Done, took about 3 hours. Was alot easier than I thought it was going to be, and I have alot of things i'm going to change if/when I do it over again. The 2 biggest issues are the dimmer in the bottom, it works great but next time i'm going to put it out of sight out of the case, it works for now and doesn't look too bad. Next, I wired the whole thing in series, like a zigzag, so you might notice that the top shelf is dimmer than the bottom shelf. Frankly, this is good enough for me, but next time i'm going to run one wire, acting as a sort of wire harness, the brightness difference is pretty noticeable, but still looks good, I regret not doing it this time but ehhhhhh. I don't know much about electrical so I wasn't even thinking about this when I was doing it, it's an easy fix for next time or when I re-do this one, live and learn. The bottom 2 shelves are essentially place holders, all of those figures will be moving out soon to make room for more scales, and I have the rest of the keions coming in a few days. For a first time 3 Hour DIY, I think it's pretty good but it definitely has it's issues, what do you think?

My collection is pretty modest in size, but I still think one Detolf would not be enough to display each figure nicely. I like admiring the work on all my figures hence the generous amount of space for each shelf. That and Black Heart is huge so she demands a shelf for herself.

but otherwise, I think the Detolf shelves are going to be your best bet especially if you've got a lot of figures. Two might be safer to get because you'll be able to spread out your collection and even if its too much space, just gives you more incentive to buy more to fill the spaces ;)

The 3" fit nicely under prize and single figmas, the 4" and 5" fit great under standard scale figures as well as the scales with huge bases.

I was a very "keep everything in the original package!" person 'till recently when I sorta run out of room, so I'm also in the middle of switching putting them into smaller spaces too. Currently using those craft material boxes like the ones nanoduckies used to use, but I want to eventually move to the drawer style stuffs like this one.

Another friend also suggested tackle boxes like mentioned by invertedcranegame, but I'm not too familiar with those.

Edit: Oh forgot to mention, I throw the plastic protection thing out and flatten the original box and keep the box like that. The only exception I made is if it's a Snow Miku. Those boxes are too unique to flatten.

Although i've built foam risers before to great success, If you want more flexibility, Ultra Pro Deck Boxes + the like are very useful.
They aren't too expensive and are transparent. They also come with 2 for the price of 1 deck box.

If you just want staircase risers for nendoroids, I bought mine locally. Some scrounging on the subreddit should net you some decent sellers.

Kinda flimsy but they work. I got the bigger size to fit larger nendo/figma kits or for scales with extra parts. I took the cardboard the box came in and cut 'slats' to put into the grooves in the middle to break each bin into two parts.

Each 'half-bin' is perfectly sizes for a single nendoroids spare parts. Easily fit 3 faceplates and accessories.

48 total half-bin means its good bang for the buck.

You gotta do a bit of soldering after cutting up the strips but it was honestly pretty easy despite being my 2-3rd time soldering.

It's fantastic. Yeah, I found an unopened one for sale at amazon.co.jp. This is the listing there. It looks like there is only one left for sale now! There were three up for sale a couple of weeks ago. The only hiccup I've had is that the right ear doesn't seat properly, looking at the comments on MyFigureCollection, it's a common problem.

I shipped it to the freight-forwarder Tenso who then combined it with a bunch of other orders for me and mailed it on. Tenso are excellent, I definitely recommend using them.

Seconding this. I have one too (though I use the one that also has small drawers), and it works wonderfully. I love not having to get out all the boxes when I want to change the poses up.

For OP, here are some examples how how the nendos fit. Small drawers for normal nendos, and larger ones for the nendos with bulkier parts.

If you only have (or plan to have) a small handful of nenoroids, it might not be worth it to have all that storage space. If you plan to get more though, it’s definitely something to think about.

Thanks so much! I highly recommend these LED strips. They're paper thin so they bend easily at the corners of a detolf. You'll need this adapter for the power.

My only complaint about them is that they're a little too bright at first. You get used to them though! You can't beat this nice even white lighting and the ease of installation.

  I am not 100% happy with the light strip I got. They are super sensitive to the power draw and flickers time to time(maybe it's the power adapter =/). Though, it's cheap and does its job pretty well!

