REPORT THIS GUY! As a 19 year old man I can say "Abdul" is a damn creeper, and NOTHING he did could be considered normal or good in the slightest.

Next time someone makes you feel uncomfortable like that, ask them to leave IMMEDIATELY. The safety of you and your wife is not worth a few bucks, people over paper ya know.

Also as other people have said you might want to invest in better security. It's a trust but verify sorta situation, you'd like to think all of your guest are going to be super cool French, hitchhiker, philanthropists, but lets face it, some are going to be like Abdul. You need to prepare yourself for them.

1). Don't ever give them keys, do not give any random asshat with an AirBnB account permanent access to you home. Use something like the reset able combination locks others have suggested.

Also reinforce the hinges and strike plate, it's the most common way exterior doors fail against a home invader. A window reinforcement film is also super useful, it helps prevent windows from shattering when hit with bricks and the like.

2). Get a security system, a fucking loud one. Motion controlled flood lights, sirens, all that shit; messed up fuckers don't like having the whole neighborhoods attention focused on them. Something like this, doesn't require a contract and seems pretty good (Am not endorsing, just found it via Google).

3). If you like dogs, get one. You'll have an amazing furry friend and certain breeds can be intimidating, yet lovable, security puppers

4). Learn how to say no, it's a valuable skill that can be a literal life saver. Maybe go on a ride along with your local PD, see how they deal with belligerent drunks and the like. or you could ask the advice of someone you know is good at resolving this sort of stuff. These aren't the only ideas of course, find what works best for you.

5). A shotgun can be your best friend if perverts decide to take things to the next level. Invest in something like this, a security length barrel, and some self defense ammo (or anything that says "20 gauge, Buckshot, Low recoil, Home Defense," etc. on it).

Also learn how to use it and store it safely, Google around to find local ranges that host intro to shooting/intro to shotgun type classes. You don't have to be Rambo, but getting the basics down pat can turn you into a competent shot-gunner.

Plus trap, skeet, sporting clays, etc. are super fun!

(Tasers, stun guns, collapsible baton and pepper spray are also good alternatives if you don't want to use lethal force)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully this give you some idea of how to protect you and yours, stay safe!

Alarm systems and Ring doorbells are reactive rather than proactive. They help the bad guys get caught after they break into your home and steal your stuff or injure/kill the occupants.

You want to be proactive. My 2 main focuses would be the following:

  1. Make it difficult for someone to get into your apartment.
  2. Give yourself the means to protect yourself if your apartment is breached.

Things to think about for Main focus 1 (security):

As far as making it difficult for someone to get into your apartment, having the appearance of a hard target will help. Beware of dog signs are supposedly effective for homes, I don't know how they work for apartments. May be worth researching.

How secure is your door? How deep do the screws go into the door frame on the bolt? If it is less than 3 inches replace them. Consider a door jam, I don't have one of these yet but have heard great things about their effectiveness of resisting doors getting kicked in. Obviously won't help while you are out but is great for when you are inside.

How secure/reachable are your windows? Is it feasible that someone could get to your window with or without a ladder? Secure your windows as best you can. I am a fan of security screens for windows but on an apartment I doubt you are going to want to install those.

Do you have a balcony? How secure is the door/slider? If it is a door consider a door jam like for the front door. If it is a slider then make sure you have a security bar. Glass is a weakpoint, I like security screens as for windows, but if not an option security film may be.

Things to think about for Main focus 2 (defense):

I saw in a previous comment you are not comfortable having a gun in your house. I would suggest you get comfortable with it. A firearm is the most effect tool to use in self defense because it is a distance tool. It can be used to stop a threat before they get within range to do lethal damage. Also it is not uncommon for armed robbers to be equipped with stolen firearms themselves and you will be left at their mercy praying they are just thieves and not murderers. If you do decide to get a firearm to protect yourself and your home get some training. A good instructor will make you comfortable with firearm safety and help you develop good practices early to be safe and effective with a firearm. I realize you might not want to consider this option and it is your right to choose whatever you feel comfortable with but I wanted to mention it anyway.

Non-firearm defense tools you could utilize is flashlights, pepper spray, blunt objects (as lethal as firearms but not as effective for self defense), sharp objects (also as lethal and less effective), stun guns (can be effective against weak willed opponents).

Personally I always have a 800 Lumen flashlight, knife, and pepper spray on my body. In my home and car I also keep a 1000 lumen flashlight and large fixed blade knives. Although I would hope to never be in such a fight for my life that I have exhausted all my firearms and have to use them.

I would highly recommend you get a bright flashlight you are comfortable carrying with you and pepper spray. A bright flashlight can be blinding in low light, if you have to deploy it shine it in their eyes and use that opportunity to see what is in their hands. Pepper spray is not very effective against determined attackers but may be enough to buy you some time to escape.

You may also want to look into a stun gun to use when walking the dog to deploy if the pepper spray fails to stop your assailant. I have two flashlight/stungun combos for walking the dog.

You only get one life, when it comes time to act or die; act with everything you got and the tools you have available to yourself at that time. Hopefully you will never have to deploy those defense tools but keeping them handy could be the difference between a long life and one that ends that afternoon.

    Good luck and stay safe

Most people will probably recommend an AR-15, a 12-guage pump shotgun, or a 9mm pistol; but I've actually been moving away from those types of guns after I started to learn more about how much permanent damage firearms do to your hearing. If you ever shoot an AR-15 or a shotgun indoors without hearing protection, you'll probably rupture your eardrums and hear an annoying ringing sound for the rest of your life. So, I'd prefer to avoid that if possible. That's why I recently bought a 9mm carbine (a 9mm rifle with a shoulder stock and a 16-inch barrel) as my new primary home defense weapon. Yeah, you lose out on some terminal performance (killing power), but 30-ish rounds of 147-grain 9mm Federal HST should be enough to deal with 99.999% of home invaders.

An AR-15 chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO will create about 167 decibels (anything above 140 decibels will permanently damage your hearing); a rifle chambered in .308 Winchester will create 170+ decibels; a 9mm pistol with a 4-inch barrel will create about 160 decibels; a 9mm carbine with a 10-inch barrel will create about 156 decibels; and a 9mm carbine with a 16-inch barrel will create about 152 decibels. I haven't been able to find reliable information about how many decibels a 12-gauge shotgun creates, but it's probably in the 160s.

