I accidentally hit save, here are some more items you might want to register for:
Corner bumpers more of a concern when baby starts moving, but if you get it out of the way now you don't have to worry about it later. Same goes for plug covers and cabinet locks! Furniture anchors are a must-have, too. I haven't registered for those yet, need to figure out how many we need.
Pack'n'Play portable playpen, changing station, play mat, and bassinet. Even if you don't travel much, I think it will be handy for taking baby around the house while I do chores. They come in all kinds of designs, this one just stood out because of my nursery theme.
A glider or rocking chair, dresser/changing station, and crib. I don't have recommendations for these because I got mine as hand-downs.
Baby monitor I'm going with middle of the line video, because the audio only ones aren't much cheaper, so why not? I'd like to be able to peek in on baby and make sure he's okay without constantly disturbing him by entering the room. These come in all ranges with all kinds of features, so look at a few to figure out what you want.
Bibs. I love these because they have food-catchers. Mess will still happen, but it looks like these will at least lower the amount.
Infant soothie pacifiers
Breastfeeding pillow for sitting up Probably superfluous with the other one, but I like that it straps around your waist, cushions your back, and has pockets for drinks/snack/phone.
Pacifier clips, so you aren't knee deep in pacifiers that keep falling on the floor
Butt paste. I've heard a lot about this from other moms, apparently it's the best diaper cream.
Butt spatula admittedly I felt silly with this one, but the reviews are raving. Butt paste gets everywhere, and it's water resistant so an utter pain to clean - especially under your nails. On top of that, this makes sure you get a nice, even layer for baby's comfort.
Breastfeeding scarf! I think this thing is so neat, especially with a winter baby. You can wear it like an infinity scarf, but it'd big enough that when baby is ready to eat it will cover both of you comfortably! There are a lot of different styles, I picked a black one and a grey one just so they will go with any outfit.
Graco glider soother I picked this because I thought it was neat, then I saw a bumper with post partum advice list it on her must-have rundown.
Diaper bag! I went for the backpack style so DH and I could both comfortably use it, and honestly I don't want to deal with baby in one arm and an over-the-shoulder bag on the other.
First aid and grooming kit
Bottle sterilizer, because screw trying to hand wash them
Bottle warmer, no microwave/boiling water and guess
Bottles!
High chair. I picked this one because it is a 4-in-1, it adjusts from infant all the way up to toddler booster, so I know I'll get my use out of it.
Puj tub - it folds into your sink to be a warm, soft bathing surface for baby, and then when you're done you hang it flat in the shower, bo fuss, no mold!
I also registered at Target and BRU for some variety, some things that I don't have amazon links for:
Travel system.... I absolutely want one that is a carrier, clicks into a car base or a stroller. Getting two bases, one for each car, and the stroller base, would probably still be cheaper than buying two car seats, a carrier, and a stroller, and with these systems you don't have to wake baby up with every transistion.
Various cloth products, swaddlers, burp blankets, bath towels, bibs, etc. These are everywhere so just pick whatever suits you! I'm not registering for any clothes just because I know everyone is going to see "the cutest little onesie" and get it regardless.
Diapers! You can never have enough. I'd get a couple of packs from each size range. Don't open them until you know how big baby is, so you can exchange any that start too small.
Toys galore. Again, people will give you these registered or not, but if you see something that really strikes you, throw it in there! Jumpers and playpads are good to pick out.
Nursery decor - if you haven't gotten it all yet, black-out curtains, crib set, sheets, matress protectors, diaper genie, changing pad, laundry hamper, mobile, etc etc.
Books! Instead of cards, I'm going to ask people to bring inexpensive books with their personal note to baby, that way he can keep their messages as he grows. I put a good amount of books between $3-$6 on my registry for this, so hopefully we won't get a million copies of the same book.
This turned into an epic novel, but I hope it helps you with some starting places! Check out the reviews and similar products on things I linked, hopefully it will lead you to some things you like!
I usually don't cover depending on what I'm wearing, but I like having the option to as well. I have one that is hand made but it's like this: Udder Covers Breast Feeding Nursing Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUBNZC8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DuvYzb309KC53
It works great and you can still see baby through the top part which is really nice. Also gives them a bit more airflow that way.
I used a nursing apron, which was great until my daughter started kicking it a lot during nursing.
After that, I'd use a nursing bra with built in foam pads (no re-positioning needed!) with a tank top underneath another shirt or sweater. I'd pull the tank top down over one breast and the top shirt up, so the tank top would keep my stomach and back covered and the top shirt would keep my chest and breast covered. When this ensemble is paired with a jacket, it's pretty impossible for anyone to see anything.
I’m in the exact same boat. Sitting here with my 4 week old now. I’ve been taking the babe on lots of target/Costco trips. I keep her in the car seat and covered or I’ll wear her close to my chest. Since it’s been rainy/cold, a few trips around the store gets me out of the house and but also out of the weather. I don’t buy much of anything so it’s cheap and I’ll always go around 10am so there’s practically no one there. Since the weather is better today we’re going to walk around the domain and get a little bit of sun. Again, baby stays safely secure in the car seat away from people and germs. This little cover is a lifesaver:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074W6K8M2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540477814&sr=8-4&keywords=car+seat+covers+for+babies&dpPl=1&dpID=51q4s9f-PML&ref=plSrch
Good grief, why do people think they're entitled to attack other people's personal choices?? Just because she's comfortable whipping it out in public doesn't mean everyone else is! I'm fully prepared to tell people if it's not your boobs or baby, it's not your business. The end.
