I totally understand!! Honestly, I went through the same feelings while learning this stuff too. There came a point where I sat myself down and was like look - if I continue to believe what I’ve always believed, the world stays small and known. Imagine telling someone back in the 15th century that cars existed - no need to walk or ride a horse to travel. They wouldn’t have believed you, but it’s true - cars exist. I took the same approach to learning - a conscious decision to accept that there’s so much I took for fact, that actually isn’t known, just assumed.

For example, Darwin’s theory - he said himself, when presenting the theory, that he wasn’t actually sure that survival of the fittest was natural law, but theorized that it was possible and likely. Possible and likely, but NOT fact.

(I don’t remember where I originally read this, but here’s a great read from Quora: https://www.quora.com/Was-Charles-Darwin-100-sure-that-his-evolution-theory-is-right-and-without-single-doubt)

Scientists have been studying nature, and guess what - survival of the fittest is not The Law of Nature. There are endless examples of collaboration, support, exchange in nature - it’s about giving and taking, for the benefit of all.

As a society, however, we took Darwin’s theory and ran with it, and it’s literally baked into the fiber of our fabric. Capitalism, hierarchical structure, large corporations consuming small businesses, etc etc etc.

What would society look like if we built our structures on the basis of sharing, caring for each other, pursuing the highest good of all?

All of that to say, when you allow yourself to be open, to think, to consider different approaches, you achieve different outcomes.

When you close yourself off, assume you have “the answer”, act reactively, unconsciously, then you achieve the same outcome.

I just want different! For me, life is about growing, stretching, learning, getting my mind blown over and over and over, adjusting and adapting, constantly. And ITS FUN!

Regarding the whole life after death/soul separate from body concept, I was thrown into it via Dolores Cannon. If you like reading books, buy and read Between Death and Life: Conversations with a Spirit (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1940265002). If you prefer watching videos:
https://youtu.be/FhjoEnG4gww

She’s incredibly close to “the answer”, but I think since she was practicing, some things have changed - like the emotional evolution of the greys, nothing is static.

Another great book: The Gaia Project by Hwee-Yong Jiang (https://m.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-gaia-project-hwee-yong-jang/1123431981)

And another: The Complete Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0399153292)

In any case, all of us reach a point where we can’t be told “the answer”. Someone can tell us something close to it, but ultimately, you can only truly truly believe what you’ve searched and found to be true. That’s literally what belief is, and in its truest form, it cannot be forced. I think that’s the beautiful thing about exploration, and the great news is, if you consciously stay open to new information and actually seek, you absolutely will find and find and find until you choose to close down or stop.

It's more or less a waiting game but does require upwards of 45-60 mins to reach the vibrations stage (your experiences may vary). Depending on how you meditate could also affect this. Since you were meditating in bed, here are some other tips to help you move past just simply meditating and progress on.

  • Make yourself slightly uncomfortable, be it laying in a different position, or even placing a board under your heels. You'll need to be in a slight discomfort to help keep your mind active enough not to fall asleep and to continue past just meditating.

  • Counting out breaths, mantras, or even focusing on belly breathing or your breath, in general, are great ways to keep your brain active enough.

  • Wear loose clothing, undo belts, and don't completely cover your self with heavy blankets. Light blankets are okay but you don't want to trick your brain into thinking its bed time.

  • Propping yourself up to a 45° in bed is a good idea as well.

  • Also tensing muscle groups then releasing, over the entire body, before meditation, trance work, or an AP session are great to do as well.

What you should notice as you progress along to an astral projection:

  1. Eventual loss of sensation to hands, feet, and limbs. The chest and head are usually last to "go." This tends to feel like a metal blanket being pulled over you.

  2. Vibrations or Sleep Paralysis come next. Generally, limbs are unable to be moved and it might be difficult to breathe deeply (don't panic, you'll be fine, shallow breathing is expected). Vibrations feel like low (or sometimes high) intensity energy surging through parts or all of your body†.

  3. From this point, wait for vibrations to pass, you may then either experience 3D darkness (where all senses shut off) or you could move into astral sight††.

  4. In either event, once you've reached step three, exit techniques can now be applied to "leave" your body. There are many different techniques but the best ones deal with motion, climbing ropes or ladders, thinking of roller coasters, etc.

