The dog food we fed Luka was Earthborn Holistic Grain Free Coastal Catch. He loved that stuff but it is pricey. Now with Jack, we were looking for something just as good but not as pricey. Believe it or not, after doing a good amount of research, we settled on Rachel Ray Zero Grain, and he loves it. We're on our 3rd bag and he's been doing great, though if we have to we'll go back to the Earthborn and spend that extra money.

We also add 1 raw egg once a week and give him 1 1/2 sardines (packed in WATER) over the course of a couple days mixed in his food. His coat is shiny and we're seeing no signs that he has any internal issues. He's active, happy...and his ears are doing good.

Oh, and he DOESN'T FART. Ever. Seriously.

For his folds, we use Pampers Sensitive wipes. They are perfume free and also restore the skins natural PH. But seriously, I assume most baby wipes would work well since they're made for babies skin. The main thing is to wipe the folds dry after you clean them. We didn't know that when we got Luka. We were just told to make sure we keep the folds clean, which we did daily. We only found out by googling that we had to follow up with drying. The reason I did the research in the first place is because his folds seemed to be red and his face kind of smelled. We found that the smell was coming from his folds...poor guy. Luckily, it didn't last long so his discomfort was not that extensive.

My bully is also 7! We use Earthbath shampoo. I'd recommend these Keto-C Antiseptic wipes if he has any skin fold irritation. You might want to try a fish oil to add to his food; that should help his hair and they just love it. My pup has some arthritis and hip dysplasia, so we give him a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement. He has a bit of a grain sensitivity so he eats Rachel Ray Just Six. I keep Benadryl on hand (vet approved) because it helps when he gets seasonal allergies. Get some dog toothpaste and a brush; it really does help. My pup loves any kind of dental bones, also. Keep an eye out for a head tilt or unusual ear wax/discharge as bullies can be prone to ear infections. Make sure he wears a harness (we've used a cheap roman harness for years but recently got this harness) and take good care of his neck- my boy has recently been dealing with a prolapsed intervertebral disk, which is caused by normal play like tug of war and fetch, jumping off the couch, going up and down stairs, and generally having a huge head. So now we play very carefully, carry him on stairs, and have him on an anti-inflammatory. He uses a raised feeding dish to prevent strain. We also put a little tennis ball in his food to make him eat slowly (he has a tendency to eat too fast and throw up). I use Argan oil and petroleum jelly on his nose when it gets dry.
I'm sure he'll let you know his taste in treats and toys soon, but my buddy likes antler chews, Busy Bones, and all stuffed animals. Rawhides make him throw up. Congratulations and good luck!

The ones I've seen are soft and crush down a bit. I talked to someone in the lounge once - we were on different red eyes - and he said it compressed more than you would think. He also had meds for the dog, but it was honestly pretty chill.

But that being said - seriously, if you don't have to fly with your dog, don't. If it's a relocation, you can plan ahead. If it's a vacation, just put your dog in a nice kennel or get a nice dog/house sitter. My girl would see me put her food container on the counter and her bedding in a duffel, and she would wait happily by the door so we could go see her friends at the kennel. (The owner of the kennel once told me if something happened and we couldn't keep her that she would happily keep her - my girl was a huge love.)

They spoiled her rotten and I never worried about her at all.

Road trips were a bit of a trial, I'm not going to say otherwise. While she liked short local trips, she didn't really like being pent up in the car much. We got her a really comfy fleece lined harness, and one of those attachments that slot into a seat belt so she had a little room to get comfy on the backseat, but otherwise, she was just pissed she was not on her couch or rolling around in her yard.

But she did like getting out of the car at the end of the day, and she totally played it up for the hotel staff who would shower her with ear scratches and treats. And she always loved sniffing around the hotel and hotel room.

Some of my friends have Jack Russells - they moved from Seattle to DC and back to Seattle. And with both moves, they just made an adventure out of the road trip. They said it took a little longer, but they were sure they were doing the right thing by the dogs.

Order this shampoo:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000O1HEJ0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549770962&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=duoxo+chlorhexidine+shampoo+for+dogs&psc=1&smid=A2701FG002WN6Z

Bathe her once a week - Letting the shampoo sit for at least ten minutes on her skin.

There’s absolutely all sorts of things you can do for her - the old owner is an idiot.

It’s very likely she could have a food allergy as they are very common. I would go visit your vet and get their recommendations on how to scale her diet back to try and identify what the culprit is. There are allergy tests that can be done as well. Chicken is a common allergen among many bulldogs I know. We feed Taste of the Wild but you can find many different foods that are grain free and have single proteins.

Benedryl will help as well - you can give her 1mg/pound of body weight (one pill is 25mg) every 4-6 hours to help relieve itching.

