There's a lot of useful info about growing in coco at Coco for Cannabis. He's all-in on using timers, automatic irrigation, and drain-to-waste with lots of runoff 100% of the time. It works really well, but it can be a bit tricky to get dialed in, and dealing with runoff can be a pain (especially if you care about disposing of it in an environmentally responsible way). I'd take his "you need to always water to 20% runoff" advice with a grain of salt; just try to water often enough that salts don't build up too much, and maybe err on the side of feeding with lower EC. Last grow I used automatic irrigation, but aimed for just barely having any runoff, and then hand-watered extra to get runoff once a week, when I felt like dealing with it. Definitely note his advice about
preparing and re-using coco, though. One of the best parts about coco is that you should be able to reuse it for a while.

There are other approaches, such as hempy buckets or bottom-feeding that may be simpler, particularly if you're doing a really small personal grow like I am. There's also an approach that combines them, with zero runoff. I haven't tried that one yet, but plant to try my next full size (not 1L SOG) run that way.

For nutrients, I don't know if it's available where you are, but I've been using Dyna-Gro: Foliage-Pro in veg, Bloom in flower. The only other thing I'd add is Pro-Tekt, a silica supplement that also works well as a pH Up. They're pretty inexpensive, simple to use, buffer pH nicely, great all-in-one option. People have also recommended MaxiBloom and Mega-Crop as other simple all-in-one fertilizers (both powdered). I can't personally speak to those, but worth looking into.

I use this EC/ppm meter and these pH test drops. I haven't tried using a pH meter, because the periodic calibration sounds like more trouble than it's worth. The EC meter and the test drops have worked fine for me, and in coco you'll probably only need to check pH of nutrient mixes, then compare EC going in (feed) and coming out (runoff). For that, the drops and that EC meter work great. (That EC meter probably isn't anything special, most cheap ones are probably fine.)

People will probably also recommend Grow Weed Easy, but some of their info about coco (particularly watering recommendations) is pretty dodgy. If you haven't done a full grow before, they have helpful info about harvesting and curing, though.

Strain recommendations will depend on a ton on personal taste, but I particularly like Mephisto's Fugue State. :) Good luck!

If you're open to alibaba, you can get much more for your money by buying a quantum board there. Should be able to get 200w+ of QB from alibaba... look around here because they're posted all over. They keep changing so I don't bookmark them but they are cheaper than HLG and the same technology.

OR you could easily grab two 65w QBs off Amazon for $200 and have 130w QB lighting in there which is a bit less than most people recommend, but so would two viparspectras be.

2x4 should be 400 TRUE WATTS (not advertised numbers) of blurple, or 200-240w of QB by most people's calculations.

Those two viparspectras are likely not even close to 400w of true blurple lighting. They may say "600w" or "1000w" each but that's a lie. Read further down on the item description and it will tell you the true draw, which is likely closer to 100w each than anything else. So your two viparspectras would probably be like HALF the lighting you need, while your two QBs would be more than that, and way better lighting overall with better penetration for faster growth.

My little 65w QB beats the brakes off a 135w blurple I used to use for reference.

I have that $10 phone clip on microscope that you see a lot of on amazon. It actually works well. Shows amber. have a nice phone screen is so much better than a loupe - just need to steady your hand. its not really a digital microscope. Its just a 60x lens that you put in front of your phone cam lens and you use your phone to zoom in. it gives me the best view of trichomes out of all the devices I have, including an old lab grade ziess microscope. and the LED light does not mask out amber.

This is the one that causes me issues. going to send it back. And it has built in zoom and is a true digital scope.

Yeah I just said to another guy about how I’ve been meticulously checking each product I’ve chosen and they all seem to cover the nutrients that base nutes use, except instead of adding some A nute and then some B nute (I found A LOT of a/b ones) I’ll be adding a few extra things per gallon, but I’m convinced now that I do need base nutes too. So I’ve found either advanced nutrients ph perfect sensi A/B or this

I’ve been hearing good things about biobizz I’m even going to use their soil next time instead of canna (too much wood chip in canna soil

It look like you are doing great! Sometimes hiccups in the process will elongate things but you will learn and, in most cases, do so without too much detriment to your final harvest.

A bit of advice, if I may. Assuming you arent already doing so, grab an inexpensive TDS meter and start measuring/recording the EC of your inflow and outflow fertigation solution every time you feed. Once you start keeping track of these metrics you can stop guessing about whether you are under/overfeeding your gals. Unlike pH meters, TDS meters are not comprised of complex or terribly sensitive components, so spending a lot on a high dollar product is not necessary.