These are the basic steps of reaching an astral projection. I haven't completed one yet but I've been studying, practicing, and meditating on a regular basis. I've linked a book below that has been a huge help in understanding what to expect and how to go about completing an AP, I highly recommend it. This link here will also link to other comments I've made on other posts with other tips, suggestions, and even YouTubers that can help explain. Good Luck!

† - Author Robert Bruce describes the vibrations stage as your energy double being created from the physical double as it takes a lot of energy to get this energy double ready to astral project.

†† - Recently, I tried some light trance work from Robert Bruce's book, "Astral Dynamics." I set myself up in a seated position, as suggested, and focused on belly breathing, with a 22 min timer (as I had other things to do). I went through the motions taught in the book and began noticing sensations of my previous astral sessions, heavy warm body, vibrations forming in my arms & legs. Eventually, the darkness behind my eyes started to go away and was replaced by bright white. This was odd to me because I had made the room relatively dark for 11:30 am. I could have sworn I started to see objects out in the distance in this new white light behind my closed eye lids. Eventually, my meditation music kicked off due to WiFi issues and I had thought my alarm went off. I then ended my session and was surprised to see my room wasn't any brighter. From the looks of it, I may have been on the verge of astral sight and possibly an exit.

If you start with fear you will always have fear. So work on reducing your fear and increasing your confidence. You can view it as an entertaining distraction. Or you can view it as a means of exploring consciousness and spirituality. Ultimately there is nothing that can harm you. You can get the crap scared out of you. But if you don't overcome the fear you'll never have the good experiences.

Ignore everything you ever "learned" from horror movies. This is not Nightmare on Elm Street or Dreamscape. I don't remember hearing anyone mention fear when attempting from within a lucid dream. And the only "freaky" part is when you're in transition when you are attempting the direct method (from laying down and going directly into AP by passing through the vibrational state. It's easy to get a feeling of fear just before you leave the body with this method, kind of like the fear of jumping off a high point, aka vertigo. But that's the main fear in the learning process. And it's much easier to wake up than it is to stay in the experience so don't even worry about it.

If you haven't already read it start here: Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. You are already able to lucid dream but this will increase your knowledge of how it works so you can do it more purposefully and apply it to AP.

Also, keep a dream journal. This helps with increasing your recall. Just put the date and write down what your dream was. Start writing as soon as you wake up. It only takes two minutes. But it's good to keep your journal or notebook and pen by your bed. You can also use it to write down what techniques you are trying and your interpretation of the steps in the technique. Always try to reduce each technique to its core steps. Easier to remember that way. And when you read a book and want to remember something it recommended, write that in your journal too.

If you've never journaled before keep it as simple as possible. Bullet Journal, like bullet points, short and to the point, is a great way to get started if you have always wanted a good system for keeping a calendar and to-do list and it's also great for a dream, LP, AP log. You can use your daily notes to help keep track of your progress. Don't worry if you forget about it or don't feel like writing. It's always there for you when you need it. Good luck! If you're less self disciplined, as I have found out I am, Robert Munroe's explorer series CD's are the ticket in my opinion. Just check out the discovery album for astral projection if that is your goal. The CD's play a hemi-sync track that is similar to bi-neural beats but the tones cause your brains hemispheres to sync up to negotiate the tones. It's very interesting and sounds different to me than a bi-neural track. Also you have to use headphones to get the effect. Tracks are about 30 minutes and Dr. Munroe talks over the track to prepare you for the steps and lessons in the track and chimes in every once in awhile to keep you focused. The duration of the exercises and the simple execution (just find a quiet spot and lay down with head phones in for 30 minutes) allowed me to actually make gains towards projection. I have not yet projected after two weeks of the explorer series but I have gotten to vibrations which is something I didn't achieve in 4 months trying to meditate on my own. Take that with a grain of salt obviously as it's my own anecdotal experience. I do believe I have a slight fear of projecting and I know that is hampering my progress.

More on the Explorer series and Dr Munroe's work can be found here.

If you have some discipline and patience this is the best way to learn the tools you'll need to be successful. It is very structured and easy to follow and has a lot of helpful tools including a bi-neural beats software that goes along with the program. I have a wife and 3 kids and a hectic life so it was harder for me to follow the structure this program requires.

Good luck with your exploration!

I see. But no worries, information about how to do them are all over the internet nowadays.

