I'm pretty femme, though I wouldn't say lipstick lesbian because I don't wear makeup. Intentionally didn't get the lipstick lesbian flag (with the kiss mark in the corner, it is sold on Amazon tho: https://www.amazon.com/Flag-Lipstick-lesbian-Version-Lesbian/dp/B01I7OQEIC)

Edit: If you're up to talk about femme-Butch identifies/being femme u can DM me because I need someone to talk to about it!!!

Trump will do everything in his power to equate himself with America, and to equate defense of the rule of law with an attack on our country. We cannot let that happen. The American Flag is our symbol. These will be among the most patriotic marches in our nation's history, and should be drenched in Red, White and Blue.

A well-reviewed 3' x 5' American Flag can be found on Amazon for $6.

Edit: Good job, reddit, it looks like that version is about to sell out.

Here is another $6 flag that sells via prime, and a better reviewed version for $8.50.

If you would like to buy a quality flag made in the USA, they are considerably more expensive, but here is a $28 version recommended by a vet in the responses to my comment.

Remember: be civil. NO violence.

Bring flags (you can purchase relatively cheap US flags from Amazon, and others like it, here). Bring snacks and drinks, hand warmers. Get active on social media, post it everywhere you can. Bring your friends and family.

u/speedx77 · 2 pointsr/evangelion

Made the design (my roommate helped me) in Photoshop and then bought a custom design flag from Amazon where you send them the design and they'll make it.

https://www.amazon.com/Custom-flag-Banner-Foot-150X90cm/dp/B071GYDGX4

You have to ask for the four holes without the white border though.

Might make an Asuka flag as well.

edit: The quality is really good, it'll take about 2 weeks or so to arrive.

u/Magnum45 · 9 pointsr/EmpireDidNothingWrong

Amazon has a great seletion of Empire items. I recently picked this t-shirt and have been thinking about getting a couple of these flags to put up in my home.

u/WoodlandWizard77 · 2 pointsr/vexillology

Chinese Company. Extremely cheap, but pretty pixalated up close. I have a few, fabric quality is decent. 9/10 considering price.

The non-binary flag was honestly really hard to find, I couldn't find it sold literally anywhere else. The ace flag I linked isn't the one I bought, because I guess the shop took it down. But I linked a different one instead for anyone who wants one.

> I'm a vet and I feel strongly that, if a flag is to be displayed, it should be accorded proper respect.

Question from a fellow American: How do you feel about American flags modified to support a cause, particularly the police/thin blue line one?

I find them wildly offensive, and I generally don't get my undies in a twist over symbolism issues.

It's no longer available from the Amazon seller I got it from, but there are several similar options available like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Aimto-Foot-Step-Snek-Flag/dp/B07G5YQ7Q5

The dimensions for mine were 3x5ft if you wanted to explore other options.
