So...... what was wrong?|I think sometimes you meet someone and you see the great side of them, and they see that in you, and you overlook your differences. Then enough time passes and you learn to love so much about each other, but then those differences surface again, and this time you love each other far more...which makes the fear of losing the other one even more unbearable to think about. Eventually, those differences surface and you must acknowledge that maybe you just aren't all that happy together. Once you bring that emotion to light, there is no going back.|Here
Have you authored any other books? Sorry to hear about your situation. I'm far too familiar with loneliness myself.|I wrote and published a book for musicians years ago, but this is the first book that I wrote for me and not with big dollar signs attached to it. I just had so many things I wanted to say, and I needed an outlet to process my emotions that were hitting me like bullets. Art has always been there for me, in good times and bad, and this time I wanted to share how I felt with other people..I guess I just don't feel like wanting to do this all alone this time around.|Here
I don't acctually have a question I just wanted to ask you how you're doing and to say good job on the ama. Your doing a great job answering everyone's questions.|Thank you for your kind words. My friend told me to do the AMA and I am trying my best to be an open book. I am doing ok today. I have been processing this loss for months, but it being the wedding day and all, that's a bit rough. I am excited about the book though, and that really helps me smile today. Thank you for your comment. I hope you have a great day yourself.|Here
If you could pick a bouquet of poems (that aren’t your own) to describe what love is and what it means to you, what would you choose?|I would choose a book titled Words and Nothing More by Jonathan Lamoureux Horic . Beautiful, raw and real. https://www.amazon.ca/Words-Nothing-Jonathan-Lamoureux-Horic/dp/1727724038 Thanks for asking!|Here
I love to write poetry and I'm an aspiring author. How did you become published?|First off, keep writing! and Thank you for your question. I knew that I had a great shot at getting this one published through a company, but I wanted to have it available on the day that was supposed to be my wedding (I know, that in itself is poetic haha). I ended up opting for self-publishing through Amazon, as they have been a great success for me in the past with a previous book (not related to poetry). I would say that you should find a book the size and style that you like, use that book as a template for your own, and then add all of your poems to it. Also, create an account on Kindle publishing to get things set up through Amazon, and when you wan to convert your book to an ebook, simply use Fiverr.com to get the job done cheap. Please feel free to share some of your poetry with me, either here or my Instagram @instadonnelly|Here
Congratusorrlationsy?|Now that is a word I can get behind hahaha. And it sums up the day for me haha. Thank you.|Here
your book is called conversations with ghost: so what are the names of the ghosts?|That is one hell of a question. But being vague seems lame. Kristy Helena Dyane Crystal Michelle And a few that are in there by proxy. No last names for obvious reasons :) Thank you for your question.|Here
looking back, do you think the marriage would have worked or was breaking up for the best?|We had our near misses more than a few times. I think we weren't meant to make it forever. Even if I wanted to continue to try and make it all work, sometimes you just know that the intensity isn't there enough to last a life time. It's still love, but then it becomes about being best friends, and then you both forget to talk about things. It's the silence that kills love. But yeah, I would say that breaking up was the right answer. Time will tell though. Thank you for asking.|Here
I'm sorry you had to go through that, but at least it happened BEFORE you got married. I was married once...she left me for a coworker. But as they say, "it's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." It does get better. I am happier now and although i dont agree with what she did, I am happy our relationship is over. You shouldnt want to be with anyone who doesn't want to be with you. It isn't fair to either of you. We only have one life, let's make the best of it by making it what we want it to be! Stay strong, my friend ☺|Thank you for this. Yes, I almost called my book "Just Friends" because that's what they always say hahah. I really appreciate your comment. Make it a great day!|Here
How did you publish it?|I was under a time constraint so I opted to self publish through Kindle Direct Publishing. Since my last book has been successfully launched through them before, it was something I was comfortable with. I wrote the book. Had it edited. Created the cover myself. Then launched the book on KDP. It's a great service that lets you decide your pricing structure and where you want to sell your book. I do want to make it clear that it is still VERY important that you edit, re edit, and edit again for good measure, before you hit that publish button.|Here
Do you feel less lonely now or when you were with your partner?|I feel more lonely for sure, but I also feel empowered that I can focus on me for a while and try to get things right in my own life|Here
I’m literally going through the same thing. I’ve been writing a ton. How did you go about getting published?|First off, I'm sorry that you are going through the same thing, it's absolutely crushing. That's the point of my book though, I wanted to reach out with my heart and share that with others. I want anyone that cares to listen (or read in this case) to know that they are not completely alone. As for the book, I did this. 1) Found a poetry book the same shape and size that I wanted. I used that book as inspiration, and it became a template during the editing process. 2) Wrote book and then edited the book. 3) Uploaded the finished book and cover to Kindle Direct Publishing . 4) Published! Thank for your question.|Here
How did you go from breaking up to publishing a book in just 3 months? That's impressively fast considering all phases involved; even if the creative process and writing were part of you coping strategy is pretty fast.|I could see myself making two decisions, to grab the bottle and start a long journey down that rabbit hole...or, lean on art to see me through ( and yes, there was Whiskey still involved, and a ton of music! I even created a playlist on Spotify). I should note that I am still very much in the healing process. The book helped me a lot, but it didn't fully heal this wounded heart. I think anyone feeling something truly powerful emotionally should let that out in an art form. It really helps. It's like free therapy. Haha|Here
Well said. I admire how exact your description is of this unceasing temptation of lashing out and burning all bridges with greatest fire ever seen (even more so if you are in right and it would be so easy) and then describing the other way of containing yourself and accepting the pain that comes with loneliness. So no real question here, just wanted to tell you that I don't even like poetry that much, but I am looking forward to read your book!|I really appreciate your kind words. You sound like you really get where I am coming from. I just want to heal and I want her to heal, and I want what's best for everyone. I have seen far too many loves turn into hate because of uncontrolled emotions. Trust me. Healing takes time, and the process is far better when you don't spend all your time trying to be right about how the other person hurt you. If you end up getting my book, that would be incredible, and if you like it, or not, please feel free to leave a review. Aloe, I will be giving anyone who buys my book the ebook version for free when it's ready, so make sure to let me know on my Instagram account @instadonnelly|Here

