TOOTHBRUSH

This is the electric toothbrush I use and recommend: Sonicare Flex Care Plus. It is cheapest at Costco but comes in a pack of 2. It's important to replace the brush head every 3-4 months. Sonicare now has a subscription service to automatically send you a new brush head when it's time to replace, or you can buy the brush heads when you need them; they come out to approx $9 each on amazon but you can get 6 for $50 at Costco and they oftentimes have a $10 instant rebate. If you need to use a manual toothbrush, I recommend the Nimbus manual toothbrush. These Wisps are really handy when you can't brush after eating.  

FLOSS

The floss I recommend is Dr. Tung's Smart Floss and you can use this  Floss Holder to make it easier to use. (Amazon only sells the floss in packs of 3 or 6 so if you want to purchase a single pack you can find it at Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, or Sprouts.) A Waterpik can also be a great tool, this one is a Handheld Waterpik and is more convenient to use. You can use it in the shower and it takes up less counter space. 

TOOTHPASTE/MOUTHWASH

This Crest Gum and Sensitivity  paste is one of my favorites and I like Act Total Care mouthwash. When choosing a toothpaste or mouthwash, look for "sodium fluoride" as an active ingredient.  It's best to stay away from mouthwashes with alcohol in them and whitening/charcoal pastes because the abrasives in them can damage the teeth. If you use a whitening rinse with hydrogen peroxide, only use it 2-3 times per week to avoid making the gum tissue sensitive. Other than that, whatever you prefer is just fine.

WHITENING

For an inexpensive whitening treatment Crest White Strips are a good option.

Nah man/woman I promise you, as someone who is almost self conscious about how casual he is with his dental care, spend the $30-40 to buy one of the Philips that has the 2 minute timer and pressure sensor to tell you when you brush too hard.

Life. Changing. The first time it feels like you just stood there brushing for ten minutes but ooooh boy run that little mouth muscle over dem bones and you'll want to kiss yourself in the mirror. There is literally no feeling of left over plaque. Especially behind the teeth. Love it, man. I told myself Id never get one till like 3-4 months ago and Im disappointed I let my teeth get to the point they are now when Ive had some serious pretty pearls prior with zero cavaties and strong enamel. A habit of brushing what could only average to 4 times a week at the peak, and brushing fast and hard to just get it over with (heavy hand wears down enamel faster) ended my shiny teeth and me quick. I'm going to piggyback on this comment, love Sonicare, but the Essence can get pretty gunked up in between the housing of the base and head the way it is designed. Replacement heads are more expensive than other models as well.

I would recommend the Easy Clean version which is slightly more for the initial investment, but replacement heads are more affordable and it stays much cleaner. You can also use the DiamondClean replacements on the Easy Clean as well, which are the heads that I prefer.

Just a follow up with regards to brushes, which do you recommend? Looking at Amazon, Oral B has 7 brushes. I use the Precision Clean, but Dual Clean looks interesting as well as the Pro White. Even the Floss Action looks interesting. Is there a brush you recommend for daily use? Do you recommend multiple, say for example Precision daily and Pro White one day a week.

If you like the show Louie, you would like his old show Lucky Louie. It's a slightly different type of comedy from him, but I still loved it. Also, based on your interest in the Waterpik, if you don't have a Sonicare toothbrush, you NEED one. In fact, I think everyone needs one. My mouth feels so fresh and wonderful after I use it. Its expensive but the feeling you get and how white your teeth will be is worth it!

Here is my routine with items and products that work for me.

DAILY Morning:

1. Scrape tongue; rinse with water; brush teeth for 2 minutes; floss; rinse 1 minute with alcohol-free mouthwash and then gargle 30 seconds with a little more mouthwash; brush tongue with vegetable glycerin.
   
2. Shower with warm- not hot- water; shampoo (every other day) and condition (every day); wash pits, feet, in between toes, crotch and crack with antibacterial soap and washcloth; wash rest of body with loofah and body wash of choice.
   
