I have cheap LED strips behind my work monitors for bias lighting, Philips Hue strips behind my television, and a Philips Hue Bloom behind my home monitor. Personally, I am unlikely to ever buy light strips again and will almost certainly only use some kind of lamp in the future for the ability to move them around more easily. I like the Philips Hue light bars for this in the future, though they're expensive. If you need to keep it under $20, then pretty much any random strip from Amazon with one of those little dedicated remotes will be about the same as any other.
took about a month, but it came together nicely. 4 Billy bookcases (plus 4 of the single-cubby extensions because I have 10 foot ceilings). add baseboard and shoe moulding, make vertical trim pieces between the bookshelves, add some vertical height, and crown moulding - just as classy as a true solid wood built-in!
for the picture lights, i actually bought some on amazon, disassembled them and cut them down to size with a hacksaw, and then mounted just the head part through the fascia board.

Very good. This is a good example of incorporating your interests into the design of your place and making it look put together.
If you wanted to make a slight tweak, putting gallery lights onto the frames would give you a nice indirect lighting source for the room and really bring out the posters at night. The track lighting is a little harsh, so those along with a cool floor lamp by the couch would make the room look real good at night.
This should work, but I'm pretty astonished by the price. I just saw this the other day though, and am thinking of giving it a shot: https://www.amazon.com/hz/reviews-render/mobile-media-feed/B07GXVNBRZ?physicalId=61sWHXMHuPL&imageExtension=jpg&reviewId=R36K6F4VH9I672
I have retrofitted two kitchens with LED under cabinet lighting, both before tiling the backsplash, each at a cost under $100 USD. The first has been going strong for almost 10 years.
First, IMO under cabinet lighting is task lighting. It doesn't need to be dimmable and doesn't need to be RGB, just go with a warm or cool temperature depending on your preference.
This is what I suggest - I assume you are in the U.S...
I used these items. This setup is simple and inexpensive, any one component can be replaced easily if it fails, and it can be controlled by a smart switch of your choice.
If you want mood lighting, then you can wire 110v outlets above the cabinets and use one, or two of Philips - Hue Play White & Color Ambiance Smart LED Bar Light to shine on the ceiling, or use Philips Hue bulbs in your recessed light cans.
They do change color! It comes with a remote where you can choose what color and brightness. They just stick on the back of the tv and are powered via USB.

Now if you wanna get real fancy with it, Philips makes a light kit as well. Stronger light and you can control it with your phone and there’s a TON of customization options too.

I'd go with the BR30 3rd Gen or Par 16 and a accent uplight. I just did this same thing in my living room and I like that they get brighter and look more like a spotlight than the bloom.
Here's what they look like:

All in, it costs about $800. Broken down by cost:
I just picked up the new light bars. They work great, even better than the old AMBX gaming lights I had years back!