>What sort of pitfalls are there to self-publishing a book like this? Just out of curiosity, can you briefly describe the process?

Step one was getting the book written, which can be daunting in and of itself. I had the support and encouragement of my wife, and Reddit had told me in no uncertain terms that if I wrote the book, I had an audience for it.

Once I got my momentum going, story after story poured out of my head. It allowed me to sort some memories and unresolved feelings, I think.

I then took my first draft and gave it to a couple of trusted people and had them tear into it. Based on their suggestions, I made the first round of corrections.

Once the 'early draft' was written, I had to get it professionally edited. While my prose isn't the worst, there are a lot of little errors that one can make that readers might find distracting, so any author would do well to have his work at least copy edited, and ideally edited for content and flow as well.

I paid ~ $600 - $700 for comprehensive editing from an experienced editor. He wrote pages of notes for me, not just about typographical errors and the like, but about style and distracting habits and practices that would make me less attractive to readers or publishers. The fee was steep, but I consider it tuition, as I gained skills that will serve me well in the future.

So after waiting and chewing on my nails for a few weeks, I got back a marked up manuscript and pages of notes. I then had to do a re-write of the book, going through page by page and revising meticulously.

Once I had my final copy, I spent a few days trying to figure out how to format it for Kindle on my own until I ran across an awesome service called LiberWriter that does a fantastic job for $25 if you have an uncomplicated manuscript. If you have a bunch of figures or other stuff, you may want to look at something else, but LiberWriter worked great for me.

Then I had to get cover art. Some folks pay for cover art, but I'm not terrible at image editing, so I made my own cover art and showed draft after draft after draft to friends and my wife until I hit on one that 'popped' and looked professional.

Once that was done, I had to decide what I was going to do in terms of publishing.

There are a lot of options. You can try to send it to publishing houses (waiting weeks or months for a response from each one). I knew I had some people expecting a book from me on Reddit, and I didn't want to wait disappoint them. I also figured the book would be more expensive for readers if I went through a publishing house, and I'd like to keep it as affordable as possible as I imagined many of my readers might be college students thinking about teaching themselves.

So self-publishing it was. For the e-book, I decided to go exclusive with Amazon.com, because people with Amazon Prime accounts can 'borrow' your book from the Kindle Owner's Lending Library for free (and you still get paid!) if you go exclusive. I liked the idea of people getting my book for free while I still got paid. Win-win.

Next was pricing. Amazon has two royalty options: 35% and 70%.

70% is only available if you sell your book for $2.99 or more.

