Exercise has been a godsend for me. I used to live in a place where I could easily surf and hike and after moving I found the normal gym thing unappealing and sort of boring. Not sure why it is so easy now but probably has to do with how great it makes me feel. :) The cardio in particular brings such a rush and calming zen state.

I always liked the green powder drinks. My fave is this one called "Capra Greens" by Mount Capra. Goat Whey with lots of minerals and tastes way better than any other I've tried. Awesome in smoothies. You probably know about the cardio stuff of target heart rate. It's based on your resting heart rate, age, and such. I sometimes only speed walk / run for 20 minutes at the gym but that's more than enough to bring all that happy juice. :)

Do you mean your TSH was 80.56? Or T4 was 80.56?

TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. It is released by the pituitary gland to tell the thyroid to release more thyroid hormones. If TSH is high, that is like your pituitary glad screaming at your unresponsive thyroid, so no surprise that your thyroid hormone levels were also low. That usually indicates that you need to increase your dose.

I have Hashi's and I take 146 ish mg of NatureThroid along with Hyperbiotics PRO-15 Advanced probiotics, B-complex with coenzymes, Iron, Magnesium, Omega 3-6-9, Selenium and D3-5000IU. I have tried to reduce the number of supplements I take but they all help. I sometimes take Zinc as well. I quit coffee and take caffeine pills instead and I am (not super strictly, but working on it) gluten and soy free.

The first time I took Nature Throid after switching from generic levothyroxine all of my symptoms were about 80% GONE. We increased my dose from 1/4 grain to the current 2+1/4 grain over the course of maybe 6 months.

What really fixed things for me was going gluten and soy free and adding magnesium and selenium. The selenium reduced my antibodies from nearly 500 to 100 in six months. That alone made a huge difference. And going gluten/soy free allowed me to lose 20 lbs in a month and then maintain it pretty easily just logging my calories.

Occasionally, due to poor planning, I eat regular bread or some pizza and I am sapped of energy and achy for a week afterwards. I'm working on getting into the habit of always having gluten free options on hand. But generally speaking, I feel better than I've felt my entire life.

I've never heard of having an immune response to desiccated thyroid. I've done very well on Nature Throid. You may want to get labs done every 6 weeks to check your levels and adjust your dose as needed.

Hey all! Some of y’all may have saw my older post, so it’s a pleasure to come back in only just two weeks with some progress. I’ve had a shift in routine since then. What you see is flat red marks, and just two raised bumps.

First of all, I’d like to thank those that recommended Azelaic acid because holy moly I think it made a big difference. And I also feel the same about the benzoyl peroxide contact therapy. There was a point where I dropped my BHA and AHA and just used Melazepam morning and night for a few days, but then I learned that you get the same results just using it once a day. I now alternate my BHA and AHA in the evenings.

Another thing I started was taking Spearmint Capsules! I haven’t been taking them long enough to say they’re working, but I will say that I’m thankful another breakout hasn’t tarnished my progress again yet. (Knock on wood)

I actually haven’t visited the derm like many recommended because I really wanted to try the spearmint capsules first to see if they could control my hormonal acne alongside my BC. If my skin foils me again, I’m off to the derm for sure.

Another oral product I’m taking is this women’s vaginal probiotic. Even though it’s targeted towards women’s health, it contains probiotic strains beneficial for targeting acne according to Simple Skincare Science.

Lastly, I definitely prefer Skinlex’s formulation of niacinamide over TO’s. There’s really nice beneficial ingredients, and it’s only $13.60!


Routine:

AM:

• Dr. Song’s 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide gel when I wake up (wait for ten minutes and then wash off)
• Vanicream Gentle Cleanser
• Melazepam (20% Azelaic acid cream)
• Habo Labo Skin Plumping Gel Cream mixed with a couple pumps of Skinlex 2% Alpha-Arbutin Serum (includes Niacinamide and MAP Vitamin C)
• Cerave in the tub
• Biore UV bright milk SPF 50+ (pink bottle)

PM:

• Remove makeup with Kose softymo speedy cleansing oil
• Vanicream Gentle Cleanser
• alternate nights between stridex in the red box and 10% Mandelic acid serum
• Habo Labo Skin plumping gel cream mixed with the Skinlex 2% Alpha-arbutin
• Cerave in the tub

Every other night:

• De la Cruz 10% Sulphur ointment (apply to face and wash off after 15 min)

Weekly:

• MUAC 40% mandelic acid chemical peel

• After my chemical peel, I’ll add a couple pumps of Skinlex 10% Niacinamide serum to my Habo Labo skin plumping gel cream instead of using the 2% Alpha Arbutin

Posted this on your r/vegan post, but I figure it might help someone here who might not otherwise see it.