152 decibels still isn't hearing safe; but the difference between 152 decibels and 167 decibels is huge since sound doubles in strength every 3 decibels. 152 decibels will still hurt your ears and cause permanent hearing damage if you hear it repeatedly; but it won't completely destroy your ears like a 5.56x45mm rifle or a 12-gauge shotgun will.

And the reason why I went with a 9mm carbine over a 9mm pistol is because carbines are much easier to aim, you get much quicker followup shots, you get a little bit more bullet velocity (and thus foot-pounds of energy and terminal performance), and there's still a large sound difference between 152 decibels and 160 decibels.

As to which specific 9mm carbines I recommend, I'll give you 3 different options to choose from.

The cheapest option: The Kel-Tec Sub-2000 Gen 2 ($500-ish but hard to find). I'm personally not a fan of Kel-Tec quality standards and aesthetics, but the Kel-Tec Sub-2000 is one of the few firearms that Kel-Tec makes that the vast majority of people in the gun community agrees is a good gun. I'd get the version that accepts Glock magazines and stick a 33-round Glock magazine in it. Glock magazines are widely regarded as being the best magazines in the world; and the 33 rounders that they make are widely regarded as being reliable.

The mid-tier option: The CMMG Mk9LE ($900-ish). From the research that I did on AR-15s chambered in 9mm, the ones made by CMMG are highly regarded as being reliable. I recommend using the 32-round Uzi magazines from IWI. Based on your criteria, this would be my top recommendation for you.

The high-tier option: The KRISS Vector GEN II CRB ($1,300-ish). This is the option that I personally went with. I chose it because it's reliable and because it looks amazing.

I also want to go out of my way to rule out a popular option: The CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine. The "pistol" version is wildly popular; but I've personally seen way too many horror stories about all-polymer magazines stretching and breaking their own feed lips after being stored loaded for a long period of time (which is what you'd be doing with a home defense weapon). So, until CZ upgrades their polymer magazines with steel-reinforced feed lips (like Glock does), I'd personally stay away from their products that use those types of magazines.

And I know that you said that you didn't want to add accessories, but a light is a mandatory accessory on a home defense firearm in my opinion (so that you can positively identify your target before you shoot and therefore hopefully avoid accidentally shooting a loved one). The Streamlight ProTac 2 and the INFORCE WMLx would be my top 2 recommended lights for long guns.

As to which bullets that I'd recommend, I already mentioned them: 147-grain 9mm Federal HST (standard pressure). The 124-grain 9mm Federal HST (standard pressure) is also extremely good. I wouldn't hesitate buying and using either of them for home defense. This website will help you find them in stock.

I also highly recommend this accessory in order to make loading your pistol magazines much, much easier.

As to bullet overpenetration, all major rounds will zip right through several of the kinds of walls that you'd find in a typical home. The only "safe" option is birdshot (used in shotguns), but birdshot doesn't penetrate deep enough into the human body (you want 12 to 18 inches of penetration according to FBI tests) to reliably stop a home invader (and therefore birdshot obviously shouldn't be an option for home defense in my opinion). Don't listen to the people that will tell you that the 5.56x45mm NATO round is safer to use because it tends to tumble and fragment when it hits a wall. It will still penetrate through several walls. You just have to be careful about how you angle your shots. That's really your only way to avoid hitting innocent people.

And if you're not as worried as I am about permanently damaging your own hearing while defending your home, then the Smith & Wesson M&P15 SPORT II would be my top rifle recommendation (I recommend pairing it up with 30-round magazines from Lancer); the Mossberg 500 series of shotguns would be my top shotgun recommendation; and the full-size Smith & Wesson M&P9 would be my top pistol recommendation. And I'd pair them up with this electronic hearing protection if I was you.

As to ammo recommendations for the 3 options that I listed above, I recommend Hornady 75-grain BTHP T2 TAP (8126N) or Hornady 5.56 NATO 75-grain BTHP Superformance Match (the .223 version that Hornady makes is also fine); this Managed-Recoil 8-pellet 00 buckshot from Remington (it patterns very tightly); and the 147-grain 9mm Federal HST that I already mentioned above, twice.

And if you go with a pistol, then I recommend the Streamlight TLR-1 as a mandatory accessory.

As to lubricant, you can't really go wrong with Break-Free CLP.

I like my SRT5, but given the choice in the current market, I think I could save a few bucks on some alternatives. I do really like the control ring of the SRT5 and it is still unique in the market, but I don't think it's worth the extra price on top of some of these competitors.

  • ThruNite TN12 (2014) - This guy is very new to the market but ends up being very similar to a Fenix PD35 at a lower cost. You also get the option of Neutral white tint.

  • ThruNite Neutron 2C V2 - Similar to the Fenix E35 (below) this light has a single side switch for power and mode selection. Excellent value and brightness is on par with all of the others in this realm.

  • Nitecore P12 - $60 for 950lm high mode, side mode switch button just like the PD35 and TN12.

  • [Nitecore P10] (http://www.amazon.com/Nitecore-Tactical-Flashlight-Batteries-LumenTac/dp/B00M0EFYIC) - Quite similar to the P12, save ~$5 and take the max lumen output peak down a bit. Mode switch is on the tail next to the clicky - for emphasis on quick access to strobe modes and that sort of thing if you need it.

  • [Fenix PD35] (http://www.fenixlight.com/ProductMore.aspx?id=137&tid=9&cid=1) - It looks like Fenix has responded to the P12 with this 2014 edition of the PD35 here on amazon, bringing it to 960lm in turbo. Won't be all that different from the previous PD35.

  • Fenix E35 Ultimate Edition - This light is rather similar to the P10, except you have a single side switch for power and mode changes. Comes in at a great value, if you are OK with the UI.

Out of the above I would basically narrow it down based on what UI you like the best, weighted with price as well. If you would like power and separate mode switches, you've got the TN12, P12, P10, and PD35 to choose from. For a better value with just a single switch there is the E35UE and Neutron 2C V2. Based on my preference and budget I would try to get the TN12 (2014) in neutral tint if you can find it. If I needed a quicker turnaround I'd probably go with the P12 at $60. These are based on my personal criteria, definitely have a look at the parametrek page for your parameters as well.

