The main thing you need to concentrate on is hydration, once that issue is tackled, you might find that your skin doesn’t need all those actives but that’s for the future. For now your routine (according to your skin state right now) would look like this:
Am:
Pm:
Hope this helps a little.
I randomly came across that photo yesterday (god knows why I took it in the first place, I was in a taxi in Beijing) but I had no idea my hyperpigmentation had faded so much since that photo was taken in April 2018. I don't do anything too special, the usual sort of stuff, but I have to say Skinceuticals CE Ferulic has definitely made the most difference. I got it to see if it lived up to the hype, and damn it, it did lol. Although I am "lucky" (good job, no kids, aka I am very fortunate to have some money to spend) that it doesn't totally break the bank, but dang is it expensive, just based on principle! I guess I'm sticking with it, though!
I used to just wash my face at night and in the morning in the shower, and then a friend of mine was talking to me about her "routine" one day (she's older than I and has FLAWLESS skin) which got me Googling. Which brought me to this and other skincare subs. There ensued borderline obsession. I have a ways to go, but I honestly didn't realize how far I've come! After a lifetime of doing the bare minimum, getting into a routine was kind of a drag, but once I started to see that I needed less makeup to make my skin look even, I was totally on board and now I really look forward to it every morning and night, thanks in no small part to this sub!ETA: Wow, you girls/guys are SO nice and making me feel so special! I honestly feel like I don't know what I'm doing and I swear every day I'm googling "Does X conflict with Y"? Haha. But here is what I have been doing:
Morning: Simple toner.
Skinceuticals CE Ferulic.
Kiehl's moisturizer with a couple drops of The Ordinary's squalane.
Biore Aqua Rich sunscreen (this stuff is the shit!)

PM:
Cetaphil cream wash.
Neutrogena oil wash (I hate the smell of this - will not be re-purchasing!).
The Ordinary Grand Emulsion 2%.
The Ordinary Buffet.
The Ordinary Rosehip oil.
The Ordinary HA Factors moisturizer if I'm feeling particularly dry that day, but lately I haven't been needing to use this because the rosehip oil is soooo moisturizing.

Twice a week: The Ordinary AHA + BHA peel.
Few times a week: Random sheet masks I pick up :-P (I live in Asia so I have a nice supply of random different masks on hand!).
At least once week: Innis Free volcanic clay mask (love this stuff!).Oh! And I also dermaplane every sunday using these cheap little things I get on Amazon. It's my little Sunday ritual. You know, like church. My face feels like a baby seal, and I mean really, isn't that the end goal here?

Like I said, I don't know what I'm doing LOL. But this seems to be working so I'll keep at it! If anyone sees I'm doing anything obviously stupid, tell me, please :)
Hi! I have very dry, often dehydrated, extremely sensitive/reactive skin. Pardon the following infodump :)
I have had really great results with some Asian skincare! I have used the following products with great success:
Banila Co Nourishing Cleansing Balm for Dry Skin - Double cleansing has changed my life, no hyperbole. I don't get tiny blackheads any more. I use this first, and the idea is that it washes away any oil soluble stuff, like sebum, sunscreen, makeup, etc.
Hada Labo Tokyo Gentle Hydrating Cleanser - Even if you only want to use one cleanser, I recommend this over Cetaphil any day. It is super gentle and does not dry out my skin AT ALL, even when I was using it alone before I started double cleansing. You only need the tiniest amount and it foams up into a rich, satisfying lather, so the bottle lasts forever.
Pyungkang Yul Essence Toner - I use this after cleansing and allow it to soak in entirely before any next step. If my skin is particularly dehydrated I do it a couple few times.
Hada Labo Japan Gokujun Premium - This is a serum type product that has 4 molecular sizes of hyaluronic acid AND urea, both of which dry skin is severely lacking. Helps me get my glow on. (tip: HA works by attaching to water molecules, so if you live in a dry climate you will need to spritz your face with water after this soaks in and allow the HA to do its thing)
CeraVe PM - This is pricier than CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, but I have found that my face likes it so much more. It soaks right in.
