There was a programme on recently called Posh & Posher about this, but I didn't think much of it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00y37gk

To be honest, the best analysis of that kind of thing that I've come across is this book, which I highly recommend even for British people, it's fascinating. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Watching-English-Hidden-Rules-Behaviour/dp/0340818867/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302431227&sr=8-1

I can't be arsed with formatting but here's a few links of programs I've enjoyed.

Bloody Britain with Rory McGrath [2004] [DVD]

The David Starkey Collection [DVD]

Simon Schama: A History of Britain - The Complete BBC Series [DVD]

The best three I can think of off the top of my head. Well worth watching. The Rory McGrath one is a bit different really. Computer cartoon people have wars and shit, quite fun to watch if you get high.

It's not really a series you "pick up", more something that's on in the background and you just kind of know what's going on by osmosis.

The writers know that new people are always tuning in, so there's exposition on top of exposition. After a fortnight you'll know who's related to who just because they keep mentioning how X is Y's sister or whatever.

Source: Never intentionally watching it, but it was on in the background when I was a kid. I can remember pretty much all of the 90s and 2000s bits of this box set. Who here doesn't know about Richard Hillman driving Gail and the kids into the river with You and Me by The Wannadies playing on the car radio, the whole "Deirdre Barlow is innocent" thing, or the Hayley/Harold transgender storyline.

I bought the 4 season boxset (along with In The Loop) from Amazon, it's shaped like a red briefcase and is a delight.

I'd probably go for this or this or something like them. Avoid smart TVs - go for set-top-boxes, as the smart bits will go out of date or stop being supported long before the TV stops being useful, and replacing an STB is much cheaper than replacing the whole TV.

Don't forget the 2 live shows. Live at Drury Lane and the pantomine The League of Gentlemen Are Behind You are both well worth a watch, and cheap as you like too

It's one of my favourite animated shows and my go-to, to correct people who say that animation is for kids. Amazon has series 1 on DVD and fo £5.60 I highly recommend it!

The entire three series plus Christmas Special is available in this set from Amazon in Region 1: http://www.amazon.com/The-League-Gentlemen-Collection/dp/B0007Y0982/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396897907&sr=8-1&keywords=league+of+gentlemen It's only the live shows and movie that aren't available in the US.

I really liked the DVD Collection that included the "Homage-O-meter" subtitles that showed what each reference was.

You can order the dvd from amazon uk, make sure you have a multi region DVD player (Many DVD players can be made multi region with a code.)

You can get the whole remastered set on DVD/Blu-Ray for pisscheap nowadays, probably the only way to watch it legally without adverts interrupting and cutting out part of the programme. Get 'em!

I received this for my birthday this year. Awesomest present of the year.
