Not entering the contest, but good luck to everyone else. :)

I'm not a big fan of regular Twizzlers, but these are so, so good. Sweet, sour, chewy, and totally addictive.

As far as chips go, Salt & Vinegar are awesome. Doritos Tapatio are my absolute favorite, but make sure you like spicy hot foods.

Crickets is where it's at. Amazon actually has a handful of cricket based products now and it's actually pretty interesting. Basically it's like 1000x more efficient then cattle, has way more benefits for you vitamin wise, and is pretty versatile. I've now tried these protein bars and these chips both made from cricket flour (ground crickets essentially), and they are both good. Couldn't tell the difference between them and similar products made with other flour substitutes like almond flour.

>What's your favorite chip brand and chip flavor that you've had?

Clover Chips

>What's a type of pizza that's pretty different/unique with the toppings that you really enjoyed?

Vegetarian pizza. Tastes great actually.

>Who here has actually visited Japan? What did you do there?

Went for Love Live concerts and fell in love with Numazu.

Well, my original comment about obesity was meant as tongue in cheek, but with that said.... Are you sure about GMO not playing a role? It seems there have been very little independent studies on the effects of GMO foods and the FDA is full of Monsanto formers and soon-to-bes, so its really not surprising they take the industry's word as golden that GMO won't harm you. Also worth pointing out, GMO foods have really only been available since the 90's, so at this point we really DON'T know if there are long term health problems with genetically modified foods.

Does GMO make you fall over dead if you eat it? nah, that would be pretty obvious... Does it have unknown long term health effects which may not have been identified? Possibly, which is why labeling what has been genetically tweaked is a good idea.

Is it tinfoil hat extremism? Maybe, but having the option to choose what foods you consume, and be able to make clear choices is really what this is about. If I'm wrong, you can laugh at the thousands of extra dollars I spent through my lifetime on "lol organic" food. If I'm correct... then its a good thing my food was labeled clearly so I knew what to avoid, right?

Final footnote - The food industry pumping millions of dollars into the No on 37 campaign are a bunch of hypocrites; They say GMO has no negatives, yet they sure were willing to jump all over the "natural foods" bandwagon and start putting natural all over everything.

I like salt. I like vinegar. I like potato chips. But I don't like salt and vinegar potato chips, even though I expected to like them before I ever tried them.

Best flavor chips in my opinion are salt and pepper chips. But not just any brand -- some of them taste like they're coated with the same sort of dust that's used on sour cream & onion chips, plus a little pepper. The best ones are Kettle Brand. Yum.

There is a german treat callled puff reis which I love to bringe on while smoking.
This is how they look like:

I love them since they are sweet and fruity and you can eat a lot of them (unlike fast food). I always Start by eating one by one but after ten minutes I find myself shoving them into my mouth like a power shovel. Only Problem is that they are all over the floor after a good sesh.

Cheers

That looks delicious. And foreign candy sounds so amazing!

My favorite junk food...probably salt and vinegar chips. I love anything vinegar-y! (:

The best solution I've found for this is to find replacements that I can either safely binge on or that don't trigger the cravings. It sounds bad, but the worst thing I've found for me so far is the new birthday cake fiber one brownies. I'm actually blown away by how addictive they felt to me! I ate three the first day I had them.

For chips in particular, I keep them out of the house, but I've had success keeping Baked Cheetos, Ritz Crips & Thins, and Back to Nature Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Wheat Crackers. I like these things because they are all not quite as good as chips but still very good, so they satiate the craving, but I don't struggle to portion them out correctly as long as I portion them into a bowl/plate and take the bowl/plate in another room (away from the box) to eat them.

Usually it's those surprise odd-brands like Dirty Chips or even Uncle Ray's (the chili flavored one is OMG) that are the best but since it looks like we're doing the major brands - can I cast my vote for Wavy Lays?

