I would strongly suggest learning enough German to get basic stuff done. You can find some pretty decent crash courses on spotify if you have this. i would also strongly suggest reading this book as it gives you a pretty good perspective on the city's rich cultural traditions. if you cant speak the language it definitely helps to know and be interested in their culture. they actually really like it when you do.

Some must see things are the kunsthistorisches museum, anything in district 1, mariahilfstrasse and nachtsmarkt. also seek out any museum w gustav klimmt works. the stadtpark is quite a cool place to people watch

if you meet some locals definitely mention you want to check out cafe sperl. its really one of those places they wont serve you unless you are local but if you drop that name to a wiener they will be impressed. its the typical viennese coffee house. also must eats are a schnitzel at figlmuller and a kasekronner from any street vendor. just be warned there is no ice anywhere and cokes/water cost just as much as beer

also the subway system rivals new york city. see if you can get a monthly discount through your university. it takes you everywhere

if you see someone before lunch you greet them with morgen. around lunch is typically mahlzeit and any other time is usually servus.

good luck man. the croatian women around there are the most beautiful in the entire world

I read a good book about this topic with lots of critical views on that time ( "Wir werden ganze Arbeit leisten...")

After his predecessor Dollfuß was assassinated by the Nazis, he tried to continue Dollfuß's policy, but the people were more and more influenced by the Nazis in Germany and the support for the Austro-fascist regime was relatively low anyway.

The most controversial thing about Schuschnigg is probably that in 1938 he let the German Wehrmacht enter the country without any resistance because he "didn't want to spill German blood". He seemed to be less opposed to the idea of the Third Reich than Dollfuß, who was strictly against it.

The book I mentioned above also deals with the question if things were different if Schuschnigg had ordered the Austrian Army to fight against the Nazis, or if Dollfuß was still alive at that time. Or if Schuschnigg even saved many lives by letting them enter without any resistance, because the Nazis would have won anyway with their massive army and the strong support from the Austrian society. On the other hand, by letting the Wehrmacht in without resistance, Austria lost their right to claim it is a "victim" of Nazi Germany. For a long time we were claiming it anyway...

Generally speaking, both Dollfuß and Schuschnigg have a rather negative image in Austria. But in some konservative parts of society (and also student organizations) Dollfuß is still seen positively sometimes, as he died while opposing the Nazis.

Before I finished reading your text I was about to suggest 3 Hui Flat 10 SIM ONLY, as I recently ordered that and an unlocked Huawei stick off amazon for a friend, which, according to some calculations (these were the 2013 prices, 2014 it all dropped a little), is by far the best deal for unlimited (and never throttled) internet. No minimum contract duration, great coverage and very much acceptable speed.

I still mention it, because when I ordered it online, I was able to get the activation charge "refunded", I just checked and that offer is still up, as you can see here. Just make sure you select the Hui SIM to the left.

I'm actually considering getting one for myself, it's cheaper and faster (broadband wise) than the best cable option available at my location (A1), but then again it's less reliable/stable and slower (latency wise).

Edit: I'm guessing it's called Flat because in Austria, when DSL became available, the providers were calling it flatrate internet or the likes, so it's just short for that.

Not at all.
Fascism depends on a system of control and force to work.
What I am thinking of is a system that is wholly dependent upon the authority conferred to an individual (or individuals) running a state by his ancestors of the mind (to take a step away from the race thing that fascism often has), which in turn makes his nobility of mind so strongly known that others follow his orders of their own free will, in the hope of taking part in his greater glory.

For a greater exploration of this, I can recommend a compilation of Evola's articles on the matter: A Traditionalist confronts Fascism.

I would like to add my two cents:

  1. Mix milk and flour first. Then add the eggs. This way the dough does not get lumpy/cloggy.
  2. If you have the time, let the dough sit for a few minutes. (The dough gets smoother this way.)
  3. Get yourself a good pan. Maybe if you are really into it a crepes machine

Don't ask about Sound of Music. It's not actually a thing in austria. If you want to consume some grudgingly accepted piece of austrian kitsch, see if you can get your hands on the movie Sissi instead. At least that one a good chunk of Austrians have actually seen.

If you like that knife, you may also like the Leatherman Crater c33 which is my every-day-carry knife.

Sorry for writing on Englisch. I just moved to Austria and everyone told me about this gis thing. I only want to watch content from PC but I have TV screen. Now I decided to sell that 32 Zoll TV and buy this PC monitor https://www.amazon.de/LG-32MP58HQ-P-AEU-Zoll-Monitor-D-Sub/dp/B01AWG5RDG/ref=sr_1_98?ie=UTF8&qid=1496565710&sr=8-98&keywords=monitor+32+zoll
Is then ok not to pay anything to GIS since I cannot receive TV signal? 0e to GIS?

Well, actually... There are a lot of German to "local dialect" dictionarys. I have seen them in local book shops. Also a short amazon search, gave me a few examples: Duden for Austrian
or for example "Mostviertlerisch"

Given your current opinion, I suggest a reading of this book if you're interested in getting a more realistic picture of Iran: Iran: A People Interrupted.

You can demount the front-wheel and rotate the handlebar and store it in a large bag (or better a designated bike-bag like this). This way it doesn't count as bike but just as "normal" luggage.

I'm leaning towards the first option for the converter. However, it only have one output plug, and not the strip like the other one. Since the converter would presumable convert the 230V outlet in Austria to 110V, does this mean I could use plug regular power strip that I've been using in America to it and power my devices through that strip (provided they don't exceed the maximum power of the converter - 200W). Please let me know if this is safe to use.

Mit gesalzenem Preis halt, aber das sollte ja auch passen, oder?
