For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
I sold my Launch Bundle a few weeks ago in anticipation of the Skyrim Bundle. A part of me wishes I had kept the old one. I'm gonna do this bit of random thoughts and comparisons in bullet-point form:
All of these little tidbits were based on about an hour of gameplay. I did not enjoy Skyrim as much as I thought based on all the praise in here, but I think I'm just annoyed by not having smooth turn. Finger's crossed they add it in an update at some point.
Having a long micro usb cable to keep a wireless controller charged is a good call (though you need to keep your system in standby if that is where you charge from)
However, i would recommend getting a second controller (some good couch co-op games this gen) and a dock like this: http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411572210&sr=8-1&keywords=ds4+dock
and then just swap controllers when one dies.
There are a bunch of free-to-play games now, so you might have things to play before you start paying $60 for AAA games (I got into warframe for a while, but it is confusing to start). Also, a lot of cheaper ($10-20) indies too.
Of course i'd recommend paying the $30-$40/yr for PS+ (it should hit $30 on black friday, but you can find $40 every now and then. Normal price is $50/yr) you probably got a free one month card with your console, keep an eye out for the cheaper sales (this subreddit seems good for that) subscription stack. So if you can go until november, grab a couple for cheap then.
PS+ includes a bunch of free games every month, and further discounts on others. Of course the PS4 games are there (2 per month) but often times the vita or PS3 games might be on multiple systems and are "cross buy" or buy once play on any system. Also, go on a computer and "buy" all of the available games each month. It doesn't cost anything and sometimes a PS4 version of the game comes out later and is "free" if you had grabbed the other version when it was available. (happened recently with hotline miami.)
The camera accessory isn't necessary yet, don't worry about it.
A vita is a pretty great system on it's own, but it is really great paired with a PS4. You can remote play the system, leaving the TV open for other folks. This can work on the same network, but also from far away too (I've done it between NYC and Chicago but there was some noticeable delay, great for some games, not great for others (shooters)).
There are a bunch of great subreddits for various games (or trophy hunting, or finding PSN friends) so check those out.
Personally i'm just playing destiny now, but there is already a huge catalog of great games. Just don't listen to the nobs who complain about all the indies. They are some of my favorite games and they certainly aren't slowing down big games like Destiny, but you hear about it a lot on subs like this.
These are solid. I don’t know about the linked one specifically, but stands that charge controllers and offer a ventilation fan are excellent and not that expensive. Do some looking around and you can probably find one better and/or cheaper than the one linked. It keeps a lot of things easily managed which is nice. I’d recommend adding some shelves that can hold games if you do physical discs rather than digital purchases. As for the screen, if he plays with friends I strongly recommend getting a 27” that is not curved. If he plays by himself only on the console, 22-24” would be fine and curved or not would be based on your budget.
Most 120hz TV's are really 60hz displays with software that makes it look smoother. Many TV's come with a game mode that disables the software because it adds input lag. Also look out for input lag in TV's. Some brands tend to have a higher input lag but generally Sony, Samsung, LG, and Vizio are pretty good.
I'd definitely pick a 1080p display over a 720p one. Even though a few games like assassins creed unity output at 900p the ps4 will scale it up to 1080p and there is a very noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p.
If you have kids or need to be quiet at night pick up a pair of headphones. They can plug right into your controller and the games audio will go through them. If online will be your thing skip the headphones and pick up a headset. Sony's gold wireless headset is a pretty good one and should be on sale either right now or by Monday. No cooling fans will be necessary but make sure you have a spot set up that gives your ps4 enough room. If you're picking up a second controller consider picking up a charging station that plugs into an outlet. I have the nyko one and it has been great so far but I've also heard really good things about the power A one. If you're not getting a second controller don't worry about buying a dock. I don't own the PS camera or a sound bar/sorround sound system so I can't really help there.
Here's a few TV's that an input lag website recommends for gaming: http://www.displaylag.com/best-hdtvs-gaming-2014-introduction/

