Budget - $100-$150 USD

Source - I'll be using this with my laptop. I don't intend to invest in an amp. I'm not an audiophile, but I do like crisp audio.

Requirements for Isolation - The more isolation, the better. I don't necessarily need complete noise blocking, but I will be wearing these while I study in college. It's become a habit over the years to leave my headphones on while sitting in front of my laptop reading.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - I will almost never use these in public. I'm not too picky about the aesthetics, but I don't want something too gaudy.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Not entirely sure, but I've really liked the HyperX Cloud IIs since they fit around my ears. I can leave them on all day and not feel uncomfortable. I've also had the Tracks Air Wireless headphones and they were comfy, but the leathery feeling got slightly uncomfortable if I wore them for long periods of time. I didn't really realize it until I switched to the Cloud IIs. I'm open to all types of headphones in this category.

Preferred tonal balance - I'm not an audiophile. I think I need a fairly balanced soundstage (is that the right term?). Bass is important since it feels like a lot of songs I listen to lean towards that side.

Past headphones - Currently using the Cloud IIs. I love the quality of the headset and its audio is great. It blocks out noise decently and feels comfortable since it completely covers my ears. They're a bit heavy, but that is a non-factor in my next headset purchase. The bass isn't bad, but I feel like it doesn't pop.

I've also used the Sol Republic Tracks Air Wireless headset which was great. I picked up the Cloud IIs because I wanted a headset with a mic for voice chat. Unfortunately, the Cloud IIs, while being great in every other aspect, don't have good mics. No matter what I do the mic volume can't be raised on my end and I'm always too quiet for my friends to hear. That is a dealbreaker since the whole point was to get a headset with great audio and a clear mic.

Preferred Music - Pretty big mix of genres, but I tend to stick to vocal-based pop and chillstep. That being said, my interests change pretty often and I haven't been listening to a ton of music lately. This headset is mainly geared towards gaming. So if there's a good headset that can provide true 7.1 surround sounds or something that would be great. The Cloud IIs have this fake Surround Sound that is pretty gimmicky.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I'm looking for a headset that has good audio. I'm not expecting amazing since I'm going for a mid-range headset with my budget, but audio is important. The more noise isolation, the better. Wireless is a plus, but I have no problem with wired if wireless heavily detracts from audio quality. I will primarily be using this for gaming and voice chat with some music thrown in there. The voice chat is actually the reason

Other notes - I've mentioned this several times above, but I'll compile what I'm looking for here: I'm looking for a headset with good audio quality across the board. Maybe with slight emphasis on the lower range? True 7.1 Surround Sound for gaming is nice, but not required. The more noise isolation, the better. So probably not an open back headset. This is where I might be asking in the wrong place, but I'm looking for a headset with a good mic as well. I don't think I want to get a clip-on mic even though it would be the logical thing to do. However, if you think I should just keep the Cloud IIs and buy a clip-on mic or another mic, I'm open to suggestions. I'm pretty flexible and I'm willing to listen. Again, not sure if this is the right place to ask. I'm currently looking into the Steelseries Arctis [5] (https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Arctis-Headset-Illumination-Headphone/dp/B01M16Y46E) or [7] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYNEIEI?ref=emc_b_5_t). Any opinions on these would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance and please let me know if you need any more info!

This is quite a long post but you probably should read it all. I also searched for the best possible sound on the PS4 for the cheapest price and tried almost everything.

Astro Headsets are NOT top notch. They are just OK. They have extremely elevated bass that drowns out the footsteps and clarity.

Razer again are completely overpriced and sound worse than 30 dollar headsets.

Sony Gold Wireless is decent and wireless which is also nice. But they sound a little bit muddy compared to the HyperX Cloud II. But sound better than the Astro's.

I have every headset listed except the Razer Kraken 7.1 but I do have the Razer Megalodon which was absolutely horrible and I had so many issues with it and the firmware updates fixed nothing and the sound from the headphones transmitted over the mic even when isolated so it was a wiring issue. I just would shy away from Razer at this point. I hear too many bad things about them all the time with build quality issues. Although I do think they look really cool.

For PS4 in my experience all USB sound cards sound terrible. I have tried the Syba, the Sony Silver USB Adapter, and the Logitech G430 USB sound card.

If you don't want to think about anything, buy these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Astro-A40-Gaming-MixAmp-Pro-With-All-Cables-for-Ps3-Ps4-Xbox-Window-and-Mac-/142172429854

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GSP-Gaming-Headset-507079/dp/B01KV3BB0S/

This right here will probably be the best setup available for the cheapest price. The HyperX Cloud II could be substituted for the GSP 300 but HyperX Cloud II's do sound slightly less clear than Sennheiser. These GSP 300's look like a refresh of the PC 350 SE but with reduced ohms but I currently do not have the GSP 300 so can't tell you if it sounds different than the PC 350 SE but if it sounds like it, it will be great for gaming in every way.

Here are further explanations for why you should get those two.

The new MixAmp Pro TR has horrible metallic surround sound.

Example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtNF1i2eSwg

It really does sound horrible so I returned it and got the MixAmp Pro 2013 edition from eBay and can tell you that it sounds absolutely fantastic. And much better than any of the USB stuff. Because of the Digital Optical connection. It is very important that if you go this route that you set up the MixAmp Pro 2013 correctly. You have to make sure that in the PS4 settings that the output to headphones setting is set to CHAT ONLY or you will not get the surround sound features through optical. You will get the standard stereo USB sound card of the MixAmp Pro 2013 instead of the optical which sounds much better than the other options.

The MixAmp also really is an amp. It pushes my PC 350 SE 150 ohms perfectly. The other USB adapters do NOT amp and I can not get my PC 350 SE's loud enough through controller or any USB adapter. So the MixAmp pro does definitely amp. But I should mention any headset above 150 ohms or lower sensitivity would probably not work with the MixAmp that well or it would be really low volume.

Also Sennheiser is extremely well respected for their sound and I own the PC 350 SE (And the G4ME One) and can tell you that it has the best sound of any gaming headset out there except maybe the ATH-ADG1X but those are 300 dollars.

Also, I can confirm that the USB adapter that comes with the HyperX Cloud II does not support surround sound on PS4. No USB devices support surround sound on PS4 unless you buy it straight from Sony. The Sony Golds and Sony Silver USB adapter are the only two devices that support USB surround sound that I know of. And it is not that great compared to what the MixAmp Pro 2013 offers.

Now for the part where I will tell you that if you want the audiophile solution, read further.

Most gaming headsets really do suck compared to a pair of audiophile headphones and an add on mic.

So in this area I will recommend this solution.

For audiophile experience you are going to want to get these SHP 9500's:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826138190
And this add on mic (Uni Directional with Mute):
https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-ModMic-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00R98JVVU?th=1

I don't recommend that V-Moda BoomPro even though it works perfectly with the SHP 9500's. It picks up everything in the room and since PS4 does not offer a push to talk feature I would stay away from it. It would be perfect for PC gaming though with a Push-to-Talk button.

If you get this with the MixAmp you are going to have the absolute best sound quality with the best mic quality for that price. No doubts whatsoever.

If money is really not an issue. I recommend the Sennheiser HD 598's with the ModMic and the SoundBlaster X7 with the Bluetooth USB adapter for chat. It does not work with Xbox One for chat only optical.

And if money is not an issue AT ALL then I recommend the Sennheiser HD 600 with the ModMic and the SoundBlaster X7 and the MixAmp Pro 2013 so you can put that into the X7 and use the line in and it's audio mixing capabilities so you can switch between SBX and Dolby Headphone with the MixAmp and choose the one you like the best.

I hope this helps you make a decision. I own most of the stuff mentioned and this is all from personal experience. But you should also note that sound is highly subjective so you may just have to purchase this stuff from Amazon so you can test all of it and send it back if it doesn't meet your needs or expectations.

  • Budget: $200 preferred ($300-350 if it's significantly better for price/performance)

  • Location: US

  • Source: PC w/ ALC889 and very rarely potentially my Yamaha RX V765

  • Isolation: None (Home use only)

  • Preferred Type: Circumaural - Full-Sized Over Ear (OPEN)

  • Preferred Tonal Balance: overall balanced

  • Past Headphones: Steelseries Siberia V2 (With USB Vitual 7.1)

  • Preferred Music: Gaming and music - I seriously listen to everything except dubstep unless someone on twitch is streaming it :P - I generally listen to hip hop and rock, but also enjoy classical and other easy listening.

    Background/My Thoughts

I generally prefer to invest slightly more in my things for better quality and longevity. I'd happily invest more in things if I knew it was more likely to last or if the quality is significantly higher for the cost.

