By Jove, Sisters, I think you have nailed it!

I have been reading up about harvest mite allergy in cats and the time of year plus the symptoms match up entirely. The mites tend to go for areas with a thin coating of fur, such as ears (check), face (check), and paws (check).

The mites can cause severe itching in some animals, which leads them to scratching and biting the itchy bits. The scratching causes sore, crusty skin and bald patches. This is EXACTLY what she has done. The wounds she has caused by scratching are now wide open to infection.

I have just ordered this cream from Amazon and it has many good reviews for situations like mine:

This cream is supposed to soothe the itching so that the sore skin can heal quickly.

In the meantime, I have read that olive oil can help. It softens and moisturises the scabs and suffocates any lingering mites. I think I will use my herbal Hypercurium cream on her sore areas tomorrow just to see.

Sisters! Thank you so much for alerting me to the possible cause being harvest mites. I had not heard of them before. We really do learn something new everyday. I really hope this new knowledge can help her to heal naturally and save us an expensive trip to the vets. You clever thing, you! Seriously, I am so grateful for your advice. I'll update on progress and, hopefully, someone else will learn from it too.
