  2. Using a pseudonym for her privacy. Farrah Higgins.
Background: Farrah is one of the closest, if not the closest, friends I’ve ever had. She was my choir teacher in high school and much older than I am. I’ve always been rather mature for my age, so I get along better with older people. Well, we clicked and after I graduated we became super close. As you’ll soon figure out, I loved her in more ways than one.

Reason: I don’t even think I have the words to properly describe how grateful I am that she is my friend, how much love I have for her, or just how much I admire her. I think she is absolutely amazing. I could gush on for hours about how amazing I think she is. She is incredibly friendly and loving. It is a blessing to know that God saw fit to create people like her and allow me to be blessed by her presence and faith. I think she is completely insane, well, maybe not completely (that’s reserved for me) but she’s up there.

She was there for me, although not in the flesh, my first semester as a freshman in college. I had no friends and was incredibly lonely. We texted, talked, and/or messaged daily. Looking forward to talking with her is what got me through the day. She gave me new eyes to look through and a different perspective. I believe she helped me grow a lot as a person, challenging me to better myself and ask questions. She understands me better than anyone I’ve ever met. I could look at her and not say a word and she’d know what I was feeling and, if necessary, how to comfort me.

I think she’s beautiful, externally and internally beautiful. External: I love her eyes. (Then again, that is probably because I have always been an eye person.) They are so expressive and so full of love. I love the way her lips pucker when she says and describes something she thinks is ‘beautiful’. I find it adorable. I love her smile. When she smiles, it seems as if all is right with the world. I love her passion for life and her passion for living it. I love her passion for God; it is inspiring and gives me faith. I love her passion for passion; it frightens and excites me. I love how humble she is. As often as people (and I) tell her that she is amazing, she never lets it go to her head. I love her sense of humor. I love how she’s not afraid to make a joke that is ‘wrong’ by every standard. I love how she is so unafraid to speak her mind. It’s so refreshing.

Now to clear up any… issues. I was over 18 when I met her, so don’t fear of some illegal activity or whatever it is people jump to conclusions about. Secondly, although the love is shared, the romantic love is not and mine goes unrequited. We are still friends to this day although from a greater distance due to life taking us in different directions.

u/fireofaerys · 11 pointsr/gaming

Oh boy. There's a large list of games I believe a worth completing or otherwise sinking hours in to.

Shooters

Borderlands: GOTY - I enjoyed this more than 2, but I also feel like it's more grindy than BL2

Borderlands 2

Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm - Gather a few friends and RO2: Rising Storm is a blast. It tries hard to pretend it's realistic, but don't take it too seriously. It's a WW2 shooter, but damn it if it isn't satisfying.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series - I linked CoP as it's the newest game, but also the best in my opinion. It's an open world, apocalyptic shooter with RPG elements. This game needs the Misery mod to go along with it. It's free and adds a legendary amount of content and replayability. In particular, fans of roguelikes and games like Dark Souls would probably like this game.

Spec Ops: The Line - No game in 2012 touched this game's story. I won't spoil much, but the action and gunplay is enough to keep you involved with the story line. If you're a fan of plots, you need to play this.

Saint's Row 2 - Arguably the best SR game, the amount of pure content and hilarious combat isn't to be missed.

Red Faction: Guerilla - This is $1.99 right now on Steam, so there's no excuse to not play this. Open world, everything is destructible and fun to blow up. I've put 120 hours in to this. There are a couple mods out there that make it even more fun, but this is the best Red Faction game to date.

Just Cause 2 - While the singleplayer is moddable and not to be missed, the recent JC2 Multiplayer mod is absolute madness. It's Red Faction: Guerilla on a hefty amount of crack.

Hitman - While Absolution is regarded as the low point by some, it's still a fun game. Killing people has never been more fun. Definitely worth a look.

Far Cry 3 - This game is nuts. Do not skip this.

PAYDAY 2 - The first game was awesome, the second one is just generous. While I often argue they were lazy with the first one, the second one is absolutely FILLED with things to spend your (ingame) money on. It's a very large game with a generous helping of content that is even further expanded upon if you play with friends.

Sleeping Dogs - For some reason, this game demands your attention. There is not a crazy, Skyrim-level amount of stuff to do, but for some odd reason it grabs and keeps your attention for hours on end. Definitely a fun open world game, the story isn't bad either.

RPGs/Strategy

LEGO Lord of the Rings - LEGO games are great, but I found LotR to be particularly satisfying. Easy to drop in and play with friends, as well.

The Guild 2 - If you've ever wanted to own your own bakery, start a family, run an Assassin organization,
or become mayor of a city then this game is for you. Multiplayer adds an extra level of fun.

Crusader Kings 2 While the DLC is a bit pricey, there is a lot to choose from. If you enjoy history, or alternative history, you will definitely enjoy this. Establish your own kingdom or conquer a current one, with a large focus on continuing your family line.

Fallout - I found Fallout 3 to be more enjoyable than New Vegas, but there isn't a bad Fallout game and you can't go wrong.

Deus Ex: HR - While it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, the visuals and RPG elements make this game a winner in my book.

XCOM: EU/EW - XCOM: EW is one of the better strategy games to come out as of late, and it's expansion -- Enemy Within -- only makes it better.

KOTOR 2 - If you can tolerate older games, you shouldn't miss out on KOTOR 2. While KOTOR 1 is awesome, 2 just blew me away when it first came out. Even if you don't like Star Wars or know anything about it, the feeling of becoming a Jedi is so awesome. And there is hours and hours and HOURS of content, the mods alone have the potential to add upwards to 100 hours of replayability.

The Elder Scrolls - Even if you've played Skyrim or Oblivion, try out some you've never played or perhaps revisit older games like Morrowind. If you have never touched an ES game, now's the time.

Anno 2070 - I'm not so sure this is worth $30, but if you wait for a sale you have a pretty sweet strategy game. It's different, but in a good way. I can only recommend you try it to see if you like it.

Action/Other

Assassin's Creed - You would find quickly that AC is one of the most time-consuming, visually-stunning, heart-racing franchises of it's time. While it had it's low points, it could very well be my favorite franchise of all time. If you aren't interested in all of the games, AC4: Black Flag is a fresh start. You don't need prior knowledge of the other games to play it. But not playing the entire series would be unfortunate.

Binary Domain - This is a very underrated game with a very awesome story. Worth a look. It's on sale right now!

Game Dev Tycoon - Not an entirely original idea, but perhaps the most well executed. With a growing list of mods and a new multiplayer mod that adds a lot to the experience, it can easily take up hours of your life.

Hotline Miami - This game is like... I don't know. It's awesome. It's bloody murder wrapped in to an LSD-tripping pig mask. Just play it, you won't be disappointed.

The Wolf Among Us - If you enjoy story-packed games with a wild amount of replayability, you can't go wrong with Telltale. The Wolf Among Us is their most recent new endeavor and even if you haven't read the comics, it's an amazing, heartfelt story. 10/10 would wolf again.

POSTAL 2 - If there was ever a game to channel your inner psychopath, it's this.

Brutal Legend - I went in to this game not knowing what to expect, having no prior knowledge of it. It has a surprising amount of content and more to unlock. Awesome soundtrack and great voice acting and a pretty large open world make this a great experience.

Metal Gear Solid - This is up there with AC. I absolutely love Metal Gear Solid. You can pick up MGS4 for cheap, also.

Sims 3 - This game can be very stupid fun, or very serious fun. It depends on how you want to play it. Which is fun to me.

EDIT: Fixed some stuff, added some games

u/cocobandicoot · 10 pointsr/PS3

A bit of a novel, but I hope you find this helpful, OP.

