>Ok so you want almost 40 books at once that about $10 USD each?

Yes? You don't need to buy them all at once, I didn't. I bought a few here and there until I caught up with Dark Horse's release schedule. You can still do the same, if you can find the books still in print.

>Even the 1st isn't reduced

Yes it is.

Volume 1

Volume 2

>there's doesn't seem be collectors box or any to get in bulk for a reduced cost or space

In the past, they have had trouble selling the current edition of Berserk. Why would they invest more money into new boxed sets and omnibuses when they don't think anyone will buy them. If you wanted some box set deal, Right Stuff did that a couple of years ago when the volumes were last reprinted. And is it really that hard to add items to a online shopping cart?

>Despite the movie being supposedly pirated so much, I rented from Amazon. Because I could. Can I can do that with the books... Well...you guess that

Let me be the first to congratulate you on renting a movie instead of pirating it. Anyway about the manga...

Hakusensha has been hesitant, like many Japanese publishers, to release its comics digitally. It was only within the last couple of years that they began digitally selling their manga and releasing a delayed digital version of their magazines. They have been hesitant because they feel that digital copies would be easier to pirate than physical books. It's a old school way of thinking, especially considering the lengths that people go through to pirate manga, but there is some truth to it. You can thank Evil Genius for helping to add to their fears by editing and distributing those digital copies for all to freely download.

Thanks EG. You're service has been invaluable once again, well done.

If you want to support Berserk by purchasing it digitally, you can go here. As far as Dark Horse goes, they have expressed interest in releasing Berserk digitally in the past, but as I said earlier Hakusensha has been slow to embrace digital sales. However if you think you are going to get a better deal because it's digital, you obviously have not purchased manga digitally before. You will probably only save a couple of dollars on each volume.

Well...everyone has recommend pretty much everything I would have.

I could recommend Blue Gender I suppose. It's an old school anime and the dub is actually pretty damn good for its time. Eric Vale voices the main character and he's an excellent voice actor all around. Just know that the animation quality does dip towards the middle of the show, and the second act is kind of weirdly paced. But once you get past that it's an all around decent show worth watching. I personally love it because of the eerie atmosphere and tone. There are some parts where they actually spent time and money on the animation, and it ended up looking pretty fucking awesome. There's one scene where a space shuttle takes off from the surface of Earth via a big ass curved ramp and it looked bad ass. It's a shame the whole show couldn't have looked that good throughout. Would have been a masterpiece.

I doubt you'll find a streaming service that has it since it's an older show, so you'd probably have to buy the DVD set off of Amazon or Rightstuf. It's not really expensive though. I bought it here.

I bought this wallet. Then I took this picture from google and resized it to fit the wallets size, ignoring, of course, the blood drip. I chose that one specifically because it had the thinnest lines.

Then I traced the size of the wallet onto some tracing paper (picked up from Michael's) and then traced the design onto the same paper, using the outline of the wallet to sort of estimate where the symbol would be on the final product.

Once I finished that, I flattened the wallet out and overlaid the tracing paper. Then I used a pencil to go over the line, leaving a slight impression on the leather of the wallet.

Finally, I used a wood burning tool (bought from Michael's for ~$10) and traced over the sketched lines. I had to make the lines a little thicker than originally planned to cover some mistakes I made, but that actually gave it a more robust look.

The final product is a little askew and off-centered and someone with more skill and a steadier hand could probably make a better one, but I'm happy with it. I like the more minimalist design it has, versus other marketed Berserk wallets.

> I'd have to compare to pictures of the actual paper edition

The german paper edition looks almost the same as the digital one. //Edit: It seems that the fan-made scans from the Dark Horse volumes are a lot darker than they are supposed to be, but I can't judge it until I see the physical japanese volumes.

You can take a look at the official japanese scans here. The japanese ones look very close to the digital german ones. Even brighter in some parts. But I don't know how paper quality is in the japanese volumes.

> It costs 8€ for 2 volumes (so 4€ per volume), so a very cheap alternative to paper.

