Here's a blog reading list for you: the venerable Fiddy Snails, Fanserviced, and Snow White and the Pear. These blogs have been INVALUABLE resources for me in learning about skincare and AB.

And here's a very, very, very, VERY loose shopping list, with one major caveat: PATCH. TEST. Don't just buy a new product and slap it on your face. Choose a spot on your face - somewhere where you break out easily, like next to your nose - and dab a little of that product there every day for 10-15 days. See what happens. This is how I learned that my beloved Hadalabo Gokujyun lotion doesn't break me out, but it does break out a lot of other people.

CLEANSERS:
You need two. An oil cleanser to use in the evening to thoroughly remove sunscreen and makeup, followed by a foaming or gel cleanser. I like Hada Labo Gokujyun foaming cleanser as a second cleanser (it's the only one I use in the morning). Kose Softymo is an affordable oil cleanser for the evening.

ACTIVES:
These are ingredients that Do Things to your face, such as exfoliants (BHA, AHA, vitamin C) and disinfectants (benzoyl peroxide). I am drastically simplifying. At the moment you're using two products that contain benzoyl peroxide, a disinfectant. It's time to round out your active diet, with the big caveat that irritation = redness. I'll say it again - ditch the astringent, it's only causing the redness you're trying to avoid. If you're going to add new actives to your routine, do it very gradually. Patch test, then start using it every other day.

Things you could try: I'm in love with C21.5 vitamin C serum. This is an affordable powerhouse of vitamin C, that promotes skin cell turnover and does a bang-up job of dealing with pigmentation. It does oxidise easily, though, so you need to keep it in the fridge and toss it when it starts to turn yellow. In terms of exfoliants, Cosrx BHA Power Liquid and AHA Power Liquid are fan favourites. They feel remarkably gentle on the skin, and do a great job of gently exfoliating. If I were you I'd start with the BHA, as BHAs are great at exfoliating within the pore, soothing redness and treating/preventing acne.

SUNSCREEN
I'm here to give you the greatest lesson you'll ever learn: the best anti-ageing treatment is sunscreen. You are 15. It's time to set up a lifelong sunscreen habit. And Asian sunscreens feel better than any western equivalent. RatzillaCosme is a goldmine of sunscreen reviews. The first Asian sunscreen most people try is the legendary Biore Watery Aqua, which is inexpensive and easy to snag on Amazon.

DA SNAILZ
Snail products are wonderful at reducing redness and inflammation. There are just... so many snail products out there. A great starting point is Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream, which is a great final moisturiser at night if you've got oilier skin. I'm also partial to the all-in-one repair cream, which is actually more of a 'whipped' essence than a cream, but feels wonderfully soothing on my oilier skin.

Hope this helps!

Wow, that's a pretty big haul! It's great that you've got some knowledge of basic skincare and makeup! You can also check out the Beginner's guide for some more information on Asian skincare. The Holy Grail list is also a good introductory resource for different types of layering skincare products, and some makeup products. If you know your skin type and concerns, you can also check out the February Routine thread to see what other users have in their routine and if it helps them.

Now, on to the main concern of your post!

Primers

Like other users have mentioned in your original post, you do have two eye primers. Do you intend on wearing eyeshadow often? If yes, I suggest that you try them and pick the one that works the best for you. If it's possible, you could return both and try the samples instead.

Setting Powder

I think the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder and the Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder are great. The best thing about them is that they work wonderfully (given that it's not caked on), and the smooth finish lasts the entire day for me. They are also cost efficient, and you can find plenty of reviews online.

Sun protection

I haven't tried that Shiseido sunscreen, so I can't comment on the quality and effectiveness of it. I suggest that you try it to make sure that:

  • the sun protection is enough for you in your daily activities
  • the finish of the cream is appropriate for your skin type (is it greasy? matte?)
  • your skin doesn't become irritated by the sunscreen

I prefer using the Hada Labo UV Creamy Gel and the newly formulated Biore
    Aqua Rich Watery Essence
. I find that both of them do not cause me to break out, or leave my face feeling oily and greasy. They are seriously my HG. You might want to consider trying these as well! They are a bit cheaper than the Shiseido one, and the PA+++/++++ protection is a huge plus!

    Lip tint

For $12, the Sephora lip stain is not a bad pick up! That's about on par for most Asian lip tints.

    Eyeshadow palettes

Many Asian eyeshadows are neutral colors and tones, and are not as pigmented as other American brands. Personally, I don't mind this because it suits my tastes, but others might. I am a fan of the Urban Decay Naked palettes, and I do recommend them if they aren't out of your price range. I also like the NYX palettes because they are quite affordable with good color pay-off, and the Innisfree Mineral Single Shadows because of the sparkles in some of the selections.

Before you purchase, you can also do some research and look for reviews of other palettes that you're interested in (unless you feel like being adventurous!). Most reviews include swatches so you can see how that color looks on that individual.

I can't comment on the blush or lip primer since I don't use those types of products often in my routine.

Regarding your skin type and concerns... What is your current routine? For color correction, there are many products that help with lightening redness. I have seen much success with using Missha's Time Revolution FTE (old formula) and Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule. These products usually go on sale often, so be sure to check out the Missha sales. You could also look into incorporating some vitamin C, AHA, or BHA products in your routine as well.

There are also many moisturizing creams that can moisturize your skin! You can look through the two lists I linked above to find some of the popular ones that ABers recommend.

Lastly... before I fall asleep ... You don't have to be afraid of skincare and makeup! The process of finding your HG products will require trial and error. Here, I would like to stress that makeup and skincare is very much YMMV. What works for one person may not work for another, so that's why it's important to patch test and do research! For beginners, I would not recommend buying a full sized, expensive, product before trying a sample of it or doing research! The best thing about Sephora is that you can ask for a sample to try at home before you commit to the purchase. That way, if it causes a breakout, you wouldn't have to worry about wasting it or having to make a trip to the store to return it. In addition, by being mindful of the ingredients, you can potentially find out which ingredient(s) cause a bad reaction and avoid it.

We're all very friendly and helpful here, and many of us are able to answer any questions you may have! There's a daily thread that's stickied, and you can ask specific questions there.

    Best of luck!

I'm pretty okay with my routine so far but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for new things for me to try. I'm just hitting 30, have combo skin with deep acne scarring (boxcar & icepick), PIH, and large pores (hurray for me...).

AM Routine:

  • Water / raw honey mask: Splash face with lukewarm water and 3-4x a week apply honey to skin while damp, leave for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off.

  • Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid / Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel: I alternate them and only use acids every other day. Wait 20 minutes after application.

  • Paula's Choice Resist C15: Sample, switching to OST once it runs out, use every other day after the acids. Wait 10 minutes after application.

  • Benton Aloe BHA Toner: I kind of want to switch to a more moisturizing or nourishing toner but I'm not sure. Wait until absorbed.

  • Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence: Love it, probably won't change it, it seems like it isn't doing anything because it's so innocuous but it doesssssss. Wait until absorbed.

  • Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel: Really awesome for the humid S/S season but I feel like it just isn't appropriate for the super cold and dry F/W. I was thinking of trying Glossier's Priming Moisturizer, EltaMD AM Therapy, or Rohto Hada Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Milk but can't decide. If there's something even better I'd certainly try it.

  • EltaMD UV Lotion Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+: Originally intended as a body sunscreen. Works well, doesn't leave too bad of a white cast, but has a greasy finish. Usually not a big deal since I'm housebound, but I want something more cosmetically elegant that will play nice with all the layering I do. I was thinking Rohto Hada-Labo UV Moist Emulsion SPF 50/PA +++ or Missha Time Revolution White Cure Blanc Sun Protector SPF50+ PA+++. Any suggestions are welcome.

