I feed mine out of treat/kibble dispensing things instead of a standard bowl. Ive got several different types but This is the favorite of my mini (Ada) and This is the favorite of my standard(Reggie).
This toy is a big favorite for Reggie. He likes to play with the cube as a whole, or spend a while extracting one the balls then strut around squeaking it proudly. He also enjoys any of the "hide a squirell" type toys. He just seems to like getting stuff out of other stuff. He will also play fetch for HOURS, so he's got an automatic ball launcher, but I don't leave that one out ALL the time, or he'd probably fetch himself to exhaustion.
Ada on the other hand, lives to destroy. She loves This guy, and will happily tear him apart as many times as youre willing to put him back together for her. Another thing that ive found to keep her busy is to stuff other smaller soft toys inside one of these so she can pull em out. Small rope chews, lil tiny plush toys leftover from the puppy days, knots of fleece, whatever.
To get em out of my hair for a little if im trying to acomplish something indoors that is being impeded by their "help".. i'll just scatter a handfull of treats across the lawn, and they'll stay out there snufflin around hunting down treats for a while. Same comcept as a snuffle mat, but large enough to actually keep them busy more than a couple minutes.
The absolute BEST toy I ever got for Reggie, however, was Ada. They are best pals and keep eachother pretty entertained.
Hey there! Congrats on the new pup. We just got ours, and we're using the book How to Train the Best Dog Ever. Training is going well so far on day 5 (she's 8 weeks old). She is really smart and a bit strong-willed, but man: she catches on fast.
Last night she slept through the night for the first time (yay!).
Do: prep your house by hiding shoes and anything below knee level. She is mouthing (light chewing) on about 75% of what she can reach. My girlfriend or I are with her at all times right now, so we quickly give her a toy when we see her biting anything. She REALLY likes running right by our feet, and it looks a lot like she's trying to herd us all ready.
She really likes the crate, as well. We got a blanket from the breeder that was in the enclosure with her and her siblings, and that's in her crate, which we feed her treats and snacks in and around. I think when they first come from the breeder, they're already used to some sort of barrier, so I think it's probably a great time to reinforce that the crate is a good place where fun things happen. We don't give her treats when she comes out--she shouldn't expect rewards when crate time ends, or she'll make a positive association with leaving the crate (learned that from the book!).
She really is pretty wonderful, and I wish you luck with your pup! I just posted a pic of Hazel aka Hazelnut aka Purple Haze in the main subreddit.
Hope this helps!
Edit: a word
Yes this. We have one of these and also have an Ottosson-style puzzle toy that keeps our good boy busy for some time.

I just found a cheap one at my grocery store’s pet supplies section. It’s a pretty basic one, kinda like this:

except a smaller size for my mini AD