First, to comment on what happened on your call with Microsoft: maybe it's possible you just got one of the really bad reps? But then again, they got a supervisor involved and they still wouldn't just fix the situation for you? Especially seeing as you hadn't even used your subscription... that is pretty ridiculous. Well, I'm confident that you'll find the PlayStation experience an enjoyable one.

-----

Honestly, this is probably the best time to try out a PS3. We're closing out on this generation of consoles and some of the best games of the last few years have been PlayStation exclusives. Especially if you've been using an Xbox 360 this whole time, you're about ready to meet a whole new world of incredible titles.

Quick edit: Just wanted to clarify... I'm including links to Amazon just as an easy way for you to learn more about individual titles. But just as /u/undeadwolfy mentioned:

>You can buy most of these pre-owned at a decent price. Some are digital so they're not much cheaper but still great.

So first and foremost, I highly recommend anything by Naughty Dog -- they are arguably the best developer in the entire industry right now. They released four titles on the PS3: Uncharted 1, 2 & 3 (each game is a must-play), and the absolute masterpiece that is The Last of Us. You've probably heard plenty of praise for The Last of Us (and it is well deserved), but I would recommend saving the best for last. It's such an awesome game that, after completing it, nothing else I played interested me anymore. It took like a month to get back into the gaming groove, so I'd save that 'til after you beat the Uncharted trilogy. It's that good.

Aside from that, there are some other great titles I'd highly recommend. I don't know what kind of games you're into, so I'll just list all those that I've liked, personally:

  • Metal Gear Solid saga (MGS 1-3 were released on PS1 & PS2, but they've since been rereleased in HD for PS3, alongside MGS 4).

  • Heavy Rain (A very story driven game, where the choices you make can drastically affect the storyline. Plus... boobs.)

  • Beyond Two Souls (Brand new, just came out. Similar to Heavy Rain in its execution -- story driven.)

  • God of War trilogy (Awesome, mature platformer. The first two games were for PS2, but were released in HD alongside GOW3 on PS3. Also has boobs.)

  • Little Big Planet 1 or 2 (A great couch multiplayer side scroller. Lots of fun, more of a kids game... or a game to play with drunk adults.)

  • Infamous 1 & 2 (An interactive comic book. An "open world" platformer that lets you shoot lightning from your hands. Has a cool element where you can choose to be good or evil.)

Not to mention plenty of other great exclusives (Rachet & Clank series, Resistance trilogy, Valkyria Chronicles and more) and the tons of PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation Store for cheap, playable on your PS3 if you want to go old school. (Not to mention the many PS2 games being rereleased for PS3 in HD glory... I'd recommend Shadow of the Colossus, which happens to be free for PlayStation Plus members this month... hint hint.) Of course, all the multiplatform games are also here (Battlefield, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc.).

  • Oh, did I mention the PS3's online multiplayer is free?
  • And if you've got Netflix, you don't need to pay Sony a cent to watch it (unlike a certain other console's "Gold" requirement).

That said, however, if you really want to jump in the game, PlayStation Plus is worth every penny -- a ton of free games each month (and we're talking major titles, in addition to a handful of indies), plus a large variety of other system-enhancing features and discounts. And if you're looking at getting a PS4, getting PS+ is a no-brainer. For one, it is required for online multiplayer on the PS4 (no such requirement on the PS3, but hey, they've got to make their money somehow). But what's awesome is that one PS+ account will work across both the PS3 & PS4, and enable you to get free games for each console for as long as you are a subscriber, with free games on the PS4 appearing on day one.

Welcome to the new age. Now cue up some Imagine Dragons and get ready for a freaking awesome experience. We're glad to have you.
u/kaztrator · 2 pointsr/PS3

First thing's first. Pay $50 for PS Plus. You'll get free games every month. This month, you'll be getting Deadly Premonition and the Hitman HD Collection, which I've heard great things about despite not playing it myself.

The Last of Us and the Uncharted Trilogy are the best games hands-down. Those are probably the best games I have ever played so I implore you to play through those first.

You should definitely check out Assassin's Creed: Ezio Trilogy. You should probably play the original Assassin's Creed first, because it will make your enjoyment of Revelations that much sweeter, but the Ezio Trilogy is definitely the best part of the series.

Infamous is excellent. I just finished the game for the first time and will be playing through it again. I haven't played Infamous 2, but I've heard good things about it as well.

Demon's Souls is another fantastic game. It's pretty difficult though. I think it's best played as a buffer while you're playing another game. Like, if you're sick of running around Rome for a while in Assassin's Creed, take a break, do some of your Demon's Souls levels, and go back to AC. It definitely requires some patience.

The Batman Arkham Trilogy is also great. Some people have found a habit of shitting on Origins, but it's still a great game despite not being the best of the 3. You could play it first and then experience the others in both quality and chronological order.

The whole Grand Theft Auto series is fantastic. I've played them all and enjoyed every single one. It's probably my favorite series of all time. You can find GTA3, GTA4, GTA5, Vice City, Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories all on PSN. San Andreas was removed because a remastered release is coming out soon. I promise, you'll enjoy them all!

I bought the Prince of Persia HD Trilogy and Splinter Cell HD Trilogy online and don't regret them. They are originally PS2 games, but the remakes are fantastic. They're pretty cheap so I recommend playing through them if you want. Ico HD, Shadow of the Colossus HD are also some really good remakes.

I did not personally enjoy Watch Dogs, Deadpool or Dante's Inferno. I really wouldn't recommend them. I've played most WWE games, and while I haven't tried WWE 2K15, most people agree that it's inferior to 2K14, since it's just a butchered version of the PS4 release. If you enjoy it good for you, but I won't be playing it until I get a PS4.

Let's see, what else... I've never played the Metal Gear Solid games, but I've always wanted to. Those sound like great games if you have the time. God of War Saga is a collection of 5 great games. I haven't played the 6th installment yet, but it's on my list as well.

Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire are some great games to check out as well. I also personally enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man, Prince of Persia and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but they've all gotten lukewarm reviews. It really depends on taste.

u/ProjectDestati · 2 pointsr/KingdomHearts

It's not hard for a newcomer to start into the series--there are currently 10 stories to experience (9 console games, and a mobile phone game that's been made into a movie). Everyone sort of talks about how complicated the story is, but really, the series isn't as complicated as newcomers like to joke :) It's just that it was hard to play them all from 2002-2012 when they were spread out across different platforms, and skipping out on one of the games essentially meant skipping out on a story that drove the overall plot forward. But now that they're all remastered as PS4 bundles, it should be fairly easy for fans old and new to catch up with the overarching story before KH3 is released.

---

What makes the series fun is how deep the lore goes. If you want to start the series with a PS4, you should wait for the $50 "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix", a collection of the first six remastered titles that'll be released on March 28. Afterward, if you enjoy the games, KH2.8 contains the final three. If you happen to get a hold of a PS3 and you don't want to wait, the $17 "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix" collection contains the first two games of the series (Kingdom Hearts and the sequel KH: Chain of Memories) and a movie for the third (Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days).

u/BlazyNights · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

I recommend release order and staying away from the botched NES release and it's 500% non-canon non-Kojima sequel.

The way I recommend playing Metal Gear (not solid) 1 & 2 is disc 2 of MGS3 Subsistence, it has both of them on there and iirc, it's the first official English release of MG2. I was able to emulate the two of them fine on a PS2 emulator, even taking advantage of save states (MG1 has some pretty terrible one way elevators). I'm not 100% sure, but I think the HD versions of MGS 3 have this included.

You're going to need a PS3 and you might as well pick up the Legacy Collection (not the HD collection), it's got most of the games including MGS1 and MGS4 and it sells for about $25, it's an amazing value for some of the best games ever made. The canon PSP games that it leaves out aren't really worth it.

Peace Walker is one of my favorites, make sure to play the PS3 version over the PSP version, you'll get better controls and a much better framerate.