Depends on the actual figure itself.. a simple 1/8 scaled Miku can weigh about 300g but a figure like 1/8 Ultimate Madoka can weigh around 2kg. Try checking amazon for the weights of your figures.

(Though its safe to assume you'll be fine, unless you have 3 figures the size of ultimate madoka sitting on a single shelf.)

Ok so I was thinking of using the LED strip, then use the T-shape connector and the L-shape connector to connect all the strip together. The T-shape connector will be connect with a cord as well like in the diagram I drew. But I’m a noob and I don’t know if this is possible to make, and what kind of cord or wire should I use in this case? Anyone have any idea or guidance here to help me out?

I know a lot of people recommend a Detolf but I don't live close enough to an Ikea for that to be viable so I went with this one on Amazon. It has been great and I will probably buy a second soon.

Might be smaller than you're looking for, but one possible alternative is using those football or basketball display case things. They should be relatively cheap and be large enough to hold a few scales. Not sure what the budget is but for example something like this could work like a mini-Detolf.

I have two of these from Amazon. I like that they are completely clear and you can put quite a few nendos on them. Here's what they look like with my collection.

There are a lot of options for these. There's a standard 3-piece set on Amazon for about $8.

These are higher end and out of stock, but I love them. They're really customizable.

I believe that the Container Store and Daiso also sell the square and rectangular ones for fairly cheap, if you live near one.

Tbh, I might try and return these, the cables are a bit too short for to reach the floor from the top of the detolf. If the cables were about 5-7 inches longer, these would be perfect for a detolf.

Hey OP, instead of keeping the info in chat I'll post here so others might be able to use it.
I'm assuming you have no experience splicing wires, soldering, or using heat shrink tubing, so I found some quick connect things you should be able to use.

So, the parts I have here are the LED Strip (marked as 'sections' since you will be cutting it), the L Connectors, the 'Wire Harnesses', the Adapters, and the Wire itself.

I drew up a small diagram here with explanation.

If you, or someone you know would be able to do the stuff mentioned above, this could have a lot less parts by doing aware with the adapters and wire harnesses and just soldering the wire between LED strips.
(Maybe there is a local Makerspace near you that could assist)

Also, instead of the LED strip method, I've seen people with LED bars the run the length of the shelf, and have wires to connect up to another bar. Something like this. (search" LED under cabinet lighting")
If the above diagram seems too difficult, or you're not able to get anyone to assist, then this would be a super easy option for you.

I used a LED light strip along the front metal bars of the detolf. Each of my detolfs is set up with this LED strip, power supply, and remote control dimmer. I like this set up better than the dioder because it was cheaper for me (coming out at about $20 per shelf versus the $40 for 2 dioder sets I would need) and used less wires than the dioders (only 1 coming out from the gap between the door and the side of the detolf)

I've spent a silly amount of time looking for the same thing and this is honestly the only thing I've found. Someone posted a thread in this sub within the past week or so talking about how they bought this cabinet and liked it.

Thanks for the props. As for the lights, I have a set of these in each case. They are just beyond long enough to fit up, over, and down again; so the end needs to be cut off. They also, have remotes that operate on the same frequency.

There are other types available as well, including multicolor or soft white.

This is the one I use and it’s amazing fits about 4-5 nendos each row if you carefully place them.

Shipping is 99% of the time cheaper on BIJ, HLJ and HS, but HLJ' prices are more expensive.

HLJ lets you cancel at any time from the control panel before they send you the invoice. But they can cancel on you if they run out of stock (I had a pre-order World is Mine cancelled on me by them due to that).

Whether price goes up or down is dictated usually by the market. Anything Alter, Saber, Limited will be more expensive aftermarket (Look at Saber Lily going 13k already).

Even popular figures go on clearance from time to time, just look at Madoka for under 6k yen :

Bought it about 6 years ago and it's held up through 2 moves so far. Dimensions are almost identical to the DETOLF and I prefer this one because the shelves don't sway with every little vibration. However, you can generally get the DETOLFs way cheaper. I have a couple of them too and they're great for the price I paid.

