So here's my advice for making a living space you need on a budget. First, starting early is great! it gives you time to collect things and not panic!

  • It's summer so that means garage/yard sale time! If you come across one, stop and take a look. You never know what you might find as far as furniture or decorations or anything else! If you're able to find something, it's sure to be cool and unique from a garage sale. This will be a hunt.
  • Check out thrift stores as frequently as you can and try different ones in different cities! Stuff comes and goes and different cities have different demographics donating to their facilities. Similar to garage sales, it'll be a little bit of a hunt and you'll have to be able to see the potential among a bunch of junk. You can always try to recruit friends or family to do the hunting for you and tell them to keep an eye out for certain things you want to make it easier.
  • Craigslist for sale or free categories can have cool things too!
  • If you don't like the idea of used things or having to put in a bunch of effort to find things and you have an IKEA and Target near by I'd look there for cheap, simple but still cute furniture. IKEA also has decently cheap art and picture frames.

Specific things to look for or try:

  • Try looking in old art or art history books for prints of famous pieces of work
  • Look for out of date or unused calendars for larger prints of various types
  • Etsy can be hit or miss on price and you'll have to keep in mind shipping costs but it can be a good place to get some really unique things. This is a really good deal I found. Got some really neat artwork that way and would recommend if you think that those prints look cool.
  • Postcards can be a good way to get some cheap pictures
  • Frame interesting fabric patterns/prints or stretch over canvas frame even
  • If you're not super artistic(like me) get one of those adult coloring books and color some pictures yourself!
  • Try fairy lights like these if you like the idea of christmas lights but want it to look more mature and polished.
  • If you want to skip frames, use some cute washi tape to tape up pictures and posters. It's just pretty colored/patterned tape. Just be careful since you'd be putting tape on the pictures themselves you won't be able to easily move them or reuse them without possibly damaging the edges if tape rips the paper or loses its stickiness.
  • There's a million different DIY art and decorations so explore and try different things out!

And last thing: you don't need to have every decoration when you first move into the apartment. It's better to take your time and slowly add things you love instead of filling the space with things that are 'ehh, it's fine for now.'

I saw your other post and just now this one. I've been looking into bonsai for a little bit now, so I'm glad I caught this post before it got too old.

How exactly does one "become" a bonsai and the other doesn't? Does that just mean you'll keep the bonsai in a smaller pot and give the other one bigger pots all its life? Do trees in bonsai pots get stunted growth or something or what prevents them from growing larger? I've seen images before of plants with roots breaking pots open so it seems like a pot doesn't necessarily limit growth? Although I think it must somewhat in most cases?

I can't keep any plants outside unsupervised or they most likely will get stolen. I saw the light you use and I would love one like that but cannot afford it. I have two of these, one is 50w and one is 20w. I have north west windows (so like, pretty awful). Do you think I would be able to keep a jade tree growing? I have a bunch of other succulents that I started this winter and they are all doing pretty well, including growing props, the only exception is my crassula moonglow has etiolated for some reason. I've moved it's position to see if it can get more light. I keep them in a window as well since I figure every little bit helps, but I don't count on that.

Anyway, what I'm trying to ask is do you think I have favorable conditions at all for a bonsai tree? I wanted jade specifically since it has water needs more aligned with succulents than other bonsai trees.

Thanks any help you can provide. Your jade looks really cute now and I look forward to updates on how it grows and what you do with it!

Ok. That's cool. I prefer solo trips myself. I have anxiety around crowds of people, too. Being stuck in a cattle-drive of people after a show is always hard for me, acid or not.
As for recommendations I recently bought a light machine from amazon that reproduces the reflected light from water. Very mellow and soothing. Link.. I use it every night to help get me to sleep and it looks amazing while tripping.
At the top of my musical recommendations would be your favorite band. Although you've perhaps worn them out the past couple of trips. After that it would be my favorite band; Phish. Their music paired with psychedelics is like peanut butter and chocolate; to me, at least. Pretty much any show from mid-late 90's will be amazing. Specifically New Years '93 or '95. On their Halloween dates they play a classic album in its entirety and those are always great (Beatles, Velvet Underground, Little Feet). Other bands that are good for tripping would be post-rock bands like Explosions in the Sky or This Will Destroy You. No lyrics just melodic instrumentation. I really like listening to Animal Collective on trips. Particularly the albums Feels and Merriweather Post Pavilion. Those guys make music that is pretty much designed for psychedelics. Very drippy and warped. Easily one of my favorite artists.
Do you have a laser pointer? There is special UV reflective paint that 'absorbs' the light and keeps it in the paint. Essentially it allows you to draw with lasers which blows my mind every time.
Silent, dark rooms are also extremely underrated.