That shampoo brand - Duoxo - makes many different products that are basically gold if you own a bulldog. They have wipes as well - but I just buy unscented baby wipes at Costco to help keep their faces and rolls clean.

My bully Odin has the same problem, with varying degrees of intensity. https://i.imgur.com/IeOs8pt.jpg

I've tried snout soother, it's good for a temporary fix, but I'd say it's equivalent to really expensive Bag balm or udder cream. We have a weekly routine where I'll clean the crust off with a warm wash cloth which he seems to love, and follow up with some snout soother, which he's not the biggest fan of. It seems healthier, but never really goes away fully.

I've talked to his vet about it as well, she said there's not much I can do, because he usually immediately licks anything off, when I put it on. She told me some bully's will just have the dry nose, and keep up our weekly routine.

Edit: just adding, that even though I said I feel like Snout Soother is an expensive lotion, I still continue to buy it. It seems to help, and that's ok with me. It usually lasts a long time.

Earthbath makes some awesome ear wipes that we have used for a while now. Stevie doesn't like getting her ears cleaned but it's way easier using a wipe on your finger than a swab or q-tips. You can pick them up from most good pet stores like Mud Bay or online. I highly recommend. Oh and they also have eye wipes. We actually use them on her whole face to keep her wrinkles clean.

We fed a raw diet for years, it cleared up my bulldogs skin and allergies within days. This is a good book and a great place to start: Raw Dog Food: Make It Easy for You and Your Dog

Edited: just wanted to add that the diet also has other health benefits as well. It keeps thier teeth clean and anal glands clear - plus the shiny coat

Here is a good list to get you started.

  • Take lots of pictures. They grow up fast.

  • Invest in a carpet cleaner. I picked up this one. http://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-ProHeat-Compact-Multi-Purpose-14259/dp/B002KCMH6Q/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1382137558&sr=8-9&keywords=bissell

  • Be patient, but persistent with potty training. With a good routine and proper rewards the puppys will learn fast. On this note, bulldogs don't bark too much. You may want to train them to ring a bell to be let out. It worked for my guy.

  • Training your pup for 15 minutes is good. Do it every day. Your pup will likely get a lot of mental stimulation out of it, and you will be rewarded in the future.

  • Start a wrinkle cleaning routine early. The wrinkles coming down from the eyes and above the nose tend to get dirty and need to be cleaned often. You don't notice this much when they are young, but later on the dogs start to tear into those wrinkles. You don't want to wait that long to train them to like the cleaning routine.

We used this shampoo on him even though he was old because it was so gentle and didn't make problems for his sensitive skin.

Also, this snout soother or something like it will help keep your dog's nose from getting crusty and dry. Apple cider vinegar is super helpful with ear cleaning because you can put some on a cotton pad and wipe out the inside of your dog's ears to help keep problems with ear infections at a minimum too.

Bulldog maintenance is very time consuming, but worth it. I loved my drooling beast and it was just part of our routine.

Thanks! And we've gone through several. Harnesses and this one is hands down the best. VERY fast and easy to put on and take off, very solid yet soft and padded, and everything is adjustable. Got it on Amazon.

The first piece of advice I always give people is: Go to the Vet. Seriously. Do it. Just because someone else on the internet says "Oh that looks like XYZ..." doesn't mean it is. After 4 years volunteering/fostering for a Bulldog Rescue and with two of my fosters currently dealing with paw/skin issues, I can tell you there's many things it could be. The two fosters paw issues look similar, but are two different things so they must be treated differently. One has Inter-Digital Cysts and MRSA, and the other has Demodex. Both treated differently. Yours could be an allergy, hotspot, anything really. So go to the Vet and depending on where you live, look for a Vet that specializes in Bulldogs. If you're in the Southern California area, I can recommend two of the best.

Secondly, buy your self this stuff I'm going to link. You can use it for all sorts of things: Paw soaks, wrinkle cleaning, treating/cleaning of wounds, etc. This gallon bottle will last you at least a year, where as the 16oz bottle you'd get from a Vet wouldn't and could cost up to twice the price of the gallon. (My apologies for the link length/formatting, I'm in mobile.)

Our vet recommended and sold us a bottle of chlorohexidine solution. The solution is very, very dilute. I found a gallon of 2% solution on amazon. This is enough to make 50 gallons of what you need. We used this when we first got our porkchop. It works great.

Pick up an English Bulldog Book. I keep turning to it year after year. It has helped me immensely from yeast infections to helping soothe raw wrinkles. I have this one.

Mainly just clean them, watch their diet, they are sensitive to extremely hot & cold weather, and give them enough exercise and play, but don't walk them for miles.

EDIT: I do feed mine Buffalo Blue label dog food, have loved ones watch her when we are away (instead of boarding), and have vet checks regularly. Get some chew toys (but no raw bones)!

Julius K9 - I love this harness for her: it's a simple on/off and she can't pull out of it
