Sorry for the wall, just hoping I can help make your food a bit less boring.
Chicken doesn't have to be suffer or settle! Just tinker around in the kitchen man.
A good meat tenderizer is a game changer for one. The multi-blade ones are vastly better than the mallet style IMO. They actually make your chicken soft & tender, it's sort of fulfills that gap between homemade chicken vs Restaurant style where you ask yourself 'Why does my chicken never come out this way?'
That tenderizer is also pretty good at making lean cuts of beef actually edible lol. Like london broil, which is awesome because it's significantly cheaper than sirloin/ ny strip/ etc. So beef can be a good change of pace as well. I tenderize it and marinade it all the same as my chicken.
Also the 30 minute marinade dry rub packs with fat free italian dressing(In place of oil), a little water, and maybe some lime extract depending on the marinade makes a world of difference for really not many added calories. I think it adds 250 calories across 4 LBS of meat. IMO calories well spent when it drastically alters your meal and makes it something you look forward to.
I also make my rice with chilli & garlic powder, and it almost makes it taste like spanish rice. Again for very little extra calories.
You can also mash sweet potatos(Or regular potatoes for that matter) and kind of incorporate your diced up meat into it for a change of pace. My taste is weird but I love to do that, and dice up a cucumber to throw in as well, and eat with a random sauce. It's interesting for sure and I could see how someone else might not like it, but I'm really enjoying it.
Use any low calorie sauces or syrups you can find. I try to aim for no more than 20 calories a TBSP, lower is preferable. A lot of asian sauces off the shelf meet this criteria, and walden farms has a whole line of 0 calorie sauces.
Also I just saw Greg Doucette's video on how to turn a protein shake into ice cream basically. Really not all that expensive or calorie dense and makes your protein shake waaaay better. And it is a lot cheaper than the healthy ice cream alternatives like halo top. You can get 10oz of guar gum powder on amazon for $6(Practically a life time supply except it supposedly expires after 2 years.)
One thing Greg Doucette also got me on was popcorn. Buy the healthies version you can find, don't go for the heavy buttered kind. I like this brand personally.
Popcorn, on paper anyway, is better than a lot of carb choices. It has more protein & fiber than rice & I'm pretty sure potatoes also IIRC. And theres so much volume you just get to eat for longer. If you are anything like me and love to eat, that's a good thing!
And I personally haven't tried this yet, because from my research it looks like it costs basically the same as buying a pre-made protein bar off the shelf but supposedly these taste a lot better. Maybe If you are crafty you can find alternative products to get the cost down. There are different fiber syrups on amazon that are cheaper than fiberyum & there are agave syrups with similar nutritional values. But in the video he says a fiber syrup is a MUST, so IDK If agave will work. I'd maybe try to make a small batch first before wasting a pound of protein to find out agave won't work.
Tohato's Caramel Corn is great. It tastes heavenly and nothing like american caramel corn. 10/10 I've never met anybody that hated it.
Tohato's Chocobi might fit their palate. This is the exact food Shin-chan eats in the show and has won the hearts of Japanese children.
Ramune is a must. If they watch anime they've most likely seen a young character drink this classic summer/festival beverage. Stores sell them year round though.
Umaibou is a common snack kids buy for a field trip. The cheese flavored one is popular. Think of it like an mega upgraded Japanese version of a giant Cheeto.
Giant Caplico is pretty neat novelty snack. It's a waffle biscuit in the shape of an ice cream cone.
Ok..not entering but have to share. I buy this! Its in my cupboard! Lol..
I received the spatulas for xmas...they are awesome! Love looking at peoples lists. Have a great day!
The machine isn't totally necessary unless you want it for aesthetics, or for its ability to keep popcorn warm. You can get similar results by making it homemade on the stove-top though and you'd save a lot of money. Easier clean-up, too.
That said, I'm not too sure about good popcorn machines, but here are some popular options for good popping oil, salt, and kernels:
Oil:

Salt:

Kernels:

And if you're interested in the stove-top method, I wrote a blog about the technique here:

Happy popping!

2.) Inspiring jealousy throughout the sciences!
3.) Students, teachers, and EVERYONE will smile! =D
4.) My calculator refuses to be revived again. =(
5.) It's RECESS: LET'S DANCE!
6.) GOOOOOOOO $13000 DRAGONS! o_O
7.) mmmm, Coconut Caramel Corn! =D
8.) The Strange Story of the Frog Who Became a Prince.
9.) Waterproof, for biking home even on rainy days!
10.) After a smoothie for a snack, hitting the gym!

