I agree with you that money is required to meet your basic needs in this world. A lot of humanity is suffering throughout the world because they can't meet those needs. When you have to worry if you can afford rent, buy food or pay your bills its a little hard to calm down. But once those needs are met, the happiness levels pretty much stay even if you continue to accrue even more wealth. Human beings tend to just get used to whatever lifestyle they are currently living at.

Lets use winning the lottery for example. If you won the lottery today, your happiness will certain get a large boost and that will last for awhile. The problem is that boost is only temporary. If money was literally the answer to our problems then every millionaire and billionaire in the world would logically be the happiest people on the planet.

I'm not saying that pursuit of money is bad or a waste of time. Most of us are basically on similar roads, pursuing money to reach our goals and what not. However, if you were to with all your might pursue your goals and in the end they just fail and blow up right in front of your face you will surely not be too happy about that. Even more terrifying IMO is if you accomplish your goals but your life turns out to be nothing like you wanted it to be.

Are you familiar with the four noble truths? I'm gonna assume you are since you mentioned you practice meditation and yoga(if not see here: http://buddhism.about.com/od/thefournobletruths/a/fournobletruths.htm).

The root cause of suffering is desire. Quoting the website I just linked above:
> The Buddha taught that this thirst grows from ignorance of the self. We go through life grabbing one thing after another to get a sense of security about ourselves. We attach not only to physical things, but also to ideas and opinions about ourselves and the world around us. Then we grow frustrated when the world doesn't behave the way we think it should and our lives don't conform to our expectations.

So if desire leads to suffering, how do you get rid of desire? You don't. We're human beings and we're gonna desire things naturally. The key here is to live your life without attachment to those desires and there you will the freedom I'm trying to describe lol. It's much easier said than done, but with consistent meditation( or yoga in your case) you can reach it.

So I'm not saying that you are wrong with your grind and I sincerely hope you succeed in accomplishing your dreams. I'm just suggesting an alternative way to go about it :)

I'd like to recommend another book to you if you haven't read this one:
Be Here Now(Amazon)

This is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. Its pretty short too and a very enjoyable read. Highly recommended.

The importance of voting is captured well in Will MacAskill's Doing Good Better, where he makes an argument about using expected value to determine the importance of low probability events. When considering low probability events, you must consider both the small chances of making a positive difference and the impact of that small chance of success in order to determine whether an action is worthwhile.

===

Consider betting. Someone gives you a bet to put down $10 for either:

  • a 5% chance to win $500

    or

  • a 50% chance to win $40

    Which do you choose? The consensus approach of professionals in fields with uncertain outcomes is to use expected value, which is essentially thinking about how to weigh average outcomes. A 5% chance means you win 5 out of 100 times on average. This means you lose $10 95 times = $950 and you win $500 5 times = $2500. So, on average, you win $1550 if you take this bet 100 times. This means on average you will win $15.50 dollars taking this bet once. This is the expected value of the first bet.

    ===

    With the other bet, you lose $10 50 times out of 100. So if you take this bet 100 times, you lose $10 50 times = $500, and you gain $40 50 times = $2000. Therefore you gain $1500 on average by taking this bet 100 times. Thus on average you win $15 dollars on average by taking this bet once. This is the expected value of the second bet.

    ===

    Because $15.50<$16, according to expected value, you should take the first bet. In these cases you had to give up $10 every time you wanted to take a bet. In the examples of voting or climate change, however, the costs are significantly less relative to the expected value of a positive or negative outcome, respectively.

    ===

    This is an excerpt from the book:

    ===

    > [page 83]

    > "The authors of the comprehensive accident management plan [for the Fukushima nuclear plant] were correct that the probability of a catastrophe occurring was very small. However, they didn't think correctly about how they should deal with that probability. They assimilated "very small" to zero and promptly forgot all about it. Their mistake was failing to consider that if a catastrophe happens at a nuclear power plant, the costs are huge-- in this case, more than a thousand deaths. Even though the chance of this catastrophe was small, it was clearly worth taking substantial safety precautions.

    > The Fukushima safety engineers were trying to prevent harm with their safety assessment, and they failed by ignoring an important but low-probability event. In just the same way, when trying to do good, we need to be sensitive both to the likelihood of success and to the value of that success. This means that low-probability high-payoff activities can take priority over sure bets of more modest impact. It also shows that people are often confused when they say that "one person can't make a difference". Voting provides a vivid illustration.

    ===

    He then goes on to say that casting an individual vote, calculated by Nate Silver an other notable statisticians to have on average a 1 in 60 million chance of swaying the election (these odds vary widely state to state), has an expected value of about $5,200 to the people of the United States based on some fairly conservative estimates.

    ===

    He applies the same argument to climate change. Even if you believe that there is only a 1% chance that climate change is at least partially caused by humanity, it is still worth acting on when you think in terms of expected value-- that is, weighing that small chance with the incredible damage of the event.

I'm sure you can find a pdf copy online.

Great read. I honestly don't think I would be where I am today without that book. Opened my damn eyes. Not just with women but my whole life. It's about becoming a better (but true) version of yourself. Which ultimately makes you more interesting, more confident (which can help with getting jobs, women, etc.) and happier.