If you sell for $0.99 it's 35% royalty.

Which means I had a choice between making $2.00 per sale (but possibly making less sales) and making $0.35 per sale.

I'd need to sell ~ 7x as many books at 0.99 cents to make the same money, so I figured the $2.99 price point was my best option. I was hoping to at least recoup the editing fee.

I also set up a print on demand system through CreateSpace, which is owned by Amazon. This allowed me to offer print books for people who didn't want the e-book version, and it cost me nothing to do this. Because of the cost of printing the physical books, the paperback costs $8.50 + shipping. I get about $2.00 from the sale of each paperback.

After that came the question of how to market the book. The problem is, after you've put in all of this work writing, editing, proofreading, designing a cover, building an e-book.... your book exists in a vacuum. Not a single soul knows about it or the fact that you wrote it.

So I set up a Twitter account, a Facebook page, and a website.

I also set up accounts on Shelfari and Goodreads.

I spent many hours tweaking the product page.

The domain name, wordpress.org software, etc. altogether ran me about $50.

So at that point I was trying to maintain a Twitter account (build followers), a Facebook page, and an education blog. While working on a PhD.

To build followers for the Facebook page, I made a Facebook ad, and that helped me accumulate some followers (~200) and build some buzz on Facebook.

I also paid for Reddit self-serve advertising (not a single sale from that as far as I could tell), Goodreads self-serve advertising (it was glitching when I tried to do it, and they ended up refunding my money), Google AdWords advertising (spent several hours on the phone setting that up to make sure I got all my keywords right, yielded ~ 0 sales), and probably some I can't remember.

In total, my investment in the book was now ~ $650 editing, ~ $250 marketing, ~ $100 miscellaneous (LiberWriter, shipping physical copies of the book to potential reviewers, etc.).

I knew from my /r/bestof'd post that there were thousands of people out there who enjoyed my writing, but now the trick was how to let them know that I had actually written the book. And how to do this without being a commercial hack about it?

I've got to admit, I agonized over this one. Reddit was the community that gave me the strength to finally write the book. I did not want to be disrespectful of what they'd done for me, and I didn't want to be 'that guy' just trying to make a buck off of Reddit.

So I tried to create original content, submitting some of my blog posts here and there to /r/blogs, and I tried to get Reddit involved in the process of working on the book with me so there would be buy in (Reddit actually helped me title the book). I really wanted the community to be as involved and excited as I was.

When it came time for the big launch, I did an AMAA in the /r/IAmA subreddit. It was good, but it didn't get huge or anything.

The book was released in April. It sold 49 e-books and ~ 25 physical copies.

In May, it sold 20 ebooks and 1 physical copy.

In June, it sold 51 ebooks and 13 physical copies (I had a post get /r/bestof'd, and I think that drove some sales).

I made $2.00 per sale, so that's 159 books sold + ~ 20 books borrowed for ~ $338 total in three months. (Which means I'm still $562 in the hole for those doing the math at home).

And realistically it was trending down as the Reddit buzz faded. I couldn't justify investing more in advertising, because I was seeing minimal return on my investment. Almost all sales were coming from Reddit.

As an author, it's a little depressing when only 159 people have read your book after three months. Getting the message out was more important to me than making a bunch of money, so, I set up a Free Weekend promotion with Amazon (this is straightforward to do through the Amazon interface).

I announced it on as many subs as I felt I could do so appropriately. Almost all of the subs were /r/shamelessplug or free book related subs where I felt I wouldn't be seen as abusing Reddit's good nature. Check my submission (not comment) history to see my marketing blitz.

And I set up this AMA (in /r/AMA, since I’ve already done one in /r/IAmA) to try to get as many people to download as I could. Told folks to spread the word so people could get it while it was free.

...I gave away 7,700 free e-books this past weekend.

Schooled hit #1 on Professional/Academic Biographies, and made it to the Top 50 of Free Nonfiction books in the Kindle store. It hit something like #178 in the whole Kindle e-book store. (Making it high in the lists is a good thing, because it makes Amazon suggest your book to people more often, and makes you more visible).

I decided that I like people reading my book, and since it wasn't moving at the $2.99 price, I'd set the price to $0.99.

As of right now, 54 units have been sold at the $0.99 price since it went there today. Most of that is probably still momentum from the free promotion.

Right now, it's at #3,044 Paid in the Kindle store..

Lessons learned:

  • Writing is hard work.

