It's pretty easy to do and I recommend it, because this is a purchase you will recoup quickly. You can check a list of compatible modems here:

  • Time Warner / Spectrum Approved DOCSIS 3.0 and 2.0 Cable Modems
  • Lease a Modem from TWC or Buy Your Own Modem
  • twc-compatible-modems.pdf

Pick the model that matches your budget and the speed of the contract you have with TWC (provided that they are honest about it, and you now know they aren't). Once you have a good candidate or two, buy the one with the best Amazon reviews -- I ordered the Motorola SB6141 SB6141 Modem for example, 4 years ago.

Bring back the TWC modem you are leasing to one of their offices (say, at Colonie Center), then connect your own, and give them a call -- they will walk you through the process of activating it.

    Important:

  • DO CHECK that you are no longer being charged for leasing the modem that you returned,
  • DO CHECK AGAIN 6 months later -- they brought back the charge on my bill "accidentally" later on (because of course they did).

If the verizon router looks like this, it's a decent modem but a garbage router. If it's one of the newer ones, it's actually pretty solid, and your wifi problems aren't coming from the router. I've had both of these, the newer one is good enough that I didn't bother hooking up my nice router when I moved in..

Buy something like this. Set it up. Turn the wifi off on the TWC/Verizon FiOS router. Enjoy having decent wifi.

Not off the top of my head as I'm fairly new here and plan to get more into hiking the area this summer season. However, I find www.localhikes.com to be a good resource for finding hikes to do subsequent research on. Also, the ADK Trails (Forest Preserve Series) are good guides (e.g., Amazon Link).

A very short hike would be Vroman's Nose a little SE of Albany. A fairly nice (but flat) trail is around Peeble's Island NE of Albany. Otherwise, the Lake George area ADKs would be a good bet for day hikes.

Good luck and hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I comes along.

If you're new to multirotors or RC in general we usually recommend you start small with something like this Hubsan: http://www.amazon.com/Hubsan-H107L-2-4GHz-Quadcopter-Lights/dp/B00OV4VVU4/ref=dp_ob_title_def

Once you've mastered the micro you're ready to move up to the mini quads with FPV. Budget about $500 to get started which will cover the cost of the quad, radio transmitter, FPV goggles, batteries and battery charger. You'll need to build it yourself but people in the community (like our club) can help you learn the basics. You quickly become very good at soldering. If you're looking for something pre-built and ready to fly then expect to pay even more.

The reality of FPV quads is that you will break stuff, and soon you'll be looking to go faster, so you'll be upgrading or building new quads.

It's a bit of a money pit at times.

Also parent of a 6 month old girl here.

I think we've used those changing stations once. Ever. We bring a chux pad wherever we go and change her on top of that. You can quickly turn any reasonable surface in to a changing area. We also bring disposable gloves in case hand washing facilities aren't available.

As far as bars go, in Albany we've only been to Orchard Tavern. They loved her there. We usually take her out nearby in downtown Troy. She's been to the Confectionery and Plumb Oyster Bar several times. One of the bartenders at Plumb is a doula and held her for a while. She's been to Dinosaur, Nighthawks, and Little Rice Ball less often, but those were all good experiences as well.

Wow thanks. I’ll send you a DM later if that’s ok? I am trying to connect a laptop. One issue I’ve realized is I’m missing a power cord for one of the monitors. Probably lost in the move and the second I buy a new one I’ll find it lol. But that only explains one monitor. The other one I can’t get to turn on either and I’m wondering if I just don’t have a good dock.

This is the dock I have Kensington USB 3.0 Dual Display Docking Station for Windows, Mac OS and Surface Pro (K33972US) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009F7E730/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VpcwDbK9NGRSP

And here’s my setup.

I got a HotCat off Amazon. Claims to have a 120 mile range. I put it up inside by the window, facing SouthWest and have crystal clear picture most of the time. I get CBS, Fox, NBC and WTEN along with several other channels. I live in Round Lake so it covers a good distance.

About 24. It would create roughly on average 24 jobs, which statistically less than half of would be to people inside the community, the rest to people outside of the community. Nothing good can come from this bottling plant.

Moreso even than the articles below go into, the road to the bottling plant already is plugged up to an insane point with school in the morning which is why they recently installed a roundabout which has been beneficial, but does not stem the tide of traffic in the mornings especially around school hours where it gets very plugged up. Also, where they want to build this extraction plant people have built there homes in purposefully to be away from the general hustle and bustle of the city, with nothing but the mountains around them as their little piece of happiness, soon to have a factory and all the truck noise and traffic every day. Granted, we are a very small town and nothing like Albany, but it's because its a small quiet place that isn't anything like the city that makes this place great.

It's an SDR (software defined radio).. the SDR usb dongle can be found on Amazon for less than $20 and the software used is free. The kit antenna sucks so you may want to look into adding a better antenna.

Never really seen a NY State flag for sale anywhere but here's one on Amazon for ~6 bucks

http://www.amazon.com/York-State-Brand-LARGE-Banner/dp/B000G2OZ6W

This one looks better: http://www.amazon.com/NEW-YORK-OFFICIAL-STATE-FLAG/dp/B003VFMSEC

Amazon is pretty safe, and I doubt you'll find anything close to this awesome at the costumer.

I got one of these for my trumpet and it works pretty well: link

You won't be disappointed. The tajin is the most important part IMO. I throw some in the glass as well as the rim, You can get it at Walmart in the Hispanic Foods section.

I’m closer to Albany and I have similar issues picking channels. I’m not sure if it’s the topography nature of the area or that the network antennas are not strong because when it’s windy or bad weather I have trouble picking up just the normal channels like FOX and CBS. I’ve tried all types of antennas and there’s not one that does better than any other. However I did find out that my flat antenna does worse at the window (which faces West). This the antenna I have but there’s not antenna that’s done an amazing job

As soon as I got the rental notice I went to amazon and bought the exact same model I had through time warner for about 50 dollars:

Not a TW fan. I did get a good deal when I tried to switch to Dish, though. So now atleast I'm not paying an arm and a leg for cable.