Just one more quick thing. It's so funny when you start doing this stuff well. You'll find yourself in some of the exact situations in the book. This one time i was at a bar when I was like 21 or 22. Group of 5 girls. I was chatting them up damn good! (Was a few months into doing this at this point). Was talking them up so good a wicked alpha male had to come in and see who was talking to all the ladies. Needless to say he out alpha maled me lol but man it was a cool experience because you realize nearly every situation is the same, it's just how you handle it. Handle it well and reap the rewards (with anything not just women).

Enjoy.

No. I know you're joking, but no, that moment passed around age 21. It's easy to get started though. I started with stirfry personally since it's one technique and you can create a lot of variety from there.

Get yourself one of these: https://www.amazon.com/T-fal-Specialty-Nonstick-Dishwasher-PFOA-Free/dp/B000MYI2ZO/ref=sr_1_9

And one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Proctor-Silex-37534NR-uncooked-resulting/dp/B01GVGXB5C/ref=sxin_3_ac_d_pm

Use this stir fry cooking guide to start: https://1m8t7f33dnra3sfk6v2rjurs-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/StirFry_Vertical_Draft5-01-670x8000.jpg

Fill in the details like "how to tenderize meat" using google searches or by watching youtube. There's just an absurd amount of beginners-cooking info out there for any question you have and all of it works equally well so just pick something and go with it.

Figure you're going to spend about $1 on the meat, $1.50 on the veggies for fresh or $0.50 for frozen, $0.50 on seasonings and $0.50 on rice per 1000 to 1200 calorie meal. If you don't want to use a rice cooker then you can also just serve the stirfry over some drained ramen noodles.

It's certainly more expensive than ramen, but on a dollar-per-calorie basis it's actually quite cheaper than sandwiches unless your sandwich is made from the absolute cheapest ingredients available. The biggest benefit is this helps you eat fresh veggies a lot more and that's a massive quality of life improvement because you absolutely will feel much better on the day-to-day.

All you have to do is practice. You'll mess up a lot early on but you'll get better over time. Good luck.

Which one? There are two reese bars there is https://www.amazon.com/REESES-Holiday-Chocolate-Stocking-Stuffers/dp/B004DEEWBW

Which is okay but not the best reese product.

Then there is the actual Reese Wafer which is IMO the best Reese Product available atm.

The reese Easter Eggs/Christmas Trees are also really good if you can get them around the holidays

your pdf doesn't contradict my claim.

There are two effectiveness rates I discussed, one for perfect use and another for the actual real world rate. Perfect use means exactly that, the user made no mistakes in the use of that contraception. For condoms this means having the right size, lubricating sufficiently, etc to minimize risks of tears. For the birth control pill, this means taking it everyday and at the same time. The effectiveness of the BC pill is greatly diminished if you don't take it at the same time everyday.

This is why I made the distinction between perfect use and real world effectiveness, because dumb people like you who don't pay attention to the details are inevitably going to fuck it up.

Condoms, when used 100% perfectly, have a maximum effectiveness of 98%. In your PDF it gives the real world rate of 82% (in my original claim I said 85% for condoms, close enough).

The pullout method, when used 100% perfectly, has a 100% maximum effectiveness. I also said that the real world effectiveness of pullout is likely less than condoms. In your PDF it says 78% effectiveness.

Peeps...you don't have to suffer through anxiety. There is a reason why you are anxious so you need to figure it out. It may be a repressed memory, someone you are around, your lifestyle, etc but you have to be truthful and find out.

Or it may be an imbalance in your body. You may be deficient in a mineral. Magnesium helps a lot with anxiety and if you are under high stress the body becomes depleted in magnesium a lot quicker. I used stay calm magnesium supplement to get rid of my anxiety. Its an up hill battle but you can get your anxiety under control. Be safe out there.

Here is the link to it on amazon. Its also sold at wholefoods, cvs etc... take care of yourself...you are the biggest asset that you have.

Conservative ideology is fundamentally about keeping existing hierarchies in place. They believe God is on top, and the believe men belong above women, parents above children, whites above non-whites. They believe that this is righteous and endowed by god, and that if you disrupt it, if you putting "the wrong people" in the "wrong places," that would allow the evil in the world to win.

Even more so, hidden in this belief, is the idea that hierarchies are inevitable. They think that disrupting the hierarchy does not destroy it but merely re-arranges it. Thus, by moving black people from "their place," that will inevitably result in white people being slaves. This is why they feel threatened. They never even entertained the possibility that people can be equal.

Thankfully, these are just ideas. They can be hard to unlearn, but it's why Fox News is so dangerous, reinforcing these beliefs at a substantial profit. If you want to know more, check out Lakoff's Don't Think of an Elephant: https://www.amazon.com/ALL-NEW-Dont-Think-Elephant/dp/160358594X/ref=dp_ob_title_bk which I found quite illuminating in this regard.

Black History Fun-ish Fact

The majority of cowboys we're actually black and mexican, not white like we see in many movies.

The image of cowboys have been changed to someone who is an outlaw and goes from town to town playing by his own rules.

In actuality, cowboys we're mostly farmhands who worked long hours, in the hot sun, with little to no pay. These were the only kind of jobs that Black people and Mexican people were able to get back then.

Happy Black History Month!