You need to see an allergist. It sounds to me like you’ve got oral allergy syndrome, which is basically where you’re allergic to the pollens of foods that are in the same family or otherwise structurally similar. It’s not at all uncommon, but you need to see an allergist because you need to make sure there’s no underlying cause. Also, because OAS can be a bit, erm, unpredictable in that you don’t always realize that you’re eating something that will trigger your allergies, you will probably want to have an Epi-Pen and/or emergency inhaler in the event you have a severe reaction. If your allergist deems it a good idea, keep them on or near you at all times, and remember to get replacements whenever they expire. I’ve gone years without having to use my Epi-Pen but I still have several within easy reach regardless of where I am. I also have made sure that all the people I’m around regularly know where they are and how to use them.

Get evaluated for celiac and related disorders. This would be done by a gastroenterologist, which you will likely need a referral from your PCP to see. Given your inability to keep weight on, I would wager that you have some sort of malabsorption issue — the most commonly occurring one being celiacs. Celiac.org has a symptom list that might be helpful. Another one that has more info.

Have your vitamin/mineral levels checked, in particular Vitamin D. Low levels of Vit D can indirectly cause malabsorption problems. There are a handful of other vitamins/minerals that can cause the same thing, but they are almost always related to low D levels. Fix the levels, and you’ll begin to feel better, although you’ll never be able to undo the damage that’s already been done if this is what the issue is.

Try a stomach acid supplement and/or digestive enzymes. Low stomach acid is a relatively unknown problem that can cause malabsorption issues, amongst other things. I use this one because it’s cheap and I’ve yet to find one that works as well. Edit: This one is not vegan, but as I said, I’ve yet to find something that actually works and is vegan. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know. Keep in mind that every person is different, so what works for me might not work for you. For example, I have a friend with the same disorder as me, but these give her an upset stomach and the ones that she takes (don’t recall the brand) don’t do anything for me. If you don’t want to buy anything like this, you can test if this is your issue by taking apple cider vinegar. The usual starting point is a tablespoon taken about 20 minutes after you eat. For me, I found that I needed more and taking it before I eat was often more helpful.

As someone else mentioned, try pre- and probiotics. This is a brand that’s frequently recommended in the zebra, although I’ve known a couple people who felt they’re too strong. Edit: This one is vegan. This is something else that’s been recommended with good success. Two tablespoons daily, usually in the morning, although it’s more than fine to take more. I know at least one person who drinks it rather than water and swears by it. I also give it to my dog with stomach issues, and he drinks it exclusively even though water is also available. An electrolyte replacement would be a good idea as well. LyteShow (Amazon link) is the brand I prefer, but there are several other brands available. Stay away from things like Gatorade/Powerade and other “sports drinks”. While they’re good in theory, most of them are no better than soda.

Do some reading about gastroparesis, mast cell activation syndrome, dysautonomia, and autism in adults. They’re all related, and chances are high that you’ll at least find some insight into how to manage your symptoms even if you don’t find all the answers.

You are not alone, and your symptoms are not unusual. It’s not “all in your head”, nor is it a result of “being picky”. Unfortunately, it is up to you to advocate for yourself and find a medical team that won’t brush you off. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you about changing your diet suddenly. I understand wanting to change it, to be better as quickly as possible, but you can shock your system when there’s underlying issues. Take it slow, find things that work for you, and go from there.