Awesome suggestion. Never knew this existed. Perfect as it's impossible to find a good white eyeliner in my area. Plenty of white shadows in my collection plus this item will help greatly XD

I'm a pretty big guy, but I've moved a lot and I know very well the unsettling feeling of being alone in a new place. Do trust that it gets better with time, but in the meantime, try listening to tv or NPR or something. You can even leave it on in another room when going to bed. NPR is nice because it's very even toned and unlike TV, you won't have some B movie come on in the middle of night with explosions and screaming noises.

Use security bars on windows (not like bars over the windows, but bars to keep them shut, the little dinky window locks can be broken without too much force). If the doors have deadbolts, use them. If they don't ask to have them installed. Buy a big can of high-end pepper spray, like this one. If you're comfortable with guns, get one. If you aren't, don't, unless you are really willing to take the time to learn to clean, maintain, and use them safely. It's a big responsibility. Shotguns are nice, dependable, relatively inexpensive, and easy to use. They are also less likely to overpenetrate than rifle or pistol rounds. And they will stop pretty much anyone in their tracks.

Also, even if you can't install a security system (although if you're willing to pay for it, your landlord would likely have no issue with it), you can buy vibration sensors for windows and the like. They run around $20, run on batteries, and can be found at hardware stores like home depot.

In the end, you're probably being a little too paranoid, but that's normal, and it gets better.

u/HouselessGamer Β· 2 pointsr/homeless

Depends where you live. So I live in California & these options were available to me at one point or another or still are & homeless.

Monthly bus pass. With this you can seek out the longest route that runs 24hrs & sleep for about an hour and a half to two hours before boarding off then back on again for another nap. If you befriend the driver at the same hours they won’t trip. They sometimes like the extra person because it makes them feel as if nobody else will mess with them during those hours.

Storage. Stay away from big brand & go mom & pop. You can crash inside your unit during the day as needed. This will help if you get sick. I have a storage, mailbox & cellphone.

Sleeping outside. Save money for rainy weather or you can tuff it out. Carry a pocket knife & always be prepared to use it. Don’t ever pull a weapon if you’re not prepared otherwise it can be taken from toy & used on you. The pocket knife you can use to stab in to somebody thigh & twist. They will go sown & not be able to get back up. Only in self defense. Otherwise if the local authorities piece together that it looks like it wasn’t self defense then you’re in trouble. Also find a corner to sleep in this way nobody sneaks up behind you. Remember to push somebody off if they’re on top as they’re coming frontal, bring knees to chest & push/kick with legs

best pepper spray to buy, have it sent to a amazon locker near you if you can. my partner has one since I got it for her & works every time

In case it’s cold at night. Use one of those extra size backpacks. I carry three jackets to sleep in & a pair of baggy sweatpants that go over my day clothes & a blanket & sleep easy then pack everything away in the morning.

I find 24hr gas stations that sell food to be reasonably ok for sleeping but camping near a hospital ER is better. Not on hospital ground just on the sidewalk. 24hr bathroom, if you feel you’re in danger you can just walk up & go inside & just ask to use the bathroom or let the security guard know there some creep outside. They also usually have water fountains. So it’s pretty chill imo from my experience & easy to charge stuff as needed .

you can try The National Center for Homeless Education

Have you tried reaching out to The Office of Residence Life or the off campus office for resources? Does your school have Academic retention centers (ARCs)? They can help as well. I’d start with the office of student body. seek out opportunities for free housing, such as working as a resident assistant in a dorm. Look for resource centers for homeless college students in your area and check your school for year-round housing options.

If you can find a school buddy. It’s possible to use financial aid to live in a off campus apartment with some roommates. Also try checking with your finical aid department for additional loans or grants you can quality for.

This is all I have, good luck πŸ™

Amazon is helpful here. I would advise getting two things: a reliable, bright flashlight, and strong pepper gel.

For the flashlight, I recommend a Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G75P1SC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9ia.Bb301STP9) or the Streamlight Protac 2-LX (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WD29DZ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xka.Bb703WW4V).

There are a lot of good lights out there, but these two models are excellent and should meet the needs of most people. The 2-LX is bigger, brighter, and can use rechargeable batteries. However, the 1L-1AA has the advantage of being smaller. Both can easily fit in a pocket or purse.

Here’s a video review if the 2-LX: https://youtu.be/j_7RfUFYblU

Here’s a video comparing the two: https://youtu.be/vythpZUBab8

For the pepper gel, I recommend Sabre Red (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AT3LMP4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6ga.BbRKDF9CK). It has good range, is super hot, and this kit comes with a practice unit.

u/MilkChugg Β· 3 pointsr/SeattleWA

Get it if you feel that your life is worth protecting. You don't need to be paranoid, but it's always good to be prepared. If you're in a situation where you feel that your safety or your life is in danger, use it - it is effective. If that time comes, and I hope it doesn't, you are solely responsible for the outcome of that situation and I'm assuming you want it to work out in your favor. The police won't be there to protect you and people on the street will likely not intervene.

This is the one that I bought for myself and my wife. I'd also recommend getting the practice spray to try it out a few times and feel confident using it.

And disregard the people talking about how safe Seattle is and mocking others for being prepared. Your safety and your preparedness is more important than what they think.

Here's a few I snagged from my recently ordered list.

Secure USB Drive - For storing scans of important documents.

Mylar Blankets - Ridiculously thin. Good to keep in the car or every day carry bag for a variety of situations.

Camp Suds - Or alternately hand sanitizer. Both useful to stay healthy in Flu season or another outbreak that spreads via contact.

Emergency Whistle - Small enough to keep on a keychain. Loud enough to get attention when it's needed.

Mylar Bags + Oxygen Absorbers - If you're prepping, putting a hundred pounds or so of white rice in 5 gallon buckets is a great way to get started on a long term food supply without breaking the bank. Put it in these and it will stay fresher longer.

Water BOB - Great little device for if/when you know the water supply may be at risk. It's a cheap way to be able to store 100 gallons in preparation for an emergency.

Pepper Spray - The security product you can take most places.

Starter First Aid Kit - Gotta get that going some how. This one has a hard shell which is nice for tossing it in a pack. You'll have to fill it out with what you're likely to need.