3. Wash face with warm water and a gentle face cleanser; shave; apply witch hazel to face, neck, and forehead; apply moisturizer with SPF
   
4. Dry off completely, especially pits, in between toes, crotch, and crack; apply Fresh Balls , deodorant, foot cream or powder , and hand cream (as necessary).
   
   DAILY Night:
   
   
5. Step 1 of morning routine
   
6. Wash hands and clean under finger nails * with antibacterial soap
   
7. Wash face with warm water and face cleanser; apply moisturizer.

Not really OP is underestimating you are overestimating.

The $24 Philips Sonicare Essence is a great toothbrush (4/5 stars with 8,137 reviews) but it is an older version so its very bulky.

The $50 Oral-B Black Pro 1000 is the newer style that is slim works great (4.5 stars with 4,322 reviews) and can accept any style of Oral B head including the plaque bristle ones.

The expensive ones just add built in timers, More LEDs, a sexier stand and some are bluetooth capable and sync with your phone (which i guess is nice if you got kids and want to verify they are brushing)

For nearly a year I've used this toothbrush and I am very impressed. My tooh brushing has improve rather much and according to my dentist, my mouth is in general a lot healthier than before.
It has a nice system, it has a counter and signals where and when you have to brush specific areas of your mouth.
Furthermore than being a great toothbrush, it has some cool equipment coming along. It's got a discount place at Amazon at the moment, go for it. Check it out. :-)

I was coming here to say this. I brush my teeth, but never long enough. The electric toothbrush has a timer, so I know when to even move to a different part of my mouth. It's made a huge difference.

I have a pretty basic Sonicare. I like it being rechargeable because most of my electric toothbrushes that aren't, become manual toothbrushes pretty quickly.

When it's cold I'm really happy I have a wood stove. Not just for heat but also to stop it from getting too damp inside, let me dry my boots, and give me an easy way to make hot water for tea.

Before I setup pressure water I used the Whale Gusher Galley pump and it always worked really well. I'm definitely glad I upgraded to pressure water though (I'm using the seaflo 33 series 12v pump now).

Yeah not officially a travel toothbrush, but I use it only for travel. It's pretty cheap and works decent enough. Wish I could find a good shaver on USB-C.

I purchased the Phillips Sonicare Essence last December for ~$30 and it works great!

I've had issues with plaque build-up but last check up my dentist said that I was doing great! The toothbrush is really fantastic--the timer, carrying case and wireless charger--really make it worthwhile especially at that price.

The difference is not clinically significant. Evidence shows that both clean better on average than manual brushing, but they both work roughly the same.

Kind of stinks most people can't try em both, because they both feel different. FWIW, personally, the Sonicare's buzzing gives me a nails on chalkboard kind of feel while the Oral B is more of a physical rumble.. however, my fiancee prefers the opposite so YMMV. Tons of people go with either Sonicare or Oral B and in the end it doesn't matter.

Or get more expensive ones if you like things like quadrant timers, sensitive/low power settings, bluetooth capability (why?), etc.

First, you should only be brushing with a soft bristled toothbrush. Everything else tends to be too hard on the gum tissue. Brush for two minutes using the Modified Bass Technique. Look it up on youtube. Also, "Just saw one seven years ago?" That made me lol.

I have and use a sonicare. I love it to death. However, this is an excellent deal. Rotary brushes are excellent at removing plaque, and Oral-B replacement heads tend to be cheaper than the sonicare ones.

Yeah, they worked great for me. You just have to make sure you are consistant with them. Also, I wouldn't use more than a kit or two because they will end up removing the enamel from your teeth. Best advice I can offer other than oil pulling is to get an Electric toothbrush. THIS is what I have, and its amazing. Since buying it about 2 years ago I never have any dental problems and my dentist says my teeth are looking great. I was very hesitant to get one of these for a while but its one of the best decisions I've made.

If you rinse your mouth, or drink water after drinking tea this helps.

Brushing is even better than rinsing.

Drinking tea faster, and rinsing or brushing sooner (rather than later) after drinking tea minimizes the time the tannins are exposed to the teeth and mitigates staining.

Drink green or white tea, like you said.

Use a peroxide based pre-brush whitening rinse if your dentist says it's OK for you to do so.

Professional cleanings every six months . . .