I love Asian skincare because for the most part you can find reasonably priced products that are formulated to let the active ingredients truly shine with no excess nonsense. I never used anything but Cetaphil until this year because my skin is SO sensitive, I can't even use regular laundry detergent. Discovering Asian skincare has been wonderful and I am truly excited about my results! If you are interested in learning more r/AsianBeauty is an amazing resource.
For your melasma , I would use a sunblock, most of the time that is caused by sun exposure so you don't want to undo whatever treatment for them you are doing.
For sunblock I would explore the Asian brands which designed to be cosmetically elegant and even if you buy them online, they aren't usually too expensive. A really popular brand is Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence. It can be purchased on Amazon. Another brand , Canmake gets really good reviews here on Reddit for being moisturizing and working well under makeup. It is moisturizing as well so during the day you probably won't need a separate moisturizer .
I would skin the brightening face washes and invest in face washes which will be gentle and non-drying. Facewashes aren't on the skin long enough IMO to really help.
Just depending how bad your melasma is , it just may not be able to correct using OTC products. It may need laser treatment but a few things you can try which is known to help is hydroquinone and 20% glycolic acid ( you will want to build up tolerance to 20% ).
I would also add vitamin C serum for skin brightening .
For a moisturizer , I love La Roche-Posay double repair. It has Niacinamide which has anti-aging benefits and it's very moisturizing. If you DO use the glycolic acid peels you will want something like this that can help restore your moisture barrier.
I'm still a skincare newbie but I'm into:
I like to keep a pretty minimal skin care/makeup routine. I also have a handful of face masks, none that I'm over the moon about.
I received these in a beauty box a while back and I wish I had more but I'm loving this new moisturizer so much I might not even need these eye pads! :)
I see "crows feet" and I think "dehydrated". So.
This one isn't specifically for the eye area but I really like how it goes on my skin. I put it on right after I use bakuchiol. I follow up with a primer. Even after using all this my makeup goes on perfectly. The Purito sunscreen (PURITO Centella Green Level Safe Sun SPF50+ PA++++,Broad Spectrum UVA1,2,UVB/oil-free suncream/non-nano system, Acne-prone skin) feels good but isn't moisturizing but the bakuchiol is moisturizing enough so it works out. I highly recommend it!
You look fantastic! I really like vanicream cleanser as a gentle cleanser. I use Cerave PM lotion it is a nice light moisturizer and it has niacinamide which is great for skin discoloration, and it soothes the skin. Another product I like because it helps with clogged pores and is gentle, and it has a different form of salicylic acid in it is CosRx Blackhead power liquid
Baking soda ingredient in natural deodorants typically cause itching and rashes. Try to use natural deodorants without baking soda. Organic 101 on Amazon has some great natural deodorants without baking soda and are also Usda organic so you can actually trust the ingredients.
.
if interested here is their amazon link. They have a 30 day money back guarantee as well if you dont like it:

I've been using https://www.amazon.com/Bakuchiol-Natural-Retinol-Alternative-Moisturizer/dp/B07Q25XXZL/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=bakuchiol&qid=1565642276&s=gateway&sr=8-3 that I get on Amazon and its been great on my skin. I got it about a month ago and its really working on my freckles and generally brightening my skin. I've tried retinoids in the past and it always made me break out in a rash. Like immediately. This stuff just feels so good on the skin and really moisturizes. No dryness. It seems to last a long time cuz I've been using it every morning after I wash my face and there's still like half a bottle. I'm not sure how it works except its supposed to support cellular turnover etc. So glad I discovered it since I really don't like using retinoids. I haven't had any purging.