There's this three-part video seminars by Michael Raduga "Leave your body in three days":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQjAIlFZWWc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dj9gTiLHf8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BMnGi8yxTQ

He also has free article and e-books that might help you here:

https://obe4u.com/how-to-lucid-dream/

https://obe4u.com/lucid-dreaming-books-free/

And other books that you can try finding online for free or purchasing to support the author:

Astral Dynamics Book by Robert Bruce:

https://www.amazon.com/Astral-Dynamics-Out-Body-Experience-ebook/dp/B008K06AOM

Journeys out of the body by Robert Monroe:

https://www.amazon.com/Journeys-Out-Body-Out-Body-ebook/dp/B00OWWOM2O

And many others, too.

And there's also always the Wiki of this subreddit that contains basic information that will hopefully serve you well, including dispelling misconceptions about AP, Self-defense in the Astral Planes, and various other reddit posts, articles and websites that contain very useful information. We also made sure to organize a table of contents for this as well to help with information overview:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AstralProjection/wiki/index

If you truly want to go back practicing this skill, it seems you will have to go back from square one, but at the very least it seems practicing the basics again will catapult you quickly towards immediately being able to induce conscious OOBE/Astral Projection, like a muscle memory being awakened once more.

It's a whole new world out there, I really highly encourage you to continue; this skill will help you tremendously on your journey towards personal and spiritual development (I gave some ideas on how in this sub's wiki, around the "Benefits of Astral Projection" section).

Best of luck on your journeys.

They're related. Check out the eight jhana states. I recommend this book Beyond Mindfulness in Plain English: An Introductory guide to Deeper States of Meditation.

Astral projection is exploration of different consciousness states. They don't have to be visual, auditory, or tactile experiences. The jhana states are more or less "feelings" but not in the perceiving sense. From personal experiences, you may feel boundless happiness, joy, peace, and love and you don't know why. You feel like you understand stuff more and you don't know why. Previously strong desires disappear and you don't know why. There is an effect without a cause.

If you ever attempt astral projection before, this state is the void or blackness at the start of your very first astral projection. It's right after the vibrational state. For me, it also occur during the transitions between consciousness states. All I know is that something happened but I can't remember it in the sense of conceptualizing it.

Happy to expand here. We typically will use Sigils of Jupiter via (edit: skip this link and go to next one)ceremonial magick (this book used to be available free online via PDF but now it's gone so this is the only link I can find) to get there.

Edit: Here's a free version, but I am not sure it contains all the original sigils, and it appears to be some "2003" interpretation of this book. YMMV.

Double edit: I am searching on G to find a better version of Goetia for those interested. I shared it previously and I guess hugged it to death.

Triple edit: Use the previous PDF link. It's fair enough but is missing some sigils. Save it as these PDFs are often wiped clean from the Web.

Don't worry, I'm fairly new myself. I've just done an insane amount of reading and have had my limited past experiences to draw on.

If your curiosity really piqued about this stuff (like mine has been) here are a few resources (these should all be free sources):

There are loads of great books out there but I think the very best is an old one by Sylvan Muldoon (and Hereward Carrington) called simply "The Projection of the Astral Body".

It is very down to earth and pleasant to read and does not claim to have all the answers. It is good as an instruction manual too.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Projection-Astral-Body-Sylvan-Muldoon/dp/1447402251

Colin Wilson has written in some capacity on the subject, notably in his book called "The Occult" or "Beyond The Occult" which are terrific books.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyond-Occult-Twenty-Research-Paranormal-ebook/dp/B00HETG8TM/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1427125286&sr=1-4&keywords=occult+wilson

u/zeruo · 2 pointsr/AstralProjection

Here's a link to her free books: https://www.outofbodytravel.org/out-of-body-books.html

I can't say I agree with everything she writes, but there's a link to her stuff. I hope that helps.

I think the book I liked best was "We are all shadows", partly because she took like 60 pages from the book Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines and made that more readily available. I was able to learn a lot.

u/Bikeazoid · 1 pointr/AstralProjection

I like this one....

https://www.amazon.com/Journeys-Out-Body-Out-Body/dp/0385008619/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523115319&sr=8-1&keywords=robert+monroe

but it is the fist I read, within 15 pages it tels you now to. Thats all it took for me. The rest is good, but some people here say he talks too much of his own adventures, that may be true, but it's a good way to draw paralalells and know what to expect when you get better.

u/ErisianBuddhist · 2 pointsr/AstralProjection

If you're interested, I recommend picking up a copy of Astral Dynamics. In it the author describes common phenomenon like your closed door being open when you were projecting, which he calls a "reality fluctuation".