The left speaker in my siberia just stopped working. I am very close to grabbing the Sennheiser G4ME ONE's used from Amazon because I have a $50 gift card waiting to be used and I'm a sucker for great price/performance.

I figure either $200 for a headset OR $300-$350 for Headphones + whatever else.

    Option 1: Headset w/ Mic

I don't necessarily need a headset w/built in mic, I'm aware of the modmic option, but if I'm not mistaken the G4ME ONE essentially an HD 558 just with the added microphone which will be very nice for me due to how much I'm on vent/Teamspeak when I game. I don't see the point in investing much more than 150-200 for an all-in-one because as I understand the quality doesn't go much higher from here anyways.. so to get more quality I'd look at option 2 and by that point it seems to be very costly to compete with the HD 558. And since I can get the ONE used for 150-50=$100 that seems like a great option.

    Option 2: Headphone + Soundcard OR DAC/AMP + ModMic

Unless someone knows something that I don't, this is where I'd be spending more than the $200, and hopefully only if it's actually going to be 50-100% better. I considered the AT-ADG1's in option 1 above, but I don't believe they offer $100 more in value over the G4ME ONE (White/red new is $200)- please correct me if I am wrong.

Here are of the products I considered for option 2:

  • HD 598
  • DT 990
  • AKG Q701 (Or K701 - but I like the Q design)

I am assuming I'll need to add another 100-200 on top of the headphone to drive them.

If there are any options that let me gradually upgrade/add on the DAC/Amp I'd consider that, but my impression is that certain headphones need to be driven properly from day 1. I realize that any headphones, even the G4ME ONE would benefit from a better amp or soundcard, but if I go for them then I don't plan to get another soundcard or external DAC/AMP anytime soon.

Any advice/thoughts on this or anything else would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the wall of text. :D

Sorry this will be a lot of information, but when you're buying something that sits on your ears for hours at a time, you want something that feels good.

Newegg has the Gamecom 780 on sale right now for 28 bucks. They usually float around 50-60 bucks so it's a really good deal. The only problem with them is they're not very drop friendly as they're plastic. The audio and mic quality are amazing for the price though.

If wireless is more his speed a Corsair H2100 is in your price range or a Logitech G930. I just recently bought a Corsair VOID on sale for 95 bucks and it was the best decision I've made in a long time, best wireless headset I've used. (but normal price is about 120)

Links:

Gamecom 780 priced 27.99

Corsair H2100 priced 99.99

Logitech G930 priced 84.36

Corsair VOID wireless priced 129.99

Pro's and Cons:

Gamecom 780

  • Pro: One of the best gaming headsets in the $50 range.
  • Pro: Easy to setup software, buttons on headset are easy to reach and use
  • Con: Very prone to breaking, if they fall the wrong way, they're toast
  • Con: Wired, I belive a 6 foot cable. Very limiting in distance (if you buy one of these buy a USB extension as well)

    Corsair H2100

  • Pro: Very good entry wireless headset, clear mic audio and decent sound quality
  • Pro: Wireless so no cables in the way
  • Con: Battery life
  • Con: Distance is short before cutout

    Logitech G930

  • Pro: Easy to use and reliable
  • Pro: Good range on headset (longer than H2100 and roughly same as VOID)
  • Pro: Build quality is nice, audio quality is decent
  • Con: Wireless receivers die before the headset does (will start with randomly dropping connection)
  • Con: Mic gets white noise in it
  • Con: Not very loud/Charge doesn't last long

    Corsair VOID RGB

  • Pro: Strong build quality, clear mic, great battery life
  • Pro: Good quality audio, can go very loud, bass drivers are decent
  • Pro: Long range, Similar to G930
  • Con: Software interferes with some other programs currently, Corsair is working on a fix (The headset does not require the software, it is just used to control simulated surround sound and lighting)
  • Con: Feels loose on your head, the mesh fabric makes it slide against your hair
  • Con: Users have reported turning on/off the headset can sometimes put the headset into a failed mode, and require being plugged into the computer to fix (i have not experienced this and could have been fixed in a firmware update already)
u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/buildapc

I agree there, a 760 is just fine is you don't need the performance. If you really want a headset i can only really recommend the ATG-AG1 since i have not personally experienced any other really good headsets but im sure they exist. For normal headphones the best bang for your buck high end headphones I recommend the HE400.

The Modmic is a fantastic detachable boom mic that just sticks on to whatever headphones. It has great audio quality. The only real downside is that you will have 2 cables since both the mic and your headphones will have a cable. This isn't an issue for me, I just clip them together with some plastic clips I found and it just feels like a thicker cable but it may affect you. It attaches a base to your headphones with an adhesive and then both the base and the mic have a magnet which allows it to be attached and removed whenever you want.

If you feel like ignoring me cause i'm a stranger on the internet who can't be trusted, I suggest you get open back headphones because they just sound better. The only reason to get closed back is if you game in the same room as a baby and can't leak any sound or whoever you live with is an opera singer and never shuts up and you need to keep sound out. Active noise cancelling is basically trash in most cases too, just get better isolated headphones.

Another SSD is also a great idea if you want more fast SSD storage but I don't know if you need it so...

If you are fine with your headphones and can't tell the difference between apple headphones and $500 IEMs you may benefit from a good chair. Gotta take care of that ass. If you want to go over the top you can get something like a DX Racer chair or just go to ikea and sit in a couple till you find one you like for like 1/5th the price.

u/Ganrokh · 3 pointsr/WorkOnline

I've been working from home for a little under two years now. My setup is a little pricey, but I've paid for it working completely online, so that's a nice feeling.

I currently don't have a desk (won't have room until I move in with my girlfriend in a few months), so I work on a laptop for now. The laptop is a gaming laptop. I have a gaming laptop because, I'm not looking to simply "work" for an income. During the day, I work online while my laptop mines a cryptocurrency in the background. Crypto mining has definitely been a profitable venture for me. In the evening, I stream for a few hours on Twitch. I'm not a big established streamer, but I've made a little bit of income from streaming.

Because of not having a desk, I don't really have room for a second screen. However, I do have a Acer R11 Chromebook that I usually keep a couple Chrome tabs open to monitor various things. The touch screen is really nice as well.

My mouse is a Razer Naga. I am a man of efficiency and I believe that, for online workers like ourselves who are usually getting paid by getting work done and not by the hour, efficiency and productivity are key. The keypad on the side of the mouse work wonders. Being able to program different keys and even scripts to them is amazing. Some people prefer the Logitech equivalent to it.

The headset is going to ultimately come down to personal preference. There are many, many different headsets out that that come in all sorts of shapes and styles. Do you want over-the-ear? On-ear? Do you want the band to go over the head? Behind the head? Do you need a wireless headset because you have kids at home and you need to get up often? Reviews may not be too reliable as well. For example, with gaming headsets, if you go to any gaming forum or subreddit and ask about gaming headsets, people will have you believe that the HyperX Cloud II Headset is the greatest headset put on God's green earth. It just wasn't for me. It was a little tight on my head and the audio was a bit too "in my head", which gave me headaches. I much prefer the Astro A40 TR Headset.

Finally, you're going to want to protect your eyes. If you work online, you're going to be staring at a screen for hours on end. If you're looking at a screen, you're exposed to artificial blue light. Artificial blue light is meant to emulate sunlight. Exposing your eyes to it will strain your eyes, which can disrupt your sleeping patterns, cause headaches, elevate stress, etc. That's only in the short term. In the long term, well, screens emitting blue light haven't been around long enough yet, so we don't really know what the long term effects of it is. Still, you need to protect your eyes. There are a handful of companies that make glasses designed to specifically filter out blue light. When I used to wear specific glasses for this, my preferred brand was Gunnar Optiks. I say "used to wear" - I had to get prescription glasses recently and my eye doctor offered blue light protection in my glasses. I believe it's called "Prevencia". If you have to wear prescription glasses, ask about it next time you see your eye doctor.

Hope this helps!

Edit: I forgot to mention F.lux. F.lux is a program that reduces the amount of blue light your screen emits based on the time of day, emulating a sunset. At night, it gives your screen a red/orange lighting. At night, after the sun has set and F.lux kicks on on my screen, I take my glasses off. It's a very nice program.

