Mine:
1 SleepPhones wireless headphones is definitely the best single thing I've got since getting sick. Listening to audiobooks has been one of my main activities but I'd end up with my earbud wires wrapped around my neck. These I can sleep on in any position very comfortably and pull them down over my eyes when it's too bright. Must have.

2 on that note, an Audible subscription is also really good. You can gift books individually or a couple months of subscription time.

3 This heating pad is the best one I've found after much experimentation. Heats up really fast to a good temperature and is very flat flexible so you can wrap it around aching muscles.

4 This massage stick is also very nice for especially achy muscles that are hard to get into. It's really helped me break up some of my worst spots.

5 My wife bought and hung this hammock for me so I could get outside a little. Cheap, works well, and lets me see the sky a little again.

6 A kombucha brew kit has been pretty fun for me, doesn't take much effort for a good payoff, and supports healthy gut bacteria. There's not much more to it than making tea and mixing it in jars with fruit. Plus a lot of waiting around, but we're doing that anyway...

7 Finally, and this one is weird as a gift but it's still helped me a lot, is a subscription to Freshly. Freshly is a weekly food delivery service like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh, but they send you complete ready to heat meals instead of ingredients to cook with. Very high quality fresh food. I think of it as heating up really good leftovers. Been super helpful for me as cooking and doing dishes became too difficulty.

I've talked about my Plantar Faciitis before and have a couple of suggestions! I am 25 and have been dealing with this stuff for about 8 years now.

First off, start by wearing these Plantar Faciitis socks and massaging your heel/arch every night with this cream. It helps so much! The cream helps with inflammation and is a great way to get it down deep into your muscles. The socks feel VERY tight, but don't freak out, that's okay! They help! I wear them under my "real" socks when I wear shoes/jeans that will cover them so they don't show. My mom also has Plantar Faciitis and she has more of a "IDGAF" attitude and wears them ALWAYS, but I'm not on her level.

Shoe wise, check out some of the more "comfort" brands like Merrell, The Walking Company, Clarks, Cole Haan, LifeStride, Aerosoles, Dr. Scholls, Easy Spirit, and Earth Origins. Many of the shoes will seem ugly, but you will find a good shoe every now and then! I would also suggest going to a place like DSW and trying on all the different brands to find which ones fit you the best. My mom loves Clarks, but the arches on them are in a weird place for my feet. Bring your inserts with you wherever you go to try on shoes!! See if they fit in the shoes and sometimes you may have to get a shoe that is a half size or full size bigger because of them.

I used to wear heels to work every day and now I've changed my style a little because of my plantar faciitis. I now always wear inserts inside oxfords, desert boots, really any types of boots, or loafers. The only type of heel I will touch is if it's a wedge or a "chunky" heel (which is coming into style and thankfully easier to find nowadays!).

I personally use these and love them because they have different thicknesses for different types of shoes you may have. While they are more expensive than insoles you might pick up at Walmart, they are awesome! My doctor actually recommended them to me because I couldn't afford custom ones.

Once you get into a routine and get into the right shoes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel...I promise! I've been able to manage my pain and it's hardly a problem anymore. Good luck!!

u/gold3nhour · 3 pointsr/migraine

Fellow migraineur, here! I agree with you. It’s not a competition and I make sure people around me are informed of what migraines actually are—NOT “just a headache.” We learn to live in spite of the pain, period.

I always had migraines and they got worse after I had a (hemorrhagic) stroke. Long story, but the short version is I had a brain aneurysm we didn’t know I had, until it ruptured and nearly killed me. I was in my mid 20s when I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke, which is not the same as an ischemic stroke although either one is a seriously life threatening and life altering event! I am VERY blessed and grateful to be alive and function as well as I do. I know I seem “normal,” but oh is that so false!

I’ve had neuropsychological evaluations, so many diagnostic tests, medical bills and records to show just how real this invisible illness is. With that said, I don’t spend time or energy I don’t have to spend, trying to convince someone I’m in severe pain. It’s just not worth it! I totally understand the frustration, though.

I’ve had chronic migraines ever since my emergency brain surgery, and along with now having an acquired brain injury, I’ve had to make myself find a way to keep going! It’s very much do or die, and most days it feels like do even though I feel like I’m dying.

I’m seven and a half years out, next week, and I can say with 100% confidence, it’s very possible to look “normal” while you’re falling apart inside. You just find a way to keep moving.

One suggestion I learned from lurking this sub for over a year before I even joined Reddit, the headache hat!!! I’ve been on 13 medications (very much trial and error—felt like a science experiment sometimes) since February 2012, and thankfully Aimovig works well for me so far, but NOTHING has helped the way this has. I am down to three medications, two preventatives, one rescue.

Sometimes the headache hat by itself is just what I need to relax and relaxing allows me to reset my mind by not focusing so much on the pain.

It’s so difficult to relax when you’re in pain and are so tired of it, I know. The little things like this really do help! I even made sure my neurologist knew to please share this with other patients. It has been a huge help to me!

Link to the headache hat on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Headache-Hat-Original-Wearable-Headaches/dp/B00FGWLDR6

And if anyone needs a way to keep a record of migraines, the MigraineBuddy app (learned about it in this sub too) is awesome!
https://migrainebuddy.com

Hope this can help someone else, too. I’m glad this sub exists because it validates so much and it helps to share stories and know you’re not alone.

Y’all take care!

The best thing you can do is find a rescue -- usually your local wildlife shelter will have a list of "squirrel fosters", who are private citizens who will take in squirrels to rehab.

In the meantime, there are two BIG issues: heat, hydration.

People immediately think "food", but they will die of dehydration much faster than starvation. If they fell from their mom's nest and haven't been rescued, they may have been without hydration for some time.

Go to your local grocery store. In the "baby" section they will have a product called "Pedialyte". Pedialyte is an electrolyte replacement for babies with diarhea, and it is excellent for rehydrating. Get the unflavored version. Warm it up(TEST the heat; do not give them accidentally boiled liquid), and feed it to them with a syringe, or a dropper if you can't get a syringe.

Try to give them some more hydration every hour to two hours, for the first several "feedings." Digestion is dehydrating -- giving them food immediately can be fatal.

They need to be kept in a warm place. A box with towels and a heating pad or hot water bottle underneath will do(I know this link won't help you right now, but this heating pad on Amazon is a lifesaver if you look after orphaned animals. It is the only heating pad I know off that doesn't FREAKING TURN ITSELF OFF as a safety measure. This has been indispensable for me, looking after kittens, as I need it to stay on a low setting constantly, to keep their body heat up). Don't place them directly on a heating pad or hot water bottle. Again, you're looking for WARM, not HOT. Always err on the side of slightly less warm than you would think. You'd be surprised how much a space warms up when you leave a pad under a couple of towels.

For food, once you have them hydrated, they will take puppy formula(Esbilac).

Honestly, just read this: Baby Squirrel Care.

Also, don't underestimate a good local vet. While most vets are not at all wildlife care experts, you'd be surprised what animal lovers will do to save a life. They may also have contacts for people who can help you.

The majority of people who rescue squirrels, possums and raccoons -- "nuisance" animals -- are not officials with the wildlife service, or officially sanctioned rehab centers. They are almost always private citizens who became backdoor experts because some infant animal landed on their doorstep and they had to work it out. Wildlife centers and vets often know these individuals, and will make use of them as a foster home, as the centers usually have their hands full dealing with endangered and higher priority animals.

You should be able to ask for “what do I do at home to continue recovering? This is helping but I need to get an at home program since my therapy is ending. If I go back to training now I’ll injure myself. What do you recommend?” Let me be blunt. If you’re like me you put a smile on your face and say you’re fine. Make sure they know where you’re at pain wise and the fear of reinjuring. This way if they need to get more therapy approved they do that but you should ask for a program to transition to at home. Usually you should get a packet of exercises.

What else can help? Of course autophagy (some of us get really odd pains in areas that it seems to be working on, just so you know it happens
). Tens unit can help with pain. Dr prescribed pain patches (not opioids) called flector patches. You can get it in a cream too. Make sure you check what is cheapest if you’re in the US and if it’s pricey. The cream make sure to wash your hands and keep it away from pets and children. There’s a pill all else fails if you can’t afford patches/cream. The patch contains diclofenac but if you go on this and bruise another option is meloxicam. There are more but those are very common anti inflammatory. FYI do not get on a heating pad in the area with any anti inflammatory patch. The heat makes the meds come out quicker.

Over the counter options. Biofreeze (get the roll bottle) is a nice menthol freeze that helps a lot of people. Buy a heating pad. Get one of the new ones with the plush velvet. They look like this. Pure Enrichment PureRelief XL King Size Heating Pad (Charcoal Gray) - Fast-Heating Machine-Washable Pad - 6 Temperature Settings, Moist Heat Therapy Option, Auto Shut-Off and Storage Bag - 12" x 24" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KVYTV86/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_msnDDbMDZ0K5Q like the prescriptions I mentioned above I would see what the dr recommends if they want you to try an over the counter nsaid. Any NSAID can have side effects I just feel it’s safer to discuss with the dr if you’re on them any significant time.

If you buy a tens if not covered by insurance and need to save a few dollars you can buy a used one that works off eBay. There are hybrid ones that do tens, ems and a few other things if you look up the info and find you want more than tens. The replacement pads for it are cheap so just buy some wherever you find cheapest. Another thing that helps is the gyms warm pool if yours has one. Time in the jacuzzi if they have one. Otherwise a good hot bath with Epsom salts. Good luck!

Hi, I would definitely advise you to stop using antibiotics to treat UTIs. The reason is simple. Yes with the use of antibiotics, you are going to get better. But and a big BUT what happens when it recurs? And it will eventually. People tend to take another round of antibiotics and another without realizing the dangers you are exposing yourself to by taking all those antibiotics.

