Awh, that sounds like a good night, at least. I mean, at least you weren't stressed out or running around and you were able to relax together, albeit doing different things. My boyfriend and I usually have our respective Me time as we mostly stay in and hangout with each other. We're both pretty broke right now, too, so until I get a job we won't be doing too much of anything. I LOVE to bake, and he loves to eat my baked goods, so I would definitely want to bake something for him! Perhaps some tasty mini filled cakes that are root beer float themed-root beer flavored cakes with a creamy vanilla filling. (He has requested that flavor combination to be included in one of my next creations.) Or I could make some mini ice cream sandwiches! Ahhh they're SO cute! These ones are adorable, too! Vanilla cookies with orange cream ice cream, because we just found a half pint ice cream maker at the thrift store (still in the box sealed, $7!!) and I want to use it for something adorable. Of course, if I were baking I would need an oven mitt so I didn't burn myself =P My favorite mitt got a hole right between the thumb and the rest of the mitt. Fail. Let's be honest, this freaking mixer would make my LIFE, not just my night, but that will just have to wait until I win the lottery or something. ;P

After baking, we could both lounge around and I would make some cool crafts. I have been wanting to make coasters using these dyes and/or these dyes or these ones and alcohol on some ceramic tiles. Look! How freaking awesome, right?! Cool times. (How old are your kiddos? These would be SO much fun to make with kids!! Have them sign their names in sharpies with the date!) Plus then our wood coffee table won't be ruined. So, you know, that would be good. While I'm crafting he would certainly be playing some video games. He has been lusting over Dead Space 3 FOREVER. (So, if I happen to win and it is within the budget, that is the top item for me, because I know how happy he would be to have it and I can't afford to get it for him right meow.)

While waiting for the crafts to dry I would play with my kitties. This toy is awesome looking. Once the kitties were all tuckered out, I would seal the tiles and then I would absolutely want to paint my nails. Boyfriend would still be playing video games so I would sit next to him on the couch and paint nails and watch him own. He's so good at shooting games, I love watching him play! I'm sure he would be eating some of the fresh bakery, too =) I would paint them this most amazing green color EVAR with some glitter on top. Then, because I don't know when to stop with anything having to do with my nails, would add these super freaking cool studs to them!

After all that I would be pretty tired, so I would just lounge around on the couch waiting for my nails to dry while he inevitably still played his game. lol. Yes, this would be perfect me time and him time and us time and just a perfect night in! This is a really cool contest idea! <3

1.) Something that is grey: Sculpy! From my cosplay wishlist! :D

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: This hair accessory from my Silly Fun list! I don't know if they're meant to, but the blue bits remind me of raindrops. <3

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Food picks from my Silly Fun list! Maybe not super unusual in Japan, but here in America I doubt you'd see them often.

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself: This book off my Books wishlist of course! It's for my husband, who's a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. I like them, too, but I doubt I'd ever read this.

5.) A book I should read: The Invisible Gorilla, again, off my Books list. I read almost a third of this book while hidden in a book store one day. It's an absolutely fascinating study (or rather, collection of studies) about how much trust we place in our own faulty intuitions.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related: Barely, but this nautical star decal! Unfortunately, it's not on any of my lists.

7.) Something related to cats: Another from my Books wishlist! I'm pretty sure I already know my cat wants to kill me, but this book looks funny anyway.

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Stationary, from my Silly Fun list. I have no one to write to, but I have an obsession with pretty stationary and cards and things. I'm usually too afraid to write on it, even, because nothing ever seems worthy of the pretty paper...

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life: From my Movies/TV list: Braveheart! Because FREEEDOOOOOOM!!!!!

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain: Survival knife from my Adventure wishlist! Secluded, unpopulated areas are best for hiding from zombies, and this thing even comes with a firestarter! HOW CAN YOU SAY NO?

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: This book which is, strangely, on my Semi-Practical list. I'm a Math/Physics major, but I haven't been in school in quite a while. I'm about to go back very soon, and I'm a little petrified of failing out.

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Red Heart yarn from my Crochet wishlist!