Edit: Target has the gold wireless headset for $40. The deal is for in store only.
you'll want a second controller with a stand-alone charger like this: http://amzn.com/B00ENFVJJO. battery life is super short on PS4 controller and this will help him play if he forgets to charge one controller.
second: you'll want to replace the stock headset with something affordable like this: http://amzn.com/B006PP3ZK6 headset that comes with ps4 is not good. not good at all.
third: give him subscription to PS+. it is a similar service to xbox subscription. it will allow him to play online.
sounds like your kid likes sports games. Playstation has the single best baseball game ever made called "MLB the show" keep an eye out for it. it is very very good game. even many non-sports game players play it.
My reply is certainly going to reak of "sony apologist/asshole". That is not my intention.
Your biggest problem with the DS4 is the battery life, and even though you play it 3 hours a day (based on your post) you can't be bothered to do something extremely easy to fix it? Charging the controller is easy to do man, just plug the thing in...how hard is that? It takes you less time to plug the controller in than it does for the PS4 to turn on!
In all seriousness I do agree with you on finding plugging things into the stupid cables every single time you touch them to be annoying. You know those memes about "I plugged in the usb cable...and it was facing the right way on the first try....winning!" That is a real thing. But why? Back in the day the only device commonly found in the house that was used every day that had a rechargeable battery was our home phone. These always had a desktop cradle charger. Can you imagine a cordless phone where you had to charge it by plugging it with a cord all the time? And let's not forget how shitty those nicad batteries were...I kid you not, there are people who made their fortune on selling those stupid things in a retail store, having to be replaced every 6 weeks, people buying the wrong ones, or heaven forbid if you had the audacity to not follow the impossible charge/discharge practices they recommended.
Thankfully, battery technology really improved, but unfortunately the GOOD thing about that era (the cradle charger) went the way of the dinosaur and for some reason (profit) companies stopped including them.
The cradle charger suddenly became a "premium" ie: overpriced accessory. I remember the last cellphone I purchased that came with a cradle charger. This was over 10 years ago, in the era before phones even had color screens.
What I'm trying to say here is a cradle charger is the way to go, and there are multiple options for PS4. Here are just a few:
This is the one I personally have. It works great! I have 3 controllers, and it comes with 2 of the little attachments that go on the controller to charge it. Nyko sent me another 2 for free when I asked them.
http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-PlayStation-4/dp/B00FLLFJ68/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422371016&sr=8-2&keywords=ps4+charger
This is another very popular one, it is very commonly recommended on reddit. It doesn't require any adapters to be connected to the DS4 since it uses the extension port to charge.
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422371016&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+charger&pebp=1422371073104&peasin=B00ENFVJJO
There are other options, but most of the other options work by the charger physically plugging in to the micro-usb port on the top of the controller and hanging from it, which seems problematic to me. The 1990's style cradle is where it's at! The Nyko one is the closest thing to that style. And no, the little adapters that let it dock do NOT interfere with the operation at all, it's very small and you don't even know it is connected. Because everyone asks this (completely unnecessarily, as every lithium ion based charger behaves this way) yes, it will automatically stop charging the controller when the battery is fully charged.
There's even another style that connects directly to the PS4, if you are wanting to keep the controllers near the PS4 itself. Although personally, I think it makes much more sense for the controllers to be stored where they are used...ya know, on the couch. But I literally have not touched my PS4 since I purchased it, since I am (obviously) one of those people who only buy digital games, because damn, why should I have to swap a disc just because I want to play a different game?
http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Modular-Charge-Station-White-PlayStation/dp/B00MUTASR4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1422371016&sr=8-13&keywords=ps4+charger
Why did I post all of this, especially with the assholery beginning? Because so many people just love to complain about every little thing they don't like, when there are a multitude of products available to make all their woes go away. Even if the DS4 had 24 hours of battery life, if they wanted to not buy a charger for it, they'd still be messing with that stupid USB charging cord eventually...which is a crime against humanity.
Spent $20, and you can be a smug asshole who is much happier in life, thanks to having one less usb cord to have to plug in.
(PS: If your phone supports wireless charging, buy a few of those chargers for your cellphone...and if it doesn't, make sure your next cellphone does!) The only time I plug my phone into ANYTHING is when I flash a new rom to it. Charging is as simple as setting it down on the charger, it synchronizes data (such as music/pictures) over wifi, and earphones are bluetooth. They call it a wireless phone...right?
Modern consumer electronics used without wires...will make you a happier person. Your thinning hair will grow back, your penis will become longer, your belly fat will get smaller, you will get a promotion at work without even asking for it, your children will do their chores without complaining, your mortgage company will approve your refinance, and you will get the bonus onion ring every time you purchase french fries.
Comcast will still give you shitty service...but hey, this new way of life can't work miracles or anything.
here ... i dont own/use controller but a friend of mine just got these and was happy like a kid getting candy XD