Wow, that's all the professional advice your doc could give? D:
Let me tell you, I used to have issues where whenever I'd get sick, my vayenya would be the first to act up. If that happened, I would immediately cut back on carbs and sugar as /u/leesebro said. But there's also a magic weapon: coconut oil.
After you shower, try applying some coconut oil in and around your vulva. (might be good to put some on your anus too, I've never tried it but I don't see why it wouldnt help with relief). I've heard of people soaking their tampons in coconut oil and popping it in for a few hours, but I've never done it that way, and I'm not sure how long you need to do it. But I can almost promise you that if it doesn't clear it up, it will at least give you significant relief. And best of all, its natural and cheap! No stupid chems.

Since this has been plaquing you for a few years, I'd def suggest drinking lots of water and getting a good live culture probiotic. Not all probiotics do the job right, but that one I linked has helped me have a happy, healthy vajin.

I am no doctor by any means. But you asked how to deal, and that's how I dealt and put that nonsense behind me. Feel free to pm me too about if you want :)

edit: ugh! sorry but your husband sounds like a bag of dicks. Its hard enough for you to deal with that, he should be your #1 supporter while you work through this. When you get better (and you will!) I hope you make sex with him on your terms.

NAD. You poor thing, I've dealt with this my whole life but I don't have IC, just unexplained chronic cystitis.

Get yourself a bottle of cider vinegar, and put a teaspoon in a 500ml bottle of water or a tablespoon in a litre bottle. Just add cider vinegar to any water you're drinking, it will help.

Are you in the States? Azo is an amazing OTC urinary pain analgesic, it is a lifesaver.

While being on Humira (weekly) I just find that my stomach is really noisy at the join between stomach/duodenum and small/large intestine - my self diagnosis from "echo location" from the grumbles :-) This also happens to be where my crohn's is located so maybe my disease is just progressing more.

Long-story short: By taking lots of probiotics I've reduced my stomach noise to basically nil, and i've seen a large improvement in my BM. Whenever I stop taking them (a weekend away that involves alcohol, or eating yeast'y things) i notice a strong return of symptoms.

This sounds exactly like my son. We frequently had him sleep in his swing at night to get him to stay asleep, he hated diaper changes, arched his back but he was gaining weight really well and rarely spat up. He was put on ... I think Zantac? One of those, in liquid form. It takes two weeks to fully kick in, I think, but it was awesome. As he grew older we tried to wean him off of it a couple times - one time he obviously still needed it after a few days without it. We also tried putting him on probiotics and either the probiotics helped or he had outgrown the reflux by then (sixish months I think). The probiotics we use The probiotics were also helpful with the 723748239 rounds of antibiotics he's been on due to ear infections (protip: get the flavor added if your pharmacy does that service. So worth the $2.)

Super interesting article. Been dealing with digestive & autoimmune issues (arthritis being the worst) for 5 years and have been treated for nearly everything but nothing really "fixed" my issues (constant bloating and burping, brain fog, total carb intolerance, yeast overgrowth, etc) until I stumbled across d-lactic acid 2 weeks ago. I started using bimuno, culturelle, and align and have made more progress in reducing my symptoms in the last 14 days than I have in the past 5 years!

I've been on the AIP diet for nearly two years and have followed FODMAPs for over 3.5 years which helped prevent symptom worsening but was never going to correct my issues. I'm still in shock at how much better I feel by using the 3 supplements above. I've used dozens of supplements and spent a horrifying amount of money on them over the years but never felt anywhere close to as healthy and happy as I do now, my anxiety pretty much disappeared overnight.

There are reviews there that say it cured their yeast problems.

If she is willing to try the probiotics, you should couch PIV sex for maybe a month or two and see how she is feeling on the probiotics.

If she is able to receive oral or be stimulated with your fingers (not in her vagina) without pain, then maybe ask her if you both can concentrate on each other through oral and manual stimulation while hopefully the probiotics help start to keep the yeast at bay (hopefully it will work).

The fact she can't enjoy PIV probably lowers her sex drive so maybe if you can both concentrate on pleasing each other in other ways, her libido might start coming back again.

But in the end, you would be justified in ending the relationship so that you can find a partner you can have sex with.