    PM Routine:

  • Mineral oil: I use pure mineral oil as an oil cleanse and usually spend about 10 minutes very gently massaging my skin. I want to try a fancy cleansing balm or oil, but I'm not sure the added expense is worth it.

  • CeraVe Foaming Cleanser: 3x a week I use a zinc soap recommended by my derm, otherwise I'm fairly happy with CeraVe. I'd like to try MRCS but it's not very likely I'll be able to buy it any time soon. Wait 5-10 minutes after cleansing.

  • PocketDerm Treatment: Tretinoin 0.04%, Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid %7; I use three pumps for my face and neck. Wait 10-15 minutes after application.

  • Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence: Just started this and haven't noticed any amazing changes so far but skincare products take time to work so I'm being patient. Wait until absorbed.

  • Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule: Immediately makes a noticeable difference in my skin, especially under my eyes. Wait until absorbed.

  • EltaMD PM Therapy Moisturizer: Lots of niacinamide, great cosmetic finish, feels fantastic in general but is a rather light nighttime moisturizer so I always need a little exta oomph in F/W.

  • Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream / Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX: I alternate the two as a sleeping pack. Not sure how impressed I am with the Laneige versus just laying on Cream + Vaseline at night.

    Weekly:

  • 3x a week: Sheet mask on days I use the Laneige sleeping pack, MBD Bird's Nest or Black Pearl. Some of the other varieties cause a mysterious mild rash on my neck. Want to try Benton and Innisfree masks next.
  • 1x a week: Green clay mask with turmeric, ACV, and honey.

Okay! Thank you for being patient with me. Crazy days. And thank you for sharing your routine with me - that helps.

First, remember that you didn't develop this permatan overnight - it's not going to go away overnight either. The principles of rolling back pigmentation are the same whether the pigmentation is long-standing or recent.

When you are fighting pigmentation you need to pay diligent, daily attention to multiple factors that control pigmentation. There are five, check out this post.

My grasp on the science of pigmentation is poor, but a word that comes up repeatedly is tyrosine or tyrosinase - that is essential to creating pigment. Suppressing that chemical or interrupting its effectiveness is key.

So. Of the five components needed, in your routine you have 2: an AHA to accelerate the turn over of skin, and niacinamide, which prevents pigment from migrating from lower layers of the skin to the surface.

You need more. Arbutin, licorice, and tranexamic acid. And a lot of it. I'm revamping my routine to make sure every step contains at least one ingredient that moves me toward my goals.

In your AM routine, you only have a moisturizer - you could add a toner, an essence, and a serum to get you toward your goal. Likewise in the evening, you could add a toner, a second serum.

Oh! and a vitamin C serum - an LAA vitamin C serum is key to countering pigmentation.

If it agrees with you, the Hada Labo Shirojyun lotion is beloved. It contains arbutin, and MAP - a form of Vitamin C, which your routine is missing.

To get some licorice, you could try something like the It's Skin Power 10 Formula Effector LI which is all licorice. Or even better, my favorite Shark Sauce - it contains licorice, and niacinamide, and green tea, and N-Acetyl Glucosamine. It's a real powerhouse.

I've been interested in this Taiwanese brand, UNT for their product line which contains heavy tranexamic acid. I'm planning on trying the toner - that's an ingredient I have a hard time getting into my routine outside of sheet masks.

Speaking of sheet masks - a daily sheet mask that has concentrated licorice, arbutin, tranexamic acid will only help. I'm using some from Dr. Morita that have all of those things plus niacinamide and MAP vitamin C. It has all of the good things in it.

I also want to try this range from Naruko which combines tranexamic acid with mandelic acid, an AHA.

Which brings me to my other point - turning over your skin through exfoliation. If your skin is not especially sensitive and is handling the Mizon serum well - bring it into your morning routine (note, technically as an active it should go immediately after cleansing). Then once you've done that for a month or six weeks, consider adding a stronger AHA in one step, and continue cautiously escalating that. My fellow ABers can be in my mind a little over cautious with chemical exfoliants. Cautiously used, and increased over time they provide a lot of benefit.

Finally, to come back to point one - this is gonna take a while. Remember, it takes 28 days for your skin to turn over, so you aren't going to start seeing any results from anything in less than a month. If you take my advice and seek out a toner, an essence, and a serum, you're gonna want to introduce them one at a time for a minimum of two weeks. So that's six weeks to ramp up to a routine that incorporates all the skin active ingredients needed to fight pigmentation and then I would honestly say a minimum of 3 months to see what they're doing.

Take your time with this. Pictures every week to see your progress. It will come, but it will be incremental. (You could make a very fine series of posts documenting your journey on /r/AsianBeauty, but that's an idle suggestion!)

Good luck. I'm not totally anti-hydroquinone, but I find it risky and I just think you should thoroughly try for a long period of time other options first.

For around 10 years now! I haven't perfected anything, and ymmv as always, but here's what I've found and tried

  • Exfoliating wash cloths are a must! The first one I tried was one I found at Marshalls called the Cleanlogic stretch bath and shower cloth. It's on Amazon for $5.50 with Prime, but I got it for $4 at Marshalls. I had been looking for something like this for a while because of how much people rave about Korean Italy towels and Japanese Salux Towels, but I just hadn't pulled the trigger yet. The Cleanlogic is really great. I get a good lather going, then really scrape at my arms and legs (probably start slow and be careful because depending how hard you rub and how hot you like your showers, the water may burn), and use it more gently on the rest of my body. Shave right after. No more razor burn, the kp on my legs are totally gone, and I have only one or two new bumps on my arms. A couple days ago I finally bought a Salux towel (at Mitsuwa for cheaper than Amazon) and it's also fantastic. A little gentler if anything and it doesn't stretch, but same idea. Haven't tried the Italy towels yet.
  • Acids work for some people I use Stridex in the red box, and any leftover Mizon 8% AHA after I use them on my face. I used the Stridex for a while before I got the cloths and I think I saw some difference, but the washcloth was way more dramatic. Because of the order I tried these in, I can't honestly tell if the AHA did much for me. Other people seem to love AHA lotions like Amlactin and Alpha Hydrox, but a lot of formulations may be less effective because of pH level. Paula's Choice is a good resource for vetting AHA lotions. Also be careful with AHAs because they can increase photosensitivity. When you do start showing your legs, use sunscreen if you've been AHA-ing.
  • There is no perfect solution I've scoured the internet and everywhere says the same thing. Keratosis pilaris could be related to genetics, hormones, age, friction from clothes, pore blockage, sun exposure (helps or hurts depending who you ask), weather, and/or God. It's gonna be an ongoing thing until they're ready to leave.

So I've managed to limit the new bumps for now, but the PIH from KP is real. I'm casually experimenting with vitamin c and retinol (on different nights or with at least 30 minutes between application), but I think it's gonna take time. Niacinamide is also supposed to help so I sometimes sprinkle some of my Scinic Honey AIO. Let me know if you do find something that works for this because I hate it!

Ooh, that's fun. I'm procrastinating so I'm going to ramble a little, here. My favourite sheet masks are from the brand My Beauty Diary. Super affordable and great quality. I'd recommend trying a set of assorted masks so you can test out a bunch of varieties. My Scheming is another great brand I have less experience with, but really like so far, and here's a link to a huge 24pc variety pack.

Another fun "luxury" category that's super useful for dealing with hot weather is facial sprays! I've been really liking the Benton Honest TT Mist lately. I keep it in the fridge so it's very refreshing. My SO keeps a spray bottle of Thayer's toner on his bedside table for a quick spritz before falling asleep, lol. Really helps when it's too hot to live.