Mainstay 2400 Calorie Bars - They stay good through some pretty extreme highs and lows which makes them ideal for tossing in a car. They last about 5 years or so and don't require any water to make them. They're very handy as they're a purchase and forget about them item (for a few years anyway) that lets you have some immediate food for however long you have them stocked for.

Life Straw - A personal filter for waterborne bacteria. Most water purification methods have some significant cost to them, but this one is a great inexpensive item to get started with.

There's a ton of little things on Amazon that are kind of cool to have on hand, but I'd recommend snagging whatever is most likely to help you in whatever your situation is likely to be. If you live in a wildfire prone area... the usb drive would be a wise start. Earthquakes? The emergency whistle. Bad neighborhood, pepper spray. You get the idea. Good luck!

>Have you ever taken a self-defense class?

This is great advice. Especially if you're at college, you can likely take self-defense classes for free or for a very low charge.

Since it sounds like both you and your roommate are on the small side, I highly recommend you take something like Brazilian jiu jitsu, which teaches you how to defend yourself without having to be particularly fast, strong, or big.

You can probably look up martial arts courses on your campus web-site. Don't feel intimidated. I've gone to a few different martial arts courses and they're extremely safe.

It's sexist, but because you're a girl, you'll probably be treated with greater "care." That does NOT mean YOU won't learn what you need to defend yourself: feel free to go "all out" when practicing with the men in the course. I understood why sometimes I'd hit the mat hardest when squaring off with the few women there.

>would you consider carrying mace?

Mace is likely to be available at a sporting goods stores. You can also purchase it online from Amazon. If you've signed up for the free Amazon Prime service for students, then you can have it in your hands in two days for no extra charge.

This is the pepper spray I got for my girlfriend. Right now it's less than $8 and comes with a keychain. You can shop around on the site and find something you like.

Good luck.

Check out Wyze labs at /r/wyzecam . They make affordable cameras that also pair up with a home sensor hub that will send push alerts if sensors are activated or people are detected on video. Inexpensive and a great value for some piece of mind and useful to build a case against someone, especially if something does happen.

As for self defense - anything you can do to get distance is key. Firearms are the greatest equalizer for this reason. Since you’re in the UK/EU I understand this isn’t an option. I saw Sabre GEL spray recommended which is great to have stashed in your pocket and around your home. They sell training canisters + real on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AT3LMP4/
I know several law enforcement folks (US) that keep these above doorway casings throughout their homes in case they don’t have a firearm on them. I thought this was a good safe simple idea for home, especially with kids!

In addition to making law enforcement aware of the situation, I would start looking for some sort of self defense class. There are some great easy things you can learn that if you find yourself in close physical contact and not able to retreat you can use. Eyes, ears and genitals are all very sensitive with lots of nerves. Not much strength is required to exploit these natural vulnerabilities.

Stay safe and keep us posted.

Knives in general do not make good self defense weapons for various reasons (range, lethality but most important legal issues) so aren't really recommended here for this purpose.

If you want to have a good self defense tool - get a police strength pepper spray.

As for knives for EDC (every day carry) - check out the Ontario RAT 1.

It was my first proper knife and I could easily recommend it for all sorts of tasks - DIY, hiking, food prep and even camping.

Has great value as well.

I run outside by myself and I’ve found I like having a pepper spray on my wrist like [this](SABRE RED Pepper Gel Spray - Police Strength - Runner with Adjustable Hand Strap (Max Protection - 35 bursts, up to 5x’s More) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002E6RERU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S0Q4DbDBKEVWX). I wear it on my left wrist to easily access it with my right hand. I like that it’s on display, I feel that it gives the perception that I am going to fight back. If I get into a situation that I feel uneasy about, simply switch the entire unit to your dominate hand to be on alert. The strap makes it harder to drop, which is really useful as a fairly clumsy person.

I also just want to say my heart really goes out to you. That’s a terrifying experience and I really wish you to best. We can be as prepared as possible and sometimes the universe just works against us.

Let's be realistic - unless you are maybe 10ft or closer you are not going to blind anyone with a flashlight. What you will do is completely give away your position and where to hit you at center mass.

A tracer will give away your position, but the acetech ones (aside from the Lighter BT) use a purpleish UV light to make the BBs glow and it's harder to detect.

Either one works, really. I would like to make some suggestions:

- If you go the flashlight route definitely check out the Inforce pic rail mount lights. I just got this one and I am really happy with it. Works well on the Evo rails as well. https://www.amazon.com/Inforce-W-05-1-Multi-Function-Mounted-XXX-Large/dp/B01LW4MEUG

- If you go the tracer route, instead of buying the 18mm to 14mm conversion piece, take a look at this one piece tracer adapter on Shapeways. I am really happy with this adapter as well. https://www.shapeways.com/product/RUSB9QVCN/asg-cz-evo-iii-1-piece-thread-adaptor-18mm-to-14m?optionId=65416238&li=marketplace

I've come into this late and don't know if anyone's suggested these things yet, but just in case they haven't been I'll go ahead.

I'm glad to hear you've called the police and that they'll be patrolling your area more. In the meantime, you can buy a door brace to ensure your door stays shut while you're home, and pepper spray to keep by your bed. I would also recommend purchasing a pepper spray to keep on your key ring so that you have something on your when you are walking to and from your car.

You could also buy a taser gun, but I have no personal experience with them and could not vouch for them personally like I can for a door jam and pepper spray.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's really scary to not feel safe, especially in your home, which should be a source of comfort for you. Take steps to make yourself feel better protected, and continue to call the police if anything else occurs. Do NOT hesitate to call them. I hope this situation gets taken care of quickly for you.

There's also the TLR-4 which is considerably cheaper than the TLR-2.

I have no experience with the TLR-4 but I do have the TLR-3 (One without the laser) and I really like it a lot. Its lightweight and small but still very bright.

Saying that though, I really love the TLR-1s that my dad has. Its more durable and brighter than the TLR-3. Right now on amazon its on sale and I would buy it over the TLR-4. Its strobe function would be more useful than a laser.