I already love this sub so much

Herr's ketchup chips have been available near me in NYC for almost 20 years now (being that the first time i spotted them was circa 2000 and a buddy of mine was already very accustomed to them) but it might be regional and noy available everywhere.
That's the thing about the US...big country with lots of people and lots of different markets - with plenty of room for mid level companies to make a profit without being a legit national brand.
There's a ton of regional food out there - and not just home made dishes or cuisine from different cultures or cities that call it tradition (ie deep dish pizza/cheese steaks/different variants of BBQ) but even so for store bought, mass produced stuff as well.
TastyKake is regional and not found everywhere, as one example.
And for chips, there's plenty that aren't even available in different parts of the US. Zapp's only recently made it's way up north from Louisiana, their stuff is great. Sadly, they stopped making this one a while back and it was the greatest potato chip in the history of mankind.

If you like carbs you don't have to go crazy low carb. Find some sweet potato chips (like these)

I also love these pork clouds for handy snacks:

Good luck!

The Calbee Pizza potato chips are fucking awesome. http://www.amazon.com/Potato-Chips-Cheddar-Emmental-Cheese/dp/B003VMD89Y

They are the best chips ever. Also, Daily Yamazaki sells ume shiso flavor chips seasonally that might be even better than the pizza ones.

u/sticky-bit · 3 pointsr/savedyouaclick

I've never had these, but Zapps Voodoo sound like the same thing and are pretty dang good.

I tried Miss Vickie's Lime & Black Pepper potato chips once and found the flavor to be quite good. Nice citrus tang to go with the crunch.

Here's the basic family fish-fry recipe:

  1. Soak the fillets in beer for 15-20 minutes. We typically used walleye, but any flakey white fish would do.

  2. Dip the fillet into flour. The basic recipe is straight flour, but I like to mix things up with a little black pepper, paprika and/or cayenne pepper in with the flour.

  3. Dip the flour-coated fillet into some beaten eggs.

  4. Dip the fillet into your final coating - typically crushed saltine crackers. Here's where you can get creative with other crunchy coatings like pretzels, panko, corn meal, et al.

  5. Fry in vegetable oil / Crisco until golden. Repeat.

EDIT: Not exactly the chicken coating recipe that misterhat asked about, but I've used this fish fry approach to make home-made chicken nuggets and fried chicken thighs. Good stuff.

Mmm, delicious, my favorite snack.
At them at my grandma's,
But now I'm back.
And she is gone.
Although, I admit,
It hasn't been long,
I still miss the taste,
like bites, sweet and strong.

Your cookies sound delicious. I don't see this recommendation, somehow but... stop buying them if you don't like the rate of consumption? or plan the consumption so you don't feel so bad. I have an issue eating handfuls of prunes (I'm not sorry) so I intentionally plan to not buy them 4/5 grocery trips then not feel bad on the 5th when I do and then inhale them.

Have you tried these root veggie chips? This might not help your cause because they are delicious but you might like the ingredients better. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014852HH6/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_Qfc4DbJDNQ1W2

Edit: Also these. I'm so sorry. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CEEYKY/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_fpc4DbKY6AMWQ

yeah, DOO EEEET! I had a friend from Australia come to the US during an exchange program thing before I got sent overseas and she said that one of the only things she liked about America was the snacks, make sure you put some Zapp's potato chips on there, not sure if you guys have those in the UK but they come from my hometown of New Orleans and you HAVE to try them, crispy spicy goodness. http://www.amazon.com/ZAPPS%C2%AE-Cajun-Crawtator-Potato-Chips/dp/B0000E5JQV/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1319156054&sr=8-6 these kinds :P

u/jordood · 2 pointsr/TwinCities

How about some lesser known mom-and-pop spicy chips?

Mama Zuma's Revenge Habanero Potato Chips

Zapp's Spicy Cajun Crawtator

Zapp's Voodoo Heat

And there are still Flamin' Hot Ruffles out there as well.

There's also the international chip market to be explored!

From Japan, Calbee Hot and Spicy and Karamucho's Hot Chili.

From Korea, Samyang Zzaldduck.

From the Phillipines, Boy Bawang Cornick Hot Garlic.

From Mexico, Takis, of course - but don't forget about Totis!

And from Great Britain, Mega Monster Munch Flamin Hot.

Spicy chips are out there waiting to be tried - maybe one of them will be your new go-to!

u/The_Livewire · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I find it really hard to go wrong with Cheddar and Sour Cream

Also the Spicy Craw-tator chips are just amazing if you've never tried them do so!