There are general guidelines about ppm ranges for both autos and photoperiods based on where they are in their lifecycle. As long as you keep within those ranges, it's rare to run into nutrient issues.

I also like to read GrowDiaries for the strains I'm growing to see how other folks fared with the same genetics and what pitfalls they ran into in their process.

Good luck with your garden, friend!

u/donks_ · 2 pointsr/Autoflowers

Thanks, this is my first ever grow, I love gardening and didn't want to spend a massive amount of money for my first attempt (all the gear, no idea type of thing).

I spent about 2 month researching strains for cooler environments, and these seeds seemed to be just what I was looking for (though we have had amazing weather this year so far so I could have probably got away with something that likes warmer environments).

at the moment they are 9 weeks from seed and have been in big pots since week 2 I think the pots are fairly big I would guess minimum 7 gallon possibly bigger. They were lST'ed from week 3 and have been fed using a biobizz trail pack

So including seeds my total cost has been about £45

ph testing fluid to calibrate ur ph meter, ph meter storage solution, ph up & ph down,(i suggest this kit cause it has both and ph test drops, good to have a low tech 2nd option JIC). A TDS ppm meter would be nice too. Dont forget a notebook to keep track of everything, I regret not recording a lot of stuff, or set up something in google docs on ur fone and take lots of pics. Most importantly, love.

It's pretty awesome. I was on the fence until I actually tried it out. So much easier than a jewelers loupe.

Small tent, good quality, minor light leak on the zipper. No longer available but posted it to give feedback on cheap tents vs the 100$+ ones. Personally I think they all come from the same place.

u/St0f89 · 1 pointr/Autoflowers

What heat output??? they run very, very cool. When I went from HPS to led, I went from active cooling to passive cooling. Seriously, they're the best.

4x4 will be a little more pricey, but not by much.

I'm planning on getting another one or there 1200w model eventually.

u/XdefeatsY · 1 pointr/Autoflowers

Thanks! I am using 2 different LED lights in my tent (Apollo 4'x4'). I started out with just this light for the first 3 weeks because I was short on cash and thought I'd try my luck at skimping on coverage with a cheap, Chinese light from Amazon. By week 3 or so, I had serious doubt about its ability to cover 4'x4' in flower. I bought this light to run in addition.

u/trynagrowyo · 1 pointr/Autoflowers

Nice. You going with Alibaba QBs or HLG? Have you used these for temp/humidity? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N56KEU6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ODHlDbV3P9ZGP
I was thinking about running my inline fan and a small space heater (winter grow in wood stove cabin) off the temperature controller and then humidifier/dehumidifier off the humidity control.

u/editfate · 1 pointr/Autoflowers

Sure thing. Its called Plugable USB 2.0 Microscope for about 35 bucks. If you want to start seeing things at a cellular level I've heard you need about 400x. My 2 year old daughter loves looking at the images the USB scope makes and I won't lie, it's kind of fun to do! I recommend it to anyone who is tired of trying to use a jewlers loup. For about 35 bucks I feel like I'm getting something that isn't pro quality but should last a little while.

u/ValorousVagabond · 2 pointsr/Autoflowers

He's referring to something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Certified-Reflector-V600-Spectrum/dp/B019ETLC7M/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=marshydro+600w&qid=1555082870&s=gateway&sr=8-5

Pay attention to the amount of power it draws from the wall, not the "600w" figure they posted which is going to be quite wrong. I did the math on the ones available on Amazon, and the Viparspectras seem to give you the best W/$ ratio.

u/deangegrowvickers · 1 pointr/Autoflowers

In that size of a tent I would 100% just do one at a time and focus on getting as much as you can from it. I've gotten 200g+ from my mephistos. I would get this light https://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Board-Grow-Bloom-4000K/dp/B076QDKVDZ

u/MellyTheSmelly · 0 pointsr/Autoflowers

The red spectrum LEDs can do a lot of damage to seedlings and young plants in veg if they are too close, I found that out the hard way and now have an LED that allows blue, red or blue and red together for flowering mode. The young plants seemed healthier and seemed to grow much better in both height and density with the blue at 24".

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B019ETLC7M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/19cent · 1 pointr/Autoflowers

This one? My ambient temp is going to be in the low 60s-40s and maybe lower so the light choice shouldn't matter up to a point, I just want to minimize heat just as a preventative measure since my tent is in a smallish closet and I'm only gonna run one plant at a time. I already have a free bulb so I was gonna buy two more but the final price equals the price of the board. However, I will humor you. Given the lack of reviews, can you justify your claim ?