its an extended battery + wireless charging station (you only need to put them in the station with the battery on it so no more cables)
Don't. Get this instead: http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
I have this, and as I and all the other positive reviewers can attest to; it's great. Looks good, performs well, super affordable, and is the best rated.
PowerA Charging Station - 2 controllers, not little kid friendly, as it has a spring to load/unload the controller and kids will just pull it off. If the spring is in the incorrect position, it can be difficult to put the controller on charge.
Collective Minds PSVR Stand and Charging Station - 2 controllers, 2 move controllers, and 1 USB slot for headset or PSVR AIM controller.
PlayStation Platinum Headset - Went through 2 PS Gold headsets due to weak plastic frame. Platinums feel more sturdy. Haven't used too much to test durability. Great sound, but I am not an audiophobe.
PSVR AIM Controller - Got it bundled with Firewatch. Read that it felt good in hands. I thought it felt a little awkward, but definitely easy enough to use. Just have to get used to the button layout.
AC Infinity Fans - These are 80mm fans. It comes with 2 fans in parallel that are powered over USB. I don't use my PS4's USBs, because those are taken up with other accessories, so I have it attached to my surround sound receiver. One fan pulling air from the back of the Pro, and the other directing the fan out of the shelf area. I recommend these, as I've noticed the spin up on my Pro has significantly went down.
I know it doesn't fix your problem but I picked up this dock and I love it
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ENFVJJO/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?pc_redir=T1
It just plugs into any wall outlet. Plus it looks nice enough that I can leave it on the entertainment center and not worry about hiding the controllers. You can even "rest" the controllers on top without clicking them in to charge.
I tend to stick to Nyko charging docks for all our consoles - well designed and reliable. For our PS4 Pro I originally got the Nyko DS4 Charging Block: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H1WR47G/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
When we got the PSVR I added a block for the Move controllers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WVJ1VHR/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They all lock together as one unit with a single power cord. I looked at but didn’t like the tower options. I wanted to keep my headset protected and dust free when I’m not using it so opted for this case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LB4KHF6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The case is great - drop the headset and close the cover. No need to unplug anything because it closes nice band snug without bothering with the zipper.
The Sony Gold Wireless Headset. It's amazing. One of the best headsets out there for the PS4. Make sure to download the companion app from the PSN Store. I believe the black set is $80. The white set still sells for $100. But watch for this item to appear on Amazon's Warehouse page. I got the whites refurbished for $85. They match my white PS4 nicely.
I use this controller charger. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ENFVJJO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Works really well. Both of my controllers are always ready for me.
Best Play Station 4 purchase I've bought is modular charging station I don't have to mess with the micro USB wires anymore. You just plug in a small clip that goes on the charging port of the controller, plug in the base into the 2 usb charger ports on the ps4. There is 2 slots and all you do to charge the controllers is set them on top of the port. The front base has 2 lights that turn on (depending on which slot you set controller on) that lets you know it's charging.
The only down side is you can't game and charge at the same time. Just buy 2 controllers and switch them out.
I've had 'em since a month or two after ps4 release and they work great. I need something like that for my phone.
An extra dualshock 4 is a must. Always nice to have a spare. I prefer a charging stand over a cable (i only use the cable to sync my controllers), and a vertical stand. Also a Vita is a must have but you can always get one later.
Controller. (White looks best imo)

Charge base: (Theres a white one coming soon)

