First off, I'm just gonna assume you are gonna want Hasbro so they are all compatible with the ones at the stores. In that case, you should start off with a SwitchStrike set. The go-to would be the StarStorm Stadium set. It comes with a nice attack type and a nice defense type and two pretty good launchers. It's good if your price limit is low, but if you want to go all out and make sure your kid is the talk of the lunch-table, you could get the Ultimate Tournament Set. It's about $100 but comes with a big arena and 6 beys, two launchers, and 4 extra parts for customization. That set contains both of the beys that come in the StarStorm set along with 4 other great ones. But don't worry if you can't get that one. Another option would be to get him Spriggan Requiem. It's a balance type bey that can change modes and spin direction AND comes with a nice launcher (only in TT format). It's one of the strongest God beys. The mode changes will let him be able to experiment and figure out which playstyle he likes best.

That being said, if you want to get your kid something that will make ALL of the other kids jealous, get him a Cho-Z bey. Since they are Japanese, most kids won't have any (since they probably get theirs from the store) and some may not even know they exist. Cho-Z beys are insanely powerful and will make your kid the champion of the playground. Refer to the other comments on this post for info on good Cho-Z beys. I hope this helps!
Also, if you want a really good launcher that wont break or lose pieces, get the LR String Launcher.
A year younger than you, but yeah, I was very much like you - hazy memories and childhood nostalgia. Then, on a whim, I got into it and it's been a lot of fun. I don't go to tournaments, mainly because I also do worry it'd be creepy lol, but messing around with friends and collecting parts is a lot of fun.
Also, I saw that you linked one of the stadiums below, and that's a great way to start since you're definitely going to need a stadium. Watch out for counterfeit Beyblades (usually made by a company called Rapidity) and if the price is too low, that might be a red flag.
If you want to get started with some Beyblades, I'd recommend buying this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077NM2Y9G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's the cheapest price I've ever seen for 2 good and legitimate Beyblades. I bought it the other day and am completely satisfied.
I saw your post history filled with pokemon posts and am sure you would know what my nephews would like lol. I will go off your list and this is what I'm looking at getting them:

Revive Phoenix w/ launcher -

Cho-Z Achilles w/ launcher -

thanks so much again!!
Second the recommendation for sword launcher:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2U6C4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_KinBzbYMZM3D0
Xcalibur top comes with red sword launcher included:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KZ58QWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_0jnBzb2DA0Q0N
The sword launchers really are superior. There is also a "supergrip" launcher that is an upgrade from the blue launcher - longer rip cord by a few teeth and easier to hold:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J7YO5BE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_cmnBzbZP46D75
Sword launcher is still the best though!
Oh and I should also mention it took me WAY too long to figure out you can hook the launchers together to be able to launch two beys at once. Blue to blue or blue to white supergrip launcher. Does not work for sword launcher that's one at a time.
I'd recommend buying Takara Tomy stuff from Amazon - they're known to be of better quality than the Hasbro ones. Btw, if you buy Cho-Z Achilles, it has already included a LR Launcher, so you can scratch that off the list.
Anyways, here are the links:
- Cho-Z Achilles: https://www.amazon.com/TAKARA-TOMY-Takaratomy-B-129-Achilles-00DM/dp/B07KGGW393
- Digital Sword Launcher (Blue): https://www.amazon.com/Takaratomy-Beyblade-Burst-Digital-Launcher/dp/B074N3BK97
- Digital Sword Launcher (Red): https://www.amazon.com/Takaratomy-Beyblade-Burst-Digital-Launcher/dp/B074N2F6X5
- Launchergrip (Metallic): https://www.amazon.com/Takaratomy-Beyblade-B-109-Launcher-Gunmetallic/dp/B07B9XVVQT
- Grip weight: https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Burst-B-114-Black-Japan/dp/B07CCBTVQK
There's also this device called a BeyLogger (the improved version is the BeyLogger Plus), which I'll give the link to: https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Burst-B-77-Beyloger-Plus/dp/B06XGBRT1Y. This device can be connected to a Japanese app that you can find in the Japanese App Store, but other than that, it just measures launching power & adds weight to the launcher and that's it. Pretty expensive, so not compulsory.
Hope this will be enough for your son :)
Just looking at what amazon.ca has, you're probably better off with this: https://www.amazon.ca/Beyblade-burst-B-19-Bay-Stadium/dp/B0167Z1CFI/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys&ie=UTF8&qid=1481645858&sr=8-1&keywords=takara+beyblade+burst+stadium
It's pricey, but is a much better stadium than the one in the Epic Rivals set.
If money is an issue, the other Hasbro stadium is better than the square one: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=110986956
So I kept searching on Amazon, and in case anyone finds this thread later, I ended up going with this for $10, which seemed like a good way to start: https://smile.amazon.com/Beyblade-2-Pack-Starter-Ifritor-Zeutron/dp/B07843HFWZ
Relatively low investment for 2 beyblades with launchers, and if he really loves them and sticks with it, we can get more later...
What are the Takara Tomy stadiums to look into? My son has quite a few TT Beyblades but his Hasbro stadium is looking pretty beat up after about 3 months of use (almost like it is getting scratched/dull surface).
He has this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Burst-Evolution-Colossus-Beystadium/dp/B07B7Y44Y9/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=Beyblade+stadium&qid=1565900464&s=gateway&sr=8-6
So given that we have four Hasbro Beyblades, which are not compatible with the Takara Tomy beyblades, my only option is going to be to find a TT Genesis Valtryek and buy that for him? (I had no idea there were two different manufacturers, this dad still has a lot to learn.)
Here are some of the TT Genesis Valtryek/God Valkyrie Beyblades I found on Amazon. Can anyone tell me if these are the correct version?