Sennheiser GAME ONE Black $130 - back ordered 2-4 weeks

Sennheiser GAME ONE White $150

Kingston HyperX Cloud II - $98

Kingston HyperX Revolver - $108

Astro A40 - $150

Of those I'm partial to the Sennheiser GAME ONE's, and the Astro A40. I've used exclusively Sennheiser headphones for the last 7 years and have loved them. The GAME ONE's are open back though so you will get a little less bass but a more open sounding sound stage. The Sennheisers are also far better for music than anything from Kingston, Razer, Logitech, or SteelSeries. Also in my experience, Sennheiser headphones are always quite comfortable. The mic quality is also very good on the GAME ONE.

The Astro A40's are just really good all around. Good sound quality, good mic quality, good overall build quality. Very solid option around the $150 range.

If it were me buying it, I would go with the Sennheiser GAME ONE, my second choice would definitely be the Astro A40's though. The SteelSeries Siberia 350 hasn't been getting the best reviews from actual users. I don't put as much stock into professional reviews because they never account for longevity of the device and are based more on technical specs than actual real world use.

It really depends on what your priorities are though. If you're concerned more with the sound quality, the Sennheisers or Astro A40's are the way to go. If you're more interested in extra features, some of the other brands like Corsair, Logitech, and SteelSeries will have some other features (like RGB lighting for example).

If you want an audiophile grade open back headphones you can get the phillips shp9500 with a vmoda boom pro(replaces the 3.5mm cable from the phillips with a 3.5mm cable with a mic attached to it that actually works really good ive personally have used the vmoda boom pro, and these also dont have much bass since they are open back but will give you a good soundstage and a more flat overall sound which is great)

Ya I got mine and they are a dream. It works with every console, PC, PS4, PS3, XB1 and XB360 (I don't know about Wii, but I doubt you are getting them for that). The mic sounds like a dream from what my friends say and the sound quality is amazing. There is even a special mode you can put the headset in to make games like COD easier because it makes footsteps louder. You can even have it connected to the console and PC at the same time, all you have to do is plug the optical cable into the console to get the sound how you normally would and then plug the USB power cable into your PC instead of the console. You get sound from your PC and console and you can change the levels by pressing the buttons on the headset. I usually do it so I can talk to my friends on Skype, but you can do it to listen to music or whatever you want. If you aren't rolling in money then you can get a refurbished pair for $100 less (It's refurbished by Astros themselves so it's good). If you have any other questions I be happy to help, I have nothing else to do.

Edit: The first refurbished pair I got didn't work, so I just sent them back and they sent me another pair in 5 days and they work great.

u/BionicSammich · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I'm going to assume the $120 is just for the headset and not for the mixamp too. What not just buy a set of A50s if thats the case? They are expansive, but great quality and well worth it. The surround sound is incredible and its not something ordinary headphones will support. The only downside is that you have to charge them regularly (every 8-10 hours of use or so), but you can do it while using them. Make sure you buy a second toslink/optical audio cable. One for the XB1 and one for the 360. That way, you can just plug out the cable from the receiver and plug in the other to switch between the 360 and the XB1. You don't need to do this if you plug your 360 into your XB1 with the passthrough. I've got individual cables for the XB1, 360, PS4 and PC and its super easy and fast to switch between them.

I think its well worth saving up a bit of extra cash to go for the A50s. If you want to save some money on it, go for a refurbished pair from Amazon. They are checked over by Astro to make sure they are working properly. They are basically headsets that someone returned because they didn't want it or something small was broken and had to be fixed. I have a refurb pair myself and they are absolutely solid. You wont be getting the new model, but the only difference is the colour (this one is nicer IMO). The A50s are a stead at just under $200

EDIT: I forgot to mention two things. With that refurbished model, you'll need to pick up the Xbox Stereo Headset Adapter too. You'll basically need to for voice chat only. Just set up the A50s normally and just turn up the chat audio on the adapter (bottom left button) all the way and it will eventually cancel out the game sound from the adapter. Then just use the volume on the adapter and headset to fine tune how loud the game and voice is. I set the adapter at full volume and use the heat set to blend the chat and game sound to how I like it. Its much simpler than it sounds.

Another cool thing you can do with the A50s and Chat adapter is plug in your iPod or phone and listen to music when you're not chatting to anyone. You will lose all chat audio while listening to music though (game volume is fine since its coming from the Astro receiver).

Hyper X Cloud Brand. Im currently using a Hyper X Cloud Stinger and its fantastic. Great audio, great mic and great build quality. And its fairly cheap. You can even push your mic up so its not annyoing you when you are not using it. Hyper X Cloud 1 and Hyper X Cloud 2(newer and better generation) are also great headsets.

Regarding the comfort of the DT 770 I'll tell you that. The silver earpads did last me for less than a year, so much shorter than earpads in any other headphones I owned so far. A new set of earpads is £18 - £20 on Amazon. And I still think it is a great deal. They are so soft that they flatten over time much quicker but also they cushion your ears really well and even they wrap themselves precisely over the glasses creating kinda tunnels. For me they feel pretty much weightless when I'm wearing them. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOijylpB4AIcmaGr_Yjj1RYzuHraULVERhjIF4dozR-_ges_5tuk51lE-XKG8-cgQ?key=R1lCSkhHQmhCVmF6M09LSC0wSlNQdjFmQUktSHpR

Gamerzzzz Headsetzzz 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 – that's all I have to say about most of these. One of the few exceptions would be: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LRX2DSA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They offer decent sound, decent microphone and they are £40.

No problems with the Antlion magnet. I was worrying that it would be interfering somehow with the magnets in the headphones but it looks like it's not the case.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to all the helpful people here who are so willing to share their knowledge, and to u/ZeosPantera for his handy guides.

This was the very first project I wanted to complete in our new house, and considering the delays due to missing/wrong pieces for the furniture, my reluctance to punch holes in the walls in our new place, and so on, it was a bit of a pain to take on. My main goals were to keep it simple, modern, and clean, and I think I managed it well enough.

It's a basic setup, and I know there are some taboo things people will point out (e.g. speakers too close to the corners/walls, non O2-free copper-clad wire, etc), but the important thing is that I'm happy with it. I don't plan on changing much for years to come (unless you guys end up pointing out something that ends up bothering the crap out of me). It looks and sounds great - even the wife loves it, despite her initial skepticism when I first told her my plan (probably the most important thing).

So many thanks to everyone in this subreddit for being awesome, and let me know what you guys think.

As requested, here are the components.

Location - UK

Budget - ~£60, flexible on price. Lower is also perfectly fine.

Source - Will be using them for Console gaming mostly but with a chunk of films and music also. So a bit of everything but mostly gaming.

Requirements for Isolation - Will be using them at home so no preference here, open or closed is fine.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over Ear / Circumaural. I have a large head and fairly large ears and will be wearing them for fairly long periods of time for gaming so large cans would also be preferable.

Preferred tonal balance - Not too sure, whatever is best for the things which I will be doing. Maybe a bit more on the Bass side.

Past headphones - I am new to the world of decent headphones so my past consists of the bog standard apple and in ear Samsung earphones etc.

Preferred Music - Fairly general taste in music, little bit of everything but probably favour R&b/Rap and dance/ electro a bit more.

Notes - I have spent the past week looking into getting a pair of headphones but I am still fairly lost as to what to get with such a huge variety. The AD700s and Senn 558s and other models above those are widely recommended but they seem to cost almost twice as much in the UK as they do in the US and so they are out of my price range which is disappointing.
Audio Technica M50s and Senn HD 518s can be had for around £80 but they are really pushing it price wise for me unless they are definitely worth it. Found some cheaper Senns like the 419s or the 429s but what is their quality like? Sony MDR-V6s are also another pair i have seen recommended.

Obviously for gaming I would pair these with a clip on mic of some description. something like the Zalman clip on or similar and a 2 to 1 splitter to plug into the DS4 controller. The dislike of gaming headsets is well known but never the less I have seen a couple recommended here and there and they are reasonably priced so it's not a total loss if they are useless: [The Logitech G430] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CJ5FPUE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2LHKRQNKZ0EPX&coliid=I1XWGCGB108WMV) and the Plantronics GameCom 780.

PS4 will likely be my console of choice that I will be using these for if that makes any difference. I have seen lots of talk about surround sound in relation to gaming headphones but a lot of it seems to be for PC, will it function properly on consoles too? does anyone know if the sound would be impacted if I was to plug into the controller jack or the USB slot on the console?

Thanks in advance.

u/jmakegames · 2 pointsr/Twitch

Audio Technica make some legit headphones. They're gaming headsets are based on the much of the time on the same architecture as their normal phones; THESE have a pretty great mic (though lacks low end you'll find in a condenser or dynamic XLR), and I imagine the sound is awesome.

I use Audio Technicas but haven't had hands on with their gaming range - a friend has the ones above and says they're awesome, his mic sounds good though it's compressed through the apps like teamspeak and general gaming, so for streaming it will probably sound better.