In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.
These are shelf stable af: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Natural-Delights-Medjool-Dates-12-oz/113320764
Bought some last week and the "best by" date is September 2020.
They taste like pure sugar and if you're not eating enough fiber every day, a couple of these each day for 2-3 days will definitely let you know.
Pair these with a nut butter (also shelf stable) and they make a great shelf stable, healthy punch of sugar and calories!
Plain popcorn + noosh?
Apart from that, Trader Joe's might have a couple of relatively healthier options in their chips/popcorn section. Think chickpea snacks, or the roasted edamame stuff I've seen on Amazon.
You've just about got it. You're correct about real butter soaking the popcorn and making it soggy. However, I'd avoid Reddenbacher's oil in favor of a dedicated topping -- don't use one that serves double duty. Get one like this or this. This is actually better, because it's made from butter. You can make your own topping by making ghee.
For the popping oil, if you want the best, use coconut oil. There are butter-flavored coconut oil products like this, but even plain coconut oil from the supermarket is better than Reddenbacher oil.
When you're ready to become a popcorn wizard, step up to the popcorn hammer. :)
Skinny Pop is really good, the amount of salt actually grows on you as you ween yourself off of higher sodium snacks. 100 cals per bag.

Smartfood makes a white cheddar popcorn that's solid, albeit you get a bit less than Skinny Pop for the added flavoring.

I personally love Pop Chips, 100 cals per bag and super satisfying. The Cheddar and Sour Cream and Sour Cream and Onion are both my go-tos.
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dgrocery&field-keywords=pop+chips

Yes - Good people of the internet. These, are a vital staple in my diet. They have the texture of a thicker chip. But so crunchy and good. Now, the flavor is NOT my favorite. It is really the only drawback - I think they are overly seasoned with that fake BBQ flavor. They have a hot buffalo one that is pretty good, too. Again, not amazing. But - it is part of their appeal. Chips are super triggering for me, but since these aren't soooooo good, I don't demolish the bag in one sitting. Plus, they are plant-protein based and I am always trying to get more protein.

10/10 recommend.

Edit: here is the link to their information on amazon for any people who want to get at them: https://www.amazon.com/POPCORNERS-Little-Rebellion-Protein-Crisps/dp/B07263DG8Y I highly you don't buy them on Amazon, though. It looks like only 2 bags come for 14$. They're 3/4 dollars in my grocery store.
I'd be interested in these volumes of write-ups about the butter.
Honestly I thought regular, straight butter was fine, but now I'm questioning this notion. I have a commercial counter-top heated butter dispenser for my backyard movie nights that has worked great, but I have to shorten the pump range to the smallest setting because too much real butter ruins the popcorn and people aren't used to this.
Also, just for the sake of an alternative to those mentioned, I buy Snappy Popcorn from Amazon. Iowa business. It's pretty good. Coconut oil. About 95% pop ratio.
It's this popcorn! It's about 360 calories for 1 bag (10 cups popped?) according to the nutritional label. It's amazing. It's super sweet and my coworkers got me HOOKED on it. The white cheddar flavor is good too.
GF PB crackers (just like Ritz Bitz) are super good, the cheese crackers are really good too!
I also like Lays Stax- but be careful, because Pringles are NOT GF.
One of my favorite snacks is jalapeño potato chips and Top the Tator- I'm from the midwest, so if you don't have Top the Tator than fuck you.
[jiffy pop] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007EC5MIM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1ACYBPXW50GS&coliid=I3AD9NRI0NIO3B) I had it for the first time a couple months ago and it exceeded my expectations! It was fun to make and was one of the best thingys of popcorn i have ever ever had. The other high priority item i have is a [light box] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KNHRH6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=YCQA0VLK1CQ8&coliid=I31S61MPD5I4CI) it would help me with my art and make my life easier with my drawings:) I have always wanted one more than anything, ive pined over it for years:)
2yr-old girls are like puppies. If you chase them, they'll run away. If you have a treat, they'll forget they don't like you.
Put My Little Ponies, Sofia the First, etc on a tablet and go sit on her couch with Pirates Booty and Keebler Soft Batch Chocolate Chip Cookies. Let her know she's welcome to join you if she wants. Have lots of fun. She'll join you. Just be chill.
ezpz.
I like popcorn.
Buy a microwaveable popcorn bowl for $15 and a big jug of popcorn for $15 at Sam's or Costco. The bowl is a one-time purchase and the popcorn comes out to 20 cents per bowl.
I add a touch of oil to the popcorn before microwaving, but it's not needed (and makes it a little tougher to clean). Otherwise add salt and/or seasoning and you're good to go.
It's the perfect "I'm hungry but don't want a whole meal" option or "It's 11pm and I need a snack to get me through the next few hours of studying" option.
It really is. So tasty.
Cinnamon is awesome! Here's the popcorn right here best smell ever : http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00J8ZUF9O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1405033723&sr=8-1