Purchasing just the chip components can be a hassle as you need to buy a power supply, heatsink, and solder them. It can make for a fun DIY project though. I recommend pre-built COB lights like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F24HFDF/

You can save money by purchasing lights that aren't specifically marketed for plants. They work similarly, as all LEDs are full spectrum. Just pay attention to the K rating - 6500k is optimal for veg growth, and has more blue wavelengths. Personally, these are what I'm using. One light can grow multiple plants: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KFUZ1VC/

A 2-pack of 100W LED floodlights is $56 and combined will work just as well as a $100 grow light... (This is forbidden knowledge)

Masterblend is fine and can be subbed out for Maxibloom. They're both designed for maximum flowering, which cannabis and tomato growers love. They aren't geared for the veg stage of pepper growth, which is why I add 1/4 tsp of calcium nitrate and 1/8 tsp Epsom salts per gallon of solution. This covers the nutrients that Masterblend lacks, so your plants will definitely love you for it.

Good luck, fellow hydro grower!

Depending on which state you're in, I'd say go through a Honeywell retailer and pick up a wireless Lyric system to handle the door/window contacts, glass break sensor, siren, and Yale electronic lock. You can put your indoor cameras on the Honeywell app as well.

I've had a positive experience with Honeywell since the wireless set-up process is simple, and the retailer's customer support should help you out should you have any tech issues or need guidance with the app. Makes it real easy to teach family members to use the apps, even people who are really bad with computers. Plus, whenever you move, it's no big deal. Just toss everything back in the box and install it in the next place.

With monitoring, your retailer or security system supplier might have someone they work with. Main thing to look for is that they're UL-listed and meet all the industry standards. Find out if they protect locations like schools and government buildings, too. That's always a good sign. I don't have any specific monitoring companies I can plug, unfortunately.

My only issue with Honeywell is their new wireless outdoor cameras are untested, so until I get my hands on one and put it through it's paces, I'm not going to recommend it.

I prefer wired exterior lights myself, but if you can also get battery-powered like this one on Amazon for cheap. With lights, there's really no need to get fancy unless you've got a lot of area to cover and you plan on being there on a more permanent basis.

For outdoor cameras you can get something like Amcrest's outdoor option. Decent camera, ticks all the boxes, not too expensive. Put your cameras on BlueIris or iSpy.

Hopefully that gives you a good starting point. Since your home is small, you probably don't need many cameras so that'll help mitigate some costs.

It's tough finding the balance between a cheap security system and a reliable one, but I think the added peace of mind makes it a worthy investment.

So I saw you said it didn't have to be related to goats, and I'm sure with the responses as well as your own personal searching you've seen almost everything (at least on amazon) goat related. So I looked through your wish list a bit and something that I kept seeing come up were things that were purple. Sometimes when I've got money burning a whole in my pocket and can't decide what to get, I just look up one work like for instance, the word "purple." Well, I looked it up and on amazon you've got options for a purple coffee maker, purple lights, purple butterfly wall art, purple car lights, or even a purple knife set. None of these things may actually interest you, but searching one word like that gives you such a broad range of things that might spark an idea for something similar.

Thanks for the contest and the #15 is also a favorite of mine so I appreciate you adding that as well! :)

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

If you are going to do this, do it in stages. Z-Wave and ZigBee are mesh networks...meaning that the reliability of the network gets much better the more devices you have. Also, with these mesh networks:

  • Battery operated devices DO NOT reinforce the mesh
  • The only devices that reinforce the mesh are devices that are always powered from the mains

I see so many people complaining about how the Z-Wave or ZigBee devices don't work, when they are relying on too many battery operated devices.

For Z-Wave devices, choose Z-Wave Plus over Z-Wave...it's the newest standard, and has much better range.

In the US, Z-Wave operates in the 900 MHz spectrum and ZigBee in the 2.4 GHz spectrum. Personally, I "prefer" Z-Wave devices as there is a lot of "junk" in the 2.4 GHz spectrum right now. However, the ZigBee devices are operating reliably as I have a strong mesh setup (with non-battery operated devices).