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item: The PS4 from my Video Games list. I'm an avid gamer. Video games are how I relax. It's one of the few things that, no matter how crappy my day was, always manages to raise my spirits and help me forget about it all.

14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Apparently bread boxes are way bigger than I thought, so I'll go with this desk off my Semi-Practical wishlist. Surely that's big enough! XD

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Turtle earrings off my Silly Fun list! THEY'RE SO CUTE!

16.) Something that smells wonderful: Teavana's Blueberry Bliss tea off my Silly Fun list (yet again). If you've never been in a Teavana store, go this second and just...inhale. <3

17.) A (SFW) toy: Frog mitt from my Practical list. I'm fairly certain this isn't supposed to be a toy, but I get the feeling I'm going to spend more time using it as a puppet than as an oven mitt.

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: This backpack from my Semi-Practical list! I want it so badly!! IT'S STUDIO GHIBLI HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: 12 Hole Ocarina from my Ocarina wishlist. It's so beautiful and it comes with a Lord of the Rings songbook and I just LOVE IT SO MUCH.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Shark sleeping bag from my Silly Fun wishlist! You need me to explain it's awesome?? REALLY? IT'S A SHARK SLEEPING BAG. It looks like the shark is eating you!! Plus it's called the "Chumbuddy" and that just makes me laugh way harder than it should.

Fear cuts deeper than swords!

u/selfcurlingpaes · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Woot! Did it without adding anything new to my wishlists/linking to nonwishlisted items :D

1.) Something that is grey.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain.

3.) Something food related that is unusual.

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself.
Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): It's for my roommate because I can't cook to save my life >_<

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! That or anything else my Elizibeth Hand- she is amazing. I also highly recommend her wonderful novel on mental illness, Generation Loss

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! $1.35 was the best I could do

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. Both needlessly fancy brads and a coloring book (as if I weren't about to start the semester full time in a couple days. Heh. Leisure time. LOL, that's so cute.)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? I didn't add any movies onto my wishlist because I have Netflix and I never watch the DVD's I have. But everyone should watch Fight Club, The Daparted, Memento, Requiem for a Dream, Night of the Living Dead, and- most importantly, The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Go watch it now! To fulfill the scavenger part of the contest somehow, here is a tchotchke from my favorite TV show ever, which has spawned 12 movies, most of which you should see.

So I could be all cheesy and pick a movie that most people have for the most points, like Avatar, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc, but you know what's more important than winning contests? Revelling in the cinematic beauty that is The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra! Los Skeleton is literally the funniest movie I've ever seen. I remember my abs hurt so bad afterwards from laughing so hard for so long. My friends and I got all these inside jokes that we still use today, ten years later, that still crack us up.
Well, now that I've played it up to a standard that no movie could ever live up to (I'm sorry, I meant no movie except The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra!) so that you'll surely be underwhelmed by it, regardless of the cinematic masterpiece that it is, all I can say is, "Enjoy!"

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack.

Explain.

Because destroy the brain, kill the ghoul, of course.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.. There were a couple of items I could have put here instead: a die cutting machine, an accordion (want. SO. bad!!), a Chromebook, but I think what would really bestow the greatest impact on my life and help further my goals would be a serger. My birthday was a week ago and someone asked me what I wanted to happen this new year for me. I ended up writing a journal page about it, and one of the things was to improve my costuming skills and to finally take them to a professional level that I can be proud of distributing.

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. So pesky that I made an entire wishlist just for add-ons

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? I love the accordion and I've wanted one for years. I can't explain why. Or Jason Webley is why. Whichever answer you prefer.

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. Hello!

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.

16.) Something that smells wonderful. I love this stuff!

17.) A (SFW) toy. I apparently have a bunch and they're all in Hebrew. I don't even speak Hebrew O_o

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.. Mixing two of my obsessions and one love all together: scrapbooking, washi tape, and steampunk. Yes.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.

I don't know if the grandness of Cthulhu slippers needs to be explained. It's Cthulhu...but slippers! :D

Your Name Is Bonus: How about some super good-for-you Melissa supplements?

Oregon Bonus: "harvested in the waters right off the Oregon Coast."

Hi, I'm also a beginner who's still pretty nervous around hot surfaces and heat, so I'll give you some tips especially for that.