Try going the natural way. By this I mean manage a healthy lifestyle:

  1. Drink lots of water

  2. reduce caffeine, alcohol and smoking

  3. Start using probiotics

  4. D-Mannose

  5. hibiscus Extracts

  6. Boost your intake of vitamin C'

  7. Try using natural supplements: A good recommendation will be Harmony by Eu Natural. It is made completely from natural herbal extracts like those that I mentioned, vitamins and minerals. and very highly recommended. https://www.amazon.com/HARMONY-D-Mannose-Fast-acting-Protection-Impurities/dp/B016CCG256

Try doing the things I advised and avoid those that I mentioned. Eat healthy food, vegetables, fruits and I guarantee, you will not be needing any antibiotics of any kind

You might get a little relief by getting your feet wet. If your feet get cold from cool water you'll feel a little cooler for a bit.

I could cool down enough to sleep if I dumped water on me and climbed into bed naked and wet (bed directly under fan.)

Get some electrolyte packets from the chemist and mix with cold water. It's good for health generally when sweating a lot but I'm tempted to think that improving the electrolyte balance might help promote better sweating.

I find refrigerating aloe vera gel and then drinking helps make your insides feeling cooler. You can even apply that to the skin instead of the prickly heat powder.

Keeping the neck cool is important (like the feet, the head/neck temp plays a role in determining how your body feels.) I see abroad they even have speciality neck coolers. (Here's one on Amazon.in) Reviews are mixed, but the point is...figure out some way to keep the neck cool.

I've also had a little bit of luck fooling myself with a good quality app that plays sound of rain or a thunderstorm. Like Rainy Mood or Thunderspace and headphones. Try to get lost in the sound of the rain.

Also don't forget your fan capacitor. Your fan might not be working at full speed. I used to be in an apartment with a fan whose capacitor would go bad every year. My electrician would put a new one in for like 300-400rs. Made a huge difference.

Hi! I’m back!!
Although I thoroughly intend to write my birth story when I’m ready, I just finished my first piece since the baby arrived so in celebration, I’ll pair it with something useful.

I really appreciated posts like this while I was pregnant so here goes:

Things I didn’t know I needed:
(AKA things I have frantically ordered on amazon at or around 2am)

Bottle Drying Rack This probably seems obvious, but when we didn’t get this from our showers we were like... idk why we can’t just use a towel??

Safe way to cosleep My husband built a BEAUTIFUL Sidecar Crib, but it was attached on my side of the bed and it took 2.5 weeks for me to have healed enough to climb in bed around it safely with the baby. This way, I didn’t have to bend over to pick up baby or even spit up to check on/soothe him.

Lactation Suppliment My lactation consultant approved. This one worked well in my breakfast tea.

Better flanges My poor nipples were so sore and the flames that come with the Medela... well I’m not sure who they’re supposed to fit but not me. My doula practically ordered these for me. GAME CHANGER.

Pumping bra I was cutting holes in sports bras. This is better.

Nipple Shells Another kind reddittor sent me in the direction of this AMAZING INVENTION after I posted a photo of ice packs tied to my nipples with a burp cloth because I refused to wear a shirt my nipples hurt so bad. I will be purchasing these for EVERY PREGNANT WOMAN FOREVER. They keep your nipples dry, collect drips, apply counter pressure to keep your nipples shaped correctly for latching, and most importantly omg nothing touches the precious nips and you can wear a shirt!!

Car mirror

Me: that seems extra, he’s in a car seat and safe why would I need a mirror??

Hormones; HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH YOU FOOL

Car adapter for my breast pump Cheaper than batteries

Shade for his side of the car because anything that wakes up my sleeping baby is the devil. This one has a bonus that allowed me to roll the window down and it was HOT in the south

Better suction for the breast pump Again- just better than whatever they send you

My Breast Friend we got the boppy but this one saved my back

Heating pad Turns out I’ll do ANYTHING to keep the baby asleep when I transfer him to his crib including preheat the darn thing (on low!) before I lay home down

Stroller Caddy You’ll want somewhere to put your keys, phone, and coffee

Baby K’tan An easier way for my husband to wear the baby.

Leggings I had a pair of these before, and they are SO COMFORTABLE on my postpartum body that I bought 5 more in different colors!

•Extra pump parts for whichever pump you have

•A hands-up swaddle I found at Target

•Wine.

Anyway, hope this helps! Best of luck to all of you!

For PP care (uncomplicated vaginal birth, 1st degree tear) I used Depends Adult Diapers (maybe 20? Had a few left over), Dermoplast (the blue can!!!), Tucks Pads, and made padsicles (20ish) before hand (extra large maxi pads, alo vera gel, alcohol free witch hazel, a spattering of tea tree oil, pop in freezer). Hands down would recommend. My hospital didn't send me home with any supplies so I'm glad I went ahead and got some "just in case" items before hand. The adult diapers were pretty much like wearing comfy granny panties, not at all "diaper feeling" like I thought they'd be, and I could pop a padsicle in every few hours easy peasy without worrying about ruining underpants or leaking everywhere. Once the Depends needed to be changed out I'd just trash the whole thing and start fresh. No clean up - 10/10.

Pricing everything out I've listed (lazily) on Amazon my "kit" would be around $80, but you can find these things for much cheaper in CVS or your local drug store. Looking at the quantities included in your kit I'm thinking you'd have to buy additional products anyway (more pads for sure, more briefs most likely, and I'm not sure how easy it is to clean the compresses but the padsicles are awesome and disposable, major plus in my book). I'm not sure it's as great a kit as it looks at first glance.

ETA - I didn't need these for PP care but I do love having chux for the kiddo. I have a few in the diaper bag and lay them on nasty public changing tables before I lay down his changing pad for an extra layer of protection (and so I don't drag a dirty pad back into the diaper bag).

u/[deleted] · 4 pointsr/AprilBumpers2018

Hospital Bag:

Shower flip flops! Preferably in a larger size because if you end up with an epidural/spinal swelling can be major. No one told me that

Slippers for walking around the hospital - I like the moccassin kind that have bottoms are are almost shoes but not quite.

I liked having a silk robe for after labor and sitting around. It could cover me while nursing a bit. That robe became like my thing after wearing it in the hospital and my kids blankie/comfort object now.

I didn't bring any underwear or pads to the hospital - I knew they provided mesh ones for when I was there and plenty of pads. I took a ton home with me too.

An extension cord!! So my labor/delivery suite was a corner room usually not used at the time - it's better for tours and my shower light was broken. And it was a large room - and the plugs were like NOWHERE near the bed I was in. Thankfully my husband travels with extension cords (at the time he traveled a lot for his job and just grabbed that backpack) and we had some.

Snacks for after - I brought from Nature's Valley granola, crackers, etc

Long bendy straws - helpful while nursing (you need the extra length). Both in and out of the hospital.

Bobby pins and hairties!

Something relatively cute to leave the hospital in. I have a ton of photos from leaving, and I'm glad I had this purple dress on that I loved. It was just a jersey dress, but it looks nicer than sweats and those photos are my favorite.

Try and nab from the hospital:

-Mesh underwear

-Pads

-Sitz bath

-Newborn diapers, as many as you can

-Baby brush

-Baby sucky bulb thingy (I mean they scare me, but they let me have the one they gave me...soooo I took it!)

-Dermoplast

-Witch hazel pads

-Any ice packs - my hospital stopped giving them at 48 hours and I agree, it stops being really effective and the witch hazel was fine after that for me, but some people swear by getting more ice packs

-Footprints, discharge book, etc on memorabilia

Once you're home:

I'm an advocate for disposable underwear - I didn't wanna spend money on actual underwear or risk ruining my underwear - plus disposable was easy. My 'diapers' just went in the diaper pail with the babies.

Earth Mama Perineal Spray: I liked this so much better than dermoplast which just started to be too harsh. https://www.amazon.com/Earth-Mama-Perineal-Pregnancy-Postpartum/dp/B0065ZTKWS/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_121_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MAN9247RNVFT9QETD3X6

An extra thing of Tuck's witch hazel pads - I went through what the hospital gave me quickly.

Oatmeal cookies - they help with milk production and are easy to eat while nursing a baby. Hot oatmeal is NOT easy to eat while having a baby attached lol

u/youngmakeupaddict · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Mineral oil breaks me out personally (I'm in a tiny minority, it works for p much everyone else haha so don't worry too much), but when I used it I just bought any baby oil that was unfragranced (just has one ingredient on the back - paraffinum liquidum aka mineral oil). Johnson's does one called 'First Touch'. You can use regular fragranced mineral oil if your skin isn't sensitive.

Hemp oil wise, just buy any cold-pressed 100% hemp seed/hemp oil off Amazon. This would be a decent example http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nutiva-Organic-Hempseed-Oil-710ml/dp/B000GAO91K. :)

There's two formulas for Nivea creme, one that's made in Mexico (and available in the US) and one that's made in Germany (and available in Europe and the UK). The German formula is meant to be far superior, but if it's too difficult to get a hold of I wouldn't worry at all, they're both super moisturising. Be aware, though, they are SUPER thick. Like, it feels almost like nappy rash cream when you put it on your face, haha. You just have to rub it in for a couple minutes.

u/Tupley_ · 2 pointsr/braincancer

Thank you so much for responding!!! I really appreciate it! And I'm glad to hear that you did very well immediately after your surgery.