I just use a Zalman clip on mic. Sounds fine for VOIP but I won't be using it when I start streaming.

For speakers, if space is an issue, you should get the Micca MB42X then, as they're much smaller than the JBL LSR305s. Or you could even just get the Micca MB42. I have the JBL LSR305s and a fairly small desk and they fit. I have a 23-inch monitor and one speaker on each side of the monitor. You may also want to get a DAC for your speakers, like the Schiit Modi 2 / (Amazon link) or a DAC/amp combo, like the Schiit Fulla / (Amazon link) or FiiO E10K (Amazon link) or AudioQuest - DragonFly (Amazon link).

For headphones/headsets, you have many choices. If you are a gamer, you should check out Sennheiser's gaming headsets. If you don't plan on gaming and just want to listen to music, check out the Sennheiser HD series. They can be found much cheaper on Amazon, eBay, or other various retailers. I personally have the Sennheiser PC363D headset for gaming and unfortunately paid about $240 for them, not even 6 months ago. Right after I bought them, the price on Amazon dropped dramatically, to around $130. I just checked on Amazon and now they're back up to around $219, but if you watch them, they will probably drop again like they did before. Or you can check on eBay. Sennheiser does have cheaper models though (all of these are around $150 or less) like the brand new Sennheiser GSP300 / (Amazon link), Sennheiser GSP350 / (Amazon link), or the Sennheiser GAME ONE / (Amazon link). I have tried a few different brands and Sennheiser is my favorite for performance. I also have the Sennheiser HD 598 SE / (Amazon link) for listening to music and the Sennheiser RS120 II wireless headphones (Sennheiser RS 120 (older model) (Amazon link)) for my TV and got them for my parents too. If you live in a place where you can't have your TV or music too loud, the wireless headphones are very helpful. Overall, I use the Sennheiser PC 363D headset the most and it sounds awesome. If you're a gamer, get a gaming headset, or if you just listen to music, the HD series are great too.

HDD + SSD combo is definitely possible with that budget. Good gaming cpu, good gpu that is even a bit overkill for that resolution - but that means it will be valid for a longer time. I hope the case is the right way of fancy, there are alternatives of course. Good psu, good monitor, enough ram.

This build leaves enough of your budget to chose the keyboard and headset you/he wants. I'd consider https://www.amazon.de/CHERRY-KC1000-corded-Keyboard-ultraflat/dp/B00F35N0VI as keyboard, nothing fancy is needed there, and https://www.amazon.de/HyperX-Stinger-gaming-headset-schwarz/dp/B01LRX2DSA/ as a headset. If you want to save there without losing sound quality: https://www.amazon.de/Mikrofon-Smartphone-Omnidirectional-Kondensator-Mikrofon-Lavalier/dp/B01F84YMZQ + https://www.thomann.de/de/superlux_hd681.htm is a great alternative to a headset.

Absolutely no prob :)

My mom reviews electronics for a living so we end up getting tons of new devices really often and generally need to find cables to match so things are being switched out and added in all the time. To make it more convenient instead of having to go sort through a box or into a drawer and untangle cables I wanted something super easy access to so that if i needed an hdmi , bam, I had one. Same with the others.

For the controllers I used Stick-On Game Controller Hooks 2 Pack. The snes and nes usb controllers are simply hung via a tack.

I got a simple ~$10 corkboard from walmart, used a label maker for the labels and then used CraZy TACKz 36tacks to hang the cables. I wouldn't recommend them though, a standard tack works better honestly ( In theory a hook is great but they loosen and then swing around making it a pain to re-orient them when you're taking things on and off frequently.)

The headphones under the desk is The Anchor Great adhesive, super cheap and can orient it vertically or horizontally which lets you fit two pair ( in my case one for skype/discord+gaming and the other for general use since it has better quality but no mic)

For anyone else curious about the other pieces of the set up:

the desk is Series A:72inch Desk by Bush Business Furinture.

Razer makes some solid products, but I definitely would not recommend a Razer headphone. I personally use a pair of Astro A50's and they are an amazing headset for their price range. They feature 7.1 Surround sound, which is great for a lot of FPS games, are extremely comfortable(don't be fooled by their huge size, you can wear these bad boys for hours without feeling them), and have amazing sound quality for a pair of gaming headsets. Seriously I own a pair of Denon music maniac headsets which cost me almost double the amount of my A50's, and the A50's can hold up to my Denon's when watching TV and movies. These bad boys might seem a little pricey but trust me you are getting more than your bang for your buck with the A50. Here's an amazon link.

http://www.amazon.com/ASTRO-Gaming-Wireless-Headset-Xbox-360/dp/B0091WIOJ2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415752371&sr=1-1&keywords=astro+a50

They also make a headset called the astro A40 which is exactly the same headset but wired, thus making it a little cheaper.

http://www.amazon.com/ASTRO-Gaming-Audio-System-Xbox-360/dp/B004N7HSGU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415752414&sr=1-1&keywords=astro+a40

These are honestly amazing headphones for their price range, and I cannot recommend them enough.

I also figured I would mention that I know you said you prefer a USB headset, but the sound quality on a USB headset won't be as good as say, a digital output or headphone jack. On any good gaming headset, the USB should be reserved specifically for your microphone but not for the headphone in my opinion.

u/aether_tech · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

A closed-back headphone is a headphone that has no vents on the outside of the earcup to allow air in or out of the sound chamber of the headphone. This has a tendency to emphasize bass. Closed-back headphones will also offer noise-isolation (not to be confused with Active Noise Canceling.)

An open-back has opening(s) - a grill, slots, holes, mesh, etc... behind the driver on the outside of the cup that allows air in and out of the sound chamber. Open-back headphones tend to not have the bass power of similar closed-back headphones - but typically are better at treble. Open-back headphones don't offer any passive noise isolation, as they are pretty much 'open' to the air in all directions. Sound will get in, and some small sound will get out.

The other major difference is in soundstage. Most closed-back headphones have very small soundstage, while most open-back headphones have wider sound-stage than most closed-backs, with some exceptions.

In terms of pure comfort, the Cloud II /w its' velour earpads are extremely comfortable (as my opinion), however of the above listed headsets it's overall sound quality is the worst/or tied with the Alpha. All of those have exceptional build quality compared to other gaming headsets I've ever tested (that's an extensive list, including Razer, Logitech, Turtle Beach, Sennheiser, HyperX, Corsair, SteelSeries, and whatever else they sell at Best Buy and Microcenter.) Now, that's not saying the Cloud II has bad sound quality, it's top tier among headsets - but the Sennheiser offerings are technically better, and have somewhat better microphones.

u/nimskido · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Wow! This looks like an excellent build; thanks for going through the hassle and choosing the parts for me.

Couple of questions though:

  • For the monitor, isn't 21.5" quite small? Would this monitor be better even though its ~£15 more expensive?

  • Do you think the headphones are good for use with glasses? Because these Sennheisers hurt like fuck, especially when using them for a couple of hours. I also found this which is £40 cheaper, but I don't know about the quality etc. Surely, if it's more expensive, its better (sometimes lol). Or these.

  • Why do I need a £15 mousepad? What actual difference does it make than that of a cheap £5 mouse pad? Atm, I have the Fellowes Microban mousepad.

  • Is the cpu cooler needed even though the cpu is not over clockable? I've posted on /r/builadpc a few times and many have said that if you aren't overclocking, then there is no point for the cpu cooler since the stock does fine. Also, do you recommend that I buy additional case fans?

  • What's wrong with a laser pointer?

  • Are there any gpus which are better than the r9 280x? But for around £100 more?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions, I just wanna be completely certain before I buy my parts lol.

Not sure how much it is in Euros, but check out these Astro’s A10. I used to have A40’s but got rid of them after I stopped playing COD years and years ago before I bought my PS4. IMO these Astro’s are great value.

HyperX Cloud 2 are a touch more expensive but I’ve heard it’s one of the best entry level headsets. Worth saving a couple extra Euros to get a great headset

Amazon UK link for A10. Every color works with all 3 systems. Although if you have an Xbox you’ll need an adapter that does not come with the Ps4 or Pc version.

and 30% of you don't own one. I understand money can be tough for some folks, but for $9 you can buy a microphone off amazon here. And for five more dollars you could get a headset here. Amazon will ship it to you for free; yes it will take it awhile to get to your house, but better late than never! So for the investment of the game itself you can get the one piece of hardware that is needed to accelerate your play, and make you better. Please use 1 hour of your paycheck to buy this. Ya they may not be great, but they will work.

u/swollenbluebalz · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I'm definitely not an audiophile, I actually rarely ever listen to music but I do spend 4-6hrs a day gaming or watching tv/movies. Before I did much research I fell into the trap of buying a gaming headset and bought the wireless Corsair Void RGB 7.1 surround sound. They're not bad especially for the price ($45 from a coworker) but lately I've been wanting to invest into something that gives me more of a competitive advantage in fps games with a better soundstage.