Matching white vertical stand:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Computer-Entertainment-Vertical-Stand-PlayStation/dp/B00MI4Y3W2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409771405&sr=8-1&keywords=white+ps4+vertical+stand
Sexy white vita to match ps4:
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Vita-Wi-Fi-Light-White-PCH-2000ZA14/dp/B00F27JDY0/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1409771573&sr=1-3&keywords=white+ps+vita
Also some Astro A40s and you're all set!
Not sure if your heart is set on keeping that controller charger, but if not you could pick up something like this: http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO They're affordable and it could be a more convenient setup.
Doesn't have to physically connect to the PS4, just to a wall outlet or other available USB outlet. That way you can keep your controllers on the end table or something and have your PS4's USB ports available.
If you do want to keep using that thing, nevermind and good luck.
I would recommend picking up the cradle style Dualshock 4 charger. Its pretty convenient, especially if you have 2 controllers. I found it on Amazon for $22. I think its pretty good value. heres a link. http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
must have games: Infamous, Killzone (because it's cheap and the graphics are amazing), Watchdogs (because the game is awesome).
Must have apps: netflix and ign
Must have accessories: the official sony DS4 controller charging. http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
I dont know how much you're willing to spend, but you should also eventually upgrade the hard drive in your PS4 to 1TB-2TB. it's very easy and it can cost to about $100.
also buy PS plus. you need it to play online and you get 2 free games every month from sony. It's worth your money,
Get the PS4 charging dock http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
It's $17 (which isn't too bad) but you'll always have a place to put your controller when you're done playing and it'll keep them charged...you wont ever have to worry about battery life or keep the controller tethered to the system
What kind of games are you interested in? I could give you some recommendations. PS+ is a must-have for online play and is well worth it for the free games.
Folks, this charging dock is probably the best one on the market. Trust me, I got it day 1 and love it.
> Q: is the adaptor universal? or can be use in 110 thru 220v?
> A: Not universal but can be used in 110 true 220v in my country(turkey) we use 220v and i do not have any problem about that. Great product, you should buy it.
From the amazon.com page.
The official Sony charger is not sold in america still. I got the Power A charger and it is fantastic. Could not recommend it enough. Love being able to have them docked and easily swap to another controller when one dies.
They're on sale on Amazon right now, and I know you can find them at Walmart as well.
Good, thankfully it was an easy fix. If you have two controllers, you may look into the Power A Dual Charger, its a great charger and you would not have to use rest mode it just plugs into a wall and charges the controller through a different port. Have had mine 4 years now
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-DualShock-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527340951&sr=1-3&keywords=powera+ps4+charging+station
APC Back-UPS 425VA UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector (BE425M) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDC236Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_cvqhqhXBnvRwa
Its worth the money. I recently bought one because this same crap happened to me. Had to redownload my game and that took about 10hrs. If you already have a power surge protection you can still use that + this to give you some time to log out of the game and save your ps4 from surges. It pays for itself in the long run.
Next is a charging station.
Bestand Charging Station for Playstation 4/Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller, with Dual USB HUB Charger Ports https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LRPX7E2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_LBo56YWhDQHZ8
I still use it religiously and its great. It really is worth the buck.
PDP Energizer PS4 Controller Charger with Rechargeable Lithium Batteries for Two Wireless Controllers Charging Station 051-037, Deluxe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BE767ZO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_aHI6BbSVX6RR9
You definitely need these I’ve had them for a year and there amazing. If you’re a extreme gamer like myself this will keep the controllers charged all day
i'm a big fan of my nyko charging station. they have a newer model but I prefer the one that doesn't require the use of the ps4's usb ports. the ability to simply drop a controller effortlessly onto the cradle and not having to deal with micro usb ports via their little dongle adapter thing is pretty sweet
I have one off these and it's great, I have a 4tb WD red not noticed any diffrence in loading times or anything, makes it look a bit ugly but paired with one of these and its starts to look like th pro lol
Once you toss in shipping, it's the same price as this beauty, which is infinitely better designed.
I know there's store pickup, but it's still worth the extra $4 to get the PowerA dock. It's amazing.
If it's a refurb there's a chance you might be getting first generation controllers. They're fine mechanically except that the thumbsticks were prone to wearing and then splitting and losing their rubber finish. You may want to get brand new controllers, they have a harder plastic finish on the thumbsticks instead of the rubberized plastic.
This is a really nice charging station for controllers:
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458921773&sr=8-1&keywords=ds4+charger
I have it and it works very well. Other than that, save up for PSVR!
Not sure what's wrong (I often use my phone charger to charge the DS4) but it might be worth investing in a charging dock like the Power A since you made a nice shelf for it all.
This is the one that I bought around the time the console was released, and it's the best thing ever. If you'd rather pick it up at a store, I always see these at Best Buy with the rest of the PS4 accessories.
Do yourself a huge favour and pick up the Power A charging station for your second controller. Functional AND cosmetic. I love mine. You won't regret it, trust me.
These work fantastic PDP Energizer PS4 Controller Charger with Rechargeable Lithium Batteries for Two Wireless Controllers Charging Station 051-037, Deluxe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BE767ZO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4x8EDb7FJSYBX
For my usage. Can play all day and let it charge while I sleep
Thanks, my pleasure! Amazon of course!
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Controller-Controllers-DualShock-PlayStation/dp/B071KX7WPH/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
If you have limited space and only 1-2 controllers, I’ve found the Nyko Modular Charge Station to be a good product. The one I have is different than the one pictured in the product listing on Amazon, but still works great.
If you watch Blu-rays or stream movies/TV with your PS, the PDP Bluetooth Enabled Media Remote Control is really nice to have. Sadly, it doesn’t work while playing games, as I had hoped in order to automate my gameplay of Injustice 2.
Grab a charging station like this. The DualShock has a tiny battery and the docking station makes it a little easier to deal with.
I would also recommend a pair of earbuds with a built in mic. I have a high end Turtle Beach headset, but find myself using earbuds almost exclusively because they're more convenient, and the sound quality will be equal to or better than P11.
I agree with the hard drive upgrade too. I went with a 1TB SSHD on launch day, but now that a 2TB option is available, I would seriously consider that too.
I've had my eye on this one and it's in my amazon wish list. I heard it's the best one out there and the reviews back it up.
POWER A DualShock 4 Controller Charging Station for PlayStation 4 by POWER A http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_bgzkub1643DP6
The Insignia DS4 charger from Best Buy. It's trash. It was the only one they had when I bought my PS4. I ordered the PowerA shortly after. It works a lot better.
This is my all time favorite charger. takes up both USB ports but you can unplug it if you need them. You plug a small thing into your controller and leave that in forever. then you just put the controller on the indent and it charges. no plugging things in and out all the time. If you have 2 controllers, one can be always charging and you can switch back and forth if one dies. Makes gaming way more fun when you don't have to plug in and sit super close to the PS4.
Power A Dullshock Controller Charging Station
I purchased this charger from amazon a couple months back, awesome purchase, fair price, oem look.
I know this is not your question, but I would recommend the PowerA charging station. You will not regret it.
As for your wall socket adapter. Anything over 1 A will work ok, I guess.
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
Let's be clear though, the PowerA dock is the best one.
> PowerA DualShock 4 Controller Charging Station for PlayStation 4 by POWER A http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_sAOTub077JZSJ
Dunno about best, but I got this one and love it so far:
http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-PlayStation-4/dp/B00FLLFJ68?ref_=pe_623860_70668520
Basically instead of having to plug the controller in every time, there's a small clip that stays plugged in on the controller all the time, but has a contact point on it that charges it when you settle the controller in the cradle.
This is for you then:
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
Easily the best controller charging station ever made.
I would go with this charging station http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-PlayStation-4/dp/B00FLLFJ68 I have one and it works great and for the headset I actually like the Gold Wireless Headset http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B00HVBPRUO/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1404825848&sr=1-1&keywords=ps4+headset+wireless.
Not sure, but try charging it with your computer or another device that accepts micro-USB (like a cell phone charger).
You can also get a separate charging station, like Power A's or this one, which cools the system and provides an extra USB port.
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Motion-Controllers-Charging-Packaging-4/dp/B07KGLT14B