  • If making money is your goal, be cautious. You’ll have to persevere and work hard for a long time to turn a profit.

  • I've no regrets, and I've had a blast. It's been an exciting ride, and I'd call the project a success with nearly 8,000 readers and climbing.

Wait wait! If you doooo happen to still have a question...

Please ask it here at this fancy IAMA I made for you. :)

**

I have accomplished this mission! And it was so worth it. Esp for all the small NYC apts I've been living in. The process took about two months. Which means whatever toilet the cat has claim to, you have to kinda just deal by moving it.

I suggest buying this kit:
http://www.amazon.com/Litter-Kwitter-Quitter-Toilet-Training/dp/B0014N70QO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1301077377&sr=8-1

The $15 onetime use ones do work, but I ended up buying this because I found it helps to be able to re-outfit the toilet sometimes with the last ring and litter, just to remind him what's what. The Litter Kwitter has instructions and guidelines for what age to start and what steps to take. It's also a much more elegant solution than the onetime uses.

The Success Story:
Cat uses the toilet! I hardly ever touch litter (but I keep some around). And guests gawk if they are ever fortunate enough to witness his skills. This is prob his own personality, but my cat likes to announce before he goes with meowings. And sometimes he'll beat me to the toilet. Absolutely worth it to wait for him and think about all the litter I'm not touching.

The "Failure" Story:
Cats like to communicate via bowel movements. So when I've been on vacation too long or something else bugs him, (or someone leaves the lid down!!) he'll forgo the toilet for different types of fabric around the apt. This is not too different from other cats except that once it's fixed he's re-discovered that the floor was much easier to position on than the toilet. Hence the need for the last ring and some extra litter. I've found that setting up the last stage of the training will convince him to go "on" the litter without much of a struggle. Then it's just about waiting that last week of the training again to ween him off the litter/tray.

Note that your litter box can now become something of a bargaining chip. If I know I'm going away for a week or so I'll put out the litter box for him. And he seems to think it's a fair trade, when I come back he'll shape right up.

That's it pretty much it in a nutshell. You gotta keep his short term memory connecting the toilet to the place to go. And then just track his health they way you would for any kitty.

Extra tidbits:**

  • he's only ever fallen in 1.5 times (in 2-3yrs-ish) when startled and I quickly bathed him
  • he's had a couple urinary tract infections and being able to see the actual color of his pee has really helped make him better
  • he smells good for a lot longer btwn baths! and doesn't track litter around the house! awesome
  • white vinegar is your best friend for disinfecting hardcore and destroying cat urine smell forever. Just poooour it on and wait for the smell to dry away and you won't smell a bit of the urine - it also gets rid of the secret cat chemicals, so my cat forgets that piece of fabric was ever a pee spot.

Anything else you wanna know, I'm game. :)

I'm extremely ignorant on how blind people use computers. I usually hyperlink things, but here I'll leave the URLs in in case that makes it easier for you select the website if you're interested.

I was recently hospitalized for a week and had nothing to do but read all day. I read the book "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio and while it was kind of simple, I think it's a great window into what life is like for a kid who has always been "different." His was mostly negative, but I'm sure there'd be some interesting things to relate to. Here is the link to audible: http://www.audible.com/pd/Kids/Wonder-Audiobook/B0074O9UF6

Next, my favorite musical of all time is Les Miserables, (even though Hamilton is getting most of my love right now). I own every version of the latest movie, and I've watched the entire thing multiple times, and I even enjoy the audio-description feature they have for the seeing-impaired! I highly recommend it.
Here is the amazon link for the pack I got: https://www.amazon.com/Miserables-Blu-ray-Digital-Copy-UltraViolet/dp/B005S9EKCW

Finally, if you haven't heard RadioLab's podcast on colors, although I'm sure you have, it does a great job at describing colors that aren't on our visible spectrum as humans, so even for us seeing folk, it does an awesome job of explaining colors we can't imagine through music.
Here is the link to that: http://www.radiolab.org/story/211119-colors/

(It's after the sir Isaac Newton story and a bunch of "sponsored by" messages)

I hope any of that was of interest to you.

>I built a top bar hive a couple years ago but never moved anyone into it. Been hoping I'd have what you found one day: some feral bees moved in. Been a couple years (scent it with lemongrass oil & beeswax each spring), maintain a lot of wild flowers in my yard (bees seem to particularly like milkweed), and in general try to make things conducive to being a bee, but no dice so far.

