You could eat crackers, jerky, trail mix, fruit, and supplement the crackers/ fruit (apples and bananas) with individual packets of peanut butter like this: https://www.amazon.com/Butter-Justins-Ingredients-Gluten-free-Responsibly/dp/B00E1XPY3A/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=nut+butter+individual+packets&qid=1567406938&s=gateway&sprefix=nut+butter+indi&sr=8-11

I also second Budget Bytes, her website is great! She has pictures explaining every step of a recipe. She also did a SNAP Challenge so you could save that much more money if you wanted to. I'm a fan of her black bean quesadillas, which isn't so much cooking as cracking open cans and packages of shredded cheese, tortillas, and spice containers. The only real cooking to do is toasting the quesadillas. You could even get through this recipe without using a knife! You can buy frozen chopped onions or fresh chopped onion from the salad section of the grocery store. You can get around cutting the cilantro by using scissors, and they sell jars of minced garlic, too. The recipe takes 2 cups of shredded cheese which is how much is in one bag of shredded cheese.

Get insect growth regulator. It renders them infertile and stops the cycle. Roach bait/gels don’t address the babies that pop up every 30 days and the cycle just repeats itself. Roaches are tenacious jerks that can survive on just a smidge of grease and a drop of water. You could be clean but if your neighbors aren’t and there’s a small gap between the wall and floor/cabinet or in my case a gap where the water pipe comes in through the wall they will make there way through the gap.

I recommend the following product because there’s no messy spray and it’s easy to install, get some bait gel like the one the other commenter mentioned and put a few dabs onto this device to ensure that the roaches come near the station.

Please note that this device does not kill roaches and should used in conjunction with bait.

Buy a portable dishwasher and a dolly to put it on. Okay, yeah it's going to cost about $300 total, but personally it's the best $300 I ever spent (mine has been going since 2013 and I only have to wash the filter inside it on occasion).

It hooks into the sink, it's relatively small and will fit even in the smallest kitchen. I had the same exact problem as you. If your landlord says anything, remind them you are saving them money by using a dishwasher, not to mention it's more hygenic. I am on my feet for 10 hours a day and I can't be arsed to do dishes after a long, busy shift at work.

The air in the bottle is what's making the wine taste like vinegar. The bars around here use handheld vacuum pump (like this Vacu Vin Wine Saver Pump, Black with 6 Vacuum Bottle Stoppers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0C17P1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_yN0PDbRZ7MC0X) to keep things sealed. Good luck!

Make your own first aid kit instead.

Most of the kits they sell contain very crappy band aids and cleaning wipes ...and not much else.

Buy a dedicated latching container, and fill it with your normal go-to items for everyday cuts. Add other emergency items as you think of them, to suit your specific needs, and to suit your specific first aid skill level.

For example, if you are prone to severe allergic reactions you might want to keep some Benadryl in your first aid kit even if you normally keep a bottle elsewhere in your house.

And, there's no point in adding things like wire mesh splints or triangle bandages if you yourself don't have any clue how to use them.

A good starter kit: Your favorite kind of band-aids. Your cut disinfectant of choice. Anti-itch cream or spray. Clean gloves in a sandwich bag (in case you have to care for another, or have another care for you). Tweezers and scissors (even if you also have them elsewhere in your home) A roll of toilet paper with a quarter inch layer of paper left on it (mainly so you have something absorbent handy if you have to run bleeding to your first aid box)

My personal first aid kit contains: knuckle and fingertip bandages, non-stick wound pads, cloth tape, non-stick wrap, betadine iodine solution, Neosporin, anti-itch spray, travel sized baby powder, hemorrhoid cream, splinter-outs, q-tips, fingernail clippers, sealed mini bottle of contact lens solution, contact lens case, spare pair of contact lenses, water purification tablets, silver emergency blanket, plastic rain poncho (lots of uses), sealed anti-diarrhea single dose pouch, Gatorade single serving pouches, sewing kit, scissors, and of course a few of those almost used up rolls of toilet paper... smushed flat so they'll fit down in an empty band aid box.

splinter-outs are basically very tiny, single use, and sterile micro-scalpels. I've never successfully removed a splinter with one, but I've used them countless times over the years. If you ever need something sharp and sterile to dig at yourself with for whatever reason, these are perfect. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GPLX92Y

I first went through and tossed anything that didn't have a matching bottom/top and anything where the seal was less than ideal.

I stacked up all the bowls as best as I could, kind of nesting them inside of each other.

Then I organized the lids in the same order, but I used a pot lid holder like this to store them.

I have a friend who is a gas utility mechanic who works on meter installs/repair and uses a mat like this. He says he says they're worth every penny and more especially as most meters are in areas with rocks and concrete more often than grassy lawns.

Re: white noise — I bought one of these about 10 years ago and I swear by it:

These things, are cheap and easy to use and can often be all that is needed to get a drain working again. As a lifelong renter I have had one of these because it only takes 5 minutes to use it and I can't be arsed to call my landlord over something trivial like this. If this doesn't work then the clog in your drain isn't in your suite and a real plumber would be required. Plus you can get a chance to see some really really grimy stuff using one of these, which can be fun.

> how and where do you get the car registered?

If you're in the US, you phone the local DMV and ask them how to register the car. You probably go to an office, write a cheque, fill out forms, prove that you didn't steal it, and then get registration.

If not, you text a car-savvy relative and ask them who you contact.

> How do you know when something is broken, and how do you fix/handle that?

You suspect that something is broken if a dashboard light comes on or if the car makes a motion or sound that it didn't used to. Then you Google it, watch some YouTube, read the car's manual, and maybe take it to a mechanic. For most newish cars you can also plug one of these things into a port under the dashboard, pair it with an app on your phone, and listen to the computer telling you what it thinks is wrong with itself.

> How do you choose a mechanic that isn't awful?

I dunno... Ask your friends, and read online reviews? How do you choose, like, a doctor or a lawyer?

> What are the basic parts under the hood, and what do they do?

Depends on the car. Depends on if it's gas or diesel. Probably best to Google your exact model of car once you've picked one.

> What sort of insurance coverage should I get?

If you're in the US, your state probably has a legally mandated minimum amount of insurance. If not, uh, ask someone car-savvy whom you trust.

> Etc.

  • Read your car's manual (or download a pdf if it didn't come with one) to find out about its routine maintenance schedule. Fluids and stuff need to be changed every so-many miles or years, and the specs depend on the model of car.

  • Check your lights, and use a mirror or friend to check that your brake lights work.

  • Check the oil and tyre pressure every week if you drive a lot, every month if you don't.

  • If you haven't committed to a particular model of car, look at this

  • Before you actually purchase a certain car from a certain year, Google around to see if it has a common failure mode. Like Honda Fits are generally great but the 2007 ones have a problem with one of the seals around the door leaking so rain gets in your car.

  • Take someone car-competent with you when you test drive.

These bed frames by Zinus are great. You just have to unfold it and put the corner braces in place. No tools. Took me less than 10 minutes to do it myself. I have the 18" one and keep large Rubbermade totes under it. There's more storage under my bed than in my closet.

Also get a few moisture absorbers like this one, you can leave them in the car when you're not using it!