two moves and charging station 108 bucks, a little steep but best i can see
I recommend this charger because it uses the much more sturdy connector on the bottom of the controller, and by passes the micro-usb. I have one and it's excellent.
https://www.amazon.com/PLAYSTATION-4-DUAL-CHARGING-DOCK/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1501518176&sr=1-3&keywords=POWER+A+DualShock+4
Here's a very highly rated and very inexpensive controller charging station on Amazon
My PS4 controllers die all the time. It's nice to be able to just plug it onto this thing. It has an AC adapter, so it doesn't plug into the playstation.
Also, about Destiny, unless he has a lot of friends that play it, you might want to hold off on it. Lots of people, myself included, felt disappointed in what the game actually turned out to be. If he has a lot of friends that play it on PS4, then it'll be fine. But if he plans on playing it solo, it gets kind of boring and repetitive pretty quickly.
There’s also this pretty cool PSVR charging center for $35 that displays the PSVR, charges two Dualshock controllers and two Move controllers, and has a place to hang your headphones/headset.
The Move controller charge base that I have is the official Playstation one (I actually bought it to charge my DualShock controllers and didn’t know until I received it that they’d repurposed the old Move controller base by including a bit that plugs into your DS — they didn’t even bother changing the PS3 box haha). There are other options out there — this one is half the price of mine at $13.99 that looks like it can charge either the Moves or DualShock (but only two at once). Or this one that charges 2x DS and 2x Move Controller’s for $159.
Good luck with that cat; I feel your pain!!
I picked up a new charger doc made by Sony for $14 earlier this week off Amazon, it's way nicer than having to give up a USB port or two! (Normally $30, still worth it in my opinion! - Sony Move Charging Station with DualShock 4 Adapters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OGPTED4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_rD7qybN4TCZG9)
I think these look like pretty similar products I just use the box that the VR came in to store it though