I have a pair of Ove Gloves that I like because I can stick my hand in the oven without worry, but also because I can grip hot trays better and am less worried about dropping things. Just make sure you take care of them because food sticks to the material a lot, and if they get holey then that's bad.

Use a lot of aluminum foil - it doesn't get hot as easily if you put it in an oven. Better yet, if you're baking/roasting something, you can get this to put (aluminum side down) over baking pans so you don't get food on them and they are easier to clean.

When I first started cooking, I had no idea what things needed high heat or low heat on a stove or oven, and totally messed that up a few times, because people think these things are obvious. I'll just give you a few:

  • Grilled cheese should be cooked on a medium to medium-low heat for a fairly long time so the cheese melts and the bread doesn't burn. Try to flip only once.

  • Eggs should be cooked on medium or medium-high heat (probably medium but I like my eggs overcooked), but the pan should already be hot so that you can feel it if you put your hand over it.

  • As per the package directions, cook pasta in boiling water. Start with rice that gives you instructions on how to cook it.

  • If you want to cook vegetables, try slicing and roasting them in the oven in a baking tray on high heat (around 400 degrees F) instead of boiling or steaming them. Some good ones are carrots, potatoes and other root vegetables, and Brussels sprouts.

  • Potatoes can be cooked in the microwave for 4-6 minutes, in boiling water for 20 minutes, or in the oven at around 425 F for an hour, depending on what you want to do with them.

  • Pancakes should be cooked on a medium flame and flipped very carefully. Try making smaller pancakes to start with, they're easier to flip. And the first pancake is nearly always a dud.

  • If you want to cook meats, I'd recommend starting with ground beef or turkey and sautéing it in a pan until it goes from pale pink to brown. Then you can move onto thinly-sliced beef (steak sandwiches), and flattened pieces of chicken (chicken piccata) or pork (schnitzel). That way you get a feel for how long they take to cook before you accidentally undercook a bigger piece of meat.

Slow cookers are good to buy if you want to cook things without worrying about open flames or setting your house on fire. You can leave it on all day when you're not in the home and it'll work fine, most surfaces are cool to the touch, and it's good for beginners because if you're a half hour over or under it'll still work.

Make sure your stove has a vent or a range hood over it or built into the stove. If not, you're going to have to open the windows a lot more to prevent setting off the fire alarm - which you should absolutely have at least one of if your apartment isn't already installed with one.

Does your new place have gas or electric stoves? If it has gas, that's cool, because you can see the flame and you're able to see exactly how hot something is. If not, you may need more adjusting.

if you're canning or just cooking, I'd recommend a pair of these oven mitts. They are long and durable and can get wet. And by get wet, I mean when I was canning and had to pour boiling water into my jars then quickly seal them to get the vacuum seal, I just used these to grab everything easily instead of using the silly old canning tools. They worked great (I made twelve jars of pickles and even though it was my first time ever doing this, I managed to get a good seal on all twelve jars!)

Also:

Cooking utensils: We really like our Calphalon spoons/turners/etc. They work really well and are pretty comfortable and durable, but they can't handle the really thick stuff (had to use our metal spoon (carefully) when we made a gallon or two of kasha)

Cutlery: did you say something about breaking the bank? Well ignoring that rule, Cutco knives are actually really really good. The edges stay sharp forever. (Mine are still just as great as when I got them five years ago; never been sharpened. My parents have a set from when they got married 30 years ago and they are still extremely usable.) They do actually honor their replacement guarantee forever - some of my mom's steak knives broke as did her scissors after like 15 years, and they sent brand new replacements no questions asked, and they are also dishwasher safe and not made of wood. Consider getting a few of these - maybe the petite carver and the trimmer knives if you only want a couple. I do almost everything with just those two. (full disclosure - I did have my Cutco salesman stint for a year or so, but half the reason why I did it was so I could buy the full set of knives at a big discount for myself; I hardly sold anything otherwise)

For the stand mixer, be sure you don't get a lower-end mixer that might not do everything you want later on, just because it is cheaper now. Get the lower-end mixer because you have no need for a more powerful one anyway. BB&B 20% coupons come in really handy for these!