Definitely the right start, but I'd recommend building a simple nuc, and putting it high in a tree (maybe 8-12 foot up). If you can put it near a water source, even better. Also, try getting your name on some local bee removal sites (and if you're only comfortable with swarms, state that you only do swarm removals). It's a great way to get free bees, and a lot of times people will pay you to boot! I once got $100 for doing a trap-out even after I insisted that I didn't need the pay. Free bees, free money!

>So, I've been thinking of actually buying some bees and putting them in the hive, knowing basically nothing I feel I might be throwing good money (and a bunch of bees) away. Is there a particular resource on the internet you'd recommend as "essential reading" for someone who is 100% just interested in keeping bees on the property, with basically no desire for honey?

Absolutely. Michael Bush is basically the Elvis of hobby bee keeping, and he will go out of his way to answer any questions you post on forums he lurks on. His entire website is also available in hardback book form. It's a bit pricey, but absolutely worth the purchase.

>Any company you'd particularly recommend for me to purchase bees from?

I'd always recommend catching a swarm over buying. The bees you buy are typically Italian or Russian imports, and in my experience, not as hardy as feral bees. Ferals (at least those that I have) seem to be just aggressive enough to fend off the varroa mites, where the ones bred to be docile don't. Though do keep in mind that you have to "test" your ferals to make sure they're not Africanized if you're in that area. (Believe it or not, even Africanized bees are decent honeybees so long as you can be 100% sure that no man, woman, child, or pet will go anywhere near the hive unprotected - a guarantee you cannot make in a rural setting.) If you catch a swarm, let them move in, then "tease" them a bit when suited up. If after the first bee stings your suit, you only get 10-20 stingers in your suit, you're fine. The Africanized guys will tag you 100's of times.

This said, if you've no other choice but to buy a package, the hardest part is just finding someone that can deliver in your area, and has some available. You'll have to reserve your package in early February for a March or April delivery. (They go fast, particularly as so many colonies are dying out now.) Unfortunately I can't point you to a specific breeder that ships via mail. I've always had to go to a semi-local apiary to pick up my packages myself. (Queens are another matter. Those I can get by mail.)

>Finally, I have the hive relatively close to my house at the moment (also on about an acre)...is there any unwanted interaction during day-to-day activities? Or they're as chill as any random bee is, even when you're relatively close to the hive, and pretty much only freak out when you're actively going after the honey?

I've seen people keep bees right next to their back door without problems. I've seen people with massive hives living underneath their trailer home for 10 years without issue. Even these ferals that I have, once they calmed down, they no longer even try to attack me when mowing right next to the hive (within about 2 feet). So long as the bees' primary point of travel isn't directly in a walking path, there won't be a problem. And even then, it's usually accidental (them getting tangled in hair and panicking for example).

One thing you can do if you're particularly concerned is give the bees their own little "coop". Build some 7 foot walls up around them, and bees will travel up, and then out from there. They won't come back down to our level until they've neared their flower source. The girls I have only really get pissy when I start tearing apart their hive. Being ferals, they also produce a ton more propolis, so pulling their hive apart can be a pretty strenouous activity, resulting in lots of jostling.

Here is a recipe to the best thing I've personally created.

Sauce

  • Chili garlic sauce (careful, this is spicy. If you over do it, add more sugar/soy, can easily happen if you reduce too much)
  • Tamari (fancy soy sauce with less salt and more flavor)
  • rice wine vinger (couple splashes)
  • Seaseme seed soil, about 1tbsp, huge flavor
  • fresh minced up garlic and ginger.
  • 1-2 tbsp of brown sugar to taste, can get too sweet quickly so make sure to be tasting after adding.

Mix that all up in a bowl with a whisk and simmer on low heat in a pan.

    Meat

I've done this with chicken and beef, but beef came out my favorite

  • 1 package of stir fry beef, or fajita beef. any small cut beef would work, and cheap beef would work well too from how its being prepared.

To cook, refrigerate the meat so its cold, then take it out and put it in a gallon ziplock bag. In the bag with the meat add corn starch (enough so everything is throughly coated) and black pepper. Toss the beef up so its nice and coated.

Then, pour the beef and powder into a spagetti strainer to knock off all the excess corn startch. You are not making a crush or batter, just coat it.