If you liked Metal Gear 1 & 2 and want more 2D action, Ghost Babel (released as "Metal Gear Solid" in the US) is a Game Boy Color game that is visually stunning in motion for the platform, it's non-canon

u/NO_Its_My_Juice · 9 pointsr/metalgearsolid

Play then in release order:

Metal Gear

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (It’s debatable whether you need to play MG 1 and 2, but if you don’t, you need to watch some gameplay)

Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (some consider this non-canon as it wasn’t directed by HK but it doesn’t affect the overall story if you consider it canon)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (same situation as Portable Ops, it’s amazing though so play it)

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The best way to play the entire series is to pick up a PlayStation 3, as you can play every
main series game on that beautiful console.

Metal Gear 1-2, MGS 1-4 and MGS: Peace Walker are in the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KTZELMY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_z.6kDb96JQQGV

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006T960GE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ua7kDbY6WFGGZ

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GRMMQDY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2b7kDbXDMPPP2

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0146JO2AO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ic7kDb0G2ZD39

Portable Ops is only on PSP and hasn’t been ported to consoles which kind of tells you how Konami and HK see that game...

Aside from the mainline canon games there’s:

Metal Gear (NES)

Snake’s Revenge (NES)

Metal Gear: Ghost Babel (GameBoy Color)

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube) [This is actually canon, it’s just a remake of MGS1]

Metal Gear Ac!d (PSP)

Metal Gear Ac!d 2 (PSP)

Metal Gear Survive (PS4/Xbox One)

Play the games in the order I stated. Don’t read anything about them. Don’t read reviews. Don’t look at the wiki to try to make sense of confusing things like I did. Just experience the twists and revelations as they happen. Enjoy. ✌️

  1. Depends on which model you got but the online/store bundles are generally the same

  2. I believe that Final Fantasy 13 is considered to run better (I think). There might be other games, but I don't really know.

  3. The inFamous Collection has downloadable DLC and an extra downloadable 'game.' Metal Gear Solid Legacy Edition has the original PS1 game (MGS 1) as a downloadable code off of PSN. Those are the 2 cases I know where the DLC is downloadable, but I'm pretty sure this applies to all GOTY verssions of games.

  4. It depends on which state you live in (if you live in the US). Do a Google search for your state with 'PSN tax' or something similar.

  5. If you end up buying PS+, you'll find yourself downloading a ton of games pretty quickly. If thats the case, you would probably need to get a new hard drive (a 1TB drive off of Amazon would be most convenient). If you don't get PS+, and don't plan to store music/movies/photos on the machine, of course you won't need it.

  6. If you buy a PS2 game off of the PSN store, it will handle saves on its own. However, if you insert a PS1 disc that you may have, or if you bought a PS1 game off of the PSN store, you'll have to manually install a 'Virtual Memory Card' in the Game Menu on the XMB. Side note, every PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 discs so if you have a PS1 disc that you want to play put it in.

  7. PS3s are mostly region free (except for a handful of Japanese games). If you want DLC, the PSN account that you use has to match the region the game is from.
For example, I live in the US. If I were to buy a game from England, and I want to buy DLC for it, I would have to create an EU or British account just for the DLC for that game despite the fact that my PS3 and the IP address for my internet is American. Since you said you live in Australia (at least thats what it seems), and the bundle is off of the US Amazon site, you would have to buy the DLC for infamous and uncharted 1+2 off of the US PSN.

  8. If you want to get good deals, go to /r/GameDeals for good discounts. Generally, that subreddit focuses on PC games, but occasionally they'll have some good deals on console games as well.
u/Noctis_Fox · 1 pointr/metalgearsolid
>but I think watching all the cutscenes online for the games leading up to it should work, right?

Haha, get ready to sit down for a week to watch it all. There are dozens of hours of cutscenes and codec calls. The games prior to V are mostly cutscenes.

The problem here is Kingdom Hearts story wasn't exactly good. It was a mess and it wasn't complicated so it was generally easy to follow. Going into this with just cutscenes will be quite confusing because the game regularly talks about events on a 50 year time line (1964 - 2014).

Save yourself the trouble, get a PS3 if you don't have one, get The Legacy Collection for 25$ on Amazon, and enjoy some of the best titles gaming has to offer. You'll have a better grasp of the story and you'll understand how the games evolved since 1987 (although you can start with the 1998 release Metal Gear Solid, skipping Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.)

You play the games by release order, obviously that's how it's intended to be.

The title's you be playing are:

Game | Release Year | Timeline | Necessary Play?
-- | :-- | :-- | :--
Metal Gear | 1987 | 1995 | No
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake | 1991 | 1999 | No
Metal Gear Solid | 1998 | 2005 | Yes
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Substance) | 2001 | 2007-2009 | Yes
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Subsistence) | 2004 | 1964 | Yes
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops | 2006 | 1970 | No (although watch the cutscenes, it ties into Snake Eater)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots | 2008 | 2014 | Yes
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker | 2010 | 1974 | Yes
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes | 2014 | 1975 | Yes
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | 2015 | 1984 | Yes

There have been a lot of Kingdom Hearts games that have come out since Kingdom Hearts 1 came out in 2002. There's been the first game, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts Coded, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A fragmentary passage.

The collections are the newest versions of these games. Kingdom Hearts 1.5, Kingdom Hearts 2.5, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 are the collections. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 is just both of those two collections on a single disc, but made for the PS4 rather than the PS3.

The cheapest way to get these games is either to get 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 used, or to buy The Story So Far, which is a digital version of all of the collections, which include all of the games so far. It's only $40, and you get six games and three movies (358/2 Days, Re:Coded, and X: Back Cover are all movies). All in One is exactly like The Story So Far, but also includes Kingdom Hearts 3. It's $100, so you don't save any money by getting All in One rather than The Story So Far.

My whole point being that you shouldn't pay more than $40 USD for all of the games prior to Kingdom Hearts 3.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/DarkSouls2

Dark Souls is a sure thing, DkSII is not out yet but I'm sure it will be good. I would put my money on getting the original for cheaper on sale or used. This way you can find out for yourself if you would like paying full price for a sequel. The single player experience is strong on its own and I can promise you the asynchronous multiplayer is not going anywhere because the Demon's Souls community is still active to this day. Heck you can get both Demon's souls and Dark souls for the combined price of roughly $16 used on sale through Amazon. (links provided)

Story wise your probably not missing out on much by playing DkS2 because I think the second game is divorced enough in time. That being said the lore of the first game is amazing. You would definitely missing out on a work of art if you don't play the original Souls games by Hidetaka Miyazaki. Here is a great write up about DkS that I feel you should read.

If you want PS+ with it, absolutely. And you should, since PS+ rotates through some of the best games in the PS3's huge back catalog and offers them for free. I've also found it great for games I wouldn't normally risk the money on that I've turned out to love.

Since you get more out of PS+ the longer you have it, if it interests you, now is the time to get it. The free games you will get between now and any possible PS3 price drop will more than cover the difference.

If you're not interested in PS+, then it comes down to whether it's worth it to you personally to wait for a few months to save $50-100.

I would suggest one of these models, depending on which games interest you. Having a 500gb drive is a big advantage to these models, and the other bundle game (Uncharted 3) has a smaller hard drive... and the game is free on PS+ right now.

If you take the plunge, welcome to the PC + Console lifestyle! I think you'll enjoy your broadened horizons as much as I did :)

*Edit: Added GT 5 bundle, which also has Infamous 2!

You're in luck, in light of the new console generation most the greatest hits available for the PS3 are available for half their original price or less some even available in combo packs.