That being said, if you're going into school, and your kitchen isn't that big, it might not be worth it yet for you to take up that much counter space - consider getting a handheld mixer for the time being too, unless you're going to be using it a ton.

If you're doing a lot of chopping sorts of cooking, a Cuisenart food processor is amazing.

Let me know if you are thinking about a blender - I know too much about those too.

I think the best gift I've received on here were my Bear Oven Mitts. I use them every day, and I get to make the obvious dad joke, "I made this with my...bear...hands..."

As far as the best gifts gifted, there are a lot out there. People here really are awesome. I love seeing the bomb giveaways, and when someone helps out others in need, or just because. Some people are all, "hey...it's Tuesday...let's give someone a fuckin computer." Wish I had money to be that generous.

Can you let me know the next time you are going out to hunt wabbits and dead pwesidents?

u/atomic_bonanza · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

:D YAY!!!!! GIFTING IS FUN! Thanks for this!

I keep entering this as my prize in raffle contests so it's now become a personal vendetta. Oh this would be good for the kitchen because I melted my other one in the dishwasher. This froggy mitt is just super cute. :D

u/katiejaguar · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I love this ottoman though it is a bit above the price range.

On the cheaper side, i love little things to make your house feel like home:

-this sponge holder

-this oven mitt

-a darling windchime

-or these helpful moms

EDIT: i also find this to be hugely helpful in my household!

good call!

and welcome to health care!

i've been very pleased with my decision to be a respiratory therapist. it's such a nice feeling to help someone that isn't feeling well. i actually had a gentlemen stop me yesterday and thank me for helping his father when he was having a coughing fit and was short of breath. he didn't have to stop and thank me, but he did and it made my day.

anyway... the decision that my wife and i have made is to move to a different city, much larger city so that we can continue our schooling so we can advance in health care. she wants to be a CRNA and i'd like to be a PA.

flabbergasted!

u/swanniebear · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

YES awesome I have so many things to link you. This book of propaganda through the galaxy looks awesome. This star wars earring set is super cute. The rogue one teaser poster as well obviously! and then finally this darth vader oven mitt and apron set is hilarious. May the force be with you !!

u/ossej · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have one, but would like a smaller one, too. I like to blend in my bottle:

  • 8oz milk

  • 8oz Bolthouse Farms juice (one of the berry flavors, or the mochaccino flavor)

  • 1 heaping scoop of vanilla slimfast (or protein powder would probably do, too)

It makes a pretty good breakfast. I use whole milk, because skim is icky and because a little fat helps you feel fuller longer.
u/BakedJezuz · 1 pointr/OSHA

Something i found very cool about being a chef, is how cheap our tools can be.
If youre a baker, start buyimg you r own stuff to keep in a pack you can travel with.

Silicone mits for the win. You may never be able to convince them to invest unless you make a quality investment first into a helpful tool.

And never leave your shit in house without you there. Consider it gone if forgotten.

Alright, so I am not sure if I am doing this properly, but /u/WhatTheNorris, I summon thee.

As for the random white elephant gift, I think this would be hilarious in an exchange. I went to public school and thus can't count, so I am not sure what number to write. Also, I think the Mods are approving comments (bless their hearts), so who knows how many will post before I am approved. I'm going to throw a wild number out and say I'm number 28. Yeah. That sounds right.

For starting I highly recommend the Lodge cast iron combo set! It's all the cast iron I can justify having (though I do get excited when I see cast iron on sale...). For $37 you get a skillet, pot (also useful as a high-sided pan), and dutch oven. I use the skillet daily for eggs and everything else. A dutch oven is a handy piece of hardware, I use it to make the most delicious sourdough bread. 😋

Unfortunately, the things I need aren't exactly cheap, hence me not buying them for myself. You will notice a theme.

My top three would be :

  1. this blender or a similar one. My favorite thing for breakfast is to have a smoothie, but I have arthritis that makes it difficult for me to disassemble and reassemble traditional blenders. These ones are supposed to be much easier.