My bad! I totally missed that. I don't have oily skin myself, however most people that do say washing their face only at night before bed with a gentle foaming cleanser (like Cerave foaming) and then just splashing with water or micellar water in the AM has helped their skin from producing so much oil. So you would wash at night, use your toner, and then your moisturizer. In the AM, splash with water or use micellar water on a cotton round, use your toner, and then moisturize and use sunscreen. This is the sunscreen my husband uses and loves. It's tinted so there is no white cast, and actually helps control oil. Don't be put off that it's tinted, it literally just disappears once you rub it in. Here is a link to the Cerave foaming cleanser. Link to the Cerave PM moisturizer. Now, I wouldn't buy everything at once and start this new routine. You will want to use something for a week or so and see if you have any reactions, that way if you break out or have an allergic reaction you will know what product caused it. If you want to use micellar water, I really like the brand Simple. As for the sunscreen, try to get into the habit of using it everyday. Even if you're inside. No need to use it at night tho. :-) I think you will notice a huge difference in your skin with this routine. Check out the r/skincareaddiction when you get a chance. After you get used to this new routine you will to start exfoliating, I prefer chemicals to exfoliate. So you can read up on the different types and what you think would work best. But remember to space everything out so your skin doesn't freak out. I would start with the face wash and sunscreen first, and go from there. If you have anymore questions let me know!
Yes, I definitely love my Biore too - here's an Amazon link if anyone wants to check it out: www.amazon.com/Biore-Aqua-Watery-Essence-SPF50/dp/B071H7P3T8
Sure! I tried several (ingredients pretty much the same and vegan collagen is a no go), but for mixing with my iced coffee (shaken) and no taste or lumps, I like the BioOptimal brand. I do this as subscribe & save on Amazon so I never run out. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LVZ7N8G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Disclaimer: Am a chick so I don't know shit about shaving the face/dryness from shaving/not shaving/whatevs.. However, the pimples with the whisker hairs man. I used to get this terrible ingrown hair pimple on my eyebrow. I think because I shaved those suckers off when I was a kid. ANYWAYS, a nice BHA cleared that right up. Also takes care of.. more delicate areas that are prone to those. I use the Cosrx BHA liquid once a day. You could try that and see if that helps. You def need to use a moisturizer every day if you use the BHA liquid. It's a little drying and can cause a brief period of purging where your skin breaks out.
Every single neutrogena product I've used has dried the hell out of my face/burned like the a thousand fiery suns. I switched to an Asian cleanser that is super gentle. It's about the only thing I can use without wanting to peel my skin off.
I also use a Japanese SPF because their SPF is so much better than American SPF. It doesn't have that funky sunscreen smell and feels like a lotion.
I don't use toner so I can't help with that one.
And my general go to recs for moisturizer involve snail slime and idk how you feel about that.
Skincare is a lot of trial and error in my experience. You kinda have to search for things that work for you.
For summer my main concern is SPF; in winter my concern is dryness.
No idea if this is similar but I bought it on a Strategist recommendation and it's quite lovely: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HLN8VF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I would take a second look at that Effeclar foaming cleanser too. It has SLS as an ingredient (makes the foam), which can cause a lot of irritation. If you enjoy La Roche Posay, they do make a hydrating cleanser which might be better. I like this one too.
thoughts and prayers, this should help relieve any irritation caused by the ancient hand soap spirits in a few days
I'm currently using the one from Wildland Botanicals. It's on Amazon. Really happy with this oil.
You should wear sunscreen because of tretinoin. It also prevents hyperpigmentation (red marks) from getting worse. Sun exposure makes hyperpigmentation more prominent and slower healing.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 and hyaluronic acid like Hada Labo Premium Hyaluronic Solution will help with your dryness and flakiness.
In the US you can buy it on Amazon too. I think this is the PM moisturizing lotion we’re talking about here
No problem! Right now I'm using this one and really liking it: https://www.amazon.com/Bakuchiol-Natural-Retinol-Alternative-Moisturizer/dp/B07Q25XXZL/