Well, the german physical volumes cost 10€ for 2 volumes. So only 2€ more.

> I can't directly compare the english fan-scans with the german official translation, but all in all, I'd say the german version is fairly good

I compared several volumes and the german translation is pretty much the same as the official english translation from Dark Horse...just in german.

//Edit2:Here are some photos of the german physical release. Example 1, Example 2. I hope the quality is okay.

Hey man, your paneling work is fantastic. This came up in stuff trending about berserk and looked very interesting. I will definitely back your comic. Try not to get discouraged I sent mine to publishers and got rejected as well but decided to publish through Amazon. The first issue is here if you are interested:

It is part of a larger story as well and I am finishing up the second issue too. I will follow Candara closely. The art style looks really cool. Keep up the good work.

It seems to be out of print from North American licensors. Like others have mentioned, the series is available on Blu-Ray from Madman in Australia. You'd have to find a way around the region locking though (like getting a region free Blu-Ray player for example). It's a lot easier to get around the region locking with DVDs since any computer or laptop with a DVD drive, can play a DVD from any region, be it with the help of special software or not. The series is available on DVD in Europe for a good price.

If you're willing to, you can wait until the 20th anniversary of the series to see if it will be rereleased on Blu-Ray in North America. However, if that doesn't happen, consider the options that I mentioned earlier in this comment.

Hope this helped.

EDIT: Anime Works has the North American license and will release the series on DVD on December 3rd this year.

Lol, sorry for the unsolicited infodump! I mean, I could see that you were writing "realistic" in scare-quotes and said it might be "almost" viable, so I didn't really think you believed munitions armor was like tinfoil, I just kind of got carried away in correcting any misconceptions that any third party reading this might have. I swear, I'm such a hopeless windbag that it's harder for me to write 200 words than 10,000. XP

As for my sources, I was an intern in the department of arms and armor at a major museum for two years, and in addition to looking at all the stuff on display I have read some good material in books and online. I also learned a smidgen of armor-making while I was in college.

If you haven't seen it already, a very good introduction to medieval armor in general is Mike Loades' [Weapons that Made Britain] (https://youtu.be/7qHpoeYyfl0) episode on armor. I recommend Tobias Capwell, who's written [Masterpieces of Arms and Armour in the Wallace Collection] (https://www.amazon.com/Masterpieces-European-Armour-Wallace-Collection/dp/0900785861) and [Armour of the English Knight, 1400-1450] (http://www.wallacecollection.org/shop/books/specialist-books/armour-of-the-english-knight-1400-1450-by-tobias-capwell). You can see him in some TV programs such as [Metalworks: The Knight's Tale] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYd9_vUn7-E), and this recording of his lecture "[Building Medieval Plate Armour: An Operator's Guide] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COAIQPsgZWY)".

Getting into the more detailed stuff, Dr. Alan Williams is the leading expert on the metallurgy and hardening of European arms and Armor; he's written some books including [The Knight and the Blast Furnace] (https://www.amazon.com/Knight-Blast-Furnace-History-Metallurgy/dp/9004124985), and he often appears in other stuff such as the TV documentary [Secrets of the Viking Sword] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTlmrAh1oHI). [Knyght Errant] (https://www.youtube.com/user/neosonic66) is the YouTube channel of Ian LaSpina, who does very detail-oriented videos about the construction and ergonomics of late medieval armor. This French video, "[Le combat en armure au XVe siècle] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hlIUrd7d1Q)", is kind of a demo reel of techniques for fighting in armor. More detailed videos about fighting in armor come from "[Pursing the Knightly Arts] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw7PPvXKlz0)" and Dierk Hagedorn's [Hammaborg class] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S_Q3CGqZmg) on the subject. If you wanna see how reproduction armor is made, check out [Eric Dubé] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Gvuo5Xmcp0) and [Jeffrey Wasson] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgzQiO9liNw) on TouTube. Check out Matt Easton's [Scholagladiatoria] (https://www.youtube.com/user/scholagladiatoria) videos too.