I bought the Open-Back Virtual 7.1 Sennheiser 373D which I've been using for the past week and have been liking. The open back experience wasn't a huge change for me but it's still a quality headset I believe. With blackfriday sales going on I've also been looking at the HyperX Cloud II's on sale for $65 and the Arctis 7's for $100. I know people say not to use virtual 7.1 but I really do find it helps in locating players who may be above or below you in a building.

Alternatively, I just recently discovered modmic which opens up the possibility for more audiophile headphones since I was against a desktop mic before and was considering trying out Beardynamic DT990 or a nicer pair of open-back Sennheiser like the HD6xx or similar.

u/roastpuff · 2 pointsr/OutreachHPG

I will chime in with another vote for the Sennheiser PC series - their bigger models (3xx series) are full over ear, and are amazing. Very durable - I've had one last me 5-7 years and still working fine, the pads just wore out. I've had two now because I left one at my parents' house when I was moving out and I bought another one to replace it.

They are a bit more expensive, but think of them as a long-term investment. They have some of the best microphones that I have used for PC headsets, the sound is clear, amazing, and allows you to pin-point people walking around you in FPS, the quality is unbeatable and the cord is nice and long.

See link here: Sennheiser PC350

u/InternetProtocol · 2 pointsr/patientgamers

I just picked these up two days ago, and I'm loving them so far, very good sound quality, the bass is great. The mic is good too, very clear and crisp. Cord is long enough to reach my mic/speaker ports behind my PC and gives me enough space to stand up and take a step. The vol control/mic switch is nice, not heavy, although I wish it had a clip so I could pin it to my shirt. The set seems pretty durable, I havent been babying them too much, either. 5/5 so far.

I've owned a few headsets and I will say that right now I'm loving my Astro A40. Sure the sound quality isn't Studio but they're very comfortable and they perform well. I've had 2 pairs of Steelseries Siberia V2 + V3 and 5H v2 andI like these a lot more. Not only for comfort but also for build quality. That's my suggestion.

Good luck with your purchase!

Hello all! So I am in the market for a new headset and after a lot it looks like Sennheiser is the best option. I was hoping for some recommendations on which one to buy. The ones I'm looking at are the Game One, Game Zero (not really sure what the difference is), PC 350SE, and PC 363D. These are not set in stone however and I am open to suggestions.

Budget: I would like to keep it at $200 but am willing to go up to 250 if the improvement justifies it.

Source: I have an Asus G73 SW laptop. I'm not sure exactly what the sound card is but the specs are this:
EAX Advanced HD 5.0
THX TruStudio
I also have the turtle beach DSS2 thing that I can use.

Isolation:Nothing too much. Just want to be able to not hear and not be heard by my brother 10 ft away.

Prefered type: Over the ear

Tonal Balance: Don't really know, overall balanced I guess?

Past Headphones: Currently wearing Turtlebeach X12's. Tried the steelseries elite but after 4 different headsets breaking I gave up on them.

Prefered Music: Mix of everything really, nothing too out there. I usually play games like the total war series and Warthunder. Also I usually listen to history podcasts if that helps.

I am very satisified with these. They are super comfortable, surround sound and the charge lasts 8+ hours. I had them on one day for over 12 hours and forgot they were on. The mic quality over skype apparently is amazing according to my friends. From what I can gather from my stream etc it sounds pretty good.

I just got a refurb set of SteelSeries Arctis 3s on Amazon delivered last week. My pair was $50. I'm loving them so far - I had a pair of the PS gold but after about 6 months of duct taping them together I had to give up.

These ones are great - way more comfortable. I'd say the sound quality in the PS gold was better and I honestly can tell the difference without 7.1 sound, but I have 0 regrets so far.

I would hold off on buying the FK. If the FK1 is too big then wait for the FK2 which should be smaller whenever it comes out.

Do yourself a favor and invest more into your headset. Music is a wonderful thing and you'll be amazed at how often you will rediscover new components to your favorite songs. You really do hear things that you've never quite noticed before. As a headset my highest recommendation goes to Audio Technica's ATH-ADG1. If $100 is your maximum, I would go for either of these:

Westone UM Pro10
Shure SE215-K
*Creative Aurvana Live

The last being my last resort for you. Good luck.

Guest or Regular: I don't really care, but since I'm on quite frequently I'd have to say regular.

User Name/Other Names: U WOT M8 is fine, but I don't mind being called by my real name.

Age Group: 0-15

Reasons for Wanting to Join: My brother committed suicide after not being able to join a podcast group, and my mother soon followed suit. Her last words to me were "please U WOT M8, honor our family and join a podcast group."

But seriously, I think it would be fun and I would like to discuss things with people for real instead of starting Nisekoi or F/SN flame wars like I usually do.

Past Discussion/Analysis/Review: I have two public reviews up on MAL, and at one time I had 5. However, I felt that they weren't really up to my standards so I took them down.

The headset I'm using if anyone's wondering

I use the Turtle Beach PX22. Super comfortable when wearing for a long time, great sound, great mic quality, and works with my PS3 as well. Also, pretty damn cheap as far as Turtle Beach goes.

I have for a long time loved the Logitech G930.

For a LAN I'd go with G430 for $65. Since you probably wont be concerned with it being wireless and having the extra buttons/features of the G930.

It's very comfortable and sturdy, 7.1 Surround, great quality Mic. and I think they look pretty neat too.

u/Rarity34 · 1 pointr/headphones

Hi there. I’m looking for some headphones that would be great for gaming and music. My budget is anything under £280, although I can stretch the budget. I’m located in the UK.

I currently use an Astro A40 headset, however after general wear and tear the cable has started coming loose at the ends which causes the audio to cut out at irregular intervals. I have these paired with an Asus Xonar DX soundcard for PC and I also have an Astro Mixamp for gaming on consoles.

I’d like some headphones with natural sound and good balance as I’m not too keen on the current trend of Bass heavy products. Over-Ear design is an absolute must for me and I’m not too worried on how it looks, so long as it’s comfortable and not too bulky. I have no preference on isolation.

I’ve been through various crappy Turtle Beach sets, Tritton 5.1 Pro and now my current headset which does the job well but I kind of want to take a step up into audiophile grade hardware. I’ve been looking mainly at Sennheiser and Audio-Technika and some products that look interesting are the HD 650, the HD 598 and the ATH-AG1.

If it’s of any help my preferred music is Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock, Synthpop and I also have a big soft spot for Symphonic Metal. As for gaming, I’m really not too worried about surround sound capabilities because I can use the mixamp to simulate 5.1/7.1 surround sound on consoles, and on the PC, I enable Dolby Headphone.

Any suggestions will be very helpful and I thank you for your help in advance.

u/siegewolf · 1 pointr/MLPLounge

For 7.1 headphones the bass is pretty deep. For gaming? Footsteps are super amped. It makes it so much easier to hear people in CS GO. I'd put it on a 8/10 sound wise. Obviously you could get better sound for cheaper if you didn't want the wireless. Personally, there's nothing quite like continuing a conversation on skype while you make yourself a snack. I loathe the new color scheme and tramp stamp corsair wants to do. It sucks. Here's mine. and here's it with the new "gamer" logo. I should also mention the battery life is about 8ish hours. They can be on while charging if need be.

Overall, if you're looking for a decent pair of headphones to game and do some other stuff with....I'd recommend them. They are solidly built. Plus, they come with a great warranty through Corsair and Amazon has a fantastic return policy if you don't end up liking them. They lasted much longer than my Steelseries. I'll tell you that.

u/blake231 · 1 pointr/Gaming_Gear

Awesome! Thank you, I'll check these out

I just realized that audio technica makes gaming headsets

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H95X98O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1448935390&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=audiotechnica+gaming&dpPl=1&dpID=41AEBNWwHCL&ref=plSrch#mobile-twister_style_name_1448935409456

Would some of the headsets you sent have better audio quality? I'm not sure what really makes some of these headsets for gaming. I'm under the notion that headphones made for good audio quality would sound better than those made just for "gaming". But if I can achieve some of the same audio quality that I liked out of the m50x's for there gaming headset line is be inclined to try them out.

u/dunger · 1 pointr/xboxone

For $40 they are good. They will sound fine and have mic mute and volume control on the cable. Pretty nice feature if you have a 3.5mm jack controller and don't have a headset adapter. I had the z11 and this is basically the newer model. I was very happy with my z11 until I eventually got the XO Seven PRO. Amazon has the z11 for $16 if you are interested in that.