I just wanted to chime in and mention two things that have been immensly helpful for him:

  1. Probiotics - like this one (make sure to refrigerate!). My husband uses the 100 billion culture.

  2. Bison! - bison is INSANELY low in fat and ridiculously delicious! My husband gets quite bored with chicken and soups, so finding bison was like winning a prize.

Less is more, be careful taking anything that might be stimulative.

In my case I introduced more vegetables and occasionally eat paleo/primal meals (but have yet to adopt it completely), along with a basic multivitamin/mineral once a week.

Supplement wise, it's hard to say what really helps. Anything that does provide improvement will be minimal.

The only things I personally used (and still use) is Turmeric+black pepper (this brand specifically), for the anti-inflammatory benefits -- during benzo withdrawal I should imagine inflammation is increased.

After recovery I introduced probiotics, because years of benzo usage, and often the things we do while on benzos can't be good for the gut. Some of them can (in theory) help improve our mental state, and indeed the brain-gut link is often underestimated. (I used this one for 30 days, and now I'm using Primadophilus Reuteri, once it runs out I will probably just take 1 a week of a general one)

It is hard to say if any of these had any significant benefit, because I have been using them for months and haven't really stopped.

Recently (now that I'm 6 months clean) I added Lion's mane for the nerve healing benefits (specifically Time health's brand) -- but I probably won't take it long term (just a few weeks of 'treatment').

I think you mean probiotics. What did you take? The strain with the most research into its efficacy is B. infantis 35624, which is only available through Align. It's pricey, but for some people it seems to work miracles. I'm only a few days in to trying it so the verdict is still out for me.

In general, it looks to me as though bifidobacteria are the preferred genus of probiotics for treatment of IBS, particularly of the species B. longum (which includes infantis), and somebody here claimed to have some success with this bifidobacteria probiotic. Hope this is of help.

I’ve been taking a probiotic that has a bit of St John’s Wort. It definitely helps with the anxiety issue. It’s fairly mild and organic so you won’t feel like you’re just stacking uppers and downers.

I found them helpful myself. Long time suffer of ibs-d. i have tried a few different ones, started with align but thought it costs to much. Then did one by UAS labs and that was good but had a hard time finding and also expensive but liked better than align.

I tried schiff brand with bad results. Could be the timing and not the product.

I have been using this product and i have been very happy with it and its cheap. I also can buy it locally at costco for even cheaper. I take 2 a day with dinner.

I absolutely dealt with this problem! This was my main symptom after going gluten free, but not fully recovering. I started to think that nausea was the natural state of living. Your body needs to be repopulated with good bacteria. (Our body is, after all, 9/10th made up of bacteria)

TL;DR: Try adding niacin and lithium orotate, and look into tDCS or even TMS.

I can relate to what you're going through. I've been on Wellbutrin (300mg/daily) for the past 9 years, and I know it helps raise the lower floor of my depression. (I know this because, at the end of a 6-month hiatus to see if it was having any effect, I was worse than my worst days 20 years ago.) But it doesn't seem to do a whole lot more than that for me. I'm also on Vyvanse (40mg) for ADD, which it seems to help, but even though its a stimulant, it doesn't have much of a stimulatory effect on me. (This was true on a prescription for Adderall, as well; often were the times I'd take an Adderal with my morning vitamins and Wellbutrin and just go back to sleep for a few more hours.).

In addition to Wellbutrin and Vyvanse, here's what I've done or am doing that has helped incrementally with each addition. Your mileage may vary:

  • B12 (10,000mcg sublingual)
  • Caffeine (200mg in morning and afternoon)
  • Garden of Life Mood+ Probiotics
  • Phenibut (750mg, followed by 500mg 4-8 hours later)^1
  • Niacin (500mg 4x/day)^2
  • Lithium Orotate (5mg/day)^3
  • tDCS: DLPFC F3+ and Supra Orbital Fp2- at 2mA for 20 min^4

    ^1 Phenibut: only on days when the barometer is dropping appreciably below mean sea-level atmospheric pressure. I'm serious.

    ^2 Niacin: I learned of this one in this subreddit, I think. I titrated up to 2,000mg/day over the course of a week, and I try to take it with food in my stomach. But it has to be the regular niacin that causes the flushing the first week or so until your body is used to it, not the "extended release" or "no-flush" varieties.