Maybe look into a wash-off mask, also? That's a nice addition to a routine. I don't have too many I'm super into at the moment. I got the I'm From Honey Mask in the mail yesterday and I'm hoping to try it out soon.

You seem to have done your own research which is good so you can have an understanding on what would work for you and what would not. For your oil cleanser if you're on a budget and don't wear super heavy water-proof makeup The Face Shop's cleansing oil will be enough, however if you do wear water-proof makeup or don't like the runny texture of cleansing oils then the Banila Co. CIZ would be the better option because it's a cleansing balm. I don't wear makeup however so all of that was from what I heard from reviews.

For your 2nd cleanser if you find that the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser is doing everything you need it to do then stick with it. It's good to have a product that's readily available at a nearby store so you don't need to wait for shipping or deal with customs.

For your moisturizer the Recovery Gel might be enough for you since you have combo-oily skin, however some people say this might not provide enough moisture especially in the colder months. If your skin does get drier in the winter or in cold temperature you might want to add another moisturizer into your routine. But since it's the summer you probably don't need two moisturizers ATM.

If you're looking to lighten up scars here's a mini list of ingredients you should look out for:

Vitamin C: A popular vitamin C serum is the C20 or C21.5, the formulation of it however is very unstable so if you don't want to deal with that try the Melano CC intensive anti-spot essence.

Niacinamide: For niacinamide products check out this spreadsheet and this megathread for recommendations.

AHAs: This is very tricky to use since it's an active that can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays. If you don't wear sunscreen on the days after you use it, it can actually be very bad for the skin. A few AHA products include Cosrx AHA 7 whitehead power liquid and Papa Recipe White Flower Clear Up 8% AHA Gel. AHAs can also help you out with your whiteheads but I wouldn't suggest you start using any actives or chemical exfoliants until you have your skincare routine down. If you do want to start getting rid of your whiteheads try using a konjac sponge with your 2nd cleanser. I personally like konjac sponges that are teardrop or heart shaped since the point end of them is really good for getting into the sides of the noses, which is where dirt and sebum collect the most for me.

Licorice: It's Skin Power 10 Formula Effector LI and Snowise EX Brightening Serum

Arbutin: This ingredient seems to be more common in sheet masks but every day products with arbutin in it include Hada Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Lotion (Hada labo has an entire line of products called the "Shirojyun" line with arbutin in it) and LadyKin Vanpir Dark Repair Cream

Tranexamic acid: This ingredient isn't very popular but the brand Naruko seems to use it a lot including their Apple Seed and Tranexamic Acid Black Spots and Lines Defying Lotion and Apple Seed and Tranexamic Acid Black Spots and Lines Defying Moisturizer

Fermented soy: The brand SANA is very popular for their use of fermented soy in their products, some of their most popular products include their Soy Milk Astaxanthin Lifting Gel, Isoflavone Lotion and isoflavone wrinkle eye cream

Once you have your basic routine down that's when you can start adding serums, ampoules, essences and exfoliators to your routine. You should also always wait in between introducing products into your routine. Many beginners start by adding everything all at once, the problem with this is that if you break out you don't know what product is doing it or if your skin is improving you don't know which products are helping with that. Add one new product every 2-4 weeks into your routine so you can get a good understanding on what that product's doing to your skin before you add another product in. It might seems like a long time to wait but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Also just to let you know, questions like these would be better to put into the daily help thread that's stickied to the top of main page everyday. Sorry if this is a bit long.

I LOVE AZELAIC ACID. So I pretty well thought I would live with a red face forever along with a severely damaged moisture barrier. The biggest thing that helped me was azelaic acid. I use Melazepam from Amazon. Cheap and works! It's thick at first but smoothes into my skin leaving it kinda matte. At first it itched like crazy and I wasn't using it consistently enough. Then after more research, I decided to use it up and give it a chance. Along with anything high in ceramide, my skin got used to the 20% AzA. Maybe around the 10th day of twice daily use, my skin finally started to look normal. I also switch my oil cleanser to an olive oil based one and saw even more improvement in my redness. I've just added in Vit C to my under eye area and continuing to use Melazepam around the rest of my face and neck and my ENTIRE COMPLEXION is EVEN NOW! Would never have believed that was possible. Melazepam has also minimized my SFs on my nose, has finally stopped this ingrown hair on my neck from forming (I've had it for years!!!), and has cleared all the CCs on my forehead. I repeat: I loooooove azelaic acid, specifically Melazepam!

Current routine:

AM

Garnier Micellar Water - pink cap or Cerave Foaming cleanser

Cosrx Aha/bha Clarifying Treatment Toner

BELITAE Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid to my under eye area and upper cheeks

Melazepam to the rest of my face and neck, especially my nose. Sometimes I wait after the Vit C but not usually since I don't use them in the same spots.

I do wait 15-20 minutes after my actives step.

SCINIC First Treatment Essence 3 skin method. My face loves this more than the Missha FTE.

SCINIC Snail All In One Ampoule or SCINIC Honey All In One Ampoule depending on the day.

CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion

A'PIEU PURE BLOCK Natural Sun Cream SPF45/PA+++ I don't see much sunlight at all but when I do, this one keeps me from turning beet red imediately upon application.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Derma Green-Cure Solution Recover Cream This is the best thing I've found for redness and skin barrier repair! My skin loves ceramides so much and this soothes like nothing I've found yet.

Medela Tender Care Lanolin Tube on my lips. Yes it's nip cream. I couldn't use it all up while nursing and it causes my skin to redden so it's perfect for a little lip color.

PM

ROHTO Hada Labo Gokujun Cleansing Oil My skin reacted to Holika Holika Soda Pore B.b Deep Cleansing Oil so this is my second one to try and I'm really enjoying it.

Cerave Foaming cleanser with a konjac sponge but waiting on
Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam in the mail.

Cosrx Aha/bha Clarifying Treatment Toner

BELITAE Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid to my under eye area and upper cheeks

Melazepam to the rest of my face and neck, especially my nose like the AM.

SCINIC First Treatment Essence 3 skin method.

All depending on how I'm feeling that evening:

LJH TeaTree 90 Essence

SCINIC Snail All In One Ampoule

SCINIC Honey All In One Ampoule

Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence

Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

MIZON Snail Repair Eye Cream

Petitfee Black Pearl and Gold Hydrogel Eye Patch Not sure if I like these or not honestly...

Some or all of these layers followed by CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion and

Guerisson 9 Complex Horse Oil Cream

Pretty sure my shower filter, Mermosis, has also helped my skin and hair.

I also use sometimes REVITABOOST PEEL Anti-Aging Peel Pads or Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid but I skip my AzA on those days and just go back to my regular routine the following day. These are rare for me though because they make me ridiculously red again.

Things I'm waiting on in the mail:

ROSETTE Aqua Ceramide Gel

Rumase BIFIDA Snail Toner

Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam

It's Skin Power 10 Formula - PO Effector

Hoping the all work well for me too!

Hi and welcome to AB!

  • The basics of any AB routine are oil cleanser, foam cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. You're currently missing an oil cleanser and a moisturizer. Unless you'll be keeping the CeraVe and Neutrogena, but even then you still need an oil cleanser.

  • The Cosrx BHA is a good substitute for the Stridex.

  • The Cosrx Galactomyces is a first essence, so it's not like other essences. It's applied immediately after foam cleansing and before a toner. This doesn't replace anything from your original routine, but it is a good product for evening skin tone.