  2. Good quality oven mitts because I burn myself often.

  3. Tea kettle. I love tea, and drink it often for my throat, (I have this weird spasming thing that makes my whole throat go crazy and sometimes bleed. I'll go to the doctor for it one of these years.) but my last kettle shattered, and I'm wary of using cheap, made in china kettles for risk of getting nasty chemicals in my tea.

I <3 you too. If you do choose me as a winner, I would happily take a gift card in a smaller amount to put towards one of these purchases. Thank you for the contest!
u/wunderbier · 6 pointsr/AskCulinary

Agreed! Though I'd say "as good as old", in the case of cast iron.

I don't get it when people say cast iron is too much work. I haven't even used water or salt in a long time. I just wipe it out (after it's cooled a bit) with a linen cloth I launder weekly. Maybe if there's something crusty on the bottom (pretty rare now) I'll use the spatula or a green scrubby to get it off. I coat the surface with a few drops of oil if it's dry looking. Hot handle? Darp darp. I've done gravies and all kinds of pan sauces in it too without problem.

Back when my pan's seasoning was new, I used to have a non-stick skillet in reserve for fried eggs. No more. Eggs from any pan other than my cast iron skillet are flavorless and boring.

Between me and my wife the pan probably gets used daily. Sure, it takes a while to get to this point, but it's worth it. I've heard of people doing tomato sauces in particularly well seasoned cast iron, but I haven't dared yet. One day.

tl;dr, The less I fuss with my cast iron skillet, the better food it makes.

u/Blame_The_Green · 3 pointsr/techsupportgore

>End up just burning your fingers to get it replaced quicker.

Ove'Gloves help a ton; but the best practice is to power off the printer and let it sit for a few hours (or over night) to cool down.

One time my boyfriends parents made us Fried Dough like at the fair. She fried them up and I was the first one to get one. i took one bite and instantly knew something was wrong. I continued eating though just to be polite. My mother than got one and we exchanged looks with eachother, both knowing something was up. But we both kept eating. Finally my boyfriend got one and said something to his mother. Turns out she had doubled the amount of baking soda in the recipe and made it bitter and inedible. My mother and I laughed and then his mother yelled at us for not saying anything. I went home later with a bellyache. Fast forward a few years and my boyfriend is in the kitchen making scones for a few guests we have over. He makes the same mistake his mother did and all of us once again are too polite to say anything until he tries one and yells at us for not saying anything. I guess cooking abilities runs in the family!

Thanks for the fun contest :]

Here's my item!

I recently got a 2 pack of the Ove Glove and I've really been enjoying them over the standard oven mitt! I like being able to keep some dexterity. I've had pots or pans in the past hit my underarm, but the gloves give me a lot more control over the hot things I'm working with. Also nice if you need to brace your cast iron pans, or move them around a bit while heated. I've been buying a lot of new stuff lately, but I was probably the most surprised by these guys!

We seriously do not have any more room in our kitchen for any new gadgets or anything. The latest thing I got was a Hamilton grill/griddle as a gift from work for my 10 year anniversary. We had to rearrange everything and find a place for it. My hubby is worse than I am though. If it's a gadget and looks cool, he wants it lol!

I will say this though, two of the greatest things we've ever bought - besides our kitchen knives (which are awesome) are these and this.

They are most likely the Lodge branded ones (don’t own these but just guessing because these are pretty popular from what I can tell)

u/barlister · 32 pointsr/Cooking

the best oven mitts these days are silicon

if you get them dirty you can wash the outside off in the sink, you can literally pick up burning coals in a barbecue, they are badass

these are awesome

Correct. I bought a pair a few weeks ago, they're pretty awesome as long as you don't get them wet.

Get you a pair of bear hands so you don't burn your bare hands. The amount of puns you get to make when owning these easily pays you back for them, plus they're great oven mitts.

Back in my hippie college days, I used to run as a medic in various protests. One of the things a lot protestors would wear is the asbestos lined gloves you get for working with hot stuff, or welding gloves.

I'm pretty sure it's something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Oven-Gloves-Confidence-Satisfaction-Guaranteed/dp/B00GRC2JS6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1412130282&sr=8-4&keywords=cooking+glove

If you made an entire mailbox out of that, I'm pretty sure hitting it with a bat wouldn't do anything. Also, flamethrower proof and won't go through windshield if struck by car.