Next, heat up a pan of vegetable oil. Once its hot where when you drip a drop of water and it starts bubbling, toss the meat in. Let it fry for about 2-3min, when you are stiring it around with your spoon or whatever, you will feel it start to harder. As soon as it "feels" crispy, take it out. (dont worry, it will soften)

Let this dry on a cooling rack or paper towels.

    Starch

I love the Asian noodles, you can get them in a package. To cook, use a very large pan/wok or electric skillet thats going to be where you combine everything in. Heat up the pan, put some sesame seed oil in the pan, then the noodles. Toss them around until they heat up and remove. Set aside the noodles. (cook maybe 2-3min)

Rice would also work here, although cooking instructions for rice should be followed.

    Veggies

Easiest option is to buy a bag of stir fry mix. I usually combine some stir fry veggies with fresh garlic and a fresh quartered onion. (i like big chunks of onion for this, but cut to the size you prefer).

The stir fry veggies are generally broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, red bell peppers and peas.

To cook: heat up a pan, use a big one. If you dont have a large pan an electric skillet WITH SIDES will work. This has to be big enough to fit all of the veggies and meat.

After the pan is heated up, add a splash of vegetable oil and some sesame seed soil to the pan. Toss in all of the veggies and keep them moving while they heat up. After they look heated up, add some of the sauce you made earlier. Toss them around so they are coated but not dripping or soggy.

The veggie part you dont want to take longer then 5-8min so you have crunchy veggies at the end.

    The Finish

Finally, the fun part. First, add your noodles back to the pan, then add some of your sauce, and toss them around so they are coated. Then add your veggies and beef to the pan. Toss this around until everything looks distributed. Now, add more of your sauce to taste, toss and enjoy!

IDK what you'd call it, but we call it spicy stir fry beef with noodles lol

A few tips... dont add too many veggies where you "dilute" the amount of noodles you have. Dont over cook the veggies or they get too soft. Chili-garlic sauce is SPICY. Sesame seed oil is VERY STRONG. Use those two in moderation but for huge flavor!

Also, please let me know if you try this i'd love to know what other people thought of it.

hahah well, you can laugh or cry, right? and yeah, im 19, so i should heal up pretty well. i'll be able to do about 90% of the things i want to.

  1. yes, i take a lot of painkillers. especially the first few days, it is important to take them at the shortest safe intervals to stay ahead of the pain. if you wait longer than the shortest allowed times, it becomes a vicious cycle of pain building on itself. unfortunately, i had bad bone bruising each time, so i had lots of pain in addition to the surgery. i also purchased a special electric ice pump ( something like this ) which is an absolute lifesaver! id recommend one, especially if you are an unlucky fellow like me. injured friends also greatly appreciate borrowing them...

  2. the surgery went well. i had some meniscus damage shown in the MRI, but the doc said when he went in it had healed itself! yay! however, my knee has been bleeding quite a bit under the wrap (not a normal thing), and i believe one of the stitches came apart. its not an emergency, but i will be going back to the doctor in the morning to have it fixed. AND as a matter of fact, yes, the doctor has been working with a slightly better procedure (for about a year and a half now) that i agreed to let him try. it is better for two reasons:
A he only harvested one hamstring graft instead of two this time around. it is better because that leaves me with more hamstrings in my right leg (unfortunately, the first surgery used two out of my left leg). this will theoretically make the recovery time shorter, and, as you can imagine, leave the leg a bit stronger.
B instead of tunneling through the bone at one point, he anchors the graft into the bone in both spots. it is better because i have no screws in my knee this time (even though they absorb eventually), and it is less invasive.

  3. my family has to help me a lot for the first one to two weeks. it really isn't something you can go through on your own, you need a lot of help at first. just getting up to go to the bathroom is quite an ordeal right at first. i injured myself when i was off at school, and i had to wait to come back to my family to get surgery, as there was no way my roomates would have had the time to take care of me.

  4. i do feel positive about my recovery. like you mentioned, im young, and i have a lot of things i want to do, so ill work hard to make a full recovery. seeing as i have done this once before, im a bit of an expert ;)

i appreciate it! are you going to be going through this yourself?

Hi, not the OP, just a parent of a child with autism. I wrote a blog post on how to find good therapists and make sure ABA is helpful and productive.

My son was also terribly shy at that age (he started ABA at 18 months). We did ABA in our home and the therapists came and played with him for at least a week or two just to get him used to them before we started any sort of therapy. I stayed right by his side until he became comfortable with them. They brought fun toys and bought new ones once they found out his likes and dislikes.