  • The Hada Labo Lotion is a hydrating toner, despite it's name. It should be applied after the Cosrx first essence. If you're looking for the actual moisturizer version of this product, look for the "milk" instead of "lotion".

  • The Biore sunscreen is a fine choice.

  • The Benton Snail Bee Essence is another great choice. Some people find success with this product in multiple departments because it has lots of good ingredients in it.

  • So for an oil cleanser, you have lots of options. For a cheap option, go for the Kose Softymo Deep Oil Cleanser. For a slightly more expensive option, go with the Banila Co. Clean it Zero. You can find either of these on Amazon if that's what you prefer. You need to oil cleanse when you wear sunscreen and/or makeup. This clears out all the gunk from your skin.

  • For a foam cleanser, look for something low pH. Good examples would be the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser and the Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam. (also can be found on Amazon)

  • For a moisturizer, you can keep using the CeraVe if it works for you. If you want an AB option. Check out the Holy Grail Megathread on the sidebar for good suggestions.

That's all i've got. Feel free to ask questions. :)

Hello~ I've been stalking the Korean beauty industry for years, but have never committed due to random reasons. I want to try my hand at it next year (need to use up my stupidly expensive Sephora products). Here's a routine I created - mostly from Snow White & The Pear's reviews. For the record, I have eczema (thanks god, no flares right now) and sensitive (contact allergies), oily skin. I know. How can I have eczema and oily skin? OTL

u/SylphsAndSnowflakes · 7 pointsr/AsianBeauty

It largely depends on where you live and how quickly you need the items. As a general rule, if you're willing to wait a bit, you can find items much cheaper from non-Prime sellers on Amazon and overseas sellers on eBay. Also, if you're just purchasing a few things and they are heavy items, I find it's usually cheaper to stay away from sites with high shipping charges by weight, like Testerkorea and RoseRoseShop.

I usually do a lot of research when I make a new product purchase to find the lowest price from a reputable seller that I can. Partly because I just like shopping online for AB stuff and partly because I make it into a sort of game to see how cheap I can find something. It's like a hobby for me.

I recommend the Honey browser extension for Amazon. If you're looking for something it will tell you if there's a cheaper price available from another seller. It also goes through available coupon codes on many other online sites to see if there's one in the database that works for your order.

Anyway, I'm not sure where you live, but I did a bit of looking (I'm in the U.S.), and this is what I came up with. I can't guarantee these are the best prices out there -- just what I found from a bit of quick looking at a few different places.

Hado Labo foam for $9.40 with free shipping on Amazon (not Prime) here

The Face Shop Cleansing Oil - $9.58 with free shipping from Jolse here or $10.20 on Amazon Prime here.

Shiseido Aging Care Sunscreen on Amazon for $8.20 with free shipping (non-Prime) here.

Rosette Aqua Ceramide Gel - $12.45 with free shipping (non-Prime) on Amazon here.

A bunch of mini reviews and raves:

Missha Misa Ye Hyeon Cleansing Cream, haven't seen reviews about this line of Missha, and since I liked ingredients and that it was a cream for cleansing gave it a chance and so far it doesn't disappoint!

pros: soft, doesn't foam, doesn't dry out, clean well after oil or in the AM, low pH, cheap.

cons: the one thing that was disappointing to me is the smell. Since this line was advertised like pine and ginseng-y, I was hoping to get product smelling like pine (I love timetreasure's smell from sulwhasoo), but this one smells kind of like a nice-smelling soap. Just soap. It's OK, I can live with that...but not what I expected. Smell is not to strong though, for me; Packaging is not very convenient for me - just screw top, which is not great for the bathroom.

HANYUL Pure Artemisia Cleansing Massage Cream, another cleansing cream.

pros: SMELL, it's just amazing...something like fresh cut parsley? Well not exactly, but very fresh and herb-y; and it also low pH, very moisturizing. I am not sure about massage part because I am too lazy for that. The only time I massage my face with it is in the weekend AM, but not for long.

cons: the most obvious is the price; and again, packaging - it's in the tub (gorgeous though, but still).

Hanyul Pure Artemisia Deep cleansing oil, cleansing oil, I find it a lot like illi cleansing oils, a bit thinner, and smells like fresh herbs. Does the job, doesn't sting eyes...but WNR because illi is cheaper. (bought it only because there was a huge discount on amazon).

Hanyul Pure Artemisia Purifying Mask, clay mask - I like it because it isn't drying like others clay masks, it doesn't pull skin when drying! I don't know how, but it's very gentle. And it's calming - no redness when I wash it off, no irritation, no tight feeling. But pricey, especially for such a small jar - only 60 ml(

Rave: SKIN AQUA SARAFIT Essence UV (SPF50+ PA++++), bought this sunscreen as sebum/water resistant one for my husband, but tried it myself and I am impressed! After biore milk's fiasco, I was afraid of sunscreens-alcoholics, but skin aqua is changing my mind...It does smell strongly of alcohol when applying, but somehow it manages not to dry out my skin, but even moisturize! And currently I am not even using creams in the AM, just cezanne lotion, melano CC and TO marine serum (which is like water). It also dries quickly, non-greasy, matte on my husband (on bare skin) but shiny on me((( But overall and with the price it's my favorite now.

Rave: Ginger sugar essential lip balm, the one in the tube. This is forever HG, it's like occlusive, but light...soothes, and heals, and shiny like lip gloss, a bit sticky, but not to much. Want to try night pack too now.

(Sorry for late reply, was away during weekend!)

My skin type is oily, very acne-prone, sensitive (especially get rashes from oat extracts and most essential oils, can't use regular AHA/BHAs), and very damaged from long term use of anti-acne topical creams.

Common ingredients that strangely clog my fussy face:

  • Betaine (aka Trimethylglycine)
  • Aloe Vera :(

I get especially painful cystic volcanoes from:

  • Mineral oil (even just a rinse-off cleanser is a big no-no)
  • Most "seed oil"s
  • Most essential oils
  • Most plant extracts/oils

My routine.. I can share, but I do not recommend doing my routine lol :p My skin has seen some shit, and I can't use a lot of popular products.

This is my "base" routine (doesn't break me out, gives me happy chok-chok skin)

    AM:

  1. Garnier Micellar Water -- pink cap version (my oily skin makes its own "sleeping pack" while I sleep, so I need this lol)
  2. Himalaya Neem Face Wash
  3. Clear Extra Strength Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (has zinc pyrithione and climbazole, effective for fungal acne)
  4. Hada Labo Tamagohada Mild Peeling Lotion (only available in Singapore and Malaysia, if I'm not mistaken -- I hoard these by the yearly supply)
  5. Hada Labo Gokujyun Moist
  6. Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium (additional step only for winter)
  7. Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum (my main source of niacinamide; caution: has olive oil that causes problems for some people)
  8. Hada Labo Gokujyun Milk
  9. Sunkiller Perfect Strong Plus N
  10. Makeup -- I mostly use Signature Minerals

    PM:

  11. Garnier Micellar Water -- pink cap version
  12. Himalaya Neem Face Wash
  13. Clear Extra Strength Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
  14. Hada Labo Tamagohada Mild Peeling Lotion
  15. Hada Labo Gokujyun Moist
  16. Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium (additional step only for winter)
  17. Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum
  18. Hada Labo Gokujyun Milk
  19. Hada Labo Koi-Gokujyun Perfect Gel (additional step only for winter)

I usually add products I'm testing in between, or swap out a product to test a new one. I sometimes use sheet masks when I have time. I never use nose strips, nor clay masks, nor any anti-acne topical creams anymore. No spot treatments/etc. I only get new acne when I eat the wrong thing (sugary stuff usually) or from product experimentation.