Two great application for the Leak Sensors:

  • Near your hot water heater (when they go, they always leak)
  • Under your A/C drip pan (if you have central air)

Great applications for door open/close sensors:

  • Turn closet lights on/off when the door opens or closes
  • Turn on entry and hallway lights when an entry door opens, but only when it's dark (30 minutes before sunset or after sunrise)...turn off 1 minute later
  • Notify me when my gun safe is opened

    Great Application for Motion Sensors

  • Turn on outside ceiling fans (but only if the temp is above 72 degrees)
  • Turn on lamps while motion is active when it's dark

The motion sensors I linked above are the new ones...the magnetically mount. What's cool is that the magnet is in the sensor, and it's strong enough to attach the sensor to a dry wall screw (no need to mount the adapter bracket).

I have about 4 different locations with these LED strip lighting. I use Cat 6 cable to do the runs. For example many of my LED strips are RGBW so you need 5 wires to make them work. Well cat 6 or even 5 as you know has 8 wires nice solid core stuff that is easy to solder. I've even contemplated using a patch panel as a DC distribution point and using RJ connector but have not done that yet since I'm pretty much done adding LEDs. BTW old desktop power supplies make great 12 volt power sources. As a controllers I use this with my Veralite system.

I'd run some 12 volt tot he kitchen for sure for under cabinet lights. Stair ways are also a nice touch

I have pretty much the same stuff as you, and I feel your pain (a I'm sure others are thinking, "Damn you, that's a lot of stuff"!)

I feel like I've pretty much maxed out and just waiting for the current things to work more fluid.

Anyway, a recent purchase I've made that I didn't see on your list were Osram GardenSpots (they look awesome outside with my lanscaping).

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R1PB2ZY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_D3nkybAH2ZG8J (this price is kinda high, I think I paid around $34 for these on sale)

In addition, I picked a couple of these up on ebay, and it works with both Wink and SmartThings.. They are 2-Channel Smart Plugs that basically have two outlets you can control individually for around the same price as the ones that only can control 1. I use it to control a floor fan and desk lamp. The other one is used for a coffee machine and some plug in LED strips.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/361826630198

Finally, I know you have Hue, and I do too, but if you're still in the market for some RGBW's, the same company that sells those smart plugs above has some on their website.

www.inovelli.com

I picked some up off ebay, so maybe they're just out of stock there.

Lastly, let me know if you ever get the Big Ass Fan bc I've been checking those out as well for my 3-seasons room. May pick one up in the spring.

Oh, I forgot, have you heard of Leaksmart? I have it installed and think it's pretty sweet. They need to work on their sensors though as their batteries seem to die quickly (for me at least on Wink).

Good luck!

>These Lights on Amazon have been pretty solid. I've had them for about 8 months now and they work great. I have two in the front yard. I like that they have one setting that remains dim at all times and when it senses motion it goes fully bright. The only thing is they need full direct sun to get a good charge and will last through the entire night. The motion sensor is pretty responsive too.

Guessing it's a party vs. something you could add some lights? Your main issue will be light from the fire will be prominent, and it'll make silhouettes of everyone.

Maybe you could string a bunch of party lights over/around the area to get some fill that would balance out with any actual fire. I'd try for a warm or amber color (traditional filament bulbs will read as amber/orange on daylight film, LEDs you'd want a warm white or amber). Filters will just cut your exposure even more, but shooting daylight neg film in this situation will give you a warm look that you can balance out in printing/post to some extent. The lights could give some interesting compositions and bokeh.

If it were me (a guy who likes lighting and has some gear) I'd take a battery-powered manual flash like the cheap-used Vivitar 285, tape an orange gel to it (like a 1/2 CTO), stick a cheap Chinese radio slave on it, and have someone hold it up high and pointed where I wanted it. You'd need a flash meter or a DSLR to suss out the power of the flash. I do this a lot to mix tungsten light with flash in a small rig that doesn't need cables or stands. If you look at the BG of that shot, it's like 1/2 second exposure and has some motion blur, but the flash freezes the subject, which could be a cool look at a party.

If it's just you and a camera, fastest film you can get, shoot wide open, and really brace your body for longer exposure. With practice, you can shoot like 1/15th wide wider lenses. If you want to use your 135, might bring a tripod or monopod.