Btw, if you're looking for something a little different than the traditional covers, I got this nursing cover/scarf at my shower and had no idea these even existed. I love it and am excited to use it. :)
http://www.amazon.com/Itzy-Ritzy-Nursing-Infinity-Breastfeeding/dp/B00KCNKIDO
I got this breastfeeding cover. It's an infinity scarf and doubles as a breastfeeding cover, and a cover for the baby carrier too. It seems like it would be pretty useful and there's lots of patterns. I literally just ordered one for my friend today!
The bebe au lait one is nice. I like the stand out top part that makes it easier to see the baby and they come in cute colors (and wash very nicely).
My friend ordered me a nursing poncho and it has a clip on each shoulder that can ‘lift’ up any top you’re wearing. So I’ve worn my normal non-nursing tops and it keeps it off my baby’s face. The poncho also means I can duck my whole head in to fix anything or relatch her comfortably and not worry about flashing strangers
Here ya go!
UHINOOS Nursing Cover, Infinity Soft Breastfeeding Cotton for Babies with no See Through Cotton for Mother Nursing Apron for Breastfeeding (Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K3X62SB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UnOwDbKMJVYF2
It's $9.93 now but still, best $10 you'll ever spend ;)
I love this cover from Amazon!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F45OJ3O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WZPTCbF7DGRE8
I had a stretchy nursing cover I would toss on until I felt more comfortable breastfeeding with no cover! What really prompted the switch though is my baby no longer was content under the cover so I was just as discreet as possible. Clothes specifically meant for nursing were easier to be discreet in!
When she consented to the cover I used Something like this:
Nursing Cover Breastfeeding Scarf - Baby Car Seat Covers, Infant Stroller Cover, Carseat Canopy for Girls and Boys by YOOFOSS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074W6K8M2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ppZnDbAFM8RVX
I started using this nursing cover recently because my 5 month old gets too distracted to eat if we're in public now... honestly, now I'll probably keep using it just because I like not having to even think about whether anything is going to fall out. I've been all about "fuck it, I'm feeding my baby and I don't care who's offended by it" but I've found I'm actually more comfortable myself (most of the time) if I can just toss a cover over her.
That being said, I love the one above because the neckline is structured and kind of bows out so it's almost more like a curtain hanging around her. It's not like draped on her face or anything, which would drive me crazy.
Edit: Since there aren't any pictures on the Amazon page that show the structured neckline thing, this is what I see from above.
I had a cover that had a piece of stiff plastic in the top, so it stuck out a bit and stayed off DS's face and gave me a good view inside and he could see my face. It worked very well for us for about six-seven months til he just got too distractible by noises and started ripping it off.
Mine wasn't this specific one, but was similar: BONTIME Nursing Cover - Premium Organic Bamboo Cotton Breastfeeding Cover, Multi Used for Nursing Blanket Full Coverage to Protect Your Privacy,Floral Blossom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076KMWB8Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_N-YnDbGGY2PYM
I'm more modest, but I feel like this does a good job without being overly obvious: http://www.amazon.com/Jolly-Jumper-Pashmama-Nursing-Cover/dp/B004I8M5VC/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2AF413U0JSAQJ&coliid=I3LTV8NZXHW79Q
I wear scarves constantly in the fall/winter so this just works for me, and then I dont need to go crazy with the nursing tops.
2 $10 gifts
don't go talking too loud you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones
Thanks for the contest!!
I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nursing-Breastfeeding-Maddie-Moo-Breastfeed/dp/B0173VF0GM
I like the plastic lip at the top that ensures that I can see my baby while I'm feeding her.
I’ve tried several nursing covers, and I keep coming back to this one . It has a structured neckline so it stays off baby’s face and you can just look down to see baby instead of using another hand to hold the fabric. It also folds up into an attached carrying pouch that’s super convenient. It’s not the most attractive nursing cover in my opinion, but it’s the most functional of the ones I’ve tried.
https://www.amazon.com/Nursing-Cover-Breastfeeding-Scarf-Stroller/dp/B074W6K8M2
here's an example, there's a billion like these stretchy ones.
Simple solution my wife uses
At 6 months we were starting feeding every 3-4 hours, he was introduced to solids but not a big fan at the beginning. My cover is this one https://www.amazon.es/BebeChic-Cotton-Breastfeeding-Cover-105cm/dp/B00B6XK7YO I can see baby’s face and he can see mine ;) also not sure where in Europe you’re going but in Spain many shopping centres have a breastfeeding room.
Try the udder cover. It is designed so that you can look at your baby and still be covered if you are shy about breastfeeding in public.
I'm in the UK, and you have a legal right to breastfeed in public. To try and prevent a mother from breastfeeding in any public space including shops and restaurants counts as sex discrimination and harrassment. That said, there might be areas in this country where women don't feel comfortable doing it due to people staring or making stupid comments. Personally, I'm self-conscious so I'll be using this.
I used it as an excuse for a break and excused myself with family.
But when we were out I would use a cover that had a wire, it allowed me to see baby and let air in / keep the cover off his head (which seemed to bother him) because it made a little tent.
ignore the stupid brand name
> The main issue with making a law to cover up breasts, is that it makes it illegal to breastfeed your child anywhere outside of your home.
Do they not have nursing covers or simple blankets in Canada? I find that hard to believe. Saying it's illegal to breastfeed anywhere it's illegal to expose breasts is a ridiculous statement.