I'm seeing a ton of staining and some build up. You also have naturally very grooved and ridged teeth which isn't making things easier. You are also crowded, which isn't helping. Are you using a fluoride paste? Make sure you are flossing correctly. Watch some videos or ask your dentist/hygienist to show you. Same with the brush. Don't rinse with water or non-flouridated mouthwash after brushing, just spit and go. Ask your dentist of any of your teeth are candidates for sealants. You will likely pay out of pocket for that. Can't thoroughly address whether or not you have any recession without a proper exam, but from glancing at the pics, I'll say I think you are over worrying and should concentrate more on getting your teeth squeaky clean. You might want to ask about orthodontics to straighten your teeth which will also make them easier to care for.

There are nicer ones, but this one is pretty good for the money.

my dental hygienist had me get this toothbrush. it's the one with the gum massage feature, and a feature to make sure you aren't pressing too hard. i was OCD toothbrusher before, this totally saves me time, and it feels amazing! actually worth the money. you have to replace the brush head every 3 months. still worth it.

My dentist said that any electric toothbrush is so much better than regular brushing that you don't need to spend any more than the minimum.

As long as it's got a basic timer to let you know when you're done and replaceable heads, you're gold.

This is what I've had for a few years now and I love it. You're teeth feel like you just left the dentist, and it telling me when I'm done stops me from being lazy about it.

this one runs on a regular aa battery, and works well. I have used it for 3-4 years.

Then there are the rechargable ones which are newer models which can be used in Indian homes too. This and this ones are the new ones. a bit pricey but excellent features. I have coupon codes for 500-1000 rs discount on these, if you want, just ask!

It really depends on how strong of a vibrator you need. This works for us, and it's a little bit stronger than you'd expect.

If you need something with a big kick, you'll probably have to do a lot of searching though. Going to a toy store would be the best bet.

Here's something that might make you laugh...The only other thing that has worked for us during sex is This. We wrap a piece of tape around it, and the thing is stupidly powerful. The neck is small, and the body of it can rest on your stomach. The only down side is that it has a timer and cuts out every 30 seconds, then stops at 2 minutes. It really is annoyingly strong, and useless for its intended purpose.

Here's what I learned:

1. Use an electric ultrasonic tooth brush. Trust me it is a huge difference vs manual or standard electric tooth brushes.
   
   
2. Drink enough clean water. Staying hydrated makes everything in your body function better. It also washes your teeth from whatever you eat/drink during the day.
   
   
3. No brainer: Avoid sugary drinks and candy. Also, don't overindulge on acidic fruit like lemons, oranges, grapes, etc. If you do, refer to #1. Make sure to wash some of the acids away with a sip or two of water.
   
   
4. Don't brush too often. Doing so does more harm than good. Brush twice a day and never right after eating. If you can, brush an hour or two after your breakfast and then again before going to bed.
   
   
5. Get a tongue scraper. This also helps against bad breath.
   
   
6. Floss regularly. No need to overdo it, though. Just get in there once or twice a week to keep plaque from building up too fast between your teeth.
   
   
7. Use a good mouth wash. This is more for your gums than your teeth. A good mouth wash will greatly reduce inflammation, which is a prime cause for all sorts of problems. Once a day is enough.
   
   Other than that, go to the dentist and get a professional tooth cleaning once every year or two. It's relatively cheap and the only real way to keep plaque and dental calculus in check.

FYI for anyone looking into these: I've had about 4 sonicares in the last 10 years. To me they're better than Oral-B or even Rotodent. Keep in mind they will all die eventually as the batteries only last so long. 4 years, maybe 5 is about the most you can expect. Some go bad in as little as 2 years, but Sonicare will send you a new handle if it's still under warranty which is usually 3 years.

That said spending over $100 on a Sonicare is just crazy. They're just a little bit nicer and all do basically the same thing. That $150 sonicare does the same thing and will die in a few years just like the $50 sonicare. I DO however recommend spending a little more for the newer slim style with the brush head that pushes on, not the old ass one from 10 years ago that screws on. It's much smaller and lighter and not nearly as much of a pain in the ass to keep clean.