The same book OP shared. I saw you can get used but in good condition for around $45, but that's the cheapest I could find. (I hope that link works, I'm on mobile.)

I found out about this patch a few weeks ago, it works great. You just need the game ISO and then just patch it and play.

to play a patched ISO on your PS2 or PS2 slim you'll need a swap magic disk.

Whole lotta reading recommendations in this thread. May as well throw my two cents in.

The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. If you're into Guts' introspective-man-of-violence-looking-for-his-place-in-the-world-thing I'd think you find Logen Ninefingers to be an interesting character. If you're into audiobooks then I highly recommend checking out the audiobook versions. The guy reading them is practically a voice-actor.

The original trilogy:

Just taking a look for a second, I found this box of war on ebay for $125, which is about what i paid for mine. Seller has 100% positive feedback and includes photos.

I’m guessing you might’ve seen this one if you’ve already checked amazon, but again its sold by a highly rated third party so it’s probably legit. And it seems they use amazon’s return policy so that shouldn’t be an issue either. As far as the price goes, I can’t say if it’s cheap or not but it seems reasonable to me.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Jokes aside, Start here! :)

I always use amazon. I reccomend buying berserk deluxe edition first. Its a premium hardcover book that's way bigger than the usual books at 7x10, it comes with the first three volumes. AND its pretty cheap right now at about 27$ nearly half the usual price.

Amazon has it on DVD:

If you don’t feel like it you could “and I don’t recommend” get it online

>Now to find somewhere to purchase the manga.

What good timing. If you wait a bit you can start with this beauty.

u/DingoPhobos · 4 pointsr/Berserk

Both of the DVD releases are in my closet with the rest of my DVDs. Now find my closet.

It would be easier to just buy it.

It's a collector's edition, but it's Blu-ray. I don't have one yet but I think it has at least the dub, so subtitles should be there too I think. Link here to Amazon page here

Congrats man.
Volume 2 and volume 5 are quite expensive, I managed to pick up 1-14 on a comic selling group on facebook, got lucky as hell.

u/josephcun2520 · 2 pointsr/Berserk

This is exactly what we're getting in the UK. And on the amazon listing it previously said volumes 1-6 (which is all 25 episodes, they were just split up into 6 volumes when they were released), but since then they changed the listing to Berserk: Collector's Edition and the price has gone down to £35.

u/ShadowMagus · 1 pointr/Berserk

Actually that might have answered my question. I was wondering if this was legit since I didn't see any other pictures or logos of companies or anything https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001GF8WSK/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_74_of_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4RQJX0M1SC6QGDSJXDQ3.

u/DopeItUp · 3 pointsr/Berserk

Judging by this link, that pic is from a Berserk artbook: http://www.gameblog.fr/blogs/kenjiseang/rub7/

The two artbooks are for sale here:
https://www.amazon.com/Anime-BERSERK-Illustration-Bijutsu-hen-Japanese/dp/4904835786
and
https://www.amazon.com/Anime-BERSERK-Illustration-Character-Japanese/dp/4904835778/ref=pd_sbs_14_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=VYSWMZBHV3ETPYDS4240

I think it's the second book, but I didn't translate that first link. That should be a start, you'd need to just have a high quality picture/scan I think. I couldn't find any evidence of this so you might have to end up doing it yourself.

u/Yaethe · 11 pointsr/Berserk

Amazon sells a copy of the whole series for ~$65

Other than that I couldn't find any place that was streaming the 97 anime.

The 97 Anime covers the golden age arc and while it has its flaws its overall a pretty good adaptation. Fun fact: the production studio that made it has only ever worked on two IP... Berserk and literally every pokemon anime.

In 2012 they produced a movie triligy that also covered the golden age arc. The animation is CG, though decent despite this, and the story more closely follows the manga... but the pacing suffers as they essentially crammed more content than the 97 anime into 1/3rd the time. Some prefer the latter, some dont.

Then in 2016 they took a dump.