So, just to sum up:

  • In the hospital: nice pillows, soft sweaters, earbuds and music, medication tracker sheet, lattes and other comfort food? Were there foods that you would strongly recommend against?
  • At home: wedge shaped pillow, bendy straws, elastogel ice helmet (or some kind of helmet for migraines), scarves and hats? Thank you for the ice helmet tip, I think I will buy the Headache Hat (the Elastogel ice helmet is not sold in my country). Are there any other products that you think would be helpful? Any specific type of painkillers? Any house/furniture setup that might be helpful (i.e. would an angled armchair be useful?)
  • Other important things: being silly, enthusiastic and cheering her up if needed

And can I ask, if you don't mind, what are the headaches and cognitive stuff you dealt with that prevented you from going back to work? Do you feel the quality of your life has drastically suffered? If you were in this situation (a bit older, with children in their early 20s, very little family/social support), what long-term advice would you give to your kid?
u/bruxbuddies · 2 pointsr/RATS

I got a Snuggle Safe microwaveable heating pad and I use it every day when it’s cold Pet Heating Pad by Snuggle Safe,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014LJKUA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. It can hold heat for about 8-10 h. I put it on top of the cage above where they sleep, and I put a piece of cardboard under it so there’s no chance of nibbling, and I put a blanket on top of it to hold the heat. When I put my hand in the cage underneath it, it’s toasty warm but not hot. They can just move away if they get too warm. Another option would be an oil-based space heater. These are pretty safe and can be set to turn off when it gets a certain temperature. Make sure the cord isn’t by the cage and it’s not too close to the cage. Probably a humidifier would be good to add since it can dry out the air (as someone suggested). I only have two boys currently and one has been on antibiotics, so I really want to keep them from getting too cold (gets down to 60 F in their room). Also, fleece cube hides and pocket hammocks are good to have as options. They can really stay warm and you can add extra fleece to keep the heat in.

u/vespa59 · 1 pointr/Dryeyes

Just posting an anecdote for anyone else who stumbles on this thread:

I've had a bad dry eye situation developing in my left eye for a few months. It's most likely due to a chalazion or blocked duct that's caused some inflammation. The eyelid doesn't close properly so the eye dries out while I'm sleeping. The lump in the eyelid also puts some pressure on the eye. For a while, when I'd wake up it would feel like someone was ripping a piece of duct tape off my dry eyeball. It would burn and sting for an hour or so before I could properly function. I got it sort of under control by doing regular warm compresses and sleeping with a headband over my eyes in such a way that it put just enough pressure on the lid to help keep it closed tightly. I've also been using Systane gel or ointment overnight. I've gone back and forth between the headband and this hydrating sleep mask. With all that I was still having flare-ups a couple of times a week when I'd wake up. I found that a cold compress (damp washcloth with water as cold as possible) helps with the pain. My eye seems to put off a LOT of heat when it's irritated. Oh, I also take 1000mg of fish oil in the morning and another 1000mg right before bed.

Last week I had a really bad flare-up in the middle of the afternoon not anywhere close to when I'd been sleeping. The compress only helped a little bit. It was burning like fire and it felt like there was a gigantic splinter or something in my eye. It finally calmed down after an hour or so but it was low-level burning the rest of the day. The next day it started up again in the morning and took hours to get under control and continued to burn for most of the day. That's when I found this post.

I started the regimen described in the link on Friday morning and have been doing really well so far. I saw my cornea doctor this morning (I'd last seen him about three months ago when all of this started) and he said that most of the erosion is healed and that he's never seen such a drastic improvement before. My eye feels mostly better - I've been sleeping with the hydration mask on for the last few nights and I haven't had any flare-ups since I started TheraTears. I do feel like there's a slight burning from time to time, and every once in a while when I'm doing a compress I do feel the "foreign body sensation" a bit, but not as severely as I had before. My eyes still feel pretty dry when I wake up but as soon as I start the TheraTears regimen they feel more comfortable. I'm still doing compresses as close to 3x per day as I can, and still scrubbing my eyelids with baby shampoo every day as this hopefully will help prevent more duct clogging.

I'm cautiously optimistic. It does seem, right now, that TheraTears is as effective as OP says. I will also say that this is the most frequent eyedrop regimen I've ever embarked on/stuck with, so it could also just be that more regular lubrication is working wonders, regardless of the brand. I don't know, but I'm sticking with the TheraTears for now.

Here are a couple of other products I've been using:

Eye compress/mask. This is nice because you just put it on your head and don't have to sit there and hold it. Stays hot for about 8-10 minutes and pretty warm for another 10 or so after that. I heat this up for 23 seconds and listen to a podcast or something while it does its thing. Goal is 3x a day but I often can only manage 1 or 2.

USB heated eye mask. As many people have pointed out, this doesn't put out enough heat to be a substitute for other compresses, but I figure some heat is better than no heat, right? Sometimes I put this on at bedtime, set for 30 minutes. At some point later if I wake up after it shuts off, I switch to the hydration mask.

Systane overnight ointment. I put a blob of this in after the last TheraTears round for the day, right before sleep.

Genteel Severe Gel. I hit it with this any time it's feeling a little dry and/or fatigued, and I'm in between TheraTears rounds. I use this one if I can afford to have a blurry eye for a few minutes, but if I'm really busy I just go with regular Systane Complete drops.

If anyone is experiencing anything similar to what I've described, try this stuff. And with all of the treatments I've talked about (drops, compresses, lid scrubs), BE CONSISTENT. I know they are a pain in the ass and take up a lot of time but when I look at all the times things have gotten out of control with my eyes (I've had issues with chalazions for almost 20 years now) it's usually when I'm not being good about routines and hygiene.

Sure I'm happy to answer! I'm sorry you got it so young. Also that you fought so hard to keep on performing- that must have been really baffling and upsetting. I was lucky in that I knew what I had almost immediately due to my dad having something similar. I think it's healthy that we're retaining muscle tone, but may be causing symptoms because of its metabolic needs. Though I always take CFS theories with a grain of salt, Dr. Myhill's work has corresponded the best with my own experience- you can see her writing on what she believes are the metabolic causes of CFS: http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/CFS_-_The_Central_Cause:_Mitochondrial_Failure

As for the diagnosis, it depends what you mean by official. My main MD agrees and has written down that I have it, but I don't have any special paperwork. I basically talked it out with my doctor. I was concerned I had it because I was very tired and had intense PEM, and my father has similar issues so I knew about it. My doctor ran many many tests for alternatives, all that I personally researched and requested, and they came back negative. Basic blood tests, sleep apnea, thyroid, lyme disease, STDs, hormones and later an MRI which ruled out Lupus and MS. I sort of diagnosed myself? My doctor was a General Practitioner, not a specialist. He is a very intelligent man, but he let me decide for myself and agreed with me that it was most likely I had CFS. I've done most of my own research and decided what action to take on my own, because very few MDs know much if anything about CFS. However, I have been believed for the most part. I think a Neurologist would be more trusted than an GP for an 'official' diagnosis, but there are so many symptoms and potential causes that I feel more comfortable with a GP.

Where do you live? I live the USA and getting disability is very challenging, usually relying on a very specific test.

I've had CFS for three years. I also had a brief spell six years ago that lasted 3 months. It started with what I believe was Mono (it showed up on a test that I had had it). However that ended. My current bout came after a very serious four month depressive episode (the 3rd in my life) but no physical illness.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I haven't had any tests in a while, but will try a few just in case. I suddenly stopped being able to drink without feeling odd, so I'm going to get my liver checked, and also check for H.Pylori, a very common bacteria, because I've become more interested in the "2nd nervous system" located in the gut.

I really recommend ginger for nausea (ginger ale or ginger beer with real ginger is great, I also use pills and chews). It's the only thing that has actually helped me. I don't get headaches much, but I have this silly thing called a 'headache hat' and I love it.
https://www.amazon.com/Original-Headache-Hat-Wearable-Headaches/dp/B00FGWLDR6

Do you have shooting pains in the limbs or joint pain? I also have fibromyalgia and have some tips for you if you have it too. I've found colostrum (I take it in lactoferrin) helpful for muscle pain in general.

u/Bobert25467 · 1 pointr/sounding

Assuming you don't have access to a doctor try drinking cranberry juice. It is acidic and will make it harder for the bacteria to survive. But try to get 100% cranberry juice not the more popular version that has like 27%. It may be bitter but it's more effective. Also I used these pills and they definitely helped. They are better at preventing a UTI than treating it though. Take them like a half hour before sex or sounding and it should prevent or lessen the UTI. Harmony D-Mannose - Urinary Tract UT Cleanse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CCG256/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_z8wPDbHNP29V3

But going to the doctor is the best because a UTI can spread into you kidneys and become serious if left untreated. But I have found it also depends how you get the UTI. If it's from normal sex instead of sounding you may have more time to try home remedies before it advances into the kidneys. Also sometimes you only get a minor infection and the home remedies will be enough but if you get a fever it's advanced and you should get antibiotics.

u/brainhugs · 7 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I also used to get UTIs pretty much every month for a 2-3 year period of my life. It was hell. My doctor kept prescribing me antibiotics, which I took so often I think the bacteria in my urethra became resistant. There was one time I was in so much pain for so long I took too much Nitrofurantoin (the antibiotic) that it wiped out the 'good bacteria' in my system and I gave myself a yeast infection... on top of my UTI :(.

I was taking concentrated cranberry pills and drinking my weight in water daily, but I was always on the verge of getting a UTI. I would get one any time I had sex with my partner or drank more than one alcoholic beverage in a day.

I was so frustrated and miserable and worried that this was going to be my reality for the rest of my life. It was my partner who actually dug deep on the internet and found D-mannose, which is a sugar that's used to promote a healthy urinary tract. I am not a homeopathic/alternative medicine person, but I was desperate and totally down to try a sugar pill or anything that might help. Apparently the way that the D-mannose sugar molecule is structured, it attracts and bonds really well with the kind of bacteria molecules that grow in your urinary tract and cause the UTI.