    ^3 I only recently learned this is available as a mineral supplement. Anecdotally, 5mg is about what you get from lithium occurring naturally in some well-water supplies. My psychiatrist said 5mg isn't even one percent of the amount they give people to stabilize them in a clinical setting, but he also said I was welcome to try it if I wanted. I've only been on this for a week and a half and it may only be helping me sleep, but at least that.

    ^4 Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation: Did my research, including lurking on /r/tDCS, ended up getting that SSD model I linked to above. My psychiatrist wants me to look into whether Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) would be covered by my insurance (for example, from one of these places), and I said I would, but I first wanted to try this lower-cost, easier-to-implement method of tDCS -- since they are related therapies and target the same neuron areas of the brain, basically. He told me to go ahead and give it a try.

    I have to say the last week, with the lithium and the tDCS, has felt mostly different for me. I think it's everything on the list, cumulatively, probably, but it feels especially like it could be the tDCS making the bigger difference, which I've only been doing for a week now. The device could be little more than a "Placebometer 3000," but I know that I tried a lower amperage (1mA) on Sunday and then tried a different montage (placement of electrodes) on Monday, and neither one seemed to be as effective, but today, returning to the initial one I listed above, I feel back on track.

I'll third this comment. Whole Psyllium Husk makes you nice and regular...almost life changing and I'm not exaggerating. It's also good to take with water about 30 minutes before a meal to fill you up before you eat. Though a word of warning, it swells in water...great for filling up your stomach but if you let it sit it will swell up before you drink it and then you'll have to eat it like cream of wheat.

I recommend working your way up from 1 tablespoons to 2 then to 3...if you increase the dose too fast, your body biome won't acclimate properly and you'll get loose shits and instead of nice logs. The cheapest I've found is the Now Whole Psyllium Husk on Amazon.

I also use the Now Probiotic.. I'm now very regular with a good BM or two everyday and no more IBS or hemorrhoids.

They have it at Kroger and Walmart, but I forget to buy them so I prefer the subscription.

The recipe:
Step 1: buy a douche, whole milk plain yogurt and distilled water. (Don't refrigerate the water)
Step 2: get a plastic cup or chode cup w/e you can use to easily pour with.
Step 3: empty the douches contents in the stick and rinse. Then fill the bottle up with distilled water.
Step 4: pour the measured water into the cup and add 2 tbsp of yogurt. Stir until consistent.
Step 5: pour your yogurt mix into the douche. You will probably have too much mix but that's okay.
Step 6: I can't stand cold stuff touching my girly parts so I usually microwave it for 5 seconds or so. Now you lay down
In the tub and try to angle your lower half upward. Give the douche a little shake and pull the applicator until you hear it click.
Step 7: insert the douche as far as you can will while still being comfortable and gently squeeze. Once it starts to drip down your butt you know your canal is full, but don't stop squeezing until it is empty.
Step 8: set a timer for 5-10 mintues ans try not to push the solution out. The goal is to keep it in for as long as possible.
You're all done! Just clean with the soap you normally use! Bam!

I got three in the span of six months once for no reason, and I haven't had one since then. Honestly, sometimes they just happen. :/ There are things you can do that may be able to help, aside from what you already know, such as a women's probiotic to help balance good bacteria (antibiotics don't discriminate) and eating a healthy diet. Oregano essential oil (oregano in general, really) is very helpful when battling bad bacteria, so you could try cooking with it or taking some of the oil in empty glycerin capsules.

Tell her to start taking probiotics, that may just clear everything up unless like a another person said, its an infection or STD of some sort.

Start her with these. it doesn't need to be that brand, but you want about 50 billion. Have her take it in the morning before breakfast. Make sure she doesn't eat or drink anything for at least half hour (the pill needs to go through the stomach into the intestines).

See how she is in two weeks. If it is an improvement, then she can lower it to about 5 billion which she should take every day.

Hirsutism yes though under control, mostly occasional plucks instead of shaves for my face. Lower half of my body is a nightmare and how I was diagnosed, lol.

Hair might be thinning a bit, which is why I might be back on spironolactone soon.