• Any title from the Ratchet and Clank series. The original trilogy is available on one disk on amazon with remastered HD graphics for $19 as well as All 4 one for ten bucks.

u/Choubugioxkei · 1 pointr/JRPG

is a ps3 all you got? because paper mario is a pretty bright, cheery series, but it's nintendo only, obviously.

ff9 is on psn, and is a pretty happy game, for the most part. i think lunar: silver star story is on psn, too. kingdom hearts lets you play out disney movies, which is pretty happy, and the ps3 remake is $20 on amazon.

u/eileensariot · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I love games! My favorite game is Settlers of Catan right now. I think. Although my guilty pleasure is the sims. shhhhh

I am listing a game from each category that I have on my WL.

  • PS3 game - I really like RPGs. I play fable a lot on xbox360, and this is a game I hear I will like.

  • xbox 360
  • another game I hear I will like if I like Fable.

  • card game - super fun card game that I can play with my hubs, or people who actually come over!

  • PC/MAC - guilty pleasure. ;)

    Thank you for the contest!
u/ArmyDude956 · 4 pointsr/smashbros

There are actually PC ports of both MGS1 and MGS2, but they are pretty dang old.

MGS1

MGS2

However, here's how I recommend doing it.

Get The Twin Snakes for Gamecube. It's a remake of the first one with totally redone cutscenes, redone voice acting, and different music. The music is nowhere near the level of the first one, it just doesn't sound right. But other than the music, I think it's the best version.

Then get the HD collection, if you have a 360 or PS3. This includes HD remakes of MGS2, MGS3, and MGS Peace Walker. Peace Walker was a PSP exclusive before and it's 100x better on console.

I also recommend getting MGS3 on 3DS. It's the best version in my opinion. Use the Circle Pad Pro, though.

You can get MGS4 on PS3 or on PS4 with Sony's PSNow thing, but that's only a rental.

MGS5 Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain are both coming out on PC.

Or you can just get the Legacy collection which has literally every Metal Gear game to 2012, and it includes the HD editions. It doesn't have The Twin Snakes though.

u/azrael6947 · 5 pointsr/gaming

Okay, I'll keep this brief.

You started out good. MGS 3 is the earliest game in the series story wise. On console Ground Zeroes is it's sequel, there is a few handheld titles in between MGS 3 and Ground Zeroes.

In short the story is and SPOILERS-SOMEWHAT in short, about two key groups who endevour to fulfil The Boss' final wish, to have a untied world. The Patriots seek to create this world through control, their enemies seek to create it through freedom.

The Patriots are an example of a shadow government, as they run the USA and control pretty much everything, add WMDs, nanomachines, AI and supersolders as plot points to the entire story, and it makes for one very enjoyable ride.

In their attempts to create the perfect world they embark on a complex cloning program to create the perfect soldier to fullfiil this goal. This is where Solid Snake comes from. Very few characters work directly for The Patriots, many are unknowing agents and the rest are usually unwilling, and are held hostage by some means.

The Metal Gear are a series of bipedial tanks, caipable of launching WMDs from any terrain or fullfilling some over goal such as recon or targeted strikes. In most games the Metal Gear serves as the final boss or close to being the final boss.

In buying Ground Zeroes now you wont miss a hell of a lot, Ocelot appears in it along with Snake. Most of the other characters are from the two handheld games in between MGS3 and MGS5:GZ, those two games are Peace Walker and Portable Ops. You can get every MGS game to date (aside from Portable Ops) in the Legacy Collection: http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B00CTKHXFO

Can't decide, so here are my options! Any of those will be great!

  • PS3: I'd like little big planet 2. I have a young cousin who sometimes comes over and likes to play with me, but I only have "adult" games, so we have to play the demo over and over until she's tired(a.k.a. never).

  • 3DS: Animal Crossing! I keep everyone saying how cool it is, but the only game I got is pokémon.

  • And last but not least... I've been dying to get the Borderlands 2 season pass! I have the physical media for ps3 but Brazilian banks blocked PSN purchases, so my option is the digital code from Amazon. I can't add it to my wishlist because it's a digital code, but there's it ^^^wink ^^^wink

And my favorite game is... good ol' Shadow of the Colussus! I used to play it like there was no tomorrow on my ps2

That's a nice contest OP, thanks for doing it!

This will be the release order for the game and the recommended order to view them. I started playing them from MGS1 and will play MG1 and MG2 at a later date.

Metal Gear 1

Metal Gear 2

Metal Gear Solid 1

Metal Gear Solid 2

Metal Gear Solid 3

Metal Gear Solid 4 with no gameplay

Metal Gear Solid 4 with gameplay

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker short

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker long

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero

Chronologically it goes MG3, MGSPW, MGSGZ, MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, MGS4.

Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain will Happen After Ground Zero.

You could jump into Phantom Pain from what I heard,

"I guess I tried to use what we did in Peace Walker to bring this motivation to Ground Zeroes. Then you might ask, will the people who didn't play Peace Walker be able to understand what is going on in the game. Well because there are 9 years between Ground Zeroes and the beginning of Phantom Pain.

So when the Phantom Pain starts, Snake is in a similar position to the player that is playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time - there is a huge blank that he need to fill in, and he has to figure out what happened during those 9 years as he completes missions. I'm trying to make the game in way that people who are playing MGS for the first time will at some point have a similar understanding and level of motivation to those who have played Peace Walker."

If you'll like to play the games, Metal Gear Solid Legacy comes with all the games I mentiond exept for Ground Zero.

My items - $50 Xbox hard drive and a $40 Kingdom Hearts preorder, which it is possible to gift since it's a physical item!

My favorite person and the person I love most, without a doubt, is my girlfriend /u/MeghanAM. She is smart, talented, funny, loyal, dedicated, devoted, and every positive adjective in between. She adores me with such a sincere tenacity that I never even thought possible, and I adore her just as much. She is so amazing at talking through issues about me, issues about herself, issues about others and the world. She is supportive and loyal in every situation, even ones where she has no stake or doesn't agree for some reason. I don't have any secrets from her which is incredibly liberating and wonderful. She makes me feel worth something, a feeling I've never had before. I love you, honey. You're the best.

I tried to draw her, but I'm a terrible artist. Now the love of my life looks like an awkward transvestite potato :(

I just played the first MGS for the first time ever about 6 months ago. The graphics aren't the greatest but I still thought it was a lot of fun and has aged decently well.

All of the MGS series is heavy on story. If you skip MGS1 I would at least watch a let's play on youtube or a story synopsis.

I would recommend getting the legacy collection and if you find you don't like the first game you can always skip it.

Did you like X-COM from 2012? It plays a good bit like it, so if you enjoyed that style gameplay you'd like VC. It also has some visual novel-like parts that are pretty nice, and has a really good cel-shaded art style. It's a great game, especially since you can pick it up for very cheap.

I don't think you could regret getting a PS3™ system right now, you'll have a great catalog of games available and since PS4™ isn't backwards compatible this is the only way you'll enjoy all those amazing games any time soon.

First of all go here and create your account, then get this PS3 - $200 or this PS3 - $279, and this PlayStation®Plus - $49.99/1 Year ($39.99 with Free BestBuy Reward Zone Gamers Club).

PlayStation®Plus gives you:

  • PlayStation®Plus Instant Game Collection

  • Discounts up to 75% off

  • Cloud Storage to back-up your Game Saves and access them on any PS3™ system

  • Automatic Software Updates and Game Downloads

  • Exclusive Access to try out new Demos and Beta Trials

  • PS4™ Online Mutiplayer

  • One PlayStation®Plus Membership works across PS4™, PS3™ and PSVita™ systems. Your PSN Account can be activated on up to (2) PS3™ and (2) PSP®/PSVita™ systems.

Check the PlayStation®Plus Instant Game Collection here: North America or Europe. The European PlayStation®Plus is more expensive (around $10 more), while EU gets a better Instant Game Collection, but NA gets much better discounts.