I've never heard of that flavor of Pocky before, but it sounds delicious! And ever since I've heard of green tea kit kats, I've been dying to try them! Omnomnom
Have you ever had Pirates Booty or Warheads?
I'm going to audition to moderate in four years. I think I have a good chance during the audition, as I'll bring my own butane stove, jiffy pop, and Tony's. I think the visuals and audio would be hilarious. I could even time it so that during the closing statements you could hear me picking out the kernels with a toothpick and sucking my teeth.
I love just the cheese! Amazon sells them in several flavors. The bag is very small (about 2.5 inches by 5 inches). You get a handful of chips for 75 calories, 1 carb.
If you want a bigger bag, go for the popcorn variety. These are big balls rather than chips. You can supposedly eat them heated, but I've never tried it. This is more like a convenience-store sized bag of chips (versus snack size or regular size).
Happy Birthday!
If you're a film buff you could get to work on AFI's top 100 movies of all time!
To complete the experience you need some of this of course!
POPCORN IS THE BEST FOOD IN THE WHOLE WORLD
Popcorn combines the best of every snack food there is: it's hot, buttery, salty, filling, but not too filling, and you can put chocolate/truffle oil/cheese & onion crisps/toffee/cheese in with it so it becomes whatever you're craving!
I used to work in a theater and I recall the butter being flavored oil too. I did a quick google and found several products that are just that. Additionally, there would be times where we would run out and we would put real sticks of salted butter in the butter warmer instead of this topping oil and the real butter would make such a mess. The real butter would not melt completely and would leave a foamy substance on top which required a bit more work when cleaning. So yay for butter flavored oil topping.

Of course. One day I ate a huge bag of this (i was the fat kid). I proceded to shit my brains out (in my pants). The smell was rancid. Our teacher made us put all of our lunches on one side of the room and had us stand on the other, to see if someone had something rotten. The look on her face when she realized the stench was coming from us was golden. The smell lingered into other classrooms on the floor so at this point, it was clear that no learning was going to happen until they solved this shitty mystery. Being the fat kid, everyone naturally looked at me first, so I had to think fast. We were all standing in the hallway at this point so I slipped into the bathroom to check the situation. It was like like someone had poured a huge pot of brown soup into my underwear. It was not the kind of shit that you could hide in your lunchbox. What I should have done was thrown my underwear out and ran to the nurses office. I was too deep in this now. I put my underwear and pants back on and slipped back into the hallway. When everyone started pointing fingers at me, I pointed at the next most logical choice for a pants-shitter, the extremely weird kid. There was about an hour left in the day and the smell was so putrid that they decided to bring us outside and gave us another recess. I kept my distance from everyone since there was still a ten foot shit aroma around me. The buses came, and luckily the weird kid who I'd been blaming was on my bus as well (smart pick, but I'm going to hell). So, I said, "see it was him!" and the majority of people latched on to that story. The other agreed with my older brother who was pointing at me, laughing and saying, "It was Dan! He shits himself all the time!" I got off the bus and took my backpack off. I don't know how this is physically possible but the shit had leaked all the way up the back of my white uniform shirt. I escaped the shituation with most people believing it was someone else. I had to beg my brother not to tell anyone. I haven't gone near pirates booty since.
TL;DR I ate too much Pirate's booty, had explosive diarrhea, they evacuated the school, I had shit all over my shirt.
Adding to your great comment for Whirley-Pop no fail amounts:
Heat the Whirley-Pop and oil until hot. Add popcorn and flavacol. Stir occasionally with the handle and remove when popping nearly stops. Add to a large container and and if needed, add a hint more Flavacol to the popcorn.
Bonus: Add ODell's Supur-Kist topping or Snappy Butter Burst for butter flavor.
For Kernels, I recommend:

To get the salt/seasining to stick I use:

Lots of places use something like this or this.
This jerky because it’s individually wrapped and only 50 cals per pack
My office has a few healthy snacks in the kitchen that I stash at my desk for munchy days:
Eda-Zen Cruncha ma-me Edamame Veggie Snack, Lightly Seasoned
SkinnyPop Popcorn
Apples or bananas with almond butter
Trader Joe’s lightly salted almonds
I can't be sure, but I think what /u/mynamewastaken meant was that movie theater popcorn isn't "buttery" because they don't actually use real butter. From what I understand its usually palm oil or palm kernel oil. Amazon has "Butter Flavored Popcorn Topping" which looks to be mostly soybean oil.
So "buttery" in flavor maybe, but not really "buttery".
If anyone is interested in making movie style popcorn at home these ingredients make a very close match.