D-mannose has changed my life. I think I've gotten an actual UTI once in the last 4 years (and I was in Indonesia). I use it when I think I might feel one coming on, and also as a preventative when I know I'll be drinking a lot or when there will be an extended period of time when I'll be more at risk (e.g. camping). It's mind blowing to me that I suffered for so long and talked to my doctor every 3-4 months to try to figure this out and just kept getting prescribed antibiotics. It was a huge learning moment for me with medicine and doctors. I ask every doctor I see now if they know about D-mannose, and so far no one has.

I can't know if this works for everyone, but I try to share this story with any many women as possible, because D-mannose has helped me get my life back. It's also cheap, you don't need a prescription, and it's on Amazon Prime! (Also in Whole foods for double the price if you're not able to order online -- I haven't seen it anywhere other than health food stores, but hopefully one day). Here's the one that I order: https://smile.amazon.com/NOW-D-Mannose-500-120-Capsules/dp/B000JN4CR0/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3NH0N6SBH0MH1&keywords=d-mannose&qid=1556468711&s=gateway&sprefix=d-manno%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-3&th=1

If this helps just one person I'll be happy! Hope the meds you got cleared it up for you :)

hey there, now the problem with antibiotics is that if the UTI recurs, like you said you are going to be put on another set of antibiotics. The risk with this is quite high for your health. I would advice you to try natural remedies. I am going to give you some tips that will help when you have a UTI and to prevent new ones.

  1. Use D-Mannose. D-mannose is a natural sugar that sticks itself to E.coli which is the bacteria responsible for UTIs. It is then easier to flash it out of your system by drinking more water.

  2. The second item is Hibiscus extracts. Hibiscus has some really amazing health benefits and will go a long way to fight infections in your system

  3. Eat Probiotics. These are healthy bacteria that help to fight against the bad bacteria. Yogurts for example

  4. Boost your intake of Vitamin C by eating fruits like oranges

  5. Consider some supplements preferably made from the items I mentioned. A good recommendation is Harmony by Eu Natural ( https://www.amazon.com/HARMONY-D-Mannose-Fast-acting-Protection-Impurities/dp/B016CCG256). This is by far the safest and most effective remedy I have come across.

  6. I briefly mentioned but I will like to stress it again. WATER! Drink lots of water not only during UTIs but on normal days as well

These are some tips from me, I hope you find them useful

Hey, you are not alone!! I’ve struggled with the same thing (even before I had sex so it’s not always sex related, like you said). I remember wanting to scream when someone told me to “wipe front to back” one more time...

I finally figured out what works best for me, and I think a lot of other girls would benefit too. The first thing is HYDRATION. I mean, really hydrate. Drink at least 1-2 liters of water every single day. This is so key for prevention. When I am very well hydrated, I never get UTIs.

Second thing: Order yourself some D-Mannose from Amazon. This is a miracle supplement for UTIs, just read the reviews. There are multiple brands of D-Mannose. You can order it online or they sell it at local health food stores and places like Whole Foods.

As soon as I feel a UTI coming, or if I know I’m gonna have sex, I’ll take 2 D-Mannose pills and drink a ton of water. It works like a charm, and soo much better than being on antibiotics multiple times a year.

(Also know that since it’s a supplement it’s not officially tested or approved, but just read the reviews on Amazon).

Just don’t forget to drink water every day, like 1-2 liters (not coffee, not coke, etc). If you’re well hydrated, you’re less likely to need any supplement for UTI. Water is best for prevention.

I don't take a capsule. I take this kind, but I chose it because it had good reviews. I wanted something cold pressed and unrefined.

I was just looking in the mirror and I noticed that my skin does look better. Now, I've been outside in the sun a lot and that always makes my skin look better (with sunscreen and a hat) and I've also been eating really well, which also makes my skin look really good, so I don't know for sure what it is, but I'm hopeful this is adding to it.

u/IksarNecro · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Hey man, late to the thread but I wanted to share with you what I did when I started having pain in the same hand.

This cream is magic. Use it as directed, especially put on a good amount before bed.

Another thing I did was stop mashing. I was hitting my next ability like 10 times during the gcd when it wasn't really needed. I now time my abilities and the strain is gone.

Also, buy a mechanical keyboard if it fits your budget. If you're using a membrane one where you have to depress the buttons pretty hard, that's added strain that's easily eliminated by a more sensitive mechanical board.

Good luck man.

u/Ag-hemiptera · 1 pointr/roaches

You'll need a large plastic bin, egg crates or toilet paper/paper towel rolls for the roaches to cling to, and a heating pad that doesn't have auto shutoff (I buy mine through amazon, if you get one locally be aware that the ones without auto shutoff from this brand have a switch not a button). The heating pad is sort of optional--the roaches won't breed as quickly but they won't die without the heat if you can't find one. You'll also need a screened vent at the top for air exchange.

For the screen, I used hot glue and regular (vinyl?) window screening. If you don't have a hot glue gun a silicone adhesive would probably also work. If your bin is soft plastic, you can cut through the top with a razor knife. However, if your bin is a harder plastic like the sterilite gasket bins, you might want to use a rotary tool to prevent cracking.

If you're concerned about escapes, get a sterilite gasket bin, add a vaseline barrier around the top of the bin to prevent escapes, and use metal screening.

I also recommend a temperature/humidity meter like this one. You can get them really cheap on ebay if you don't mind the temp being in Celsius. You'll find a lot of this style at similar prices from Chinese vendors. If you get another one, double check to see if it includes the lithium battery before you buy it.

As for the roaches, I got my original colony cheap from eBay. You can also find them on Craigslist or the Allpet roach forum sometimes. Or if you're an Ovogram member people will offer small nymphs for free from time to time.

I also had heat intolerance as a very early symptom. I loved summer as a kid, and 5 years ago, I thought I was dying. It felt like I was carrying weights on my arms and legs. I thought I was having a stroke, because I wasn't making any sense when I was speaking.
Now that I know this about myself, I am super careful on the subway, and being outside in general. I use these headbands, and honestly, they are awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone who has heat intolerance.

u/faerielfire · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I did this but I waited and blood started coming out. I had wanted to wait to make an appt on Monday to save money (I was really poor freshman year) but it just got too bad on the weekend. I went to the emergency room pissing half blood and the nurse was like 'oh shit' when she saw my sample. She said it might have made it to my kidneys. The analysis revealed all kinds of weird shit that sick kidneys release: glucose, leukocytes, proteins etc etc.

Since I waited and was subsequently underprescribed antibiotic-wise (3 days of pills = not enough!!!!), I ended up getting UTI's on and off for a YEAR, in and out of free clinics with not enough meds (somehow they tend to give you like 3 pills as if you're going to somehow abuse them??) Also, waiting for the open appointment time during free clinic required me to spend upwards of 6 hours not in school or work just to be seen. I finally bit the bullet and spent several hundred dollars on 2 good doctor's appts (really I was just buying the time of a non-shady doctor to actually LISTEN to me) and got the prescriptions I needed. Thank goodness at the time I had just gotten insurance near the end b/c I ended up getting a CAT scan ($3k wtff?) and cystoscopy (ouch!), and a bunch of specialty urologist's appts to make sure something wasn't wrong with my kidneys. I was ok and am now for sure but it sucked. My right kidney is slightly enlarged on the scan though, so that first infection may have just made it to that kidney.

I had to take preventative cranberry supplements after months of preventative antibiotics for like 2 years and now I just take the straight form of D-Mannose powder which is what makes cranberries effective in its pure form. I take it when I feel a slight tingling or when I feel I'm more susceptible to infections. Its amazing btw! More susceptible for me = caffeine, sex, and stress, or especially a combination of 2 or 3. It works as well as the preventative antibiotics, but of course, if I got another infection I would take the antibiotics my doctor proactively prescribed (to minimize time between sickness and appointment). Good luck laidies, and don't wait to see the doctor!

No worries, I know how topamax goes. Get some sleep and totally message me if you want tomorrow (either in this thread or a PM). I genuinely am worried about everyone on here and would love to help/be someone for you to talk to who can empathize. I truly think that being able to talk to someone who at least partially understands is really important.

I love freezy head things. My favorites are these black ones and I have this "helmet/hood" that I love sometimes. Depends on my mood (usually I just want the eyemask, but there have been times I've rocked both.

I keep 3-4 eyemasks around at a time so I can keep some cooling. They only stay cool ~20 minutes (I flip them over as they start to warm) so having a few cooling is good if I'm really bad and need to rotate. I find the hood stays cool longer (and that brand does make a normal eye mask that isn't bad, I just like the black ones better personally).

Sleep well!

u/bfut · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

nope, if you do a sour mash it only takes a few extra days.

  • basically mash as normal (you can do this with extract too) and instead of boiling your wort, transfer it to a bucket and add in a couple handfuls of unmilled grain once it gets down to around 120 deg F. wrap a heat pad around it and let it sit a few days.. trying it as you go until you are happy with how sour it is.