I exploded some Pyrex. Not broke...not shattered....EXPLODED. I accidentally turned on the wrong burner and happened to have it sitting on top. When I realized what I had done I grabbed the thing with my Ove Glove and ran it to the sink. There happened to be a little bit of water where I set it and BOOM. Magma-hot glass shrapnel EVERYWHERE. Took 4 hours to clean up.

It's a miracle I didn't get shrapnel in my face because I could have easily lost my eyesight.

u/jimmyelias · 130 pointsr/funny

They’re super enticing, see for yourself. I’m breaking a sweat just thinking about the situation - which is either give in and buy something I’m mildly interested in having, or continue ignoring and prove a point to Amazon that shoving something, anything, in my face isn’t enough to make me break.

u/Spamicles · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I like these (have had them for a year and they work great; easy to clean). I've used them for 450 degree F pans with no problems. http://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Elements-Ultra-Flex-Silicone-Cooking/dp/B004QGXNT4

This is just a brainstorm of ideas:

-Big nice cast iron Dutch Oven (preferably buy the mitts below with the Dutch oven if he plans to preheat it, just to avoid burns)

-Good oven mitts (Specifically these ones which I have and rate higher than other mitts I've tried)

-Bannetons

-Bread Lame (avoid the plastic ones)

-Baking steel/stone (good for both bread and pizza I hear)

-If you get a steel/stone, a nice big pizza peel is an important addition

-Stainless steel Dough scraper

-Glass bowls/rectangular casseroles with lids for bulk fermentation

-Silicone Lids (these ones not the stretch lids) for the bowls he owns. (Excellent addition and saves on plastic wrap)

-A big wooden surface for dough shaping and kneading. (I use this one)

-A nice linen bread couche

-a ceramic cloche (alternative to a dutch oven)

I sometimes cook my steaks the same way, and also have a glass top. I just let the burner get hot (set to high), and when I take it out of the oven, I gently place it on the hot burner. I use these gloves, and have no issue holding the cast iron long enough to move it

I believe you mean the 'Ove' Glove which is good, briefly, for a few hundred degrees, but it's basically just an oven mitt. I wouldn't expect it to handle ash & cinders.

u/Sasselhoff · 3 pointsr/FoodPorn

You need to try a pair of these then. It'll change your mind on fingers on oven "mitts" (yes, I know "mitts" don't have fingers...it's a catch-all for "things we use to grab hot stuff out of the oven").

u/jefferyphillips · 2 pointsr/ar15

Buy these. I've had mine for years and no sign of them wearing down. I use them handling EXTREMELY hot things on my grill (charcoal chimney) and everything in my kitchen as well as pulling things off my smoker. They're phenomenal. $5 per glove and they cover half-way up my forearm and I'm a tall dude.

u/ballaaaaaaaaaa · 7 pointsr/Breadit

I use a pair of Ove Gloves. I've never used gloves or mitts before I purchased the Ove Glove, just used a couple dry bar towels. But I've been using the Ove Glove for the same purpose you are using your gloves: moving a hot dutch oven (475 F) in and out of a oven and removing the lid.

Although I have only been using the Ove Glove for a year, I bake almost every weekend, usually bread in a dutch oven. From my personal experience, I can say that the Ove Glove is more than up to the task. No signs of wear yet and protects my hands from the heat well.

One downside is the lack of forearm protection, which can be an issue whenever you are reaching into your oven.

They are silicon oven mitts. Last year I purchased a toaster oven to melt down our scrap PLA but forgot to order something to remove the trays with - we now have these really cool mitts...

Goal is to reuse the scrap instead of throwing it out. I also fixed a trashed paper shredder to quickly chop up rafts, failed prints, etc.

I use a thermopop, almost as fast as the thermapen, and under $30.

Also, I couldn't get by without my Grill Armor gloves. I can reach right in to the fire box, move burning logs and chunks of lump charcoal, move hot grates, move hot charcoal pans and water bowls, etc.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZORPCGG

I also use a set of grill armor silicone gloves for moving hot food.