I bought a Corsair Vengeance 2000, and then a Vengeance 2100 after the band-earcup joint broke on my 2000s. I RMA'ed the first 2000 and ended up with two 2100s. I use one at work and one at home. I really enjoy the wireless freedom even if I have to plug it in sometimes. The mic is solid, the audio is great (music or games, crisp and solid bass), comfortable for long periods of wear, and it's pretty reasonably priced when it's on sale. The nonrefurbished one goes on sale for $100. I recommend them, 5/5 in my personal experience.

Specs are 40 ft range, 10hrs battery life. Here's two reviews from trusted sources, I linked to the final pages (conclusions) for easier reading, but jump through if you're curious.

Wifi extenders (also called repeaters, which you'll see in some places), are made to solve the problem of your router's signal strength not going far enough. So say that you router is in a room that's on the front side of your house. You want to be able to hang out in your backyard (on the other/back side of your house) and surf the web on your laptop/tablet/phone, but your wifi signal doesn't go that far. To fix that, you'd get a repeater and plug it in to a normal wall power outlet somewhere between your router and your backyard (no other wires needed), where you want the signal to extend to. You don't need an ethernet cable to use an extender. Here's an example of an extender. I can go more into extenders and how they work if you want more info.

However, your problem might not be that your wifi signal isn't strong enough (which can be solved by just moving as close to the router as possible, if you don't want to get an extender). It might be your internet speed itself. Your internet speed's divided into download and upload speeds. From what I've read, 10Mb/s of upload speed or more is required to stream, so make sure you've got that (you can check by calling and asking your ISP or by doing a speedtest at speedtest.net or something like that, just note that websites like that are not always reliable/accurate). If you're below 10Mb/s, you might need to upgrade your internet plan.

If you're streaming and gaming online at the same time, I highly recommend that you ditch wireless and use an ethernet cable connecting your computer and your router. That way, you get the most reliable and fastest possible internet connection.

As for the headphones, I'd say to go with the Razer pair (as long as they're not in bad condition or anything), as your Sades cans are up on amazon right now for $15 for a new pair, while the Razer pair is up for $50.

TLDR; You might not need a wireless extender (I explained the type of situation where you would need one); check with your ISP about your upload speeds and make sure they're not below 10 Mb/s. Try to use wired ethernet instead of wifi if you can. Go with the Razer cans.

Wait, not so fast! Here's a good headset

I have it, sure it's a 'gaming' headset but the quality is still pretty good and it has a wireless USB adapter. It gets charged with Micro USB and comes with a really long cord. Also, you'd be suprised how much surround sound helps in fps games. It's like borderline wall hacks :/.

PC350s are good

I personally own the PC360 but it looks like I can't find one reasonably priced anymore. They are great open ear headphones, the PC350s are closed ear but sound great too.

u/Slizedew · 1 pointr/xboxone

I got these the other day and they seem to work pretty well. The cushion is like a cloth-foam, not the most comfortable but they sound terrific. Pretty good set for the price.

u/Poncho7285 · 1 pointr/xboxone

The Turtle Beach Z11 is currently $16 on Amazon.

I just ordered mine the other day, and it seems to work alright so far, for 16 bucks.

Another great budget headset is the [Polk Melee.] (http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Melee-Headphone-Blue-Xbox/dp/B00E1L785E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1450266773&sr=8-2&keywords=polk+melee)

The melee is currently $34 in blue, if color doesn't matter to you. (other colors are more expensive, for whatever reason.)

The Z11's are open backed, while the Polk headphones are closed backed, if that is important to you.

Let me know if you'd like more information on either of those headsets, and good luck choosing!

I've been using a Logitech G430 for nearly 2 years now. Pretty cheat headset, nice sounding with virtual 7.1 and pretty decent microphone, and the build quality is pretty nice (I have a big head and so far it didn't broke unlike 2 tritton headsets for more than double the price).

The headset by default had a pretty shitty sound quality, but after you turn on the Dolby 7.1 in the headset's driver, the difference is like Heaven and Hell.

My friend uses a Steelseries Siberia v2 and he's pleased with his too, though his headset's stripe got ripped but still in use.

For gaming, You don't need to spend a lot for a headset. If you're an audiophile you might consider going for higher price perephials, but for hearing things and talking to others you'll find decent ones for 50-80 pounds.

u/olliewright97 · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

I used to have a Logitech G430 headset (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Surround-Sound-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00CJ5FPUE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1425656731&sr=8-4&keywords=gaming+headset) which is at your budget, that was very comfortable and lasted a long time, in fact it still works, I only upgraded to the G930 recently because I wanted a wireless headset, but if your budget sits at £50 the G430 is a great headset for the price, if you can stretch to ~£90, the G930 is just slightly more practical with the wireless capabilities. Both great choices in my opinion.

u/D0PETHR0NE · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

yeah I have to agree with u/kfm946 here.

When it comes to gaming headphones or headsets there's 3 different scenarios:

  1. You spend big and go with the Audeze mobius, that has all the bells and whistles.
  2. You pick any headphone you like and attach a ModMic or you use a usb desk mic.
  3. You pick a headphone with a 3.5 mm jack in, in combination with a V-Moda boompro.

A list of decent headphones with a 3.5 mm jack (that is not proprietarily recessed or anything):

u/gutlessVADER · 1 pointr/headphones
  • Budget - Under $100 preferably, but if you find something that fits my requirements under $200 please post it.<br />
  • Source - Desktop (no sound card) and Macbook Pro
  • Requirements for Isolation - none
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized
  • Preferred tonal balance - balanced or bass-heavy
  • Past headphones - I've been using a Plantronics Gamecom 780 for three years, and they have been fantastic. I can hear where people are coming from in games and all the music/shows/movies I listen to sound incredible.
  • Preferred Music - Nightcore. That's all I've been listening to lately, the fast tempo keeps me pumped while studying.
    Example

The two biggest things I want are for it to be wireless and have a mic. I currently have my sights set on Corsair's H2100; all the reviews I've read say it is incredible for Battlefield 4 (which I have over 400 hours in) and reasonably comfortable. Their software appears to allow a high level of customization as well. Many customers have had problems with it, though, so if I purchase it I will go through Newegg since I have had a 100% success rate at returning defective products with a full refund and free shipping.

I've been using Corsair H2100 for the past few years. Great build quality, sound (7.1!) and comfort. The ear pads material is REALLY good. They have in-built mic and a volume adjustment. Battery lasts about 10 hours (you can use the headset while it's charging), and the signal range is also very good.

EDIT: They're around $100 on Amazon

I think I've narrowed it down to two contenders really.

u/Philliphobia · 1 pointr/buildapc

the kingston hyperx cloud is a pretty new headset but was made with Qpad, and is very well reviewed. the Sennheiser PC 250 also just fits under that budget, and is a solid headset to use for commentary etc. (the PC 360 is more popular, but also a lot more expensive).

I'm obviously abliged to say that if I were you I would get an antlion modmic and something like an ATH m50

Steelseries Arctis 5 works really well for me. The cable comes with a USB extension and a regular headphone jack extension that you can easily switch between. They're really comfortable and sound good. The mic is also good at only picking up your voice. My husband and I game in the same room with these headsets, about 6 feet away from each other, and we almost never trigger each other's mics.

I have the Corsair HS50 wired and it's pretty nice, especially for $50. The HS60 has good reviews as well, though it's essentially the same as the HS50 with a USB adapter that allows for better surround on PC. If you don't plan on using them on PC, I'd stick with the HS50.

u/verrukt · 1 pointr/buildapc

Here is a really good headset with more info here. They have an updated "G4ME" series headset that uses the exact same hardware with a new, shiny casing at like $70 more if you're into looks. Again, they both are the same headset except the G4ME series looks nicer.

I think that headset sounds best with an amp too so I'd get one for it.

Anyone recommend some good headphones/headset? I was thinking of getting this headset, or getting these headphones and a Zalman clip on mic. My budget isn't huge, but still want good quality mic and audio. Thanks.

u/Eklypze · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Yeah the A50s receive sound wirelessly from the pc. I believe you can do PS chat wirelessly but you have to plug into the controller for the xbox. The problem I have with them is that I can't adjust my game and pc sounds through my headset, so I have to adjust my sound on the systems. Unlike my old logitech F540s.