  • then you boil (optional even, I do 30 min since i'm happy with the sourness at that point) and add any hops if you want.. cool it, add your yeast.. once it's done fermenting transfer it to a secondary on top of the blackberries.

nice part about sours are that you don't have to worry too much about sterilizing the fruit. i usually just freeze them and then put them right into the secondary. bigger fruit i just chop up first and freeze them.

if you actually decide to do it this heat pad works great because it doesn't auto shut off and keeps a 6 gallon bucket at around 110-120 consistently - http://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-732-500-King-Heating-UltraHeatTechnology/dp/B000FGDDI0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398275216&sr=8-1&keywords=heat+pad
u/NSFWies · 1 pointr/CannabisExtracts

and you just let it sit? thats good news for me. i started off thinking you needed to heat it to decarb it, but that's not true. as i thought more about the commercial stuff, i thought they didnt heat it past 140F. i tried heating to 120F for 2 hours and it didnt really mix. i'm glad to hear that at a low temperature, over a long period, it does mix.

how did you keep it at 90F for that long? it would be really sweet if we came up with a method like

  • place the shatter and PEG-400 into a silicone BHO container and set that in an electric blanket set on low for 24 hours. that would be a great stealth way to get it to mix. but i know those bho containers are not odor proof. so i guess we'd also have to bag it a few times or put in one mason jar at least to try and capture all the odor.

man, i really want to get an electric blanket and a temp probe that records. hook it up for a few days and see what temp it sits at.

edito: this might be all we need http://smile.amazon.com/Sunbeam-731-500-Heating-UltraHeat-Technology/dp/B00075M1T6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408754388&sr=8-2&keywords=heating+pad

side thought here, i think you could do the following:

  • take bubblehash and dissolve it into PEG-400
  • put solution through syringe filter to remove the solids

actually, you could just do that just starting off with regular weed. only thing though is you might want to a rough filtering before the syringe filtering. you wouldn't need to do winterizing. those extra plant waxes wont be optimal, but i think it would just make your final concoction just a little less potent.

Empties:

  • Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser- I loooooooove this cleanser, not a HG item since it's not like it works miracles on my skin or anything, but it doesn't irritate or break me out or any of the stuff that usually happens to my skin.
  • Josie Maran Argan Oil- I know, I know. It's overpriced. But it's so easy to pick up a little $10 (or $14? I can't remember) bottle when in line at Sephora. I don't think I'll be repurchasing because I might have found a replacement.
  • Coconut oil- My skin (on my body) loves this shit. Baby soft err'day. And my hair drinks it up too. I haven't had a haircut in almost a year and this helps my postpone my haircut until I decide what I want to do with it.
  • Sample of F.A.B Ultra Repair Cream- It's okay. I didn't irritate my skin or cause a breakout, and it moisturized my skin well without feeling greasy, but it feels too plain for the price.

    Purchases

  • Nuetrogena Naturals Purifying Face Wash- I hate this shit. My face hates it. Even my sister (who isn't at all into skincare and will basically use whatever is in the bathroom) hates it. It irritated my skin and seriously dried out my sisters face.

  • St Ives Exfoliating Pads- They're very gentle. Brighten my skin overall, but do almost nothing for my post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. These irritated my sister's skin, which is strange because her skin hardly ever gets irritated, but maybe because it was her first time using any sort of chemical exfoliation (she's 17, I'm not forcing skincare products onto a 6 or 7 year old).

  • Stridex Maximum Strength pads (red box)- I haven't worked up the courage to use these on my face, put they do a pretty good job with my bacne! At first I was like "fuck this shit" because after I used them on my back a few days, I started getting these big cystic pimples. I attributed them to the Stridex and just tossed them with the rest of the skincare rejects under my sink. But because I'm stupid and am not one to learn her lesson the first time, I tried them again. And tada, they worked and didn't cause big red angry bumps. I'm still not sure what caused them the first time.

  • Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel- I wash my face with this when I feel that raw honey won't be enough. I like the way it feels and smells, and it doesn't irritate my skin.

  • More Raw Honey- Probably tied with Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser for my favorite cleanser. I love the way it leaves my skin moisturized and soft.

  • Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask!!!- I'm excited I finally bought something that's talked about on the sub. I just got his two days ago. Spot tested it on my chin, no bad reaction, so I tried it on my forehead and nose yesterday. No big improvement, but I like the way it feels. I also think it brought some of the little bumps on my forehead to a head, so I popped those little suckers this morning. (sorry for the gross imagery, I'm a picker, I can't help it)

  • Last, but not least... Hemp Oil <3 - I got it as a replacement for jojoba oil since it had a zero on the comedogenic scale (I don't know why I still really check it since something could be an absolute zero on the scale and still fuck my face up). I mixed it with some coconut oil when I got it, and oh my sweet god, it was the best body moisturizer ever. The richness of the coconut oil and the lightness of the hemp oil combined perfectly to create heavenly soft skin on my legs. I'm still not sure if I like it on my face ( I like the way it feels but I'm not sure if its clogging my pores). I decided to drink some in my smoothies at the same time I decided to try it on my face, and I broke out in a small rash/whiteheads around my mouth and chin area. This happens whenever I try to take any sort of Omega supplements, and I'm not sure why. :(

TL;DR: I'm sorry this is so long. I buy and try a lot of things.

I also suffer from migraines and really struggled during treatment.

I found my migraines were at their worse at the beginning of new medication (estrogen, progesterone, gonadotropins... didn't matter, they all sucked), but lessened after the first week. Hopefully this will be the case for you, too. My RE said Sumatriptan (Imitrex) is safe to take during treatment and pregnancy if this is a medication that helps you. My PCP recommended daily magnesium supplements (400mg), which I do believe reduced the frequency of my migraines. I also bought a headache hat so I could at least be mobile during migraines. I loved it so much I bought a second.

Sorry you're going through this, but hope some of these suggestions help!

I hired a running coach for training because I am more likely to succeed if held to it. So, I don't have documentation to share. However, here is a list of the exercises we did during "off days". You can type these into youtube and find numerous videos. (She even had me watch the videos when doing them on my own to ensure good form)

  • Bavarian Split Squats
  • Single Leg Raises
  • Single Leg Deadlifts
  • Lateral Lunges
  • One Leg Bridges
  • Forearm Planks
  • Side Planks
  • Flutter Kicks
  • Straight Leg Raises
  • Push Ups
  • Opposite Arm/Leg Raises
  • Tricep Dips

And here is a link to the ice packs I swear by

Also, if you have the budget for a luxury item, I'd strongly suggest these leg massage compression boots. The ones pro-athletes use cost like $1000 so to me these were a bargain. Or you can steal them from your grandma for some real cost-savings. After every run, I would ice and then slip on these boots. It really, really helps recovery until you start to build strength and feel less sore.

UTI queen here. I usually get 1-2 per month, typically because of a wide range of reasons. Most notably I get them after sex.

All of the things people mentioned already (pee after sex, drink water, avoid this and that, etc.), while beneficial, never did anything but make me stress about UTIs even more. If you’re like me, you’ve accepted that you’re more prone to them no matter what you do, so the most important thing is killing them without turning to antibiotics. (Taking antibiotics that frequently was concerning my gyno because of the possibility of developing antibiotic resistance.)

So now whenever I feel a UTI coming on, or when I wake up in the throes of one, I take high concentration d-mannose pills. You can find them anywhere. I get mine from Amazon. I’ve tried two brands: one and two

I tried #1 first and they worked beautifully! But I switched to #2 because you get more for your money. But I might switch back because #1 is slightly faster-acting. You’re supposed to take them as daily supplements—I don’t cause I get lazy, but they work just as well as emergency meds. I don’t even have to take those AZO pills that make your pee orange (unless it’s a particularly strong infection).

I haven’t had to touch an antibiotic since and my gyno says I’m completely healthy. (I also suck at drinking water.) Good luck!

EDIT: As for yeast infections, I got tired of dropping money on Monistat, so I take a Boric Acid suppository once a week or, when I get one, everyday until it’s gone. For general maintenance, I use Summer’s Eve Aloe Love Cleansing Wash, though I don’t know if that actually does anything. At the very least, it’s not harmful and claims to balance your PH.

There’s some clinical evidence that it can treat UTIs that aren’t responding to ABs and for me the relief was pretty quick. Good luck - you must be miserable!

I have The Headache Hat that my boyfriend refers to as, "The Turban of Pain." It's amazing and I don't know how I've lived with migraines for so long without it.

This is also in the realm of drugs, but more of a natural, or a controversial, remedy depending on how you look at it. I sniff tobacco, called "snuff" or what South American cultures call rapé (pronounced, ra-pAY). This is helpful when I get a headache near my eyes or in my sinus areas. It's completely stopped migraines from developing. I can answer some questions if you're curious about it.

I also use a mouth guard at night that I had made at my dentist. It helps protect the nerves in my teeth/face from getting irritated when I grind my teeth. I don't sleep without it.

Rocky Mountain Oil company has a Migraine Support blend that I've found works better than other essential oil companies/MLM's. You can either get the one linked there and dilute 20-30 drops of it with fractionated coconut oil in a glass roller bottle (make sure it has a metal roller - plastic will dilute in the oils), or purchase the roller they sell for $15.

I've had good experience with the cream Penetrex for connective tissue issues (tendons and ligaments especially). It might not hurt for you to at least try out this topical cream. I'd rub it in thoroughly at least three times daily for several days and see if it helps.

Disclosure: I don't represent Penetrex. I'm just a happy customer. Good luck!

  1. Yes, condoms make UTIs more likely for me. Female condoms are much better than male, and no condoms is best.
  2. D-Mannose pretty much cured me of my frequent UTIs. I take it with a huge glass of water whenever I feel like I might get one.
u/merlyn923 · 5 pointsr/reptiles

It's really all pretty simple. Keep them in a opaque rubbermaid tub. Cut a hole in the lid and hot glue a piece of screening to prevent escapes. You don't need any substrate - the roach frass will quickly accumulate and make a nice substrate. The nymphs actually tend to eat the frass, so you don't want to disturb or clean it too often. For heat, get a human heating pad. I use this one. Works like a charm. Put it under the tub on one side. Then you just need egg flats for them to hide/live in. You can order them online for cheap, or see if any restaurants have extras/left overs they are willing to give you. I got 70 flats for about $10. As for food, my opinion is that laying chicken feed is the best option. You can always throw in extra/old veggies and fruit as well - just don't give them anything that might be toxic to your reptiles. They do LOVE oranges though, and it puts them into sexual hyperdrive. For water, you can use water crystals. These absorb water, so there is no pool of water for the roaches to drown in.