"Hada Labo Tamagohada AHA+BHA Face Wash" used to be my third cleanser before I started using the Clear shampoo.

I'm not on any medications nor prescriptions of any kind.

    ---

Hopefully, all this is helpful in some way!

I generally do not recommend/post my routine, because my skin is very "special needs", and most of this don't apply to anyone else.

For flaking skin, I love to read /u/Sharkus_Reincarnus 's blog posts. She is on tretinoin too and talks a lot about hydrating skincare products. Here is her routine specifically for tretinoin, and another post about tretinoin skincare.

For me, I have heard great things about rosehip oil added into nighttime creams to boost moisturization(I made this word up). I use it sometimes but sometimes I think it is TOO heavy but YMMV.

I do think AHA is better for surface exfoliation, and is usually the best product for CC's. Especially good for a tretinoin face to consider yourself dry-skinned anyway.

For PIH, introducing more products with niacinamide would be great for skin, and hydrating! I use the Scinic AIO Honey Ampoule and Cerave PM, both are economical products that contain niacinamide at the same time!

Ooo and as for Hada Labo I use their Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion and like it a lot! I use it a hydrating toner after doing all my actives. I (like to) think it plumps my skin up and makes product absorption easier in the rest of my rotuine

u/retrosensibility · 8 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Simple routines are sometimes the best ones! If I have more than 5 steps then forget it, I give up on the whole thing haha. My routine is cleanse, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen. Quick, to the point, and effective! I use retin-a at night (it's formulated in my curology prescription) as well, and I find that it helps a lot with both acne AND oiliness. Here are my products I use!

Cleanser: (Not AB) Purity Made Simple by Philosophy

Serum: LJH Tea Tree 90 Essence (LOVE THIS STUFF, helps with acne and is super light)

Moisturizer: (Also not AB) Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (very light, perfect for oily skin)

Sunscreen: Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence

I hope this is helpful, these are just some product suggestions that worked well for me. A lot of skincare is trial and error, so don't be afraid to try something new! It's also helpful to implement 1 new product at a time. :)

I prefer a pump. But you have to struggle at the last 1/4. I just refill. I am not a huge decanter. Mostly keep stuff in the orignal buttle. Not a lover of dropper bottles. Maybe you get further down the bottle without struggling with it vs a pump? Clearly not air proof, but not all pumps are. I just find them cumbersome. I would decant products out of dropper bottles, if it were easier to get the product out in one shot. The main thing I decant is my Scinic AIO, as it the jar is messy to work with. Also Holika aloe gel, as that cute aloe bottle is hard to control the amount comming out. Some of the bottles broke on me. I drop things. I decant some serums, because I think the antioxidants might last longer in a more opaque/airless bottle.

Bottles I like: These are good airless and opaque pumps. Here. Hard to tell when they are empty though or when you filled them. Looks like it might be clear, but the bottle is hard white plastic. But it keeps out air and light and keeps the ingredients fresh.

These are a bit easier to work with and small, so might be better for travel. Still dark to keep out most of the light but you can see the product. Air cleary gets in.

I am liking these misters, though clearly not for essences. They are a bit larger than I expected. They mist nicely. Again the blue keeps a fair amount of light out. Not to many toners I like to mist, but a few.

u/lgbtqbbq · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

These are my favorite travel bottles- I have a few sets of the pumps which work great for things like toners, essences, facial oils, serums, and thin lotions. I also have a set of the mister bottles and those basically only work for watery toners but they are shockingly great misters for such cheap little bottles.

I use the above pump bottles for CosRX Snail 96, facial oil, Hada Labo Milky Lotion.

If you are using a thicker cream or multiple thicker creams i.e. sleeping packs, I use these also from Amazon. I like that they are opaque so they don't have any issues of UV exposure (don't put any actives into a clear bottle as some degrade in sunlight.)

I use these airless pump bottles for my Dr. Jart Cream, Cerave Moisturizing Cream, and my Sleeping Packs.

I personally have such finicky skin that there's no way I could skip multiple days at a time or multiple days a week of my routine. My skin generally is pretty needy and likes to have a lot of consistent care. If you have any cheap products like Vaseline or the TCFS Sleeping Pack, I'd buy multiples and keep one of each at each house. But if you're using pricier products or ones you don't want to get multiples of, definitely use travel bottles and just leave a bag of mini sizes of your routine at his place!

I live with my bf so I never have this issue- half of our living room and our entire bathroom is dedicated to my skincare/makeup/perfume :)

u/edenharmony · 17 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I'm not Indian so I hope I can help but I tried so many cheap Indian skincare brands when I was in Nepal. My absolute fav for price and quality is Himalaya Herbals! Coming in here to rave about two products -

The is Neem Cleanser is cheap and non irritating. It doesn't dry you out either.

The Neem Clay Mask is amazing too, it really saved my skin when my origins charcoal mask ran out and I think did an even better job in keeping my skin clear!

Fyi amazon has a more than 2x price inflation on these products, so for anyone in Nepal or India, definitely check this brand out :)

u/cakeitup_ · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I've been using mine for several months now. I seriously drench my face with it because of the large amount and affordability LOL. I find that it is great for layering and providing refreshing hydration, but not much else. My skin has been improving lately (less breakouts and inflammation, more even tone), but I'm not sure I can 100% attribute it to Hatomugi. It's mainly hydrating and a little bit calming, if anything. I'm able to use it when my skin is more sensitive as well.

I use Selena Hagaseru Cotton, that are apparently very popular. It has 80 puffs that can peel to 5 sheets each, so 400 total omg. Soft cotton, appropriate size, holds good amount of liquid for masking. I think these are good for the cost, but it tends to fray a bit around the edges during use and tickles my face. I like the nooni toner mask sheets, it's literally like the sheet mask material cut into squares. But these are only 60 pieces total, so it's more on the pricey side.

u/theeternalnoob · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Shoot! I just double checked the ingredients on it and it actually contains niacinamide. Sorry! I love niacinamide so I'm usually very aware of which of my products have it, but I forgot about this one.

I haven't used CosRX "Oil Free" Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap personally (YET), but it's widely acclaimed as a great lightweight moisturizer by people with wildly different skin types. And I double checked the ingredients--no niacinamide or snail.

Earth's Recipe Energy Boosting Toner has also gotten a lot of good press for its hydrating capabilities. Ingredients do not include snail or niacinamide, and while it's billed as a toner, it's really thick. It's been characterized as giving a sheet mask-y glow without the sheet mask, again by people with wildly different skin types.

u/Ketchupbunny · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

i like the secret key fte, which i buy from amazon. honestly i do not know if it does anything special! i have redness just after i wash off my tret in the morning; not sure if the fte calms it, or something else in my routine, or if it is merely time. i put the fte before my toner. the frosted bottle is pretty though; in my opinion some aspects of skincare don't need an assured purpose beyond getting pleasure from the ritual. i like opening this bottle and splashing my face with the liquid that may or may not be doing anything! that is enough for me with this product.

personally, i prefer honey products when my skin is red (which generally happens if i foolishly over exfoliate or don't take proper precautions against getting windburn). the scinic honey is a staple for me, i think it deserves the hype it gets here, as well as a rotating cast of honey masks. i particularly like esfolio's honey mask because it smells wonderful.

u/AsianMustache · 138 pointsr/AsianBeauty

you'd be better off purchasing from amazon

The costco one has vague descriptions in terms of gram amounts (what is .45 g?).

Assuming its 45g per 2 containers for 29.99 (Its 30 bucks wake up sheeple!), the amazon version sells 2 packs of 75g ones for 27.50$ with free shipping for purchases over 25$

Be wary though, amazon's price changing algorithm is shady sometimes.