I use these three level risers, these fit the standard bases only, 3 level risers edit fixed link I also have this set, of 3 smaller risers as well just for other figures.

I use Ultra Pro clear card storage boxes. They are clear plastic boxes used to store cards for game like MTG. They come in different sizes to vary height. They don't look as good as jewelry risers, but are cheaper.

Be careful though, if there is no Ikea around they will charge a lot for shipping. You can find them on ebay for roughly $150. I bought this for $166 and free shipping from Amazon. If there is an Ikea around, defiantly get the cheaper one.

If you're not too worried about reselling, and are more doing it because they look cute on display, I'd say invest in an actual storage system.

Thanks! They are the ustellar dimmable LED strips from Amazon. I also mounted them in an aluminum channel system instead of sticking them directly on the glass.

The one in the second highest shelves of the middle and right detolf is from the container store. It's a 5x5x10 inches (dxhxw) riser.
There is a 4x4x4 riser in the second shelf of the right detolf as well which I got from amazon.

If you don't want to swallow the balls-expensive shipping and don't live near an IKEA, Amazon will ship this one to you for free. I mean yeah, it's 120 bucks, but that's still less than shipping a Detolf. Me, I'm waiting for that Memphis location to open up, grab me a few over there.

I just happened to install my 3rd detolf and brand new lighting systems for all 3 so I think I can help you out.

Before I just bought some standard LED lightings from IKEA but eventually had go install something else because of how many wires that were spilling out of my detolf (and I hate wires).
So.... I finally opted to try out some LED Light strips. These were the ones I bought and by george are they bright. I mean so bright they could be used as runway lights in an airport. The LED strips were easy enough to install as it already came with an adhesive strip on the back so all you had to do was wrap it around inside the detolf and plug it in.

I also had to buy the power brick(mandatory) and light switch(optional) with it. The LED strip doesn't come with its own power source so I had to buy a separate one and I also bought the dimmer switch just so I could attach it to the side of my desk and turn the lights on and off in a convenient matter (unfortunately the dimmers don't actually work on those LED strips but still useful).

This was what I had before and now with the new lighting system This is what I get. Quite the upgrade no?

But it's mainly used as a raiser. You might be able to makeshift use it as a single display.
Otherwise if you're talking about a single enclosed container for a single figure, there's not too big of a market for cheap display cases that I know of.

These are the ones I've got. They can cleanly fit 5 Nendoroid bases side-by-side (square or circular, same diameter) per tier, so 15 max on the riser, and there's space for another 5 on the shelf itself. They're a bit on the bigger side but they make up for it with capacity.

I don't live near an IKEA, but I also don't own a glass case. There are other options, but getting close to a detolf price range is difficult (not impossible).

If you can, try searching your local craigslist listings to see people getting rid of their glass cabinets. If not, Amazon sells this which is pretty close to a detolf.

Eh, personally I would suggest against the one you linked in particular. It's huge for one, most people don't have 64 Nendoroids or even enough tiny accessories to fit in 1/4 of these bins. (with the lower amount of Nendoroid accessories in each release I don't even think this will be a problem much longer anyway). So you'll have to use it for other things too, which leads me to my next point...

It only has one sized container, and that size is extremely small. There's a ton of Nendoroid accessories that won't fit in those smaller sized boxes. What this means is that you'll have some accessories that you will have to put elsewhere, which could lead to them getting lost.

For example, Nendoroid Maiko Madoka's parasol won't fit inside one of those boxes very well.

Also the smaller sized bins means there's more of a chance of something like a sword catching on the inner lip and breaking as you pull out the drawer.

Instead of getting the 2 by 1.5 inch, most people should just splurge the extra couple dollars, and get one that has varying sized boxes for a few dollars more.

Also I suggest getting a smaller variant. They're stackable, so you can just get however many you need. No need to get the 64 sized jumbo size right away.

Yeah, you could use them to add more figures or to just give a bit more depth to your current display. You could search for acrylic risers on amazon, or look in hobby shops in your area. I use these steps for my funko pops, but I'm not sure that model would be spacious enough for scale figures.