I don't have speakers set up. I'd imagine I'd had to change the source but I'll grab another pair of head phones right now and test it out. So what happens is what ever I plug in my front audio port takes priority.

So, I wouldn't recommend the A50s if you want to have 7.1 surround coming from the PC through the headset without changing audio sources. Since, I currently would have to my change computer source from my usb connection to auxiliary connection to hear my xbox and computer at the same time. So I have 5.1 upscaled to 7.1 in from my system (optical doesn't support 7.1) and stereo coming from my computer.

This review thread could help you find your match. I also find they have a little too much bass for my tastes. 9/10 on comfort. http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-update-10-15-2014-beyerdynamic-t51i-added

also if you still wanna buy A50s I'd buy them refurbished through Amazon. Since the new model isn't actually any different hardware wise. Amazon gives 30 day money back guarantee and still offers the 1 year warranty since Astro is still the seller. http://www.amazon.com/ASTRO-Gaming-Refurbished-A50-Wireless-Headset/dp/B00EIM3BV6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1413710761&amp;amp;sr=8-3&amp;amp;keywords=astro+a50s

Clear voice chat (me, and all friends with them sound great)

Comfy (although this is preference)

CONS

Price ($100-150)

Have to charge them (I charge nightly, although once in a while miss a charge and still OK the next day)

Only stereo sound (however you can still hear stuff "behind" you regardless, if that makes sense)

Takes up a USB port w/ wireless receiver

USB dongle is somewhat bright and blinks while not connected, can be distracting if you plug into a font port and your Xbox is in view

Okay then here is my recommendation from what I was looking around at. I currently have an Arctis 7 wireless headset which I would recommend.. Super comfortable and includes a lot of stuff. You should be able to connect the wireless headphone transmitter to your computer. and then connect the aux cable into your xbox controller. This will enable you to have the game and audio chat settings on your computer. If you go in and disable the game audio settings you can have discord audio in the audio slider and the xbox on the game slider and both should be able to use the mic. If not I would recommend getting a either a Blue snowball or Blue Yeti mic as they aren't crazy expensive and they work amazing for stream quality. Here is a link to the headset.. I’ve been using the LucidSound LS35X for about 2 months now. I really like them! The sound quality is good and they actually get pretty loud. My only real complaint is being able to get the sweet spot on the overall sound and the chat/game mixer can be a bit finicky.

Muting is just hitting the right earcup button and the mic even has a red light so you know you’re muted, and you can mute game and chat audio quick by hitting the left earcup button. Sound quality is solid on the mic, and have never heard any complaints from my gaming buddies. Any other questions just let me know.

Sennheiser GSP 300 (301 &amp; 302 are the same thing, just color differences). https://www.amazon.ca/Sennheiser-GSP-300-Gaming-Headset/dp/B074ZZL3GT?th=1 - The blue one is $79.95 on amazon.com. Best bang for your buck headset on the market. The other best value one would be the Coolermaster MH751.

&amp;#x200B;

You don't need virtual surround sound; it's pretty gimmicky. Wireless capability is convenient, but you sacrifice sound and mic quality. Very few headsets do wireless sound and mic well, and the ones that do are very expensive.

&amp;#x200B;

With that being said, if you really want both of those features, check out Hardware Canucks wireless headset roundup from last year on Youtube and see for yourself.

These are absolutely amazing for the price. Crystal clear mic quality and I haven't had any problems at all with the audio, it sounds fantastic. If you're looking for a budget mic, just get one of these, me and my friend have had the same pair for about 2 years now, they're sturdy af.

Edit: I had a pair of logitech g230's [40 dollar headset] before I got these, and I think they're absolutely shit compared to these.

I pretty much just decided that I want to get better sound quality out of my headphones after listening to a friend's headphones and I don't really know anything about headphones or the current market, so I could use some help!

u/skibbles9 · 1 pointr/Rainbow6

How much are you looking to spend? Really anything will be a nice upgrade from standalone speakers. I'm using a cheap Turtle Beach PX22 headset for the PC. 3 years old still works no problem. I'm able to pinpoint locations easily, even if they are above or below me! A massive advantage.
I'm sure someone will hop on and bash Turtle Beach and that's fine, I have had crappy sets from them as well. However... I have Nothing but good things to say about the PX22. :) I hope this helps!
*EDIT:

u/Garenator · 2 pointsr/buildapc

But what if you want a mic as well? AFAIK, most non gaming headphones with mics cost a lot more than gaming headphones with mics.

this is one of amazons #1 selling headphones, 4 star rating with over 1k reviews, and they're not even $20.

if you get seinnheiser you're spending a lot more, even for earbuds.

Now whether or not the price differences are worth it one way or the other I'm not trying to say, just that if you want a gaming headset with a mic, it seems like you are better off going with the "gaming" brand rather than more name brands.

Great sound for the price. Open back without mic. Very comfortable as well.

u/DaveFalcon73 · 1 pointr/xboxone

If you don't mind putting some money down then I found the mic on these are truly awesome and the game sound quality is also. Failing that a regular pair of Turtle Beach headphones with mic will be fine on a budget.

I have one of my Xbox One's setup with Creative Labs speakers so do something similar to you, have the speakers on loud but have the headphones on with chat only. One thing to mention is if you're going down this route get open back headphones like the ATH-ADG1's most Turtle Beach and gaming headsets are closed back which means you won't hear the gaming audio from your speaker stereo system as well.

u/DriveByStoning · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have a big head and they fit nice. My ears are fine after marathon sessions.

Name a single headset you can buy new today that "sounds like ass."

I'll give one example. The Corsair HS50 is $50 right now and in this video for example he sounds pretty good.

You'd have to buy a $10 Chinese knockoff and even then it probably wouldn't be that terrible.

u/RAGEMOOSE · 1 pointr/xboxone

its a "gaming headset" not by sennheiser or audio technica, so that means its complete garbage lol

for $150 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Special-Edition-Performance-Headset/dp/B008O510Y8/ is by far the best thing you can probably buy. (unless you buy headphones and mic separate)

will require a sound card if you do not have the AC1150 audio codec on your motherboard built in audio (as the AC1150 is the only good integrated audio available)

without either of them, the mic and headphones will likely not sound very good.

u/yeah_it_was_personal · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

So, my strongest recommendation is going to be to get a regular headset and run either the integrated mic if you're on a laptop, or use a cheapo USB mic. For whatever reason, headsets are more expensive for decent quality fidelity.

&amp;#x200B;

I'm going to circlejerk Sennheiser: $50, $70, also 70$

&amp;#x200B;

And AudioTechnica: 50$

&amp;#x200B;

Especially if you're planning on streaming, you can get a great non-mic OEs for midrange price, and splurge on the mic.

u/The_Chicken_Biscuit · 1 pointr/xboxone

If you're using solely for gaming, get the A50s. They are far and beyond above the rest. If you want it for gaming and to take around listening to music away from home, get the QC35s.

Here are the A50s I have for only $119.

Since I got mine they've made an updated version specifically for he Xbox One which run around $299. But the 1st version works perfectly. The ones I have can't connect via bluetooth to my phone to listen to music though. Not sure if they included that in the newest version.

The QC35s are great for music listening or watching movies on a laptop/tablet.

Whatever you do, just don't get the 800x.

The steelseries arctis headsets are really good. I got my arctis 7 for $140 here in Sweden where everything is stupidly overpriced. But it was a pretty good deal since they are $170 in most stores here. You said you were looking for $50-$100 so the arctis 3 and 5 are worth to check out.

I'm going to get either the AD900x, HD598, or the Q701 for gaming and music (Leaning towards the Q701s). With whatever i choose i will also probably be getting the Fiio E10K. Now the main part i'm asking about is that i'm coming from a Turtle Beach PX22 headset. The inline amplifier on this i LOVE. As you can see in these pictures, the amplifier features bass and treble adjustment, game volume and chat volume are separate and independently adjustable, I can hear my own voice as i speak, and i can play music into the auxiliary port in it. So i'm wondering if it would be wise to setup all this in a way to integrate both this amp and the E10K. My current idea is to plug the E10K into the computer, then the PX22 amp into the E10K and obviously the headphones into the PX22 amp. So will this setup work? if not, is there any amp that offers a lot of the features the PX22 amp does? Thank you

I use these: Corsair HS60

&amp;#x200B;

I've had them since June of last year and they're still in perfect condition after almost every weekend use. You can detach the mic so it can look like regular headsets and the mic is crystal clear according to my friends. Been using it on the PS4, Switch, Vita, 3ds and my phone. You can adjust the volume on the headset itself and mute the mic if you need to with a touch of a button. There is a wireless version that claims to have 7.1 surround but that's only on PC with the use of a dongle. This is the first headset I've used that didn't bother my big head playing hours upon hours.

u/Lord_Bro · 1 pointr/racingbattlestations

I mean I've got the 5.1 going via the home theater setup, but when I'm racing against others usually I'm on my Corsair H2100s anyway. I'd love to mount speakers to it and such, but I want to keep it light enough to drag into the corner when I'm not using it.