As others have stated, tell others where you are going, when you plan to be somewhere.if possible check in with people. The bear spray is good one and a better one that the hornet wasp spray because it has a wider funnel of spray so it is easier to aim. With wasp spray you have to be careful not to get hit yourself, it is a neurotoxic so it can affect you too. And the effects can remain. Another option is a taser like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MV7BOUT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_rbXTCbFJB1VCZ

They specifically designed to give you time to get away from the treat. They will zap for 30 seconds and it will take the person at least a minute to get control again over their muscles. If you pull the trigger again it will zap for another 30 seconds. These are allowed in all states after a 2016 Supreme Court decision. But with all means of self defense you have to think about step 2; how do you get away or keep the treat down. You could use these zip tie handcuffs and make sure to tie persons hands behind them https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3UAZ3B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_UfXTCb4WPP4G4

I am sorry that you have to think about this but the best advice is to go with someone else. If you live in an area where you are allowed to protect yourself with a firearm, get one and get training on how to use it correctly. Your life might depend on it.

u/WindowShoppingMyLife Β· 1 pointr/ZombieSurvivalTactics

Ok, well we can start there. This is a relatively easy light to shop for because it really only has to do one, relatively simple thing. It will probably be your most expensive light though, in terms of price, weight, and post apocalyptic energy consumption. But since it’s a light you will use in life or death situations, you get what you pay for.

With a weapon as lightweight as an AR it is possible to use a handheld light in a pinch, but it’s annoying, and you end up giving up some of your weapon support, so a weapon mounted light is a small but significant advantage.

In terms of what to look for, I recommend something that isn’t too powerful. One mistake people make with lights is that they think brighter is always better, which is not the case. On a combat light, a bright light does give you more distance, and also can momentarily make it harder for your attacker to see. The primary trade off is that indoors, these lights will also cause too much splash back, which affects your vision. Since most of your critical fighting, whether against humans or zombies, will be in relatively close quarters, you want to make sure you get a light that’s bright, but not so bright you blind yourself. Brighter lights also tend to suck more power, which often makes them heavier, more likely to die in the middle of a fight, and of course in an off grid situation they will use up more of your limited electrical supply.

Now, what counts as β€œtoo bright” does depend on how concentrated the beam is, and different manufacturers measure output differently, but as a general rule of thumb I recommend somewhere in the 200-300 lumen range.

One problem you see with a lot of lights is that manufacturers often add way too many bells and whistles. This appeals to the marketing side of things, but it actually makes a light much more difficult to use under pressure. That’s very bad in a combat light. A good combat light should have two modes, β€œconstant on” and β€œmomentary on.” Those are fairly self explanatory. Any other features are not features, they are bugs. With any combat light, you will use momentary on almost exclusively most of the time, in very short bursts. This is primarily to make it more difficult for a human enemy to pinpoint your location in the dark, and can also help to disrupt their night vision if they are not used to it. But it is useful to be able to lock it into constant on mode in case you need to use the weapon one handed. Ideally, you want both functions to have discrete controls, so each button or switch only does one thing, and you cannot activate one when you mean to activate the other.

Keep in mind that for close quarters fighting, a lot of pistol mounted lights also make excellent rifle lights, and are often much lighter weight, which is important.

I’ll give you a few different options to consider, though there are a lot of great options out there.

Streamlight 69110 TLR-1 Weapon Mount Tactical Flashlight Light - 300 Lumens https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JWD16E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_s0eIDbABDFN0G
This is an excellent all around light, and one of the best for the money. It will mount to any sort of rail on a pistol or rifle, takes 2 CR123 batteries (which do come in a rechargeable, though you may lose some power and battery life that way). On a rifle it’s perfectly usable with thumb switches, or if you prefer they sell an optional remote switch setup. These are one of the most common weapon lights used in law enforcement both for rifles and pistols, and I would not hesitate to trust one with my life.

Inforce W-05-1 400 Lumens Gen 2 Multi-Function Weapon Mounted Light, White/Black, XXX-Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW4MEUG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_57eIDbFCAHNBM
This is a rifle specific light. They are very simple to use, and very ergonomic, which is important on a weapon mounted light. You need to be able to reach it easily. They have a momentary/constant on modes, but you can also flip a switch that will make it momentary only, which is useful, and they have a physical lock that you can use to prevent accidental discharge when not in use. (Accidental light discharge can be a problem on a rifle light because it will bump against your body/gear). There are several versions of this light, some of which are too bright or have features you don’t need or want, but some of which would work very well for your purposes. I have a version of this light on my own rifle.

SureFire M300 Mini Scout M300 Mini Scout Light w/Z68 Click-Type tailcap pushbutton Switch, Black, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KZD83DW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_rrfIDbR1Z7JH4 These are a bit pricier than the other options, and tend to be on the heavy side, but they are absolutely bomb proof. Anything Surefire is going to last a lifetime. This model is right on the upper level of the brightness you would want, and it’s a single battery light which saves you some weight on the front of your gun. It takes a single CR123 battery, so rechargeables are an option. You may lose a bit of power, but like I said this is almost too much anyway, so that’s probably fine.

Or, if you want the cadillac option, there’s this one. https://www.surefire.com/m600ib-z68-bk-scout-light.html This is a big, relatively heavy, relatively expensive light, but it does have surefire’s β€œintellibeam” system, which is one of the few new flashlight technologies that is actually worth having. What it does is sense the amount of light being reflected back at the user, and adjust the intensity of the output automatically. So no matter what you point it at, near or far, you always get as much light as possible without blinding yourself. I have this on my work light, and it’s a game changer. You can use the same light to search a car or a closet that you use to shine across a field, all without requiring any additional thought or input from the user. So far surefire is the only one with something like this, and only on a handful of their lights, but at some point I have no doubt this will be considered an essential feature in a combat light. It’s that good.

This light does use 2 CR123 batteries, which is ok, though you will probably get a very short run time with rechargeables, even by the standards of a tactical light (which all have fairly short run times). However, I strongly suspect that surefire is currently working on a β€œdual fuel” version of this light, which would get much better performance with rechargeable batteries, and be able to use a rechargeable 18650 battery or CR123 batteries. Because keeping it charged would be a big deal in a zombie situation, it might be worth waiting until they come out with a version that is both β€œdual fuel” and β€œintellibeam.” My (handheld) work light has both, and they are both worth having, in my opinion.