You'd have to find a stand, but this style of light on Amazon tends to be really good for the price. I have a different one that's out of stock now, but I've dropped it more than a couple times onto concrete from about head height and it's still going strong.

If you want a flashlight, the Thunite T10 is pretty fantastic for the price.

u/WestonP · 1 pointr/homesecurity

I installed a bunch of these around my property over 2 years ago, including several that don't get any direct sunlight, and they're still working well for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012ZPKNFE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These obviously wont compare to a wired flood light, but they do a great job in areas that are super dark at night. We had also put some up in an alley behind my wife's old house, which didn't get any direct sun due to large trees, and they worked well there too.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the long term quality and performance, especially given the low price. I bought them half-expecting to have to replace them after a year, but it has been more than twice that time and they're still working well.

Look dude, what you really want for your dorm room, if you don't already have them, is christmas lights. Trust me on this, they're the best low lighting system out there. Alternatively, this ocean wave light thing is fucking rad. Lights off, that thing on, some great chill or psychadelic music, some friends, lie down and just stare at the ceiling. Have enough alcohol or weed in your system also helps the experience. Highly recommend either lights.

I made this so I could visualize it myself. Simple and minimalist, so it seems fairly low maintenance. I like a black painted wood bench (add some pillows for your style), a black metal end table, and simple decor like potted plants and oversized lanterns. I think the curtain helps close in the area and make it look more cozy. I know this style isn't for everyone and may not exactly match your house exterior, but let me know if you like it :)

These are pretty great, solar powered, just hang from a nail just about anywhere, but not terribly bright.

This one from Harbor Freight is much brighter, we have one above the garage for our driveway, basically because we really needed a light and I was too lazy to run wiring. I've had it up there for 2-3 years now, motion sensor isn't quite as sensitive as when it was new, but still works great.

The smaller ones could be hung from 3M strips so no damage there. The larger one, yeah you're gonna need to put in a screw or two to hang it from. Personally, I'd think in your case it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

u/poorsoi · 6 pointsr/Parenting

This is a great idea. My boyfriend is out of town a lot, leaving me home alone with our two year old. I was extremely uncomfortable alone at night until we invested in some basic, inexpensive home security devices.

1: Bump-proof your deadbolts. These things are super cheap, easy to use and install. They prevent your deadbolt from turning, so no one can pick or bump the lock.

2: Battery-operated alarms. We went to Home Depot and got tiny little battery-operated alarms for each door. These work by having two pieces (one on the door and one on the jamb) with a magnet in each. When the bond between the magnets breaks, as when the door is opened, it goes off. It has "off", "alarm", and "chime" functions, so it's the same device that a lot off convenience stores use. Cost us $15 for two. They work on windows also. (For the record, the alarm is ridiculously loud.)

3: Motion sensor lights. We put one of these on each side of the house. Battery operated so easy to install. Put them a few feet out of arm's reach if possible, check the batteries so often, good to go.

4: As the previous commenter said, get a dog if you can. Preferably a large one, but even a small dog instills a lot of security. Your son will find the companionship totally invaluable, he'll feel more in control if you give him responsibility of taking care of it, and small dogs are great alarm systems.

I hope this helps!

I can relate in that I enjoy buying for my little one more than I do for myself. That's why this ocean wave light projector would be perfect for you AND your girls! You can all enjoy this together while still technically being able to say you bought it for yourself :) Plus you'll have some extra left over, and the instructions do say "at least one thing for yourself" and if I remember correctly it should be enough for you to get some formula, too :)

u/LethalRabbit · 3 pointsr/ofcoursethatsathing

I have a similar light, except it's little green laser dots that move all over the ceiling and bedroom walls. It also has a blue nebula-like light in the middle, really makes it feel like you're floating through space. Have used it every single night for years, it's awesome for falling asleep.

I remember when my girlfriend spent her first night at my place, she was totally amazed by it. Now she's my wife and we both can't sleep without it on anymore.

Edit: for those who are interested, this is the laser projector I'm talking about and this is what it looks like in my bedroom while I'm writing this!

Probably not what you're looking for, but I can vouch for these. They're strong for a solar powered light, but not really suited for a path, more for lighting up trees or objects. I have them on top of my retaining wall shooting down, but I still had to make a holder for them that looked good. And you have to have a place to hide the solar panel that still gets sun. Again, not really for path but you talked about sprucing up the front yard, so if you want a good accent light, these work.