Here is a screenshot at this current time of 11:18 am Seoul

Looking at the big picture though, is price the most important decision making factor here?

Amazon is cheap, fast and efficient but they work their employees to the bone and are aggressive as hell business wise.

Costco on the other hand last time I checked REALLY takes care of their employees with above above average wages, good company culture and a customer centric paradigm. Not to mention the costco hotdogs and soda are still the same price of 1.50$ for over 27 years.

If there is any vote that counts in this day and age its the vote of the almighty dollar. So if you espouse the values costco practices over the corporate behemoth that is amazon the choice is ultimately yours to be the change you want to see.

Its just a few dollars after all

u/bodybyxbox · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I have mad allergies right now, and love scheming masks. Rose are my fav. Lovely light smell, very moisturizing, and they have that coveted thin as silk style. The skin clarifying astringent masks are thicker. They have a clean, barely there smell, and definitely feel stringent-y. The double-lift masks have an amazing design and I love that something targets the neck. I recommend the gift pack from amazon.

u/Breyber12 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

About the Cosrx toner, it works great as a prep for chemical exfoliation and does have some low concentrations of both AHA and BHA. If you like the idea of using a low concentration more frequently this can be used up to twice a day and it works best when sprayed onto a cotton square. It can also be used as a prep for your usual strength AHA/BHA which you would use as your skin normally tolerates. Gothamista talks about this product in a fair amount of detail in one of her videos, I’ll see if I can find it and link it for you. You do have to be careful with where you purchase this as other ABers have had issues with counterfeit products. Cosrx’s Instagram named Mr.RX as a trusted seller if you are looking to use Amazon. I also understand that most K beauty routines would place chemical exfoliation right after cleansing in the evening (or after a pH adjusted toner after cleansing). If you check out the “About this Item” description, Cosrx has a little routine guide.

As for a lip mask, Nooni Apple Butter Lip Mask is absolutely heavenly, but a bit pricey. I was able to get it at Ulta for ~$19, but there is a lot of product and a little goes a long way.

Edit: found the video! Her description starts at 4:55 and goes till about 5:55. The whole video is worth watching if you’re interested in good products for oily/acne prone skin though.

I stumbled upon this subreddit, and am so excited to discover Asian beauty. I live outside the U.S. and had someone coming to visit, so everything I purchased was from Amazon Prime so that I could get it in time. Also, being such a newbie here, shopping on other sites is a bit intimidating for me. I thought this would be helpful to others that are just starting out with Asian beauty.

Is it safe to buy from Amazon sellers so long as they have good product ratings and feedback? I want to buy Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV, Baby Pink Mineral BB Cream, Cosrx Good Morning Gel Cleanser, and Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher. Help much appreciated!

u/krasotka1 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Hey everyone!

I just bought a Hada Labo Hyaluronic lotion to incrorporate it into my skin care. My skin is kinda sensitive normal(not too oily and not too dry). I don't have much acne. My main purpose is to have healthy skin and slow aging process :) What I use now is:

Morning:

- Cleanse with water

- Apply some Aloe vera gel

- Sunscreen (reaply throughout the day if needed)

Night:

- Double cleanse ( The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil + Foam Set by The Face )

- One day I do retinol serum (link), another day I do AHA tonic. I am afraid of using them together

- Wait for 20-40 mins

- Apply Crazy Skin Korea/Trouble Care Sleeping Cream (link)

I feel like I need more moisture (especially in the morning) so I want to integrate it into my routine. Can you reccomend where should I squeeze it?

Thanks! :D

u/rougris · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Not AB sunscreen, but I'm currently trying Sunsense Ultra SPF50+ as a body sunscreen. My nose doesn't detect any typical sunscreen smell, though it does have a very slight chemical smell, but none too distracting. It comes in 50ml, 125ml, 200g and 500ml bottles. It has a light consistency (compared to most non AB sunscreen I've tried) and is not too greasy once applied. I took a leap of faith and purchased the 500ml bottle haha. So far so good. The pump bottle is handy.

P.S. My current face sunscreen is Kose SUNCUT UV Protect Gel SPF50+ PA++++. This is my second AB sunscreen, which I like more than my first, Etude House Sunprise Mild Watery Light (SPF50+/PA+++). The EH Sunprise has a rather distracting smell for me. Will try Skin Aqua Sarafit Essence UV (SPF50+ PA++++) and Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel (SPF50 + PA ++++) next.

Hey! I was actually using the 3-step cleansing system when I discovered this subreddit in July.

I was dealing with tons of breakouts. Upon educating myself on here I stopped using the toner (very, very harsh and astringent) and added this oil cleanser to my routine: https://www.amazon.com/Facial-Cleanser-Natural-Cleansing-Moisturizer/dp/B00809ERAM/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1509735613&sr=8-3&keywords=the+face+shop+rice+water+cleansing+oil&dpID=410zyPKCC3L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

This probably won't really answer your question, but I added in a daily sunscreen at the same time I added in the cleansing oil. I think the clinique face soap would have been fine at removing the sunscreen, but I know for a fact it was all gone after adding in the oil cleanser.

I also added in a lotion (this one: https://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Hadalabo-Gokujun-Hyaluronic/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1509735804&sr=1-1&keywords=hada+labo+gokujyun+hyaluronic+acid+lotion ) in the place where I was using the clinique toner.

I think making these changes def. helped my skin and I saw improvement.

Don't think I really answered your question....but I kept using the step 3 clinique lotion for a while too, after beginning my AB journey until I spent a few weeks with each new product. Good luck with everything! Let me know what works!! :)

Since you are a fan is Cosrx, have you looked into [Cosrx] Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion . I don't have the same skin type and it wasn't enough for me, but friends with oily skin have reported success. Light texture would be great for daily use but not sure how it would hold up with the tret, etc.

My favorite sunscreen is CAN make Mermaid Skin Gel UV. I’ve repurchased it over and over. There isn’t any white cast (for me), it doesn’t have a noticeable fragrance (although I’ve heard some people say it smells like coconuts I’ve honestly never even noticed a smell), doesn’t contain alcohol, doesn’t make me super oily, and doesn’t pill over my current routine. I love it.

u/jack_hammarred · 6 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Most sunscreen's I've tried both dry my skin and break me out, but I adore the Can Make Mermaid Skin UV Gel with all my heart. It feels more like a moisturizer than a sunscreen, due to the epic ingredients.

u/Kellors · 22 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Not who you asked, but I have pretty dry skin and prefer the Canmake Mermaid UV Gel. It has the best finish of any sunscreen that I have tried and also plays well with my makeup. I've tried a few other sunscreens and they haven't compared.

You can find it in the baby section at most pharmacies, though I personally just order it off amazon. It’s marketed as nipple cream (not sexy but it works like a charm).

I also use it on my lips and it’s wonderful! I layer it over Aquaphor or use it by itself under lipstick.

I ALSO use it on dry spots when needed! Lanolin is my favorite multi purpose product. As with anything, do patch test it since some people do have a Lanolin allergy.

Hi, I'm new to all of this. I'm going to purchase these items - probably tomorrow. I'm aware that I have to start with baby steps. I've read that I should start using only the moisturizer then slowly add the others so I see which product responds well with my skin and to make sure to patch test.

I'm just not sure how to put these in a AM and PM format, mind helping me out so when it's time to use all of this in a routine, I'm more confident in what I'm doing, please?