My only other advice - let the colony do its thing for 4-6 months before you start regularly feeding out of it. They take that long to reach maturity, and if you fed out of the colony before then, it may collapse or not reach stable population of multiple sized roaches.

u/TheMaskedMarauder · 4 pointsr/Cooking

my heating pad is a Sunbeam... same kind of heating pad you might use to soothe a pain in your back or shoulder.

This isn't the same model but it looks pretty much the same

Sorry, don't have a camera at the moment. If interest in this post persists I'll post a pic.
I can describe it i think... take a towel, fold it in half, then half again. place the heating pad on top of the towel. Roll the towel and heating pad up (like a cinnamon roll). Place the roll into a pot and allow it to unroll, leaving an open space in the center.

This is the glass cylinder jar I use.. the tallest in this pic. Place that in the center.

should I try to clarify more?

I experimented with water first, to make sure I could maintain the 110-120 degrees required. I use a probe thermometer to keep watch on the process.

I've had really good results with just a regular heating pad. I keep it under half of the bottom so the other side is more cool, and they can self regulate how warm they want to be

And I feed mine anything. Oranges are a really good food, I give mine any fruit scraps I may have. They also like regular granulated sugar, protein powder, and recently they've shown they like grape jelly on white bread

u/Vanbone · 1 pointr/migraine

Oh man, I'm so sorry. This does not sound like anything I've ever dealt with. When MY migraines last multiple days, they sort of come and go. The first day, usually it's really, really bad. Then in goes away for a while, but it comes back the next day, usually around or a little after day #1, and then it's really bad again.

But day#3 and beyond, it's the same story, but reduced intensity. Like if migraines were a ball, the first bounce would be day#1, and each bounce after would have less force. Is that similar to your situation?

Tips I've developed over 20 years:

  1. Treat when the pain is minor, not just when it's serious Migraines start small and they grow in intensity. Almost anything you do will be more effective when the intensity is lower. So treat it THEN. Don't wait until it's bad.

  2. Pain over the eye: If you experience pain over one eye, treat with heat. My personal favorite is to stand in a hot shower with water pouring onto or just above the point of pain and dripping down. This is often more effective for me than medication.

If you are attempting to drive somewhere with this symptom, turn up the heat full blast. Turn the car into a giant heat pack. This will make you sweat balls, but it can be very effective treatment

  3. Pain in back of neck: My worst symptom is often pain at the back of my neck. For that, I find that two things help immensely: A) Lying face down on the mattress. This is counterintuitive, it will FEEL wrong at first. But give it a few minutes. A half hour face down on the mattress has cured my back of neck pain a few times and frequently reduced it. There is one caveat though - sometimes the pain will subtly move back to my eye while I'm in this position, and when that happens this is no longer likely to help. B) Use Heat Packs: This may or may not be common sense, but heat packs are great treatment for this symptom. I use one that wears kind of like a cape

  4. Misc:
Cold bands are often very helpful. Sometimes going back and forth between heat and cold is especially effective.

Best of luck. Don't stop trying
u/PJsAreComfy · 1 pointr/Pets

Similar to that design, just got my cat this one and it's really nice. Prior to the bed, he would lie on this heating pad.

I'm trying to combine the two right now. The cat cave has a thick, plushy cushion so the pad doesn't work under it, and the pad's kind of stiff so no good on top of it. I used safety pins to secure the heating pad cover across the inside top of it, which seems to be working well. It's like a cozy low-temp oven inside!

u/waterboysh · 1 pointr/keto

Get one of these (or 2 so you can swap them out and always have 1 cold). For many, cold can provide some extra relief and these are awesome because you don't have to hold it and it's gel, so it's flexible and doesn't get as cold.

I'm 30 and I have had migraines since I was in middle school, so I've had some time to learn my triggers. Heat, bright light, and physical exertion are my biggest ones (I live in Florida... the cruel irony). I do have some food triggers though and I learned by going on keto that carbs/sugar is one of them. I've been on keto 2 years now and it has definitely helped. I have been using Migraine Buddy to track my migraines since March, and according to it I have had 19 migraines. That comes out to one every 1.7 (8 x 4 / 19) weeks on average. I wasn't tracking before keto, but it definitely felt like it was more often than that.

u/terminal_veracity · 4 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

Your situation sounds a lot like mine. My pain and fatigue has been diagnosed as fibro by a neurologists, 2 rheumatologists, and a pain management specialist, but I'm still not 100% convinced.

>Doc said since they can not find the issue, it must be Fibro.

This is the problem. My neurologist says that what we can fibromyalgia is probably multiple conditions that just aren't adequately understood yet. More mainstream doctors see fibro as a diagnosis by exclusion, where they rule out each of the more likely conditions and what's left must be fibro. This makes fibro something of a trashcan diagnosis. It also leads to the problem of when do you stop looking for alternative explanations?

In your case, consider seeing a neurologist. With a simple nerve conduction study/EMG, they can rule out a lot of insidious problems.

Maybe see a rheumatologist too. They can do a more complete workup based on blood tests, many of which can be rather obscure. There are, however, some rheumatologist who either don't believe fibromyalgia is real or simply won't treat it.

Also, be sure that the easy stuff isn't overlooked like Vitamins B-12, C, and D as well as iron/ferritin, testosterone, cortisol, and thyroid function. Get evaluated for sleep apnea and tested for Lyme disease too. All of these things can be done by your primary GP doc.

>Any advice on Pain relief

I'm far from an expert on this. It seems that most of us with fibro find some combination that works for each of us. The academics tell us that true opioids don't work for fibro, but there seem to be a lot of fibro folks who disagree. For me, the combination of Lyrica, tramadol (synthetic opioid), and Tylenol works ok, cutting the pain in half. Also, there are 2 versions of tramadol: the immediate release version that lasts 4-6 hours and the extended release that lasts 12 hours. For me, it helps to have the ER version for the baseline pain plus the IR version to deal with spikes. There is some science to support the effectiveness of tramadol to treat fibro and that Tylenol can potentiate the tramadol.

I try to keep a "fibro toolkit" with a few things that help a bit with the pain, but also put me in control. Maybe some of these could help you too:

  • Exercise - I know this one is tough, especially when you're hurting and out of energy, but it does seem to help a little.

  • TENS - This can have some short term effects. It takes some time playing with it to find what helps. It also puts you in control, at least a little bit. Even the cheap $30 ones work.

  • Cold packs - In general, I don't like the cold either, but with the heater on, I like to use the Chattanooga ColPacs, especially after excercise.

  • Compression - I regularly use compression sleeves for my forearms and calves. It seems to give me a bit more endurance. Also, the Nylatex wraps for the cold packs help.

  • Bengay, especially in the summer. Sure, you'll smell like you're 90 years old, but the cooling effect does seem to reduce the pain a little. It helps with exercise too.

  • Lidocaine patches - For me, these seem to help only in specific areas (like my calves). They can be cut to fit. There are some OTC ones. Larger ones are available via prescription.

I agree with the other comments that you should really work on getting the temperature up in your house in general.

Aside from that, I have heated pads that my cats love to sleep on. I've had them for over four years now and they're still working great! You just have to make sure you set them on low only, as the medium and high settings get too hot to handle for more than a few minutes at a time.

D Mannose changed my life. Seriously. Trick is how you take it: if you feel a UTI coming on:

  • pee first if you need to
  • put a teaspoon in a small amount of water (like 4 oz), mix, drink
  • this is the critical part: don't drink anything for about 45-60 minutes.
  • Then, when 45-60 minutes is up, drink a ton of water and pee

You can repeat this if you want, but I have found that 1 or 2 times stops a UTI in its tracks. If you have a raging UTI, then do it every 1-2 hours for a bit. You could also use it preventitavely, such as after sex or before you go to sleep, for example.

D-Mannose works by binding to e-coli in your bladder. (UTIs happen when the e-coli sticks to the walls of you bladder - so anything you can do to keep the e-Coli moving along and out is good. Cranberry has the effect of making the walls slippery and harder for e-coli to stick to). Then you pee all of it out (the e-coli and the d-mannose). e-coli is the cause of most UTIs, but occasionally it can be something else.

You can buy it on Amazon for cheap but if you can't wait, I got mine once at Whole Foods for way more $$. You might also find it at a local vitamin type store. Definitely get the powder form - the capsules are good for travel but I feel less effective.

No side effects for me. My understanding is your body does not absorb d-mannose. It's been a great, over the counter alternative to antibiotics, which mess up my gut flora, BCPs effectiveness etc.

Of course, if this doesn't work quickly, or you have more severe symtoms (such as a fever), definitely go to a doctor.

On a side note, there were some studies (or urban legends) a few years back that chicken is a major contributor to UTIs. I cut down on chicken (as well as occasionally taking d-mannose preventatively after sex) and have not had any UTIs for about a year
u/Polydactylcat44 · 3 pointsr/raisedbynarcissists

Also agree that seeing an MD would be wise!
I don’t know very much about the legal system, but it sounds like you have literal years of medical documentation of her refusing needed treatment. That really seems to me like she should be made to pay for all of your treatment now, as a bare minimum. Talking to a lawyer would be a really good idea, I bet you have some form of legal recourse here.
Also, I have chronic pain and I have a heat pad that I use for at least 4 hrs almost every day, and it has really improved my quality of life.
I upgraded to this huge fancy one a while ago, but there are many cheaper options!