Hopefully someone has a rec. for a good path light, because there's a lot of lousy ones out there. Don't go too cheap, they're just dim and don't really do anything.

You could look into getting a non-climbing vine like pothos and "train" it upwards by threading them through command hooks like these mounted on the walls outside, that way you can easily disassemble it if you need to. Here's a great instagram post with pics if you need help visualizing it.

u/LoomaHome · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

One thing I'd do: Match the outdoor living space to match the indoor living room. It'll look like a natural extension of the living room, making the space feel even bigger. Even if you don't go out there very often, even if the outdoor decor echoes/complements the indoor living room decor, visually-speaking it'll make the space seem huge.

Make the outdoor space look cozy and inviting by hanging up some cafe lights (you can get them on Amazon) and drapes on the ceiling. Get an area rug that can withstand the elements (this one is pretty neutral), some outdoor furniture and potted plants, and suddenly, your living room looks huge, even if you never go out to the balcony :).

u/atlaslugged · 1 pointr/funny

>I really wanna say that even with 100% efficiency that solar panel would not be able to give 240 V AC (guessing that's a European plug) and provide the current for any appliance.

Power output is measured in watts, not volts/current. Watts = Volts x Current. The one in the picture is pretty thick, could fit a decent number of capacitors or rechargeable cells.

>I would actually love these if they were only lights that could take in light during the day for night time lighting.

That you could do today. http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Creations-JB5629-Solar-Powered-Accent/dp/B002X8X8UG/ref=lp_553784_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1368185695&sr=1-4

Sounds like a decently large space. I'd start by putting these teak tiles down to make it seem more like a deck- tiles

Then make yourself a cool plant wall. Get some pots and soil and herbs from a local place and grow stuff. Even if you don't have much sun there's options for some greenery.

Hang some cool outdoor lights like these: lights

Finally, give yourself some seating with either a cafe style table and chairs, a small outdoor couch, or a couple of outdoor rocking chairs with a small side table.

Not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, just a homeowner. But I'm guessing that if one has gone, the others will follow soon. How much lighting do you have? Have you considered replacing with solar? We've used stuff like this from Amazon and some larger-profile but similar lumens LED lights from Costco. I'd follow some of the reviewers' advice to use old garden hose to protect the thin wires from errant weedwhackers and such, but they've lasted in the mild PNW winters, and mostly give light until the wee hours of the morning, all night if the PV panel is in the brightest areas. One set has been out there for 2.5 years. Maintenance has been occasional clearing off leaves from the PV panel and repositioning lights when we moved some plantings.

I'm a big fan of this kind of trance because it's the perfect thing to listen to while browsing the internet or reading or working. It's more than just a song, Simon Posford (writer and producer, also known for his work in Shpongle) is an experience that helps me mediate my thoughts and transforms me to another realm.

These flower lights would really help me with an art project I'm working on.

Oh I love my fairy lights! They're really nice to have to spruce up the occasional still life photo and I usually keep some on hand for the detail shots when I shoot weddings or things around the house.

I had this really awesome boudoir client (who I met here on Reddit actually!) and she wanted some pictures in her t-rex onesie drinking whiskey. We decided to wrap her in fairy lights just 'cause, and I was totally hooked. After that I picked up a pair of these guys from Amazon. They're compact and battery operated.

u/dracapis · 2 pointsr/Assistance

I'd also recommend buying a motion-activated light: it turns on if it senses movement, which is proven to be efficient in discouraging a good portion of home intruders. Being under a spot-light when you're try to commit a crime can be very intimidating.

There are some that cost under 20£, but try to shop around and see what's best. You're putting cameras in front of the house only, but do you have a back that needs cover, too? This could be a compromise between additional cameras and nothing, or could be in support of cameras.

Since the goal is to stop your abuser from even wanting to come in, you need to make clear and evident that there are cameras on, as a deterrent, so I'd put a sign that says "this house is covered by cameras" or something on the same effect.

There are apps that can work as panic buttons, and alert your contacts in case of emergency, like ICE. In the US there's a cool app called Smart911, that basically makes you register, and when you call 911, the 9-1-1 call takers can view your addresses, medical information, home information, description of pets and vehicles, and emergency contacts. I think you could ask on r/FindAnApp or other subreddits if there's anything similar in UK.