I would like to add Amazon seller SamuraiJapan to the list of recommended sellers. Items ship for free from Japan, and they carry Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence and Hada Labo UV Creamy Gel, the awesomeness of which is explained here, and are two of my personal favorites. Items ship wrapped in bubble wrap in an envelope and arrive in about two weeks (US). I've ordered from them four times in the past year, and each transaction has been smooth.

This stuff is the shit. It doesn't smell and isn't sticky like regular lanolin, and it's definitely safe for lips. I use this when nothing else is working or to help heal up the end of a cold sore. It's the best.

u/ichooseyoueevee · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

alot of cleansers are often pH 9-10! So 6 isnt that bad - if you want, you can purchase those 4-mark pH testing strips on amazon, they're pretty cheap! I bought this pack of 100 for like $10. That would last awhile and then you can always be sure to get the approximate pH with all your future cleansers :)

I vote for Takashima Cupertino Store despite the parking situation.

I'd like to see if it's possible to meet at a restaurant or boba place first and then mosey over to Takashima. This gives us time to meet each other and also gives people time to find parking/beat traffic/find us in this confusing plaza etc..Thursday or Friday evenings, Saturday all day and Sunday after 1:00 PM on any date works well for me.

I'd like to product swap (seeking a single Freeset Donkey Milk mask) and pick other AB-er's brains for tips n' tricks on my skin type (dehydrated).

Also - looking to become a MIZON snail convert but haven't been able to patch test any samples on my skin yet!

May possibly bring another friend who is a non-redditor who is completely new to AB skincare.

p.s. This store also sells DIY SELENA multilayer cotton puffs 80 ct useful for Hado Labo DIY face masks with Gokujun lotion for $3.50!

Thank you! If I add on another toner/essence/emulsion, does that come after my first toner after washing my face? I.e. foam cleanse, toner, the green tea/tea tree thing, then moisturizer? I found these two links but the Green Tea one is in the USA Amazon page, and the Tea Tree is this other brand (not It's Skin). I haven't explored much of Vancouver yet but will be going back this winter break so maybe I can spend a day going around different stores, as for Calgary we literally have two The Face Shops in town like 30 minutes away from each other, and then maybe something in Chinatown haha.

https://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Hot-Spring-Bath-Powders/dp/B000FQMMXW/ref=pd_sim_194_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9S16ZEQ2ZK5SGP4GERBC
I have a box of those and the Tabino Yado ones at home, I like both brands. I just clicked the first ones I saw come up with a Prime tag, the box I have says they're made in China and the Tabino Yado ones are Japanese, just in case that matters.

Maybe some of those viscose towels? I'm giving a few out to my sisters in their Christmas packages this year. I have these ones:

You can find the Aritaum lip mask on Amazon.

If you want something cheaper, I really like pure lanolin - it's really sticky and thick, but it works wonders. Something like this is super affordable.

u/IncognitoDoorknob · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I really like The Face Shop Rice Water Bright cleansing oil. It's light, effective, pleasant smell, decently priced, and works really well.

u/olliepop88 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty
  1. I had issues with the DHC oil as well. In fact, I had trouble with Shu Uemura's cleansing oils so much that I was breaking out in closed comedones all over my forehead. You should definitely ditch them and switch over to a lighter formulation. I suggest The Face Shop's Rice Water Bright Cleansing Light Oil. Additionally, if you're in the mood to try something new, I highly recommend Banila's cleansing balms. They even have a special formulation for sensitive skin called Clean It Zero Purity.

  2. Seeing that your main concern is hyper pigmentation, I would up usage of the AHA serum. If you find that you're handling it well, up it to once every other night. Of course, seeing that you have sensitive skin, I would approach cautiously.

At what step do I use this lotion in my skincare routine?

I usually follow a pretty lengthy process including:
Oil cleanser
Second cleanser
Toner/toner lotion
Actives
Face oil
Moisturizer
Heavier sleeping mask/pack if skin is feeling super dry

u/Susannah_banana · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

It does have a strong smell, but it doesn't last long, or maybe I get inured to it quickly. To me, it smells like dead lightning bugs (weird, I know). But it works wonders! I get mine from Garden of Wisdom, and I also use watermelon seed oil because my skin loves it...it heals everything so quickly!

EDIT: I also use Himalaya Neem face wash

I've used this for about a year and a half and they! seem to be doing well. One caveat is that I can't put my cleansing oil in them because they'll leak through the seams. Other than that though I've used both creams and liquids in them and they work great! No spills and easy to travel with!!

I absolutely love these little wash cloths. You take a hot bath or shower then firmly wipe down your arms and legs in strokes. The dead skin and buildup comes right off, kinda gross but really satisfying in a weird way. It leaves your skin super smooth and soft days after.

u/sullaria · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I have not tried a ton of them, tbh. I bought this set as a way to try out a bunch of different kinds. The hyaluronic acid and other hydrating ones are nice. I haven't noticed much of a scent on really any of them. The essence on the masks lasts a really long time (~1 hr).

There are some astringent ones in the box I bought, but I'm saving them for summer.

I have not tried the silk ones but am dying to! Fiddy Snails has a post where she recommended a few different kinds. The Hot Springs Water silk masks are definitely next on my list to try!

u/MaddieEms · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Hmmmm that's so interesting!! I looked again and the Amazon listing I bought it from (from a Japanese seller) says PA+++, but I checked my bottle and it actually says PA++++. I wonder if it's been reformulated? Ratzilla's website would say so, but I don't have time today to check.

Here's the listing: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007408PIS/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1535523722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00CEGVWPU&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0XQ39QJNJWB4G0DHGJ7V

I live in California. I found two sunscreens and already bought them, just waiting for them to arrive. One is this and the other is this. The first one is water resistant, and the other isn't. Once I start to get sweaty from the heat in a few months I'll start using the water resistant. Also I'll most likely buy all my stuff off amazon.

I'm a male and don't wear makeup, so how well something removes makeup isn't much of a concern to me. I have oily skin, acne prone and very sensitive. I chose the products I chose because I read others review it with the same problems of mine and they said it was nice. When I asked what I should introduce, I meant which one is the most important. Like, should I buy the oil cleanser first since to use and wait three weeks before ordering the next? Or should I order the second cleanser/moisturizer first?

u/essenceofLLAMA · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I can't seem to pick between these two:

Hada Labo Rohto Goku-jun Hyaluronic Milky Lotion

and

CosRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion

Any suggestions~? Thank you!

u/seraephi · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

The amount of markup seems to vary quite a bit. For Japanese products it's reasonable; Selena cotton puffs were about $4, Kiku was $14, and the large Dr.Ci:Labo Bihaku was $110. Korean products, on the other hand, were easily double the Amazon prices.

u/Lpariah · 4 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Now that's one thing from TFS I won't change reguardless of what people have said about TFS. This set I havent changed in over a year and probably wont. I love how light it is and the subtle sent is amazing. My daughter uses the oil on her acne prone skin with no issues as well. She uses Benton Honest cleansing foam though. Ive been shopping for a new sunscreen though so I dont mind changing that to cosrx.

Edit- words

u/VintageJeansx3 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

You're such a good sibling! I use Scinic Honey All In One Ampoule and it's great for moisturizing and tackling pimples because of the Niacinamide in it. It is slightly sticky, but after about 20 minutes, it should absorb into her skin. I also use Benton's Snail Bee Steam Cream as a layer on top of the Ampoule. Link

HL's cleansing foam didn't do me any good either. But I switched to Su:m32's Cleansing Rose Stick and it's been amazing since. (Please note: if you are allergic to coconut, don't use this.)

My BF is on the CosRX good morning cleansing foam and hasn't had any issues yet and he has more acne-prone skin than I do.