I truly believe that if I had one of these a little earlier in life, I'd have never had any cavities whatsoever. For now it means my teeth always feel clean and I don't need to go to the dentist as often, and when I do, cleanings are pretty uneventful.

I am not sure what the difference is, but I am not a big fan of them. I have one of these and love the way my teeth feel after brushing, but I find the twist on part of the head and the overall design to be a bacterial breeding ground. I have found it very difficult to keep clean. Invest in an good toothbrush. I was so lazy when it comes to brushing and even when I brushed/flossed faithfully it took too long and I didn't see much benefit.

After reading a recommendation by others on reddit, I spent $25 dollars on an electric OralB toothbrush and it has done wonders with my teeth. Please brush at LEAST twice a day.

Bad breath can be attributed to a number of things. Just maintain good overall dental hygiene and remember to brush your tongue every so often.

Mines just an off brand one I spent $10 on. I think the round head fits better and allows me to really focus on 1 tooth at a time. I've been looking into this one and I like the reviews though.

Well it bleaches the surface stains and you just follow the directions. its redo as you need it since it only helps if your teeth are stained. You should get an electric tooth brush if you dont have one. Believe me, it really does make a world of difference.

Oral B round brush heads require you to focus individually on each tooth. Sonicare has longer brush heads that cover more teeth. I prefer sonicare, but for patients who have a hard time with oral hygiene I instruct them to purchase an oral b and watch themselves in the mirror focusing on each tooth. Having used sonicare brushes for years, I would stay away from the models you are looking at because of the brush head design. Especially if multiple people may use it, and change brush heads, that model needs to be unscrewed and gets all gunked up with moisture.

Also, the replacement screw on heads seem to be more expensive on Amazon.

If you can swing it, look in to a model with the smaller, pull off type brush head.

I do, I bought this in May off of Amazon and it still works great.

The replacement heads are relatively cheap. It's cheaper to replace a warn out head than the whole toothbrush. And it's frugal to spend a little more on a better toothbrush to avoid dental bills. Oral B is only $40 on Amazon I've had mine for years

Use an electric tooth brush. I found sores are caused by knocking/stabbing my gums with the hard plastic of a regular toothbrush and nothing to do with the actual bristles of the brush. An electric toothbrush doesn't involve jabbing and the friction of the head is unlikely to cause sores.

Since I've used one, I've not had a single sore.

I bought this one for $40. They have much more expensive versions, but this works well.

That Sonicare uses e-series brush heads, which aren't as common anymore and are quite pricey, (anywhere from £8-£16 for a 2 pack of heads). I would advise going for the EasyClean, which is part of Philips newer range of brushes and uses a newer range of heads which are cheaper as they are more widely available (you can get a 12 pack of heads for £10.99). There are also four different types of brush heads you can get: ProResults, Sensitive, InterCare, DiamondClean.

Just make sure to be lazy with it, hold it on the surface you are cleaning and move to the next surface without scrubbing as this will damage your gums far more than a manual toothbrush.

Sonicares are nice. 50$. Let the toothbrush do the work for you. Don't try to hammer the crap out of your teeth/gums.

Also be wary of the cheaper heads you can buy for these things (or any toothbrush in general). One reason why they can be cheaper is that the bristles arent as rounded(cheaper to produce) and this can do some damage to the gums.

Any Sonicare that is rechargeable (they had ones that ran on AA batteries for awhile, they're shit).

Other than that, even the cheap E series has all the features you need. It's what I and everyone in my family uses, no cavities all around.

Do not use generic replacement heads.

They are garbage and do not work.

Sonicare isn't expensive, especially if you factor in all the dental work you won't be paying for.

Walmart will sometimes have E series Sonicares for as low as $20 if money is really tight.

I'm using an Oral B one (like this) and I've payed quite a lot for the replacement heads, buying in bulks you could say, and trying to find the right one, but none to my satisfaction. The battery life is very poor.

I didn't know UV is controversial. Was thinking of getting an ultra sound one, where you use a kind of a gel on your teeth and the actual brush has no bristles. I'm looking into the ones you named as well.