You have to "purchase" (for $0.00) the games to add them to your PlayStation®Plus Instant Game Collection when they're available, you can do it on your PC via SEN Store or on your PS3™ via PSN Store.

The games you purchased for free will remain forever on your Instant Game Collection and you'll be able to re-download them as many times as you want, however you can only access your Instant Game Collection while your PlayStation®Plus Membership is active.

Remember to "purchase" even the ones you're not interested now or the PSVita™ ones, you never know when you'll get your hands on one.

Any content you pay money for, even with PlayStation®Plus Discounts, will be yours forever to keep and access regardless of the state of your PlayStation®Plus Membership. Free Avatars and Themes are also yours to keep and access regardless of the state of your PlayStation®Plus Membership.

Here are my favorites:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 (I'd recommend playing all the MGS games before playing 4, though. The first one is available in the PS Store, and the others are available in the HD collection.
  • Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas (If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Fallout 3)
  • Uncharted 2 (All of them are great, but this one is the best, imo)
  • The Last of Us (obligatory)
  • GTA 5 (GTA4 is good too, but 5 blows it away)
  • Bioshock (All of them. Some people don't like 2, but I enjoyed it)

And I'm really enjoying Spec Ops: The Line right now.
u/otis91 · 2 pointsr/GameDeals

I've just recently got into the series (and love every bit of it) so I'll add my opinion.

First of all, definitely buy the HD collection now that it's on sale. It has an incredible amount of content - I've spent approx. 60 hours going through the games for the first time.

However, the HD collection misses the first MGS from 1998. It is available on PSN for approx. $10 and I'd recommend you to get it as well. However - speaking from my experience 5 months ago - beware. The game is old, the controls are hard to get used to, boss fights are tough and some parts can be extremely frustrating. I played on Normal difficulty and it took me about 25 hours to beat. I wanted to quit, watch a walkthrough and skip the rest of the game, several times. But I managed to beat it and it felt great. In the end, I regret nothing. It was incredibly satisfying experience, the story was fantastic and I probably wouldn't enjoy the later games as much had I skipped the first MGS. And the music.... ah, that's something you'll never ever forget.

Still, if you decide to skip it - at least watch it as a movie on YT.

When it comes to MGS4, you should have plenty of time to grab it later on. It's one of the "Greatest Hits" games (similar to Platinum on PS2 but with far nicer packaging in red) and its quite cheap - I got a new one in store for 15 €. Amazon has it for $16.49.

Last but not least, play the games in their release order, i.e.:

  1. MGS (PSN)
  2. MGS 2 (HD Collection)
  3. MGS 3 (HD Collection)
  4. MGS 4 (Retail only)
  5. MGS: PW (HD Collection)

I've finished main story of Peace Walker a few days ago and I already know I'm going to buy PS4 because of MGS V. I fell in love with the series.

1 AM over here, gotta go. Let me know if you have any questions!

Check ebay for used -- best I saw was $11 but with $6 shipping, you're better off getting it NEW from Amazon for $17. If you have Amazon Prime (or you have an a friend or relative that would buy it for you that does, shipping is free. If prices are the same or slightly higher for new, I still go new every time. Best of luck in your hunt.

If you're really interested, then the best possible way to do so is to get Kingdom Hearts 1.5 ($20 on Amazon) & 2.5 (also $20 on amazon) on the PS3. They're HD ports of the Final Mix versions of the games. Buying those two discs will give you 6 out of 7 Kingdom Hearts games. The last one, Kingdom Hearts 3D, will be coming to the PS4 later this year.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions about it or anything. GL HF!

If you can afford it, you can get the Ezio Trilogy for a good bundled price. It has 3 great, if not the best, AC games that follow a single badass protagonist. Keep in mind that the new remastered version is coming out soon, although it hasn't been officially announced.

AC1 is the introduction to the game (the one game before the games in this bundle) so you will miss the introduction to the Creed/Modern Day characters. However the game is (to me) a pretty bad way to be introduced to the game, so I think it's better to fall in love with ACII then go back to relive ACI. Just read/watch a video on the modern day story of ACI if you want to have a better understanding of the going-ons in ACII.

Also, I wouldn't recommend Chronicles, they're a spin-off of the original games (Not to diss them though!). But I think AC: China may be available for free with XBone gold this month so maybe you could look for yourself. Hope this helped

If you have a ps3 id grab the legacy collection its pretty cheap. its the way to play every game (And if your new i might just recommend playing 3 and peace walker then wait for MGS V then play the rest. Metal Gear Solid has six mainline canon installments (technically eight but I'm disregarding the NES games since I don't think they're worth playing and they're both covered in Metal Gear Solid) that spans fifty years and covers the arcs of many characters.

Most the games have some sort of deep narrative that run throughout the entire game but the stories for the most part are very good, albeit a bit convoluted on your first play through. The games sort of flop between very serious story telling and self parody, meaning they never taken themselves too seriously and they're full of little quirks and complete fiction.

The gameplay is fantastic too, the only one I'd say that has aged noticeably is the first one but the second Solid game made massive improvements to gameplay that stayed with the series and was added onto.

It's one of my favorite franchises and Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater are two of my all time favorite games, definitely worth a shot if you haven't already played them. If you have a PS3 then you can get the Legacy Collection which contains all the canon entries except for Phantom Pain but it's on PS3 as well.

Hey mate. I posted this over in another thread, but it's just up your alley. Also of note right now, is that Target has a 2 for $25 sale right now - Of that list I'd recommend Ico/Colossus HD, Twisted Metal, Little Big Planet, and GT5 - I'm not going to include inFAMOUS 2, solely because you can grab the Collection for around $20 if you look for it, but that's the only reason. Also, Target was doing a Buy 2 Get 1 on many titles online (and all titles in-store) but I'm not sure that's still going on.

>In the same boat. Here's the list I've compiled so far, targeting bang-for-buck and PS3/console exclusives mostly, since I already have an extensive PC collection. In no particular order:

Last of Us (this is a no brainer, buy it immediately.)

Heavy Rain

God of War Saga Collection, God of War Ascension

Uncharted Greatest Hits Dual Pack, Uncharted 3

InFAMOUS Collection

Jax and Daxter Collection

The Sly Collection

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix

ICO/Shadow if the Colussus HD Collection

Journey Collector's Edition

Final Fantasy X HD

Tales of Symphonia Chronicle's

Red Dead Redemption GOTY Edition

Capcom Essentials Collection

Little Big Planet 2 Special Edition

Two Worlds

>Everything listed here can be had for less than $30, most around $20, and many of them are 2-5 games per purchase and set you into a franchise.

>If you find Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for around $50, BUY IT. Otherwise, probably best to skip it. Tough series to jump into around 5.

>And whatever you do, get PlayStation Plus immediately. If you buy a year it works out to a few dollars per month (newegg had a year for $40 recently on eBay) and you get 2-3 PS3 games every month, AND you get Vita, PS4, and PSP games. "BUY" THESE TOO! They are free and accessible as long as you have a PS+ account once you "tag" them to your account. If you every buy a PSP, Vita, or PS4 on the cheap you will have an instant and extensive back catalog of games ready to go.

>Oh, and Uncharted 3 is currently free on PS+ but expiring soon!

EDIT: Amazon has the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for $55 ($60 shipped) currently. I thought I had a deal on it for $45, but the reseller cancelled it after I posted it on here saying that had an "inventory error" (they showed they had numerous copies in three of their brick and mortar stores and were out of stock at one, so I find that hard to believe they didn't have at least the copy I ordered - more like they got flooded with 30-40+ orders at once and realized they were selling it pretty far below the going rate.)