I don't wear foundation or heavy makeup usually, so I don't normally have to worry about getting my skin rid of all of that stuff. when I do wear it, I have a 50/50 chance of either just using my cleansing stick or using my oil cleanser which is The Face Shop's Rice Water Bright cleansing oil.

I haven't had any issues with the oil causing any clogging or acne issues. I'd look up reviews for both and see what you think. The cleansing stick is more expensive than the oil, but you use /so little of it/ for each cleanse that honestly it will last you a long long time even with daily use. I normally use one pump of the oil (1/2 pump at a time) but it does naturally seem to go faster than the rest of my stuff.

I think that no matter what products you get though, the initial cost for them is going to be over 20$ just because of shipping and all that.

oh man you asked for it. This is what I do if i have a day off and nowhere to be:

I like to put on a mud mask (I like the volcanic clay one from Innisfree, or the pore refining charcoal one from clinique) wait for that to dry, and then hop in the shower to rinse it off, and wash my hair. Then I fill up the tub and put in some nice bath salts or a lush bath bomb, apply a hair mask and a sheet mask. After extensive soaking, I scrub off with one of those korean towels (gets all the dead skin off your body. it's pretty gross but very worth it.)

After that, hop back in the shower, rinse off completely, shave, and then moisturize. Takes a long time but man do I always feel good afterwards.

u/Puppywanton · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I don't see why not, moisturizing in general helps with eczema. I would only use it if your skin is intact though. If you have an active rash that's weeping I would avoid it due to the high amount of lactic acid in this. If you have dry skin and want to prevent eczema or if your skin has lichenified from an old rash then yes, this will definitely help. A better lotion that you can use anytime, anywhere would be this

Foaming cleansers are second cleansers. You can use it in the shower if you want when you wash your face probably won't make much difference plus it is less messy and saves water.

You want to exfoliate first! Get an Italy Cloth, Scrub Gloves, or if you want to go non-AB, one of these. The next time you shower, scrub yourself down & any lotion you end up choosing will absorb much better.

Ahh, I almost bought this just this morning. I'm glad I passed on it. That's disappointing! Maybe because it's the light version? I have a cleansing oil from the same brand that worked fine for my waterproof eye makeup. Did you let it sit for a few seconds before emulsifying it with adding a bit of water, then rubbing a bit more? Lathering it up by adding a bit of water helps.

If you read the review on amazon, they mostly say to get something else as eye makeup remover just cause it's so liquidy and might get in your eyes easily.

Also, I was kinda disappointed this wasn't about your dad. :P

It's not Amazon that can't ship it to you, it's the seller. I'm also a Canadian who shops on Amazon.com so I also get that a lot. Try your luck and buy it from another seller. Look at "More options available" and click on "other sellers". BHA and AHA on Amazon.com.

However, considering the current position of the CAD, ordering from Amazon.ca is actually a better deal right now. Jolse also sells on Amazon.ca! AHA. Sadly, Jolse doesn't currently have the BHA Blachead but they do have the BHA A-sol if that's what you're looking for. Here's the BHA from another seller.

I like Shiseido Senka Mineral Water UV Gel and Hada Labo UV Creamy Gel. Both have no white cast and don't break me out if removed properly through double cleansing. As for pilling, that usually happens when you layer two or more products with incompatible bases (e.g. silicone- and water-based products).

u/I_Dont_Own_A_Cat · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

This is not AB specific, but since the weather has become dry and my skin followed suit, I have started steaming my face in the morning before I use my products. That alone has made a huge, immediate difference, especially for moisturizer absorption.

I shower at night, which is why I do this in the AM. If you already take a hot shower in the morning, try adding the steam at night.

I also added this active into my routine because I get nasty whiteheads when my skin is dry. It brightened my skin and cleared up a lot of the small whiteheads on first use, but I haven't use it long enough to speak to the overall quality and effect yet.

These are Italy towels. They're more like rough little mitts than actual towels. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UU-xzbQ6F60ZE
They're meant to be used on skin that's been soaked in a bath or long hot shower. They're very good at getting rid of dry skin, but they're pretty intense stance you're supposedly to really go at your skin with them. You can see your dead skin actually roll up and fall off. Totally disgusting but also very satisfying. They're washable and reusable so they last forever. I bought the pack of 8 in Feb and have only had to replace on so far.

u/snowco · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

not AB products, but I exfoliate with a damp towel at night, and then use unscented lanolin on my lips while I sleep. It's annoyingly sticky but I sleep on my back, so it's fine. The product I use is Lansinoh Breastfeeding Salve. I've tried other lanolin products and they smell like...well, sheep.

I thought I would like double cleaning but it made my skin dry, tight, and freak out. http://www.amazon.com/The-Face-Shop-Bright-Cleansing/dp/B00809ERAM I used the face shop's rice water line. It was primarily the cream cleanser component that my skin didn't like- it reminds me of clearasil. I know you're supposed to moisturize the fuck out of your skin afterwards but I think it cleans "too much." I use Philosphy Microdelivery wash from sephora and it cleans well enough that it's not all tight and dry but not pizza face at the same time.

I was underwhelmed with laneige's water bank mask too. It's kind of like a glorified sheet mask without the sheet portion. I'd rather slather my face in Cerave which is what I do when my skin gets dry.

And I don't care for Mizon's snail recovery gel. It's like an inferior sheetless mask.

(I like sheet masks obvz. )

And things I expected to hate but ended up liking: Dr. Jart's BB. I don't like traditional Korean BB's because they're too pinkish for my skin tone (I'm a beigey yellow.) It's easy to put on too much and look awful. This one was not awful though. I like Dr. Jart's ceramine lotion too. skin looks great after I use it.

Asian cotton pads, such as SELENA or Muji ones are quite different and don't tend to fuzz apart. I have cheapo ones from Daiso that aren't layered like these, and even they hold up much better than their Western counterpart. Have you tried?

There are also water activated cleansing cloths but those have their own stuff already so I'm not sure you'd want to use micellar water with those.

u/Iaera · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

So I saw the Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash mention on the under-the-radar product thread and was wondering if anyone with dry skin uses it? A bunch of random online reviews said it was better for oily skin or that it dried them out.

I'm debating on getting it since Amazon has some sort of 20% off coupon going on right now here, but I consider myself more on the dry side than oily and don't wanna risk making my face a peeling mess again.

Welcome! What are your skin concerns? You said your skin is "semi-oily", does that mean oily T-zone? Do you have any scarring or anything?

To answer your question about panda eyes, I have really bad dark circles and there is some cream I use from Nature Republic. It's helped to brighten up that area a bit.

Also, I noticed that you said you wear suncreen, but that you are "quite tan". I think you should up your sunscreen game. I'm sure you know all about the risks of skin cancer, but (as other AB members can attest to), sun damage can greatly speed up the aging process for your skin. Do yourself a favor and wear a sunscreen with a very high SPF. You can find some great recommendations on this sub; I myself use this one.

I'm thinking about adding a physical exfoliation tool since I can't keep myself from picking at dead skin on my face. It looks like some suggestions for physical exfoliators are "Paris Cloths" (apparently used with really hot water) and "Salux Cloths". Both of these look to be really rough on facial skin and are meant for use on the body though. Any thoughts or experiences? What other products should I look into?

YMMV, but I've ordered the Canmake from this seller and this seller on Amazon with no problems.

I use these Korean bath towels, since I find them really efficient for exfoliating. This would be after I have shampoo'd and rinsed my hair, and leave in my conditioner. By then, the steam should have loosened the dead skin off so that a few swipes remove my dead skin. Otherwise, I use standard Western body wash.