Thanks again!
Thanks.
So, there are not currently any sets that are (as an example) a stadium and 2 beyblades that aren't the burst set?
Even an older one?
What about something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Shogun-Steel-Battle-Tops/dp/B00C0LQTDY/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1481658856&sr=1-3&keywords=beyblade
or
this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CFWWDVK?psc=1
There is? I know there is a couple listings for the Red string launcher and grip but not the LR launcher. Link? The one im talking about is this one, obviously overpriced cuz amazon 3rd party seller https://www.amazon.com/Beyblades-JAPANESE-Accessory-Beyblade-Launcher/dp/B0054XOKLS
I found the TT version on Amazon for a cheaper price :) https://www.amazon.com/Takara-Japanese-Beyblade-Defenser-Tomy/dp/B0006J7W56/ref=sr_1_247?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1496185226&sr=1-247&keywords=takara+tomy+beyblade
I would look around and see if you can find something better than $30. I'd be willing to pay $30 for an oldschool plastic bey if it was popular or uncommon, but I personally wouldn't pay more than about $18ish for this particular bey before shipping.
I am not sure what you're trying to say exactly but if he wants Doomscizor, you should get him Doomscizor? As for this master launcher, I don't know what that is (I'm a hyper casual collector) but I do personally own this launcher, it has master in the name so maybe that's what he means? It's a good launcher by my standards, I usually use this one when battling.
Beyblade Burst Master Kit Playset https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWXHRTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KKPQBb2B32TFH
I would like to spend less. The Takara Tomy "basic" stadium costs 55€...I would like to stay low on price. I don't actually have much money to spend and I feel like 55€ for a piece of plastic is a bit too much :/
Cool. So as someone who's knowledge of beyblade is virtually non existent other than some hazy childhood memories where would you recommend I start. I saw a battle arena with 2 beyblades on amazon for $30 and that looked tempting.
Here's what I'm referring to.
https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Burst-Evolution-Storm-Battle/dp/B071WWLSCZ/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1522785545&sr=1-2&keywords=beyblade
Just buy a this instead of the stadium. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006N8WYM/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 its cheaper and better. ( You will need to modify it a little)
I ordered this from Amazon a couple weeks ago, and wasn't expecting this until the 18th at the earliest. The product page seemed very legitamite. Just trying to get all the info I can, since I don't see the TakaraTomy logo on it.