On Amazon? Honestly, given the choice, I'd bloody well flip over getting either this Playstation 3 bundle or a 3DS XL. Think the PS3 would be awesome just to get in on some of the great RPG's that they've released exclusively. The 3DS would likewise be awesome for games like Rune Factory 4 and Monster Hunter...^also ^Pokémon

If it's just a pure dreaming type of deal?

This.
F#*king.
Robot.

Only a measly 1.8 million dollars, oh, and it's easy to buy. Says that right there on the website.

u/dangersandwich · 8 pointsr/Games

You can either play them chronologically in the order in which the games were released (I recommend this), or play them chronologically in the order in which the story occurs. Either is fine but definitely do not skip the original Metal Gear Solid.

My recommendation is to buy either:

  • Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for PS2, which contains MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3, then buy MGS4 for the PS3, or

  • The original PS1 Metal Gear Solid + Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection for PS3 which contains MGS2, MGS3, and MGS:PW, then buy MGS4 for the PS3.

I don't know about you, but I find it difficult to start from newer games going into older games because you get "spoiled" by the updated combat mechanics of the newer games, which could make playing the older games more tedious. If you play the older ones first, you'll appreciate the better combat mechanics of the newer games. Having said that, I think that Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Gamecube isn't as clunky as the original since it's a remake. TBQH with you, though, it's probably not as bad as you might think.

I'd recommend the Legacy Collection new off Amazon. I got the one without the artbook for $29.99. I wanted the codes for MGS1 and MGS VR Missions so I could download them to my Vita (MGS1 needs a PS3 to transfer in NA, FYI). Even at that price for the amount of games you're getting, this is a steal. I've only ever beat MGS 1 & 2. MGS1 for PS1 may be hard for someone who's never played it before to get into. If you played action games from the PS1/N64/Dreamcast era though you should be able to pick up and play. Easy mode is pretty damn easy for MGS games (MGS2 even has a "very easy" mode if I'm not mistaken) so if you just want to play and catch up on the story for those games, you can do so with minimal frustration. If you like a challenge, start on Normal and work your way up.

EDIT: $29.99 Canadian, FYI. Looks like it's down to $27.50 now too https://www.amazon.ca/Metal-Gear-Solid-Legacy-Collection/dp/B00KTZELMY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466955575&sr=8-1&keywords=metal+gear+legacy

I don't know if i understood correctly but if you don't know wich games are for each console

On the PS1 you can only play MSG1

On the PS2 you can play MGS2 and 3, and if you have the "Subsistence" version of 3 it also includes the original Metal Gear 1 and 2.

Or you can sell everything and get a PS3 with the Legacy collection wich includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 4 Trophy Edition and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition. It also includes Metal Gear Solid 1 and VR Missions voucher codes.

u/Slivias19 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I would recommend picking up the 1.5 and 2.5 edition of the games for the PS3 rather than the original. Basically those editions compile the Final Mixes of 1 and 2 and also throw in a few of the side-games that contribute to the lore but weren't originally on the playstation platform. The overall story is difficult to follow unless you really sit down and devote yourself to understanding it. I would highly recommend this series regardless.

There is minor slapstick comedy but it isn't very intrusive. The game handles mainly themes about love and friendship.

OMG 100% Little Big Planet. All three are great, but LBP3 the difficulty has a pretty significant uptick. My husband and I play together - I am a gamer and he is most decidedly NOT, but we both find it fun.

1 is oooold, so if you can find it it will be cheap. If you're OK with used, Amazon has loads for less than $10 all in.

A game I do simply adore is Skyrim for PS3. I grew up with a single mom and the only video game love she showed me was the PS1 with games like Spyro and Tony Hawk XD I got addicted to this game when it came out and played on my friend's console. It was so fun, I couldn't believe it when I looked at my phone and 8 hours of my life slipped away. Right, now, I don't have any games like this for my system.

I picked up MGS:V at a pawn shop for 20 bucks recently and instead of playing it I shelved it for now because I have never completed a MGS game before (had a brief experience with MGS3 when someone sold it to me with my first PS2 many many years ago) So I picked up the MGS Legacy collection on amazon for 23 bucks (Link) and played the very first Metal Gear! It was extremely frustrating but surprisingly addicting and fun! I never want to hear the soundtrack again but now I'm on to Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and excited to start Metal Gear Solid finally and be able to play the first one on the Vita!

(if someone decides to pick this up because of this post let me save you some frustration, the two MSX Metal Gear games are inside Metal Gear 3 on Disc 2 of the legacy edition)

u/Yokuo · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have a couple of options, depending on how cheap you need me to be.

My first choice is Dragonball Z Season 4!

But if you need something cheaper to hit that $30 mark, Devil May Cry would be awesome :)

Thanks for the contest! I love contests like these!

I believe OP only has the MGS HD collection so he only has MGS 2, 3 and Peace Walker. OP if you're reading this and have a PS3 i highly recommend the MGS legacy Collection.

It has all the games you could possibly need, including the MSX games but they're not required for a playthrough, but just as UsoInSpace said, best play it in release order: 1->2->3->4 and then peace walker since it's the latest one.

u/_VincentWolf_ · 5 pointsr/metalgearsolid

Not the same guy but yeah if you've got a PS3, there's the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy collection. That comes with pretty much every mainline MGS game. Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, and Peace Walker

just like da-man said, grab the Legacy Collection and play the games in chronological order, that'll get you up to speed. Even if you don't have much time, the games themselves are relatively short so you can probably beat each of them in two days if you sit down and really play them. I highly recommend it, it's a great franchise, and the spin-off is great too.

u/OscarExplosion · 14 pointsr/patientgamers

Just get the Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection and you will be pretty good to go.

Play them in order of release. Meaning:

Metal Gear Solid 1

Metal Gear Solid 2

Metal Gear Solid 3

Metal Gear Solid 4

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (This you will have to get separately)

u/bubblegumtrees · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Dang girl

Do you own any of the Supernatural seasons yet? If not, the first season is $22, for instance. You should buy your favorite seasons!

As far as video games are concerned, I'd recommend buying Uncharted 2, the new Tomb Raider, and Heavy Rain. These games are all super pretty and fun in very different ways.

u/Bakefy · 1 pointr/PS3

I am going against what everyone else is saying here...
But LBP 1 first. Play the hell out of it, then buy 2.

LBP is 17 dollars. amazon link

LBP 1 might be my favorite game of all time. The music, the levels, the introduction to gameplay... its just amazing.

LBP 2 is still an awesome game, and there is more to it. So it can do everything 1 can do, plus much much more.

I still can not get over how beautiful the levels are in 1. The soundtrack just makes my day.

Eventually you will beat the levels that media molecule made and you will be left with the endless user created levels. With that mindset, LBP 2 will let you play levels created for both 1 and 2. I still don't want you to miss out on the origins.

If you have a PS3, definitely grab the original trilogy first, as it's a scant 30 bucks on Amazon and has what fans call 2 of the best games in the series.

In terms of order, go for 2 (Going Commando), then 3 (Up Your Arsenal), then 1 (Original), as the second game does a very good job summing up the first game while having much more enjoyable gameplay to start off with.

Thanks for the 1.21 Gigawatts powered contest.

My plans: I spent today trimming the trees in my front yard, this required saws and ladders and was generally a royal pain in the ass. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do it on account of the weather, but of course after 20 consecutive days of rain, it stayed clear and dry. I am quite glad it's over. Tomorrow our neighbor is having a birthday party so beer, bbq and bounce houses will be prominently involved.

This game would be pretty rad.

u/ranatalus · 1 pointr/news

It's definitely a good game, and belongs in the series. Purists feel like it's a far departure from the others, though. I enjoyed it.