I have 2 skinnies and neither of them got on well with any clothing. Mostly just freaked out and tried to get them off ASAP (rip photo opportunities).

I tend to just leave a couple of fleece blankets in their cage which they burrow into and they seem to be happy enough.

Recently I just bought this which they absolutely love. As soon as I added it to the cage they instantly ran over to it to snuggle. Am considering getting another as there were harsh words between them until they realised they could both fit! I've put it in their cage before work, and when I got back it still had some residual heat which was good too.

Place the cage on top of a heating pad (set on LOW heat), the warmth will radiate up to warm the bedding. Make sure the cage has LOTS of bedding for them to burrow in for warmth. Put the heating pad under 1/2 of the cage, so that if it gets too warm they can move to the other side to cool down.

Coming from a woman who has chronic UTIs: Kratom has had no direct effects, positive or negative (for me at least) when dealing with a bladder infection. One thing that's monumentally important while battling a UTI is flushing your system. Because kratom can dry you out, it's important to drink massive amounts of water to flush out your bladder.

I've tried all the treatments, and been through way too many antibiotic treatments for UTIs. After seeing several dozen doctors, my most recent recommended D-Mannose. It's a god send.

It's a sugar that binds with bacteria in your bladder and continues through your UTI tract, flushing the bacteria away. I use it both preventative and as a treatment. I get infections a tenth as often as I used to. I highly recommend it if you struggle with bladder infections.

Best of luck!

Sounds like you need some SMR (self myofascial release). Get a beastie ball (or lacrosse ball if you don't have access) and work it into the bottom of your calf muscle and the bottom of your foot. To get the calf, sit on the floor with your butt all the way back against the wall and place the ball under your calf. Work around until you find the painful knot then lean forward and keep pressure on it. For the bottom of the foot, take off your shoe and stand on it while holding onto the rack. Work it around your sole. Working both of these areas should give you some relief. (You can also stand on a rumble roller with no shoes to work your soles, just hold onto the rack!)

The other thing I would recommend is Penetrex. This stuff is really effective at relieving plantar and tendinitis issues.

I'm not familiar with the Fingertraps, but it might be worth checking out some different shoes if the above doesn't help resolve it. Good luck!

EDIT: Don't be afraid to rest! You'll probably want to avoid runs until it's felt better for a couple weeks else you risk aggravating it again. Swap rows for runs until it's had time to heal.

I'm assuming you're most definitely not a mutant, but for lack of knowledge in this field, I'll throw out a few suggestions. When I talked with my GYN about UTI-like symptoms, she recommended making dietary changes regarding bladder/urethral irritants. Mostly taking out tomatoes, really starchy or citrus-y foods. I've seen similar recommendations floating around for individuals with forms of interstitial cystitis.

Something else I've seen thrown around here has been the mention of D-Mannose, which can be used in powder or pill format. It's meant to prevent bacteria from adhering to urethral walls and therefore causing or escalating symptoms. I forget the full details, but it's something about the bacteria being heavily attracted to the sugar particles or something. I haven't seen it in many stores (but if you have a local Rite Aid, most carry it mixed with cranberry pills), though it seems to be fairly popular on Amazon.

If you are peeing blood clots, I would suggest getting medical attention immediately. Putting it off will only cost you more, as the worse it gets the more your kidneys will suffer, and kidney intervention is much more expensive than an office visit + antibiotics.

HOWEVER, for future reference, there is a supplement called D-Mannose which is an excellent cure/preventative for UTI's (it is essentially a highly concentrated version of what you find in cranberry juice) https://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-Mannose-Powder-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467939990&sr=8-1&keywords=d-mannose, and only costs about $15 . Now, being in the healthcare field, I am not what you would consider a 100% Naturalist in terms of medicine, but I have used it myself and have found it to work successfully on beginning-mid stage UTI's. There is evidence-based research that supports its use, and more and more it is looking like a viable alternative to antibiotics.

EDIT: fixed some typos

I like to use these reusable hot packs when I need some heat quickly. They hold heat pretty well. I haven't used them on a face, but I'd suspect that if they were wrapped in a microfiber washcloth, they'd feel pretty nice.

For the hardwood and tile floors put down some rugs to help her walk. One of my little guys plays the floor is lava between our rugs, and dashes up and down the long runner in the living room. Super cute.

Getting her used to people is really only a matter of time and patience. Bunny trust is hard to earn, and easily lost. Quiet time on the floor with her, treats... that sort of thing.

As for sitting out in the rain; three of mine quite enjoy it, if it's not a very heavy downpour. Wild buns are keen to be out in the rain, because it puts off predators. Domestics haven't all lost that instinct, even if they have lost their waterproof coats. You could put something out there for her to sit under. That way she can stay dry but be outside. I've got some planks resting over a couple of buckets, and an old deck chair opened to the lying position with a blanket thrown over it for mine.

If you're worried about her being cold you could get a snuggle safe. You heat them in the microwave for 5-10 minutes and they stay warm for hours. I've got two that I put in the shed for my outdoor buns in winter. What about D-Mannose

ETA- I read about this supplement here on Reddit somewhere and saved it on my Amazon wishlist. I don't get UTIs often. Only two in the past 15 years...so there it remains, on my Amazon wishlist. Lol.

Edit 2- I just remembered why I added it! I bought it to add to my cats' food since I have one cat that is prone to UTIs and a boy, who by default would be prone to them. Adding the powder version to my cart now.

Also, would "cats' " be right if I'm talking about multiple cats of mine? Or would I just say cats? Halp!

I had pain in my wrists when I started out. It's gone now but this is what I did to fix it:

  • took two weeks off playing
  • slept with wrist braces to keep my wrists in a neutral position all night. This maximizes circulation and promotes healing. I still sleep with these.
  • stretch for 5 mins before every practice session
  • applied Penetrex anti-inflammatory cream after a long practice session.
  • practiced in front of a mirror to make sure my posture was good and there were no awkward angles in my wrists
  • switched to classical position and got a nice adjustable foot stool.

That pretty much cleared it up, but I didn't have any serious pain or anything. Just the early onset of something nasty. Definitely take care of it now before it gets bad.
u/Gardener_Artist · 2 pointsr/eczema

I get flare-ups on my face and neck pretty regularly. It usually happens when I'm stressed or dehydrated or come in contact with something I'm really allergic to. There are definitely days when I feel so self-conscious about it that I don't want to leave the house.

For immediate relief, I use Colpacs. They make a really big one that stays cold for a long time. When I'm so itchy that I can't fall asleep, I pull it out of the freezer, wrap it in a thin towel, and lay on it.

To treat a flare-up, I use a strategy similar to morallyirresponsible. I dip a washcloth in ice water and lay it on the flared-up area. When the cloth gets warm, I dip it again to make it cold. After about an hour, my skin is usually calm enough for cortisone cream and moisturizer. It takes a couple days of diligent attention, but eventually it works. Maybe it would help you too?

I'm in a long distance relationship. So when we see each other for the few days we tend to get pretty busy. I used to get UTIs every time and one time I got a kidney infection. UNTIL I discovered this stuff called d-mannose (http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-Mannose-Powder-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90). You can mix it with water and use it to flush out your bladder and urinary tract. Read the comments on the amazon link for instructions on how to use it. Total lifesaver, haven't had a UTI since I started using it. Cranberry pills and juice did nothing for me.

u/riotgrrrl69 · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you have UTI issues or sign of infection I would 100% recommend taking D-Mannose , a supplement that takes the bacteria in your bladder/urinary tract and flushes it out the next time you pee. It CHANGED MY LIFE. I’ve had lifelong chronic UTIs (since before I was sexually active) and this is legitimately the only thing I’ve ever taken that has helped (that’s not antibiotics). Just take a couple before bed for a few days and see if it helps! I only take it now if I feel burning when I urinate and it immediately clears it up. Good luck:)

u/esoomcol · 1 pointr/WTF

You should try D-Mannose - it's a type of sugar that you just put a teaspoon of it into water or cranberry juice. It's pretty awesome as a UTI preventative. I used to get UTI's all the time, and I haven't had one since I started using this.

u/gypsywhisperer · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Yep, that's the easiest way to prevent a UTI.

Major props to you for going to the doctor. I went to the clinic because the morning after I had a fever and I had smelly urine, but the school nurse said it was way too soon to be a UTI.

The next day, yeah, it was bad. I went to the ER and they gave me some medicine (I had gotten antibiotics, but they gave me something that relaxed my bladder because I was in so much pain. It made my pee orangered.)

I also have taken these and I don't know if they help, but they're something to look into.

From wikipedia: "
Mannose, packaged as the nutritional supplement "d-mannose", is a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates. Mannose is a C-2 epimer of glucose. Mannose is important in human metabolism, especially in the glycosylation of certain proteins."

Basically, you can take it in either capsule form, or powder form. While it's technically a sugar, it does wonders in the urinary tract/bladder. If I recall correctly, they think that it prevents the bacteria from grabbing on to the bladder lining, so you're able to finally get rid of it. Something like that.

It worked so much better than cranberry, for me. Apparently d-mannose is the active ingredient in cranberry juice? So, why not just take it straight, instead?

I don't usually link Mercola as I think he's pretty quacky, but all of this sounds right.

Your doctor is right-- you will look different after the surgery. This is why it's critically important to find a surgeon that shares your aesthetic vision on what your nose should look like. Since my surgery I have never thought that I don't look like myself. In my case, my surgeon ensured I retained my some of the ethnicity in my new nose, and my mom says it looks like the nose I had when I was a kid.

