8. GOLDTONE Stainless Steel Reusable Disk Coffee Filter for Aeropress Coffee and Espresso Makers, includes 1 oz Scoop and Brush

    Features:
  • ECO-FRIENDLY & ECONOMICAL: This filter is compatible with Aero Press coffee press systems and should have a permanent place in your kitchen. Use it to brew your morning single-serve cup of coffee as a simple way to reduce waste. Industrial round paper filters usually end up in landfills, but with this refillable filtration device, every cup of gourmet coffee will be better for the environment.
  • NICE GIFT FOR MEN & WOMEN: If you’re putting together a gift set for a coffee lover in your life, this Aero Press coffee maker filter replacement is an excellent idea for a birthday, Christmas, or anniversary gift. It produces delicious, commercial-quality coffee and allows more oils to come through compared to paper filters. All you need is coffee, an Aero Press, and hot water!

I don't know that there is an all-in-one AeroPress solution with kettle and grinder, but I have looked into ultra-portability, and I think with the right bag, even though you might make some compromises (the grinder doesn't fit in the AeroPress, the AeroPress doesn't fit into the kettle), I think you can get a fairly sweet portable kit. For me, this means I don't need capacities any larger than 500 mL. So, here are some things I've looked at:

  • Ultra thin collapsable silicone electric kettle
  • 300g travel food scale
  • AeroPress Go (Yes, I'm definitely getting one)

I own the JavaPresse hand grinder. I love, love, love this grinder, but my only gripe is that the diameter is a bit small for my hands, and they tend to cramp up when grinding. I'm open to a portable hand grinder that has a larger diameter, and shorter. The Porlex grinder seems like it might be a good fit.

The only thing that I haven't really found to my liking is the perfect bag to carry everything in, and a portable air-tight opaque container to carry whole coffee beans.

So if it tastes great, I'd recommend to keep doing what you're doing. Otherwise, what about the flavor profile isn't quite right?

I used to use my Aeropress for single cup cold brew: fine ground coffee, packed hard into the bottom of the Aeropress, then, fill the chamber + funnel with ice and let it sit overnight. The ice would provide a slow drip into the grounds, and the hard packed coffee would slow the drip process.

At this point, my cold brewing chamber is a 64 oz Mason/Bell jar, with 2.0 Oz of coarse ground coffee (25 on Baratza Encore, or "French Press" ground coffee) in a Zell filter, then fill the jar to the neck with water and leave it on the counter for 18-20 hours. This provides a strong concentrate. I then cut it 1:1 with water.

If you want a stronger cup of cold brew with your Aeropress brew method, use finer ground coffee, or leave everything on the counter instead of in the fridge. "Cold brew" doesn't necessarily mean cold temperatures, it just means "not hot brew". you can also use more grinds, or less water, but changing the grind size and extraction length are probably easy places to start.

Good luck chasing that perfect cup!

I found an alternative to something like that "Filter Coffee Traveller" Which is $38 https://basal.co/collections/frontpage/products/filter-coffee-traveller
I surfed through Amazon for similar dimensions and finally here is the type of bag I was looking for.

Plus it has adjustable dividers, and only $13! I am not sure of the material or stitching but... are we really going to be dragging it on the floor lol?
I ended up getting this for my Aeropress kit because it's smaller, which suits my specific kit.

I like these zipper open styles instead of the middle opening so I don't have to dig through the bag for the filters & bean. This sits nicely in the corner of my duffel bag and super efficient on campus. Hope this helps others stumbling around for a carry case.

An electric kettle designed for pouring over coffee will make you life with the Aeropress much easier with less spillage. For example I am currently using this Electric Coffee Kettle.

I would also recommend getting a reusable metal filter instead of using the paper filters. I think it really helps the taste - it makes the AeroPress more of a French press. I use this Filter.

I also would say grind the beans yourself right before you brew if you want the best and freshest coffee. I used to pre-grind at the store and it makes a HUGE difference. I have an electric grinder, however I want to try hand grinding in the future.

Perhaps an appropriate sized solid plastic cutting board, maybe one of the thicker ones for strength, with a hole cut in it to allow the filter holder to pass through.

Along the lines of the washer idea that was suggested, but something food safe and pretty easy to find.

Cuisineart Coffee Bar Grinder.

It's super easy. It's essentially a blender / food processor that is built for coffee beans.

The nice part is that the level of grind is controlled by how long you hold it down, like a blender. So you can go very course down to "baby powder / Turkish coffee" level very easily.

The onyl bad part is the lid gets grinds stuck on it from the oils.

I've had one for over 5 years. Still works great.

Get a cheap electric grinder like this one. The difference between a hand grinder and an electric in terms of taste isn't that big, and it saves a lot of time. You don't need to clean it often and shouldn't use soap more than like once a month because keeping the oils around is good.

My Aeropress recipe takes about 2min, but there's another 5min waiting for the water to heat up. It's crazy crazy easy to clean. Run some cold water over it if you just pressed, pull out the plunger just slightly to pull the grounds off the filter, unscrew the cap, pop the puck into the trash/compost, then just wash with water. You don't need to wash the inside because the plunger squeegees it.

I'd highly recommend a gooseneck kettle. There are cheap options and it gives you so much more control. If you have a kitchen, a stove top one and a thermometer can give you even more control. I personally find that 80C water makes a huge difference, but it depends how obsessive you want to get.

FYI, I got this one

It’s pretty neat :)

I haven't tried others, but ended up with the Slimm filter (truthfully, it was because the price was right -- two for $10 -- and the reviews were decent enough).

It's been pretty good. I don't have issues screwing on the cap or anything, and the edges aren't particularly hot when I go to remove the bottom and release the puck. I do brew with an inversion, so the only heat the filter really gets is when the coffee is passing through (and it's cooled down from the initial 200ish by that point).

It is a little bit more work than the paper, but the coffee is clearer and with the paper, I would occasionally get grounds in my cup.

The French Press idea got me to thinking. I have a large FP that I use for more than one cup. It's ceramic and VERY sturdy! I may just repurpose it! It is aprox 8.3 cm diameter at top. (3.75 in)

It's made by ForLife. It's still available in the US on Amazon. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it!

I have a rubbermaid travel mug that I really like. It’s lightweight and compact, it was relatively cheap ($15?), the aeropress fits right into it,
and the lid seals pretty well. I often put it upright into my backpack and I’ve never had a spill.

I think it’s this one.

It will cost you but this will allow you to get a lot of Crema, I highly recommend!

I recommend a metal filter electric kettle and the AeroPress Timer App best investment ever in my opinion.

u/johnnyproblems · 1 pointr/AeroPress

I got it on amazon called “0.5 PORTABLE ELECTRIC KETTLE” I love it. Small enough to pack in my checked bag with a bag of beans inside. All stainless no plastic touches the boiling water. Would recommend.

Here is the link.

Yes I did and my travel mug is still too small. The mug I have is this one, which I really enjoy, except for this situation.

This Epica kettle ...was on sale for $40 a few years ago when I bought it. It's been a great product, and it's on sale again!

I just took this little fella across Europe and the UK, and have used it stateside as well. It collapses very flat and the travel case is a nice touch. Low capacity but more than enough for a brew!