Many handheld lights can also be made into a weapon light with the addition of a rail mount. This is a cheap and reliable option, though these lights are often fairly heavy. Also keep in mind that not all handheld lights are designed to withstand recoil so even if you have a very high quality light you want to check before using it as a weapon light.

Depending on which version of the Ruger you have, you will need to either get an MLOK rail section, or you can get a rail mount that attaches to an A2 front sight post, like this. Midwest Industries Tactical Light Mount for Standard Front Sight, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002E6PAHG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5hfIDbXM6VMJE I know several people who use these along with a pistol light, and it’s a very functional setup. You can also get similar mounts that attach to the bayonet lug, if you prefer.

How/where to light the mount tends to depend on your personal preferences and shooting style, so there are a million different ways to set it up. You just have to find something that’s easy to use for you.

If you aren’t carrying a pistol, which most people won’t need, then you probably won’t need a handheld combat light, so the weapon light will be your biggest ticket item.

Ugh. Definitely be careful then. Like seriously, I would suggest ordering those lock things off of Amazon ASAP. It's ballsy to go through someones wallet while they are sleeping right there, so obviously the person has no shame. Make sure you do not keep ANYTHING out that has passwords in it. No diaries. Sleep with your wallet in the bed with you. I would not say a word about it, just install the locks on stuff, and protect your stuff nonchalantly. Also I realize this sounds insane, but if you have credit cards, put a fraud alert on your account. Do not underestimate people. Does your part where your stuff is have a lock on it? you might even talk to the RA about switching rooms just to be safe. I know it'll flame your relationship with your roomies, but you can make new ones and that's some real serious Klepto stuff that will just add way more stress to your life than necessary. If you cannot switch rooms, figure out a way to lock your door. Also, from reading how the locks work in those doors, it looks like you can just open them with the credit card trick, which is REALLY not good. I would for sure figure out a way to lock the door while you are sleeping with one of those bar things that attaches to the door and the floor so that they can't do that and sneak in. It won't help while you are out, but if you lock everything down, they'll move on to your other roommates who presumably have not protected their stuff. My husband maintains that karate is very effective. There are various styles. Researching them for yourself would be most beneficial. I studied Tae Kwon Do and some shotokan, which is good for my body type because I have horrid upper body tone, though i have tried bulking up before, BUT I also have very strong legs. TKD is a lot of kicks, though some is for show. I think the main thing I liked about my husband's school was that they taught what to do when you lose the upper hand and have to grapple, as well as what to do when you have your feet under you. I can't for the life of me remember the style he learned, but the school was Hsin Lu Dao... I'm fairly certain it was shotokan and go ju. He says the grappling was more jiu jitsu... multiple schools tend to cover multiple bases. It isn't exactly comfortable at first, but it does eventually become ingrained as reflexes. Husband says shotokan schools are becoming more and more tournament centered, so it's probably worth shopping around for an academy.

I don't think it'd be good for more than a couple of bursts, though the packaging says something like 20.

Theres a two pack. Give one to a friend.

Always test it once downwind first. Each cannister has about 20 shots.

If you ever have to use it never pussy foot it, otherwise you'll just escalate the situation and potentially freeze. Unload the thing on the attacker so that you're 100 percent sure it'll incapacitate

There's that thing too. Those are good from close range.

It's good to get brightly colored ones so you can easily find it.

The pepper spray with the plastic shell is better because the grip makes it obvious which way it's pointing.

But again, always test them to make sure they aren't defective. There's always a chance that you have a dud that doesnt spray right.

For the most part this was exactly the outcome you could hope for. You are self aware and continually check your surroundings for exactly this purpose. They identified you as a potential target but then you engaged them, identified them, and chose the wisest path of egress. You did not present the easy target they may have been searching for.

IMHO, groups like this are only a threat as long as they're together. While personal alarms (almost as effective as car alarms), and stun guns hold a purpose neither would be effective in this situation. Pepper spray could strike multiple opponents and buy you the time to Get Outta Dodge. Keep doing what you're doing. I've chatted with the guy who runs Fox Labs (surprisingly, when I called them to ask a question it was the owner of the company that picked up). He told me that the only reason for the expiration is that over time, the cans may slowly lose pressure. Not always, but just it could happen, so they say three years just to cover that possibility. I actually have had cans of Fox Labs from circa 2007, which were just like new when I finally shot them off. The Fox Labs owner told me that the liquid itself doesn't degrade over time, the expiration is just about possible depressurization over time. I do change them out after three years, but I also either use old ones for training, or else I keep them aside as backups. In my experience they are good for way longer than three years.

I also really like their 1 lb pepper spray:

GG&G for the rail. It's about the cheapest non-hokey solution; they make a magazine cap spacer for the 870 that has a sling mount and Picatinny rail on it. I have one (870 mount on a Remington Model 11) and it's great, and puts a light with a tailswitch right where your left hand would need to be to operate it.

Lightwise, Streamlight makes good stuff. Alternately, Surefire mil-surp stuff that ends up on ebay. Specifically, I'd go with this or a used Surefire 951. The 951 is old tech and the bulb doesn't last nearly as long as modern stuff, but for something you're going to function check once a month it's perfectly adequate.

The [Streamlight TLR-4] (https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-TLR-4-Light-Laser-Black/dp/B0077RHYWQ) is just over $100 on Amazon right now.

Let the haters hate. If you want a light/laser combo, get one. I like mine. I shoot well, but thought hey, might be fun to have a laser.... and it is fun. It has a toggle so you can select to use just the light, use both, or just the laser. Its bright enough for HD without being too blinding.

I picked mine up for like $90. If you get this now, you'll still have enough $$ for several hundred rounds of training ammo to get familiar with your new laser/light!

For the record, I don't find my OTR to be inferior to my Olight an any way besides aesthetics personally, but that's fine. If you want brand name but reasonably compact, the Olights are not a terrible choice.

The S2 Baton is what the M6 was designed after and gives you a good 950 lumens max, but is a bit over your price range. The have the M18 Maverick as well which is more affordable, but you're looking at about half the max output.

There are also lights like the Fenix E35UE but it doesn't have a pocket clip (though you can likely use most any generic 18650 light clip) or perhaps the Nitecore P10, but it is somewhat larger, and Nitecore tends to use some lower frequency PWM that some people dislike.