I say to read this because it is in depth but it also has the great suggestion of how to objectively verify an experience. It's simple: just take a playing card and place it face up on a surface you can't look at normally such as the top of a book shelf or something similar. I did this (but using two cards as I still that the probability of 1 out of 52 was still too high for verification purposes) and was flabergasted when I flew back into my body, checked the cards and saw that they were the same as the ones I saw while I was projecting.

u/w33t · 2 pointsr/AstralProjection

I suggest reading this book.

https://www.amazon.com/Phase-Shattering-Illusion-Reality/dp/1500578037

I read many books on AP and tried many different techniques. This book described a method dubbed "the indirect method" that worked for me after 2 weeks of attempts.

Basically, trying to AP directly from the waking state is the hardest way to go about doing it and requires the most practice and skill. The indirect method induces AP from either a lucid dream or as soon as you wake up from sleeping.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Yes but, I would really look into the Hemi-sync binaural beats by Robert Monroe. There was a link somewhere on here once. I am not sure if its still up and running but it allowed you to stream it.

If you want the actual file, Torrents are going to be your best shot without paying the $350-732 dollars.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000INP0MW/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc_mma?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Incase youre interested in purchasing out right. Im down for supporting a cause but to charge a min of 350 bucks to try and astral project is a bit much for me. Ill stick to my torrent files and no I dont have the link to where I found mine. Its been over a year since I downloaded them.

u/BrandoTheNinjaMaster · 2 pointsr/AstralProjection

I've read probably around 6 or so books on this.

  • Robert Monroe's trilogy:

  1. Journeys out of the body- Good book, it details his first unintentional experiences with AP and he takes a somewhat scientific approach to it.

  2. Far Journeys- Goes beyond his initial experiences and spends a lot of the book trying to help a consciousness break a reincarnation loop.

  3. Ultimate Journey: Takes his journey into what he calls the null zone and does a lot of introspective stuff. I find a lot of his books start off relatively normal and end up really far out there.

  • Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce- Basically a guide to what to expect when you're projecting. Every detail that you think you wanted to know about and more.

  • Navigating the Out of Body Experience by Graham Nicholls- I really enjoyed this one. Tons of techniques to cater to your personal style as well as a lot of ways he reconciles what he sees with modern theoretical physics.

  • Consciousness Beyond the Body: Evidence and Reflections by Alexander De Foe- Takes a completely scientific look at AP and is written for someone who is more scientifically minded. Also it's free on Amazon
u/amoris313 · 4 pointsr/AstralProjection

This is the best book I've ever seen on the subject. If you persistently do everything he says, you will be successful.

u/Atmic · 1 pointr/AstralProjection

Absolutely. He's my favorite AP researcher/author -- very pragmatic, non dogmatic approach based on empirical evidence. I've even paid to work with him during a weekend seminar.

He has a lot of great work, but the seminal piece in my opinion is Astral Dynamics. That's a link to the 10-year revised/updated version, but the original is just fine if you run across it.

You can get a taste of his style with 'Treatise on Astral Projection', an early online work from 1994.

u/duncanrcarroll · 1 pointr/AstralProjection

I would need to ask my Chinese friends =) But I imagine it mostly comes from the book, since this illustration was (I think) produced for the book when it was published in the modern age (though I believe the original is thought to be from the 1500s.)

u/JuicyPrism · 1 pointr/AstralProjection

It's a good thing that you meditate.

Astral projection is not "real", it's just some kind of dream-like state induced by a species made of dark matter that also gives us dreams.

I was also very sceptical about it bu I spent years studying dreams, hallucinations and astral projection and came to this conclusion

You can read more about it in my book "Dark Matter Orbs Are The Origin of Dreams", search it on amazon

Or my website Dark Matter Species

u/IS-BE · 1 pointr/AstralProjection

I just got it today!

What week are you on? :)

This is the book for anyone curious!

I really recommend this book written by Nanci Trivellato.

https://www.amazon.com/Vibrational-State-Energy-Resonance-consciousness/dp/1544944039

It explains a technique in detail and dissects and analyzes the technique and the vibrational state itself and explains what actually will happen at certain stages of vibrational state.