The officially licensed power-a charger. I was skeptical at first, but it really is amazing. Cheap on Amazon
might not be too helpful, but I've ordered this, which I think looks way better, and is only 30GBP. Not shipping till Feb 24 though, but for others not in a rush, it might be worth the wait.
I use a charging dock and two controllers. I love the dock I got, it's $30 on Amazon.
PowerA DualShock 4 Controller Charging Station for PlayStation 4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_Zpioxb6GFEQHX
Not sure if anyone else has thought of this but just thought I'd share. Greatly reduces the clutter since it moves the two USB ports in the front to the rear and especially if you get shorter cables too.
Nyko Charger:

I'd recommend this charging station: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ENFVJJO?cache=88f8c88ec4fcf86fe1a514f4405b56a7&pi=SX200_QL40&qid=1412432923&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1
It works surprisingly well.
It's for the charging station. I use it so that I don't have to fiddle with plugging/unplugging the controllers. You just click them down and you're good to go, station plugs directly into the wall.
Also, it's cheap. Would highly recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
Alternatively, pick up something like this. I picked up one of these a few weeks ago and love it. My controller is always charged because I just drop it on this thing when I'm done playing. It's not much more expensive than a Micro USB cable, and it's more convenient.
This is what I purchased:
https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Station-DualShock-Adapters-playstation-4/dp/B00OGPTED4/
However, it's exactly the same as the PS3 Move Controller charger except it comes with two adapters for DS4 controllers. In fact, the outer box said it was a PS4 charger, but inside that box were the two DS4 adapters as well as the original PS3 Move charger box. They just put the PS3 branded box inside a PS4 branded box.
This is the best priced charging stand I could find in Canada.
I ended up just buying the official one from amazon.com and had it sent to family currently in USA.
Some prefer DS4. I will only play Moves, while seated. For hours.
>making sure every device is charged
Get a Move charger, like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OGPTED4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
How about something like this for ps4
Or a Texas Roadhouse gift card
I've had that charger for a while, but the cradle part stopped catching when pressed down.
Been using these and these which are great when you have a bunch of controllers (both PS4 and XB1).
But powering the ds4 via micro-usb is not the best idea. They tend to get loose contact. That's why Sony added the power connector at the bottom.
Another nice stand is at amazon uk:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01LZD8V7G
It will be available in 4 weeks and I hope it will be available in Germany as well.
Ya. This is what I am talking about. Love mine.

This is the best one i've seen so far.
I have and love this one.
POWER A DualShock 4 Controller Charging Station for PlayStation 4 by POWER A http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_79Rlub0ST93VB
It still uses a bit of power and the fans still move and push a bit of air while "resting." I shut mine down every time, it really doesn't take any longer for it to start from off than from resting as far as I can tell. It could be handy for charging the controller though. I chose to buy this charging station for $20 and I love it.
For the love of your controller's battery... buy one of these.
I wish I had something like my venom charger for my Vive controllers.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Venom-PlayStation-Twin-Docking-Station/dp/B00SRKXZIE
I got this for that very reason. I know it uses the ports on the front, but it is also handy for charging ... and it looks good too!
I've used this one for over a year now. Great product and very highly reviewed. Also it's officially licensed by Sony.
I bought this one. It is awesome.
I have this one. It is awesome.
http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Modular-Charge-Station-Black-PlayStation/dp/B00MUTAU4A
I have this one. There are microUSB connectors for the controllers with gold contact points and then you just set the controller on the charging station. It works great and fits within the shelf I have the PS4 on.
https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Modular-Charge-Station-Black-PlayStation/dp/B00MUTAU4A/
Or spend the $15-20 on a charging station
Thing is the bomb.
Admittedly I mostly got it to use the "EXT" port on the front of my controllers.
They say Gamestop exclusive, but Amazon has the white version up for preorder as well. http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Modular-Charge-Station-White-PlayStation/dp/B00MUTASR4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408583504&sr=8-1&keywords=nyko+white+modular+station