To be honest, it's going to be more difficult to find a good "brand name" light that performs well in your price bracket; I find that you can mostly only get the entry level products from most of them while the lesser known (but not necessarily inferior) lights will provide more.

EDIT: I did not confirm compatibility with the longer cells you have mentioned in your OP with these lights.

Be very careful with this. Normal men in their 60s do not sexually pursue teenagers. Normal men listen when you say "no."

Next time don't apologize and blame it on policy or an imaginary boyfriend or that you're busy, because that leads this type on and it makes them think you would otherwise be interested, and they will try to wear you down. Don't say "oh I'm sorry, I can't because..."

Just tell the truth: "I am not interested in that. Please don't ask me again."

The most important thing I learned at that age is that you, yourself, have to be the "reason" you're not giving out your number. That gives them nothing to work with. Also, don't smile, don't be cute or quiet or unsure in any way. Make direct eye contact when you say "don't ask me again."

If he persists, escalates, or gets aggressive with you in any way, call the police. Don't deal with it yourself. They will let him know why it is inappropriate for a man in his 60s to try to force a teenager to have sex with him.

You would also be wise to get some pepper gel and keep it on you at all times at work. Better to have it and never use it, than to arrive at that moment wishing you had it. I speak from experience. Be safe.

u/huckstah Β· 5 pointsr/vagabond

Funny your name is Saber, because Sabre is definitely the one I rely on.

The best is the Sabre Red Police-Grade Pepper Gel. It comes out in a wide spray of gel like substance, which is awesome because the first thing people do when they get hit in the face is to try to smear it off their face with both hands. But, the more you smear the gel, the worse it gets. It completely incapacitates them for better than typical spray.

It's only 13 dollars, I highly recommend it for any traveler.

Red Dot

Light Mount

If you're trusting your life to a budget red dot that is the way to go, 50,000 hours of battery life so you never have to turn it off.
I've heard good things about that light as well and own a TLR myself (made by the same company) and its great, that mounting option attaches directly to the front sight post so you don't need a new hand guard, if you do want a quad rail though I recommend this, I have an MI quad rail on my rifle and its rock solid.

> Anything reasonable.

You'll have to be more specific around here. =)

For example, there's the $10 Tube that u/Natanael_L mentioned which is great bang-for-the-buck.

However, there is also a similar looking $70 Surefire Sidekick that some people consider perfectly "reasonable" -- it has more output and is American-made.

u/Kenobi3371 Β· 1 pointr/sanfrancisco

Exactly, whenever I'm not at work I'll carry oc or more. Sabre sells some that clip into a pocket well for only 7$. There's also products that can attach to keychains. Or if you want the extra liability Taser sells the pulse for 400$ which you can conceal in a waistband pretty easily (it's very small). Alternatively martial arts is an awesome resource -- if you're smaller in stature check out Wing Chun. Hope this helped.

u/fr0st_bytes Β· 0 pointsr/homedefense

This is the OC I personally use, but in a smaller canister since I carry it with me. I like this one cause it's one that can be sprayed from any angle, so if a confrontation gets physical, you can spray it upside down if need be. If you're worried about being accurate with your adrenaline pumping, something like this would help that, but it's also gonna cause even more OC to be in the room/area and you'll feel the effects stronger as well. TASER is in fact a brand, but it's basically THE ECW. The TASER Pulse+ is an option, though.

I prefer OC in self defense over the TASER. This is a video showing why. It's a physical confrontation only, not exactly the same situation you're preparing for, but if you ended up having to defend yourself and due to moral or legal obligations, a firearm isn't an option...OC puts baddies on their butt.

Did you say you already had a TASER? Something to keep in mind, some people here suggested gel OC spray...if you spray someone with gel OC, then tase them, there is a chance they catch on fire. Water based OC sprays are the way to go in my opinion. We're not allowed to carry gel based spray for that reason.

u/BamBam12612 Β· 5 pointsr/running

Personally I have never dealt with this experience. However, I think there are a couple things you can do. I always try to not run in the same place two days in a row, not because of paranoia but mainly because it's nice to not run the same way everyday. The other thing I'd suggest is maybe getting pepper spray. I know neither of these options will necessarily help you forget the things you experienced but maybe they'll put your mind at ease a little while running knowing that you are a little safer.

Seriously, where are these idiots suggesting bear mace coming from?

If anyone is wondering, this is the one I recommend - $10 - it's the same formula as used by police departments across the country. The key chain attachment makes it easy to tie on a bright colored string lanyard, thus if it's tucked in your purse or pocket you'll easily find it. It's very effective.

If you want to step up in terms of distance, this is the one you want.

These spray a gel like spray, so the likelihood of it blowing in your face is very low.

Sabre sells a pocket sized gel mace that comes with a training cartridge. I highly recommend it. I also have their big fuck-off hand sprayer for home defense. I like mace as a proportional response for all the reasons you mentioned, plus a lower incidence of mortality on employment than electrical methods. More less lethal?

I always have one of these on my keychain in my back left pocket. Comes out quick with my off hand and leaves my dominant hand free for whatever follow up is necessary.

Edit: Thanks to the training cartridge, I know for sure that accurate one-handed off-hand employment is possible. Not awesome, but possible.

The surefire scouts are nice but they're a rip off. I've used both, and have the streamlight on my rifle now. It's 625 lumens and comes with everything needed to mount it to a pic rail with a tape switch. The surefire doesn't come with a switch OR tail cap, they bang you for both of them separately

Pair that with the magpul offset mount which screws directly into the mounting hardware on the streamlight with two screws and mounts directly to your mlok rail and you have an awesome light for $120

They should be thankful I wasn't there. I carry a fire extinguisher sized bottle of pepper spray in my car spray for road ragers. It would've cleared those UCSD morons off the freeway pretty fast with some to spare. Fox Labs is some pretty wicked sh*t!

u/KazarakOfKar Β· 3 pointsr/ar15

Here you go only surefire light I have. Someone convinced me it was the best. With the tape switch and the end cap it is more than $300.00.

All of my other rifles have this. The Streamlight product also includes the cap for the tape switch and the tape switch itself. The beam is not as focused at distance but considering most people are going to be in an HD situation at 25 yards and under for the price difference it is a fine light.