I highly recommend you get An Early Start For Your Child With Autism. It is based on the Early Start Denver Model and teaches you how to do ABA in a fun, play based way that has simple instructions and clear steps. You can give to the ABA therapists to help them do ABA therapy in a fun way. My ABA therapist loves it so much she's doing it with her NT daughter.

I also like Engaging Autism, which teaches you how to do the Floortime Method.

I'm not a medical professional, but I'll help you as much as possible with what I know and my experiences. For insomnia, they'll ask you some questions and have you fill out questionnaires to eliminate sleep apnea and determine what is bothering you. It's usually extremely easy to identify the problem with the doctor (e.g., delayed sleep phase disorder, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, etc.) If it's insomnia, they'll recommend 1) melatonin (and if you've taken a high dose like 3-10 mg, they'll recommend lowering it to 300 mcg). Next, they'll recommend individual therapies for your disorder (i.e., bright light therapy for delayed sleep phase disorder, CBT-I for insomnia) and a referral to a sleep psychologist. CBT-I is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, and you can read about it here:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/insomnia/in-depth/insomnia-treatment/art-20046677

Alongside a sleep psychologist, you'll keep a sleep journal, which records your wake and sleep times and possibly mood and other variables. Your sleep psychologist will tailor a cognitive therapy to you based on your issues, including, but not limited to: stimulus control therapy, sleep restriction, sleep hygiene, sleep environment improvement, relaxation training, biofeedback, etc. I went through all of this, and it wasn't very successful for me, but I hope it works for your fiancée.

Drugs work initially, however, you will quickly develop tolerance to them. Doxylamine succinate (it's what's in Unisom; an antihistamine) is available online (Amazon), and it is very effective. If you do use it (25 mg), break the pill in half. The full dose is way too strong. The drawback is that the half-life (time for your body to break down half of the drug) is very long, and you'll probably be groggy in the morning-afternoon. Over-the-counter, you could also try:

  1. Kava kava (https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Kava-250-120-Capsules/dp/B0013OSNA6/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1538843584&sr=8-4&keywords=kava+kava)
  2. Valerian extract (https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Answer-Alcohol-Free-Valerian-2-Fluid/dp/B0014ATL8W/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1538843559&sr=8-3&keywords=valerian+extract)

Prescription-wise, I've tried hydroxyzine (antihistamine), suvoxerant (orexin blocker), low-dose trazadone (antidepressant; off-label), and gabapentin (calcium channel blocker). I discontinued all of them either due to side effects or the develop of tolerance.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thats the one I got. Its pretty good and worth spendin 35 bucks on just to see if you like it or not. If not it was just 35 bucks but if you do it is gonna be a game changer. No more mud butt, endless wiping on messy days, etc.

It was pretty easy to install with basic tools. They have a higher end one that's got hot water hookups that would be cool during winter. Summer around here the cold water is warm anyway in my neck of the woods.

First time was a little weird but after that it was awesome.

John Bradshaw's books are classics and a good place to start - I'll link you to it here. You are also free to subscribe to my Youtube Channel where I discuss related material that might be helpful for you (depending on what topic I am covering that week). Depends on what I'm after. I usually target salmon. This has been a great rod, but any medium-heavy or heavy rod will work if it's well built. Length depends on where you fish. https://fishfield.com/products/cousins-tributary-salmon-steelhead-series-rods?variant=37987940241

This has been an excellent reel. https://www.amazon.com/SHIMANO-STRADIC-Freshwater-Spinning-Fishing/dp/B011A4IG50/ref=sr_1_3?hvadid=178132885320&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9002291&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10569721590638572151&hvtargid=kwd-1689734353&keywords=stradic+4000&qid=1554432120&s=gateway&sr=8-3. You'd want 4000 size or bigger for salmon (YMMV)

As far as line, I like braid, but again it really depends on what you're doing. I hate flourocarbon.

I would choose a book titled Words and Nothing More by Jonathan Lamoureux Horic .
Beautiful, raw and real.

Thanks for asking!

Have you ever read the book, How To Lie With Statistics? Really, the only part of college statistics that I have retained is how to lie with numbers, while still being technically mathematically correct. You should step up your lie game. Practice makes perfect! https://www.amazon.com/How-Lie-Statistics-Darrell-Huff/dp/0393310728/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526650890&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+lie