If you feel comfortable pming photos of your face, I could try to speak on how a rhino would change your overall face and make suggestion. Before choosing my doctor, i spent entirely too much time researching rhinoplasty and facial

My surgery was 85% functional and 15% cosmetic---surgery was over four hours removing polyps and resetting breaks and fixing the septum. Recovering from my surgery was horrid, but made better with a few specific products. I tried a ton of different ice packs and stick by these

  • Buy two of these wraps because they only last about 30 minutes before needing to refreeze.

  • Fill latex/medical gloves with frozen peas. It looks ridiculous but really helps

  • these knee wraps are amazing for rhinorecovery because they mold so well to your face

Also know these two important things
  1. Post-Surgery depression is not uncommon and it may hit you before you're even out of the bandages. You may feel that you regret the surgery and wallow in self-doubt. this is completely normal and will pass.
  2. Your nose can remain swollen for 2-3 years after the surgery. The immediate results you see will be very swollen, and you should to wait a few months to see the full affect

In addition, I've found it helpful to look for stretches on youtube for the muscles surrounding my problem areas. A lot of pain is due to muscles tensing up around injured regions, so stretches + foam rollers can help too.

Check out the reviews, everyone is using these things. There's other mods you can do like adding a case fan but I really didn't want to go through all that.

Got a cheap one off amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00075M1T6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

It's also water resistant, which is nice for kitchen use.

Well, there's also hemp oil sold as a food ingredient. It has no CBD. Example

I think it's specified CBD hemp oil so no one goes buying that thinking they've found a fantastic deal on a CBD source -- and if you read reviews on those products many have

For anyone out there with back pain, I highly recommend getting a heating pad like this one. It's been a huge help the last few days. They should turn off automatically after about 45 minutes so you don't have them on all night. I rearrange them when I wake up depending on what's bothering me:

http://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-732-500-King-Heating-UltraHeatTechnology/dp/B000FGDDI0/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463760928&sr=1-2

I get the Now Foods capsules, but they really just contain the powder, so either form is fine. You can get it at any Vitamin Shoppe or on Amazon as linked. It seriously changed my life. I think it's awful that it's not more well known as a treatment, and that every sexually active woman doesn't have some D-Mannose in her house! For me, it was the only thing I needed to do -- and believe me, I tried everything before I stumbled across it.

u/Kells1357 · 1 pointr/Endo

My absolute favorite is this oversized heating pad. It doesn’t get too hot to burn but hot enough to bring down the pain, and turns off after awhile. Full disclosure, I fall asleep with it on the highest setting all the time and have never gotten burned.

Although, this is another one of my favorite options. For me, the heat from water is much more therapeutic (see my massive water bill for the several hot showers a day I take haha). But this is like an old fashioned rubber hot water bottle. A lot of them come with cute covers on them. You pour hot water in it and it literally lasts the night.

Finally, I personally don’t like this because it is too tight on my belly, but some of my other friends with endo swear by using this at work. It might be more discrete in the workplace.

This is the one I use. You can use any one really, just make sure that it does NOT have the auto shut-off feature. A lot of them do, so you have to be careful when buying. Push button ones usually have auto shut-off and dial or slider switch ones usually don't.

u/RazzBeryllium · 2 pointsr/hamsters

What I would do is get a plain old heating pad (something like this) and stick it under the cage (not in it!) so that the heat radiates up through the bottom. However, don't have it extend the full length of the bottom of the cage -- maybe only half or a third. If the pad heats up more than it should, you don't want to overheat your hamster.

The ones made for pets tend to be gentler, so you could also try something like this.

For warmer bedding, you can try Kapok shell fluff (like this, but can also be bought at PetCo). It has shorter fibers than the cotton fluff that causes controversy, so is safer for your ham.

You can also get a space heater and put your ham near it (but not too close, because you don't want to go overboard and overheat them).

Here's links to the products I use.

https://smile.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-733739028105-D-Mannose-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90?sa-no-redirect=1&th=1

D-Mannose is basically the distilled cranberry sugar that helps with urinary problems (and you obviously can't make your cat drink cranberry juice). I use the gelcaps and give him half of one per meal mixed in with his wet food (so about 500mg per day (1/2 tsp) while he seems to be having issues). I only give it to him if he seems more highly stressed out or has been licking his bottom more frequently and it has cleared up those symptoms. Usually for about 5 days until I am certain it won't recur. Unfortunately if he's already blocked or in a more serious state it can't do anything to help that :(

The product linked above is just the powder without the gelcaps, which is slightly less expensive.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013OSMVG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

Glucosamine Sulfate is the same stuff they give to people with joint issues. It's good for that but also lowers inflammation overall and has been shown to help rebuild the bladder lining. I give him 1/2 capsule twice daily mixed into his food. Again this is only given when he seems to be showing symptoms rather than at all times.

u/RollWave_ · 6 pointsr/TheSilphRoad

I remember back when the most important accessory was an external battery.

Hard to believe I used to be able to walk outside for 6 hours and never have any issues besides battery life.

Nowadays the most important accessory I have to carry with me is cold packs:

https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Packs-Overheating-Relief-IceWraps/dp/B00ZVI485Y/

u/Sifumohksi · 3 pointsr/migraine

My doctor gave me 800mg ibuprofen to take with my rizatriptan. Some studies show that when combined it actually boosts the effectiveness. Rizatriptan on its own wasn’t that effective, but together it did the job.

Also, my head gets hot so I use an head-wrap ice pack

Hi! I got reoccurring UTIs for years and then got this D Mannose . I take it any time I feel one coming and it knocks it out almost immediately. It works on UTIs caused by e-coli.

Also drink lots of water. I get dehydrated easily and I think that lends to their start. Try to pee more frequently throughout the day even if you don’t “need” to.

u/moonsweetie · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

So...I never been to Arizona & I just started riding this spring (winter/summer, stupid Smarch weather). But I was in Iraq and Kuwait. Obviously, I was not riding motorcycles over there. Instead, I was driving semis without air condition* all while wearing the uniform & helment & flack jacket & bullet proof vest*. All that gear in 110+ weather. It was miserable. The only thing we could do was DRINK WATER. And lots of it.Get a camelbak and just drink water.

Also, something like this is amazing! They can apparently be made easily, though I never made them, only had them in care packages :) A lot of blood pumps through your neck and keeping this cold thing on your neck helps keep that cold and thus you cold. Well, cold isn't the right word. Not hot is a better way to describe it.

And you will eventually become accustom to hot climate.

Seriously, who the hell pays $500 do REMOVE the A/C from a truck? The Army, that's who!

**Not Army issue. Someone in the platoon was a cop and got some sent over from his buddies back home.

D'Mannose helps. My Girlfriend had issues of getting UTI's quite frequently, D'Mannose regularly and just more water helped a lot. She can normally "kill" them prior to becoming a full blown UTI and need to get antibiotics.

Dunno which one is best, but there are a bunch of "migraine hats" available... Would let you "wear" your icepacks

Ice Packs

Also, using external power (battery pack) is one of the biggest gains you'll get.

u/ceebee6 · 2 pointsr/sexover30

I've tried both this and this and they've helped. It might be worth a try.

u/yetifunk · 3 pointsr/cfs

I used to go through phases where I’d get at least 1 UTI a month for 5 months in a row. It got to the point where I’d just burst into tears every time I realized I had another one and was SO anxious having sex or drinking anything besides water. I forget where I read about it (might have been on here) but I started drinking a teaspoon of D-Mannose powder in a glass of water every day and haven’t had a single one since. It’s been a little over 2 years. I still have other bladder issues like frequency, trouble emptying, etc. but no infection or pain.

This is the one I buy. It comes in capsule form too but didn’t find it as effective. Plus, the powder tastes really good.

It can be a little pricey but beyond worth it imo. UTIs are ass. I hope this or something else you find helps <3

u/1Bryan · 1 pointr/yogurtmaking

Here is a heating pad I've actually used:

https://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-732-500-King-Heating-UltraHeatTechnology/dp/B000FGDDI0/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1506267351&sr=8-1&keywords=B000FGDDI0

I has 3 heating settings... when I put it on medium and wrap a towel around the cooking pot, my yogurt stays about 105 degrees F. Placing a cutting board under helps send heat to your fermentation vessel.

u/OrangeCurtain · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

Heat pad: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006IV4N

Ive just been setting the fermenter on it, but taping it on the side would probably be better. No need to heat the yeast cake.

Wearing a Headache Hat right now. I'm going to buy another one next month, and am also entertaining the idea of a third. I know you can buy extra ice squares, but I'm not going to want to take them out and put them back in when I have a migraine.

I use these for hiking. You boil them and then they be reused again. They last around 30ish minutes once they are clicked.

u/Umbristopheles · 1 pointr/daydream

Get something like this.

I've used these both frozen and room temperature. When frozen, I wrap a single paper towel around it in case of condensation. When they're at room temperature, they don't work as well, but still provide a sort of heat sink that wicks away heat from the phone instead of it being insulated.

u/studdmufin · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

Not the most elegant solution but it won't overheat

u/PoniesRBitchin · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Other idea is to fill a sock with rice and microwave.

But really, invest in one of these before shark week strikes again. Practically saved my life in high school before I got on birth control and could have a manageable period.

u/CanadianDiver · 3 pointsr/scuba

Correct.

Those are based on a chemical reaction to oxygen. Once immersed, no more heat.

Side note: Don't use them in a dry suit with Nitrox.

Something like THIS will work in a wetsuit.

u/redneckrockuhtree · 1 pointr/BeardedDragons

Something along these lines

Not the exact model, I'm sure, as we've had it for 15+ years and I just grabbed it from the closet. I have no idea of actual brand or model anymore.
