It took me about an hour and a half, but that was after already having done the dis-assembly to get to the spark plugs once before. Roughly half of that was actually changing the plugs and the other half was dis-assembling and re-assembling the air intake tubing and valve assembly before and after. You could definitely do it faster if you knew what you were doing - this was my first time changing spark plugs on any vehicle.

One thing I wasn't explicitly warned about and therefore didn't realize is the atypical spark plug diamater: 14mm. I tried to change the plugs last weekend and realized only when I got to removing the first spark plug that the spark plugs aren't standard 3/8 or 5/8 inch diameter, so my sockets wouldn't work. The HR engine (at least) takes 14mm - I think all VQ35s might take the same. I ordered this socket off amazon.ca since I was able to get fast shipping. It seems 14mm plug sockets advertised for BMWs will do the trick.

I ordered these spark plugs off ebay.ca, the whole set of 6 NGK laser iridium plugs was just under $100 USD. I made an effort to get the best plugs I could find, so you could probably find cheaper if you wanted. I think it's worth it to spend the extra ~$50 for the best though.

Sure thing man:

  • Tape off all of the parts around the headlights. I would recommend using plastic bags instead of newspaper since wetsanding will get the newspaper wet and you'll need to clearcoat it.
  • Prep the headlights. I would recommend washing it down with water or even acetone, but not too much. Just enough to get the dirt off.
  • Grab 1000 grit sandpaper and wetsand it in a horizontal direction. Be sure to keep it hydrated at all times! I would recommend doing this by hand because I almost fucked my headlights up with a power tool since I wasn't keeping it hydrated enough. Doing it by hand will ensure it'll always have water. Do this until it's hazy.
  • Grab 3000 grit sandpaper and wetsand it in a vertical direction. Again, keep it hydrated and I also recommend doing this by hand. After you're done doing a few passes of this, the headlights should be super hazy, but they should also be a white-ish color.
  • Grab your clearcoat spray and give it a couple heavy coats of clearcoat and the haze will literally turn clear like magic. Let it dry for about a day and it'll be good as new!

Some kits provide a rubbing compound to place after the sanding process (Meguiar's for example). If you plan on clearcoating your headlights (which I highly recommend doing as it keeps it looking new longer), SKIP THIS PROCESS. The rubbing compound causes a reaction with the acetone in the clearcoat and will damage your headlights and you'll have to do it all over again.

    Here are some resources:

  • ChrisFix's video, which I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEJbKLZ7RmM My steps are slightly different from his, but both work form my experience
  • Clearcoat I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078WLTSX4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You're roughly looking at about $20-$30 to fix your headlights up. I'll post some pics in a second

I have the Atoto A6 with backup camera and front camera.

Really good, kinda wish the Pro was out when I bought it last year.
I used this backup camera off amazon. LOVE IT.
Fits perfectly into the license plate light , sleek and hardly noticable. I can snap a pic later tonight

Buy This

C-clamps and a wrench is cheaper, but by god, does this tool make it easy and clean to push the piston back in. It's worth the $50, one time cost, and you don't have to sit there trying to manhandle a caliper in mid-air while trying to torque on it with the other hand.

u/runamok · 4 pointsr/350z

I am assuming you have the non-bose setup.

The short answer IIRC is you need a line level adapter to RCA(from the existing rear speakers perhaps) to RCA adapter for your subs. Don't get that one but you get the idea. Better ones. Look at monoprice.com or crutchfield, etc. Personally I would suggest you just buy a new double din head unit instead as they usually come with RCA inputs and you won't have to lose your current rear speakers.

I tend to like to buy from crutchfield because they include a wiring harness and adapter usually.

I have one that mounts in the CD slot. I can't find the specific one, but this is pretty close.

It works, and because I don't use the stereo at all (I listen to podcasts on my phone with earbuds) it's not in the way. I wanted something that wouldn't take up valuable windshield space.

There are downsides. First, obviously, it renders the stereo just about unusable. Second, it doesn't work very well in the Z. For whatever reason, it only goes about halfway into the CD slot. It works fine on my other two cars. It stays put for the most part, but it's kinda bouncy.

Also, it's super cheap, and that makes me happy.

u/trevorbr2 · 1 pointr/350z

Here you go. It works pretty awesome and it makes your car look all shiny. 😀😊

I got it from Amazon: SCOSCHE NN1456B 2006-Up Nissan 350z Double DIN or DIN w/pocket Install Dash Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NWEJVQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eTeZAbE7B3PXQ

It’s a perfect fit and was super easy to install.

u/funnyman850 · -2 pointsr/350z

Paint them. Super easy. It could also be quicker. Here's my car with my wheels painted. The top is the stocks and the bottom is my new wheels. Just sand and then paint. Takes like an hour if you're efficient. 4 if you're slow.

Links:

  • Nissan Z Metal Keychain = $13.98

  • Red Remote Keyless Entry = $5.38

  • Extra Remote Keyless Entry = $6.54

    Notes:

The Z keychain isn't sharp (corners) at all; I don't even notice it in my pocket.

The red remote is just a plastic shell and rubber buttons. You need to either take the circuit board and battery out of a current key fob, which is extremely easy, or order an extra remote (3rd link) to use the internals from it. Reprogramming a new keyless remote is even easier than swapping the "guts" out, and it comes with instructions. A quick Google search will also reveal said instructions.

Even though the extra remote says "2003-2006," it will work with 2007. In my case, the car only came with one remote. This was a pretty cheap (and unique) option for an extra. It works perfectly, just like the original key fob.

Look around on Amazon for extra colors. I have seen blue and red, but not sure about white or any others.

3m makes a great adhesive remover that you attach to a power tool: https://www.amazon.com/3M-03612-Adhesive-Eraser-Wheel/dp/B005RNGN8I

also check our r/AutoDetailing they have stuff related to this asked about every other day and there are quite a few who will be more than happy to give some tips.

You can actually get chrome painted bulbs that still light up orange. I have them on my Z and they look great. Here an amazon link... it seems like it's a motorcycle thing. You could also go led too. https://www.amazon.com/Chrome-Amber-Wedge-Globe-Signal/dp/B076JGZS7L/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=signal+chrome+bulb&qid=1563381438&s=gateway&sr=8-7

u/vitalsyntax · 2 pointsr/350z

It was extremely easy. I used this wiring diagram: http://s222.photobucket.com/user/HOTTTiEBOi7/media/g35_pacoem2_to_jvs_kw-avx820_zps17433e60.jpg.html
I had to splice some wires, but everything was plug and play from there. I wouldn't recommend the headunit/adapter combo I got because I had to sand down the adapter a bit to fit it over the head unit.

Key Fob Link:

(KeylessOption Keyless Entry Remote Car Uncut Flip Key Fob Control Replacement for KBRASTU15 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MA5I17H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mPOKDbJ54TZJD)

Link as to how to do this:

This is the key fob I ordered. It stated it was the same model as my original key fob. Lowes refused to cut the key though, luckily Home Depot reluctantly did it for me. I did have to seperate my original car key to retrieve the transponder (black square visible from the base of the key) and insert it into where they have one inside. It just wouldnt work since it was not programmed for my car. It works great now though, my only complaint is that the range is not as long on this one.

It was this one man https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01G1JKZOE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you do end up finding one where you dont have to drill into the hatch please lemme know! :)

These are the headlights

My original ones were very faded and the UV coating was gone, wasn't worth restoring in my opinion.

Are you talking about another key? Or the electronic key fob with buttons to open things? The key fob can be found on amazon for under 10 bucks. They can be programmed to work with your car with a couple minutes of setup.