I've got this one. It seems to help some, but that's just anecdotal. I like the 4 docking/charging stations, but you do have to be careful with them because they're not super sturdy.
I have this one, and it's perfect.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_RNcJwbTC5M1A8
I second this - got it for 15 bucks on Amazon, well worth it not to have a bunch of microUSB cables (I have a Skyrim bundle)
It's $18 right now: https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Station-DualShock-Adapters-playstation-4/dp/B00OGPTED4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1521924564&sr=8-3&keywords=move+controller+charger&dpID=41qNIcVHgfL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Not a fan of extra dongles you have to put on your controller. Also there is no option to put the controller on the station when you do not want to continuously charge it. This is a much better solution IMO. It's smaller as well:

have this its amazing...Look at reviews on amazon they are good
I use this one and it’s pretty nice. Unfortunately the price is a lot higher than when I bought it. I only paid $14.99:
Sony Move Charging Station with DualShock 4 Adapters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OGPTED4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Mn48BbXGC5FVK
https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
That's the charging station that I use and it works perfectly. I keep right next to my console, it charges the controllers through the bottom ports. It'll require a separate outlet, but you'll no longer need a USB cable on hand.
For DS4 charging, I definitely recommend picking up this dock and a second controller. Always have one charged, and plug it into the wall instead of taking up a USB port.
I use the Power A controller charging station and it is terrific!
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
Do yourself a favor and get the PowerA dual PS4 controller charger instead. Works great, uses the ports on the bottom to charge, and looks nice too. Also it's just as simple as set the controller on the base and push down. No strange sphere connectors.
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
Full price at that link but is often found on sale.
I don't have a USB issue (no headset or external HDD) but I bought a charging dock for controllers like this.
Even so, I grabbed one of these cradles to easily store/charge my controllers when not in use. But even so, I've been able to do 8 hour sessions of Assassin's Creed and inFamous and the controllers were still fine afterwards. I don't think I'd need more time than that... I do need to get up and eat every now and again.
I have this and this and I'd highly recommend them both.
Highly recommend this one. link
edit: sentence ambiguity
I’ve used this one for years, it’s very popular in the UK.
Venom PlayStation 4 Twin Docking Station - Black (PS4) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SRKXZIE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AoDRCb8NP3FJT
You sure you're not confused with this one? I bought it on launch day too and it was the only stand charger they had. The box and product is very similar to official sony stand posted by the thread OP.
I assume you are referring to this PowerA one?
If so, it's a great product. Have had mine for years with no issues. Would definitely recommend, especially for how cheap and convenient it is.
Mine adds three usb ports to the console that can actually be accessed (since it's impossible to plug 90% of anything into the ones on the console) and has sweet blue lights along the sides.
I use the Gold headset w/ dongle, and a wireless keyboard with dongle.
I use this USB adapter WITHOUT the power adapter plugged in. All 4 ports work fine using just the PS4 power: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQFGH80/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I charge my controllers when not in use with this: http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1
On the occasions I have to charge controller/headset while playing, I just purchased a long USB cable: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5139&seq=1&format=2
This one is much better:
https://www.amazon.com/Venom-Twin-Sony-Docking-Station-PlayStation/dp/B00SRKXZIE
Can you give more info? What ds4 charger? Have you tried charging with any unofficially supported charger? If you use a fast charger you can apparently break your ds4. I use a powerA charging doc and have never had a hiccup in more than two years.
https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
I have the Nyko station, which is great. http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-PlayStation-4/dp/B00FLLFJ68/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412059681&sr=8-1
It has charging indicator lights and comes with dongles you leave plugged into the controllers, so all you need to do is just drop them in to the charging station, you don't press them in or anything.
I've got [this] (http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO). It's officially licensed and I highly recommend it.
I highly recommend this dock as its the only official PlayStation one that I know of.

I have this one and I really like it: https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
If the USB is damaged, you need to get the following:
This charger uses the AUX port (instead of the USB port) at the bottom of the controller to charge.
https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO?th=1
This is the official Sony DS4 wireless adaptor. You can get cheaper BT usb adapters, but this is going to be the easiest.
https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-4-USB-Wireless-Adaptor-playstation/dp/B01KWLKKQU
The only one worth considering in my opinion is this http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
It uses the aux port on the bottom to charge, whereas most need something plugged into the usb port on top before putting them on the charger, which looks tacky.
Not if the stand has vents. I think I'm going to take it a step further and get one with fans, and a USB hub, and a controller charger...
http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-4-Vertical-Stand-cooler-controller-Charger-Unit/dp/B00J5S9Y32/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1419971077&sr=8-3&keywords=ps4+vertical+stand