So my boyfriend is moving to NYC this month and I will be traveling up there alone a lot this year into the Brooklyn area on public transportation and I really need this pepper spray just in case. Bears have much more sensitive noses and are typically fended-off from a longer distance. It's a much bigger can and it makes a big cloud. Pepper gel comes in a much smaller canister and is supposed to be safer to use and more effective on humans.

u/Schwa142 Β· 2 pointsr/ar15

Here's a good Streamlight for around $100... They can go for a little more, and a little less. If you're really set on getting a laser, this may be a good option for you.

I've been carrying a Surefire Sidekick for a few weeks and I love it. It's a bit large for keychain carry, I've got mine on a retractable lanyard clipped to a belt loop. But it's incredibly bright, compact, and rechargeable via Micro USB. A bit pricey, but I use it multiple times a day for work and I've found it to be worth the money.

I asked my friend who is a gun/self defense nut what brand of pepper spray I should buy. He recommended Saber Red Gel. Its long range, a gel instead of a spray so you're less likely to get sprayed accidentally when you use it, and has tear gas mixed in for good measure. I bought two cans, one for me and one for my girlfriend.

It sounds like you want it for personal protection. Get this instead. This is coming from someone who loves knives and carries one always and has used them a ton and trained to use them. A lot more reliable, and will generally keep you safer, and a lot less legal liability if you use it. Yes there was a commando on the front page, but that is offensive use he was talking about anyway.

Yeah, that's exactly what i'm saying.

Ever heard of the 21 foot rule? Look it up.

> Just get pepper spray. It's legal and its way way way more effective than a knife.

I don't disagree, I just like something I can easily conceal between my belt if I want to, also the whole intimidation thing. Anyways I just bought This after your last comment, didn't know it's that cheap. I'm still going to carry both though, a knife doesn't run out of ''ammo'' (or spray in this case).

Pepper spray is totally legal in Colorado if you're using it in self-defense. It's legal to carry and you don't need to warn people around you that you are in possession of it-- in other words, you can conceal carry it legally. I believe it's also legal to brandish it. I carry this with me at all times. Important to use pepper gel and not pepper spray, as it's more wind-resistant and less likely to blow back into your face.

u/Gunsandgoodcoffee Β· 1 pointr/CCW

For me personally it would be this stuff.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0007VM8UC/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1450655517&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=sabre+red+pepper+spray&dpPl=1&dpID=41wFpa%2BMrFL&ref=plSrch

I keep a can in my backpack when I'm at school. I'm sure someone has mentioned it already but having a good awarness of your souroundings will do you wonders. Just remember that spray is not ment to end the fight as much as it is to disorient your attacker so you can flee. That's why most of these sprays come with a uv active agent so your attacker can be identified later. And of course make sure your state and local laws don't restrict you from having self defense spray.

u/Squishy_Cat Β· 1 pointr/asktransgender

It might be a good time to mention getting some pepper spray. Sabre Red makes some small ones that are a gel type (much less chance of it blowing back in your own face) and they're only about $9 on Amazon. They have a slightly bigger size for $13 that has a longer range too.

u/Dumpy_Creatures Β· 6 pointsr/Survival

Bear spray is considered a pesticide by the epa and as such has standards for humane treatment. It is not meant to incpapacitate as pepper spray is. It isn’t as strong as I thought it was though. (In retrospect this makes sense due to a Bears much greater sense of smell than a person) Pepper sprays have more oil making them thicker and harder to remove. Bear sprays are designed to create a cloud for maximum coverage making where as pepper spray is a stream for less splash damage and blow back.

One of the problems was that the officer used a pepper spray which he had no right to use. he is authorized and trained to use MK4 but he used MK9.

MK9 is bigger, more potent which requires more training to use (but which to be knowledge works pretty much like MK4 in practice).

I understand the officers choice to use MK9, as MK4 is not designed to be used on so many people, and he would have had to empty several canisters in order to spray all the protestors, but rules and regulatons are there for a reason, and sometimes they are used in order to shitcan someone.

u/ATC_Boilermaker Β· 22 pointsr/Purdue

Outside of the legal options, may I also suggest you purchase some pepper spray from Amazon for your personal protection? I agree with every saying to check the laws in your state. I personally live in the suburbs of a pretty big city in a low crime area. My office is also in a low crime area. I always carry my can of pepper spray and/or a charged taser when I'm walking to my car at night. In my state, you can't conceal-carry a taser, so I'll walk with keys in one hand and taser in the other. So far I've had zero incidents, but you can never be too safe!

Where in India? Because India as a whole is a very big country with every region being a country in itself.

1)Always drink bottled water.

2)Stay with your group. Don't go anywhere alone.

3)If you are into alcohol and stuff (I know you are underage but still), refrain from taking too much and getting sloshed however fun it is.

4)Don't be gullible.

5)Keep [this] (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=portable+anker) and this on you all the time.

6)It's generally safe but I have a feeling you might go into ghetto type of areas a lot because of the nature of your trip. Be careful.

7)Don't go around wearing clothes that reveal too much. You will be working in very poor areas and those kind of people are not used to seeing that kind of stuff.

8)People will stare at you a lot. I know it sucks but that's how it is.

9)Read up on common scams that go on. Make sure you dont fall for them.

11)Be wary of everyone. Don't take food or drinks from anyone you meet in your travels.

u/Dampwaffles1 Β· 11 pointsr/guns

Nonsense. Virtually all of the points that you made are completely moronic. Lasers do indeed make aiming quicker and easier. They're also not hard to see and they're not hard to turn on. They also don't have to be perfectly zeroed to be effective in a typical self-defense scenario. And they are indeed extremely intimidating. And in order to avoid the batteries dying on you, simply change them every 6 months just like with your weapon light (which use the same battery with a laser/light combo).

Use common sense and your own experience when deciding what to use for self-defense. If you feel that a laser will help you, then ignore the faux-expert forum/reddit idiots and go for it.

Something like this should work great for most people.

Now, I'm not saying that I believe that all firearms should have lasers on them. I really only think that lasers make sense for genuine military and police operators since it allows other members of your team to target a hostile. I also don't really think that lasers are needed for home defense guns, either. A simple light attachment is much more practical. But there's still no real downside to putting a laser on your home dense gun. It's simply a matter of personal preference.