Now graphics on the other hand.... A guy at work has offered to lend me his Rift DK2 for a bit now that I've completed my rig, so I'll be excited to see how it compares to triple screens.

I recommend Logitech g930 or Corsair because they seem to be the most reliable and best value right now. You can get Creative wireless headsets for around the same price but they have much worse sound quality. Its done when the audio is recorded. What a headphone's soundstage refers to is the ability of said headphones to 'reproduce' the sound in the correct recorded positioning. You don't need any gimmic programs like dolby headphone or virtual surround sound. These programs are for headphones that suck at positional audio and have very little soundstage.

The AD700X/900X and its closed-back brother are very popular with gamers because of its accurate positional audio..so much so that Audio Technica has made a premium gamer headset based on the platform. Its called the ADG1. Its about double the price though, but it comes with a usb DAC and the microphone is pretty damn good for a 'gaming' oriented headset.

A added bonus with this headset you get a USB portal soundcard so any other headsets you get in the future will work with the PS4.

u/dullawolf · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

i dont have experience with them, but i hear a majority of people like them. check the feedback on amazon. 4/5 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Lossless-Wireless-Headset-Headphone/dp/B07FZVXS8H

u/HamSambo · 0 pointsr/xboxone

I use the Logitech G430.

Initially uncomfortable, they eventually mould to the shape of your head and become very comfortable. Great surround sound and also usable on PC via USB. Only caveat is the Y Splitter required for them to work via your 3.5mm controller.

u/xBassDropYETIx · 1 pointr/xboxone

True. The 420x+ are much more affordable. I say probably after about 3-4 hours. If you wear glasses though forget about it. There is an officially xbox licensed true wireless headset coming out during the Holidays this year. https://www.amazon.com/LucidSound-Officially-Licensed-Wireless-Surround-Headset/dp/B071JSYH33

well These would be a brilliant option. they are ADG1's without the mic for $140 less

u/Adjective_Pants · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

My Hyper X Cloud II just broke and I'm looking into getting a new headset. Are the Astro A40s good? I did research online and I saw some people recommend getting the mix amp as well. However, this makes them much more expensive, is there a real advantage to having it?

u/arkhira · 10 pointsr/Overwatch

I have been using the Logitech G430 for about 8 months now for PC gaming and love them.

Some other possible headsets:

I like the Turtle Beach PX22. It's universal and comes with an amp extension. It can use a regular audio jack or usd depending on what you need. It's 20 dollars off on amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E5UHSYW?pc_redir=1412690684&amp;amp;robot_redir=1 I have it and haven't had any complaints. It's obviously not the best on the market but it's price to quality ratio is very good in my opinion.

u/whostolemytv · 5 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

The 77 original price seems grossly inflated. Here is the non GT model for 29

https://www.amazon.ca/Andget-SA-708-Headset-Headphones-Microphone/dp/B00DU2CHE2

The GT model is available in the states for 22 USD or 18 USD at walmart.

GSP 600 is noise isolating, not cancelling. Essentially like cupping your ears with your hands. It can be upgraded with an amp/dac but TBH it's not going to make noticeable difference. These headphones aren't meant for their musicality.

The GSP 550 is self sufficient yes.

If you're wanting sound quality but the use of a mic then others suggest going with a mod mic type set up which attached onto the headphone.

I personally don't use that setup. I just have a mic on my desk and use my HD800S. It's all preference.

For better sound quality higher end gaming headsets aren't going to benefit you.

For me I have these because I realize it's not worth the money to me to go much higher.

u/Darkhowler · 1 pointr/LetsPlayCritiques

With pleasure. Ive had this headset since 2014. Its served me well but now that im doing lets play its definetly time to upgrade. At least the mic.

if you can go up to $60 this is the the best headset i have ever used for gaming. (with the exception of the more expensive version of it that sound the same, they just have more features).

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Surround-Gaming-Headset-Technology/dp/B00CQ35C1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1419804978&amp;amp;sr=1-1&amp;amp;keywords=g430

If you can't then this is one of the higher rating budget headsets on amazon. But at that pricepoint I cannot promise anything http://www.amazon.com/SA-708-Stereo-Headphone-Headset-Microphone/dp/B00DU2CHE2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1419804911&amp;amp;sr=1-1&amp;amp;keywords=headset

u/RegularWhiteShark · 1 pointr/gaming

I can only go by Amazon reviews, but the comfort doesn't seem that great on them.

This headset is similar in price to the Arctic 3 and seems much better.

I would either go for these or the Arctis 3, to be honest. But I'm no expert, so feel free to ignore me!

You sold me on sennheiser's my friend and I got a seperate sound card, since i have an Nvidia green themed rig, i got the builder version of the card without the red housing so i can solder on my own greens LED's

Thanks for this mate. I'll give it a look in!

Personally, I almost never listen to music on headphones - much prefer a decent set of speakers for that (that being said, I certainly need to upgrade my speakers, they are insanely old now).

EDIT: What specific headset do you use? I have Googled 'HyperX Cloud Stinger' and found a range of prices. Is it this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LRX2DSA/

u/Kennyjive · 1 pointr/xboxone

Sennheiser GSP302. $82. Check anywhere and you'll find these to be the best budget headset available.

It's the same model as the GSP 300/301/303. The number designates the different color.

u/Floofyboy · 1 pointr/Gaming_Headsets

Not sure for other countries, but in Canada GSP300 already dropped:

Then it´s the same that I have. I had an extremely hard time to hear footsteps with this headset.
Invested about 120 € and got myself said Hyperx Cloud Flight and now I can hear a thousand times better than before. The difference is literally night and day. And no, I´m not getting paid to advertise Hyperx xD

u/HighQualityH2O_22 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I'm listening to music right now on my 752's. Love them. This is a damn great price, lowest I have seen. Both Amazon as u/Illien mentioned, and Best Buy have them for $80.

Thanks, I do live in the UK. However, I hate to be like this - but my budget is £40. Sorry.

I'm looking at HyperX Cloud Stingers - they're in my price range, should I get them? They're the same price as the Cloud II, however they're currently on discount.

Atmos according to features. The intuitive controls are a huge plus. The set I have now has a nice adjustable microphone with a light to let me know when I'm muted without fumbling through menus

Just ordered these beauties. Had the XO Threes for a long time before I realized that the manual of the headset literally says don't use when using plugged in controller because youll get electronic feedback.

I remember being 15 and thinking Turtle Beach was the shit, now looking over headset options and reviews, theyre just a big name.

Logitech G430. Bei mir ist zwar schon ein Bügel gebrochen, aber es ist mir in den 2 Jahren uach dutzende mal hingefallen. Trotzdem super Teil. Ist sogar gerade im Angebot. Mit 50€ wirst du da gut bedient.

HyperX Cloud II

  • Built in 7.1 Surround Sound that can easily be toggled on/off
  • 3 meter braided wire
  • Comfy as FUCK
  • Detachable microphone
  • Very reasonable price at around £70-£75

Probably the best headset I've ever used, and I've owned many headsets over my 14 years of gaming.

If you're looking for a cheaper headset with similar advantages, check out the Logitech G430 Gaming Headset, a lot cheaper at just £30, with a lot of similarities to the HyperX Cloud II.
u/lethaltyrant · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I use the turtle beach PX22 on PC. It works great with discord. It has a bass and treble along with a game volume and chat volume. If you set it right in windows it works great. Also to me has good sound quality. It is also in your 80 dollar budget. I had one that got broken went and bought another. It is a playstation headset but works great on PC. https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Universal-Amplified-Playstation-3/dp/B00E5UHSYW

I think there is a newer model now PX24.

I am not sure if turtle beach is hated or not but I think they work fine and that's all that matters to me.

This is the best I could do without touching the video card which is the most important component for gaming. You probably need a headset as well I guess. If you really do, go with this build which will be exactly within budget:

Depending on which AAA games you play the video card might be enough for a good gaming experience. For some it might struggle with keeping 60+fps. Also here is a link to mouse/keyboard and here to the headset, for some reason their weren't listed on pcpartpicker.