Your best bet would probably be to get MGS Legacy Collection, which includes HD remakes of MGS 2 and 3, plus MGS4. If you can find an unopened one, it also includes PSN codes for downloads of MGS 1 and MGS 1: VR Missions

u/watsoned · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Kind of depends. $150 to fix my 80GB PS3 (that I was told was a 160Gb or whatever they offer). Or I can suck it up and get this for not quite $300. Not only will I get a game, but I'll get a bigger hard drive and an actual warranty.

So it's kind of...do I want to spend the smaller amount and hope that I don't have any other issues with it or do I want to save up even more (I don't have $150 OR $300 on hand right now so this is all an eventual thing) to get an upgrade.

u/brash · 5 pointsr/PlayStationPlus

I recommend you to start with this, if you have access to a PS3: Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection

The story is a huge part of MGS and starting with 5 could be quite confusing. I suggest that you play at least MGS3 and Peacewalker first. The events from MGS Ground Zeroes and therefore MGS 5 connect directly to these two games.

If you want to play all games in the chronological order: MGS 3, MGS Peacewalker, MGS Ground Zeroes, MGS 5, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS, MGS 2, MGS 4 (There are more games in the series, but these are the main ones. Also, I'm not saying, that this is the best way to play the games, but one possible way.)

u/TriplePlay2425 · 1 pointr/gaming

http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B00CTKHXFO

It's MGS2, 3, 4, and Peace Walker bundled on the disc. It is the same HD remakes as the ones on the MGS HD Collection that they released a while back, but this includes MGS4 (which is the same as the normal version of MGS4). They also give you a PSN download code for MGS1 (and the MGS VR Missions), which is not an HD remake or anything. It also has Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 that you may access from MGS3's menu. I think it comes with some bonus material like an art book and stuff like that.

Note: this is available for PS3-only though, since MGS4 has not been re-made for any other platforms.

u/Non_Causa_Pro_Causa · 66 pointsr/Games

I love Metal Gear... and I already have two collections:

Metal Gear: The Essential Collection released in 2008 (this one was criticized by some for not including the Gamecube remake, but rather including a PS1 disk)

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection released 2011 (again avoids any remake of MGS1 or GCN port, also leaves out Portable Ops: is basically MSG2, 3, and Peace Walker)

Is this a new thing? Release a random collection of MG games every 3 years? If there's an HD remake of the original Metal Gear (a la, the project they shut down) and MG2.. along with a port/remake of the GCN version - that would be worthwhile I guess.

If it's HD-collection redux with slightly "more HD" versions of the previous games....? I can't see them having done proper remakes in this time frame. Previous HD collection + Ground Zeroes? Same issue.

u/mxwlln · 2 pointsr/PS4

As stated before, your best bet if you don't have a PS3 is to check if the HD collection is available for PS Now, and if you're willing to pay the price and if your connection is good, you're set.

There are two collections available for the PS3, though.

  • HD Collection: Includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS2 HD, MGS3 HD, MGS Peace Walker HD
  • Legacy Collection: Includes all the above + MGS4 + download code for MGS1 and MGS VR Missions if you buy it new + some artwork that I don't care for but a lot of people do so you might like it.

For anyone else reading who had a similar question, my choice would be Legacy Collection since it's $43 on Amazon right now. I personally don't care for MGS4 or the Ashley Wood artbook that's included but for everything that you get, it's a good deal.

    EDIT: A word or two.
u/spyder256 · 6 pointsr/patientgamers

Ratchet and Clank. The entire series. I love these games, they're completely awesome. Definitely check them out, you won't regret it.

Start with the Ratchet & Clank Collection for the first 3 games and just go from there.

Then check out Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper after that.

DMC 1-3 had a PS3 HD remake. Devil May Cry HD Collection I'd loook for that instead of the PS2 versions, just because they're remastered and will look better.

The special editions have some more playable characters and a few other features. Notably in DMC3 you can play as Virgil. It was tons of fun. DMC4 SE let's you play as Vergil, too. Since you're not aware of the story I won't tell you who Vergil is lol

There's actually 2 games before Metal Gear Solid itself, titled Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.

I assume that what you're saying is you can source for the other metal gear titles individually and haven't actually bought or played them yet.

You can still find the original PC game on amazon used here

However you're in luck that the legacy edition for PS3 has been announced and is coming in July which collects the original Metal Gear up to Peacewalker Here

There's more in the series that you can find under the metal gear wikipedia article (metal gear acid, rising and some versions that came out on handheld devices)

u/EagleXC13 · 2 pointsr/Games

Grab KH 1.5 and keep an eye out for KH 2.5. Both are graphical improvements of the Final Mix games on the PS3, with some added scenes and other fun stuff.

Prototype is similar to Infamous with the open world fantasy stuff. You should probably check out the Uncharted Series, as I think you can get the first two for dirt cheap in a bundle. I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII (don't know how popular that opinion is): it is a really really pretty game with a decent story and a fun combat system.

u/aquabluesharpie · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Alrighty, here's my entry. Went with a maroon-ish color, hope that counts as red. :3

u/LunchpaiI · 1 pointr/halo

MGS HD collection is pretty much textbook on how not to make an HD collection. It comes with 2+3 and then a remaster of a handheld game. While Peacewalker is great, the reasons behind why they chose that and not MGS1 are forever a mystery. For a series with such an unorganized chronology, the MGS: HD Collection isn't exactly the most ideal way to get into the series.

The Legacy Collection coming out in July comes with all the titles. However only the ones included in the original HD collection are remade for HD. They give you a redeemable code for MGS 1 on the PSN Marketplace and it's just the game from 1998. I really don't know why they didn't remake every single game in HD. There is most definitely a demand for it, and they know there is too; otherwise they wouldn't be coming out with this collection.

Sorry if I'm ranting here, I'm just a little pissed at how Kojima did his Metal Gear collections.

u/NJBilbo · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Well you can't go wrong with any of the LEGO games. I've recently been replaying LEGO Star Wars: the Complete Saga on my PS3 (even if its about to be "incomplete"!!!!). I've also really loved playing Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2 since it not only let's you play as Mickey Mouse, but I love the idea of a shattered, dystopian vision of everything Disney...something hardcore Disney nuts like me should hate! It's the same feeling I had when I played Kingdom Hearts once upon a time, which is why I can't wait for this to com out since I can't play the originals on my busted PS2 and won't be getting a PS4 anytime soon either :(

Yes. There are a few other games like Portable Ops, and Metal Gear 1 and 2 (Not Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, Metal Gear 1 and 2, the ones for the MSX2 console). But it's not 100% vital you play those and besides they aren't made for the PS3 or PS4. And you'll need a PS2 to play

Getting the Metal Gear Solid HD collection for PS3 gets you everything except MGS4.

u/Shockum · 1 pointr/gaming

The revamped graphics make things sharper and cutscenes just look great, one could say "movie-esque". Here's an old comparison video. I didn't notice that much difference in MGS, like I did in MGS2.

Gameplay was still the same from before.

Just to be clear, the collection I'm referring to is the Legacy not the HD Collection.

If anything, I'd recommend the Legacy pack. Sure, it's the HD Collection (for the most part). But, it adds in MGS4, MGS, MGS VR Missions. At $50, it's a steal.

u/Stendal · 1 pointr/KingdomHearts

If you buy The Story So Far, you get every game that's not KH3 represented in some way. It's a pretty good value as you get five games, one smaller game/tech demo, and three movies.

If that's too much, just grab 1.5 + 2.5 Collection. This gives you four games and two movies, and contains KH1 and KH2.

If you're not working with a PS4, you'll need to buy 1.5 and 2.5 separately.

MGS has always come out on PlayStation platforms first. I know the first one is on PC, and there is a remake made specifically for the GameCube but it started first on PlayStation. Xbox didn't get a version of MGS2 until the Substance releases a year or so later. Until the HD collection 3 was also exclusive to PlayStation I believe.

