Epson Perfection V850 Pro scanner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCEJMG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Mgj2DbESVWW6G

I scanned ~50,000 35mm negative frames and nearly 2,000 slides with three of these. I was very happy with the results, and they’re still running!

They have several different transparency adapters, including slides, 35mm strips, medium format film, and oversized film. They’re also great for scanning paper documents under 8.5”x14”.

Good luck!

In general, for this and similar questions that might lead to more, I recommend people take a look at Don William's book Saving Stuff: How to Care for and Preserve Your Collectibles, Heirlooms, and Other Prized Possessions. It covers material culture as well as paper, so if you end up with medals, uniform parts, knives, photos, etc. the answers for everything can be found within.

Silent Cinema by Paolo Cherchi Usai and The Death of Cinema
These are good places to stat for moving image archiving.

The National Film Preservation Foundation Guide. This is the step by step process and how to book. Has great case studies.

The Digital Dilemma. A great report done by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on the the role of digitization in modern cinema.

We have a KV-S3065C Panasonic and it also has old rollers. I have managed to clean them up and they worked OK. I know there are rubber cleaner and rejuvinator products that might be worth checking out. On an unrelated note, I can't get the scanner to work with my newer computer - I've updated all the drivers but still have issues. Have you had that problem? In any case, PM me, if you'd like - I'll ask my boss if we are going to hold on to the scanner (there'd been talk of tossing it to clear up desk space). If we do toss it, I'll pull the rollers off first and send them to you.

Regular Expressions is a good backup to have as well.

It doesn't take much to learn and you can use it inside of PSIGEN if you have access to it.

Laura Millar's book Archives, Practices and Principles is a good starter on the role of an archivist: https://www.amazon.com/Archives-Principles-Laura-Agnes-Millar/dp/1555707262

Developing and Maintaining Practical Archives by Gregory Hunter is what I used when I was in class a few years ago.

Are you referring to something like these mylar bags?

Chances are that the things you're receiving books in aren't archival and therefore won't help slow the progression of damage.
