Easy steps to cosplaying an Azur Lane shikikan (commander):

  1. Buy a navy officer/captain costume off Amazon. Literally any will do. I don't even think there's a cannonic uniform design for Azur Lane. I went with these
  2. Buy a pair of shades so that you can look cool (or at least keep telling yourself that). I went with these cause they were cheap. Bonus points if you get your hands on Deal With It shades.
  3. Print out the Azur Lane EN/JP logos and slap them on the uniform so people will know you're a shikikan and not a teitoku. When I took this photo I only had low quality images to work with but Intern-kun came to the rescue later and gave me high res pics which you can find here. See the full album here to see how I put it all together
  4. Buy a dakimakura of your shipwaifu to drag around with you so that people know that you're a Azur Lane weeb and not just some crazy navy military otaku. Remember to cover up your daki's lewd side with tape so you can at least pretend to have public decency. I personally went with this one cause Unicorn is Not a Good Girl (and cause it was cheap and cause I'm a huge Gundam fan).
  5. ???
  6. Profit! Now you can live out the kansen harem life of your dreams! Or not. Up to you :P

I'll be wearing this cosplay at Sakura-con 2019 (downtown Seattle) this weekend. If anyone else will be going and doing an Azur Lane cosplay, please drop by the video game room (where I'll be volunteer staffing most of the weekend) to say hi :)

Amazon is probably your best bet for both. It'll probably be tough to find headphones similar to her base skin, however the headphones from her retro skin are pretty easy, just need some paint for the details.

As far as the jacket goes I'd suggest looking at men's jackets. I'd go for a trench coat just for the overall length, and especially since her coat is oversized. You'll probably have to modify it no matter what but it's far easier to take away material than add it for getting the right fit and length. You may also check your local second hand stores if you don't want to deal with amazon for the jacket.

Men's trench coats already sorted for blues

Lots of rain coats in there too but has more long coats than just a search for trench coats.

One option for headphones, no logo and are over-ear.

Cheaper and on-ear, no logo

White Square similar color ear pads to base skin

If those aren't to you liking here are links to the searches.

Translated by u/Zorikinu (part of the Skeleton warriors group); special thanks for an advance access (Though by now the chapter may be on Mangadex already)

Many things going on, Refit Ayanami making an appearance (due to the LNY skin), a few small shots of Nimi in that dress, and swimsuit Middy playing cutely with a cat.

Twitter commentary is people talking about other skipping out and their reasons (I think one is U-47)

I think this is the one. I was much more focused on the stuff between the covers than the outside though. I should have remembered the book's name better.

Alright, there's at least a clue there. I wish there was an article on the internet for that cause I would really want to read that and be stunned for my view on Akashi cause holy shit does this turn her into something else otherwise. I've looked briefly at Edsall, is this https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Blood-Deciphering-Mysterious/dp/076033353X book here in the link a good place to find what I seek?

Buy the album! It's not even money to Akashi this time. It came out yesterday. I splurged for the CD + DVD album which was $60 from Amazon.co.jo, but the CD only is like $25. I buy a ton of CDs from Japan and rip them to my server. They still have an obsession with physical media.

Next year we should have this kind of costume so Fubuki won't be alone with her chick costume.

- Shattered Sword is probably the best book on the battle of Midway.

- The Struggle for Guadalcanal: August 1942-February 1943 (History of United States Naval Operations in World War Ii, Volume 5). A great book

- Kaigun: Strategy, Tactics, and Technology in the Imperial Japanese Navy, 1887-1941, very in depth and great incite into the mindset of the Japanese military before and during the war

- The Battle of the River Plate by Dudley Pope

- Run The Gauntlet: The Channel Dash 1942: has a great timeline of the operation

- The Battle of the North Cape: The Death Ride of the Scharnhorst, 1943, I'm currently reading this.

I have more references for you:

Book written by Ray J. Casten - USS Helena: The Machine-Gun Cruiser

US Navy history page - USS Helena (CL-50): Ready, Willing and Valiant

Relevant quote:

" As she had so often before, Helena opened fire–furiously. Japanese witnesses later said she must have been armed with 6-inch machine guns. The fire from her guns lit her up literally and figuratively as a target, and she was hit within minutes by three torpedoes. The damage was calamitous."

Even in the Naval game World of Warships, the USS Helena there got the same nickname - Machinegun Ship - as the number of guns and the rate of fire means the volume of fire she can deliver is very high.