Stay safe OP, cuddle your pets, and know that you're doing a lot to protect yourself!

u/namegoeshere · 3 pointsr/PostCollapse

The only thing that makes me suspicious is the lack of detail on the amount of lumens it puts out, specifics on the type of LED, etc. Apparently they also work as a phone charger.. I don't know where I would get an adapter for my specific phone, but I could always make one if need be.

And this whole 3rd world charity thing.. ok, I can live with that I guess.

I have been playing around with these for a similar usage.

They are one LED lights (no idea what type of LED unfortunately) and typically run off 2 AA batteries that are recharged from the solar panel on top of the light. I've been removing the AA's and wiring in old mobile phone batteries. I then epoxy the lamp + battery onto the inside of a mason jar lid and affix the panel on the outside. So you wind up with a very similar light, just no where near as slick and pretty.

They were handy when the power was out for an extended period though!

u/bentreflection · 8 pointsr/overlanding

this rooftop bag from Amazon. I drove from Los Angeles, through banff, to anchorage (over 5k miles) with it on the roof. It rained everyday of our trip for a month straight and never leaked a drop of water. It's still on my roof and it's rained on us almost every day we've been in ak. Amazing deal.

Also, if you're over landing you need to get an air compressor so you can air down and up if you need. I would also recommend an inverter and an extension cord so you can plug stuff in.

Additionally, I'd invest in some anker cigarette lighter and iPhone charging cables, as well as one of those large extra charge battery packs.

Also this little light is awesome. I use it all the time.

We have hardwired yacht lights (3) along one wall.

But I also use little Luci Lights when I want to light somewhere else in the van... we use a 3-4 LED one as a nightlight when we’re just dinking around and don’t want bright lights, and the 10-LED one is bright enough to read by. They’re $15 or so and solar recharge. Mine are already 1.5 years old and still going strong.

u/MMfuryroad · 2 pointsr/hometheater

I have this same set in a 65 inch with a Medialight LED bias light kit and these strips are easily cut down . Would have to ask the manufacture of yours what the steps are for doing the same but it should be able to. I used 3M Command clear plastic Christmas hanging clips.

They go on firmly but have a quick release pull tab attached to the adhesive strip for quick removal and I placed them in between every 3rd LED or so. I haven't even used the manufactures included tape behind the LED's because I want to be able to remove and move it for any future TV I buy.

I put the taller left side panel(front of TV left) back on the rear of my TV as 3 of the 4 HDMI ports and a single 3.0 USB port were still available just to the right of it and would give you a better pathway around that side of the set if you intend to cover 3 of the 4 sides. I appreciate your input, I might have to take you up on that offer! I've been looking at LED options, and the CREE's you linked are my ideal, but I don't want to risk frying a $50 LED while still figuring it out. I found these on Amazon for about $10 a piece, so I think I'll pick up a few of those and start messing around with them and see what I can do.

I also came across this video that is doing exactly what I was aiming for, so there's at least some hope for me! Now to figure out the MOSFET and power supply

And yeah, I'm not looking for perfect color accuracy, I may attempt something with RGB to avoid the phosphor, but even with the phosphor after glow, I don't think it'll be that much of a difference in the final image, but thats something to deal with later on.

u/antikotah · 1 pointr/homeautomation

I bought the hanging bulb sets from Costco that look like THIS.

Note: I'm not recommending that brand from Amazon the look is just similar (maybe the same thing??)

Then I added some LED light strips around my deck which have a cheap remote for different functions. I really dont use anything other than "on" so I never use that remote.

On/Off is controlled through a GE Z wave outdoor plug inside of an outdoor box under my deck.

Nothing fancy, but wife loves it.

I actually meant just that besides the cheap part haha. You can use these(first I found on amazon) 6-6500k and these 2800-3000k chips I believe they use the same drivers and their 20, 30, 50, and 100w versions are all 5x4.5cm and you can run two 100w at 25% and make them last a long time, as well as 2 50w at 50% and so on. Id say 6-6500k has enough red but I get that and the cost thing, I dont know how big the sink is but I guess you have at least15x15cm to work with.

I have those lights and decided against putting them up in my apartment. Why? Because they are freaking heavy. Seriously heavy and are better strung up if you attached them along a wire strung along. The cord is super thick. They are meant to be outdoors. You see these lights on so many outside patios.

I put these up in my place instead. Warm light, way more manageable to string up, and look good.

A few things i noticed about it the past few days.