Back when MGS4 was announced, there were technical reasons why the game was exclusive to the PS3, and I think that still holds true today considering there is an "ultimate" HD collection for PS3 that includes MGS4 and just the normal HD collection for 360 and Vita.

Edit: For those of you curious about what collection I'm talking about, it's this one:

Ratchet and Clank

The reason I pick Ratchet and Clank is because when I was younger, I remember my cousin playing it on his ps2. He let me pick a game for him and I chose it for the cool character on the box. So we go home and play it for like a day straight. Next time I'm leaving his house, he hands me fat PS2 with the game that he bought for me becuase I liked it so much. Ratchet and Clank is still my favourite game to date, but I dont have the HD collection for my PS3.

2.5 has not been officially announced, but there have been screenshots that were clearly from KH2 in the KH1.5 promotion materials, and it would make sense to release 2.5 to help people get caught up before KH3 finally releases. It's presumed that 2.5 will include KH2:FM and BBS:FM and the videos from 358/2 Days, but probably not KH:3D since it's fairly new. None of that is officially confirmed, it's just speculation based on what we know about 1.5 and what would "make sense" before 3 comes out.

haha no worries here's the amazon link http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B00CTKHXFO, here's the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid:_The_Legacy_Collection

it's got extra cool shit in it as well, the only thing that's missing is twin snakes which is a bummer but you still get great value with it.

I'm using the Sony brand monitor that was meant for PS3 (but I only ever used it for 360 and PC). I bought it specifically for the ridiculous refresh rate and beautiful screen, its full 1080p with two HDMI ports and amazing 3D (that works on both console and PC).

New, it can run anywhere from 250 to 300, but used it drops down to 150 and above. I highly recommend this!

There's always those PSOne classics on PSN.

Also 2 high profile JRPGs from the PS2 era are getting HD re-releases soon. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix is coming out early Sept and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD is due out before the end of the year. If you pre-order them now you get a free upgrade to the limited edition too!

Ah yeah, thanks for correcting the URL :) They also have an awesome extension for Chrome (and I would assume Firefox) so you can make the notifications right there in amazon's website. It's quite cool. You'll also get the historical data there as well.

Used will always be cheaper because it needs to compete against new. Why by a used product if you can buy new? So you price it less. New can't keep chasing used as you'll just eventually bottom out (ie: shits just free). The used market can't be used to direct prices.

Movies usually make all their money in ticket sales in theaters, the DVD release is just icing on the cake. Unfortunately for games, they don't have theatrical releases. Most games will eventually sit around $20 once they're old enough, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been $20 for ages, same with Resident Evil 4 and even Assassin's Creed II, which comparatively isn't as old as those other games. You can also get Medal of Honor and Dante's Inferno for $20, and I think they're barely 2 years old, perhaps only a year and a half actually (and the list of $20 games goes on and on).

From the Amazon page: The Legacy Collection includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 4 Trophy Edition and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition

Amazon! You can get both 1.5 and 2.5 and have them by Friday if you have Amazon Prime - I got my brother both for the Holidays.

I hope you don't actually walk into video game stores expecting to find anything that isn't Modern Battle of Gran Theft Halo: Black Warfare Ghosts 5.

What's the best way to play MGS 1 in 2014? I don't own an original PlayStation so it's not like I'm about to buy an old copy of that off ebay or something.

I did find this collection though it seems overpriced and isn't sold directly by amazon.

u/Sexy_Shirt · 3 pointsr/Gaming4Gamers

Best thing about PS3 are all these collections. Ranked best (in my opinion).
! The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection
2. inFAMOUS Collection
3. God of War Saga Collection
4. Ratchet & Clank Collection

If you like card based games and have a PS3, the new Kingdom Hearts collection has the remake of the GBA one, RE: Chain of Memories. It's certainly a departure from the series and if you've only played the others it can take a lot of getting used to, but it is a solid game. http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-1-5-Remix-Playstation-3/dp/B008SBZD5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382408949&sr=8-1&keywords=kingdom+hearts+hd

for Metal Gear Solid, you can start with Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on GameCube (will also play on a Wii), then get the Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection on PS3 to play MGS 2, 3 and 4.

EDIT: Oh I just noticed you only have the PS3 and PS2. You'll have to get the PS1 version of MGS on the PSN.

u/neonturts · 1 pointr/PS4

Oh, I thought this was the Playstation TV
It looks like a great choice for its price (24", 3D, 1080p) and it comes with a PS3 game and 3D glasses.

u/EHnter · 1 pointr/AskBattlestations

Err yeah just a regular monitor with speakers.

Basically these two:

Like I said, I’ll probably have a much better set up once I’ve settled in for awhile. But, can anyone even make a makeshift surround sound with those two items. I have are a few audio cables and transceiver for wireless audio.

u/project23 · 1 pointr/PS3

Not sure it applies to your situation, but the Playstation 3d Display allows 2 people to play games (that support the feature) with full screen display using the 3d glasses. Check out this

Ever play the original Bioshock or Bioshock 2? I enjoyed those two just as much as Infinite.

As for digging out your PS2, you can wait until September if you want to play the KH HD 1.5 ReMix. Basically you get to play KH1 and Re:CoM with new abilities, commands, enemies, and new KeyBlades (iirc). Best of all it's been remastered and it's in HD! But it's also worth mentioning that you can watch 358/2 days as a movie which has also been remastered (and given additional cutscenes I believe). Oh and there's Trophy support. They're doing this for KH 2 as well and it's been hinted at somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it. They're going to release a KH 2.5 HD ReMix with KH 2, Re:Coded, and Birth By Sleep. Unfortunately Dream Drop Distance will still have to be purchased for the 3DS if you intend on playing it as it's not expected to be part of the 2.5 bundle. After this is released, KH 3 is expected next.

The same promotion applies to Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix as well:

I don't think so, in July the Metal Gear Solid Legacy collection is going to be released that includes MGS 1,2,3,4, Peace Walker, VR missions, and the original Metal Gear 1 and 2 for $50. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck and can experience the entire story.

I'm not going to recommend multiplatform games as I'm unsure of whether or not you have a 360/Wii/etc.

  1. Valkyria Chronicles - (Mostly) Turn-based strategy game, with RPG elements. Gets pretty hard (at least for me) decently long.

  2. Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection - Pretty much every canon Metal Gear game. Stealth-Action at it's finest with an insane story and cast of characters. Includes the HD remasters of MGS2 and 3.

  3. Yakuza 4 - RPG/Brawler set in a fictionalized Kabukichō (a well known Red light district in Tokyo). You can spend your time cracking skulls, doing random favors for people, playing mahjong, or chatting it up with a hostess.

$43 on Amazon. Even cheaper on the marketplace. $50 at Gamestop. Not doubting you, but I don't think I've ever seen it go for $100. Maybe they started producing more copies after they noticed a demand, kind like like Xenoblade Chronicles? I don't know.

The idea that sony sets the price at $299 is a half truth. The market sets the price. I bought mine for $284 on amazon (now $277:. Oddly enough the newer model, which comes with ACIII and 500gb HDD is cheaper than older models with smaller HDD/no free game.

u/infestedjoker · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I wish we would get this Collection instead since the 360 never got mgs4 and was the reason why i owned a ps3 last gen cause i am a huge MGS fan.

u/EZFlash3in1 · 1 pointr/4kTV

Again can you please go into to any detail? I don't much care for picture quality unless it's like OLED or something, why would this look significantly worse than other LED tvs? Is it not actually 4k or something? And how would it work for gaming?

again i'm upgrading from this thing https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3D-display-3/dp/B0050SZ49Y how would they compare? a TCL or Vizio is outside of my budget range. In your opinion what are the best 4k TVs of atleast 40 inches I could get for 400$ canadian or less?