This is what convinced me to get one
You sure you have that one not this one? https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-DualShock-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
Do your controllers face the same way or opposite directions?
Mine might be the Dynamo Stand (AMAZON), haven't got it yet but the other psvr stands are all quite big but what i need is compact tidiness and this does it well.
Image
That's why I love this thing. Adds some minor bulk to the middle of the controller, but tolerable for the battery life it adds.
I've had this guy since launch. It's awesome.
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419808538&sr=8-1&keywords=dualshock+4+charge+station
Not only does it charge 2 controllers at once, but it also plugs into the wall - so doesn't use any USB ports on the console.
I would recommend a charging station such as this (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_m9iOub0RVZ10S)
I have something like this for all my consoles. It changed my gaming experience
I'd say buy something like this and have them charging while you sleep
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Move-Charging-Station-DualShock-Adapters/dp/B00OGPTED4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1479397804&sr=8-4&keywords=ps4+charge+station
I would also recommend a charging station like this one: http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
It’s really useful for just putting away a controller in the middle of or after a session. You never really have to worry about battery life after getting one of these. Same thing as using the cable really, but more convenient because you can plug it in anywhere.
I use this one. I've had it for a couple years, no issues. Good rating per amazon.
Get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427825574&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+charging+dock
It's now just a normal habit for me to click the DS4 down onto the dock to charge it after every play.
Tbh I forgot it even had a secret compartment O.O Maybe it'll fit the USB cable! And yeah no charger for these stands, I have two controllers sitting on them and then another two sitting on this charger.
... I have too many controllers.
Since new I have had this charger. Has never given me any issues with my 4 DS4's. If you only ever charged the controller with the USB port, and something between the port and the battery is fried this style charge stand may help out. I know there are issues with the charge cable getting pinched between the surface the controller is resting on and the controller itself, prying the USB port up, especially when the cable end is a bit longer than the stock charge cable.
Edit: just checked, bought it 3 years ago.
> I'm asking if there's some peripheral I could buy that would allow me to do that.
https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Modular-Charge-Station-Black-PlayStation/dp/B00MUTAU4A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497805339&sr=8-2&keywords=nyko%2Bps4%2Bcharger&th=1 <-- I thought this would allow me to do that without shelling out another few hundred for a PS4 Pro since that does have USB on the back.
Can't speak to if the PS4 is worth it with the XB1, I only have the PS4 but I am happy with the purchase overall.
Everyone here will recommend The Last of Us. The main story is a lot of fun and got a lot of positive reviews from the community and critics. I am addicted to the multi-player component; it has a bit of a learning curve but it is one of the most intense online experiences I have had personally.
Another exclusive you might try is InFAMOUS: Second Son. I had trouble getting into it because your character feels incredibly OP with little challenge. There are a few really well scripted boss battles though that will provide a decent challenge. Overall I would recommend it if you can get it on sale.
Other than games I would suggest buying a controller charging stand. The DS4 doesn't have the best battery life, ultimate frustration is that it doesn't turn itself off or into any kind of sleep mode when you are using Netflix etc. This is the one I have:
http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
It works well, and is very compact. It feels a bit cheap but I think it would stand up to quite a bit of abuse if you are worried. I have dropped mine a few times with no problems.
Don't bother with the camera unless you plan on recording yourself gaming for youtube or something. No real support for it in terms of games.
Will edit if I think of anything else.
Same price on Amazon - also includes reviews and a picture showing how the controller sits.

I've been spending a lot of time on GameFAQS recently so I enjoyed this a lot.
Heads up though if you want a protip for the quest: It's cheaper on Amazon
Don't forget to get a charging station to accomodate your headset ds4 and 2 moves...saves keep having to change when charging ....

Is it this one?
Extra controller + this dock is all you need to game for hours.
This is the charging station I use, but there are others that also charge from the bottom.
Get a charger that plugs into a wall socket. Here’s an example

One of the best purchases I have made for my ps4. I have mine setup right next to the couch so if a controller goes dead I just reach over and grab the other one.
This.

Try charging it with one of those accessory chargers. They use the port on the other side of the controller: https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO
There also a port on the bottom for recharging, which is part of what makes this charger so great.
Heres the PowerA for ~$12 less
With this...

For a controller charging dock.
Have 5 DS4's and I have 2 of these https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO I charge them on and never had an issue thus far
It's the Power A one.
I have it too and have had zero issues.
This is it.

The Dualshock 4 charging station connects to that port, and Sonys VR headset should be plug in there...

Get this so you won't have to http://amzn.com/B00ENFVJJO plus it will charge 2 controllers at the same time.
I prefer this one myself.
$11 cheaper. amazon
Sony version:

Indeed, Pro has one more USB at the back but I still bought this

Battery extension packs.

I just use this energizer controller battery set. It attaches to the controllers and you just lay them on the stand to charge.