  • the light is decent and goes about 15-20 feet pretty well
  • you can adjust the sensitivity (It's touchy... cars driving by were activating mine)
  • Make sure u place the solar panel where it can get the best light its got a long cable for that.
  • it needs sunlight so if you live in seattle it may die quickly. If it goes completely dead you have to turn it off then let it charge for a few days.

I usually use the 3M Outdoor Light hooks like these https://www.amazon.com/Command-Outdoor-Light-16-Clips-17017CLR-AWES/dp/B00SH2CDCG/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=command+hooks+outdoor&qid=1564362891&s=hi&sr=1-5 I send these out with any etsy orders I get, it shouldn't leave marks but to be safe use a hair dryer on the sticky part before removing them (I've prematurely removed them and had some plaster be removed from the wall in the basement room I live in)

Would these work and how would I affix them to the roof?

u/WithGreatRespect · 1 pointr/led

First, even though those are listed as waterproof, it is IP65 and it says not to soak/submerge in water. Not sure what your plans are there.

That aside, I think the general guidance is that these strips are limited to about 10-15m (2-3 strips) of length before the voltage drop is too much since the conductors in each strip is very tiny. If you are intending to run 30 m long, you may need to use separate 10m lengths with thicker conductor supplies running with the strip.

I recommend you ask the seller what the rating is for max number of strips that can be put into a single run. I would also ask what the wattage per 5m strip is for the RGBW. That will tell you if your power supply will have enough. I couldn't find it in the listing.

My bigger concern would be that a long parallel run at 50A might be a very hot cable and those strips may not be able to handle it (don't know the actual current draw because we don't know per strip max wattage). You might want to do a parallel/series arrangement to bump the voltage to 24V or 36V so you can cut the current by half or two thirds and use smaller conductors. There are similar power supplies in 24V/25A/600W and 36V/16A/600W configurations on amazon if you search.

For example, this similar strip of RGBW on amazon (not waterproof tho):

https://www.amazon.com/LEDENET-Bright-Flexible-Lights-Lighting/dp/B00HBMN4YO

Says per 5m roll: 5A draw, 12VDC, 60W per 5m

The question/answer section says no more than 2 strips in parallel long run.

If you were to take this example and just connect 6 strips, 30A total at 12VDC for a total of 360W. 30A seems like a lot of current. You would need 7 AWG cable to carry that which is 3.6mm thick (conductor without sheath). If you were making a tight array in a square light panel, you could get away with chassis current rating of 14 AWG but that is still pretty thick.

EDIT: If you already bought some of these strips and have them. You could use a bench power supply to find out exactly how much current each strip draws when 12VDC is supplied them.

We did lanterns with twinkle lights stuffed in them and a bit of dried green moss in the bottom of the lantern. Our favors were succulents from an Etsy shop and we used them as our "flowers" to brighten up the table (I did have to wrap them in burlap which took a few hours with two of my bridesmaids). We also used a mix of pink, white, pink/white, ivory silk flower petals from [another Etsy shop] (https://www.etsy.com/shop/RosePetalsEverywhere?ref=l2-shopheader-name) to sprinkle on the table.

For a single light which is used infrequently, have you considered getting a solar powered light? Something like this? That's cheaper than 240' of romex already. You could probably DiY an actual halogen flood light with a solar panel and car battery for less than $150 as well.

I'd suggest calling and electrician. They will do it correctly and you won't have any issues. It's not hard to do but it's not easy either. You can get around this by going to home depot or Lowes and buy a solar powdered led light. The solar cell mounts high and recharges a battery. As you approach the light it sense and turns the light on.

I bought two Lightify Gardenspot sets. I am able to connect the LEDs end to end, leaving me with an extra power supply/controller for me to cannibalize.

The power supply shows a rating of 5V 2500mA. The instructions look like I can throw up to 14W on it.

Using these LEDs it looks like I could power about 1.5 meters, enough to backlight my tv.

I would like to cut off the special connectors they use and use this controller elsewhere. In my mind, I can't think of a reason that it wouldn't work, but I figured I'd ask.

Edit - wrong length at first

I wouldn't even touch the dispute. That's up for mediation or police.

I would only focus on things possibly related to your property. One might be:

> fruits smashed against the back of her house, back of house being egged several times, and things being thrown at the back of her house in the middle of the night and waking her up, frightening her.

I just put one of these on a rental and it ended some late night vandalism in that area

You can also check your gates and fences to make sure they lock and are secure.
