The manual for the Ruby says it comes with rechargeable NiMH batteries and has a built-in charger for them. I gather you were using alkaline because you may need to swap batteries during a shift, so why not just buy an external charger and a dozen high quality NiMH batteries and never have to worry about paying for batteries again?

The best simple charger for NiMH is the Panasonic BQ-CC17. It's available in a kit with either AA or AAA, but the AAA price is a bit of a rip-off; you may as well get the AA version and order some AAA separately.

For batteries, get as many AmazonBasics AAA as you would like. They come in high capacity and regular versions, but the cost difference is a lot higher than the capacity difference, so just decide for yourself what you prefer.

Important note: you should not mix NiMH and alkaline batteries in a device.

He is writing a multi part Zombpoc series that is set in a small lake town in Alabama. It is funny and outrageous similar to Zombieland. He has take a lot of inspiration from writers such as Mark Tufo and Shawn Chesser.

I'm also visually impaired and need to be really close to my monitor, and the arm mount works really well. I have one line this and mount it to the side of my desk. So I can pull it closer but have room under it for my keyboard.

Does he still need the larger font size if the monitor is close? In my case, I can see fairly small sizes if I look close enough, so I don't really need large fonts since I have the arm. But all text editors have the option to change the size, so it would really just be a matter of adjusting the size to a comfortable level.

EDIT: another thing to note about the arm, you should plan where you'll mount it before buying one. For me, my desk is solid on the side so there wasn't a good spot to clamp it on (so I had to carve out a hole in my desk).

This is a great resource: https://www.amazon.com/Singular-View-Art-Seeing-One/dp/0961463929

Has a bunch of illustrations and ways to manage living with monocular vision.

Bone conduction headphones are great for exactly what you're describing!

A O+M instructor that I work with suggested these in a meeting lately (link)

hi, sorry i should have said that we're in the UK. i think she does 5 books a week so that would take her over the borrowing limit. she doesnt watch much tv at all. basically she reads and listens to jazz. would the daisy reader thing be the best for that? https://www.amazon.com/Talking-Daisy-Book-Media-Player/dp/B01B6PQF2Y/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_121_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3MEQJ8MY6KW9NZP0HR80#customerReviews

I vaguely remember some blogging about this somewhere...a long time ago? Didn't know it would be turning into a book; interesting!

Unfortunately, the reviewer didn't include a link to where to actually buy the book; how odd! To save other people time, here's the Kindle version. I couldn't find it anywhere else, but Amazon's DRM isn't too terrible.

Amazon has also just put out a voice-activated microwave. Highly recommended!

I've heard good things about the Carson CF-718. Close focus distance of 10 inches and only $14.

I use glasses that are anti glare, prevents eye fatigue, migraine, eye exhaustion, and eye strain. Works like a charm. In addition they go on top of my prescribed glasses. Great for gaming, but I use it for everything screen related.

There's a really great fantasy series by Sarah Monette and the 4th book (Corambis) has a blind narrator.

There are heavy duty toenail shears that are much stronger than regular nail clippers, and are designed for thick and ingrown nails.

Here is an example:

Here's an option that's made to be fun, but I don't know if the grip will work. Also, this is plastic and you might need to provide oversight, because plasticware can break: https://www.amazon.com/12pcs-Cutlery-Knives-Forks-Spoons/dp/B00JRG2556

Would something like this Picture Phone work for your grandmother?

There are a lot of options for voice activated LAN phones, but as you said they're all around the $200 price range.

I have a stylist and can provide an amazon link ( here ), but I don’t think I use it correctly. I poke downward, meaning I need to write Braille backwards, or poke upward and it’s harder to hold. I’ve been meaning to figure it out.