Hormonal acne, yes but under control with religious Asian skin care and also slowing down a lot with weight loss and taking the myo-inositol and spearmint. I wholly recommend hitting up Asian skincare purely because it’s world’s cheaper than most western options and I’ve had miracles with it. I’m able to power through period breakouts.

Periods were unstable and still very rough, dry heaving included. I’m on birth control to limit it to 4x a year so I don’t miss class/work.

Weight managed with low carb diet and constant exercise - I’m big into strength training. It was however very midsection/stomach before I lost it (now at 130 lb)

It's really hard to recommend supplements to another person and say with certainty that they will help, especially because there are so many potential culprits. If you suspect you're dealing with a hormonal imbalance you should see a doctor, that's not something you want to tinker with on your own without consulting a professional. I don't know your gender, but a lot of women swear by Spironolactone for treating hormonal imbalance.

You're right, antibiotics often do little if anything for the actual cause. I can tell you from very recent experience that it took me months to realize that both topical and oral antibiotics had only exacerbated my fairly minor skin issues. After looking up decent probiotic supplements, I started taking this one 2x daily (I keep it refrigerated to preserve potency) and I also drink kefir. If you'd like to avoid dairy there are non-dairy options such as coconut kefir.

Another thing I did was drastically, and I mean DRASTICALLY, reduce the amount of sugar, particularly refined sugar, I was ingesting. The combination of these two changes, along with my now Clyndamicin-free Curology formula, has significantly helped my skin - though none of it happened overnight.

That's just my experience though, to be safe you should talk your doctor before making any major changes to your diet and/or taking supplements.

Well n=1 and all but after getting absolutely destroyed by multiple rounds antibiotics I realized after trying various drugs and supplements that my low energy and mood was low serotonin and that research was suggesting gut bacteria was a factor and started taking this stuff which I buy at local grocery stores and I started improving much more rapidly than I had been. The product quotes the 95% number as coming from the APA but that’s not where I saw it. They also claim a couple of the strains are shown to increase levels. You’re welcome to chase down the studies if you want but I already know it works, I’m not going to bother chasing them down again.

She had diarrhea for 10 days 2 summers ago. It finally stopped but the stomach pain didn't. Her dad has Crohn's so we got referring to a GI pretty quickly. A colonoscopy and endoscopy confirmed it.

I would try some probiotics first tho. See if that makes a difference. Here's a good one to try:

I second the use of Candida Support it is not strong enough to kill yeart but it weakens it so your body can control it. You should also use consentrated probiotic pills Probiotis each pill has 10 different bacteria from 3 different family's of bacteria. Acidophilus alone wont cut it. Finally Stop eating Kefir and Kombucha, at least for the time being. Both are SCOBY's , Symbiotic cultures of Bacteria and Yeast. Your pumping you system with more yeast. Finaly help your system expel the weakend yeast enzymes yeast make sticky biofilms to protect the colonies. These Enzymes will help break them down so the candida support and probiotics can do there jobs.

Here is the one I use. I had read that 30 million or more is best, and it has to be the 10 strain version or more. I was going to try 50 million if this didn't work, but 30 works for me. I store them in the fridge, though I don't think it's necessary.

I've had symptoms for the past year or so ever time I would eat. I couldn't really figure out what foods were causing it because it would be random. Other things I've tried are Align, this stuff, eating a bowl of kimchee every day, and one other brand that I can't recall the name of that had like 7 strains. I've never tried the ones you mentioned.

Like any "treatment" that people use to deal with IBS, everyone's reaction is different. Everyone's IBS is different. Probiotics have helped a lot of people, including myself, but it also doesn't for a lot of people. Probiotics also take a lot of trial and error. There are so many brands and strains out there. Personally, Align did nothing for me but these made a huge difference. IBS is not a definitive diagnosis, it's just what doctors call it when they have ruled out everything else.

Geez! 10 years on a constant antibiotic! I was on a low dose antibiotic for chronic bladder infections for about a year and even that amount of time did serious damage to my gut biome.

There are many available in pill form. I've had them prescribed after going through an antibiotic treatment, since they kill beneficial bacteria as well as dangerous bacteria.
